Getting Started
57 quests, with the items each asks for and where they come from in FTB Skies 2: Aero.
- FTB Events
FTB Skies 2 Aero uses a system called Events that can occasionally occur. Players can use the command /events toggle ftb:[event name] to disable or re-enable each event to their own liking. Allay: A helpful allay will appear, offering to trade one item for another. Fairy: This benevolent invisible sprite provides a little boost before it moves on. Frogs: If there's a body of water nearby, a frog or squid spawns in. Goat: Players standing near the edge may receive a little nudge to help them experience the void. Llama: A special sort of llama spawns that spits helpful items at players. If placed on a lead, these can be kept around and fed to spit resources instead. Phantom: A malicious phantom swoops down to drop an anvil on someone's head! Free anvil tho... Pyromancer: A novice pyromancer stops by, if you'd like to trade a few magical goods. Wandering Trader: One of the many traders from the Wanderer guild pays a visit, offering various items to help in your adventures.
- The Sky of Beginning
- The Good Ol' Chest
Of course you need a place to store your items. You only have so many inventory slots! The problem with chests? Chest walls. Chest rooms. Needing signs to "sort" chests. Not anymore. You'll use basic chests to get you started, but head over to the General Storage chapter to learn more ways to hold all of your stuff!
Needs: The Sky of BeginningAsks for:Chest
- Puffish Skills
While you were chopping trees and running around your area, you might have seen in chat that you've gained a skill point! This pack has custom skills using Puffish Skills, which the Skill Interface can be opened by pressing K by default. There are several Skill Trees to go through, each one being leveled depending on what you do! Mining is leveled by mining ores, which can upgrade your mining speed, give Fortune levels, and upgrade your Ultimine Range!
Needs: The Sky of Beginning - Wooden Tools
Wooden tools don't have much durability or strength, but it's still far more effective than using your bare hands. You'll also need Wooden Shears to get your hands on some Leaves!
Needs: The Sky of BeginningAsks for:Wooden Axe,
Wooden Hoe,
Wooden Pickaxe,
Wooden Shovel,
Wooden Sword,
Wooden Shears
- Getting Water
So far you have made good use of your fists, but now it's time to step it up a notch. Use your Wooden Shears to gather some Leaves from the trees. This can be done in the world, or by placing the Shears into the Bonsai Pot for Aeronautic ship islands. Next, make the Basin and place it down, then place some Leaves on top of it and jump on them until you've squeezed out every last drop. This will create Water, but you'll need a way to scoop it out...
Needs: Wooden ToolsAsks for:Wooden Basin,
Bowl
- No Place Like Home! (Useful Commands)
While sleeping in a bed is the default way of setting your respawn point, you can also use the /sethome command to set a point to teleport back to with /home. Here are several other useful teleport commands you can use! /sethome (name) | Sets a home that you can teleport back to using /home (name). /back | Allows you to return to a previous point, either from a death or from where you teleported from last.
Needs: The Sky of Beginning - Scooping And Dripping
Dripping fluids slowly and steadily onto different materials is a very useful tactic. You'll need to scoop up some water using a bowl, then create and place down a Dripper above a block you'd like to drip water on. Dripping water on Leaves will create more water, for example. By using the filled bowl on the Dripper, it will slowly drip water onto the block beneath to create different materials! Tip: You can place a Water Source Block on top of the Dripper to fill it permanently!
Needs: Getting WaterAsks for:Dripper
- If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want...
If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want to know a few things about Simulated Contraptions before you set off on your adventure. It is VERY advised to use /sethome on your ship once you have assembled it, or you will not be able to get back on it. It is recommended to set up the waystone given to you as this quest reward at your ship, since /sethome is not 100% reliable.
- Physics Assembler
The Physics Assembler is the main block that actually turns your regular glued contraptions into physics-based Simulated contraptions. If you've started on an existing ship, it'll already be glued together and you just need to turn on the Physics Assembler once the ship is ready to fly. Otherwise, you can build your contraptions using Honey Glue.
Needs: If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want...Asks for:Honey Glue
- Assisted Flight ("Motion Sickness? Why so weak?" - Unnamed Dev)
Not all ghasts are terrifying. Some just need... a lot of snowballs. Head to the Shop at spawn and purchase a Dried Ghast. With a little patience and some snowy treats, you'll soon have your very own Happy Ghast companion! Place your dried ghast in a safe area and waterlog it to hatch it and grow. It'll take about 20 minutes to fully hatch. Feed the resulting Ghastling snowballs to help it grow faster. Wait or feed it until it matures into a Happy Ghast and then you can saddle up and ride into the skies! You can grow snowballs from snowbell seeds, obtained from breaking grass.
Needs: If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want...Asks for:Dried Ghast
- Contraption Diagram
The Contraption Diagram displays a lot of different details about your Simulated contraption, including its mass, velocity, center of mass, and pull/drag co-efficient. If some of those things didn't make sense to you, you are not alone; Physics can be quite complicated! Thankfully, to complete the pack you don't ever need to actually build your own physics contraption, though we highly recommend you try it out.
Needs: If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want...Asks for:Contraption Diagram
- Hot Air Burner
The Hot Air Burner shoots heat into the air when powered by redstone. The amount of heat it expels can be controlled by opening the interface when clicking the small square near the block's base. Depending on your contraption you'll need to adjust this value to release more or less heat, and reach different y levels.
Needs: If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want... - Steering Wheel
The Steering Wheel allows you to control whether your ship moves left or right, albeit slowly. When you interact with the Steering Wheel, it'll lock your screen in place and allow you to freely move your cursor left and right. If you are building your own contraptions, you can attach comparators and other redstone readers to the Wheel to measure its rotation. Tip: If you have a slow ship, it's sometimes easier to turn while reversing than moving forward
Needs: If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want... - Moving Forwards
To move your contraption, you'll need some sort of forward momentum. Starter Ships come with these Engines, you'll just need to insert any kind of burnable fuel to get it started. Simply use the wood generating from your Bonsai Pot to power the Engine on your ship and set sail.
Needs: If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want...Asks for:Red Portable Engine
- The Aero Scoop
In each starter island (or ship), your Aero Scoop will be the first way to start gathering resources. To start off, you will need a Cloth Mesh which is located inside of a barrel, usually close to the Scoop itself. Once you place the Mesh inside the Scoop, activating the contraption it is attached to will also activate the Scoop as well. If it's on your ship, the Physics Assembler will activate it! Note: If the Scoop is attached to a ship, make sure your ship is ready to fly before you active it for the Scoop!
Needs: The Sky of Beginning, If you've chosen one of the starter bases that contains a ship, you'll want...Asks for:Mechanical Cloth Mesh
- Cobble and Stone!
The Essence gathered from the Aero Scoop should be enough to create Cobblestone. It will also create several other items that will help you get started generating resources.
Needs: The Aero ScoopAsks for:Cobblestone,
Stone Essence
- Dirt
One of the first things you'll need are dirt blocks. You can craft these from dirt essence gather by your Aero Scoop. Dirt can be used to make Clay, or plant more trees, or even make yourself every minecrafter's first dirt house (in the sky, this time).
Needs: The Aero ScoopAsks for:Dirt,
Dirt Essence
- Clay
Dripping water over dirt can work it into a much more malleable form: Clay! This substance has often been prized for its versatility, though it seems much easier to obtain than previously thought...how balanced! A proper bucket is much more suited to the task, and fired clay performs the task well. It can even hold hot fluids! ...once...
Needs: Scooping And Dripping, DirtAsks for:Ceramic Bucket,
Clay Ball
- In Skies 2: Aero, you can choose which method you want to generate resources...
In Skies 2: Aero, you can choose which method you want to generate resources with! While you can do all 3, you will only be able to choose 1 bonus Boost for your preferred method.
Needs: Cobble and Stone! - Path of Prospecting (Drips of Creativity)
Strainers and sifters have worked just fine in the past, and nothing's wrong with them now! This path uses Create sifters to potentially automate the production of resources from this essence-rich void. To start, drip a bucket's worth of water over Andesite. This will form deposits of Andesite Amalgam that can be mined for early Andesite Alloy.
Needs: In Skies 2: Aero, you can choose which method you want to generate resources...Asks for:Andesite Alloy,
Andesite
- The Old Ways
By connecting sifters to rotational power with cogs, they can process loose materials created by Hammers such as gravel, sand, and dust to pick out useful resources. Sifters can accept items inserted by hand or through more automated means, and can be likewise extracted. Next page has details on mesh tiers. Sifter meshes will typically find more resources the better tier they are, from cloth to diamond, requiring the sifters to run at a higher base speed. The blazing mechanical mesh works a little differently however, it directly generates smelted ingots of metals in exchange for destroying some alternate resources. For more information on tiers and how to obtain each resource, check out the Sifting GuideMe.
Needs: Path of ProspectingAsks for:Sifter,
Mechanical Cloth Mesh
- Stress Relief
A one-time starter bonus for devoting yourself to Prospecting! Warning! Completing this quest by checking the checkmark will set your team on the Path of Prospecting and lockout the other 2 path rewards.
Needs: The Old Ways, Path Rewards Link (in backstage) - First Materials Guide
There's a lot of basic resources in Minecraft, and mods add way more on top of that! If you are struggling with how to obtain a particular type, you can check the Materials GuideMe, or check the Generating Resources chapter for guides on some of the main ways to get your hands on those resources.
Needs: In Skies 2: Aero, you can choose which method you want to generate resources... - Path of Crystalmancy (Best Buds)
By combining Grains of Infinity with some Cobblestone, a Void Crystal Catalyst is made. This block can then be dyed in-world to form a Budding Crystal for generating basic resources, depending on the dye.
Needs: In Skies 2: Aero, you can choose which method you want to generate resources...Asks for:Void Crystal Catalyst,
Bone Meal,
Grains Of Infinity Essence
- Path of Cultivation
The waters of the void collect plenty of its essence, perhaps you could simply pull some out with the right tool? This path allows you to fish up Essence for resource generation. If you don't have any water nearby, you can create a Void Fishing Rod to fish directly from the Void! Just throw your regular fishing rod into the void, and a Void Fishing Rod will eventually float back up to you. You can also jump for it. :) If there's enough water around the line, it's possible to catch something extra rare... If there's an open patch of water five blocks wide all around the bobber, and the patch is at least two blocks deep with open air above, there's a chance of catching a 'treasured' essence. Some Essence require finding the item first such as Diamond and Emerald Essence
Needs: In Skies 2: Aero, you can choose which method you want to generate resources...Asks for:Void Fishing Rod,
Fishing Rod
- Essential Waters
Fishing for essence is far more useful than expected, yielding essence that can be turned into the right resources for further progression! Combine those with some inferium essence and prosperity seeds, and a crop can be made that will grow these essences passively. Note: Some resources will require you to find the material before crafting the seeds for it. For more information check out the Mystical Agriculture GuideMe, or check the Mod Questline.
Needs: Path of CultivationAsks for:Inferium Essence,
Iron Essence
- Effishency
A one-time starter bonus for devoting yourself to Cultivation! Warning! Completing this quest by checking the checkmark will set your team on the Path of Cultivation and lockout the other 2 path rewards.
Needs: Path of Cultivation, Path Rewards Link (in backstage)Asks for:Void Fishing Rod
- Clusters of Creation
The first resource you want to create will be Iron. This can be done by using White Dye on the Void Crystal Catalyst. Once the catalyst has been transformed, small crystal buds of iron will grow from the block. Once fully grown into proper clusters, these can be broken or Right-clicked to yield shards for processing. Right-clicking with your hand gives 2 shards, while Right-clicking with a pickaxe will give more shards based on the tool's fortune level. For more information check out the GeOre GuideMe, or check the next quest below this one.
Needs: Path of CrystalmancyAsks for:Budding Iron GeOre,

Needs: Proper MaterialsAsks for:Sky Replica Ingot
- Tempered Glass Jar
By creating a Tempered Jar, cobblestone can be steadily and fully heated until it melts into lava! Without a tank beside it, these jars will clumsily expel the fluids they create into the world as a fluid capsule.
Needs: Proper MaterialsAsks for:Tempered Glass Jar,
Campfire
- Jar Automator
The Tempered Jar has a lot of versatility, but needing to manually start the mixing process every time gets old fast. This is where the Jar Automator helps! By simply placing one above a tempered jar, any valid recipe inside said jar will automatically start! Practically overpowered when it comes to lava generation...
Needs: Tempered Glass JarAsks for:Jar Automater
- Your First Diamonds
Getting your first Diamond in vanilla is a pretty big deal, and it's quite the ordeal here too! In order to get diamonds you'll need to either channel Lightning into emeralds (as items on the ground), drip Polymorphic Fluid onto an emerald block, or, more sanely, find some while exploring. A Wandering Trader might also make this conversion for you. Once you have a few, you'll be able to generate more. There is also the rare chance to fish up some diamond essence if you have found them first, and other more technical methods exist that could generate diamonds such as Coal Compression, a Lens of the Miner, etc...
Needs: Proper MaterialsAsks for:Mechanical Blazing Mesh,
Budding Diamond GeOre,

- Compact Cobble
You can place lava and water near each other in-world to generate cobblestone, but the placement is tricky to remember at times and it can be a hassle to sit there and break each piece you need. This is why the Stone Cobble Generator exists! Simply place the block down and it will output cobblestone steadily to an adjacent inventory. A similar block exists for generating basalt, and lava has special interactions with flowing Honey and Chocolate...
Needs: Tempered Glass JarAsks for:Stone Cobble Generator
- Ship Issues
The Void Boat will sometimes break if you assemble it in a different direction than it was initially facing. This happens because Integrated Dynamics only keeps a relative block offset. To fix this you'll need to use the wrench given by this quest reward and manually change the position offset of 3 blocks. On the next page is a step-by-step guide on how to fix your ship. The Integrated Dynamics components mentioned are are all located at the back of your ship on the lower deck behind some trapdoors. 1) Claim the Wrench from this quest and Right-click it in the air to switch it to "Save Offset" mode 2) Replace the Steering Wheel block with a non-create block like cobblestone and Sneak + Right-Click it with the Wrench, then place the Steering Wheel back 3) Go to the Integrated Dynamics system and right-click the Block Reader (green component) to save the new offset location 4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 for both the Gearshifts on the left and right sides of your ship, each offset should be set to the corresponding Redstone Reader blocks (red components) facing the direction of the Geashift you're fixing

This could be nether quartz or black quartz, or a fair number of other useful goods.
