FTB Stuff & Things is a mod in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.13.0, where it is version 21.1.19. A collection of useful little machines and blocks (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is FTB Stuff & Things?

1 part

This pack includes FTB Stuff & Things (release 21.1.19). In the quest book it covers your early resource-making: getting water, making cobblestone and lava, and breaking blocks down automatically.[1][2]

You start with a Wooden Basin to squeeze water out of leaves, then use a Dripper to drip fluids onto blocks below it. Later come the Tempered Glass Jar for heating cobblestone into lava, the Jar Automater to automate the jar, and the Stone Cobble Generator for steady cobblestone. The auto-hammers (iron, gold, diamond and netherite) crush blocks into smaller bits for you.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The mod's quests are in the "Getting Started" chapter, in the "Main Questline" group. It is chapter 4 of 31 in the book and has 57 quests. Here is how the mod's quests chain together:[2]

Tip: You can place a water source block on top of the dripper to fill it permanently.[2]

The other 36 quests in this chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest of what the chapter teaches.[2]

How do you get started with FTB Stuff & Things?

5 parts

In this pack, your first FTB Stuff & Things items come from the Getting Started chapter of the Main Questline (chapter 4 of 31, 57 quests). Eleven of those quests aren't covered here, so read them in the quest book. Here is the order the book leads you through, and why.[2]

Wooden Basin: your first water

The first item is the Wooden Basin, asked for in "Getting Water" quest, which comes after "Wooden Tools" quest. The quest has you shear some leaves, put the basin down, place the leaves on top and jump on them until the water comes out. It also asks for a bowl, because you need a way to scoop the water out.[2]

Dripper: turning water into materials

Next is the Dripper, from "Scooping And Dripping" quest. Scoop water with the bowl, place the Dripper above a block, and use the filled bowl on it. It slowly drips water onto the block below to make different materials. For example, water on leaves makes more water, and the "Clay" quest quest uses water over dirt to make clay.[2]

Tempered Glass Jar: heat and lava

After "Proper Materials" quest, "Tempered Glass Jar" quest asks for a campfire and a Tempered Glass Jar. The jar can steadily heat cobblestone until it melts into lava. Without a tank beside it, it expels the fluid into the world as a fluid capsule. The jar's own recipe is below, followed by the campfire recipes for Cast Iron Ingot and Tempered Glass.[2][3]

Jar Automater and Cobble Generator

Two quests unlock right after the jar. In "Jar Automator" quest you make the Jar Automater. Place it above a tempered jar and any valid recipe inside starts automatically, so you no longer have to start each mix by hand.[2]

"Compact Cobble" quest asks for the Stone Cobble Generator. Place it down and it steadily outputs cobblestone to an adjacent inventory, which saves you from fiddly lava and water placement. The quest says a similar block exists for basalt, and the pack has a recipe for the Stone Basalt Generator too.[2][3]

Auto-Hammers

"Auto-Hammers" quest also opens after "Proper Materials" quest. Auto-hammers pull from an inventory on the blue side, crush the block, and push the result to an inventory on the red side, so the crushing is automatic. The quest accepts the Iron Auto-Hammer, Gold Auto-Hammer, Diamond Auto-Hammer or Netherite Auto-Hammer. The pack changed the Diamond one, shown below.[2][3]

How does FTB Stuff & Things work?

8 parts

FTB Stuff & Things describes itself as "Just a collection of useful stuff... and things", and that fits. In this pack it gives you hammers and auto-hammers, tiered cobblestone and basalt generators, sluices and water strainers with different meshes, a pump, compressed blocks, cast iron, and a couple of odd machines. Here is what the pack's data actually confirms about how they work.[4]

Hammers and crushing

Hammers come in stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite tiers, and the tooltip sums them up as crushing materials down to their core components. The mod has its own hammer recipe type, and the pack adds hammer recipes to it. One example: hammering plain basalt gives you Crushed Basalt.[3][4]

The pump

The Pump has its own Jade entry. There is also an advancement about over-winding a pump and suffering the consequences, and the mod has a death message for being killed by static electricity. So don't push it past its limits.[4]

The pack's scripts also define a second pump recipe that uses a ceramic bucket holding water, so look at the pump in JEI to see every way to craft it.[5]

Cast iron

Sluices, strainers and meshes

The mod has sluices in many wood types plus iron, diamond and netherite, and water strainers in the wood types. Meshes come as cloth, iron, gold, diamond and blazing. The pack changed the recipe for the Acacia Water Strainer. It also changed a recipe that turns a Mechanical Blazing Mesh into Dust along with other outputs.[3][4]

Other machines

  • The SlowMelter 9000 is used to fuse items together to produce new results.[4]
  • The "Super" Cooler is used to "super"-cool items to produce new results.[4]
  • The Wooden Basin has a JEI note: place a block on top of the basin, then fall or jump on it.[4]
  • Creative Hot, Superheated and Chilled Temperature Sources exist, and a pack script adds a recipe for each of the three.[4][6]

Unverified Power, fluid and item handling for these machines is not shown in the sources here, and the pack provides no config files or in-jar guidebook for this mod. That covers generator output rates, the pump's capacity and limits, the Jar Automater, and the exact inputs and heat levels the SlowMelter 9000 and Super Cooler use.

How do you progress through FTB Stuff & Things?

4 parts

The FTB Stuff & Things quests sit in the Getting Started chapter, which is chapter 4 of 31 in the Main Questline group. The mod's items turn up in a rough order: water tools first, then hammers, tempered jars and generators once you have Iron.[2]

Early game: water and drippers

"Getting Water" quest comes after Wooden Tools. It has you make a Wooden Basin, put Leaves on top and jump on them to squeeze out water. The basin recipe is added by the pack.[2][3]

Hammer and auto-hammer tiers

"Auto-Hammers" quest unlocks after Proper Materials. It accepts an Iron, Gold, Diamond or Netherite auto-hammer. An auto-hammer pulls from an inventory on its blue side, crushes the block, and pushes the result into an inventory on its red side.[2]

The tiers build on each other. The Gold Auto-Hammer needs the Iron Auto-Hammer plus a Gold Hammer. The Diamond Auto-Hammer needs the Gold Auto-Hammer plus a Diamond Hammer. The pack changed the Gold and Diamond auto-hammer recipes from the mod's own.[3]

Compressed basalt gives you a big payoff from hammering. These hammer recipes are added by the pack:[3]

Tempered jars and the Jar Automator

"Tempered Glass Jar" quest is also unlocked by Proper Materials. A Tempered Glass Jar can steadily heat cobblestone until it melts into lava. Without a tank beside it, the jar expels the fluid it makes into the world as a fluid capsule.[2]

The jar needs Tempered Glass and a Cast Iron Ingot. In this pack you can get both in a few ways:[3]

  • Cast Iron Ingots can be cooked from an iron ingot on a campfire. The pack changed this recipe.[3]
  • Tempered Glass can be cooked from glass panes on a campfire.[3]
  • The pack also adds blasting recipes for both items.[3]

"Jar Automator" quest comes right after the jar quest. Place a Jar Automater above a tempered jar and any valid recipe inside it starts automatically. The quest calls this practically overpowered for lava generation.[2]

Generator tiers

"Compact Cobble" quest also follows the jar quest. It asks for a Stone Cobble Generator, which outputs cobblestone steadily into an adjacent inventory. The quest also mentions a similar block for basalt.[2]

How does FTB Stuff & Things work with other mods?

4 parts

FTB Stuff & Things is the starting point for a lot of the pack's cross-mod progression. Most of the links below are recipes the pack added or changed, so they may differ from what you know from the mod on its own.[3]

Sifting with meshes

The pack adds sifting recipes (the createsifter:sifting type) that take FTB Stuff materials and run them through the pack's meshes. Dust is the big one. With a Mechanical Blazing Mesh it can give Nickel Ingot, Silver Ingot, Salt Dust and Industrial Aluminum Dust from Modern Industrialization, plus vanilla gold ingots and redstone.[3]

With a Mechanical Diamond Mesh or Mechanical Gold Mesh, Dust gives chunks and dusts instead, such as Gold Chunk, Silver Chunk and Bauxite Dust. The Mechanical Iron Mesh and Mechanical Cloth Mesh give a smaller set of results.[3]

Crushed Basalt sifted with the blazing, diamond or gold mesh gives Sulfur Dust, netherrack and Dirty Netherite Scrap from Mekanism.[3]

Crushed Netherrack leads into other mods too. The Mechanical Blazing Mesh gives Black Quartz from Actually Additions and Soulium Dust from Mystical Agriculture. The diamond and gold meshes give Quartz Chunk and Soulium Dust.[3]

Aero Scoop recipes

The pack's Aero companion adds Aero Scoop recipes that turn a mesh into Dust, string, and three Mystical Agriculture essences: dirt, stone and grains of infinity. The recipes for the blazing, cloth, diamond, gold and iron meshes were changed by the pack. The one for the Creative Mesh was added by it.[3]

The pack also adds a crushing recipe that turns end stone into End Stone Powder from the Aeronautics mod, and also into Crushed Endstone.[3]

The cobble generators pull in Excessive Utilities compressed cobblestone, and every tier uses plates from FTB Materials. Upgrade recipes then move you from one tier to the next, so you do not need to craft each generator from scratch. Here is the top-tier cobble generator.[3]

The three creative temperature sources, Creative Hot Temperature Source, Creative Superheated Temperature Source and Creative Chilled Temperature Source, are crafted in this pack from Creative Ascension plus a lava bucket, a Blue Magma Block or blue ice.[3]

The pack also changed all the water strainer recipes, such as the Oak Water Strainer, to use a Mechanical Cloth Mesh.[3]

Unverified Two pack-added explosion recipes combine Grains of Infinity from Ender IO with Compressed Clay or Compressed Sand. The recipe data does not show what they produce.

In the quest book

The FTB Stuff quests sit in the Getting Started chapter of the Main Questline, chapter 4 of 31 in the book. The quest "Getting Water" quest comes right after the Wooden Tools quest, which asks for Wooden Shears from another mod. It mentions placing the shears in the Bonsai Pot for Aeronautic ship islands. "Scooping And Dripping" quest follows it.[2]

"Auto-Hammers" quest and "Tempered Glass Jar" quest both come after the Proper Materials quest. "Jar Automator" quest and "Compact Cobble" quest then follow the jar quest. The chapter has more quests that aren't covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[2]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use FTB Stuff & Things?

2 parts

All of this mod's quests sit in one chapter: Getting Started, chapter 4 of 31 in the book, in the Main Questline group. They come in two clusters. The water and dripping tools show up early, and the hammers, jars and cobble generator come after the iron milestone.[2]

Early game: water and dripping

  1. "Getting Water" quest comes after "Wooden Tools" quest. It asks for a Wooden Basin and a bowl. You gather Leaves with your Wooden Shears (or put the Shears in the Bonsai Pot on ship islands), place the Leaves on the basin and jump on them to squeeze out Water.[2]
  2. "Scooping And Dripping" quest follows. It asks for a Dripper. You scoop water with a bowl, place the Dripper above the block you want to drip on, and use the filled bowl on it. Dripping water on Leaves makes more water, for example.[2]
  3. "Clay" quest comes after the dripping quest and the dirt quest a quest in "Getting Started". It is about dripping water over dirt to make clay, and it asks for a clay ball and a ceramic bucket.[2]
Tip: You can place a Water Source Block on top of the Dripper to fill it permanently, so you don't have to keep refilling it with a bowl.[2]

After iron: hammers, jars and cobble

The rest of the mod's quests unlock after "Proper Materials" quest, which asks for an iron ingot. That quest itself comes after "Clusters of Creation" quest, "Essential Waters" quest and "The Old Ways" quest, one from each of the three resource paths.[2]
