Silent's Gems is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 5.1.3. Adds many colorful gemstones and building blocks. Compatible with Silent Gear. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Silent's Gems?

3 parts

Silent's Gems is the mod for colorful gemstones and building blocks. It adds 16 gemstones, and you can craft them into gem blocks, bricks, small bricks, polished, chiseled and smooth gem stones, glass and lamps. The pack includes version 5.1.3.[1][2]

If you love building, this one is for you. It gives you a lot of new colors to work with, and the gems can also become tools and armor when Silent Gear is installed. Silent Gear is what you need for gem tools and armor, and Silent Lib is required for the mod itself.[1]

Where the gems come from

The gems are spread across the three vanilla dimensions and overlap a bit, so some Nether and End gems can occasionally turn up in the overworld. The mod lets you configure which gems generate in which dimension and how often, and you can even disable specific gems. I can't confirm from the sources whether the pack changes any of those defaults.[1]

Black Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the Nether and less often than other gems, so you should find plenty while digging for ancient debris. White Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the End, so you'll need to dig around. Both are strong in all stats but much harder to find.[1]

Gem roles

If you use the gems for Silent Gear tools and armor, each gem fits a role. Gems are usually stronger in their role's stats, and every gem still has unique traits.[1]

  • Durability: Ruby and Carnelian. They are good for repairs and area-of-effect harvest tools like the hammer and excavator.[1]
  • Speed: Topaz, Citrine and Heliodor. They are good for harvest tools.[1]
  • Damage: Peridot, Moldavite and Rose Quartz. They are good for weapons like swords and bows.[1]
  • Armor: Sapphire, Iolite and Ammolite.[1]
  • All-Rounder: Turquoise, Kyanite, Alexandrite and Black/White Diamond. They are above average in most stats.[1]

Handy extras

  • Gem Bag: collects and stores gems as you mine them, which frees up your inventory. It doesn't apply to ores.[1]
  • Glowrose: a light-emitting flower that spawns naturally. Its light is enough to prevent mob spawns just two blocks away (configurable), and potted glowroses give off much more light than freestanding ones.[1]
  • Flower Basket: works like the Gem Bag, but collects flowers you mine.[1]
  • Summon Kitty and Summon Puppy: spawn a tamed cat or dog, which you can name in an anvil.[1]
Tip: A hammer and prospector hammer from Silent Gear make hunting for the rarer diamond variants much easier.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Silent's Gems fits in the pack's progression, and no quests involving it were found. Whether Silent Gear is also in the pack, which you need for gem tools and armor, is not confirmed here either.

How do you get started with Silent's Gems?

4 parts

Silent's Gems adds 16 gemstones and a big set of colorful building blocks made from them. Silent Lib is required for the mod to run. Silent Gear is only needed if you want gem tools and armor, so this section sticks to the gems and blocks.[1]

First, find some gems

Everything starts with mining gem ore. The 16 gems are split across the three vanilla dimensions, and some Nether and End gems can occasionally show up in the Overworld. The mod page says the generation can be configured, but the page describes the mod's own behavior and does not tell you what this pack uses.[1]

The two diamond variants are the hard ones. Black Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the Nether and less often than other gems, so you should find plenty while digging for ancient debris. White Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the End, so you will need to dig around. A hammer and a prospector hammer from Silent Gear make the hunt much easier.[1]

Gem Bags collect gems as you mine them (not the ores themselves), which frees up your inventory for more mining.[1]

Next, make your first building blocks

Once you have a few gems, compress them into blocks for storage and building. Alexandrite is the example here, and every other gem I checked in the recipe list follows the same pattern. Blocks can be turned back into gems, so nothing is locked in.[3]

Glass and lamps are the next quick wins. Each gem has its own glass recipe and lamp recipe, and each lamp has an inverted version too.[3]

For more variety, each gem also has bricks, small bricks, tiles and a chiseled version, all crafted from the gem plus a vanilla block.[3]

Then, light your base with glowroses

Glowroses are light-emitting flowers that spawn naturally in the world. According to the mod's description, their light is enough to prevent mob spawns just two blocks away, and that distance is configurable. Planting one in a vanilla flower pot gives much more light than a freestanding one. Sparkling Bone Meal grows glowroses when used on grass.[1][4]

Later, aim for teleporters

Each gem has a teleporter recipe that uses a Block of Chaos Essence, so treat teleporters as a later goal. You can compress Chaos Essence into that block with the first recipe below, and the second shows an Alexandrite teleporter.[3]

How does Silent's Gems work?

5 parts

Here's the honest picture first: Silent's Gems isn't a machine mod. It has no power network, no fluid handling and no multiblocks in anything I can confirm. The mod adds colorful gemstones and the building blocks you make from them, and it hooks into Silent Gear for tools and armor. So this section covers how the gems and their items actually behave.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't describe any machines, multiblock structures, power or fluid handling, or automation for Silent's Gems in this pack. Don't assume any exist.

Where gems come from

The mod adds 16 gemstones, split across the three vanilla dimensions with some overlap. Some Nether and End gems can occasionally turn up in the Overworld. The mod page says you can configure which gems generate in which dimension, how often, or disable specific gems entirely. The pack's config files weren't available to me, so I can't tell you whether this pack changes any of that.[1]

  • Black Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the Nether and less often than other gems. You should find plenty while digging for ancient debris.[1]
  • White Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the End, so expect to dig around for them.[1]
  • A hammer and a prospector hammer from Silent Gear make hunting the rare gems much easier.[1]

Gem roles

When you use gems for Silent Gear tools and armor, each gem fits a role and is usually stronger in that role's stats. Every gem still has its own unique traits. The roles are Durability (Ruby, Carnelian), Speed (Topaz, Citrine, Heliodor), Damage (Peridot, Moldavite, Rose Quartz), Armor (Sapphire, Iolite, Ammolite) and All-Rounder (Turquoise, Kyanite, Alexandrite, Black and White Diamond). The mod page describes this using the default ore configs.[1]

Some example traits from the mod's descriptions: Hasty increases mining speed, Power increases attack damage, Leaping gives jump boost and slow falling, and Cloaking grants invisibility at the cost of hunger.[4]

Collecting and handling items

The Gem Bag collects and stores gems as you mine them, which frees up your inventory. It doesn't pick up ores. The Flower Basket works the same way, but it collects flowers you mine.[1]

Summon Kitty spawns a tamed cat and Summon Puppy spawns a tamed dog. You can name either one in an anvil, just like spawn eggs.[1]

Glowroses

Glowroses are light-emitting flowers that spawn naturally in the world. Their light is enough to stop mob spawns just two blocks away, and the mod page says this is configurable. Plant them in vanilla flower pots, because a potted glowrose gives off much more light than a freestanding one. Sparkling Bone Meal grows glowroses when used on grass.[1][4]

Building blocks, lamps and teleporters

Each gem has its own set of blocks in the pack, including gem blocks, bricks, small bricks, tiles, glass and lamps. Alexandrite is a good example. Ammolite, Aquamarine and Black Diamond have matching recipes for the same block types. I can only see part of the recipe list, so check the recipe viewer for the other gems.[3]

Compressing gems into a block and breaking them back down both work through simple crafting recipes.[3]

How do you progress through Silent's Gems?

3 parts

The recipes the sources confirm for Silent's Gems in this pack are about gems, storage blocks, building blocks and teleporters. The gems I can see follow the same crafting pattern, so once you learn it for one gem you know it for the rest.[3]

Gem blocks and decoration

Teleporters

The gem teleporters are the most involved recipes the sources confirm. They are crafted using a Block of Chaos Essence, so you need to make that block first from Chaos Essence.[3]

Each teleporter can then be upgraded into a redstone version, as with Garnet Redstone Teleporter. This is a shapeless craft built on the matching teleporter.[3]

Quest path

Unverified The sources here show no quests involving this mod and do not place it on the quest path, so there is no quest-by-quest progression to give you. They also include no in-jar guidebook text, so any tier ordering beyond the recipes above is unconfirmed.

How does Silent's Gems work with other mods?

2 parts

Silent's Gems connects to other mods in this pack through recipes. The two links the pack's recipes confirm are Create crushing and a set of blasting recipes that turn Neo Vitae gem dusts into Silent's Gems gems.[3]

Create: crushing gem ores

The pack changed the Create crushing recipes for the Silent's Gems ores, and they cover the overworld, deepslate, nether and end variants. Crushing an ore gives you its gem, a Nugget of Experience, and a stone that matches where the ore lives. Overworld ores give Cobblestone, deepslate ores give Cobbled Deepslate, nether ores give Netherrack, and end ores give End Stone.[3]

Here is one example, the ruby ore. The other gem ores follow the same pattern, each with its own gem as the output.[3]

Crushing (create)

Recipe id: create:crushing/compat/silentgems/ruby_ore

Ruby ore is just one example, and the other gem ores have matching crushing recipes in the pack.

Tip: The rare gems are covered too: black diamond and white diamond ores, in every variant, have crushing recipes that give the matching gem, so a Create setup can process them like any other gem ore.[3]

Neo Vitae: dusts into gems

The pack adds blasting recipes that turn Neo Vitae gem dusts into the matching Silent's Gems gem. You can blast Alexandrite Dust, Ammolite Dust, Aquamarine Dust, Black Diamond Dust, Carnelian Dust, Citrine Dust, Garnet Dust and Heliodor Dust. They produce Alexandrite, Ammolite, Aquamarine, Black Diamond, Carnelian, Citrine, Garnet and Heliodor in that order.[3]

Alexandrite dust is the example here. The other dusts listed above use the same kind of blasting recipe, added by the pack.

What changed in Silent's Gems between versions?

Silent's Gems has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 3.0, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 5.1.3. Here's every update the pack changelogs record for it, from oldest to newest.[2][5]

  • All the Mods 10 3.0: Silent's Gems 5.0.3 was added to the pack.[5]
  • All the Mods 10 4.0: updated from 5.0.3 to 5.1.0.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 4.1: updated from 5.1.0 to 5.1.1.[7]
  • All the Mods 10 4.5: updated from 5.1.1 to 5.1.2.[8]
  • All the Mods 10 4.11: updated from 5.1.2 to 5.1.2.1.[9]
  • All the Mods 10 5.5: updated from 5.1.2.1 to 5.1.3, the version still in the pack in 8.1.[2][10]

The jar in 8.1 is silentgems-1.21.1-neoforge-5.1.3.jar, so you're on the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record the version bumps. What actually changed inside each Silent's Gems update (new gems, tools, recipes or balance tweaks) isn't confirmed here, because no mod changelogs are available for the shipped versions. Check the mod's own release notes before assuming a specific feature arrived in a particular version.
