What is Chipped?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Chipped is a building mod that gives you a huge range of decorative block variants. The project page advertises over 11,000 unique building blocks, from stained glass variations to concrete, prismarine and gilded blackstone. The textures are hand-made in the vanilla style, and many of them are connected textures powered by Athena.[1]

If you've ever used Chisel, you'll get the idea straight away. Chipped is inspired by it and is built for anyone who wants more variety in their builds, whether that's a castle, a nether fortress or a plain dirt house.[1]

How you use it

You start by crafting one of the seven tables, which turn various vanilla blocks into their chipped variants. The tables all look different but work the same way, so pick whichever suits your build, or make a few different ones and spread them around your base.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Chipped 4.0.2, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Chipped fits in the pack's progression, and they don't show any recipe changes. Check the recipes in-game before you plan around them. This site does hold Project Infinity 0.1's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Chipped?

3 parts

Chipped is a building mod that gives you extra variants of vanilla blocks. To get started, all you do is craft one of its seven tables. They look different but work the same, so pick whichever fits your base.[1]

This pack goes big on it. The recipe dump counts 6,968 stonecutting recipes that take vanilla ingredients and make Chipped blocks, with 6,960 different results from 274 different ingredients. The ones written out in the dump are added by the pack.[3]

Step 1: Craft a table

The seven tables are the Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench, Carpenters Table, Glassblower, Loom Table, Mason Table and the Tinkering Table.[1][3]

The pack changed the recipes for the Carpenters Table, the Glassblower and the Mason Table. The rest use the mod's own recipes. Here are the pack versions first.[3]

Tip: You only need one table to begin. Since they all work the same, you can make a few different ones later and spread them around your base for looks.[1]

Step 2: Turn a vanilla block into a Chipped one

Once you have a table, start with a plain vanilla block you already have. The recipes the pack adds are listed as stonecutting recipes. Here are some to try:[1][3]

Here is one of those recipes as it works in this pack:[3]

Where to go next

After that it is about experimenting. Pick a vanilla block you like, check which Chipped variants it can turn into, and build with them.[1][3]

How does Chipped work?

2 parts

Chipped is a building mod that expands the variety of blocks you can use, with over 11,000 unique building blocks. The one system you need to learn is how to turn vanilla blocks into their chipped variants.[1]

The seven tables

You start by crafting one of seven tables. They all look different but work the same, so pick whichever fits your build, or make a few different ones and spread them out around your home.[1]

In this pack, the recipes for the Carpenters Table, the Glassblower and the Mason Table have been changed from the mod's own versions. The Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench, Loom Table and Tinkering Table keep the mod recipes. Here is the changed Carpenters Table recipe as an example.[3]

Stonecutting recipes

The recipe dump counts 6,968 stonecutting recipes that take Minecraft ingredients and make Chipped items. They cover 6,960 different results and 274 different ingredients.[3]

The recipes written out in the dump are simple one-to-one conversions added by the pack. A barrel gives you the Acacia Barrel, and acacia planks give you the Acacia Planks Mosaic, the Acacia Planks Panel or the Acacia Planks Shavings.[3]

Acacia Planks PanelAdded by the pack

Stonecutting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/chipped_acacia_planks_panel

Added by the pack as a stonecutting recipe.

Other examples follow the same pattern. A torch becomes the Acacia Torch, an amethyst block becomes the Amethyst Block Bricks, and vanilla froglights become the Ad Astra froglight variants such as the Ad Astra Ochre Froglight. Each wooden trapdoor type also has an airy version, like the Airy Oak Trapdoor.[3]

Tip: Many Chipped blocks include connected textures, powered by Athena. Place a few of them next to each other to see the effect before you commit to a big build.[1]

How do you progress through Chipped?

2 parts

Chipped is a decoration mod, so progression here is not a ladder of power tiers. In this pack it comes down to building the workstations first, then turning plain blocks into decorative variants with stonecutting recipes the pack adds.[3]

The benches

The pack changes the recipes for the Carpenters Table, the Glassblower and the Mason Table. The Alchemy Bench, the Botanist Workbench, the Loom Table and the Tinkering Table keep the mod's own recipes.[3]

The Tinkering Table's recipe id is called mechanist_workbench, so look for that name if you search for it.[3]

Stonecutting

The pack also adds a huge number of stonecutting recipes that turn vanilla blocks into Chipped blocks: 6,968 recipes in total, making 6,960 different results from 274 different ingredients. The ones written out in the recipe dump each take a single input block.[3]

Acacia Planks Mosaic comes straight from acacia planks, and Ancient Iron Block comes from an iron block.[3]

Ancient Iron BlockAdded by the pack

Stonecutting

The same pattern runs through the whole range. For example, Angry Cobblestone, Andesite Bricks and Ancient Diamond Block each come from a single matching vanilla block. So what you can make depends mostly on which source blocks you have, from cheap stone and dirt up to storage blocks and ancient debris.[3]

Tip: One Chipped tag shows up in another mod's recipe. The pack's Evolved Mekanism alloying recipe for the thermal_extra abyssal block accepts either a forge diamond storage block or the chipped:diamond_block tag as its extra input.[4]

How does Chipped work with other mods?

2 parts

Chipped adds seven crafting tables that turn vanilla blocks into their chipped variants. In this pack, the clearest link to other mods is that all seven tables can be crafted into upgrades for Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage.[1][3]

Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage

Both Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage have a Chipped upgrade for every table. You craft each upgrade from the matching Chipped table, so you can pick the table you like and turn it into an upgrade for either mod.[3]

Here is which table each upgrade is based on, shown with the Sophisticated Backpacks item. The Sophisticated Storage versions follow the same pattern, with their own item ids.[3]

The recipes share one shape, so once you know one you know them all. Here is the backpack version for the Mason Table, followed by the storage version.[3]

Tip: The other upgrades have matching recipes for both mods, for example Chipped: Glassblower Upgrade for storage. Check the recipe for the table you want.[3]

Evolved Mekanism

The pack adds an Evolved Mekanism alloying recipe for the Abyssal Block from Thermal Extra. One of its extra inputs takes 2 diamond blocks, and that input accepts items from either the usual diamond storage block tag or the Chipped diamond block tag.[4]

What changed in Chipped between versions?

1 part

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships with Chipped 3.0.7, the Forge 1.20.1 build. The mod has been in the pack since 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so you've likely been using it through several pack updates.[5]

Chipped 3.0.7

This is the version your pack runs, and the mod's own changelog for it is short:[5][6]

  • A bug with crafting was fixed.[6]
  • A JEI feature was added, so Chipped now has JEI support.[6]

The changelog doesn't say more about either change, so I can't tell you exactly which crafting bug was fixed or what the JEI feature shows.[6]
