What is Replication?
1 part
Replication is a tech mod about copying resources of similar types. You can turn dirt into stone, but you can't turn dirt into diamonds. This pack ships version 1.21.1-1.2.7, and the mod needs Titanium to run.[1][2]
The loop is simple. You break items down into matter with a Disintegrator, and the matter goes into Matter Tank blocks. An Identification Chamber scans items and stores their matter values on chips, and those chips live in a Chip Storage so the whole network can use them. Then you request an item at the Replication Terminal, and Replicator machines spend tank matter to build it from scratch and send it back to the terminal.[1][3]
Matter Network Pipe blocks tie it all together. They carry power and matter between your machines. A Replicator can also run in Infinite Mode, where it keeps replicating until its inventory is full or the matter runs out.[1][3]
Where it sits in the quest book
The Replication quests are in the "Generating Resources" chapter, which is chapter 8 of 31 in the book and belongs to the "Resources & Logistics" group. The chapter has 99 quests and covers many ways to farm resources, so Replication shares it with other mods. Most of those quests are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[4]
The Replication line starts at "Welcome to Replication!" quest, which asks for Raw Replica and Replica Ingot. "Matter Networks" quest comes right after it, and everything else branches off that one:[4]
- "Matter Tank" quest comes after Matter Networks, and "Disintegrator" quest follows it.[4]
- "Identification Chamber" quest comes after Matter Networks. "Memory Chip" quest follows it, then "Chip Storage" quest.[4]
- "Viewing Your Network" quest covers the terminal and also comes after Matter Networks.[4]
- "Replicator" quest comes after Matter Networks, and "Replicator Enclosure" quest follows it.[4]
The Welcome quest tells you how to get started: drip polymorphic fluid onto Kivi so it turns into Replica Ore, or find Replica Ore among the floating islands.[4]
How do you get started with Replication?
5 parts
Replication lets you break items down into matter and then rebuild items of a similar type from it. Everything starts with one material, the Replica Ingot, so that is where we begin. The pack's quest book covers this in the "Generating Resources" chapter (group "Resources & Logistics", chapter 8 of 31), starting with "Welcome to Replication!" quest.[3][4]
Step 1: Get Replica Ore and make ingots
The first quest tells you to drip polymorphic fluid onto Kivi so it turns into Replica Ore, or to find Replica Ore among the floating islands. The pack's dripper recipe for Deepslate Replica Ore needs 250 polymorphic fluid sources. The pack also lists it as an output of the titanium quarry recipe in Modern Industrialization.[4][5]
Once you have Raw Replica, smelt it into an ingot. A blasting version exists too.[5]
Nine ingots also compress into a Replica Block, and the block turns back into ingots when you need them.[5]

Step 2: Connect and store matter
Next is the Matter Network Pipe, which "Matter Networks" quest unlocks. Pipes link your Replication machines. They carry power to every machine on the network as long as one pipe is receiving power, and they move matter into any available tank. One craft gives you 8 pipes.[4][5]

Step 3: Scan items
The Identification Chamber reads an item's matter value and saves it to a Memory Chip. The item is consumed once its reading reaches 100%. Each chip holds the values of up to 16 items.[4]

A Chip Storage makes your chips available to the whole network. If you place it on top of the Identification Chamber, scanned patterns go straight into it with no chip needed in the chamber. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own.[3][4][5]

Step 4: Request and build items
The Replication Terminal shows all the matter and replication blocks on your network. You use it to request, cancel and track replication jobs, and finished items come out in its bottom rows.[4]

Last, the Replicator builds the requested item from the matter in your tanks. The pack changed this recipe too. It also has an infinite mode that keeps replicating until its inventory is full or the matter runs out.[3][4][5]

Later: speeding things up
The Replicator Enclosure is an optional upgrade. The quest book says it adds 20% speed for 10% more energy. The pack changed ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_SPEED_MULTIPLIER to 0.1 (the mod default is 0.8), so trust the in-game tooltip for the speed you actually get.[4][6][7]

How does Replication work?
7 parts
Replication is built around a simple idea: you break items down into matter, then rebuild items from that matter. It only works between resources of similar types, so you can turn dirt into stone, but you can't turn dirt into diamonds.[3]
The matter loop
- Feed an item that has matter values into a Disintegrator. It turns the item into matter.[3]
- Scan items in an Identification Chamber. It learns their matter values and stores them in chips.[3]
- Keep those chips in a Chip Storage, and their patterns become available to the network.[3]
- Open the Replication Terminal and request the item you want.[3]
- Replicator machines take the matter stored in Matter Tank blocks, build the item from scratch and send it back to the terminal.[3]
There is a handy shortcut: if you place a Chip Storage on top of the Identification Chamber, the scanned patterns go straight into the Chip Storage, so you don't need a chip inside the chamber.[3]
Pipes, power and matter
Matter Network Pipe connects your Replication machines and automates the busywork. It carries power, working like any power pipe. It also carries matter, moving it from the Disintegrator to Matter Tanks and from Matter Tanks to the other machines that need it.[3][6]
These are the values this pack uses for the machine and pipe settings. They all match the mod defaults.[7]
- Matter Tank capacity (ReplicationConfig.MatterTank.CAPACITY): 256,000.[7]
- Disintegrator internal tank (ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.TANK_CAPACITY): 16,000. Power usage (ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.POWER_USAGE): 1,500. Max progress (ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.MAX_PROGRESS): 40.[7]
- Pipe power transfer (ReplicationConfig.MatterPipe.POWER_TRANSFER): 2,560.[7]
Scanning items
The Identification Chamber has a fast mode and a slow mode. Fast mode is much faster, but the item can be consumed on each action. Slow mode takes longer, but the item is only consumed when the scan reaches 100%. If you can't afford to lose the item, slow mode is the safe choice.[6]
In this pack the chamber uses a power usage of 5,000 (ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.POWER_USAGE) and a max progress of 100 (ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.MAX_PROGRESS), both the mod defaults. The config notes that the progress shown in game will be double the configured value. ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.IDENTIFICATION_PROGRESS is set to 0.5, also the default.[7]
Replicators
A Replicator can run in Infinite Mode, where it keeps replicating a resource until the output is full or it runs out of matter. You set that mode in the Replicator's GUI.[3]
The pack leaves the Replicator's max progress (ReplicationConfig.Replicator.MAX_PROGRESS) at 100 and its power tick (ReplicationConfig.Replicator.POWER_TICK) at 80, both the mod defaults. As with the chamber, the progress shown in game will be double the configured max.[7]
The pack changed the crafting recipes for the Replicator and the Chip Storage, so use these versions.[5]

Speeding a Replicator up
The Replicator Enclosure is added by Sneak + Right-Clicking the Replicator. The in-game guide describes it as a passive 20% acceleration for 10% extra power consumption.[3]
The pack changed the enclosure's speed multiplier (ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_SPEED_MULTIPLIER) to 0.1, down from the mod default of 0.8. The power multiplier (ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_POWER_MULTIPLIER) stays at 1.1.[7]
The Replicator Motor is also added by Sneak + Right-Clicking the Replicator. It lets you set a speed multiplier, where 100% is the default speed and 20% is as fast as it can go. The faster you run, the higher the chance of a failed print. A failed print just runs again, and it doesn't use any more matter. To get a motor, craft the Matter Blueprint, use it in the Chip Storage, and then you can replicate the motor.[3][6]

Terminal and MatterOpedia
In the Replication Terminal you can sort by amount or by display name, in ascending or descending order. A tooltip tells you that Sneak + Click cancels a task.[6]
The MatterOpedia is a searchable list of which items hold which matter values. Open it with the button on the left of the terminal's search bar, or by clicking the matter displays on the right of the terminal. In its search bar you can use:[3]
- Any matter name, to list every item that has that matter.[3]
- earth>10, to list items with more than 10 earth.[3]
- nether=20, to list items with exactly 20 nether.[3]
- quantum<6, to list items with less than 6 quantum.[3]
- !earth, to list items that don't have earth.[3]
- *metallic, to list items that only have metallic.[3]
The client options ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_MATTER_TOOLTIP_VALUES_OUTSIDE_TERMINAL and ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_PRESS_SHIFT_TEXT control the tooltips. Both are true in this pack, so item tooltips show a hint to hold a key to see matter values.[6][7]
How matter values are worked out
The mod calculates matter values from crafting recipes, so modded items don't need hand-written values. Pack makers can still add, change or remove values with datapacks. They can also block an item from being scanned or from being disintegrated with the tags replication:cant_be_scanned and replication:cant_be_disintegrated.[1]
The pack tightened the recipe calculation. Max recipe depth (ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_RECIPE_DEPTH) is 9, down from the mod default of 11, and setting it to 0 disables the calculation. Max visited recipes (ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_VISITED_RECIPES) is 25, down from 50.[7]
Recipes from the mods listed in ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.IGNORED_RECIPE_MODS are ignored, and the pack lists ae2qolrecipes there. ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.SUBTRACT_CRAFTING_REMAINING_ITEM is true, so an item with a crafting remainder, like the milk buckets in the cake recipe, has the remainder's matter value subtracted.[7]
How do you progress through Replication?
6 parts
In this pack, Replication is a chain of quests in the Generating Resources chapter. That chapter sits in the Resources & Logistics group, as chapter 8 of 31 in the book. The chain starts with "Welcome to Replication!" quest, and everything else hangs off "Matter Networks" quest. It's a sequence of steps rather than numbered tiers, so here it is in order.[4]
Step 1: Get some Replica
The first quest asks for Raw Replica and Replica Ingot. The quest says you can drip polymorphic fluid onto Kivi to turn it into Replica Ore, or find Replica Ore among the floating islands.[4]
The pack also adds its own dripper recipe: 250 polymorphic fluid sources become Deepslate Replica Ore. The pack changed the Modern Industrialization quarry recipe for the Titanium Drill too, and Deepslate Replica Ore is now one of its outputs.[5]
Dripper (ftbstuff)
Recipe id: ftb:ftbstuff/dripper/deepslate_replica_ore
Raw Replica turns into a Replica Ingot in a furnace, and a blasting recipe works as well. The pack also lets Neovitae replica dust be smelted or blasted into Replica Ingots. Nine ingots compress into a Replica Block, and nine Raw Replica compress into a Raw Replica Block.[5]
Step 2: Build the matter network
Matter Network Pipe connect your Replication machines and share their processes across the network. They pass power to every machine on the network as long as one pipe is receiving power, and they send matter to any available Matter Tank.[4]

After this quest the book branches into four: Matter Tank, Identification Chamber, Replication Terminal and Replicator.[4]
Step 3: Store matter and break items down
The Matter Tank stores matter taken from disintegrated blocks. It fills itself from any matter on the same network, and you can lock it in its interface to accept only the matter type already inside.[4]

Step 4: Scan items and store the patterns
The Identification Chamber scans the matter value of an item and writes it to a Memory Chip. The item is scanned slowly, and once 100% of its matter reading is on the chip, the item is consumed. A Memory Chip holds matter values for up to 16 items.[4]

Speeding the Replicator up
The "Replicator Enclosure" quest quest comes after the Replicator. The Replicator Enclosure makes it 20% faster at the cost of 10% more energy consumption. You add it by sneaking and right-clicking the Replicator.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: replication:replicator_enclosure
The Replicator Motor is another speed option, added the same way. It lets you set a speed multiplier where 100% is the default speed and 20% is the fastest. The faster you go, the higher the failure chance, but a failed print doesn't use any more matter when it reruns. The in-game guide says to craft the Matter Blueprint, use it in the Chip Storage, and then replicate the motor.[3]

The recipe lists both the blueprint and the Replicator Motor as results.
How does Replication work with other mods?
3 parts
In this pack, Replication connects to other mods mostly through recipes. The pack adds some of them to give you more ways to get replica materials, and the mod itself ships a couple of bridges to storage networks.[5]
Getting replica materials from other mods
The pack adds a dripper recipe that turns 250 Polymorphic Fluid Source into Deepslate Replica Ore. The quest book points you to the same idea: drip polymorphic fluid onto Kivi so it transforms into Replica Ore, or find Replica Ore among the floating islands.[4][5]
Dripper (ftbstuff)
Recipe id: ftb:ftbstuff/dripper/deepslate_replica_ore
The pack also changed the Modern Industrialization titanium quarry recipe. With a Titanium Drill, it can give you Deepslate Replica Ore alongside Fluorite Ore, Iridium Ore and Uranium Ore.[5]
There is one more way to get ingots. The pack adds both smelting and blasting recipes that turn Replica Dust into Replica Ingot.[5]
Storage network bridges
Two other mods have a bridge item that is crafted from their own parts plus Replication items. For Applied Energistics 2 it is the ME Replication Connector, and for Refined Storage 2 it is the Replication RS2 Bridge. Both are mod recipes, not pack changes.[5]

In the quest book
The Replication quests live in the "Generating Resources" chapter, in the "Resources & Logistics" group (chapter 8 of 31). The chapter starts your Replication line with "Welcome to Replication!" quest, and "Matter Networks" quest comes right after it. The chapter has 99 quests in total and covers other resource mods too, so check the quest book for the rest of the details.[4]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Replication?
3 parts
Replication has its own little quest line inside the "Generating Resources" chapter, which is chapter 8 of 31 in the book and sits in the "Resources & Logistics" group. That chapter has 99 quests and covers many other farming mods too, so the Replication quests are one branch among several. The branch has 10 quests, and each one unlocks after the quest before it.[4]
The starting point
"Welcome to Replication!" quest is where it all begins. It asks you to get Raw Replica and a Replica Ingot. The quest says you get Replica Ore by dripping polymorphic fluid onto Kivi so it transforms, or by finding some among the floating islands.[4]
Next comes "Matter Networks" quest, which asks for a Matter Network Pipe. The pipes connect your Replication machines and share their processes across the network. They pass power to every machine in the network as long as one pipe is receiving power, and they send matter to any available Matter Tanks.[4]
Four quests after Matter Networks
Once Matter Networks is done, four quests open up at the same time, so you can take them in whatever order suits your build.[4]
- "Matter Tank" quest asks for a Matter Tank. It stores matter disintegrated from blocks and fills automatically from any matter available in the same network. You can lock a tank in its interface so it only accepts the matter type already inside.[4]
- "Identification Chamber" quest asks for an Identification Chamber. It scans the Matter value of items and stores it on Memory Chips. The item is scanned slowly until 100% of its reading is stored, and then it is consumed.[4]
- "Viewing Your Network" quest asks for a Replication Terminal. The terminal shows all the Matter and replication blocks in your network, and you use it to request, cancel or view replication requests. Finished requests come out in its bottom rows.[4]
- "Replicator" quest asks for a Replicator. Its infinite mode keeps replicating a resource until the inventory is full or the Matter runs out. To leave infinite mode, remove the item from the infinite mode slot.[4]
Following each branch
- After the Matter Tank, "Disintegrator" quest asks for a Disintegrator. It breaks items down into Matter, and different things give different amounts and types. It has an internal tank, but the quest advises storing Matter in Matter Tanks anyway.[4]
- After the Identification Chamber, "Memory Chip" quest asks for a Memory Chip. Each chip can store Matter values for up to 16 items.[4]
- After the Memory Chip, "Chip Storage" quest asks for Chip Storage. These blocks hold your Memory Chips and make them available in the network.[4]
- After the Replicator, "Replicator Enclosure" quest asks for a Replicator Enclosure. According to the quest, it raises the Replicator's speed by 20% and its energy consumption by 10%.[4]
The Chip Storage quest comes last on the scanning side, and the Replicator Enclosure is the end of the replicator side. The Disintegrator ends the tank side.[4]
Which Replication config options matter?
4 parts
Most of Replication's options sit at the mod defaults in this pack. Only a few values were changed, and they cover how matter values get calculated and how Replicator enclosures behave. Everything lives in config/replication/replication.toml.[7]
Values the pack changed
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_RECIPE_DEPTH is 9 in this pack. The mod default is 11. The file's own comment says setting it to 0 disables the recipe calculation.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_VISITED_RECIPES is 25 in this pack. The mod default is 50.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_SPEED_MULTIPLIER is 0.1 in this pack. The mod default is 0.8. It accepts values from 0.0 to 1.0.[7]
The first two options belong to the recipe calculation group. Replication works out matter values for modded items from their crafting recipes, so you don't need a datapack entry for each one, and this pack lowered both of those limits from the mod's defaults.[1][7]
Recipe calculation settings left alone
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.IGNORED_RECIPE_MODS is set to ["ae2qolrecipes"]. Recipes from mods on this list are ignored when matter values are calculated.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.SUBTRACT_CRAFTING_REMAINING_ITEM is true. For an item with a crafting remaining item, like the milk buckets in the cake recipe, the matter value of the remaining item is subtracted from the calculation.[7]
Machine settings at the mod default
These are the numbers you'll plan your setups around. The pack has not touched any of them.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.Replicator.MAX_PROGRESS is 100, and ReplicationConfig.Replicator.POWER_TICK is 80. The file notes that the progress shown in game will be double the max progress value.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_POWER_MULTIPLIER is 1.1.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.MAX_PROGRESS is 40, ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.POWER_USAGE is 1,500 and ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.TANK_CAPACITY is 16,000.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.MAX_PROGRESS is 100 (again shown doubled in game), ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.POWER_USAGE is 5,000 and ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.IDENTIFICATION_PROGRESS is 0.5.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.MatterPipe.POWER_TRANSFER is 2,560, and ReplicationConfig.MatterTank.CAPACITY is 256,000.[7]
Client options
Both client options are on. ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_MATTER_TOOLTIP_VALUES_OUTSIDE_TERMINAL is true and ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_PRESS_SHIFT_TEXT is true.[7]
What changed in Replication between versions?
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Replication 1.21.1-1.2.7. The mod has been in the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for essentially its whole history.[2]
The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there are no pack-specific changes to Replication to report.[2]
Unverified The notable changes between Replication releases come from the mod's own changelog, and the details of that changelog were not available to this guide. Until they are confirmed, treat any specific changes to Replication as unverified.
