What is Botania?
1 part
This pack includes Botania 1.20.1-455-FORGE. You will meet it through the pack's own quest book, which gives it a full chapter that starts with flowers and ends with the Guardian of Gaia and the relics it drops.[1][2]
The chapter is called "Botania". It sits in the Production group, as chapter 27 of 44 in the book, and has 79 quests. It opens with "Welcome to Botania !" quest, a simple checkmark quest that starts the Botania line.[2]
How the quest chapter flows
- After the welcome quest comes a quest in "Botania". Every one of the 16 Mystical flower quests, from Mystical Red Flower to Mystical White Flower, comes after it, and they all lead to "Creating flowers" quest.[2]
- Next are "The most important Functional flower" quest (Pure Daisy) and "The first Generating flower" quest (Endoflame). The Pure Daisy quest leads on to 8 Livingwood Log and 8 Livingrock.[2]
- "Mana storage" quest (Mana Pool) comes after Livingrock, the first generating flower and the Mana Spreader. "Wand of the Forest" quest comes after Livingwood, and "Mana Spreader" quest comes after the wand.[2]
- "Mana-infused items" quest branches into the Runic Altar, the Alchemy Catalyst, Manasteel tools and armor, Spark and the Mana Splitter. The Rune quests follow the Runic Altar.[2]
- "Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate" quest (Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate) comes after Sparks and the five runes. It leads to "Terrasteel Ingot" quest, and from there to Mana Mirror, Terrasteel tools and "Portal to Alfheim" quest.[2]
- Alfheim resources opens up Elementium tools and armor, the Elven Mana Spreader, and an Alfsteel Ingot from an addon mod.[2]
- "Fighting the Guardian of Gaia" quest asks for 4 Gaia Pylon and a beacon. After the Gaia quests, a quest in "Botania" (Dice of Fate) leads to the relic quests: Ring of Thor, Ring of Loki, Ring of Odin and more.[2]
One Botania item lives outside this chapter. The Ender Air Bottle quest is in the "End" chapter, in the Storyline group (chapter 6 of 44), next to the Ender Dragon quests.[3]
How do you get started with Botania?
6 parts
Botania has its own chapter in this pack's quest book: "Botania", in the Production group, chapter 27 of 44, with 79 quests. It opens with "Welcome to Botania !" quest, and the order below follows the chain of quests from there.[2]
Get your Lexica Botania
Start with the Lexica Botania. Opening it and flicking through the entries is a Botania advancement of its own. Here is the recipe.[4][5]
In Garden of Glass worlds you can spawn with one already. That is controlled by gardenOfGlass.spawnWithLexicon, which this pack leaves set to true.[6]
Floral Fertilizer and your first flowers
The first real quest after the welcome is a quest in "Botania", which asks for Floral Fertilizer. Every Mystical Flower quest comes after it. Once you have the flowers, "Creating flowers" quest follows.[2]

Pure Daisy and Endoflame
After "Creating flowers" quest the chapter splits in two. "The most important Functional flower" quest wants the Pure Daisy. "The first Generating flower" quest wants the Endoflame, your first generating flower. Both are made in a Petal Apothecary.[2][4]

Livingwood, Livingrock and the Wand
The Pure Daisy unlocks two quests: "Livingwood" quest asks for 8 Livingwood Log and "Livingrock" quest asks for 8 Livingrock. Livingwood leads on to "Wand of the Forest" quest, which is the Wand of the Forest.[2]

What comes next
After the Mana Pool, the quest book opens "Mana-infused items" quest and ""Free" mana" quest. The first of those leads to "Mana transfer between pools" quest, "Runic Altar" quest, "Alchemy Catalyst" quest, "Manasteel Tools" quest, "Sparks" quest and "Mana Splitter" quest.[2]
How does Botania work?
5 parts
The sources for this pack give short descriptions of Botania's systems, plus the pack's own config and scripts. This section covers how the systems fit together and what this pack sets.[5][6]
Moving and storing mana
Mana is stored in a Mana Pool. Sparks help transfer mana around, and a Minecart with Mana Pool is for long range mana transport. The mod's own advancement texts describe all three that way.[5]
Items can be charged while sitting on top of a pool. The pack leaves chargeAnimation on, so you see the charging animation. Mana infusion recipes, such as turning an Agricarnation into an Agricarnation Petite, are also in the pack's recipe list.[4][6]
Mana Infusion (botania)
Recipe id: botania:mana_infusion/agricarnation_chibi
This is the pack's mana infusion recipe for Agricarnation Petite.
Pasture Seeds also come from a mana infusion recipe in this pack.
Spreader and flower settings in this pack
- manaSpreaders.traceTime is 400. It sets how many ticks ahead a spreader predicts where its bursts go. Lowering it helps performance, but spreaders then stop firing at targets that are too far away.[6]
- manaSpreaders.silent is false, so spreaders keep their shooting sound.[6]
- flowerBindingForceCheck is true, so flowers are strict when checking their connection to pools and spreaders. The config only suggests turning it off on an extremely large world with TPS lag from a huge number of spreaders and pools.[6]
- harvestLevels.boreLens is 3 (diamond level) and harvestLevels.weightLens is 2 (iron level).[6]
- rannuncarpus.modBlacklist contains storagedrawers, so Rannuncarpus flowers ignore Storage Drawers. The config comment says this avoids crashes when drawer blocks are placed without a player. rannuncarpus.itemBlacklist is empty.[6]
Crafting blocks
Several of Botania's crafting systems are their own blocks. The Petal Apothecary makes flowers, and the advancement texts confirm it covers both generating and functional flowers. The Runic Altar creates Runes. A Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate conjures Terrasteel Ingots, and the Botanical Brewery makes Brews. The Mana Enchanter handles enchanting, and the pack keeps it available through manaEnchanter.[5][6]

The pack adds its own apothecary recipes for Hydroangeas and Pure Daisy. It also adds one for Wither Aconite from Mythic Botany, which uses many different Botania flowers.[7]
The pack also uses the Runic Altar for Mystical Agriculture seed recipes. Each of those recipes costs 5,000 mana.[8]
Alfheim and elven trades
The Elven Gateway Core is the block behind the advancement for opening a portal to Alfheim. Elven trade is also a Botania recipe type, and the Dragonstone is made by one.[4][5]
Elven Trade (botania)
- any mana diamond gem
Recipe id: botania:elven_trade/dragonstone
This is the elven trade recipe for the Dragonstone in this pack.
The pack adds its own elven trade, in a script named add_manapool_craft.js. It turns three Infinity 2 items into one Infinity 3 item.[9]
Other systems you'll meet
The Corporea Network has blocks of its own, and one advancement is for successfully requesting 65,536 of a single item in a Corporea Index. The pack leaves relics enabled, so the Relic System with its entries, drops and achievements stays on. Hand of Ender pickpocketing of other players' ender chests also stays on through enderPickpocket.[5][6]
If you play a Garden of Glass world, gardenOfGlass.spawnWithLexicon is true, so you start with a Lexica Botania. gardenOfGlass.islandScaleMultiplier is 8 here. That puts multiplayer islands on points 2,048 blocks apart.[6]
How do you progress through Botania?
6 parts
The pack's quest book gives Botania its own chapter in the Production group, and it opens with the "Welcome to Botania !" quest. Your very first Botania item shows up even earlier, in the early Storyline chapter, where the Pebbles quest asks for Pebble. Many quests in that chapter are not shown in the sources here, so check the quest book for the rest.[2][10]
Tier 1: flowers, Pure Daisy and livingwood
After the welcome quest comes the Floral Fertilizer quest (Floral Fertilizer), which unlocks a quest for each mystical flower colour. Finishing them opens the "Creating flowers" quest, and that opens two more: one for the Pure Daisy and one for the Endoflame.[2][4]
The pack makes the Pure Daisy through the petal apothecary with its own recipe, so don't assume the mod default.[4][7]

Tier 2: manasteel, runes and sparks
Finishing the Mana Pool quest opens the "Mana-infused items" quest, which branches into a lot of quests: mana transfer with the Mana Tablet, the Runic Altar, the Alchemy Catalyst, manasteel tools, manasteel armor, Spark and the Mana Splitter. The Band of Mana quest follows the Mana Tablet quest.[2][4]
The pack changed the Alchemy Catalyst recipe, so use this one.[4]

Tier 3: Terrasteel
The Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate quest comes after the Sparks quest and all five rune quests, and it asks for the Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate. The Terrasteel Ingot quest follows it. The pack also changed the Mana Diamond recipe, so check it before you start.[2][4]
Mana Infusion (botania)

Terrasteel opens the quests for the Mana Mirror, the Elven Gateway Core and the Terrasteel tools. The Terrasteel Armor quest (Terrasteel Boots and the rest of the set) needs both the Manasteel Armor quest and the Terrasteel Ingot quest. The Greater Band of Mana quest follows the Band of Mana quest, and the Greater Band of Aura quest follows the Band of Aura quest, which itself comes after the Rune of Mana quest.[2][4]
Tier 4: Alfheim and elementium
The Portal to Alfheim quest asks for the Elven Gateway Core, Natura Pylon and Glimmering Livingwood Log, plus a filtered choice of other items.[2][4]

After that you get "Alfheim resources" quest and "Better Lexica Botania" quest. The resources quest opens Elementium tools and armor, a quest in "Botania", "Spark Augments" quest and a quest in "Botania". You can make Elementium Ingot with an elven trade, and the pack also adds an alloy smelting route from Elementium Ore.[2][4]

Tier 5: Gaia and relics
The Guardian of Gaia fight quest comes after the Alfsteel Ingot quest and asks for Gaia Pylon and a beacon. Then the Gaia Spirits quest (Gaia Spirit) and a follow-up fight quest asking for the Gaia Spirit Ingot come next. The Gaia Mana Spreader quest needs the Elven Mana Spreader quest and the Gaia Spirits quest.[2][4]
After the follow-up fight quest the book offers the Flügel Tiara, Black Hole Talisman, Life Aggregator and Dice of Fate.[2][4]

Machines and endgame
The next chapter, Botanical Machinery + Extra (also in the Production group), starts from the Elementium Ingot quest (Elementium Ingot). Machines like the Mechanical Mana Pool then branch off it, and the mana pool line runs Base, Upgraded, Advanced and Ultimate. The spark line runs Base, Malachite, Saffron, Shadow, Crimson, Aureate, then Mazarine.[4][12]
In the EndGame chapter, a quest in "EndGame" needs Infinity 2 and the Elven Gateway Core quest. The pack makes Infinity 3 through an elven trade of three Infinity 2. The same chapter also holds a quest in "EndGame" and a Mana Tablet quest. The pack changed the Mana Tablet recipe there.[4][9][13]

How does Botania work with other mods?
5 parts
Botania plugs into a lot of the pack's other mods, mostly through its own crafting stations: the Runic Altar, the Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate and the Petal Apothecary. Here are the main links from the in-pack recipes and the quest book.[2][4]
Mystical Agriculture and Mystical Agradditions
The link runs both ways. Mystical Flower Essence turns into 6 Mystical Black Flower, and that is one of 19 recipes of its type that take Mystical Agriculture items and give Botania results. Going the other way, Mystical Flower Agglomeratio is crafted from Botania's mystical flowers.[4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:mystical_flower_agglomeratio
The pack also adds Runic Altar recipes that make Mystical Agriculture seeds, such as Skeleton Seeds, Silver Seeds and Manasteel Seeds. Each of these needs a Terrasteel Ingot, plus Tertium Essence and Thermal Extra ingots. Most of them also need the Tier 3 Crafting Seed.[4]

Mythic Botany
- Rune of Alfheim, Rune of Helheim, Rune of Asgard and Rune of Vanaheim are made at the Runic Altar from Botania runes and other Botania items.[4]
- Alfsteel Ingot comes from a Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate recipe that the pack changed. Alf Truncator is a smithing upgrade of the Terra Truncator, and it is one of 9 smithing recipes that upgrade Botania gear.[4]
- Dragonstone comes from Dragonstone Ore by smelting or blasting. The pack also adds an Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for it.[4]
- Gjallarhorn is made from the Horn of the Wild by mana infusion. Ring of Andwari is made in a rune ritual that uses Botania's Manaweave Cloth and runes.[4]
- Exoblaze, Hellebore and Petrunia are made in the Petal Apothecary. The pack added its own recipe for Wither Aconite, which asks for a long list of Botania flowers, a Wither Token and an Exoblaze.[4][7]

Avaritia, AE2 and the rest
The pack changed Avaritia's Mana Tablet recipe. It is a shaped table recipe that takes the Infinity Ingot together with a big collection of Botania relics, runes and devices. The pack also changed the MEGA Mana Cell Housing, which is now made on the Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate from the ME Mana Cell Housing plus Botania's Mana Diamond and Mana Pearl.[4]

- The pack's Crazy AE2 Addons research recipe for the Infinity 9 block drive asks for 64 Block of Terrasteel among its inputs.[4]
- The pack's rune ritual for the Solar Ultimate Panel uses Gaia Spirit Ingot alongside Mythic Botany runes and Void Miners parts.[4]
- The pack's recipe for the Loot Fabrication Plant Controller needs a Manasteel Ingot.[4]
- The pack's Ex Deorum script gives Blaze Mesh a crucible heat value of 10.[14]
- The pack's Botania script smelts Smokey Quartz into Actually Additions black quartz. It also adds a 3x3 recipe for Blacker Lotus that mixes Actually Additions, Hostile Neural Networks and Botanical Extra Machinery items.[11]
In the quest book
Botania has its own chapter in the Production group, chapter 27 of 44, with 79 quests. The quest "Fighting the Guardian of Gaia" quest comes after an Alfsteel Ingot quest, so some Mythic Botany material comes before the Gaia fight. The text of 20 of the chapter's quests is only in the quest book.[2]
Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Botania?
2 parts
Botania quests are spread over several chapters. The main one is "Botania", in the Production group of the quest book. It opens with a checkmark quest, "Welcome to Botania !" quest, and the rest of the chapter branches out from there.[2]
The Botania chapter, in order
- a quest in "Botania" comes right after the welcome quest and asks for Floral Fertilizer.[2]
- Every Mystical Flower colour has its own quest after the fertilizer, for example a quest in "Botania" for Mystical Cyan Flower. "Creating flowers" quest comes after those colour quests.[2]
- Next come "The most important Functional flower" quest for the Pure Daisy and "The first Generating flower" quest for Endoflame.[2]
- After the daisy quest the book asks you to hand in Livingwood Log ("Livingwood" quest) and Livingrock ("Livingrock" quest). The livingwood quest leads to the Wand of the Forest ("Wand of the Forest" quest) and then the Mana Spreader ("Mana Spreader" quest).[2]
- "Mana storage" quest asks for a Mana Pool. The livingrock, Endoflame and Mana Spreader quests come before it.[2]
- "Mana-infused items" quest follows the pool. After it the chapter fans out: the Mana Tablet ("Mana transfer between pools" quest), the Runic Altar ("Runic Altar" quest), the Alchemy Catalyst ("Alchemy Catalyst" quest), manasteel tools ("Manasteel Tools" quest), manasteel armor ("Manasteel Armor" quest), Spark ("Sparks" quest) and the Mana Splitter ("Mana Splitter" quest).[2]
- The Runic Altar quest leads to one quest per rune, such as a quest in "Botania" for Rune of Mana. "Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate" quest then asks for the Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate along with livingrock and Lapis blocks, and it comes after the Sparks quest and the five rune quests.[2]
- "Terrasteel Ingot" quest for the Terrasteel Ingot follows the plate. After it come the Mana Mirror ("Mana Mirror" quest), terrasteel tools ("Terrasteel Tools" quest) and "Portal to Alfheim" quest, the portal to Alfheim.[2]
- After the portal quest, "Alfheim resources" quest and "Better Lexica Botania" quest (Lexica Botania) follow. After the Alfheim resources quest you get the Conjuration Catalyst ("Conjuration Catalyst" quest), elementium tools ("Elementium Tools" quest), elementium armor ("Elementium Armor" quest) and the Elven Mana Spreader (a quest in "Botania").[2]
- "Fighting the Guardian of Gaia" quest asks for Gaia Pylon and a beacon. "Gaia Spirits" quest (Gaia Spirit) follows it, then "Fighting the Guardian of Gaia 2.0" quest (Gaia Spirit Ingot).[2]
- The Gaia 2.0 quest leads to the Flügel Tiara (a quest in "Botania"), the Black Hole Talisman (a quest in "Botania"), the Life Aggregator (a quest in "Botania") and the Dice of Fate (a quest in "Botania"). After the dice come Key of the King's Law, The Fruit of Grisaia, the rings of Thor, Loki and Odin, and Eye of the Flügel.[2]
The chapter also has side quests off this line. a quest in "Botania" (Band of Mana) follows the tablet quest, and a quest in "Botania" (Band of Aura) follows the Rune of Mana quest. "Mana Spreader upgrades" quest asks for the Mana Lens after the five rune quests.[2]
Botania in other chapters
- The Beginning (Storyline group): "Pebbles" quest asks for Pebble and cobblestone. It comes right after the welcome quest, and the Furnace and Hammers quests follow it.[10]
- End (Storyline group): a quest in "End" asks for the Ender Air Bottle.[3]
- Botanical Machinery + Extra (Production group): it starts with a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" for the Elementium Ingot. The Orechid (a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra") and the mechanical machines come after it. The upgrade quests come after a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[12]
- ProjectE Philo Stone (Production group): a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" asks for the Third Eye and a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" asks for the Black Hole Talisman. They are among the many quests that lead to a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone".[15]
- EndGame (Storyline group): a quest in "EndGame" asks for the Elven Gateway Core. It comes before a quest in "EndGame", which follows it and Infinity 2. After "The Beginning of the End" quest, a quest in "EndGame" asks for the Mana Tablet and a quest in "EndGame" asks for The Everlasting Guilty Pool. Both lead to the final quest, a quest in "EndGame".[13]
- Extended Crafting (Production group): Botania shows up here as plain hand-in quests, such as a quest in "Extended Crafting" for the Terrasteel Ingot, a quest in "Extended Crafting" for the Gaia Spirit Ingot and a quest in "Extended Crafting" for the Elementium Ingot. Part of this chapter's quest list is not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[16]
Which Botania config options matter?
2 parts
Botania in this pack has two config files: one for gameplay and one for visuals. Here are the options you are most likely to touch, with the exact values the pack ships.[6][17]
Gameplay options
- gardenOfGlass.islandScaleMultiplier is set to 8, with an allowed range of 1 to 512. Islands sit on a grid with 256 blocks between points, so a scale of 8 puts each island 2,048 blocks apart in multiplayer Garden of Glass worlds. Values below 4 (1,024 block spacing) are not recommended because of Nether portal collisions.[6]
- gardenOfGlass.spawnWithLexicon is true, so you spawn with a Lexica Botania in Garden of Glass worlds. It is meant to be turned off only if you change the pack's progression so you don't start with Botania.[6]
- harvestLevels.boreLens is 3 (diamond level) and harvestLevels.weightLens is 2 (iron level). The file's comments describe both as the defaults, so the pack leaves them alone.[6]
- manaSpreaders.traceTime is 400 ticks. It controls how far ahead spreaders predict where mana bursts go. Lowering it improves spreader performance, but spreaders will stop firing at targets that are too far away.[6]
- manaSpreaders.silent is false, so spreaders keep their shooting sound. Set it to true to mute them.[6]
- flowerBindingForceCheck is true, which makes flowers strict about checking their connection to pools and spreaders. Turn it off only on an extremely large world with a huge number of spreaders and pools where you are seeing TPS lag.[6]
- rannuncarpus.modBlacklist is set to ["storagedrawers"], so rannuncarpuses ignore Storage Drawers. The comment says this is because placing drawer blocks without a player caused crashes. rannuncarpus.itemBlacklist is empty.[6]
- manaEnchanter and relics are both true, so the Mana Enchanter and the Relic System are enabled. Setting either to false only removes the entries and creation (and for relics, the drops and achievements). Ones already in the world stay.[6]
- invertMagnetRing is false, so the Ring of Magnetization keeps its normal controls. enderPickpocket is true, which lets the Hand of Ender pickpocket other players' ender chests.[6]
- blockBreakingParticles.enabled, blockBreakingParticles.toolEnabled and chargeAnimation are all true. The tool option covers the Terra Shatterer, which can produce a lot of particles at higher levels.[6]
Client and visual options
- rendering.staticFloaters is false. If you use lots of floating flowers and get rendering lag, set it to true to render them statically for a major performance boost, then hit F3+A in-world.[17]
- particles.staticWandBeam is false because the static beam may be laggy. particles.powerSystem is also false. Set it to true for more subtle power system particles on low-end systems.[17]
- particles.flowerFrequency is 0.75, which sets how often particles spawn from normal worldgen mystical flowers.[17]
- rendering.shaders is true. Changing it needs a game restart.[17]
- rendering.manaBarHeight is 29. Change it if another mod moves the XP bar.[17]
- rendering.fancySkybox.enabled is true and rendering.fancySkybox.normalWorlds is false, so the fancy skybox only shows in Garden of Glass. Turning on the normal worlds option also needs the first option to be true.[17]
- rendering.lexicon.render_3d and rendering.lexicon.rotatingItems are true, so the Lexica Botania keeps its animated 3D render and rotating items. rendering.boundBlockWireframe is true too, which shows the wireframe on blocks bound to something.[17]
- debugInfo, seasonalFeatures, splashes and references are all true, so you still get the F3 messages, seasonal features, menu splashes and flower tooltip references.[17]
What changed in Botania between versions?
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Botania 1.20.1-455-FORGE. It has been in the pack since Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so you won't find an older Botania build in recent versions.[1]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for Botania, and the text of the mod's own changelogs for builds 450 to 454 wasn't available to me. I can't say what changed in those builds, or whether the pack changed any Botania values or recipes along the way.
