What is Industrial Foregoing?

1 part

Industrial Foregoing is a mod for automating most of Minecraft's functions. It covers mob and animal farming, plant farming, Infinity tools, big item and fluid storage and transport, power generation, and enchantment sorting and creation. This pack includes version 3.5.22.[1][2]

Getting started is all about latex. Place a Fluid Extractor in front of a log to collect it, then run it through a Latex Processing Unit with water and power to make tiny piles of rubber. The in-game guide says getting Plastic is one of the most important things in this mod, so master it early.[1][3][4][5][6][7]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book gives the mod its own chapter, "Industrial Foregoing", in the "Production" group. The book lists it as chapter 38 of 44, with 47 quests. Here is the order the quests ask you to follow:[7]

The quest sources for this chapter don't mark it as part of the ATM Star path, so you can treat it as a side track.[7]

The mod also shows up in the "Challenges" group. Its Legendary Challenges chapter has "Supreme Machine Network" quest, which asks you to hand in 256 of the Supreme Machine Frame.[8]

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing?

4 parts

Your first goal in Industrial Foregoing is plastic. The mod's own guide says getting plastic is one of the most important things in the mod, so it's worth getting this chain right. The pack's quest chapter walks you through it early on.[3][7]

Start with a Pity Machine Frame

The "Industrial Foregoing" chapter sits in the Production group (chapter 38 of 44 in the quest book). After an opening checkmark quest, the first real task is a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", which asks for a Pity Machine Frame. This pack changes that recipe from the mod's own, so use the one below.[7][9]

Collect latex

Next comes the Fluid Extractor (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). Place it in front of a log and it extracts latex. It consumes the log, then the stripped version, which finally disappears. Several extractors can work on the same log, and power is optional but makes the machine work faster. Each log gives a different amount of latex, and the guide says to check JEI for the rates.[4][7]

In this pack the extractor's latex tank is set to 1,000 mB in MachineCoreConfig.FluidExtractorConfig.maxLatexTankSize.[10]

Then build the Latex Processing Unit (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). It uses 100 mB of latex and 500 mB of water, plus power, to make 1 Tiny Dry Rubber. In this pack it draws 20 FE per tick, set by MachineCoreConfig.LatexProcessingUnitConfig.powerPerTick.[5][7][10]

Tip: You need power for these machines. The Pitiful Generator burns fuels like coal, and in this pack it produces 30 FE per tick (see MachineGeneratorConfig.PitifulGeneratorConfig.powerPerTick). It is very inefficient: it keeps burning fuel even when its energy buffer is full.[11][12]

From rubber to plastic

The tiny pieces are combined into Dry Rubber, and you smelt that into Plastic. The quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for both items.[7][9]

Dissolution Chamber and the next frames

a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" for the Dissolution Chamber comes right after Dry Rubber. It crafts with up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid. All its recipes are shapeless, and once a recipe is present the machine locks every slot so nothing else can go in. This pack sets its power use to 90 FE per tick in MachineCoreConfig.DissolutionChamberConfig.powerPerTick, and the file's comment lists 60 as the default.[7][10][13]

After the chamber the book offers the Simple Machine Frame (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). The Advanced Machine Frame (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing") comes after both the Simple Machine Frame and the Pink Slime Bucket (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). That bucket comes from the Mob Slaughter Factory (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"), a branch that opens right after the Pity Machine Frame. The factory turns mobs and animals into Liquid Meat and Pink Slime, and the mobs it kills give no drops or experience.[7][14]

The Advanced Machine Frame is worth the effort. In the quest book it leads on to the Mob Crusher, Enchantment Extractor, Potion Brewer, Stasis Chamber and more.[7]

How does Industrial Foregoing work?

7 parts

Industrial Foregoing is all about automating just about everything in Minecraft: farming, mobs, power, enchanting and moving stuff around. This section walks through how the machines hang together, with the numbers this pack uses.[1]

Getting plastic first

The in-game guide calls plastic one of the most important things in the mod, so it is the first chain to master. It starts with a Fluid Extractor placed in front of a log. It pulls latex out of the wood, and several extractors can work on the same log at once. Power is optional, but supplying it makes the machine work faster.[3][4]

In this pack the extractor holds up to 1,000 mB of latex (MachineCoreConfig.FluidExtractorConfig.maxLatexTankSize) and uses 500 power per operation (MachineCoreConfig.FluidExtractorConfig.powerPerOperation). The mod default for that value is 10, so this is a pack change.[10]

Next the Latex Processing Unit turns 100 mB of latex and 500 mB of water into 1 Tiny Dry Rubber. The pack configures it at 20 power per tick, with 16,000 mB tanks for both latex and water.[5][10]

Finally, the pack adds its own alloy smelting recipe that turns Dry Rubber into Plastic.[9]

Power buffers, addons and the Dissolution Chamber

Every machine has its own power buffer, cooldown and tank sizes. They are split across five config files in the pack: machine-core, machine-generator, machine-misc, machine-agriculture-husbandry and machine-resource-production. If a machine feels slow or hungry, check its entry there first.[10][12][15][16][17]

Addons tweak how a machine works, and each tier stacks:[18]

  • Range: widens the working area by 1 per tier. Not every machine accepts range addons.[18]
  • Speed: the progress bar advances by 1 more per tier each tick.[18]
  • Efficiency: cuts the ticks needed per operation by 10% per tier.[18]
  • Processing: +1 operation per tier when a machine finishes processing.[18]

The pack changes how some addons are made. Range Addon1 has a pack-modified Dissolution Chamber recipe, and Efficiency Addon 1 has a crafting route added by the pack.[9]

The Dissolution Chamber is the mod's crafting workhorse. It takes up to 8 items and 1 fluid, and it can output items and/or fluids. All recipes are shapeless, so slot order does not matter, and once a recipe is present the machine locks the slots. In this pack it has an 8,000 mB input tank, a 16,000 mB output tank and uses 90 power per tick.[10][13]

The Advanced Machine Frame is made this way, and the pack changes the cheaper Pity Machine Frame recipe too. The Infinity Backpack is also a Dissolution Chamber recipe. It can hold biofuel, essence and liquid meat as its 3 fluids.[9][19]

Power generation

  • Pitiful Generator: burns fuels like coal and is so inefficient that it keeps burning fuel even when its buffer is full. The pack sets it to produce 30 per tick, extract 1,000 per tick and store 100,000.[11][12][20]
  • Biofuel Generator: guide says 160 per tick, and the pack config agrees with powerPerTick at 160. It stops consuming fuel when its buffer is full. In this pack it extracts 500 per tick, has a 4,000 mB biofuel tank and stores 1,000,000.[12][21]
  • Bioreactor: feed it water plus seeds, saplings, dyes and even skulls to make biofuel. More different item types means more biofuel per item: 1 item gives 80 mB, but 4 different items give 110 mB each for 440 mB. The pack gives it 16,000 mB water and biofuel tanks.[12][22]
  • Mycelial Reactor: it detects the other mycelial generators over the Mycelial Network and makes massive amounts of FE, but only while one of each generator is working at the same time.[23]

The pack changes the recipe of the Crimed Mycelial Generator, one of those mycelial generators.[9]

Farming and mob chains

Most farming machines hand fluids to each other. Here are the main links:[24]

  • Sewer to Sewage Composter: the Sewer collects sewage from animals and experience and turns it into essence. The Sewage Composter turns sewage into Fertilizer, which works like bonemeal.[25][26][27]
  • Plant Gatherer to Sludge Refiner: each harvest makes a little sludge, which the Sludge Refiner turns into something useful. The pack configures the refiner at 40 power per tick.[17][28][29]
  • Mob Crusher: kills mobs as a player would, using the mob's loot pool, and makes essence. It has an alternate mode that gives drops with random fortune levels instead of essence. The pack gives it a 32,000 mB essence tank and 75 attack damage for blacklisted entities.[16][30]
  • Mob Slaughter Factory: turns mobs and animals into Liquid Meat and Pink Slime without drops or experience. Passive mobs give more pink slime.[14]
  • Mob Duplicator: spawns mobs from an entity stored in a Mob Imprisonment Tool, using power and essence, and stops if too many entities are nearby. The pack needs 12 essence per point of mob health, makes no exact copies, uses 5,000 power per operation and has a 20,000 mB tank.[16][31][32]
  • Animal Feeder: stops working once 35 animals are in its area in this pack. The Animal Baby Separator teleports babies to the back of the machine.[16][33][34]

Plants have their own machines. The Hydroponic Bed speeds up crops with power and water (lava for nether crops), and a tiny amount of Ether Gas makes them grow much faster and replant automatically. The Plant Gatherer also replants automatically when given small amounts of ether. The Plant Sower has 9 colour-coded slots, and each one matches a segment of its working area.[28][35][36]

Watch out: The Plant Fertilizer keeps applying bonemeal to the same crop until it stops accepting it. It can get stuck on plants that always accept bonemeal, like Sunflowers, or plants that never reach their final growth state.[37]

Ore processing and lasers

The ore chain runs through a series of machines. The Washing Factory combines Liquid Meat with an ore to make raw ore meat. The Fermentation Station ferments that meat. The Fluid Sieving Machine then uses fermented meat and sand to make dust of the original ore.[38][39][40]

Fermentation gets better the longer it runs. In this pack the config sets 100 ticks for 2x, 900 for 3x, 2,400 for 4x and 6,000 for 5x production.[17]

Lasers are the other route. A Laser Drill charges the first Ore Laser Base and Fluid Laser Base it finds in its working area. Ore output is weighted by biome and mining depth, and laser lenses raise an ore's weight. The pack config sets the catalyst modifier at 8. A Fluid Laser Base needs a catalyst that is not consumed, a specific biome and depth, and sometimes an entity under the machine.[17][41][42][43]

The pack adds its own Fluid Laser recipe for Ether Gas. It uses Laser Lens11 as the catalyst and the entity allthemodium:piglich, yielding 25 mB at depths 0 to 256 with weight 8. The guide only mentions a Wither for Ether Gas, so this is a pack addition. Ether Gas is also used by a pack reaction recipe for Nether Stars, at 50 mB.[44][45][46]

Moving items and fluids

  • Conveyors carry items, entities and fluids. Items and entities can go up and down, but fluids only go horizontally. Glowstone makes them very fast, and plastic stops items on top from being picked up.[47]
  • Conveyor upgrades add extraction, insertion, detection, bouncing, dropping, blinking and splitting. Most can be filtered in the GUI, and entities can be filtered with a Mob Imprisonment Tool holding that entity.[48]
  • Item and Fluid Transporters move things between inventories 1 block away, so you need one on the extraction side and one on the insertion side. Right-click the middle area to change modes, and use Speed and Efficiency Addons on the outer ring to speed them up or move more.[49][50]
  • World Transporters pick up items from the world into inventories or drop items out of them.[51]

Utility machines

The simple block machines are all set to 1,000 power per operation in this pack: Block Breaker, Block Placer, Fluid Collector and Fluid Placer. The Marine Fisher needs a water pool at least 3x3 and 1 block deep and costs 5,000 per operation.[17][52][53][54][55][56]

Mechanical Dirt spawns mobs when normal spawn conditions are met, with light level 7 or lower. It costs 20 mB of Liquid Meat per operation, and connected blocks share power and meat equally. The pack gives it a 4,000 mB meat tank and 1,000 power per operation. The Wither Builder needs 3 Wither Skulls and 4 soulsand, and in this pack it uses 20,000 power per operation with a 70,000 buffer.[16][17][57][58]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing?

8 parts

The pack's quest book has a chapter called Industrial Foregoing in the Production group (chapter 38 of 44, 47 quests). It is a tier ladder built on machine frames: Pity, Simple, Advanced, then Supreme. Plastic is the thing you need to master first, because the frames and many machines use it.[3][7][9]

Pity tier: where the chapter starts

The chapter opens with a checkmark quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", then asks for the Pity Machine Frame a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". Two branches open from it: the Fluid Extractor and the Mob Slaughter Factory. The pack changed the Pity Machine Frame recipe from the mod's version.[7][9]

Latex, plastic and the Dissolution Chamber

The Fluid Extractor pulls latex out of logs. The Latex Processing Unit then turns 100 mb of latex and 500 mb of water into 1 Tiny Dry Rubber (Deprecated). The next quest, a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", asks for both Dry Rubber and Plastic.[4][5][7]

The mod's own recipes combine nine Tiny Dry Rubber into one Dry Rubber and smelt Dry Rubber into Plastic. The pack adds two more ways to get Plastic: an alloy smelting recipe for Dry Rubber, and a crafting recipe that gives 2 Plastic.[9]

The last quests after the Supreme frame are the Supreme Black Hole Tank, the Supreme Black Hole Unit and the Wither Builder. The pack also changed the Hydroponic Bed recipe: it is now made in an Extended Crafting table and uses a Supreme Machine Frame.[7][9]

Addons

The Dissolution Chamber also unlocks a tier 1 and tier 2 quest line for the speed, efficiency and processing addons. Once the second tier of all three is done, a closing checkmark quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" completes. There is also a Heal Addon 1 quest after the Stasis Chamber.[7]

The pack added crafting recipes for both efficiency addons, each made from a dummy item.[9]

Beyond the chapter

Supreme tier machines come back in the pack's challenge and endgame content. The Legendary Challenges chapter has a quest asking for 256 Supreme Machine Frames "Supreme Machine Network" quest. The EndGame chapter asks for 4 Supreme Black Hole Units a quest in "EndGame", and that quest is one of the prerequisites of the Creative ME Item Cell quest.[8][59]

How does Industrial Foregoing work with other mods?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing is tied into a lot of other mods in this pack. Most of the links are recipes where one of its machines, frames or lenses is an ingredient in something from another mod, and a few come from the pack's own scripts. Here is what the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[7][9]

Laser lenses and ores

The pack changed several Laser Drill ore recipes so that Industrial Foregoing lenses give ores from other mods. Laser Lens14 gives Cinnabar Ore, Laser Lens12 gives Raw Aluminum, and Laser Lens8 gives Fluorite Ore. These are the ones I can show you, and the recipe dump lists more lens recipes of the same kind.[9]

Some lenses from addon mods turn into Industrial Foregoing lenses with a dye. A Stygian Laser Lens becomes Laser Lens15, and a Dragon Laser Lens becomes Laser Lens0.[9]

Laser Lens0Mod recipe

Recipe id: ifeu:laser_lens0_dragon

Ether Gas from a Piglich

The mod's own guide says the Fluid Laser Base makes Ether Gas when it sits on top of a Wither. The pack adds a second route: a fluid laser recipe using Laser Lens11 with the Allthemodium Piglich (allthemodium:piglich) as the target. It outputs 25 mB of Ether Gas, with a weight of 8 and a depth range of 0 to 256.[44][45]

The quest book follows this order too. The a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" quest comes after a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", and a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" comes after the Ether Gas Bucket quest.[7]

Machines and upgrades

The Mob Crusher Upgrade is made in the Dissolution Chamber, and it takes Mob Crushers together with Upgrade Base from Woot.[9]

Dissolution Chamber (industrialforegoing)

Recipe id: ifwootaddon:dissolution_chamber/mob_crusher_upgrade

The pack also added recipes that convert Efficiency Addon 1 into Efficiency Addon 1 Dummy Item and back again. Other recipes of the same kind link the speed and processing addons to KubeJS items, but I can't show those individually.[9]

The Pink Slime Ingot also shows up in the pack's script for the Cobalt Capacitor from Custom Capacitors, Cobalt Capacitor.[60]

Endgame crafting tables

The pack changed the Hydroponic Bed recipe so it is crafted in an Extended Crafting table. It uses gears from Ender IO, an alloy from Mekanism Extras, a Compact Water Collector from NuclearCraft and Industrial Foregoing's own Supreme Machine Frame and Water Condensator.[9]

The Simulated Hydroponic Bed is also a table recipe the pack changed. It takes a Hydroponic Bed plus hoes, farmland and fertilizers from many different mods. The mod's guide says it generates crop drops based on the data on the Hydroponic Simulation Processor.[9][61]

Industrial Foregoing's machine frames also climb the Wind Generator line from Compact Mekanism Machines. The pack changed these recipes, and they use the Simple Machine Frame at Wind Generator x32, the Advanced Machine Frame at Wind Generator x2048 and the Supreme Machine Frame from Wind Generator x8192 upwards.[9]

Some of the pack's creative items need Industrial Foregoing parts too. The Creative ME Item Cell needs a Supreme Black Hole Unit, the Creative Fluid Storage Disk needs a Supreme Black Hole Tank, and the Creative Fluid Tank needs a Fluid Sieving Machine. The pack added all of these recipes, and they are crafted in Extended Crafting tables.[9]

In the quest book

The Industrial Foregoing chapter sits in the Production group, as chapter 38 of 44, with 47 quests. A few of its quests ask for items from addon mods. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" comes after the Advanced Machine Frame quest, and a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" follows it. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" comes after a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" comes after a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" comes after a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" needs both the Simple Machine Frame quest and an Unobtainium Ingot quest first.[7]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Industrial Foregoing?

3 parts

Most of the Industrial Foregoing quests sit in one chapter of the quest book, also called "Industrial Foregoing", in the Production group. A few more quests elsewhere in the book ask for items from the mod too, and I cover those at the end. Everything below is what the quests ask you to hand in, and the order the book puts them in.[7]

The main chapter, branch by branch

The chapter opens with an untitled checkmark quest (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). After it, a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks you to hand in the Pity Machine Frame. Every other quest in the chapter comes after that one.[7]

After the Advanced Machine Frame

The Advanced Machine Frame quest leads into the biggest group in the chapter. Each of these asks you for one machine: a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" and a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" asks for both the Advanced Black Hole Tank and the Advanced Black Hole Unit. a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" comes after the Stasis Chamber quest.[7]

a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" also comes after the Advanced Machine Frame quest, and a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" follows it.[7]

The main line continues with a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", which asks for three items together: the Fluid Laser Base, the Ore Laser Base and the Laser Drill. Then comes a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", then a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". The Supreme Machine Frame quest comes before the last three quests: a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" and a quest in "Industrial Foregoing".[7]

Which Industrial Foregoing config options matter?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing is tuned through several machine files under config/industrialforegoing in this pack. Each option has a comment that lists the mod default, so you can see exactly where the pack changed things. All power figures are in FE and tank sizes are in mB.[10][12][15][16][17]

Power generation

Core machines

Farming and mobs

Resource production

  • The Block Breaker, Block Placer, Fluid Collector, Fluid Placer, Mechanical Dirt and Water Condensator all use 1000 per operation, where the file comments list a default of 400.[17]
  • Tank changes: the Water Condensator holds 16,000 mB of water (default 8,000 mB), the Mechanical Dirt meat tank is 4,000 mB (default 8,000 mB) and the Spore Recreator water tank is 1,000 mB (default 8,000 mB).[17]
  • Fermentation Station: the 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x production thresholds are 100, 900, 2,400 and 6,000 ticks, matching the defaults written in the file comments.[17]

Enchantment machines

Enchantment machines are mostly at their defaults. MachineMiscConfig.EnchantmentApplicatorConfig.ignoreEnchantMaxLevels is false, so the Enchantment Applicator does not ignore max levels. The Stasis Chamber costs 1000 per operation (default 400), and MachineMiscConfig.StasisChamberConfig.disableBossBars is true.[15]

What changed in Industrial Foregoing between versions?

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Industrial Foregoing 3.5.22 (the industrial-foregoing-1.20.1-3.5.22.jar file). The mod was first included in the pack in version 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it has been part of Project Infinity for a good while.[2]

Unverified The detailed changes in the mod's own 3.5.21 and 3.5.22 changelogs were not available when this section was written, and there are no pack changelog entries for this mod. What changed between those versions, and whether the pack altered anything in them, is unverified.
