What is Thermal Processing?
Thermal Processing is part of the pack's mod list. The pack ships version 2.0.4-1.20.1, using the file thermal_processing_v2.0.4-1.20.1.jar.[1]
It has been in the pack for a while: it was first included in version 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it was already there before this release.[1]
I can't tell you more about what the mod does from the material I have for this pack. There is no in-jar guidebook to draw on, and no platform page details are stored for it. I'd rather leave that out than guess, so check the recipes and configs sections of this guide for anything specific.[1]
How do you get started with Thermal Processing?
5 parts
Thermal Processing starts small. The first things you make are a few crafting-table items, and the rest builds on them. Here is the order I'd go in.[2]
Step one: make the Rod Die
Start with the Rod Die. It is a plain crafting recipe, and every press recipe for rods in this mod uses it. Put it in a press with an ingot and you get 2 rods back.[2]

Step two: craft rods by hand
Before you build any machines, check the crafting grid. One ingot crafts into 4 rods, for example Constantan Rod, while the press gives 2 per ingot. The same 4-per-ingot recipe exists for enderium, lumium and signalum.[2]

The pack has changed the Rose Gold Rod crafting recipe, so don't assume it matches the mod's default. Go by the recipe shown here.[2]

Step three: build the Alloy Blender
The Alloy Blender is this mod's machine. Its recipe uses parts from the base Thermal mod, so you need those in hand before you can build it.[2]

Step four: craft the casts
The Plate Cast and Gear Cast are also crafted. The chiller recipes that turn molten metal into rods use a separate rod cast, which has a Thermal id and does not come from this mod.[2]

Step five: melt metal in the crucible
This mod adds molten fluids, such as Molten Constantan, that a crucible makes from ingots and gears. In the mod's own recipes an ingot gives 90 and a gear gives 360. The chiller then needs 45 of the molten fluid for each rod.[2]
The pack adds its own crucible recipes on top. In them a rod melts into 90, where the mod's own rod recipes give 45. Rose gold ingots and gears only appear in the pack's crucible recipes. Sulfur ore gives 180 Molten Sulfur in the pack's recipe, while the mod's original recipe gives 3,000.[2]
How does Thermal Processing work?
4 parts
Thermal Processing plugs into the Thermal machine recipe types: the crucible (melts things into fluid), the chiller (turns fluid and a cast into an item) and the press (stamps items with a die). It also adds its own machine, the Alloy Blender. The sources I have don't describe any multiblock structures for this mod, so everything below is about single machines, fluids and recipes.[2][3]
Melting in the crucible
The pack sets its crucible values through its own data files. Melting a metal ingot gives 90 of the molten fluid and costs 5,000 energy. Melting a gear of the same metal gives 360 and costs 20,000 energy. You can see both for constantan: one ingot makes 90 Molten Constantan, one gear makes 360.[4][5]
The same 90/5,000 and 360/20,000 pattern holds for plenty of other metals in the pack. Aluminum is one example, and it melts into a molten fluid that does not belong to Thermal Processing itself.[6][7]
Ancient debris also has a crucible recipe in the pack: it melts into 180 of molten scrap for 10,000 energy.[8]
Thermal Processing itself defines these molten metal fluids: Molten Constantan, Molten Enderium, Molten Lumium, Molten Rose Gold and Molten Signalum. It also has a molten sulfur fluid. Each fluid has a matching bucket item.[3]
One thing to watch: the rose gold gear melting recipe only loads if the item thermal:rose_gold_gear exists in the pack.[9]

Ways to make rods
Rods are a good example of how the mod's machines connect. The same rod can come from different routes, depending on the metal:[2]
- Crafting table: one ingot makes 4 rods. The recipe dump lists this for constantan, enderium and lumium.[2]
- Press: a Rod Die plus one ingot makes 2 rods. This is listed for constantan, enderium, lumium, rose gold and signalum.[2]
- Chiller: a chiller rod cast plus 45 of the matching molten fluid makes a rod. This is listed for constantan, enderium, lumium, rose gold and signalum.[2]
The rod items are Constantan Rod, Enderium Rod, Lumium Rod, Rose Gold Rod and Signalum Rod.[3]

The Alloy Blender and automation
The Alloy Blender has its own screen with an inventory and a "View Recipes" button. The mod's machine screens also have Auto-Input and Auto-Output toggles. Each one can show as enabled, disabled or unavailable.[3]

How do you progress through Thermal Processing?
5 parts
Thermal Processing in this pack is a metalworking chain. You build the machine and tools, then turn the alloy metals (constantan, rose gold, signalum, lumium and enderium) into molten fluid and rods. The sources here don't spell out a numbered tier ladder, so this section follows the order the recipes lead you through.[2]
Machines and tools first
The Alloy Blender is the mod's own machine, and it is crafted in the crafting grid. Its recipe builds on base Thermal parts, so you need those first.[2]

Making rods
Each alloy has a rod, and you can get it by crafting, pressing or chilling. Crafting gives you 4 rods from an ingot. The press with the Rod Die gives 2 rods from an ingot. The chiller takes 45 of the molten metal plus a rod cast and gives a single rod.[2]
- Constantan Rod, from constantan ingots or Molten Constantan.[2]
- Rose Gold Rod, from rose gold ingots or Molten Rose Gold.[2]
- Signalum Rod, from signalum ingots or Molten Signalum.[2]
- Lumium Rod, from lumium ingots or Molten Lumium.[2]
- Enderium Rod, from enderium ingots or Molten Enderium.[2]
The pack changed the crafting-table recipe for the rose gold rod. The sources here don't say what differs from the mod default, so check the in-pack recipe:[2]

Melting things back down
The crucible turns the alloys back into fluid. In this pack an ingot gives 90, a gear gives 360, and a rod gives 90 of the matching molten metal. The mod's own rod melting recipes give only 45 per rod, so the pack's value is different. Use the pack numbers, not the mod defaults.[2]
Gear melting for other metals
The pack also has its own crucible files for melting gears of many common metals. Aluminum, brass, bronze, cobalt, copper, electrum, gold and invar gears each give 360 of their molten fluid and use 20,000 energy. These fluids come from the common_ore_library namespace rather than from Thermal Processing itself.[7][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]
Iridium, iron, lead, manyullyn, netherite, nickel, osmium and platinum gears follow the same pattern: 360 of the molten fluid for 20,000 energy.[17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]
The constantan, enderium, lumium and signalum gears use the same 360 and 20,000 values, but they give Thermal Processing's own molten fluids.[5][25][26][27]
Ancient debris is also handled by a pack file. The crucible turns it into 180 molten scrap and uses 10,000 energy.[8]
Sulfur
Sulfur gems melt into 250 Molten Sulfur. Sulfur ore is where the pack differs most from the mod: the mod's own recipe gives 3,000, but the pack's recipe gives 180.[2]
How does Thermal Processing work with other mods?
5 parts
Thermal Processing connects to a lot of other mods through its recipes. Its casts, rod die and Molten Sulfur show up in recipes that make or use items from Thermal, Thermal Extra, Mekanism and Common Ore Library. No quests in this pack involve the mod, so everything below comes from recipes.[2]
Casting gears and plates
Chiller recipes take 360 of a molten metal plus a Gear Cast and give you a gear. Most of the molten metals come from Common Ore Library, such as Molten Bronze and Molten Aluminum. The gears are a mix of Thermal ones, like Bronze Gear, and Common Ore Library ones, like Aluminum Gear.[2]
The pack changed the Steel Gear chiller recipe: it uses 360 of Molten Steel and the same Gear Cast to make Steel Gear.[2]
The pack also changed the Thermal Extra chiller recipes. Dragonsteel, Shellite, Soul Infused and Twinite all go through the same casts as Thermal Processing. Gears take 360 of the molten metal with a Gear Cast, and plates take 90 with a Plate Cast. For example, you get Dragonsteel Gear and Dragonsteel Plate from Molten Dragonsteel.[2]
Chiller (thermal)
Recipe id: thermal_extra:machines/chiller/to_gear/molten_dragonsteel
Rods
Rods come in two ways. The press takes a Rod Die and an ingot from a metal tag, and gives 2 rods. That covers metals from other mods, such as Iron Rod and Cobalt Rod. For Constantan, Enderium, Lumium and Signalum, the chiller makes a rod from 45 of the molten metal and a rod cast, and it makes an ingot from 90 with an ingot cast.[2]

Ore processing with Molten Sulfur
The bottler uses 100 of Molten Sulfur on an ore from a shared ore tag. Most ores give 3 dust. The pack changed the osmium and uranium recipes so they give Mekanism's Osmium Dust and Uranium Dust. Ancient debris gives Scrap Dust. Apatite ore gives 18 Apatite, while niter ore and sulfur ore give 9 each.[2]

Alloy Blender
Crafting the Alloy Blender needs Thermal parts: a Machine Frame and an Rf Coil. It also takes a bucket, a nickel gear and a constantan ingot, and those last two can come from any matching tag.[2]

Melting things back down
The pack sets its own crucible recipes so gears can be melted back into fluid. Gears from the gear tags of aluminum, brass, bronze, cobalt, constantan, copper and electrum each give 360 of their molten metal for 20,000 energy.[5][7][10][11][12][13][14]
The same goes for the gear tags of enderium, gold, invar, iridium, iron, lead and lumium: 360 of the molten metal for 20,000 energy each. That matches the 360 the chiller takes to cast a new gear.[2][15][16][17][18][19][25][26]
Ancient debris is also set by the pack: the crucible melts it into 180 molten scrap for 10,000 energy.[8]
