What is Apothic Enchanting?
3 parts
Apothic Enchanting gives you much more control over the enchanting table. Instead of just stacking bookshelves, the enchantments you get are decided by three stats: Eterna, Quanta and Arcana. You raise them by building special shelves around the table, and each shelf type pushes the stats in a different direction.[1]
This pack runs version 1.5.2 of the mod.[2]
The three enchanting stats
- Eterna comes from your shelves. For example, Hellshelf and Seashelf each give 3, and an Infused Seashelf gives 5, up to a max of 60.[1]
- Quanta shuffles the enchantment pool so you see more variety. The catch is that more Quanta makes weaker enchantments more common. It starts at 15% and caps at 100%.[1]
- Arcana increases how many enchantments you get and makes rare ones like Looting show up more often. It starts at 0% and caps at 100%.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The quest chapter starts you off with Hellshelves, which bring Quanta, or Seashelves, which bring Arcana. Place 15 of one type around the table and you can infuse another one into its stronger form. From there the quests guide you toward a max enchanting setup built around Crystalline Seashelf. The Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability cancels out the extra chance of weak enchantments that high Quanta brings.[1]
The mod also adds tomes for targeting specific enchantments, such as the armor tomes. It adds the Enchantment Library, which stores enchanted books as points, up to 32,768 points per book. There are also Ender Leads for carrying mobs around, starting with the Flimsy Ender Lead, which only holds animals and breaks after 8 uses.[1]
The ATM Star path
Apothic Enchanting is part of the ATM Star route. The Chapter 3 quest "Infused Dragon's Breath" quest asks for Infused Dragon's Breath, which you get by infusing Dragon's Breath at a shelf setup. It comes after the Apothic Mods quest in that chapter, and the quest hints that the item is needed for other recipes too.[3]
Infused Dragon's Breath also shows up again as a task in the Chapter 4: Creative quests.[4]
How do you get started with Apothic Enchanting?
5 parts
Enchanting in this pack runs on three stats: Eterna sets the max enchanting level, Quanta adds randomness, and Arcana makes rare enchantments more common and gives you more of them. Your first goal is to build shelves that raise those stats, then use Infusion to upgrade them. Here's the order I'd go in.[1][5]
Make your first Hellshelves
Start with Hellshelf. It's your introduction to Quanta, giving 3% Quanta and 3 Eterna each. The quest wants 16 of them: 15 around the Enchantment Table and 1 in your inventory. Make the first 11 and the quest reward covers the last 5 ("Hellshelves" quest).[1]

If the Nether feels too scary, Seashelf is the sea-themed route. It gives 3% Arcana and 3 Eterna, and you need the same 16 ("Seashelves" quest).[1]

Recipe id: apothic_enchanting:seashelf
Infuse one into an Infused Hellshelf
With 15 Hellshelves around the table you have 45 Eterna and 30% Quanta, which is the right amount to infuse the 16th shelf. An Infused Hellshelf gives 5 Eterna (max 60) and 5% Quanta. You'll want 12 of them for the next upgrades ("Infused Hellshelves" quest).[1]
Infusion (apothic_enchanting)
Recipe id: apothic_enchanting:infusion/infused_hellshelf
The pack also adds its own Modern Industrialization Runic Enchanter recipe that makes the same upgrade.[6]

Went the sea route? The same trick works for the Seashelf. With 15 around the table, infuse the last one into an Infused Seashelf, which gives 5 Eterna (max 60) and 5% Arcana ("Infused Seashelf" quest). The next upgrade is the Crystalline Seashelf, which keeps the 5 Eterna and 5% Arcana and adds 3% Quanta. The quest book wants 12 of them ("Crystalline Seashelf" quest).[1]
Control your Quanta
Quanta defaults to 15% and maxes at 100%. The more you have, the more often you get weaker enchantments. The Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability gets rid of that increased chance of worse enchantments ("Negative Enchantments Removal" quest). Budding Amethyst can't be mined, even with Silk Touch, so you'll need a Ritual or Infusion to get one.[1]

Build the Enchantment Library
The Enchantment Library stores enchanted books for you. Shift-click books in, or bring them into the blue slot. Each book is stored as points up to a max of 32,768, and level 1 is 1 point, level 2 is 2, level 3 is 4 and level 4 is 8. The highest level you can take out is the highest level you've put in ("Enchantment Library" quest).[1]

Grab a few Tomes
Tomes let you target specific enchantments. The Tome of Chestplates is your best shot at Protection, and the Tome of the Miners covers Efficiency, Fortune and Silk Touch ("Armor Tomes" quest, "Tool Tomes" quest).[1]
How does Apothic Enchanting work?
7 parts
Apothic Enchanting is built around the enchanting table, not around machines. The mod's tooltips describe a stat system, a set of bookshelf blocks that feed it, and a few storage and extraction tools. Here is how those pieces work.[5]
Raising the level cap
Enchanting tables can now exceed 30 levels, and some enchantments only show up past level 30. The mod has advancements for enchanting at levels 30, 60, 80 and 100, so the high end is meant to be reachable.[5]
The three stats
The enchanting screen shows three stats, and the bookshelves around the table push them up.[5]
- Eterna sets the max enchanting level. The screen shows your current value against the maximum.[5]
- Arcana makes rare enchantments more common and increases the number of enchantments you get.[5]
- Quanta increases the underlying randomness. The screen also says it lessens the negative effects.[5]
Some shelves are tagged as providing Quantic Stability. There are advancements for enchanting at 0%, 50% and 100% Quanta, and for hitting max Eterna and Arcana with 0% Quanta.[5]
Shelves
The shelves form upgrade chains. The basic ones are the Hellshelf, the Beeshelf and the Melonshelf, and the higher tiers are built from the tier below. Here is the Beeshelf recipe as an example.[6]

| any bookshelve | ||
Recipe id: apothic_enchanting:beeshelf
- Nether line: the Infused Hellshelf comes from Infusion Enchanting, and it then upgrades into the Blazing Hellshelf or the Glowing Hellshelf.[5][6]
- Sea line: the Infused Seashelf also comes from Infusion Enchanting. It upgrades into the Crystalline Seashelf, the Heart-Forged Seashelf or the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration.[5][6]
- End line: you need Infused Dragon's Breath to make the Endshelf. The Endshelf then upgrades into the Draconic Endshelf or the Pearlescent Endshelf.[5][6]
- Deep line: the Dormant Deepshelf has to be activated, and it becomes the Deepshelf. That upgrades into the Echoing Deepshelf, which in turn goes into the Echoing Sculkshelf using a Warden Tendril.[5][6]

Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration
You insert enchanted books into the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration to stop those enchantments from appearing in the table. It also gains Eterna and Arcana based on how many books you put in. That makes it a good way to cut out enchantments you don't want.[5][6]

Enchantment Library
The Enchantment Library stores enchantments. Insert an enchanted book to deposit it. Left-click a stored enchantment to take out one level, or shift-click to take the max level available.[5][6]
Tooltips on the library show how many enchantments it stores, the points stored against its capacity, and the max level available. They also warn you when the next level is unavailable.[5]

Tomes
The type tomes each accept one category of enchantments. These are the Tome of Helmets, Tome of Chestplates, Tome of Legplates, Tome of Boots, Tome of the Miners, Tome of the Fishers, Tome of the Archers and Tome of the Others. The Other tome covers miscellaneous enchantments.[5][6]
The Tome of Scrapping extracts half of the enchantments from an item and destroys the item in the process.[5][6]
The mod's text also describes an improved scrap tome that extracts all enchantments and destroys the item. It describes an extraction tome that extracts all enchantments without destroying the item. You can also build an Altar of the Seas, which turns unwanted enchanted items into a new book.[5]
Utility items
The Prismatic Cobweb can be used to remove curses.[5][6]
Ender leads capture and move entities. The Flimsy Ender Lead only handles animals. The full Ender Lead handles most entities, and the Occult Ender Lead can also bind them to Mob Spawners. The pack changed the Flimsy Ender Lead recipe from the mod's version, so use the one below.[5][6]

How do you progress through Apothic Enchanting?
9 parts
Apothic Enchanting progression in this pack is a chain of shelf upgrades. You start with Hellshelves or Seashelves, infuse them, work up to Deepshelves, then finish with Endshelves. Every step raises the stats of your Enchanting Table: Eterna, Quanta and Arcana. The pack's quest chapter walks you through it in order, so you can just follow the quests.[1]
What the three stats do
According to the quests, the enchantments you get from the table are determined by your levels of Eterna, Quanta and Arcana. Quanta helps mix up the enchantment pool, but the more you have, the more common weaker enchantments become. The quest gives Quanta a default of 15% and a max of 100%. Arcana increases how many enchantments you get and makes rare ones more common. The quest gives it a default of 0% and a max of 100%.[1]
Tier 1: Hellshelves or Seashelves
The "Hellshelves" quest quest introduces Hellshelf, which it says gives 3% Quanta and 3 Eterna. The "Seashelves" quest quest introduces Seashelf, which it says gives 3% Arcana and 3 Eterna. The quests want 16 of either: 15 around the Enchanting Table and 1 to infuse. Collect the first 11 and the quest hands you the remaining 5.[1]

Tier 2: Infused shelves
Infusing turns a Hellshelf into an Infused Hellshelf and a Seashelf into an Infused Seashelf. The quests say both give 5 Eterna with a max of 60. They also say the Infused Hellshelf adds 5% Quanta and the Infused Seashelf adds 5% Arcana. With 15 Hellshelves around the table, the quest says you reach 45 Eterna and 30% Quanta, which it calls the right setup to infuse.[1]
The pack also adds a Runic Enchanter recipe that turns a Hellshelf into an Infused Hellshelf.[6]
Tier 3: Crystalline and Glowing shelves
Both routes lead to the same next step. The quest says Crystalline Seashelf keeps the Infused Seashelf's 5 Eterna and 5% Arcana and adds 3% Quanta. It says Glowing Hellshelf keeps the Infused Hellshelf's Eterna and Quanta and adds 3% Arcana. The quests ask for 12 of whichever you pick.[1]

The quest chapter also branches into side shelves. It describes Heart-Forged Seashelf as giving lots of Arcana, helpful for later infusions. It says Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration can remove a chosen enchantment from the pool, and that each Enchanting Clue shelf such as Hellshelf of Sight tells you one enchantment before you use it. About Blazing Hellshelf, the quest says it isn't the cheap option you want for infusions.[1]
The recipe for Hellshelf of Masterful Sight (Hellshelf of Masterful Sight) has been changed by the pack, so use the recipe below rather than any mod default.[6]

Tier 4: Deepshelf
Per the "Deepshelf" quest quest, you craft a Dormant Deepshelf and infuse it into a Deepshelf. The quest says the infusion needs 60 Eterna, 40% Quanta and 40% Arcana, which 12 Crystalline Seashelves or 12 Glowing Hellshelves can provide. The pack also adds a Runic Enchanter recipe for this step.[1][6]

Tier 5: Echoing and Soul-Touched shelves
According to the quests, Echoing Deepshelf gives 15% Arcana and raises max Eterna to 75, and Soul-Touched Deepshelf gives 15% Quanta and also raises max Eterna to 75. Both are crafted from a Deepshelf, with no infusion.[1][6]
The next upgrades are Echoing Sculkshelf and Soul-Touched Sculkshelf. The quests say both give 10 Eterna and raise max Eterna to 80. They list the Echoing version at 10% Quanta and 15% Arcana, and the Soul-Touched version at 15% Quanta and 10% Arcana.[1]

Tier 6: Endshelves
The "Infused Dragon's Breath" quest quest suggests 4 Echoing Sculkshelves, 4 Soul-Touched Sculkshelves and 6 Geode-Encased Bookshelves of Stability. It says that gives 80 Eterna, 25% Quanta and 100% Arcana, the stats it wants for infusing Dragon's Breath into Infused Dragon's Breath. The pack adds a Runic Enchanter recipe for Infused Dragon's Breath too, and a quest in Chapter 4: Creative asks for it via the Runic Enchanter.[1][4][6]
In the quest chain, Endshelf comes right after Infused Dragon's Breath. The quest says its stats currently aren't the best, with only 5 for each, but its max Eterna of 90 is incredible. The recipe is below.[1]

The finished setup
The "Best Enchanting set-up" quest quest lists the final build: 5 Soul-Touched Sculkshelves, 5 Echoing Sculkshelves, a Draconic Endshelf for 100 Eterna and a Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability. It suggests optionally adding Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures, which it says allows enchantments you normally couldn't get, like Mending.[1]
Side tracks: tomes, leads and libraries
- Scrapping tomes: the quest says Tome of Scrapping takes half the enchantments off an item and breaks it. Infusing it gives Tome of Superior Scrapping, which takes every enchantment off and still breaks the item. Infusing that gives Tome of Extraction, which takes all enchantments off and leaves the item alone. The pack adds Runic Enchanter recipes for both upgrades.[1][6]
- Enchantment-pool tomes: armor tomes such as Tome of Chestplates, tool tomes such as Tome of the Miners, weapon tomes such as Tome of Weaponry, and Tome of the Others for the rest.[1]
- Ender Leads: the quest sets aside other mob-catching tools for now and says Flimsy Ender Lead can only hold animals and breaks after 8 uses. Its crafting recipe was changed by the pack. The quest says Ender Lead can hold hostile mobs too and breaks after 64 uses, and that infusing it needs at least 45 Eterna, 25% Quanta and 40% Arcana.[1][6]
- The quest says Occult Ender Lead is unbreakable and can bind mobs to spawners. It says the infusion needs at least 75 Eterna, 85% Quanta and between 60-85% Arcana, plus a Witch in the lead.[1]
- Libraries: the quest says Enchantment Library stores each enchanted book up to 32768 points. Infusing it gives Library of Alexandria, which the quest says holds 1.1 billion points of each book.[1][6]

How does Apothic Enchanting work with other mods?
4 parts
Apothic Enchanting plugs into a lot of the pack's other mods, mostly through recipes the pack adds or changes itself. The common thread is Infused Dragon's Breath, which turns up in portal crafting, the Dragon Soul, a Gate Pearl recipe and the Patrick Star.[6]
Modern Industrialization: the Runic Enchanter
The pack adds a set of recipes for the Runic Enchanter machine that make this mod's items. Each one takes a source fluid plus any experience input, and they cover Infused Dragon's Breath, Deepshelf, Infused Hellshelf and the Tome of Scrapping line. That line runs from Tome of Scrapping to Tome of Superior Scrapping and then Tome of Extraction.[6]

What the quests say
- The "Flimsy Ender Lead" quest quest points out that the pack has other ways to pick up mobs, such as Soul Gem, Mob Imprisonment Tools and Creature Catchers. The Flimsy Ender Lead is the cheapest Ender Lead, can only hold animals and breaks after 8 uses.[1]
- The "Tome of Superior Scrapping" quest quest says you can infuse the Tome of Scrapping using either 3 Echoing Sculkshelves and 15 Bookshelves, or 4 Draconium Blocks.[1]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Apothic Enchanting?
4 parts
Apothic Enchanting has its own quest chapter in the pack, and it also shows up in four other chapters. The main chapter walks you from your first shelves to a fully maxed enchanting setup. The other chapters mostly point you back to it.[1][3][4][7][8]
The shelf ladder in the Apothic Enchanting chapter
Most of this chapter is one long chain. Here is the order it unlocks in.[1]
- Start with "Hellshelves" quest for the Hellshelf, or "Seashelves" quest for the Seashelf. Both unlock after a quest called Infusing. You only collect 11 shelves in each, and the quest hands you the rest.[1]
- Next come "Infused Hellshelves" quest for the Infused Hellshelf and "Infused Seashelf" quest for the Infused Seashelf. You only need to collect 8 of each, and the quests reward the rest.[1]
- Upgrade them with "Glowing Hellshelf" quest for the Glowing Hellshelf and "Crystalline Seashelf" quest for the Crystalline Seashelf.[1]
- "Deepshelf" quest asks for the Deepshelf. It unlocks after both upgrade quests, and it needs 60 Eterna, 40% Quanta and 40% Arcana, which either path can reach.[1]
- The chain then splits into "Echoing Deepshelf" quest for the Echoing Deepshelf and "Soul-Touched Deepshelf" quest for the Soul-Touched Deepshelf. Both raise your max Eterna to 75.[1]
- "Echoing Sculkshelf" quest and "Soul-Touched Sculkshelf" quest ask for the Echoing Sculkshelf and the Soul-Touched Sculkshelf. They raise max Eterna to 80, and the quests tell you that you need a Warden Tendril, so you have to kill the Warden.[1]
- "Infused Dragon's Breath" quest asks for the Infused Dragon's Breath. It unlocks after both Sculkshelf quests and "Negative Enchantments Removal" quest. The quest aims for 80 Eterna, 25% Quanta and 100% Arcana.[1]
- "Endshelves" quest asks for the Endshelf, with a max Eterna of 90. After it, "Draconic Endshelf" quest asks for the Draconic Endshelf (max Eterna 100). "Pearlescent Endshelf" quest is a side branch for the Pearlescent Endshelf, which the quest says isn't what you want for max enchanting.[1]
- Finish with "Best Enchanting set-up" quest, the best set-up. It unlocks after the Draconic Endshelf quest and combines the Soul-Touched and Echoing Sculkshelves, the Draconic Endshelf and the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability. The optional Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures lets you get enchantments like Mending.[1]
Side quests on the shelf path
- "Quanta" quest, "Arcana" quest and "Negative Enchantments Removal" quest explain Quanta, Arcana and how to get rid of weaker enchantments. All three unlock after the Infusing quest.[1]
- "Negative amounts" quest covers the Beeshelf, Stoneshelf and Melonshelf. Each lowers its stat, for Infusions that need exact amounts.[1]
- "Enchanting Clues" quest and "Blazing Hellshelf" quest unlock after the Infused Hellshelves quest. The first asks for the Hellshelf of Sight or Hellshelf of Masterful Sight, where each Enchanting Clue tells you 1 enchantment before you use it. The second covers the Blazing Hellshelf.[1]
- "Remove Enchantments from Pool" quest and "Heart-Forged Seashelf" quest unlock after the Infused Seashelf quest. The first gives you the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration to blacklist an enchantment from the pool. The second covers the Heart-Forged Seashelf, which gives lots of Arcana.[1]
Tomes, leads and libraries
The tome quests unlock after a quest called Tomes. "Tome of Scrapping" quest covers the Tome of Scrapping. "Armor Tomes" quest, "Tool Tomes" quest and "Weapon Tomes" quest each accept any one of the armor, tool or weapon tomes they list, and "ETC. Tomes" quest covers the Tome of the Others.[1]
The scrapping line continues with "Tome of Superior Scrapping" quest for the Tome of Superior Scrapping, then a quest in "Apothic Enchanting" for the Tome of Extraction. Both of those also unlock after a quest called Other Infusion Items.[1]
The leads go in order: "Flimsy Ender Lead" quest for the Flimsy Ender Lead, which holds only animals and breaks after 8 uses, then "Ender Lead" quest for the Ender Lead, which breaks after 64 uses, then "Occult Ender Lead" quest for the unbreakable Occult Ender Lead. "Making a real Trident" quest asks for the Inert Trident.[1]
For storage, "Enchantment Library" quest asks for the Enchantment Library. "Library of Alexandria" quest unlocks after it and asks for the upgrade, the Library of Alexandria.[1]
Other chapters that mention the mod
- Chapter 3: The ATM Star has "Infused Dragon's Breath" quest, which asks for the Infused Dragon's Breath again. It unlocks after a quest called Apothic Mods. It lists a different setup from the main chapter: 2 Soul-Touched Sculkshelves, 3 Heart-Forged Seashelves, 8 normal Bookshelves and 1 Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability.[1][3]
- Chapter 4: Creative has a quest in "Chapter 4: Creative", which unlocks after a quest called Runic Enchanter. It asks for Infused Dragon's Breath and Mending books, both made through the Runic Enchanter.[4]
- Apothic Spawners has a quest in "Apothic Spawners", which asks for the Occult Ender Lead because it can bind mobs to Spawners, and sends you to the Apothic Enchanting chapter to learn how to get it.[7]
- Tips and Tricks has "Disenchanting Methods" quest, a disenchanting overview. It accepts any one of many items, including the Tome of Scrapping, the Tome of Superior Scrapping and the Tome of Extraction, and points you to the Apothic Enchanting chapter for how to infuse them.[8]
