What is Extreme Reactors?
2 parts
Extreme Reactors lets you build nuclear power plants out of multiblock machines. The pack includes version 1.21.1-2.4.28 of the mod. You build Reactors and Turbines from casings, ports and other parts, and the mod simulates energy and fluid flow through them.[1][2][3]
A Reactor can make power directly, or it can vaporize coolant. That vapor then drives a Turbine rotor. You choose between passive and active cooling when you build it.[4][5]
The machines at a glance
- Reactor: the core of the mod, built from parts like the Reactor Controller (Basic) and Reactor Casing (Basic).[5][6]
- Turbine: turns vapor into energy through a rotor assembly, with variants from basic to reinforced.[2]
- Fluidizer: converts solid fuels into fluids and mixes fuels to create new ones.[7]
- Reprocessor: converts waste from the Reactor into new fuel sources or other resources.[8]
- Energizer: stores very large amounts of energy.[9]
Who it's for and where it fits
This mod is for you if you want a serious power source and don't mind building multiblocks. A first Reactor can cover your early-game energy needs. After that, you can move on to more Reactors and Turbines.[3]
The pack has its own Extreme Reactors quest chapter. It starts with "Graphite for Casings" quest, where you smelt Coal or Charcoal into Graphite Ingots. Then you build the smallest passive reactor, a 3x3x3, in "Our First Reactor" quest. Basic parts only reach 5x5x5, so anything bigger needs Reinforced parts.[6]
Once your first reactor is producing waste, the chapter sends you on to "The Fluidizer" quest. The mod also reaches into other chapters. For example, "Blutonium Bee" quest in the Productive Bees chapter is marked "Made in Reprocessor" and asks for a Blutonium Block.[6][10]
Unverified The sources do not show Extreme Reactors on the ATM Star quest path, so don't count on it being required for that goal.
How do you get started with Extreme Reactors?
5 parts
Your first goal in this pack is a small, cheap passive Reactor that makes power straight away. A Reactor is a multiblock machine, so you build it from many different blocks placed next to each other. The Basic parts used here max out at 5x5x5, which is plenty for the early game.[3][11]
Step 1: Make graphite
Everything starts with Graphite Bar. The first quest, "Graphite for Casings" quest, tells you to smelt Coal or Charcoal into it, because graphite and iron are the main materials for Reactor parts. The pack changed the coal recipes so they accept any coal from the coal tag. The blasting version works too.[6][12]
Changed by the pack: it accepts any coal-tagged item.
Step 2: Casings, then the working parts
Casings make up the frame and walls, and you will craft a ton of them. The handbook lists 22 Basic Reactor Casing (Basic) for your first Reactor. Reactor Glass (Basic) is optional and can replace a casing on the walls if you want to see inside.[3][6][13]

Most of the other parts are crafted from a casing. You need an access port for fuel and waste, plus a power tap to get energy out. The power tap recipe was changed by the pack.[6][12]

Step 3: Controller, control rod and fuel rod
The Reactor Controller (Basic) is the heart of the Reactor, and you need exactly one. The pack changed its recipe, and the recipe below asks for any uranium ingot.[6][12]

You also need at least one Reactor Control Rod (Basic) and a Reactor Fuel Rod (Basic). The pack changed the fuel rod recipe too.[6][12]

Step 4: Build and fuel it
The quest "Our First Reactor" quest has you build the smallest passive Reactor, a 3x3x3. Make a casing frame, put the Fuel Rod in the center, and put the Control Rod above it on the top face. Put the Controller in the middle of the front wall and the power tap in the middle of the back wall. The quest suggests two Solid Access Ports, one on the left and one on the right. The handbook's parts list only counts one port.[3][6]
When you place the last block the Reactor forms, and you right-click the Controller to open its interface. If nothing happens, right-click any block you placed to get an error message that explains the problem.[3]
- Right-click a Solid Access Port, set it to Inlet mode and put fuel ingots in the input slot. The Reactor consumes them and turns them into fuel.[3]
- Open the Controller interface and turn the Reactor on.[3]
- Connect an energy pipe or a machine to the Active Forge Power Tap. It sends energy out to the connected block if that block can accept it.[3]
Step 5: Handle the waste
Burning fuel makes waste. Set your other Solid Access Port to output and pipe the waste into storage. The quest "Dealing with Waste" quest points at Cyanite Ingot as that waste. You will need it for turbines and the Reprocessor later.[6]
Once your first Reactor runs, the quest line moves on to the Fluidizer ("The Fluidizer" quest), the Reprocessor ("Reprocessing our Waste" quest) and turbines ("Making Turbines" quest). A bigger Reactor or an actively cooled setup needs Reinforced parts.[6]
How does Extreme Reactors work?
10 parts
Extreme Reactors is built around multiblock machines: you place casing, controllers, ports and internals next to each other, and the machine forms when the layout is valid. This pack has the Reactor and Turbine for power generation, plus the Energizer for storage and the Fluidizer and Reprocessor for fuel handling. This section explains how each one works and how you plug it into your base.[2][5][7][8][9]
Reactor: heat is everything
A Reactor makes energy or vapor from heat. Irradiated fuel heats up, moderators absorb part of the radiation and move heat away from the Fuel Rods toward the Casing, and the Casing Heat is what finally generates energy or vaporizes coolant. Radiation travels in every direction perpendicular to the Fuel Rod pile axis, so the way you lay out the interior matters.[14]
Moderators are blocks or fluids placed inside the Reactor. Some are better than others: air works, but barely, and rarer or pricier materials usually do better. Only valid moderators are allowed inside, and an invalid one stops the multiblock from forming. Turn on Advanced Tooltips (F3 + H) and valid moderators show a special tooltip.[15][16]
Fuel Rods sit in long piles, either all vertical or all horizontal, because mixing orientations is not allowed. The first rod in each pile must touch a Casing block, and the last must be followed by a Control Rod. That is why every Control Rod ends up on the same face of the Reactor. Control Rods absorb neutron radiation, so inserting them slows or stops fuel consumption, heat and waste. You can set the insertion percentage for one rod or for all of them.[17][18]
- Casing heat: high heat raises energy output and coolant conversion.[16]
- Core heat: the heat of the fuel. High heat raises fuel usage, and it is transferred to the casing at a rate set by your interior design.[16]
- Fuel richness: how heavily irradiated the core is. Higher levels reduce fuel burnup.[16]
Passive vs. active cooling
A Reactor works in one of two modes. A passively cooled Reactor generates energy directly into its internal buffer. Any energy that does not fit in that buffer is lost, so make sure something is draining it.[4][16][19]
An actively cooled Reactor needs at least two Fluid Ports: one set to insert coolant and one to extract the vapor. The vapor is piped to a Turbine to spin its rotor and is then condensed back into the coolant. Only valid coolants and vapors are accepted. By default the mod registers water as a coolant and steam as its vapor, but packs can change that.[20][21]
Feeding the Reactor
By default the mod registers four reactants: the fuels Yellorium and Blutonium, and their wastes Cyanite and Magentite. Ejected Cyanite turns into Cyanite Ingots. The Solid Access Port turns solid materials, usually ingots, into reactants. Inlet mode takes fuel and outlet mode outputs waste. Use the Extreme Wrench to toggle the mode, or use the port's GUI. A small material loss is unavoidable with this port.[22][23][24]
The Fuel Injection Port, a Reinforced-variant part, handles fluid reactants instead. It accepts fluid fuel in inlet mode and outputs fluid waste in outlet mode, with no material loss. The Reactor controller can also eject waste automatically as soon as possible or leave it for you to eject manually, from the screen or via Redstone or Computer Port signals.[16][25]
In this pack, Blutonium Ingots and Blocks convert using a plutonium ingot or storage block tag, and the pack changed both of those recipes. Cyanite, Magentite and Graphite conversions are unchanged mod recipes.[12]
Power taps and active vs. passive parts
Energy is converted on the fly by the Power Tap when it leaves the internal buffer, so the tap decides which power system the machine outputs. This mod ships a Forge Energy tap, and each Reactor or Turbine can use only one power system.[26][27][28]
Many parts come in passive and active forms. A passive part does nothing on its own, and the connected block must pull or push. An active part constantly tries to send or extract, and does not let the neighbor insert or extract. Mixing both kinds lets you tune your network. Your first Reactor uses the Reactor Active Forge Energy Power Tap (Basic), which pushes energy into any adjacent block that accepts it. The pack changed its recipe:[3][12][29]

Turbine: vapor to energy
A Turbine makes energy by spinning its Rotor. Vapor is pumped from the Vapor Fluid Tank into the rotor chamber at the flow rate you set in the Controller, and each Rotor Blade captures a little of it. With the Induction Coils engaged, energy depends on rotor speed and the coil blocks' average efficiency and drag.[30]
The Rotor is one Rotor Bearing, Rotor Shaft blocks running the full length to a Housing block on the far side, and Rotor Blades attached to the shaft. Only valid coil blocks may surround the shaft.[31][32][33][34]
- Engaged coils extract energy but drag on the Rotor. Disengaged coils extract nothing, but the Rotor spins faster.[16]
- Blades capture vapor fully only up to their capacity. Efficiency drops if the flow rises past it.[16]
- The Basic Turbine can use up to 1000 mB/t of vapor to spin its rotor.[35]
Automation
The Reactor Redstone Port accepts signals to turn the Reactor on or off, eject waste to Access Ports in outlet mode, or set the insertion of all Control Rods. It can also emit signals based on casing heat, core heat, fuel richness, fuel amount, waste amount and energy stored. You will usually need two or more ports to fully automate a Reactor.[36]
The Turbine Redstone Port can turn the Turbine on or off, engage or disengage the coils, and change the maximum vapor flow rate. It can emit signals for rotor speed, coolant amount, vapor amount and energy stored.[37]
For anything more complex, the Reinforced Computer Port exposes methods to a connected computer, which can query status and control behavior. The only supported computer mod is CC.[38][39]
Energizer: bulk energy storage
The Energizer is a multiblock for storing very large amounts of energy. The minimum size is 3x3x3, built from Energizer Casing and other device parts, with the whole interior filled with Energy Cell blocks.[9][12][40][41]
- Energizer Controller: at least one is required, placed on a vertical face but not on the frame. Its GUI turns the machine on or off and shows stored energy and flow in and out.[12][42]
- Energizerpowerport Fe (passive): inserts and extracts energy, but the connected block has to do the pulling or pushing.[12][43]
- Energizerpowerport Fe Active: pushes energy into any connected Forge Energy-compatible block that accepts it.[12][44]
- Energizerchargingport Fe: charges Forge Energy items from the stored energy. Put the item in the input slot, and it moves to the output slot when full. The eject button moves it immediately.[12][45]
- Energizer Computer Port: lets a computer query the status of the Energizer.[12][46]
The pack changed several Energizer recipes, including the casing and both power ports:[12]

Fluidizer: solids to fluids and mixing
The Fluidizer is a minimum 3x3x3 multiblock that converts solid fuels into fluids and mixes fuels to make new ones. All parts are mandatory except Glass and the Injectors. Glass can replace Casing on the faces but not on the frame.[7][47][48]
The number and type of Injectors set its mode. One Solid Injector turns a solid fuel source, like an ingot, into fluid fuel. Two Solid Injectors convert two solids and mix them into a new fuel. Two Fluid Injectors mix two existing fluid fuels.[49][50][51]
Exactly one Controller is needed, on a vertical face off the frame. Its GUI shows fluid, energy and job status. The Power Port accepts energy from any Forge Energy cable or generator. The Output Port lets you pipe the finished fuel out automatically.[52][53][54]
The pack changed the Fluidizer casing, controller and solid injector recipes, including the casing recipe that every other part is crafted from. Here is the Solid Injector:[12]

Reprocessor: reusing waste
The Reprocessor turns Reactor waste into new fuel sources or other resources. It has a 3x3 footprint and is 7 blocks high, made of Casing and one of each other part. Glass can replace Casing on the vertical faces but not on the frame.[8][55]
- Waste Injector: takes waste by hand through the GUI or from a pipe.[56]
- Fluid Injector: supplies the fluids needed, which can differ by waste type.[57]
- Power Port: accepts any Forge Energy cable or generator.[58]
- Output Port: extract the results by hand or with a pipe.[59]
- Collector: acquires the material from the interior when a job finishes.[60]
- Controller: turns the machine on or off and shows fluids, energy and job status.[61]
Size limits
The Basic Reactor has a maximum external size of 5x5x5, and the Basic Turbine 5x5x10. The Reinforced variants can be larger, with a cap of up to 256 blocks that is set in the mod's config.[11][35][62][63]
Unverified The pack's actual maximum size for Reinforced Reactors and Turbines is unverified, since no config file for this mod was available.
How do you progress through Extreme Reactors?
4 parts
The pack's Extreme Reactors quest chapter starts with graphite and a small passive reactor, then moves on to turning that reactor's waste into Blutonium. From there it branches into turbines with actively cooled reactors, and a Fluidizer route that ends at Insanite.[6]
Tier 1: Basic reactor
The chapter opens with Graphite Bar ("Graphite for Casings" quest). The quest asks you to smelt coal or charcoal to get it, and describes graphite, together with iron, as one of the main materials for making a reactor.[6]
The pack changed the coal smelting and blasting recipes for graphite. In this pack they accept any item in the coal tag, and the coal block recipes work the same way. Charcoal is still the mod's own recipe.[12]
Next the quest asks for Reactor Casing (Basic) and Reactor Glass (Basic) ("Reactor Building Components" quest). It says Basic parts can only be used with other Basic parts. The in-game guide calls Basic the cheap starter variant, with a maximum size of 5x5x5.[6][11]

"Our First Reactor" quest asks you to build the smallest passive reactor, a 3x3x3. As the quest describes it, you use one controller, one fuel rod with a control rod above it, two solid access ports (one for fuel in, one for waste out) and the power tap on the back wall. The quest says its required amounts are exactly what the build needs.[6]
Waste, Cyanite and the Reprocessor
The waste quest ("Dealing with Waste" quest) asks for Cyanite Ingot. It says to set the second solid access port to output and pipe the waste into storage.[6]
The quest describes the Reprocessor as a 3x3x7 multiblock ("Reprocessing our Waste" quest) and says its casing takes a lot of Cyanite ("Building The Frame" quest). The Reprocessor Collector goes in the center of the bottom face and the Reprocessor Waste Injector in the center of the top face ("Importing Waste" quest). The power port, fluid injector and output port can go on any vertical face that isn't part of the frame. For Cyanite, the fluid injector takes water.[6]
According to the quest ("Blutonium" quest), once you have a fully functional Reprocessor you can pump in power, water and Cyanite to create Blutonium Ingot. It says Blutonium can be used as reactor fuel and creates its own waste, Magentite.[6][12]
Reprocessor (bigreactors)
Recipe id: bigreactors:reprocessor/cyanite_to_blutonium
The pack also changed the Blutonium Ingot and Blutonium Block recipes that go through plutonium, including Modern Industrialization ones. So there are routes to Blutonium beyond the Reprocessor.[12]
Turbines and actively cooled reactors
With Cyanite you can make the Turbine Controller (Basic) ("Making Turbines" quest). Turbines take vapor such as Steam from actively cooled reactors. Basic turbine parts cap out at 5x5x10, and bigger turbines need Reinforced parts. A Basic turbine can use up to 1000 mB/t of vapor to spin its rotor.[6][35]
The quest lists the rotor bearing, shaft and blades as the parts that get the turbine spinning ("Creating The Turbine Shaft" quest). It also asks for two fluid ports, one to bring vapor in and one to take exhaust out, plus a power tap to complete the multiblock ("Turbine Ports" quest). The pack changed the bearing recipe.[6][12]

For steam you build a reinforced reactor ("Building An Actively Cooled Reactor" quest). Reinforced reactors can be up to 32x32x48. Taller reactors hold more fuel rods and so burn more, while wider ones are more efficient as long as you don't add more fuel rods ("Expanding Our Reactors" quest). The pack changed the Reinforced casing recipes, including the upgrade from Basic casing.[6][12]

The quest says the Forge Fluid Port, here the Reactor Active Forge Fluid Port (Reinforced), brings coolant such as water into the reactor and also exports the vapor. It describes passive reactors as producing power directly, while actively cooled ones use the heat to vaporize coolant that is sent to a turbine.[6]
Fluidizer and the endgame ingots
The Fluidizer quest ("The Fluidizer" quest) describes a multiblock with a minimum size of 3x3x3. The in-game guide says its mode depends on the injectors: one solid injector turns a solid into a fluid, two solid injectors mix two solids, and two fluid injectors mix two fluids. The pack changed the recipes for the Fluidizer casing, controller and solid injector.[6][12][49]

- Use the Fluidizer to combine Blutonium with Yellorium into Verderium. Burn it in a reactor fitted with the Reactor Fuel Injection Port (Reinforced) to get Rossinite ("Rossinite" quest). You may need to empty the reactor or build a new one for this.[6]
- The quest asks you to make Ludicrite Ingot and Ridiculite Ingot in the Reprocessor ("Ludicrite \& Ridiculite" quest). It notes you might need a Fluidizer for this step. The Fluidizer quest says to convert Magentite to a fluid first, then send it to a Reprocessor with Ludicrite to create Ridiculite.[6]
- The quest says that combining Ridiculite with Rossinite in a Reprocessor creates Inanite Ingot ("Inanite" quest).[6]
- The quest says you can mix Rossinite with Benitoite to create Insanite Ingot ("Insanite" quest). It adds that Benitoite can be obtained with the Ore Laser from Industrial Foregoing.[6]
- The last step is the Insanite Block ("Insanite Block" quest). The quest calls it one of the hardest materials in the mod and the most powerful Turbine Coil available.[6]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Extreme Reactors?
5 parts
In the pack's quest book, the Extreme Reactors chapter is where most of this mod's quests sit. Its quests take you from a first passive reactor through turbines, the Fluidizer and the Reprocessor, and the chapter's last quest asks for the Insanite block. Two smaller chapters, Productive Bees and Building Tips, also touch the mod. Quests are listed below in the order the chapter unlocks them.[6][10][64]
Your first reactor
- "Graphite for Casings" quest asks for Graphite Bar. Its text tells you to smelt Coal or Charcoal for it, and calls graphite, coupled with Iron, one of the main materials for a Reactor.[6]
- "Reactor Building Components" quest asks for Reactor Casing (Basic) and Reactor Glass (Basic). Its text says Casings make up the frame and walls, and that Reactor Glass can replace the walls if you want to see inside.[6]
- Three quests come after the building components. "Interacting with the Reactor" quest asks for the Reactor Active Forge Energy Power Tap (Basic) and the Reactor Solid Access Port (Basic). a quest in "Extreme Reactors" asks for the Reactor Controller (Basic). "Reactor Control Rods" quest asks for the Reactor Control Rod (Basic) and Reactor Fuel Rod (Basic).[6]
- "Our First Reactor" quest is the build quest for the smallest passive reactor, a 3x3x3. Its text says the task amounts are the exact amounts you need to build one.[6]
After your first reactor, three quests follow. The text of "Expanding Our Reactors" quest says Basic parts allow a largest reactor of 5x5x5, and that the biggest reactor with Reinforced parts is 32x32x48. "Dealing with Waste" quest is about extracting the waste your reactor makes, and it asks for Cyanite Ingot. "The Fluidizer" quest starts the Fluidizer line.[6]
Turbines and active cooling
"Making Turbines" quest comes after Dealing with Waste and asks for Turbine Housing (Basic) and Turbine Controller (Basic). Its text says Basic turbine parts give a maximum Turbine size of 5x5x10. Three quests then branch from it: "Turbine Construction" quest (turbine glass), "Turbine Ports" quest (fluid port and power tap) and "Creating The Turbine Shaft" quest (rotor bearing, shaft and blade).[6]
"Building An Actively Cooled Reactor" quest comes after both Making Turbines and Dealing with Waste. It asks for Reactor Casing (Reinforced) and Reactor Active Forge Fluid Port (Reinforced). Its text says that to heat coolants like water into vapor such as Steam, you build a reinforced reactor from Reinforced Reactor Parts.[6]
The Reprocessor
- "Reprocessing our Waste" quest asks for Reprocessor Casing. Its text says the Reprocessor takes a lot of Cyanite, so it suggests stocking up.[6]
- a quest in "Extreme Reactors" asks for the Reprocessor Controller. Its text describes the Reprocessor as a 3x3x7 multiblock.[6]
- Three quests follow: "Importing Waste" quest (collector and waste injector), a quest in "Extreme Reactors" (power port, fluid injector and output port) and "Building The Frame" quest (the frame).[6]
- "Blutonium" quest asks for Blutonium Ingot, and "Ludicrite \& Ridiculite" quest follows with Ludicrite Ingot and Ridiculite Ingot. The quest notes you might need a Fluidizer for that step.[6]
The Fluidizer and the endgame ingots
Three quests branch from "The Fluidizer" quest: "Fluidizer Construction" quest (casing and glass), "Required Ports" quest (output and power ports) and "Operational Modes" quest (solid and fluid injectors, which its text says decide the mode). The text of the construction quest gives the Fluidizer a minimum size of 3x3x3.[6]
"Rossinite" quest comes after all three and asks for Reactor Fuel Injection Port (Reinforced). "Insanite" quest follows with Insanite Ingot, and its text says Benitoite can be obtained with the Ore Laser from Industrial Foregoing. "Inanite" quest comes after both Rossinite and the Ludicrite and Ridiculite quest, and it asks for Inanite Ingot. The last quest in the chapter is "Insanite Block" quest, which asks for Insanite Block.[6]
Other chapters
The Productive Bees chapter has a quest for many of this mod's materials, and they all come after the same earlier quest in that chapter. Each wants a bee item (a comb, spawn egg or cage) plus one mod item. The hints are: "Graphite Bee" quest feeds Graphite Block to a Coal Bee, "Cyanite Bee" quest feeds Cyanite Block to a Radioactive Bee, "Benitoite Bee" quest feeds Benitoite (BaTiSi3O9) to a BlazBee, and "Anglesite Bee" quest feeds Anglesite Ore to a Draconic Bee.[10]
Five more bee quests are marked "Made in Reprocessor": "Blutonium Bee" quest (Blutonium Block), "Magentite Bee" quest (Magentite Block), "Ridiculite Bee" quest (Ridiculite Block), "Ludicrite Bee" quest (Ludicrite Block) and "Inanite Bee" quest (Inanite Block). "Insanite Bee" quest is marked the same way and takes Insanite Block.[10]
The Building Tips chapter has one glass quest, a quest in "Building Tips". It accepts any of several glass types, including Reactor Glass (Basic), Turbine Glass (Reinforced), Fluidizer Glass and Reprocessor Glass. The text points out that glass also makes your base look better.[64]
