What is All The Arcanist Gear?

All The Arcanist Gear adds spellcaster versions of the endgame metal armor sets, built for Ars Nouveau players. This pack ships version 1.21.1-21.3.2 of the mod.[1][2]

If you cast Ars Nouveau spells and want your armor to help your magic, this mod is for you. The pack's quests describe each set as the matching metal armor but with buffs to Ars Nouveau spells.[2]

The three armor sets

The Allthemodium set has stats similar to normal Allthemodium armor. It also comes with its own set of mana boosts, regeneration and spell power for Ars spells, according to the quest text.[3]

Where it fits in progression

The armor quests sit in Chapter 2: Allthemodium. "Allthemodium Arcanist Armor" quest comes after the Allthemodium Ingot and Allthemodium Smithing Template quests. "Vibranium Arcanist Armor" quest comes after the Vibranium Smithing Template and Vibranium Ingot quests. "Unobtainium Arcanist Armor" quest comes after the Unobtainium Smithing Template and Unobtainium Ingot quests. So you unlock each set as you reach that metal.[3]

The Basic Armor chapter also has "Allthemodium Arcanist Gear" quest, "Vibranium Arcanist Gear" quest and "Unobtainium Arcanist Gear" quest for the same three sets.[2]

The Creative Spell Book

The mod also adds the Creative Spell Book, which has its own quest, "Creative Spellbook" quest, in Chapter 4: Creative after Fully Automated ATM Star. The quest warns that there are several Creative Spellbooks, and this is the one from this mod. You craft it from the Ars Nouveau one, which needs an Archmage Spellbook, an ATM Star and a few extra items. It has the same configs as an Unobtainium Spellbook but gives infinite mana and unlocks all glyphs.[4]

How do you get started with All The Arcanist Gear?

The Arcanist gear is armor and spell books built on the Allthemodium, Vibranium and Unobtainium metals. The pack's quests describe each armor set as the matching metal armor, but with buffs to Ars Nouveau spells. The order is simple: start at the Allthemodium tier and upgrade upward.[2]

Step 1: Allthemodium Arcanist armor

Start here. The quest "Allthemodium Arcanist Armor" quest comes after the Allthemodium Ingot and Allthemodium Smithing Template quests. It says the stats are similar to normal Allthemodium armor, plus its own mana boosts, regen and spell power for Ars spells. Each piece is made at a smithing table, and the pack changed these recipes.[3][5]

Step 2: the Allthemodium Spell Book

The spell books follow the same ladder as the armor. The first one is a smithing upgrade of an Ars Nouveau Archmage Spell Book, and the pack changed this recipe too.[5]

Step 3: climb to Vibranium, then Unobtainium

Once you have the Allthemodium pieces, you do not start over. Vibranium Arcanist pieces are smithing upgrades of the Allthemodium Arcanist pieces, and Unobtainium Arcanist pieces are upgrades of the Vibranium ones. The spell books work the same way, and the pack changed all of these recipes. Here is one piece from each tier as an example, and the other pieces follow the same pattern.[5]

Tip: Every tier is a smithing upgrade of the one before it, so keep your Allthemodium pieces. You need them to make the Vibranium ones.[5]

Optional: threads

The mod also adds threads, which give perks. Vitality grants an extra heart for each level. Flight grants creative flight, but it must be equipped in a slot of at least level 4. Their recipes use the Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus, so they make a good side project once your gear is sorted.[5][6]

Endgame: the Creative Spell Book

The quest "Creative Spellbook" quest sits in the Creative chapter, after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. It warns that there are quite a few Creative Spellbooks, and the one you want is from this mod. It says you craft the Ars Nouveau one first, which needs an Archmage Spellbook, an ATM Star and a few extra items. The quest says it has the same configs as an Unobtainium Spellbook, with infinite mana and all glyphs unlocked.[4]

How does All The Arcanist Gear work?

The sources for this mod show two systems: perk threads and upgrade chains for the armor and spell books. They don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling, so I'm only covering what they explain.[5][6]

Threads and their perks

Each thread grants a perk. Some perks depend on the level of the slot or on a tier, and the details are below.[6]

  • Flight grants creative flight. It must be equipped in a slot of at least level 4.[5][6]
  • Spectral Sight lets you see creatures through walls, in a radius of 8 blocks per level.[5][6]
  • True Sight works by tier. Tier 1 grants Nightvision, Tier 2 grants immunity to Blindness, Tier 3 grants immunity to Darkness, and Tier 4 grants lava vision.[6]
  • Vitality grants an extra heart for each level.[5][6]

Crafting the threads

All four threads are made in the Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus. These are the mod's own recipes, and the pack hasn't changed them. Each one starts from a Blank Thread.[5][6]

Upgrading armor and spell books

The gear is upgraded through smithing table recipes, and the pack changed all of these. The armor starts with the Allthemodium tier. You upgrade a piece of elemental armor (the hat, chest, legs or boots, each from its own tag) using an item from the mod's allthemodium smithing tag plus an allthemodium ingot. That gives you Allthemodium Arcanist Hat, Allthemodium Arcanist Robes, Allthemodium Arcanist Leggings and Allthemodium Arcanist Boots.[5]

The other armor slots follow the same pattern with their own elemental armor tags.

From there the chain continues. Each Allthemodium piece is upgraded to its Vibranium version with a vibranium ingot and an item from the vibranium smithing tag. For example, Allthemodium Arcanist Boots become Vibranium Arcanist Boots. Each Vibranium piece then goes to its Unobtainium version with an unobtainium ingot and an item from the unobtainium smithing tag. For example, Vibranium Arcanist Hat becomes Unobtainium Arcanist Hat. The leggings and robes follow the same steps.[5]

How do you progress through All The Arcanist Gear?

The Arcanist gear follows the same metal ladder as the rest of the pack's Allthemodium gear: Allthemodium first, then Vibranium, then Unobtainium. Each tier comes as a four-piece armor set and as a spell book. Every step is a smithing table upgrade, and the pack changed all of those smithing recipes from the mod's defaults.[2][5]

Tier 1: Allthemodium

The quest for Allthemodium Arcanist Hat, Allthemodium Arcanist Robes, Allthemodium Arcanist Leggings and Allthemodium Arcanist Boots is "Allthemodium Arcanist Armor" quest in the Allthemodium chapter. It unlocks after the Allthemodium Ingot and Allthemodium Smithing Template quests. The quest says the stats are similar to normal Allthemodium armor, but this set has its own mana boosts, regeneration and spell power for Ars spells.[3]

You make each piece from the matching elemental armor piece, an Allthemodium smithing template and an Allthemodium ingot. The Allthemodium Arcanist Hat recipe is shown below, and the other pieces follow the same pattern.[5]

You don't start over for this tier. Each Vibranium piece is an upgrade of the matching Allthemodium Arcanist piece, using a Vibranium smithing template and a Vibranium ingot. The spell book works the same way: the Vibranium Spell Book upgrades from the Allthemodium Spell Book.[5]

Quest tracking

The Basic Armor chapter has one quest per tier, and each asks you to hold the full four-piece set: "Allthemodium Arcanist Gear" quest for Allthemodium, "Vibranium Arcanist Gear" quest for Vibranium and "Unobtainium Arcanist Gear" quest for Unobtainium. Each describes its set as the matching metal armor with buffs to Ars Nouveau spells. In the Allthemodium chapter, by contrast, any single piece of a set completes that tier's quest.[2][3]

Beyond the metal tiers: the Creative Spell Book

The Creative Spell Book has its own quest, "Creative Spellbook" quest, in the Creative chapter, and it comes after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. In "Allthemodium Arcanist Armor" quest, the Allthemodium set is described as having similar stats to normal Allthemodium armor, plus its own mana boosts, regen and spell power for Ars spells. That quest comes after the Allthemodium Ingot and Allthemodium Smithing Template quests. The Vibranium and Unobtainium sets ("Vibranium Arcanist Armor" quest and "Unobtainium Arcanist Armor" quest) come after their own smithing template and ingot quests in the same way.[3]
