What is Common Ore Library?

1 part

Common Ore Library is in the pack as version 2.0.0-1.20.1, and it has been there since Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier. What you will notice in play is the metal ingots it adds under its own namespace: Aluminum Ingot, Brass Ingot, Cobalt Ingot, Iridium Ingot, Manyullyn Ingot, Platinum Ingot, Tungsten Ingot and Zinc Ingot.[1][2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest book gives these ingots their own quests in the "Extended Crafting" chapter. That chapter is in the "Production" group and is chapter 37 of 44 in the book. Each quest is a simple item task: you hand in the ingot. For example, there are quests for a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting" and a quest in "Extended Crafting".[2]

You will not be alone in that chapter. It has 248 quests, and the ones I can see ask for ingots and alloys from many other mods, plus a lot of Extended Crafting singularity quests. There is also a "Welcome to Extended Crafting" quest, which is a simple checkmark. The quest text for 113 of the chapter's quests is not shown here, so check the quest book itself for those.[2]

The quests I can see for this mod are all in that one chapter, and nothing in them puts the mod on the ATM Star path. I also can't tell from these sources which chapters come directly before or after it in the book.[2]

How do you get started with Common Ore Library?

5 parts

Common Ore Library supplies the shared metals in this pack: ingots, dusts, plates, gears, rods, ores and molten fluids for metals like aluminum, brass, cobalt, zinc and platinum. Other mods' recipes in the pack take and produce these items. A good way to start is the aluminum chain, because it shows up in lots of machine recipes.[3][4]

Step 1: Get an aluminum ingot

Your first target is Aluminum Ingot. The blasting recipe for aluminum ore is one the pack changed, so use the one below.[3]

Aluminum IngotChanged by the pack

Blasting

  • any aluminum ore

If you don't have a natural source of ore yet, the pack adds a recipe that turns an Aluminum Ore Chunk into Aluminum Ore.[3]

Step 2: Make dust and gears

Next, make Aluminum Dust by hand with an ore hammer. This recipe is also changed by the pack, and it gives you 2 dust. Dust is worth having because machines from several mods, such as Mekanism enriching and the Thermal pulverizer, make it.[3]

Step 3: Plates and brass

A hand-made Aluminum Plate is the next useful part, and the pack changed this recipe too.[3]

Step 4: Cobalt from essence

The pack adds its own way to get Cobalt Ingot: one crafting recipe turns cobalt essence into 6 ingots.[3]

Where the quest book comes in

The quest book asks for this mod's ingots in its Extended Crafting chapter. Some quests in that chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[2]

Several quests there ask you to hand in this mod's ingots: a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting", a quest in "Extended Crafting" and a quest in "Extended Crafting". Each one is listed before the quest "The one and only" quest in the book.[2]

How does Common Ore Library work?

4 parts

Common Ore Library is a materials mod, so the "mechanics" here are about what its items and fluids do inside other mods' machines. Its language file lists ores, raw and storage blocks, dusts, nuggets, ingots, plates, gears, rods and a long set of molten metal fluids with matching buckets. The sources don't show any machines, multiblocks or power systems belonging to the mod itself, so everything below is how its materials move through machines from other mods.[3][4]

Molten metal: crucible and chiller

Molten metals are real fluids, and Thermal's crucible and chiller are the machines that make and use them in this pack. Take aluminum as the example: a crucible melts an aluminum gear into 360 of Molten Aluminum. A chiller then turns 90 of that fluid plus an ingot cast into an Aluminum Ingot.[3]

  • any aluminum gear

Chiller (thermal)

A gear takes the other cast. The chiller recipe for an Aluminum Gear uses 360 molten aluminum and a gear cast, which matches what the crucible gives back when you melt one.[3]

Chiller (thermal)

Recipe id: thermal_processing:machine/chiller/to_gear/aluminum

This isn't a one-off. The recipe dump counts 192 crucible recipes making this mod's fluids, and 30 chiller recipes that make its items. 22 of the chiller ingredients are this mod's molten fluids.[3]

Ore to dust to ingot

Several machines can process the same ore, and the pack has changed some of those routes. These are the ones the sources confirm:[3]

  • Mekanism's enriching recipe turns an aluminum ore into 2 Aluminum Dust. The pack changed this recipe.[3]
  • NuclearCraft's manufactory turns a raw cobalt material into 2 Cobalt Dust. The pack changed this recipe too.[3]
  • The pack's own manufactory script also covers cobalt ore, plus Ex Deorum aluminum and iridium ore chunks. Each gives 2 dust.[5]
  • Thermal's smelter turns aluminum ore into an aluminum ingot, and it also gives thermal:cinnabar and thermal:rich_slag. This is a mod recipe.[3]
  • Blasting an aluminum ore also gives an aluminum ingot. The pack changed this recipe.[3]
  • Thermal's pulverizer turns amethyst gems into Amethyst Dust.[3]

Ex Deorum ore chunks can also be crafted into this mod's ores for aluminum, zinc, cobalt, platinum and iridium. That helps if you get your ore through sieving instead of mining.[6]

Alloys, presses and the pack's changes

Brass can be made in several ways in this pack. Thermal's smelter makes 2 Brass Ingot from copper and zinc dusts and ingots, which is a mod recipe. The pack added an EnderIO alloy smelting recipe that turns brass dust into a brass ingot. A furnace-type smelting recipe for brass dust also exists, and the pack changed it.[3]

Brass IngotAdded by the pack

Alloy Smelting (enderio)

  • any brass dusts

Recipe id: enderio:smelting/alltheores/brass_ingot_from_dust

Presses make rods and unpack blocks. With a rod die, Thermal's press turns an aluminum ingot into 2 Aluminum Rod. With an unpacking die it turns an aluminum block into 9 ingots.[3]

Press (thermal)

Recipe id: thermal_processing:machine/press/rods/aluminum

Bronze Rod works the same way but uses a different die (thermal_extra:press_rod_die), and the pack changed that recipe. It also gives 2 rods per bronze ingot.[3]

Tip: NuclearCraft's target chamber can turn a copper ingot into a Zinc Ingot. The pack changed this recipe, so check it in the recipe viewer before you rely on a different zinc route.[3]

Hand crafting

Not everything needs a machine. The mod's own recipe makes an aluminum gear in the crafting grid, and the pack changed the aluminum plate and aluminum block recipes. The plate needs one of the ore hammers.[3]

You'll also meet these materials in the pack's own end-game recipes. Manyullyn Ingot is an ingredient in the cobalt capacitor recipe. Platinum Plate is used in the Extended Crafting table recipe for the ProjectE Condenser Mk1.[7][8]

How do you progress through Common Ore Library?

3 parts

In this pack, Common Ore Library shows up as a set of shared metals, dusts and plates that other mods and the quest book ask for. The sources here show no tier ladder for the mod itself, so its place in progression comes from the Extended Crafting quest chapter and the pack's changed and added recipes.[2][3]

Where the quest book uses it

The chapter "Extended Crafting" sits in the Production group. Most of its quests are one-item submission quests for an ingot, alloy or singularity. Eight of those ingot quests ask for this mod's metals, and none of them lists a prerequisite in the chapter data.[2]

Those eight quests ask you to hand in Aluminum Ingot, Brass Ingot, Cobalt Ingot, Zinc Ingot, Platinum Ingot, Iridium Ingot, Tungsten Ingot and Manyullyn Ingot.[2]

All eight are prerequisites of the quest "The one and only" (The Ultimate Ingot). That quest has a very long list of ingot quests in front of it, so these metals are just a few of the many you collect on the way.[2]

Getting each metal in this pack

Here is where the pack has changed or added routes for these metals. Anything marked as changed or added differs from the mod's defaults.[3]

Handy extras

Tip: The pack adds stonecutting recipes that convert other mods' storage blocks into this mod's blocks. For example, aluminum blocks from All The Ores and NuclearCraft become Aluminum Block. Thermal's bronze block becomes Bronze Block, and Mekanism's uranium block becomes Uranium Block.[3]

The pack's Armor Plus script also crafts the cobalt and manyullyn armor sets (helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots) from ingots of those metals, so those ingots have a use beyond the quest book.[9]

How does Common Ore Library work with other mods?

4 parts

Common Ore Library supplies the shared metals, dusts, molten fluids and blocks that other mods in the pack build on. You see it most in Thermal machines, in the pack's block-conversion recipes, and in the endgame crafting recipes.[3]

Thermal machines

Thermal is the biggest partner. The recipe dump counts 58 Thermal Press recipes that make this mod's items, plus 22 more that use Thermal Processing dies. Smelting a pack-wide block into ingots is one example: the press with an unpacking die turns an aluminum block into 9 Aluminum Ingot.[3]

Press (thermal)

Recipe id: thermal_processing:machine/press/block_to_ingot/aluminum

The pack changed the bronze rod recipe. It now uses the Rod Die and makes 2 Bronze Rod from bronze ingots.[3]

2× Bronze RodChanged by the pack

Press (thermal)

Recipe id: thermal_extra:machine/press/bronze_rod

The Thermal Chiller is where the molten fluids come in. The dump counts 30 chiller recipes that take this mod's molten fluids and make this mod's items. With an ingot cast, 90 Molten Aluminum make one Aluminum Ingot. With a gear cast, 360 make an Aluminum Gear. Molten bronze works the same way but gives you Thermal's own Bronze Ingot and Bronze Gear.[3]

Aluminum IngotMod recipe

Chiller (thermal)

Recipe id: thermal_processing:machine/chiller/to_ingot/aluminum

The pack changed the osmium chiller recipe. 90 Molten Osmium and an ingot cast now give Mekanism's Osmium Ingot. Molten Scrap chills into Netherite Scrap.[3]

Ore processing also crosses over. Smelting aluminum ore gives an Aluminum Ingot plus Cinnabar and Rich Slag. The pulverizer gives Aluminum Dust, Gravel and cinnabar. The bottler turns an ore plus 100 Molten Sulfur into 3 aluminum dust. The pack changed the platinum ore pulverizer so it gives Platinum Dust, gravel and Tin Dust.[3]

Block and ore conversions

The pack adds stonecutting recipes so blocks from different mods can be swapped. This mod's Aluminum Block converts to and from the AllTheOres and NuclearCraft aluminum blocks, and to and from Chisel Chipped's Block of Aluminum. There are 21 stonecutting recipes from this mod's blocks into Chisel Chipped blocks. Bronze Block and Thermal's Block of Bronze convert both ways too, and the dump counts 7 recipes in each direction between this mod and Thermal.[3]

Stonecutting

Ex Deorum's Aluminum Ore Chunk can be crafted into Aluminum Ore in the pack. NuclearCraft's manufactory turns a chunk into 2 aluminum dust. The pack also changed the Industrial Foregoing laser drill recipe that uses Laser Lens12 to give Raw Aluminum.[3]

Alloys and endgame crafting

The pack adds an Evolved Mekanism alloying recipe that uses this mod's Scrap Dust to make Thermal Extra's Dragonsteel Ingot.[3]

Several Mystical Agriculture seeds need this mod's metals, using a different crafting method for each. Iridium Seeds use an Extended Crafting table and an Iridium Block. Cobalt Seeds use an Extended Crafting combination with 8 Cobalt Block. Brass Seeds use a Botania runic altar and 4 Brass Ingot. The pack also lets Cobalt Essence be crafted into 6 Cobalt Ingot.[3]

The metals appear in other pack recipes too. The Energy Condenser recipe from Extreme ProjectE needs a Platinum Plate. The Modular Machinery loot fabrication plant controller needs 2 cobalt blocks. Aurantium Block can be crafted into a Brass Nugget.[3]

The pack's custom capacitors script also uses Manyullyn Ingot in its cobalt capacitor recipe.[7]

In the quest book

The "Extended Crafting" chapter sits in the Production group and is chapter 37 of 44 in the book. It has 248 quests, and many of them ask you to obtain an ingot. Several are this mod's ingots: a quest in "Extended Crafting" for aluminum, a quest in "Extended Crafting" for cobalt, a quest in "Extended Crafting" for brass, a quest in "Extended Crafting" for manyullyn, a quest in "Extended Crafting" for iridium, a quest in "Extended Crafting" for platinum, a quest in "Extended Crafting" for zinc and a quest in "Extended Crafting" for tungsten. The rest of the chapter's quests are in the quest book.[2]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Common Ore Library?

2 parts

In the pack's quest book, the ingots from this mod are asked for in the "Extended Crafting" chapter, which is in the "Production" group. The quests below ask you to hand in ingots whose items come from Common Ore Library.[2]

The ingot quests

Each of these quests has one task: have the ingot in your inventory. The quest book lists no prerequisite quest for any of them.[2]

Where they lead

Every one of these ingot quests is listed before "The one and only" quest, titled "The one and only". That quest asks you to hand in The Ultimate Ingot, and it also lists a very long run of other ingot quests, covering ingots from Minecraft, Thermal, Mekanism, Mystical Agriculture and many other mods.[2]

Next in line, a quest in "Extended Crafting" (The Ultimate Component) follows "The one and only" together with the Black Iron Slate and Luminessence quests.[2]

Tip: The chapter opens with "Welcome to Extended Crafting" quest, a checkmark quest. Black Iron Ingot, Ender Ingot and Redstone Ingot are listed after it. The ingot quests above are not listed after that opening quest.[2]
