What is IntegratedDynamics?
1 part
Integrated Dynamics (I.D) lets you build networks for simple or complex automation, so you can go past the friendly interfaces and get down to the core of modded Minecraft. The quest book warns that the mod has a reputation for being hard to get into, because it has a lot of coding and programming ideas in it. This pack includes version 1.36.0.[1][2]
In the quest book, Integrated Dynamics has its own chapter in the "Tech Mods" group. It is chapter 25 of 31 in the book and holds 40 quests.[2]
How the chapter flows
- "Welcome to Integrated Dynamics!" quest starts the chapter. You get a Menril Sapling, grow it, and break it down for Menril Log and Menril Berries.[2]
- Two quests follow it: "Extracting Menril" quest (the Squeezer) and "Drying Basin" quest (the Drying Basin).[2]
- Once you have both, "Early Menril Automation" quest and "Crystallized Menril" quest unlock.[2]
- "Crystallized Menril" quest leads to two quests: "Energy Battery" quest and "Networks" quest, which introduces the Logic Cable.[2]
- The Energy Battery quest leads to "Upgrading Menril Extraction" quest (the powered Mechanical Squeezer and Mechanical Drying Basin). That in turn leads to "Crystallized Chorus Chunks" quest.[2]
- The Networks quest leads to "Wrench" quest and "Mono-Directional Connector" quest. "Omni-Directional Connector" quest comes after the Mono-Directional Connector and the Logic Director.[2]
24 of the chapter's 40 quests are not covered here, so read them in the quest book. The "Getting Started" and "Logistics" chapters are also in the book.[2]
How do you get started with IntegratedDynamics?
5 parts
In this pack version, Integrated Dynamics (I.D) lives in the quest book as the "Integrated Dynamics" chapter, in the Tech Mods group (chapter 25 of 31). It opens with "Welcome to Integrated Dynamics!" quest, and the steps below follow the order of that quest tree. The mod has a reputation for being hard to get into because of the programming side, so it helps to go one step at a time.[2]
Step 1: Get some Menril
Your first goal is a Menril Sapling. Grow it, then break the tree down for Menril Log and Menril Berries. In this pack version the sapling is also a possible result of sifting dirt with a Mechanical Iron Mesh or a Mechanical Cloth Mesh (both are pack-added recipes).[2][3]
Sifting (createsifter)
Recipe id: ftb:create/sifting/minecraft/dirt_with_iron_mesh
Added by the pack. The Menril Sapling is one of the possible results.
Step 2: Squeezer and Drying Basin
In this pack version, the Squeezer extracts Menril from blocks like Menril Logs and Menril Planks. Use the item on the Squeezer, then jump on the center of its top face until something pops out. To reset it, give it a redstone signal, for example with a button or pressure plate. The pack changed this recipe.[2][3]

Step 3: Crystallized Menril
Squeezing Menril Logs into a Drying Basin gets you more Crystallized Menril per tree. Once you have a few blocks of Block of Crystallized Menril, you can start on the basics of I.D. The block is crafted from Crystallized Menril Chunk.[2][3]

Step 4: Power and your first network
In this pack version, the Energy Battery stores a base of 1,000,000 RF (the pack's value for machine.energy_battery.capacity), and it is also used to craft other energy-related parts of the mod. The pack changed its recipe.[2][3][4]

Logic Cable are the pipes of the mod. They connect to nothing by themselves, but anything connected to a Logic Cable counts as part of a network. You attach parts like Interfaces to them to reach blocks in the world. The pack changed the cable recipe, and one craft gives you 3 cables. You can hide cables with a Facade.[2][3]

Where to go next
In this pack version, after Networks the quest book moves on to "Interacting With Your Network" quest and the Wrench. Some quests in this chapter are in the quest book but not covered here, so check it for the rest.[2]
One more thing to know: in this pack version the config sets general.general.energyConsumptionMultiplier to 0. The config file describes it as the energy usage multiplier for networks.[4]
How does IntegratedDynamics work?
7 parts
Everything in Integrated Dynamics hangs off a network of Logic Cable. You run Logic Cables between parts. The mod's advancement for networks asks you to build a logic network with at least 10 connected Logic Cables. The cable recipe is one the pack changed, so use this one rather than any you remember from other packs.[3][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: integrateddynamics:crafting/cable
The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own version.
Readers, writers and variables
The mod works by reading a value, turning it into a variable, and then using that variable somewhere else. The advancement list names the main parts: Block, Inventory, Machine, Redstone, Entity and Extra-Dimensional Readers, Redstone Writers, Display Panels, Variable Cards, Materializers, Proxies, and Variable Input and Output Transformers.[5]
The reader aspects show what you can ask about. You can check whether a target handles FE, has a fluid tank or has an inventory. You can read how full an FE buffer, a tank or an inventory is as a ratio. You can check whether a machine is currently working, currently has work to process, or would be able to start working in its current state. You can also read redstone levels, and world facts such as day or night, weather and ticks per second.[5]
You build the logic itself in the Logic Programmer. Opening its GUI and visually creating a recipe with it both have their own advancements.[5]
Update rate and range
- Parts can update every tick: both machine.general.defaultPartUpdateFreq and general.general.partsMinimumUpdateInterval are set to 1 in this pack's config.[4]
- general.general.partMinimumUpdateIntervals lets you force slower updates for specific parts. It is empty in this pack's config.[4]
- A part can target a block up to 32 blocks away (machine.general.maxPartOffset).[4]
- A directional connector can look up to 512 blocks for its target (machine.general.maxDirectionalConnectorOffset).[4]
- Part Offset items dropped from a broken part have a maximum value of 4 (machine.general.enchancementOffsetPartDropValue).[4]
- Part overlays render out to 15 blocks (general.general.partOverlayRenderdistance).[4]
- Part offsets are shown from 16 blocks away (machine.general.partOffsetRenderDistance).[4]
Energy
Each part has a base energy consumption in the config. These are the values set in this pack's config, one option at a time.[4]
- general.general.energyConsumptionMultiplier, the energy usage multiplier for networks, is set to 0 in this pack's config.[4]
- general.general.blockReaderBaseConsumption is set to 1, and general.general.inventoryReaderBaseConsumption is set to 1.[4]
- general.general.redstoneWriterBaseConsumption is set to 1, and general.general.machineReaderBaseConsumption is set to 1.[4]
- general.general.delayerBaseConsumption is set to 2, and general.general.proxyBaseConsumption is set to 2.[4]
- general.general.variablestoreBaseConsumption is set to 4.[4]
- The display panel's base usage is set to 1 with no variable (general.general.panelDisplayBaseConsumptionDisabled) and 2 with one (general.general.panelDisplayBaseConsumptionEnabled).[4]
- general.general.connectorMonoDirectionalBaseConsumption is set to 32.[4]
- general.general.connectorOmniDirectionalBaseConsumption is set to 128.[4]
- The static and dynamic light panels are both set to 0 (general.general.panelLightStaticBaseConsumption and general.general.panelLightDynamicBaseConsumption).[4]
- The maximum network energy transfer rate is set to 2147483647 (core.general.energyRateLimit).[4]
The Energy Battery default capacity is set to 1,000,000 in this pack's config (machine.energy_battery.capacity). Its transfer per tick is a 1/X fraction of capacity with X set to 2000 (machine.energy_battery.energyRateCapacityFraction), and the minimum rate per tick is set to 2000 (machine.energy_battery.minEnergyRate). The coal generator's energy production rate is set to 20 RF/t (machine.coal_generator.energyPerTick).[3][4]
Mechanical Squeezer and Drying Basin
The Mechanical Squeezer has an energy capacity of 100,000 (machine.mechanical_squeezer.capacity) and a consumption rate of 80 (machine.mechanical_squeezer.consumptionRate), as set in this pack's config. It can auto-eject fluid at up to 500 mB per tick (machine.mechanical_squeezer.autoEjectFluidRate). The mechanical drying basin is set to the same 100,000 capacity and 80 consumption rate (machine.mechanical_drying_basin.capacity and machine.mechanical_drying_basin.consumptionRate). The pack changed the Mechanical Squeezer recipe.[3][4]

Menril and Crystallized Menril
The advancement text describes the Menril chain: process a Menril Log into Menril Resin, then dry it to get Crystallized Menril. Menril trees are easiest to find in Meneglin biomes. Whether a generated Menril log is filled with resin is set by worldgeneration.menril_log_filled.filledMenrilLogChance, which is 10 here (the higher the value, the lower the chance).[4][5]
Menril leaves only drop themselves when broken with shears or a Silk Touch tool, because the pack changes their loot.[6]
The pack also adds Create cutting recipes that turn a Menril tag and Stripped Menril Logs into 6 Menril Planks each.[3]

Crystallized Chorus can be melted into Liquid Chorus and cast back. A Block of Crystallized Chorus melts into 1,000 Liquid Chorus, and the same amount casts back into a block. A Crystallized Chorus Chunk can be cast too, and the pack changed that recipe.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/id/crystalized_chorus_chunk

Performance and safety settings
- The ingredient network observer checks changed positions at a frequency between 5 ticks (core.general.ingredientNetworkObserverFrequencyMin) and 40 ticks (core.general.ingredientNetworkObserverFrequencyMax), as set in this pack's config.[4]
- Observer multithreading is on (core.general.ingredientNetworkObserverEnableMultithreading), with 4 threads (core.general.ingredientNetworkObserverThreads).[4]
- core.general.recreateCorruptedNetworks is on, so corrupted networks are restored on the first tick.[4]
- If a network crashes the game, you can temporarily turn on core.general.safeMode, which stops networks ticking so you can fix them. It is off in this pack's config.[4]
- core.general.tickUnloadedNetworkElements is off here, so network elements do not tick when their chunk is unloaded.[4]
- Operator recursion is limited to 256 levels (core.general.operatorRecursionLimit).[4]
- The Delayer's history holds at most 1024 values (machine.delay.maxHistoryCapacity).[4]
- The network diagnostics web server port is set to 3030 (general.general.diagnosticsWebServerPort).[4]
How do you progress through IntegratedDynamics?
6 parts
In this pack's quest book, the Integrated Dynamics chapter sits in the Tech Mods group as chapter 25 of 31, and it has 40 quests. It opens with "Welcome to Integrated Dynamics!" quest, which asks you to get a Menril Sapling, grow it, and break the tree down for logs and berries. After that the quests follow the order below: Menril first, then power, then chorus, with the networking and programming quests branching off along the way.[2]
Tier 1: Menril
The first quest asks for a Menril Sapling, a Menril Log and Menril Berries. The quest text also points you to the guidebook On the Dynamics of Integration if you get stuck, and describes it as going in-depth into the more complex mechanics of the mod.[2][3]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: integrateddynamics:crafting/on_the_dynamics_of_integration
The pack adds sifting recipes where dirt run through a cloth mesh or an iron mesh can give you a Menril Sapling.[3]
Tier 2: Squeezer and Drying Basin
Both "Extracting Menril" quest and "Drying Basin" quest come right after the welcome quest. The quest says you use the Squeezer by using the item directly on it, then jumping on the center of its top face until something pops out. To reset it, you give it a redstone signal with something like a button or pressure plate. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's version.[2][3]

"Early Menril Automation" quest shows how to stop jumping by hand. The quest has you set up 2 armor stands above the Squeezer so they fall onto it, and reset it with a vanilla or modded redstone clock. Per the quest, squeezing Menril Logs into a Drying Basin also increases the Crystallized Menril you get per tree.[2]
There are other routes to the same material. Casting turns 900 Menril Resin into a Block of Crystallized Menril, and melting a block gives the 900 back. A Productive Bees centrifuge recipe turns 50 Menril Resin into a Crystallized Menril Chunk plus wax.[3]
Tier 3: Crystallized Menril, power and cables
"Crystallized Menril" quest asks for a Block of Crystallized Menril and a Crystallized Menril Chunk. A block converts to 9 chunks, and the quest says that once you have a few blocks you can get started on the basics of I.D. Two quests come after it: the Energy Battery and Networks.[2][3]
The quest says the Energy Battery can store a base of one million RF, and that you can craft it with other batteries to combine their capacity. The pack changed its recipe.[2][3]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: integrateddynamics:crafting/energy_battery
"Networks" quest introduces the Logic Cable, which the quest calls the pipes of the mod. Anything connected to a Logic Cable is considered part of a network, and you can hide cables with a Facade. The pack changed the cable recipe, which makes 3 cables per craft.[2][3]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: integrateddynamics:crafting/cable
Networks also leads to the Wrench quest and the Part Connector Mono Directional quest. The quest says the mono-directional connector can connect two networks in a straight line up to 512 blocks away, and warns that it can cause large amounts of tps lag if used often.[2]
Tier 4: Powered machines
"Upgrading Menril Extraction" quest comes after the Energy Battery quest. It asks for the Mechanical Squeezer and the Mechanical Drying Basin. The quest says they are functionally the same as the basic versions but give extra resources when processing. The pack changed the Mechanical Squeezer recipe, while the Mechanical Drying Basin keeps the mod's recipe.[2][3]

Tier 5: Crystallized Chorus
"Crystallized Chorus Chunks" quest follows the powered machines. The quest calls Crystallized Chorus Chunk a key resource for advanced network components, obtainable from Popped Chorus Fruit, which is made by smelting chorus fruits. The other route is Proto Chorus, which you squeeze down. It does not guarantee a chunk, but it provides Liquid Chorus, which can be converted into Crystallized Chorus Blocks.[2]

In the foundry, melting one Popped Chorus Fruit gives 450 Liquid Chorus, a chunk melts into 100, and a block melts into 1,000. Casting a chunk costs 100 Liquid Chorus plus a Nugget Cast, and the pack changed that recipe. Casting a block costs 1,000.[3]
After chorus comes "Logic Director" quest, where the quest says the Logic Director is used to craft advanced network components. In the quest book it is followed by "Omni-Directional Connector" quest and the world interaction components.[2]
The programming path
- "Interacting With Your Network" quest comes after Networks. In the quest book, Interfaces add storage blocks like chests or tanks to your network, and the Importers and Exporters, Storage Terminal, Readers & Writers and Offset enhancement quests all come after it.[2]
- "Variable Card" quest comes after Importers and Exporters. It is followed by "Logic Programmer" quest, "Reading Data" quest and "Variable Store" quest, and the Variable Store is followed by "Materializer" quest.[2]
- "Autocrafting With I.D" quest comes after the Storage Terminal and is followed by "Crafting Writer" quest.[2]
- "World Interaction Components" quest comes after the Logic Director. The fluid, energy, block and item component quests follow it, and "Player Simulator" quest comes after the block and item ones.[2]
The quest says the Logic Programmer is one of the places where you can change the value of your Variable Cards. It has a mod recipe, and you can convert it to the portable version and back.[2][3]
You also meet this mod in the Getting Started chapter. The quest "Ship Issues" quest says the Void Boat can break if you assemble it facing a different direction than it started, and that you fix it using the wrench from the quest reward.[7]
How does IntegratedDynamics work with other mods?
4 parts
Integrated Dynamics reaches into other mods mostly through its menril and chorus materials. In the pack's quest book it sits in the Tech Mods group, as chapter 25 of 31. The links below come from in-pack recipes that use items from both mods.[2][3]
Companion parts: tunnels, terminals and crafting
Parts from Integrated Tunnels, Integrated Terminals and Integrated Crafting all have in-pack recipes that use Integrated Dynamics items. That covers Part Interface Item, Part Importer Item and Part Exporter Item, as well as Part Terminal Storage and the Portable Storage Terminal. Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use IntegratedDynamics?
4 parts
The quest book lists Integrated Dynamics in three places. The main one is its own chapter, in the Tech Mods group (chapter 25 of 31, 40 quests). It also has one quest in the Logistics chapter and a mention in one Getting Started quest.[2][7][9]
The Integrated Dynamics chapter: Menril first
According to the quests' prerequisites, the chapter starts with Menril, then moves on to power, chorus and the Logic Director.[2]
- "Welcome to Integrated Dynamics!" quest opens the chapter. Its tasks are a Menril Sapling, a Menril Log and some Menril Berries.[2]
- Two quests list it as their prerequisite. "Extracting Menril" quest has the task Squeezer, and "Drying Basin" quest has the task Drying Basin.[2]
- Both of those come before "Early Menril Automation" quest, whose text describes automating the Squeezer with armor stands and a redstone clock, and "Crystallized Menril" quest, which has the tasks Block of Crystallized Menril and Crystallized Menril Chunk.[2]
- Crystallized Menril is the prerequisite for two quests. "Energy Battery" quest has the task Energy Battery, and "Networks" quest has the tasks Logic Cable and Facade.[2]
- "Upgrading Menril Extraction" quest has the Energy Battery quest as its prerequisite and its tasks are Mechanical Squeezer and Mechanical Drying Basin.[2]
- "Crystallized Chorus Chunks" quest follows the mechanical machines quest. Its tasks are Block of Crystallized Chorus and Crystallized Chorus Chunk. After it comes "Logic Director" quest, with the task Logic Director.[2]
Branching from Networks
The Networks quest is the prerequisite for several branches. "Wrench" quest has the task Wrench. "Mono-Directional Connector" quest has the task Part Connector Mono Directional, which its text says can connect two networks in a straight line up to 512 blocks away. "Omni-Directional Connector" quest has the task Part Connector Omni Directional and comes after the Mono-Directional Connector and the Logic Director quests.[2]
"Interacting With Your Network" quest also comes after Networks. Its task accepts an item, fluid or energy interface from the Integrated Tunnels add-on. These quests list it as a prerequisite:[2]
- "Understanding Interfaces" quest, a checkmark quest whose text explains the Part Settings and Offset Settings screens.[2]
- "Importers and Exporters" quest, which asks for importers and exporters. Its follow-ups are "Understanding IO Interfaces" quest and "Variable Card" quest, which has the task Variable Card.[2]
- "Part Enhancement: Offset" quest, which has the task Part Enhancement: Offset.[2]
- "Storage Terminal" quest, which is followed by "Autocrafting With I.D" quest and then "Crafting Writer" quest.[2]
- "Readers & Writers" quest, a checkmark quest that is followed by the readers and writers quests.[2]
Readers, writers and variables
Readers & Writers unlocks six quests: "Writing Sounds & Effects" quest, "Reading Networks & Machines" quest, "Writing Redstone" quest, "Reading World Information" quest, "Reading Inventories" quest and "Reading Entities" quest. The quest also warns that the Entity, Inventory and Machine Writers need add-ons that are not installed in this pack, so you can't use them here.[2]
The Variable Card quest is the prerequisite for three more. "Reading Data" quest has the task Part Display Panel. "Logic Programmer" quest has the tasks Logic Programmer and Portable Logic Programmer, and is followed by "Filter Examples" quest. "Variable Store" quest has the task Variable Store, and is followed by "Materializer" quest, which has the task Materializer.[2]
The Logic Director quest is also the prerequisite for "World Interaction Components" quest. Its follow-ups are "World Fluid Components" quest, "World Energy Components" quest, "World Block components" quest and "World Item Components" quest. The last quest in the chapter is "Player Simulator" quest, which comes after the block and item components quests.[2]
Elsewhere in the quest book
The Logistics chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 9 of 31, 57 quests) has its own "Integrated Dynamics" quest quest. Its tasks are the Wrench, the Logic Cable and the Variable Card, and its text describes the mod as an advanced option for taking control of logistics. The text of 42 of that chapter's quests is not shown here, so check the quest book for the rest.[9]
Getting Started (group Main Questline, chapter 4 of 31) has "Ship Issues" quest. Its text says the Void Boat can break if you assemble it facing a different direction, because Integrated Dynamics only keeps a relative block offset. The quest reward is a Wrench, and the quest walks you through resetting the saved offsets.[7]
Which IntegratedDynamics config options matter?
6 parts
Almost everything for IntegratedDynamics lives in one file, config/integrateddynamics-common.toml. Below are the options you are most likely to touch, with the values this pack sets. The file only shows what the pack uses, so I can't tell you which of these differ from the mod's own defaults.[4]
Network energy
- In the pack's config file, general.general.energyConsumptionMultiplier is set to 0. The file describes it as the energy usage multiplier for networks.[4]
- The file still fills in the per-part base consumption options. For example the mono-directional connector is 32, the omni-directional connector is 128, the variable store is 4, and the proxy and delayer are 2 each. Most readers and writers are 1, and the static and dynamic light panels are 0.[4]
- In the pack's config file, core.general.energyRateLimit is 2,147,483,647, described as the maximum network energy transfer rate.[4]
Power blocks
- The file sets machine.coal_generator.energyPerTick to 20, the energy production rate of the coal generator in RF/t.[4]
- The file sets machine.energy_battery.capacity to 1,000,000 as the default capacity of an energy battery. The fraction of that capacity allowed to transfer per tick comes from machine.energy_battery.energyRateCapacityFraction, which is 2000, and the minimum rate is 2000 per tick (machine.energy_battery.minEnergyRate).[4]
- The file gives the mechanical squeezer and the mechanical drying basin each an energy capacity of 100,000 and a consumption rate of 80. The squeezer's auto-eject rate is set to 500 mB per tick.[4]
Parts and ranges
- The file sets machine.general.maxPartOffset to 32 blocks, and machine.general.maxDirectionalConnectorOffset to 512 blocks, the offset a directional connector can look for its target.[4]
- The file sets general.general.partsMinimumUpdateInterval to 1 tick, and general.general.partMinimumUpdateIntervals is empty, so the file lists no per-part minimum interval.[4]
- The file sets core.general.operatorRecursionLimit to 256. Its stated purpose is to avoid crashes when you build things like the omega operator.[4]
Fixing broken networks
core.general.safeMode is off. If a network is crashing your game, turning it on temporarily stops networks from ticking and stops values from being shown and evaluated, so you can fix the problem. core.general.recreateCorruptedNetworks is on, so corrupted networks are restored on the first tick.[4]
The file sets core.general.tickUnloadedNetworkElements to false, so the option that makes network elements tick regardless of whether their chunk is loaded is not switched on in this pack.[4]
Performance
- In the pack's config file, the ingredient network observer is set to be multithreaded with 4 threads. Its observation frequency is set between 5 ticks (fastest) and 40 ticks (slowest).[4]
- The file sets core.general.cacheCableModels and machine.cable.dynamicShape both to true. The config note for dynamic shape says to disable it if FPS issues would occur.[4]
- The file sets general.general.partOverlayRenderdistance to 15. The config note says the higher it is, the more resource intensive it is.[4]
Book and extras
- In the pack's config file, the info book is not obtained automatically on first spawn (item.on_the_dynamics_of_integration.obtainOnSpawn is false), and it cannot give item rewards for tutorial completion (item.on_the_dynamics_of_integration.bookRewards is false).[4]
- The file sets item.menril_berries.nightVision to true, so Menril berries give night vision when eaten. It sets worldgeneration.menril_log_filled.filledMenrilLogChance to 10, and the config note says the higher this value, the lower the chance that Menril wood is filled with resin when generated.[4]
- The file sets core.general.versionChecker to false and core.general.analytics to true.[4]
