What is Mystical Agriculture?

2 parts

Mystical Agriculture is all about growing your resources like crops. You plant seeds, harvest essences, and turn those essences into materials, mob drops, tools and armor. This pack ships version 8.0.28 of the mod.[1][2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book covers the mod in the "Generating Resources" chapter. That chapter is in the "Resources & Logistics" group and is chapter 8 of 31. It has 99 quests and also covers other farming mods such as Replication and Mob Grinding Utils. The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.[3]

The mod's own line starts with "Mystical Agriculture" quest, a Tier 1 quest that asks for Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland. The quest says you need at least 8 Inferium Essence to make your first Inferium Seed.[3]

What comes after

Only part of the chapter's quest text was available for this guide. The rest is in the quest book itself, so look there for the full details.[3]

How do you get started with Mystical Agriculture?

6 parts

Mystical Agriculture lets you grow resources as crops. In this pack the quest book starts it in the "Generating Resources" chapter (group "Resources & Logistics", chapter 8 of 31). The first quest is "Mystical Agriculture" quest, marked Tier 1, and it asks you for Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland. That is also a good order to follow.[3]

Step 1: Get Inferium Essence

Inferium Essence is the base of everything else. The quest says it can be fished up, dropped by mobs, or gained by mining the ore. One catch: this pack sets General.inferiumDropChance to 0 (the mod default is 0.2), so the mob drop chance is turned off. Inferium Ore still generates in the world, as World.generateInferiumOre is true, and you can smelt it into essence.[3][4]

Smelting

  • any inferium ore

Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:inferium_essence_smelted

Smelting Inferium ore into essence.

The pack also adds smelting and blasting recipes that turn Inferium Dust from another mod into Inferium Essence.[5]

Step 2: Craft your first Inferium Seeds

The quest says that once you have at least 8 essence you can make your first Inferium Seed and start growing it. Those crops give you more essence, so you are no longer relying on mining.[3]

Step 3: Plant on Essence Farmland

Essence Farmland increases the Inferium Essence you get from a harvest. The quest says you make it by using an essence on normal farmland, and that it can be crafted too. Right-clicking farmland with essence works here because General.essenceFarmlandConversion is true. You do not strictly need it, since General.requiresEffectiveFarmland is false, so crops do not need their matching farmland to grow.[3][4]

Step 4: Prosperity Shards and the Infusion Crystal

Next comes "Prosperity Shards" quest. Prosperity Shard is mined from Prosperity ore, which generates in the world because World.generateProsperityOre is true. You need a lot of it for the different seeds, and for most tools and armor. Its most important use is the Infusion Crystal, which upgrades 4 essences into the next tier, starting with Inferium. The basic crystal has 1,000 uses, set by General.infusionCrystalUses (the same as the mod default).[3][4]

This pack also adds a sifting recipe that can give you a Prosperity Shard.[5]

Sifting (createsifter)

Recipe id: ftb:create/sifting/minecraft/sands_with_blazing_mesh

Added by the pack. One of the possible results is a Prosperity Shard.

Step 5: Build the Infusion Altar

"Making Custom Seeds" quest covers making resource seeds. You need an Infusion Altar, 8 Infusion Pedestal blocks and Prosperity Seed Base. Most resource seeds use the seed base, except mob seeds. The altar recipe is changed by the pack, so use the one below.[3][5]

Place the altar and it shows where the 8 pedestals go. Put the recipe items on the pedestals in any order, then give the altar a redstone signal. A Block of Redstone under the altar starts any valid recipe instantly.[3]

What comes after

Once you have done "Prosperity Shards" quest, the quest book opens several branches at once:[3]

Tip: General.secondarySeedDrops is false in this pack, so harvesting does not give a bonus second seed. If you have spare seeds, a reprocessor recipe turns an Inferium Seed back into 2 Inferium Essence.[4][5]

How does Mystical Agriculture work?

5 parts

Most of Mystical Agriculture runs on a few crafting stations that each do one job: the Infusion Altar makes seeds, the Seed Reprocessor turns seeds back into essence, and the Awakening Altar handles the elemental endgame. Here is how those pieces work in this pack.[1][5]

Infusion: how seeds are made

Seeds are crafted with an Infusion Altar surrounded by Infusion Pedestals. When you place the altar in the world it shows you where the pedestals go. The pack has 81 recipes of the infusion type, and each one makes a different result. Air seeds are a simple example.[1][5]

Air SeedsMod recipe

Infusion (mysticalagriculture)

    Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:seed/infusion/air

Augments use the same infusion system. For example, the Absorption I augment is an infusion recipe, and it grants 2 absorption hearts every 8 minutes.[5][6]

    Infusion (mysticalagriculture)

    Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:augment/absorption_i

Upgrading essence to a higher tier needs an Infusion Crystal. In this pack the basic crystal has General.infusionCrystalUses set to 1000 uses, which matches the mod default.[1][4]

Normal resource seeds need some of their resource plus the tier essence of the seed. Mob seeds need Soul Jars of the matching mob, and you fill the jars by killing mobs with a Soulium Dagger while the jars are in your inventory.[1]

Watch out: General.seedCraftingRecipes is false in this pack, so there are no vanilla crafting recipes for seeds. Use the Infusion Altar.[4]

    Reprocessing seeds

The Seed Reprocessor turns extra seeds back into essence. The pack has 84 reprocessor recipes, one per seed. Air seeds give you 2 Air Essence each, for example.[1][5]

    Reprocessor (mysticalagriculture)

    Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:seed/reprocessor/air

    Growing and harvesting

Right-clicking vanilla farmland with an essence turns it into Essence Farmland, because General.essenceFarmlandConversion is true. Imperium Farmland can also be crafted directly.[1][4][5]

    Crafting Shapeless

    Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:imperium_farmland

Crops do not have to sit on their matching farmland to grow, because General.requiresEffectiveFarmland is false. Essence Farmland is still the way to get more Inferium Essence per harvest from Inferium Seeds.[1][4]

Growth Accelerators speed up crops by giving them a growth tick every 10 seconds. That is the value of General.growthAcceleratorCooldown, and it matches the mod default. Watering cans can be used by fake players too, since General.fakePlayerWatering is true, which helps automation. Scythes and Sickles speed up harvesting, and the Harvester can harvest fields automatically.[1][4]

    Drops and essence sources

The pack changed General.inferiumDropChance to 0, down from the mod default of 0.2. Mobs will not drop Inferium Essence in this pack, so your Inferium comes from other sources. Harvesting a resource crop has a 0.1 chance to drop Fertilized Essence (General.fertilizedEssenceChance), the same as the mod default.[4]

Second seed drops are off (General.secondarySeedDrops is false). The pack's loot script also gives dirt a 0.15 chance to drop Dirt Essence when you break it with a shovel.[4][7]

The Ender Dragon and the Wither drop essence when killed with an essence weapon. They also drop Cognizant Dust when the weapon has the Mystical Enlightenment enchantment. All of these options (General.dragonDropsEssence, General.dragonDropsCognizant, General.witherDropsEssence, General.witherDropsCognizant) are true.[4]

    Awakening: elemental endgame

Awakened Supremium comes from the Awakening Altar. The Awakened Supremium Block recipe takes a Supremium Block, 10 each of air, earth, fire and water essence, and 4 Cognizant Dust. You can also turn the block back into 9 Awakened Supremium Essence.[5]

    Awakening (mysticalagriculture)

    Crafting Shapeless

    Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:awakened_supremium_block_uncraft

Wearing a full set of Awakened Supremium armor gives the Plant Growth AOE set bonus in this pack, because General.awakenedSupremiumSetBonus is true.[4]

Unverified Power use, item and fluid handling and exact upgrade effects for the Harvester, Furnace, Seed Reprocessor and Soulium Spawner could not be confirmed from the available sources, and neither could the exact pedestal layouts around the altars.

How do you progress through Mystical Agriculture?

    6 parts

The Mystical Agriculture questline lives in the Generating Resources chapter of the quest book (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 8 of 31). It starts with "Mystical Agriculture" quest and branches out from there, one tier of essence at a time.[3]

    Getting your first essence

You meet the mod early, in the Getting Started chapter. "Cobble and Stone!" quest and the dirt quest a quest in "Getting Started" both come after the Aero Scoop quest, and "Essential Waters" quest says fishing for essence is very useful. It also says to combine fished essence with inferium essence and prosperity seeds to grow essences passively. The rest of that chapter's quests are in the quest book.[8]

One Aero Scoop recipe the pack changed gives you Dirt Essence, Grains Of Infinity Essence and Stone Essence, among other outputs. The pack also gives dirt broken with a shovel a 0.15 chance (15%) to drop dirt essence.[5][7]

    Tier 1: Inferium

The Mystical Agriculture quest asks for Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland. The quest says essence can be fished up, dropped by mobs or mined from the ore, and that you need at least 8 before you can make your first Inferium Seed.[3]

Next is "Prosperity Shards" quest. Prosperity Shards come from Prosperity ore, and you need a lot of them for seeds, tools and armor. The most important use is the Infusion Crystal, which upgrades 4 essences into the next tier, starting with Inferium. The pack adds a way to make Prosperity Ore without mining, plus a Mekanism enriching recipe that turns prosperity ores into 12 Prosperity Shard.[3][5]

    Dripper (ftbstuff)

    Unlocking custom seeds

"Making Custom Seeds" quest comes after Prosperity Shards. You build an Infusion Altar with 8 Infusion Pedestal around it, and you need Prosperity Seed Base for most resource seeds. Items go on the pedestals in any order, then the altar needs a redstone signal. A Block of Redstone under the altar starts valid recipes instantly. The pack changed the altar recipe from the mod default.[3][5]

Prosperity Shards also unlock a batch of quests, all listed as coming after it:[3]

Making Custom Seeds in turn leads to "Tier 1 Seeds" quest, "Understanding Essence Farmland" quest, "Elemental Seeds" quest and "Prudentium Essence" quest.[3]

    The essence tiers

Each tier of essence is worth a fixed amount of Inferium Essence, according to the quest book:[3]

Tiers 2 to 5 also have seed quests (Tier 3 Seeds, Tier 4 Seeds and Tier 5 Seeds). Tier 2 Mob Seeds come after Prudentium Essence and Growing Mobs, and they need a Soulium Seed Base plus filled Soul Jars of the mob essence you want. The Tier 3, 4 and 5 Mob Seed quests also follow Growing Mobs, which has you make a Soulium Dagger, a Soul Extractor and a Soul Jar.[3]

The pack adds its own infusion recipe for Antimony Seeds:[5]

    Antimony SeedsAdded by the pack

    Infusion (mysticalagriculture)

    Recipe id: ftb:mysticalagriculture/infusion/antimony_seeds

    Added by the pack.

Tip: Higher tier Growth Accelerators do not grow crops faster. They only reach further, so you can stack more blocks. 18 Prudentium Growth Accelerators give the same speed as 9 Inferium and 9 Prudentium in one tower.[3]

    Past Supremium: the Awakened tier

"Supremium Essence" quest opens several quests at once: "Awakening Altar" quest, "Master Infusion Crystal" quest, "Cognizant Dust" quest and "Insanium Essence" quest. The Master Infusion Crystal needs at least 6 Supremium Essence and never breaks.[3]

Cognizant Dust only drops from the Ender Dragon or the Wither. They must be slain with a Mystical Agriculture weapon enchanted with Mystical Enlightenment, which the quest says you buy from the FTB Shop.[3]

The Awakening Altar uses Awakening Pedestal blocks and Essence Vessel blocks. The vessels hold one of each elemental essence, and the altar needs a redstone signal. The pack changed both the altar and vessel recipes.[3][5]

"Awakened Essence" quest comes after Cognizant Dust, Supremium Essence and the Awakening Altar. It makes the Awakened Tier, and Awakened gear has more augment slots. The Elemental Seeds quest says they are also used to make Awakened Supremium Essence. This is the recipe for the Awakened Supremium Block:[3][5]

    Awakening (mysticalagriculture)

    Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:awakened_supremium_block_awakening

After that comes a quest in "Generating Resources", which processes Infusion and Awakening recipes in one block when placed next to an AE2 Pattern Provider holding those patterns.[3]

    Insanium and the Cruxes

Seeds crafted with Insanium need a Crux to grow, placed directly below the farmland. a quest in "Generating Resources", "Nether Star Seeds" quest and "Dragon Egg Seeds" quest all come after the Insanium Essence quest. Insanium Essence can also be uncrafted into 4 Supremium Essence.[3][5]

How does Mystical Agriculture work with other mods?

    7 parts

Mystical Agriculture is all about essences, and this pack uses them as an input for lots of other mods. Here are the in-pack recipes that mix this mod's items with items from other mods.[5]

    Essences into other mods' materials

Essences are the bridge to a lot of other mods' materials. The in-pack essence recipes cover Certus Quartz Crystal and Certus Quartz Dust, Grains of Infinity, Draconium Ingot, Compressed Iron Ingot, Quartz Enriched Iron, Menril Berries, Menril Log, and Create's Crimsite and Asurine. Two examples are shown below.[5]

The pack's Aeroscoop recipes for the Mechanical Blazing Mesh and Mechanical Cloth Mesh give essences as output, including dirt, stone and grains of infinity essence. Both recipes are marked as changed by the pack.[5]

    Bees and metalworks

Productive Bees centrifuge recipes give essence plus wax, for example Imperium Essence and Awakened Supremium Essence. Productive Metalworks can melt Imperium Essence into 90 Molten Imperium and melt a whole Imperium Block into 810. Casting reverses both of those steps.[5]

    Automation and tools

The recipes for the Farmer, Crafter and Awakening Altarnator are all marked as changed by the pack, and so is the one for the Inferium Watering Can. Related items are this mod's Machine Frame and Soulium Ingot, and Excessive Utilities' Watering Can. The quest for the watering can is "Inferium Watering Can" quest. In the quest book, Mystical Agriculture sits in the Generating Resources chapter, in the Resources & Logistics group. Many of that chapter's quests aren't shown in my sources, so the rest of the cross-mod advice is in the quest book itself.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Mystical Agriculture?

    2 parts

Mystical Agriculture shows up in two quest chapters I can walk you through here: "Getting Started" in the Main Questline group, and "Generating Resources" in the Resources & Logistics group. Getting Started introduces essence early, and Generating Resources is where the full Mystical Agriculture line lives.[3][8]

    Getting Started

Essence turns up right from your starter island. These are the quests in this chapter that ask for Mystical Agriculture items.[8]

22 more Getting Started quests weren't available to me, so check the quest book for those.[8]

    Generating Resources

This chapter runs the mod as a tier ladder. Here is the order the quests unlock in.[3]

    1. "Mystical Agriculture" quest (Tier 1) asks for Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland. You need at least 8 essence to make your first seed.[3]
    2. "Prosperity Shards" quest comes next and asks for a Prosperity Shard and an Infusion Crystal. The crystal upgrades 4 essences into the next tier.[3]
    3. Prosperity Shards opens several quests: "Speeding Up Farms with Blocks!" quest (growth accelerators), a quest in "Generating Resources", "Inferium Watering Can" quest, "Machine Upgrades" quest, "Inferium Armor" quest, "Growing Mobs" quest (Soulium Dagger, Soul Extractor and Soul Jar) and "Making Custom Seeds" quest.[3]
    4. "Making Custom Seeds" quest asks for an Infusion Altar, an Infusion Pedestal and Prosperity Seed Base. The quest says you need an Infusion Altar and 8 Infusion Pedestals.[3]
    5. Making Custom Seeds leads to "Tier 1 Seeds" quest, "Understanding Essence Farmland" quest, "Elemental Seeds" quest and "Prudentium Essence" quest.[3]
    6. The essence tiers then follow in a chain: "Prudentium Essence" quest (4 Inferium Essence), "Tertium Essence" quest (16), "Imperium Essence" quest (64), "Supremium Essence" quest (256) and "Insanium Essence" quest (1,024). Each tier also has its own seeds quest, and the mob seeds quests (starting at "Tier 2 Mob Seeds" quest) also require Growing Mobs.[3]
    7. Supremium Essence opens "Awakening Altar" quest, "Master Infusion Crystal" quest and "Cognizant Dust" quest. "Awakened Essence" quest needs all three of Cognizant Dust, Supremium Essence and the Awakening Altar, and asks for an Awakened Supremium Block and Awakened Supremium Essence.[3]
    8. a quest in "Generating Resources" comes after Awakened Essence, so it is the last step of that branch.[3]
    9. Insanium Essence leads to three final quests: a quest in "Generating Resources", "Nether Star Seeds" quest and "Dragon Egg Seeds" quest.[3]
Tip: Cognizant Dust only drops from the Ender Dragon or the Wither, and only when they are killed with a Mystical Agriculture weapon enchanted with Mystical Enlightenment. The quest says you can buy that enchantment from the FTB Shop.[3]

Unverified The Gearing Up chapter is not covered here. Its quest text wasn't available to me, so check the quest book to see what it asks for.

Which Mystical Agriculture config options matter?

    3 parts

The config for this mod is simple. In this pack's config file, only one value is marked as changed from the mod default, and it is the one most likely to affect how you play.[4]

Watch out: General.inferiumDropChance is set to 0 in this pack, while the mod default is 0.2. That option is the chance that a passive or hostile mob drops an Inferium Essence when killed, so mobs will not drop it here. Plan on growing your essence instead.[4]

What changed in Mystical Agriculture between versions?

    2 parts

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Mystical Agriculture 8.0.28 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it's a long-time resident.[2]

I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so the notes below come from the mod's own changelogs for the last two releases.[2]

    8.0.28 (the version in 1.10.0)

    • Added a new config option, enchantableSupremiumArmor.[9]
    • Fixed the enchantableSupremiumTools config option.[9]
    • Fixed the Infusion Altar and Awakening Altar potentially loading neighboring chunks.[9]

    8.0.27

    • Fixed the enchantment level always being 1 when the input ingredients were flipped in the Enchanter.[10]
