What is Actually Additions?
1 part
Actually Additions is a magitech mod full of gadgets. You use the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer to turn minerals into powerful crystals. Those crystals let you build machines for processing and sorting items, lasers that move energy, items and fluids wirelessly, and renewable oil for power. This pack ships version 1.3.26.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book has a chapter called "Actually Additions" in the "Tech Mods" group. It is chapter 21 of 31 in the book and holds 39 quests.[3]
The quest book opens the chapter with "Welcome to Actually Additions!" quest, which asks you to hand in Black Quartz. Its text describes the mod as mainly about creating and empowering crystals with lasers, and tells you to get Budding Black Quartz or trade with piglins to get started.[3]
Next comes "Atomic Reconstructor" quest, and most of the chapter branches off it. These are the quests that follow it directly:[3]
- "Automatic Feeder" quest, "Energy Management" quest and "Empowering Crystals" quest[3]
- "Batteries" quest, "Coffee Maker" quest and "Light Blue Drill" quest[3]
- "Crystal Blocks" quest, "Sacks" quest and "Farmer" quest[3]
The "Lens" quest quest leads into the specialised lens quests, such as "Lens of Certain Death" quest and "Lens of the Miner" quest. "Empowering Crystals" quest leads on to "Bio Reactor" quest, "Teleport Staff" quest and "Leaf-Eating Generator" quest. "Empowered Canola Seeds" quest needs both Empowering Crystals and "Crystallized Canola Seeds" quest first, and that one in turn comes after "Canola" quest.[3]
Some quests in this chapter are not covered in this guide, so check the quest book in-game for those.[3]
How do you get started with Actually Additions?
5 parts
Actually Additions is all about making crystals and then empowering them, and the pack's quest book says exactly that in its first quest, "Welcome to Actually Additions!" quest. It sits in the "Actually Additions" chapter, in the Tech Mods group. Here is the order I would go in.[3]
Step one: get some Black Quartz
The first quest asks for Black Quartz. It says you get started with Budding Black Quartz or by trading with piglins.[3]
The pack also gives you other routes. You can smelt Black Quartz Ore into Black Quartz, and the pack adds an Applied Energistics 2 transform recipe and a Create sifting recipe (with a blazing mesh and crushed netherrack) that both produce it.[4]
Step two: craft the Atomic Reconstructor
The Atomic Reconstructor is one of the main machines of the mod, and the next quest, "Atomic Reconstructor" quest, is about it. Its recipe has been changed by the pack, so use the one below and not what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:atomic_reconstructor
Once it has power, it fires a laser up to ten blocks, or until the beam hits another block. Anything dropped or placed on either side of the beam gets crystallized. Batteries are a handy way to carry energy around, and the "Batteries" quest quest says they can be charged by any wired or wireless method.[3]
Step three: crystallize a block
You can crystallize whole blocks at once by dropping or placing them next to the beam. The pack has changed the laser recipe that turns a diamond block into a Diamatine Crystal Block. The quest for this is "Crystal Blocks" quest.[3][4]
Laser (actuallyadditions)

Step four: set up the Empowerer
The Empowerer consumes four surrounding items to empower your crystals, as "Empowering Crystals" quest explains. Place a Display Stand three blocks away (a two block gap) on each side of it. Where the items sit on the stands does not matter, but the stands need power.[3]
The pack has changed the empowering recipe for the diamatine block too:[4]

Clay
2× Clay Ball
- any light blue dye
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:empowering/diamatine_block
Step five: lenses and what comes next
Lenses go on the Atomic Reconstructor to change what it does. The plain Lens is only a crafting material for the others, see "Lens" quest. The Lens of the Miner turns stone or deepslate into overworld ores, and netherrack into nether ores. The pack changed its recipe:[3][4]

After the Atomic Reconstructor quest, the chapter opens up into machines, tools and generators. The Canola line is worth a look for power: "Canola" quest says Canola can generate energy through its oil variants, and you can find seeds in the world or buy them from The Market.[3]
One extra from the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter is Crafting Table On A Stick, a portable crafting table that goes in a Curio slot ("On A STICK!" quest).[5]

How does Actually Additions work?
5 parts
Actually Additions is built around a simple loop: you turn minerals into crystals with the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer, then use those crystals to build machines for processing and sorting items, lasers that move energy, items and fluids wirelessly, and renewable oil for power. This section covers what the pack's recipes and scripts let us confirm about each step.[1]
Crystals first
The mod even has an achievement for your first crystal, "Make a Crystal with the Atomic Reconstructor". In this pack, turning a diamond into a Diamatine Crystal is a laser-type recipe, and the pack has changed it from the mod's version. The recipe below is the one that counts.[4][6]
Laser (actuallyadditions)
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:laser/crystalize_diamatine_crystal
The next step up is the Empowerer, which turns the Diamatine Crystal into an Empowered Diamatine Crystal. The pack has changed this recipe too.[4][6]

Moving energy, items and fluids
The laser system is the mod's wireless logistics. The mod lists separate relay blocks for each kind of cargo:[1][6]
- Energy: Energy Laser Relay, Advanced Energy Laser Relay and Extreme Energy Laser Relay.[6]
- Items: Item Laser Relay and Advanced Item Laser Relay.[6]
- Fluids: Fluid Laser Relay.[6]
Black quartz without a mine
Black Quartz Ore can be made from blocks in the stone ore replaceables tag, using the mod's mining lens recipe type. That matters because Black Quartz is part of the Basic Coil.[4]

Oil and liquid fuel in this pack
The mod handles four of its own fuel fluids: canola oil, refined canola oil, crystallized oil and empowered oil. For fluids from other mods, the pack script adds extra liquid fuel recipes for the mod, so they can be burned too. The pack also puts the refined canola, crystallized and empowered oils into common fluid tags.[7][8]
Every one of those added recipes uses 50 of the fluid. Each fluid gets a fuel value in the script, and the recipe's burn time is that value times 120 and its total energy is that value times 9,600. A fluid with a value of 1.0, such as Modern Industrialization biodiesel, therefore gets a burn time of 120 and a total energy of 9,600.[7]
Unverified This source set doesn't explain how the Lava Factory multiblock is built, what Greenhouse Glass does, how the Phantom Connector links blocks, or which generator reads the liquid fuel recipes. Check the in-game manual or your recipe viewer for those. This site does hold FTB Skies 2: Aero's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you progress through Actually Additions?
7 parts
Actually Additions sits in the Tech Mods group of the quest book. Its opening quest, "Welcome to Actually Additions!" quest, asks you for Black Quartz to begin.[3]
Tier 1: Black Quartz and the Atomic Reconstructor
The first quest says to get Budding Black Quartz or trade with piglins. The Piglin Trading quest ("Piglin Trading" quest) in Getting Started covers the trading route: toss gold ingots at piglins in the Nether, and they may hand back nether quartz or black quartz. The rest of that chapter is in the quest book.[3][9]
The pack also adds other ways to get Black Quartz, so you are not stuck waiting on piglins:[4]
- Smelting or blasting a Black Quartz GeOre block gives 4 Black Quartz (pack-added).[4]
- A pack-added AE2 transform recipe makes 2 Black Quartz, and a pack-added Create sifting recipe can drop it too.[4]
- Black Quartz Ore smelts, blasts or crushes into Black Quartz. The Lens of the Miner can create that ore from stone later on.[3][4]
Your first real machine is the Atomic Reconstructor ("Atomic Reconstructor" quest). It needs power, shoots a laser up to ten blocks, and crystallizes any dropped items or blocks placed beside the beam. The pack changes this recipe from the mod's version, so craft it from the one below.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:atomic_reconstructor
Most of the chapter hangs off this quest. These quests all unlock after the Atomic Reconstructor:[3]
- Power: "Energy Management" quest asks for the Energizer and Enervator. "Batteries" quest asks for any of the batteries, from the Single Battery up to the Quintuple Battery.[3]
- Automation: the book asks for the Farmer and the Automatic Feeder. The Auto-Breaker, Auto-Placer, Long-Range Breaker and fluid machines share "Block & Fluid Management" quest.[3]
- Pickup: the book asks for the Ranged Collector and the Ring of Magnetizing. "Sacks" quest asks for the Traveler's Sack or the Void Sack.[3]
- Tools: "Light Blue Drill" quest asks for the Light Blue Drill together with any one of the drill augments.[3]
- Generators and extras: the book asks for the Heat Collector, the Coffee Maker and the Leaf Blower.[3]
Lenses
The basic Lens is only a crafting material. The quests for the Certain Death, Miner, Color, Disenchanting and Detonation lenses all come after it. The Lens of the Miner turns stone or deepslate into overworld ores and netherrack into nether ores. The pack changes its recipe, so use this one:[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
| any coal | ||
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:lens_of_the_miner
Crystal blocks
"Crystal Blocks" quest (titled 900% Value!) lets you crystallize whole blocks at once by dropping or placing them beside the laser. The pack changes the laser recipes that turn a diamond block into a Diamatine Crystal Block and an emerald block into an Emeradic Crystal Block.[3][4]
Laser (actuallyadditions)
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:laser/crystalize_diamatine_crystal_block
Tier 2: Empowering
"Empowering Crystals" quest introduces the Empowerer. It consumes four surrounding items to empower a crystal. You set a Display Stand three blocks away (a two block gap) on each side of it, and the quest says you will need to power the stands. The pack changes the empowering recipes for the Diamatine block, the Emeradic block and Empowered Canola Seeds. Here is the Diamatine one as an example:[3][4]
Empowering (actuallyadditions)
Diamatine Crystal Block
Clay
2× Clay Ball
- any light blue dye
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:empowering/diamatine_block
These quests unlock after Empowering Crystals:[3]
- The quest says the Bio Reactor generates energy by burning resources, and that it makes more power when it burns different kinds.[3]
- The quest says the Teleport Staff teleports you in the direction you are looking when charged.[3]
- The quests say the Leaf-Eating Generator consumes leaves to generate power, and the Ring of Growth grows crops around the player when charged.[3]
- The Greenhouse Glass grows crops and saplings at random intervals, but only in daytime with a clear view of the sky.[3]
- The quest says the Vertical Digger automatically mines the area below it, with one mode that mines everything and one that mines ores only.[3]
- The Lava Factory Controller and Lava Factory Casing make lava blocks when powered.[3]
Tiered Display Stands
"Tiered Display Stands" quest asks you to upgrade your Display Stands if you want to automate the Empowerer or craft more advanced items. It lists what each tier unlocks:[3]
- Iron Tier: Empowered Crystal Blocks.[3]
- Gold Tier: the Blessed Apple.[3]
- Diamond Tier: Polonium Pellets.[3]
- Netherite Tier: Coconuts and Empowered Ice.[3]
"Empowered Crystal Blocks" quest asks for the Empowered Crystal Blocks and notes that they can only be crafted on Iron or higher tiered Display Stands.[3]
The canola fuel ladder
Canola is the pack's long-term fuel path. The Canola quest says seeds can be found in the world or bought from The Market, and that Canola Oil variants generate energy. Each step below builds on the one before:[3]
- Refine Canola Oil into Refined Canola Oil with the fermenting recipe.[4]
- Make Crystallized Canola Seeds with the laser, then drop them into Refined Oil to get Crystallized Oil. The quest for this step comes after both Canola and the Atomic Reconstructor.[3][4]
- Make Empowered Canola Seeds in the Empowerer (the pack changes this recipe, shown below), then drop them into Crystallized Oil to get Empowered Oil. The quest calls it the best fuel the mod has to offer.[3][4]
Empowering (actuallyadditions)
Recipe id: actuallyadditions:empowering/empowered_canola
The pack also adds Modern Industrialization mixer recipes for Crystallized Oil and Empowered Oil, so you can make them without the drop-in method. Its fuel script leaves Actually Additions' own liquid fuel recipes for these four oils alone.[4][7]
Where this leads
In the main questline, the Gate Pearl quest (a quest in "Getting Started") comes after Proper Materials. It says that once you have started generating some energy, you can get into the Powah and Actually Additions mods to craft a Gateway that gives you Sculk Shriekers.[9]
One side note on tools: the All-In-One Tools quest in Useful Items & Tips asks for any AIOT, from the Wooden AIOT to the Netherite AIOT.[5]
The pack's after_diamond events trade script also includes a trade entry that buys a diamond pickaxe and sells the Diamond AIOT.[10]
How does Actually Additions work with other mods?
3 parts
Actually Additions is wired into a lot of the rest of the pack. Its crystals, batteries and machines show up as ingredients in other mods' recipes, and the pack adds ways to get its Black Quartz from other mods. Here is what the recipes show.[4]
In the quest book this mod has its own chapter, "Actually Additions", in the Tech Mods group (chapter 21 of 31). Part of that chapter's quest text is not included here, so check the book itself for the rest.[3]
Getting Black Quartz from other mods
The welcome quest points you to Budding Black Quartz or piglin trading for your Black Quartz. The pack also adds several routes through other mods, so you can pick whichever fits your base.[3][4]
- GeOre: smelting or blasting a Block Of Black Quartz GeOre gives 4 Black Quartz, and a Black Quartz GeOre Shard gives 1. Both recipes were added by the pack.[4]
- Neovitae: black quartz dust can be smelted or blasted into Black Quartz, again with recipes added by the pack.[4]
- AE2: a pack-added transform recipe turns Grains of Infinity, nether quartz and lava into 2 Black Quartz.[4]
- Create sifting: sifting Crushed Netherrack with a Mechanical Blazing Mesh can drop Black Quartz, along with blaze powder, glowstone dust, quartz and Soulium Dust.[4]

Black Quartz also goes the other way. A pack-added Cognition molecular metamorphosis recipe turns it, with Grains of Infinity and Silver Essence, into 8 Osmium Essence. Productive Bees has a bee conversion recipe that uses a Block of Black Quartz.[4]
Actually Additions items inside other mods' recipes
The pack changed the recipes below so that Actually Additions items are part of them. These are pack values, not the other mods' defaults.[4]
- Refined Storage's Machine Casing now needs an Iron Casing.[4]
- Excessive Utilities' Magmatic Generator needs an Empowered Restonia Crystal.[4]
- Dyson Cube Project's EM Rail Ejector Controller needs a Restonia Crystal.[4]
- The Atomic Empowering Matrix from Not Enough Patterns is made through Actually Additions empowering, and the pack changed that recipe. It involves the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer.[4]
Crafting Shaped

Changed by the pack, so it uses items from several other mods.
That Lens of the Miner recipe is worth a look. According to its quest, the Lens of the Miner turns stone or deepslate into overworld ores and netherrack into nether ores. See the "Lens of the Miner" quest quest for details.[3][4]
Crystals, batteries and creatures in new roles
- The pack added an empowering recipe for Empowered Ice. It uses the Palis Crystal together with items from Iron's Spellbooks, Neovitae and Powah.[4]
- The Gateways recipe for a Gate Pearl (the sculk one) uses an Empowered Void Crystal, a nether star and a Blazing Crystal.[4]
- Batteries become Modern Industrialization batteries. A Quintuple Battery plus cadmium dust makes a Cadmium Battery, and a Triple Battery plus battery alloy dust makes a Silicon Battery. Both can be done in an EnderIO alloy smelter or an Extended Industrialization alloy smelter.[4]
- The Worm is an ingredient in the Malum spirit infusion for the Worm Scarf.[4]
- An Oritech particle collision turns the Ender Star into the Star Veil.[4]
- The Iron Display Stand is a crafted upgrade of the Display Stand.[4]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Actually Additions?
6 parts
The pack's quest book has a chapter called "Actually Additions" in the Tech Mods group. It is chapter 21 of 31 and holds 39 quests. A few more quests elsewhere in the book ask for items from the mod, covered at the end.[3]
Where the chapter starts
Six quests have no prerequisite, so you can start them in any order. "Welcome to Actually Additions!" quest is the intro and asks for Black Quartz. Its text suggests getting Budding Black Quartz or trading with piglins. The other five are "Lens" quest (the basic Lens), "Coffee Beans" quest, "Worm" quest, "Canola" quest and "Flax Seeds" quest.[3]
Atomic Reconstructor and lenses
"Atomic Reconstructor" quest comes after the intro quest and asks for the Atomic Reconstructor. Its text calls it one of the main machines of the mod. Most of the rest of the chapter is gated behind this quest.[3]
The basic Lens quest is followed by five lens quests: "Lens of Certain Death" quest, "Lens of the Miner" quest, "Lens of Color" quest, "Lens of Disenchanting" quest and "Lens of Detonation" quest. The text of the last one warns that the Lens of Detonation creates a fiery explosion around the block the laser hits.[3]
After the Atomic Reconstructor
These quests all list the Atomic Reconstructor quest as their prerequisite, so you can take them in any order:[3]
- "Automatic Feeder" quest asks for the Automatic Feeder, and "Farmer" quest asks for the Farmer.[3]
- "Energy Management" quest asks for the Energizer and the Enervator, and "Batteries" quest asks for any one of the five batteries.[3]
- "Coffee Maker" quest asks for the Coffee Maker, "Ranged Collector" quest for the Ranged Collector, "Ring of Magnetizing" quest for the Ring of Magnetizing, "Leaf Blower" quest for the Leaf Blower and "Heat Collector" quest for the Heat Collector.[3]
- "Sacks" quest asks for either the Traveler's Sack or the Void Sack.[3]
- "Light Blue Drill" quest asks for the Light Blue Drill plus one drill augment of your choice.[3]
- "Block & Fluid Management" quest asks for one of the Auto-Breaker, Auto-Placer or Long-Range Breaker, plus a Fluid Placer or Fluid Collector.[3]
- "Crystal Blocks" quest asks for any one of the six crystal blocks.[3]
- "Empowering Crystals" quest asks for the Empowerer and a Display Stand, and the next group of quests follows it.[3]
After Empowering Crystals
These quests list the Empowering Crystals quest as their prerequisite: "Bio Reactor" quest, a quest in "Actually Additions", "Teleport Staff" quest, "Experience Solidifier" quest, "Leaf-Eating Generator" quest, "Ring of Growth" quest, "Greenhouse Glass" quest, "Vertical Digger" quest, "Lava Factory" quest and "Tiered Display Stands" quest.[3]
The Atomic Empowering Matrix quest asks for an item from the Not Enough Patterns mod, not from Actually Additions itself.[3]
"Tiered Display Stands" quest is about upgrading your Display Stands, and it is followed by the last quest of the chapter, "Empowered Crystal Blocks" quest. That one asks for the empowered crystal blocks, and its text says they can only be crafted on Iron+ tiered Display Stands.[3]
The canola line
Canola has its own short chain. "Canola" quest comes first and asks for Canola Seeds and Canola Plant. "Crystallized Canola Seeds" quest lists both Canola and the Atomic Reconstructor quest as prerequisites, and "Empowered Canola Seeds" quest lists the crystallized seeds and Empowering Crystals. Their text describes turning Refined Oil into Crystallized Oil, and then Crystallized Oil into Empowered Oil.[3]
Quests in other chapters
- In "Useful Items & Tips" (chapter 2 of 31), "On A STICK!" quest asks for the Crafting Table On A Stick, and "All-In-One Tools" quest asks for any one of the AIOT tools, from Wooden AIOT up to Netherite AIOT.[5]
- In "Getting Started" (Main Questline, chapter 4 of 31), "Piglin Trading" quest follows "The Nether" quest. It asks for nether quartz, Black Quartz and a gold ingot, and its text says piglin trading can give you black quartz.[9]
- The Gate Pearl quest a quest in "Getting Started" in the same chapter says that once you have started generating some energy, you can get into Powah and Actually Additions to craft a Gateway.[9]
What changed in Actually Additions between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Actually Additions 1.3.26, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier, so it has been part of Aero from the early releases.[2]
Changes in 1.3.26
This is the version you get in 1.10.0. The mod's own changelog for it lists these changes:[2][11]
- A warning now appears when you try to open the booklet without Patchouli installed.[11]
- The Infrared Engineer Goggles now make mobs glow, as they should. This was a bug fix.[11]
- The farmer no longer overrides custom soil with regular farmland. This was also a bug fix.[11]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Actually Additions were available when this section was written, so earlier pack-by-pack changes to this mod are not covered here.
