RFTools Base is a mod in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2, where it is version 1.20-5.0.7. RFTools Base: base mod for all McJty tech mods (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is RFTools Base?

2 parts

RFTools Base is the base mod for all of McJty's tech mods. That family includes RFTools Dimensions, RFTools Control, RFTools Power, Deep Resonance and XNet. It needs McJtyLib to run. This pack ships version 1.20-5.0.7.[1][2]

What it gives you

  • Dimensional Shard ore generation: a small amount in the Overworld, with more in other dimensions.[1]
  • The machine infuser.[1]
  • Base crafting materials for the other tech mods.[1]
  • The smart wrench.[1]
  • A security and owner system.[1]

Shards and crafting materials

Dimensional Shard Ore is found underground in small clusters. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shards when broken. Those shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[3]

Machine Frames are the housing every machine needs. They do nothing on their own, but they show up everywhere as a crafting ingredient. Machine Bases work the same way, except the machines they produce are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone output or input.[4][5]

Tip: Machines made from a Machine Base face the direction of the block edge your cursor is closest to when you place them. If you don't like the result, right-click with the wrench in Wrench Mode to change the direction.[4]

Many machines in the RFTools tech mods also accept modules. In most cases you just right-click the machine with the module to insert it.[6]

The in-game guide book registered under this mod also holds pages for the wider RFTools family, such as Builder, Control, Dimensions, Power, Storage, Utility and XNet.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]

How do you get started with RFTools Base?

6 parts

RFTools Base is the foundation for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. On its own it gives you crafting materials, a wrench, and the machine that upgrades other machines. This is the order I'd make things in.[1][7]

First: the Technology Guide

Start with the Technology Guide. It is the manual for all RFTools based technology mods, so it is worth having in your inventory before you build anything else.[15]

Second: the Smart Wrench

Next, make the Smart Wrench. Right-click on air to change its mode. Used as a normal wrench, you sneak-right-click to pick a block up and right-click to rotate it. Used as a block selector, you sneak-right-click to select a master block and right-click to associate other blocks with it.[15]

Third: Machine Frames and Machine Bases

The Machine Frame is the housing for machines and devices. It does nothing on its own, but it is a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. The pack changed its recipe, so go by this one.[5][16]

Fourth: Dimensional Shards

Dimensional Shard is the key resource of this mod. It goes into several of the more complicated recipes and can also be used to infuse machines. Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune affects its drops.[3]

The pack changed the crafting recipe for the shard, so you can make it by hand:[16]

The pack also adds a sieve recipe that gives a Dimensional Shard from Dust, and it lets you turn certain RFTools Dimensions blocks into shards. For example, a Dimensional Blank Block gives 4 of them.[16]

Fifth: the Machine Infuser

With shards in hand, build the Machine Infuser. It improves most other RFTools machines, and it needs dimensional shards to do so. The infusing bonus is reduced power consumption. The pack changed this recipe as well.[15][16]

Tip: Infusing is worth doing on machines you run a lot. The Crafter, for example, uses less power once it is infused.[15][17]

What to make next

  • Infused Diamond and Infused Enderpearl are both made from a shard plus another material. The pack changed the diamond recipe.[16]
  • Information Screen: place it on a power cell to display information about that cell. It can also show power information for any block that supports RF/FE.[15]
  • Tablet (empty): it references remote GUIs and information. The pack changed its recipe.[15][16]
  • Filter Module: it makes a block accept only certain items, and is used in XNet, storage, the Builder and the Crafter.[15]
  • Crafting Card: it stores the ingredients and the end result of a recipe.[15]

How does RFTools Base work?

6 parts

RFTools Base is the base mod for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. It brings the Dimensional Shard oregen, the Machine Infuser, base crafting materials for the other tech mods, the Smart Wrench and a security and owner system. Most of the mechanics below are about how those pieces change the machines from the other RFTools mods.[1][7]

Machine Frames and Machine Bases

A Machine Frame is the housing for machines and devices. It does nothing on its own and is a very common crafting ingredient. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's own.[5][16]

A Machine Base is the same idea, but the machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. The pack also changed this recipe.[4][16]

When you place one of these machines, its facing depends on which edge of the block your cursor is closest to. Imagine an X on the face you are placing against: the output faces the quarter of the X you are looking at, and the input comes from the opposite side. That makes them handy in cramped spaces and on walls. If you don't like the facing, right-click with the Smart Wrench in Wrench Mode to change it.[4]

Infusing machines

The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to improve many other machines. For most of them, infusing reduces their power requirements, and infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power. Some machines get extra benefits, and which ones are listed depends on the other RFTools mods you have installed. The pack changed the Infuser's recipe.[15][16][18]

The in-game guide lists these extra infusion benefits:[18]

  • Matter Transmitter: more speed. Screen Controller: more range. Crafter: lower power use.[17][18]
  • Matter Beamer: more speed and fewer items needed.[18]
  • Builder: more speed. Shield Projector: more damage.[18]
  • Dimensional Cell: cheaper long-distance RF extraction and higher RF/t output.[18]
  • Blazing Generator: more power generated. Blazing Agitator: better Blazing Rod quality.[18]
  • Researcher and Dimension Builder: more speed.[18]

Where Dimensional Shards come from

Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, with a small amount in the Overworld and more elsewhere. It is affected by Fortune and drops Dimensional Shard. Shards go into several more complicated recipes as well as the Infuser.[1][3]

The pack changed the shard's own crafting recipe and added alternatives. Several RFTools Dimensions blocks can be crafted into shards, and the pack also adds Exdeorum sieve recipes that turn Dust into shards.[16]

Added by the pack: one Dimensional Blank Block makes 4 shards.

In the pack's sieve script, sifting Dust gives shards from the diamond mesh upwards. The chance per sift is 0.1 with the diamond mesh, 0.2 with the netherite mesh, 0.25 with the allthemodium mesh and 0.35 with the vibranium mesh.[19]

Infused materials

Infused Diamond is made from a shard and a diamond, and the pack changed that recipe. The pack also sets its stack size to 64.[16][20]

Infused Enderpearl uses a shard and an ender pearl, with the mod's own recipe.[16]

This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.

Tools and utility items

The Smart Wrench has several modes, and you right-click on air to change mode. As a normal wrench, sneak-right-click picks a block up and right-click rotates it. In select mode, sneak-right-click selects a master block and right-click associates other blocks with it. Other machines use the wrench too. You set Powercell sides with it (blue is input, yellow is output, blank is neither), and you link a Matter Beamer to its Spawner with it.[15][21][22]

The Information Screen goes adjacent to a machine and shows energy information by default. Some machines, such as Powercells, offer extra views, and using a wrench on the screen toggles the display mode when the attached machine supports it.[23]

The Tablet (empty) references remote GUIs and information. An empty tablet opens a GUI where you combine it with a tablet information item. Once it holds one, right-click opens the information GUI and sneak-right-click opens the tablet GUI. The pack changed the empty tablet's recipe.[15][16]

Many RFTools machines accept modules, which you can usually insert by right-clicking the machine with the module. The Filter Module is one of these, and it makes a block accept only certain items. It is used with XNet, storage, the Builder and the Crafter. Sneak-right-click an inventory to configure it from that inventory's contents, or sneak-right-click a block to add that block to the filter.[6][15][17]

The Crafting Card stores the ingredients and end result of a recipe, so it can be used for crafting.[15]

Security

The mod includes a security and owner system, with a Security Manager block that manages your security cards.[1][15]

How do you progress through RFTools Base?

6 parts

RFTools Base is the foundation mod for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. It has no big tech tree of its own. Its progression is about crafting materials: get Dimensional Shards, build frames and bases, then use the shards to infuse things. This pack changes several of these recipes, so follow the recipes below and not what you remember from the mod's defaults.[7][16]

Starter tools

The Technology Guide, Smart Wrench, Crafting Card and Filter Module all use the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack. The wrench is handy later: the guide says you can use it in Wrench Mode to change which way a placed machine faces.[4][16]

Dimensional Shards

The Dimensional Shard is the key material of the mod. The guide says Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, is affected by Fortune, and drops shards. Shards go into several more complicated recipes and can also be used to infuse machines.[3]

The pack changed the crafting recipe for the shard, so you can make it by hand:[16]

Dimensional ShardChanged by the pack

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

QuartzPrismarine Shardany glass

Recipe id: rftoolsbase:dimensionalshard

The pack also adds ways to get shards. You can break down RFTools Dimensions decorative blocks with shapeless recipes. The Dimensional Blank Block gives 4 shards, the Dimensional Block and Dimensional Small Blocks give 3 each, and the Cross, Cross2, Pattern1 and Pattern2 blocks give 2 each.[16]

You can also sieve Dust with Ex Deorum. In the pack's script, a shard drops from the Diamond Mesh with a 0.1 chance, from the Netherite Mesh with 0.2, from the Allthemodium Mesh with 0.25 and from the Vibranium Mesh with 0.35. The Golden Mesh and the lower meshes do not drop it.[16][19]

Frames and bases

The Machine Frame does nothing on its own, but it is a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. The pack changed its recipe.[5][16]

Endgame use

Infused Diamond is not just a mid-game item in this pack. The pack's Extended Crafting script for the Crystal Matrix Ingot uses one Infused Diamond in the very middle of its table pattern, so it is worth keeping the supply going.[24]

How does RFTools Base work with other mods?

5 parts

RFTools Base is the shared crafting-material mod for the RFTools family, and the pack's recipes show that clearly. Machine Frame is a crafting ingredient that does nothing on its own. The pack also ties the mod's rarer materials into several recipes from completely different mods.[5][7][16]

Machine Frames in XNet

XNet is a separate mod for item, fluid and power distribution, and it builds on this mod's crafting materials. The recipe for its Controller is below, and the Redstone Proxy recipe follows it. You will craft frames for XNet just like for any RFTools machine.[14][16]

Endgame crafting with Infused Diamond

The biggest crossover is Infused Diamond. The pack adds or changes several Extended Crafting table recipes that need it as one of their inputs:[16]

Tip: In this pack Infused Diamond stacks to 64, which helps a lot when these big recipes ask for it several times.[20]

Shape Cards and the Ultimate Gem

The pack changed the recipe for Shape Card (Quarry). It is now an Extended Crafting table recipe, shown below. The pack also changed Shape Card (Fortune Quarry), and its recipe follows. Shape Cards are what the Builder and Shield Projector read, so this decides how you unlock quarrying.[16][27]

The pack-added recipe for Ultimate Gem makes 12 gems at once from a huge list of gems from many mods. Our Dimensional Shard is one of them.[16]

More ways to get Dimensional Shards

Dimensional Shards normally come from Dimensional Shard Ore underground, and Fortune affects the drops. The pack adds two more routes: a shapeless craft that turns a Dimensional Blank Block into 4 shards, and an Ex Deorum sieve recipe that gives a shard from Dust.[3][16]
