What is Silent's Gems?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Silent's Gems is the mod for colorful gemstones and building blocks. It adds 16 gemstones, and you can craft them into gem blocks, bricks, small bricks, polished, chiseled and smooth gem stones, glass and lamps. The pack includes version 5.1.3.[1][2]

If you love building, this one is for you. It gives you a lot of new colors to work with, and the gems can also become tools and armor when Silent Gear is installed. Silent Gear is what you need for gem tools and armor, and Silent Lib is required for the mod itself.[1]

Where the gems come from

The gems are spread across the three vanilla dimensions and overlap a bit, so some Nether and End gems can occasionally turn up in the overworld. The mod lets you configure which gems generate in which dimension and how often, and you can even disable specific gems. I can't confirm from the sources whether the pack changes any of those defaults.[1]

Black Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the Nether and less often than other gems, so you should find plenty while digging for ancient debris. White Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the End, so you'll need to dig around. Both are strong in all stats but much harder to find.[1]

Gem roles

If you use the gems for Silent Gear tools and armor, each gem fits a role. Gems are usually stronger in their role's stats, and every gem still has unique traits.[1]

  • Durability: Ruby and Carnelian. They are good for repairs and area-of-effect harvest tools like the hammer and excavator.[1]
  • Speed: Topaz, Citrine and Heliodor. They are good for harvest tools.[1]
  • Damage: Peridot, Moldavite and Rose Quartz. They are good for weapons like swords and bows.[1]
  • Armor: Sapphire, Iolite and Ammolite.[1]
  • All-Rounder: Turquoise, Kyanite, Alexandrite and Black/White Diamond. They are above average in most stats.[1]

Handy extras

  • Gem Bag: collects and stores gems as you mine them, which frees up your inventory. It doesn't apply to ores.[1]
  • Glowrose: a light-emitting flower that spawns naturally. Its light is enough to prevent mob spawns just two blocks away (configurable), and potted glowroses give off much more light than freestanding ones.[1]
  • Flower Basket: works like the Gem Bag, but collects flowers you mine.[1]
  • Summon Kitty and Summon Puppy: spawn a tamed cat or dog, which you can name in an anvil.[1]
Tip: A hammer and prospector hammer from Silent Gear make hunting for the rarer diamond variants much easier.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Silent's Gems fits in the pack's progression, and no quests involving it were found. Whether Silent Gear is also in the pack, which you need for gem tools and armor, is not confirmed here either.

How do you get started with Silent's Gems?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Silent's Gems adds 16 gemstones and a big set of building blocks made from them. The first job is finding gems, then turning them into blocks and decorations. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step by step

  1. Go mining for gems. They are split across the three vanilla dimensions and overlap a bit, so some Nether and End gems can turn up in the Overworld. There is one gem ore block that matches all three dimensions.[1]
  2. Grab a Gem Bag if you can. It collects and stores gems as you mine them (not from ores), which frees up inventory space for more mining.[1]
  3. Craft gem blocks. Each gem has its own block recipe in the pack.[3]
  4. Make the decorative blocks: glass, lamps and chiseled variants. Each gem has its own recipe for each of these.[1][3]

Recipes to start with

I'm using garnet as the example. Every gem in the list has its own matching recipes, so swap in whichever gem you found. First, the gem block: Garnet Block.[3]

Good to know early

Tip: Black Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the Nether, so you should find plenty while digging for ancient debris. White Diamonds spawn somewhat low in the End. Both are much harder to find than other gems, and a hammer and a prospector hammer from Silent Gear make the search much easier.[1]

Glowroses are light-emitting flowers that spawn naturally in the world, and their light is enough to prevent mob spawns just two blocks away. You can plant them in vanilla flower pots, and potted glowroses give off much more light than freestanding ones. Sparkling bone meal grows glowroses when you use it on grass.[1][4]

If you want tools or armor from your gems, you need Silent Gear. The mod's own page says it is required for that, and Silent Lib must be installed as well.[1]

How does Silent's Gems work?

7 parts

Silent's Gems is mostly about gems, building blocks and a few handy storage items. The sources for this mod cover those pieces and the world generation, so that is what this section walks through.[1][4]

Gem Bag and Flower Basket

The Gem Bag collects and stores gems while you mine them, which frees up your inventory so you can keep digging. It does not pick up ores. The Flower Basket works the same way, but it collects flowers whenever you mine them.[1][4]

Glowroses

Glowroses are light-emitting flowers that spawn naturally in the world. Their light is enough to stop mob spawns just two blocks away, and the mod page says that distance is configurable. You can plant them in vanilla flower pots, and a potted glowrose gives off much more light than a freestanding one.[1][4]

Sparkling Bone Meal grows glowroses when you use it on grass.[4]

Teleporters

The mod has a gem Teleporter block, a Redstone Teleporter variant, a Teleporter Anchor and a Teleporter Linker item. The sources here only give their names, so how linking and anchoring work is not covered. You can see the in-pack recipe for the Alexandrite Redstone Teleporter below.[4]

Building blocks and crafting

Each gem can be compressed into a storage block and turned back into 9 gems. Alexandrite shows how it works for the whole set: the first recipe below makes the block, and the second turns the block back into gems.[5]

The same gem also makes bricks and glass, 12 at a time, plus lamps. The block names in the mod's language file show that every gem has bricks, small bricks, tiles, polished, smooth and chiseled stone, glass, a lamp and an inverted lamp.[4][5]

Other ways to get gems in this pack

The pack adds smelting and blasting recipes that produce Alexandrite, Ammolite, Aquamarine and Black Diamond. Their recipe ids sit in the Neo Vitae namespace and are named after dust, but the recipe dump does not list their inputs.[5]

Productive Metalworks also has casting recipes for the gems and the storage blocks. For example, there is a gem casting recipe and a block casting recipe for alexandrite.[5]

      Stews

Fishy Stew and Meaty Stew each have an uncooked version. Each cooked stew can be made by campfire cooking or by smoking.[4][5]

      Fishy StewMod recipe

      Campfire Cooking

        Recipe id: silentgems:campfire_cooking/fishy_stew

        World generation

The mod's own data files add its features at the underground ores step in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. In each dimension, every gem has both an ore feature and a glowrose feature. The Overworld list also adds silver ore and chaos ore.[6][7][8]

Ore features target both stone and deepslate, so you get the deepslate version of a gem ore when it generates in deepslate. These are the vein settings in the mod's data files for the features the sources show:[9][10][11][12][13][14]

        • Alexandrite: vein size 6, discard chance on air exposure 0.8.[9]
        • Heliodor: vein size 6, discard chance on air exposure 0.8.[13]
        • Iolite: vein size 6, discard chance on air exposure 0.8.[14]
        • Aquamarine: vein size 8, discard chance on air exposure 0.2.[10]
        • Garnet: vein size 8, discard chance on air exposure 0.2.[12]
        • Chaos ore: vein size 12, discard chance on air exposure 0.5.[11]

Unverified The Silent's Gems project page says you can configure which gems generate in which dimension and how often. The sources here include no config files for this mod, so the pack's actual generation settings are not shown. Several gems, such as ammolite and black diamond, list a vein size of 0 in the mod's data files, and the sources do not explain what that means in practice.

How do you progress through Silent's Gems?

        3 parts

Here is the honest picture for Silent's Gems in this pack: the sources I have cover where the gems come from and what you can build with them, not a tier-by-tier ladder. So this section follows the gem supply routes and the recipes the pack actually uses.[5]

        Getting gems

The ore route is the classic one. Alexandrite ore drops Alexandrite and the drop count is boosted by Fortune. Mine it with Silk Touch and you get the ore block itself instead.[15]

The pack also adds its own furnace routes. Smelting and blasting recipes (added by the pack, with ids under Neo Vitae) turn out gems such as Alexandrite, Ammolite, Aquamarine, Black Diamond and Carnelian, and the same pattern repeats for the other gems.[5]

          Recipe id: neovitae:materials/smelting_alexandrite_dust

One of the pack-added smelting recipes that makes a Silent's Gems gem.

If you run Productive Metalworks, casting is a third route. The dump lists 21 item casting recipes that make Silent's Gems items and 21 block casting recipes for storage blocks, including Peridot and Peridot Block.[5]

            Storage blocks

Every gem has a storage block, like Ammolite Block, and the block breaks back down into 9 gems in a shapeless craft.[5]

What changed in Silent's Gems between versions?

All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta ships Silent's Gems 5.1.4, using the file silentgems-26.1.2-neoforge-5.1.4.jar. The mod has been in the pack since 0.0.23 or earlier.[16]

The mod's own changelog for 5.1.4 lists these releases, newest first:[17]

            • 26.1.2-5.1.4 (2026-05-17): ported to 26.1.2 and Silent Gear 4.2+. This matches the 26.1.2 build named in the pack's jar file.[16][17]
            • 26.1-5.1.4 (2026-03-28): ported to NeoForge 26.1. This release also made glowrose patches a little less common.[17]

Unverified The sources here show no pack changelog entries for this mod, so how it changed between individual pack releases is unverified. The pack's own changelogs are where that would be recorded.
