What is Ender IO?
1 part
Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod with machines, conduits, inventory management, armor, tools, weapons and mobs. This pack ships version 8.2.12-beta.[1][2]
Its best-known feature is conduits, the configurable pipes. The mod itself lists item, fluid, energy and redstone conduits, plus Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemical conduits. In this pack's logistics quests you will find redstone, energy, item, fluid and chemical conduits.[1][3]
Where it sits in the quest book
The main chapter is "EnderIO", in the "Tech Mods" group. It is chapter 24 of 31 in the book and has 24 quests. It opens with "Welcome to EnderIO!" quest, which asks for Grains of Infinity. In this pack you can get those just by jumping off your island.[4]
Two quests come straight after that: "Alloy Smelter" quest and "Basic Capacitor" quest. The Alloy Smelter then branches into "Energetic Alloy" quest, "Dark Steel Ingot" quest, "Soularium Ingot" quest, "Other Useful Machines" quest and "EnderIO Conduits" quest. "Vibrant Alloy" quest also follows the Alloy Smelter, and it comes after Energetic Alloy too.[4]
The far end of the chapter runs through "Binding Souls" quest to "Ender Crystal" quest. Two quests come after the Ender Crystal: "Grains of the End" quest and "Staff of Travelling" quest.[4]
Ender IO also shows up in the "Logistics" chapter, in the "Resources & Logistics" group (chapter 9 of 31, 57 quests). It has its own quest, "EnderIO" quest, which asks for the Yeta Wrench. The redstone, energy, item, fluid and chemical conduit quests all come after it. The rest of that chapter is told in the quest book.[3]
How do you get started with Ender IO?
5 parts
Ender IO is a tech mod with machines, inventory tools and automation. In the pack's quest book it sits in the EnderIO chapter of the Tech Mods group (chapter 24 of 31). Everything starts with "Welcome to EnderIO!" quest, so here is the order I'd go in.[4]
Step one: Grains of Infinity
The first thing the quest asks for is Grains of Infinity. In this pack you get some just by jumping off your island, so you don't need to hunt for them.[4]
Step two: the Alloy Smelter
The Alloy Smelter is the machine you'll use most in Ender IO, because most machines and gizmos need an alloy made in it. The pack changed its crafting recipe, so go by this one and not what you remember from the mod:[4][5]
Crafting Shaped
| any obsidian |
Recipe id: enderio:alloy_smelter
This recipe was changed by the pack.
It has three modes: alloy only, furnace only, and alloying plus smelting. You can also set side input and output and redstone control in its interface.[4]
Step three: capacitors
Most machines need a capacitor to work, and the tier sets the machine's speed and energy storage. The Basic Capacitor gives no bonus, but it is the minimum for most powered machines. The pack changed this recipe too:[4][5]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | any grain of infinity dusts | |

Step four: your first alloys
Next, make Dark Steel Ingot in the Alloy Smelter. The quest calls it the first alloy you need for powered machines, and it is the most commonly used alloy across Ender IO machines, blocks and items.[4]
After that comes Energetic Alloy Ingot, which the pack's recipe produces in a batch of 2. It leads to the Double-Layer Capacitor, the next capacitor tier, which doubles a machine's energy storage and speed.[4][5]

Where to go next
- Soularium Ingot is needed for late-game machines like the Soul Binder and Slice'N'Splice. The pack changed its smelting recipe.[4][5]
- SAG Mill crushes items into dusts and can increase ore yields. Flint works as a grinding ball when you're just starting out.[4]
- Conduits are Ender IO's configurable pipes. You set them up with the Yeta Wrench and can hide them with a Conduit Facade.[4]
- Octadic Capacitor is the highest craftable capacitor tier and triples a machine's energy storage and speed.[4]
How does Ender IO work?
7 parts
Ender IO machines run on energy measured in uI. Each machine has an energy capacity and a base usage per tick (uI/t), and the pack sets both in its machine config. Most of these values match the mod defaults, and I'll flag the few the pack changed.[6]
Power storage
Capacitor banks are your main energy buffer. A basic bank holds 500,000 uI, an advanced bank 2,000,000 uI and a vibrant bank 4,000,000 uI, all the same as the mod defaults. The mod also has an advancement for building a Capacitor Bank.[6][7]
The pack changed how you craft the Advanced Capacitor Bank. The pack-changed recipe is below. There is also an upgrade recipe that turns a Basic Capacitor Bank into an advanced one.[5]

Generating power
- Stirling Generator: produces a base 40 uI/t and holds 64,000 uI. It performs 0.375 burn ticks per machine tick. Fuel efficiency starts at 80 percent and rises by 20 for each capacitor level.[6]
- Photovoltaic modules: the energetic rate is 4, the pulsating rate is 16 and the vibrant rate is 64. The energetic rate is described as the production at midday without rain or thunder.[6]
- Soul Engine: has a 100,000 uI capacity and a base burn speed of 1.[6]
Processing machines
Here is what each machine holds and draws. The pack leaves all of these at the mod defaults.[6]
- Alloy Smelter: 64,000 uI capacity and 20 uI/t. Vanilla smelting items cost 1,500 uI each.[6]
- Sag Mill: 64,000 uI capacity and 20 uI/t.[6]
- Slicer: 100,000 uI capacity and 30 uI/t.[6]
- Soul Binder: 128,000 uI capacity and 60 uI/t.[6]
- Painting Machine: 64,000 uI capacity, 30 uI/t, and 2,400 uI for each painting operation.[6]
- Crafter: 64,000 uI capacity, and a crafting recipe costs 3,200 uI.[6]
- Farming Station 40 uI/t, Drain 10 uI/t, Impulse Hopper 16 uI/t and Niard 10 uI/t. Each has a 64,000 uI capacity.[6]
Alloy smelting is how you make Conductive Alloy Ingot in the Alloy Smelter, and the pack changed that recipe. You can also turn a Conductive Alloy Block back into nine ingots with a crafting recipe.[5]

Painting recipes turn a plain block into a painted one, for example a crafting table into the Painted Crafting Table. Soul binding makes the Animal Token from a Soularium Grinding Ball.[5]
Painting (enderio)
Recipe id: enderio:painting/painted_crafting_table
The Enchanter has three cost settings. The base level cost is 2, lapis cost is the enchant level times 3, and the final XP cost is multiplied by 0.75.[6]
Obelisks and the spawner
The obelisks have base ranges of 8 for the Attractor and 16 each for the Aversion, Inhibitor and Relocator. The Attractor does not attract bosses in this pack. The pack also halved the upkeep of the Aversion, Inhibitor and Relocator obelisks to 10 uI/t from the default 20, so they are cheaper to leave running.[6]
The Powered Spawner holds 100,000 uI and draws 20 uI/t. Mobs without custom spawner soul data cost 50,000 uI to spawn. It spawns 4 mobs at a time and turns itself off if 2 entities are in range. With more than 10 spawners, efficiency drops. Its spawn type is set to NEW, which spawns the same entity types as the soul vial rather than an exact copy. Soul vials cannot change spawners in this pack.[6][8]
Charging
The wired charger draws 64 uI/t, up from the mod default of 60, and holds 128,000 uI. The wireless charger has the same capacity, charges at 60 uI/t, costs 2 uI/t in upkeep and has a base range of 16.[6]
Conduits
Conduits carry your items, fluids, energy and redstone signals. Ender IO also has conduits for Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemicals. In this pack you can mix tiers of energy, fluid and item conduits, and mix chemical conduit tiers as well. The ME conduits have no idle power usage, whether normal or dense.[1][9][10]
Grains of Infinity
Grains of Infinity drop from fire. A fire must be at least 260 ticks old, and the game tracks up to 500 fires per dimension, pruning the oldest first. In your private team base dimension, you also get one automatically about every 5 seconds while below Y level -32, unless you or your team has the no_infinity stage.[8][11]
How do you progress through Ender IO?
6 parts
Ender IO has its own chapter in the quest book, called "EnderIO", in the Tech Mods group (chapter 24 of 31, with 24 quests). It starts with "Welcome to EnderIO!" quest, which asks for Grains of Infinity. In this pack you can get some just by jumping off your island.[4]
From that first quest the chapter splits in two: "Alloy Smelter" quest and "Basic Capacitor" quest. Nearly everything else grows out of the Alloy Smelter.[4]
First steps: Alloy Smelter and Basic Capacitor
The Alloy Smelter is your most used machine, because most machines and gizmos need an alloy made in it. It can be upgraded with capacitors, and you can set it to alloy only, furnace only, or both. Both mode can backfire when automating, since some items get smelted before they turn into alloys. The pack changes the recipes for both the Alloy Smelter and the Basic Capacitor, so use the recipes below rather than what you remember from the base mod.[4][5]

The alloy tiers
- Dark Steel Ingot is the first alloy you need for powered machines and the most commonly used one across Ender IO. The pack changes its alloy smelting recipe.[4][5]
- Energetic Alloy Ingot is mostly used for Double Layer Capacitors and Vibrant Alloy. The pack changes its recipe. It also adds extra ways to make Conductive Alloy Ingot: a Create mixer, a Modern Industrialization mixer and an Extended Industrialization alloy smelter.[4][5]
- Vibrant Alloy Ingot is the high tier alloy, used in several recipes including the Electromagnet and the Octadic Capacitor.[4]
- Soularium Ingot is a soul-based alloy for late-game machinery like the Soul Binder and the Slice'N'Splice. The pack changes its recipe.[4][5]

Capacitor tiers
Most machines need a capacitor, and the tier sets the machine's speed and energy storage. The Basic Capacitor gives no improvement but is the minimum for most powered machines. The Double-Layer Capacitor has a Base Modifier of 2, which doubles both energy storage and speed. Its quest follows the Basic Capacitor and Energetic Alloy quests. The Octadic Capacitor is the highest craftable tier with a Base Modifier of 3, tripling both. Its quest follows the Double Layer Capacitor and Vibrant Alloy quests. The pack changes the Double-Layer recipe.[4][5]

Branches off the Alloy Smelter
- Dark Steel branch: "Enchanter" quest lets you pick the enchantment you want, "The Ender" quest is a basic Dark Steel sword that is good for gathering mob heads, and "SAG Mill" quest crushes items into dusts. Flint works as a grinding ball when you are just starting out.[4]
- Conduits: "EnderIO Conduits" quest introduces the configurable pipes and the Yeta Wrench, and "Hiding Conduits" quest covers hiding them with the Painting Machine. The Logistics chapter then has separate Ender IO quests for redstone, energy, item, fluid and chemical conduits.[3][4]
- Utility: "Other Useful Machines" quest covers the Vacuum Chest for nearby items and the XP Vacuum for nearby experience orbs.[4]
- Vibrant branch: "Electromagnet" quest unlocks the Electromagnet, which pulls items into your inventory from up to 5 blocks away.[4]
- Soularium branch: "XP Obelisk" quest and "Slice'N'Splice" quest both come after the Soularium Ingot quest. This branch leads to the late game.[4]
Late game: souls and the Ender Crystal
The Slice'N'Splice turns mob heads into special machine parts. It needs an Axe (at least iron) and Shears, and each operation costs one durability from each tool. Several of its recipes are changed by the pack, such as the Z-Logic Controller below.[4][5]
Slicing (enderio)

"Binding Souls" quest follows the Slice'N'Splice. You capture mob souls with an empty Soul Vial and use them in the Soul Binder, which consumes liquid experience. Two quests come after it: "Powered Spawner" quest (which also needs the Slice'N'Splice quest) and "Ender Crystal" quest. The Powered Spawner is built from a Broken Spawner, which you get by breaking a vanilla spawner. It spawns mobs up to 4 blocks away and takes capacitor upgrades like other powered machines.[4]
Soul Binding (enderio)
- any vibrant crystal gem
Recipe id: enderio:soulbinding/ender_crystal
After the Ender Crystal, the chapter ends with "Grains of the End" quest and "Staff of Travelling" quest. The staff lets you teleport forward a short distance with Sneak + Right-click, and the Travel Anchor sets waypoints you can teleport to.[4]
Power generation
Ender IO also shows up in the Power Generation chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 10 of 31). There, a quest in "Power Generation" covers the pulsating, vibrant and energetic solar modules, which generate energy in daylight with a clear view of the sky. The pack changes the recipe for the Energetic Photovoltaic Module. The rest of that chapter is told in the quest book.[5][13]

How does Ender IO work with other mods?
6 parts
Ender IO sits in the Tech Mods group of the quest book, as chapter 24 of 31. In this pack it is tied into many other mods in two ways: other mods' recipes borrow Ender IO items, and Ender IO recipes now ask for other mods' items. Here is what the recipes show.[4][5]
Grains of Infinity is the bridge
The first quest in the chapter, "Welcome to EnderIO!" quest, has you collect Grains of Infinity, and it says you can get them just by jumping off your island. They turn up in recipes from lots of other mods, so it is worth stocking up.[4][5]
- The pack changed the recipe for Iron Gear to use Grains of Infinity. That gear then goes into the Alloy Smelter, Crafter, Drain, Impulse Hopper and Painting Machine, as well as the Dark Bimetal Gear and Energized Bimetal Gear.[5]
- Applied Energistics 2 is linked twice. The pack changed the Tiny TNT recipe to need Grains of Infinity, and an added AE2 transform recipe turns Grains of Infinity, nether quartz and lava into Black Quartz.[5]
- The pack's versions of the Simple Magnets basic magnet, the Dripping Upgrade and both Gateways Gate Pearl recipes call for Grains of Infinity. So does the added recipe for the Void Crystal Catalyst.[5]
- Mystical Agriculture and Productive Bees can supply them too. A Grains of Infinity essence crafts into Grains of Infinity, and a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe gives them along with Wax. Soularium essence crafts into Soularium Ingot.[5]
- The pack also added several Lychee world recipes (burning, exploding and item-inside types) that consume Grains of Infinity alongside things like Compressed Cobblestone, Compressed Clay, Compressed Sand or Grass Seed. The recipe list here does not show their results.[5]

Recipe id: enderio:iron_gear

Ender IO parts that need other mods' materials
Plenty of Ender IO recipes were changed to use FTB Materials items. Silicon is needed for the Crafter and for the slicing recipes of the Ender Resonator, Z-Logic Controller and Zombie Electrode.[5]
Dusts show up a lot too. Coal Dust is used for the Dark Steel Ingot alloy recipe, the Photovoltaic Composite and the Double-Layer Capacitor. Obsidian Dust is used for the Big Item Filter and the Hardened Conduit Facade. The Photovoltaic Plate alloy recipe uses a Silver Plate.[5]
Excessive Utilities plugs into the capacitor line. An added recipe combines an Octadic Capacitor with a Bedrockium Ingot to make more Octadic Capacitors. The quest book follows the Octadic Capacitor quest with "Bedrockium Capacitor" quest, and the quest text shown to me does not include a description for it.[4][5]

Alloys made in other mods' machines
You can make Energetic Alloy Ingot from Conductive Alloy Ingot and Electrum Ingot in a Create mixer, a Modern Industrialization mixer, an Extended Industrialization alloy smelter or an Oritech foundry. The Oritech foundry can also make Dark Steel Ingot from a Steel Ingot and obsidian. The quest book introduces the alloy in "Energetic Alloy" quest.[4][5]
Conduits and pipes
The pack added recipes that turn Mekanism's Basic Pressurized Tube, Advanced Pressurized Tube and Advanced Thermodynamic Conductor into Conduit Bundle with a Conduit Binder. Separate added recipes turn Infused Alloy or Reinforced Alloy straight into conduits. On the mod's project page, Mekanism Chemicals, Applied Energistics 2 ME and Refined Storage are listed among the conduit types.[1][5]

It works the other way too. The pack changed Oritech's Fluid Pipe and Pump recipes to use the Conduit Binder. It also added a recipe that makes a Basic Chemical Filter from an Osmium Ingot and paper.[5]

Solar parts and decorations
The Photovoltaic Plate is used outside Ender IO. The pack's recipes for the Mekanism Generators Solar Panel and the Dyson Cube Project Solar Sail both need one. The Beam uses Dark Steel Bars, and Mob Grinding Utils' Tinted Glass uses a Dark Steel Ingot.[5]
Fluids and rarer items in other mods' recipes
- Fluid Liquid Sunshine Still is an ingredient in Liquid Echo (Create and Modern Industrialization mixers). It is also used for the Pocket Mirror and Shiny Stone recipes, and in the Create sequenced assembly for Flashpine.[5]
- A Modern Industrialization mixer makes Fluid Liquid Darkness Still from liquid sunshine, Obsidian Dust and an amethyst shard. Oritech's centrifuge then uses 250 of it with a Coconut Chunk to make Coconut Milk.[5]
- Grains of the End feeds White Rum (Advanced AE reaction chamber and Modern Industrialization recipes). It also makes Compressed Ender Grains, which can be made in a Modern Industrialization implosion compressor or a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber.[5]
- The Monster Token goes with Ceraunus in a Malum spirit infusion for the Shield of Cthulhu. The "Enderios" recipe was changed to need Ender Dust.[5]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Ender IO?
2 parts
Most of the Ender IO questing sits in one chapter called "EnderIO". It is in the Tech Mods group, chapter 24 of 31 in the book, and has 24 quests. It opens with "Welcome to EnderIO!" quest, which asks for Grains of Infinity. The quest says you can get them just by jumping off your island in this pack.[4]
The EnderIO chapter, in order
- After the welcome quest, two quests open up: "Alloy Smelter" quest (the Alloy Smelter) and "Basic Capacitor" quest (the Basic Capacitor).[4]
- The Alloy Smelter quest unlocks five more: "Energetic Alloy" quest, "Other Useful Machines" quest (asks for the Vacuum Chest and the XP Vacuum), "Dark Steel Ingot" quest, "Soularium Ingot" quest and "EnderIO Conduits" quest (asks for a Conduit Bundle and the Yeta Wrench). "Hiding Conduits" quest follows the conduits quest and asks for the Conduit Facade and the Painting Machine.[4]
- The capacitor line runs through three quests. "Double Layer Capacitor" quest comes after the Basic Capacitor and Energetic Alloy quests. "Vibrant Alloy" quest comes after Energetic Alloy and the Alloy Smelter. "Octadic Capacitor" quest comes after both of those. The Double Layer Capacitor quest says it has a Base Modifier of 2, and the Octadic Capacitor quest says its Base Modifier is 3. "Electromagnet" quest also hangs off Vibrant Alloy.[4]
- "Bedrockium Capacitor" quest comes after the Octadic Capacitor quest. It asks for the Octadic Capacitor again, and the book gives it no description text.[4]
- The Dark Steel Ingot quest leads to three quests: "Enchanter" quest, "The Ender" quest and "SAG Mill" quest. The SAG Mill quest asks for the SAG Mill plus one grinding ball of any listed type, such as the Dark Steel Grinding Ball.[4]
- The Soularium Ingot quest leads to "XP Obelisk" quest and "Slice'N'Splice" quest.[4]
- Slice'N'Splice leads to "Binding Souls" quest, which asks for the Soul Vial and the Soul Binder. "Powered Spawner" quest comes after both of those quests and asks for the Broken Spawner and the Powered Spawner.[4]
- Binding Souls also leads to "Ender Crystal" quest. Two quests come after it: "Grains of the End" quest, which asks for Grains of the End, and "Staff of Travelling" quest, which asks for the Staff of Travelling and the Travel Anchor.[4]
Ender IO in other chapters
Ender IO shows up in three other chapters too.[3][12][13]
- Logistics (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 9 of 31): "EnderIO" quest asks for the Yeta Wrench. Five quests come after it, and each asks for an Ender IO conduit: "Redstone Conduit" quest, "Energy Conduit" quest, "Item Conduit" quest, "Fluid Conduit" quest and "Chemical Conduit" quest.[3]
- Power Generation (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 10 of 31): a quest in "Power Generation" accepts any one of the Pulsating Photovoltaic Module, the Vibrant Photovoltaic Module or the Energetic Photovoltaic Module.[13]
- Pina Colada (group Main Questline, chapter 6 of 31): a quest in "Pina Colada" asks for the Liquid Darkness Bucket along with a coconut milk bucket. It comes after Empowering Crystals and the Coconut quest. The EnderIO chapter's Grains of the End quest also feeds into the White Rum Bucket quest here.[12]
Which Ender IO config options matter?
4 parts
Most of Ender IO's config in this pack sits at the mod defaults. Only a handful of values were changed, and those are the ones worth knowing about. Energy values are in uI, and per-tick values are in uI/t.[6][8]
What the pack changed
- The Aversion, Inhibitor and Relocator obelisks use 10 uI/t each (energy.aversion.usage, energy.inhibitor.usage, energy.relocator.usage). The mod default is 20, so they run at half the usual cost.[6]
- The wired charger uses 64 uI/t (energy.wiredCharger.usage), up from the mod default of 60.[6]
- The levitation staff holds a maximum of 1,000 energy (items.levitationstaff.maxEnergy), down from the mod default of 10,000.[8]
Power storage and generation
Everything else here is at the mod default. Capacitor banks hold 500,000 (basic), 2,000,000 (advanced) and 4,000,000 (vibrant), set by energy.capacitorBankCapacity.basic, energy.capacitorBankCapacity.advanced and energy.capacitorBankCapacity.vibrant.[6]
The stirling generator produces a base 40 uI/t (energy.stirlingGenerator.generation). Photovoltaic cells are rated 4, 16 and 64 for energetic, pulsating and vibrant (energy.photovoltaicCellRates.energetic, energy.photovoltaicCellRates.pulsating, energy.photovoltaicCellRates.vibrant).[6]
Spawners, obelisks and travel
- Soul vials cannot change spawners: items.soulVials.allowSpawners is false in this pack.[8]
- The Attractor Obelisk does not attract bosses (obelisks.attractorAttractBosses is false).[6]
- The powered spawner spawns 4 mobs at a time (poweredSpawner.spawnAmount) and uses the NEW spawn type (poweredSpawner.spawnType). Mobs without custom soul data cost 50,000 energy (poweredSpawner.defaultSpawnEnergyCost).[6]
- Travel items have a blink range of 24 (items.travelling.blinkRange), an energy use of 1,000 (items.travelling.energyUse) and a maximum energy of 100,000 (items.travelling.maxEnergy).[8]
Conduits
You can mix tiers freely for energy, fluid and item conduits, and for Mekanism chemical conduits (conduits.canMixEnergyConduitTiers, conduits.canMixFluidConduitTiers, conduits.canMixItemConduitTiers, mekanism.canMixChemicalConduitTiers). All four are true.[9][10]
