What is Silent's Gems?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Silent's Gems is the mod for colorful gemstones and building blocks. It adds 16 gemstones, and you can craft them into gem blocks, bricks, small bricks, polished, chiseled and smooth gem stones, glass and lamps. The pack includes version 5.1.3.[1][2]
If you love building, this one is for you. It gives you a lot of new colors to work with, and the gems can also become tools and armor when Silent Gear is installed. Silent Gear is what you need for gem tools and armor, and Silent Lib is required for the mod itself.[1]
Where the gems come from
The gems are spread across the three vanilla dimensions and overlap a bit, so some Nether and End gems can occasionally turn up in the overworld. The mod lets you configure which gems generate in which dimension and how often, and you can even disable specific gems. I can't confirm from the sources whether the pack changes any of those defaults.[1]
Black Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the Nether and less often than other gems, so you should find plenty while digging for ancient debris. White Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the End, so you'll need to dig around. Both are strong in all stats but much harder to find.[1]
Gem roles
If you use the gems for Silent Gear tools and armor, each gem fits a role. Gems are usually stronger in their role's stats, and every gem still has unique traits.[1]
- Durability: Ruby and Carnelian. They are good for repairs and area-of-effect harvest tools like the hammer and excavator.[1]
- Speed: Topaz, Citrine and Heliodor. They are good for harvest tools.[1]
- Damage: Peridot, Moldavite and Rose Quartz. They are good for weapons like swords and bows.[1]
- Armor: Sapphire, Iolite and Ammolite.[1]
- All-Rounder: Turquoise, Kyanite, Alexandrite and Black/White Diamond. They are above average in most stats.[1]
Handy extras
- Gem Bag: collects and stores gems as you mine them, which frees up your inventory. It doesn't apply to ores.[1]
- Glowrose: a light-emitting flower that spawns naturally. Its light is enough to prevent mob spawns just two blocks away (configurable), and potted glowroses give off much more light than freestanding ones.[1]
- Flower Basket: works like the Gem Bag, but collects flowers you mine.[1]
- Summon Kitty and Summon Puppy: spawn a tamed cat or dog, which you can name in an anvil.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't show where Silent's Gems fits in the pack's progression, and no quests involving it were found. Whether Silent Gear is also in the pack, which you need for gem tools and armor, is not confirmed here either.
How do you get started with Silent's Gems?
4 parts
Silent's Gems adds 16 new gemstones and a big set of building blocks made from them. Here is the order I'd go in: find ore, turn it into gems, then spend those gems on blocks and a few handy extras.[1]
Step one: get some gem ore
This pack gives you extra ways to get ore. It adds Actually Additions mining lens recipes that turn plain stone into Alexandrite Ore, Ammolite Ore, Black Diamond Ore and Carnelian Ore. It also adds Void Miner recipes that output Alexandrite Nether Ore and Alexandrite End Ore with no item inputs.[3]
Step two: smelt the ore into gems
Alexandrite ore goes into a furnace or a blast furnace and comes out as Alexandrite. The other gems have matching smelting and blasting recipes. The pack also adds an Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for alexandrite.[3]
Peridot has a shortcut in this pack: a crafting recipe the pack adds makes 8 peridot per craft.[3]
Crafting Shaped
8 × Peridot Essence
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/silentgems_peridot
Step three: compact and build
Once you have a stack of gems, you can compress them into storage blocks. A block breaks back down into 9 gems whenever you need them.[3]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Alexandrite
Recipe id: silentgems:alexandrite_from_block
The best use of spare gems is decoration. Bricks and glass each give you 12 blocks per craft, and every gem has matching recipes.[3]

Step four: handy extras
Summon Kitty spawns a tamed cat and Summon Puppy spawns a tamed dog. You can name either one in an anvil, just like a spawn egg.[1][4]

Uncooked Fishy Stew is cooked into Fishy Stew by smelting. Uncooked Meaty Stew becomes Meaty Stew the same way, and the pack adds Ender IO alloy smelting versions of both.[3]
The Flower Basket picks up and stores flowers as you mine them, which is handy if you gather glowroses.[1][4]
Crafting Shaped

Glowroses give off light. This pack sets free-standing ones to light level 10 with block.glowrose.normalLight. Potted ones get light level 15 from block.glowrose.pottedLight. Both options accept values from 0 to 15.[1][5]
How does Silent's Gems work?
8 parts
Silent's Gems is mainly a gem and building block mod. The sources here describe no power, fluid or multiblock systems for it, so the interesting part in this pack is how you get the gems: world ore, a few pack-added automation routes, and some utility items that collect things for you.[1][3]
Where gems come from
The mod adds 16 gemstones spread across the Overworld, the Nether and the End, and some Nether and End gems can turn up in the Overworld too. Black Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the Nether, and White Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the End. Both are rarer than the other gems. The mod's page says you can configure it to generate any gem in any dimension, or to disable specific gems.[1]
Ores are turned into gems by cooking them. For example, the mod has blasting recipes that turn any Alexandrite ore or Ammolite ore into the matching gem.[3]
Automating ore
The pack adds two ways to get gem ores without finding them in the world. The first is Actually Additions mining lens recipes, which turn stone into a gem ore. The pack's script defines one for each of 14 Silent's Gems ores and gives each a weight value. Here is the recipe for Alexandrite Ore. The Ammolite Ore recipe has the same shape.[3][6]
Mining Lens (actuallyadditions)
- any stone
Recipe id: actuallyadditions_silentgems:alexandrite_ore
These are the weights the pack's script assigns to the gem ores:[6]
- Peridot, Black Diamond and White Diamond ore: 500 each.[6]
- Carnelian, Moldavite, Turquoise, Alexandrite, Ammolite and Rose Quartz ore: 300 each.[6]
- Topaz, Kyanite and Iolite ore: 250 each.[6]
- Heliodor ore: 200.[6]
- Citrine ore: 150, the lowest value in the list.[6]
The second route is the Void Miner. The recipe list shows 288 Void Miner recipes that produce Silent's Gems items, covering 64 different results, and they have no item inputs. Two of them produce Alexandrite End Ore and are marked as added by the pack.[3]
Miner (voidminers)
Recipe id: minecraft:voidminer_silentgems_alexandrite_end_ore_the_end7
Miner (voidminers)
Recipe id: minecraft:voidminer_silentgems_alexandrite_end_ore_the_end8
Unverified The Void Miner recipes come from the pack script kubejs/server_scripts/mods_recipes/extendedcrafting/voidminer/add_voidminer.js, and the sources here do not show its contents. Anything beyond the recipe list above, such as how the results are chosen, is unverified.
Peridot and storage blocks
The pack adds its own way to get Peridot: one recipe makes 8 of them from Mystical Agriculture peridot essence.[3]
Crafting Shaped
8 × Peridot Essence
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/silentgems_peridot
Turning a Peridot storage block back into gems gives 9 Peridot, and the recipe dump marks that recipe as changed by the pack. It doesn't say what was changed.[3]
Crafting Shapeless
- any peridot storage block
Recipe id: silentgems:peridot_block
Gem blocks work in both directions. Alexandrite is a good example: a block breaks back down into 9 gems.[3]
Building blocks and lamps
Each gem gets a family of decorative blocks: blocks, bricks, small bricks, tiles, polished, chiseled and smooth stone, glass, and lamps. Lamps also come in an inverted version. The Alexandrite bricks and glass recipes each make 12 at a time.[3][4]

Collecting items automatically
The Gem Bag picks up and stores gems, both vanilla and modded, while you mine. It does not collect ores. That keeps your inventory free so you can keep digging.[1][4]
The Flower Basket does the same job for flowers: whenever you mine flowers, they go into the basket.[1][4]
Crafting Shaped
| any gold nugget | any string | any gold nugget |
| any glowrose | ||
Recipe id: silentgems:flower_basket
Glowroses
Glowroses are light-emitting flowers that spawn naturally. You can plant them in vanilla flower pots, and a potted one gives off much more light than a free-standing one. This pack sets the light levels in the mod's common config, and both options accept values from 0 to 15. Changes need a Minecraft restart, and existing glowroses may not update until you break and replace them.[1][5]
- block.glowrose.normalLight is set to 10 for free-standing glowroses.[5]
- block.glowrose.pottedLight is set to 15 for glowroses in flower pots.[5]
Food and pets
Uncooked Fishy Stew and Uncooked Meaty Stew are cooked into Fishy Stew and Meaty Stew. The mod provides a normal smelting recipe for each, and the pack adds an Ender IO alloy smelting version of each.[3][4]

Gems in the pack's endgame
Silent's Gems items also feed into the pack's Extended Crafting endgame recipes. White Diamond and Black Diamond appear in the Endest Pearl and Energy Condenser recipes, and Rose Quartz Block is part of the Neutron Collector recipe. The Ultimate Gem recipe uses 14 Silent's Gems gems, Peridot included.[7][8][9][10]
How do you progress through Silent's Gems?
4 parts
In this pack, Silent's Gems progression comes down to where you get your gem ores and what you do with the gems. Ores smelt into gems in a furnace, and the blasting recipes cover Carnelian, Citrine, Heliodor, Iolite, Alexandrite, Ammolite and Black Diamond. The pack also adds EnderIO alloy smelter recipes for alexandrite, ammolite, black diamond, carnelian and citrine.[3]
Getting ores in this pack
The pack adds Actually Additions Mining Lens recipes that turn stone into Silent's Gems ores. Each one has a weight, and here are the ones for ores in this guide:[3][6]
- Citrine Ore: weight 150[6]
- Heliodor Ore: weight 200[6]
- Iolite Ore: weight 250[6]
- Carnelian Ore, Alexandrite Ore and Ammolite Ore: weight 300 each[6]
- Black Diamond Ore: weight 500[6]
The pack also adds Void Miner recipes: 288 of them make Silent's Gems items, across 64 different results. Among them are Alexandrite Ore for the Overworld, Alexandrite Nether Ore for the Nether and Alexandrite End Ore for the End.[3]
Peridot
Peridot has its own route in this pack. A recipe added by the pack turns Mystical Agriculture's Peridot Essence into 8 Peridot. The pack has also changed the Peridot block recipe, which gives 9 peridot.[3]
Crafting Shaped
8 × Peridot Essence

This is the recipe the pack adds for peridot.
What you can do with the gems
- Bricks: a gem plus stone bricks makes 12 bricks, for example Alexandrite Bricks.[3]
- Glass: a gem plus colorless glass makes 12 glass, for example Alexandrite Glass.[3]
- Lamps: glowstone dust, redstone dust and a gem make a lamp such as Alexandrite Lamp. Combine it with a redstone torch to get the inverted version.[3]
- Storage: each gem packs into a block and unpacks into 9 gems, for example Alexandrite Block.[3]
- Pets: Summon Kitty uses string, any Silent's Gems gem and a stew fish ingredient. Summon Puppy swaps the string for leather.[3]

Endgame use
Black diamond also shows up in the pack's Extended Crafting shaped table recipes for the Endest Pearl and the Energy Condenser, where Black Diamond is one of the ingredients.[7][8]
How does Silent's Gems work with other mods?
4 parts
Silent's Gems is mostly a gem-and-blocks mod, but in this pack its gems show up in a lot of endgame recipes from other mods. Black Diamond and White Diamond are the most common ones, and a few Silent's Gems items also feed into other mods' crafting.[1][3]
Gem ores from the Actually Additions mining lens
The pack adds mining lens recipes from Actually Additions that turn stone into Silent's Gems ores. Each entry has its own weight value. These are the weights the pack sets:[6]
- Citrine Ore: 150[6]
- Heliodor Ore: 200[6]
- Topaz Ore, Kyanite Ore and Iolite Ore: 250 each[6]
- Carnelian Ore, Moldavite Ore, Turquoise Ore, Alexandrite Ore, Ammolite Ore and Rose Quartz Ore: 300 each[6]
- Peridot Ore, Black Diamond Ore and White Diamond Ore: 500 each[6]
The same list also covers Thermal's sulfur and cinnabar ores and Actually Additions' black quartz ore, so the lens handles gems from several mods.[6]
Endgame table recipes
Several big crafting table recipes in this pack use Silent's Gems items. White Diamond and Black Diamond are both needed for the Endest Pearl, and the pack has changed that recipe. It is a 9 by 9 pattern.[3][7]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)

Both diamonds are also in the Energy Condenser from ProjectE, a recipe the pack adds. It uses the same 9 by 9 table size.[3][8]

The Neutronium Collector, another recipe the pack changes, uses a Rose Quartz Block as one of its ingredients.[3]

The Ultimate Gem
The pack adds a shapeless table recipe for the Ultimate Gem that takes gems from many mods and makes 12 at once. Silent's Gems contributes a long list of gems, from Alexandrite to White Diamond, including Peridot, Rose Quartz and Moldavite. The recipe lists Ruby and Sapphire from Thermal.[3]

Which Silent's Gems config options matter?
The config file this pack ships for Silent's Gems, config/silentgems-common.toml, has two options that matter for your builds. Both are about how bright glowroses are.[5]
- block.glowrose.normalLight is set to 10 in this pack. It controls the light level of free-standing glowroses, and it accepts values from 0 to 15.[5]
- block.glowrose.pottedLight is set to 15 in this pack. It controls the light level of glowroses planted in vanilla flower pots, and it also accepts values from 0 to 15.[5]
In this pack, a glowrose in a flower pot is at the top of the 0 to 15 range, and one growing freely is at 10. If you want a bright, compact light source, the pot is the way to go.[5]
Unverified The sources I have don't show the mod's default values for these two options, so I can't say whether the pack changed them.
The mod page also says gem generation is configurable. You can generate any gem in any dimension, set how often it appears, or stop specific gems from generating at all. The sources I have don't name the exact options for this.[1]
