What is Excessive Utilities?
2 parts
Excessive Utilities is a modern remake of Extra Utilities, built from scratch with features from both Extra Utilities 1 and 2. It covers a lot of ground: Unstable Ingots and their tools, the Depths and Last Millennium dimensions, 6 types of Angel Ring, a fully configurable Grid Power system, the Quantum Quarry and the Ender Quarry, Filing Cabinets, Trash Cans, Drums, and Transfer/Retrieval Nodes. It also has 16 levels of compressed blocks.[1]
This pack includes version 1.9.0 of the mod.[2]
The generators
The mod adds 16 FE generators, plus the Rainbow Generator. The pack's quest book has a quest for each of them: Furnace Generator, Survivalist Generator, Overclocked Generator, Magmatic Generator, Heated Redstone Generator, Culinary Generator, Explosive Generator, Pink Generator, Frosty Generator, Ender Generator, Potions Generator, Slimy Generator, Death Generator, Disenchantment Generator, Halitosis Generator and Nether Star Generator.[1][3]
Each of those generator quests notes that the generator is used for the Rainbow Generator!. Its own quest says it produces 5 Million FE/t when ALL other Excessive Utilities generators are consuming power. The book still calls it a Mid-Game generator, because the only real complexity is automating the 16 other generators.[3]
Where it sits in the quest book
The generator quests live in the "Power Generation" chapter, in the "Resources & Logistics" group. It is chapter 10 of 31 in the book and has 41 quests. The chapter covers most of the ways to generate power, so Excessive Utilities shares it with generators from other mods such as Modern Industrialization, Mekanism and Draconic Evolution.[3]
The chapter is laid out in rows, with notes describing Early Generators, Mid Game Generators and Late Game Generators. The Rainbow Generator quest ("Rainbow Generator" quest) comes after the quests for all 16 of the other Excessive Utilities generators, so work through those first. Two quests in this chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for them.[3]
How do you get started with Excessive Utilities?
6 parts
Excessive Utilities is a modern remake of Extra Utilities, and in this pack the first thing you meet is its generators. The quest book's "Power Generation" chapter (in the "Resources & Logistics" group, chapter 10 of 31) lays them out in rows: early generators that help you create your first few machines, mid game generators that give you a base for more advanced automation, and late game generators. The Rainbow Generator is counted in the mid game tier.[1][3]
Step 1: Survivalist Generator
First up is the Survivalist Generator. It burns regular furnace fuels (a quest in "Power Generation"). It only makes 5 FE per tick (machines.fe_generators.survivalistGeneratorFePerTick), but fuel lasts 100 times longer than in a normal furnace (machines.fe_generators.survivalistGeneratorBurnTimeMultiplier). The pack changed this recipe, so check it here rather than from memory:[3][4][5]

Step 2: Furnace Generator
Next comes the Furnace Generator, which also burns regular furnace fuels (a quest in "Power Generation"). It makes 40 FE per tick (machines.fe_generators.furnaceGeneratorFePerTick), and fuel burns 2.5 times longer than in a regular furnace (machines.fe_generators.furnaceGeneratorBurnTimeMultiplier).[3][4]
Step 3: Culinary Generator
The Culinary Generator consumes food items (a quest in "Power Generation"). The pack changed its recipe too:[3][5]

Recipe id: excessive_utilities:culinary_generator
Step 4: Overclocked Generator
The Overclocked Generator also takes regular furnace fuels (a quest in "Power Generation"). Its recipe in this pack is a miniaturization recipe, and the pack changed it.[3][5]
Miniaturization (compactcrafting)
Recipe id: excessive_utilities:overclocked_generator
Step 5: Disenchantment Generator
The Disenchantment Generator consumes enchanted books. The quest recommends using an Enchanter to make Knowledge of the Ages III (a quest in "Power Generation"). Its recipe is added by the pack:[3][5]
Molecular Metamorphosis (cognition)
Magical Wood
Rainbow Stone
- Disenchantment Generator
Enchanting Table
Recipe id: ftb:cognition/molecular_metamorphosis/disenchantment_generator
The goal: Rainbow Generator
Every one of these generators is also used for the Rainbow Generator!. The quest ("Rainbow Generator" quest) follows the other generators in the chapter, including the Pink, Frosty, Ender and Potions Generators. It says the Rainbow Generator produces power when all the other Excessive Utilities generators are consuming power, so the real work is automating all 16 of them.[3]
Miniaturization (compactcrafting)
Recipe id: excessive_utilities:rainbow_generator
The pack changed this recipe, so use the one shown here.
The quest text says 5 Million FE/t, but the pack's config sets machines.fe_generators.rainbowGeneratorFePerTick to 10,000,000. The mod default is 25,000,000, so the pack changed it. Trust the config value.[3][4]
How does Excessive Utilities work?
5 parts
Excessive Utilities is a modern remake of Extra Utilities, and its systems fall into a few groups: FE generators, Grid Power, two kinds of quarry, and storage and transport blocks. This section walks through how each one behaves in this pack, using the pack's own config values.[1]
FE generators and machines
The mod has 16 FE generators plus the Rainbow Generator. The Rainbow Generator is the one the pack changed: it produces 10,000,000 FE per tick while active, down from the mod default of 25,000,000. You can find the value at machines.fe_generators.rainbowGeneratorFePerTick. The other generator values below match the mod defaults.[1][4]
- Furnace Generator: 40 FE per tick while active, and fuel burns 2.5 times longer than in a regular furnace.[4]
- Survivalist Generator: only 5 FE per tick, but fuel lasts 100 times longer than in a regular furnace.[4]
- Overclocked Generator: burns 40 FE for each tick the item would have burned in a furnace.[4]
- Death Generator: applies the Doom effect within 3 blocks while active. Nether Star Generator: applies Withering II within 10 blocks while active. Stand clear of both.[4]
The mod's electric Furnace uses 20 FE per tick while active and needs 100 ticks to finish a recipe.[4]
The Heating Coil is an FE battery that doubles as furnace fuel. It stores up to 1,500,000 FE. Burning it in a furnace costs 50 FE and lasts 20 ticks.[4]
Resonator (excessive_utilities)
Recipe id: excessive_utilities:resonator/heating_coil
Wireless FE Transmitters link to blocks up to 4 blocks away and send 80 FE per tick.[4]
Grid Power
Grid Power (GP) is measured in GP rather than FE. Producers generate it, and certain items and machines occupy some of it while they are in use. The producers and their output in this pack:[1][4]
- Solar Panel: 1 GP when it can see the sun. Lunar Panel: 1 GP when it can see the moon.[4]
- Water Mill: 4 GP per side with flowing water adjacent. Lava Mill: 2 GP when lava is adjacent. Fire Mill: 4 GP when fire is below it.[4]
- Manual Mill: 15 GP per player cranking it. Dragon Egg Mill: 500 GP with a Dragon Egg on top. Creative Mill: 10,000 GP.[4]
On the usage side, these are the amounts of GP occupied while each thing is in use:[4]
- Flying with an Angel Ring occupies 64 GP (grid_power.gp_usage.angelRingGpCost).[4]
- A Ring of the Flying Squid occupies 16 GP (grid_power.gp_usage.flyingSquidRingGpCost).[4]
- A Chicken Wing Ring occupies 1 GP (grid_power.gp_usage.chickenWingRingGpCost).[4]
- A piece of Red Coal burning in a furnace occupies 4 GP (grid_power.gp_usage.redCoalGpCost).[4]
- Red Coal burns 8 times longer than regular coal in a furnace (grid_power.gp_usage.redCoalBurnTimeMultiplier).[4]
- Each Wireless FE Transmitter connection occupies 1 GP (grid_power.gp_usage.wirelessFeTransmitterGpCostPerConnection).[4]
Quarries
The mod has two quarries. The Ender Quarry mines up to 0.5 blocks per tick and uses 10 FE per block. It looks up to 1,000 blocks away for its markers, and its fence perimeter can use at most 100,000 fence blocks. The Quantum Quarry is far hungrier: it mines up to 2 blocks per tick at 20,000 FE per block.[4]
Ender Quarry upgrades change both speed and FE drain. The multipliers are below.[4]
- Speed I, II and III mine 1.5, 2 and 3 times faster. They drain 1, 1.5 and 2 times more FE.[4]
- Fortune I, II and III drain 5, 20 and 80 times more FE.[4]
- Silk Touch drains 1.5 times more FE. World Hole has a cost multiplier of 1, so it adds no extra cost.[4]
Storage and transport
Drums store fluids. Their capacities in millibuckets are below.[4]
- Stone Drum: 16,000[4]
- Iron Drum: 256,000[4]
- Reinforced Large Drum: 4,096,000[4]
- Demonically Gargantuan Drum: 65,536,000[4]
- Bedrock Drum: 1,048,576,000[4]
The Filing Cabinet holds up to 270 items. The Filing Cabinet (Advanced) holds up to 540.[4]

Recipe id: excessive_utilities:advanced_filing_cabinet
Transfer and Retrieval Nodes can move items, fluids and energy along the same pipes. The Flat variants move 1 item per tick and 50 millibuckets of fluid per tick. Conveyor Belts move entities at 0.1 blocks per tick.[1][4]
Multiblock and pack-specific changes
The pack adds its own FTB Constructor multiblock. It takes items, fluids and energy through hatches, and its layered shape includes Ender-Flux Crystals from this mod. Separately, the QED looks for Ender-Flux Crystals within a radius of 4 blocks (machines.qedRadius).[4][6]
The pack also gives Octuple Compressed Cobbled Deepslate and Octuple Compressed Cobblestone a much higher destroy speed through a startup script. The script's comment explains why: particle accelerator dampeners need a hardness above the particle's speed, or the particle destroys the block and keeps going.[7]

How do you progress through Excessive Utilities?
6 parts
In this pack, Excessive Utilities progression is mostly about power. The mod's generators are covered in the quest chapter "Power Generation" (group "Resources & Logistics", chapter 10 of 31 in the book), and nearly all of them feed into one goal: the Rainbow Generator!.[3]
How the quest book splits power into tiers
The chapter has three checkmark quests that label its rows of generators. The Rainbow Generator is the one Excessive Utilities generator the book names in a tier, and it places it in the mid game.[3]
- Early Generators: a row meant to help you build your first few machines. Some can be scaled up, while others you will want to set aside quickly for better options.[3]
- Mid Game Generators: two rows that give you good infrastructure for more advanced automation and machinery. The Rainbow Generator is included in this tier.[3]
- Late Game Generators: the final row, giving you the most power for advanced late-game setups.[3]
The generators you need for the Rainbow Generator
The Rainbow Generator quest comes after 16 other Excessive Utilities generator quests. Each of those quests says what its generator consumes:[3]
- Furnace Generator, Survivalist Generator and Overclocked Generator all consume regular furnace fuels.[3]
- Magmatic Generator consumes Lava, and Heated Redstone Generator consumes Lava and Redstone Dust.[3]
- Culinary Generator consumes food items, and Potions Generator consumes potions.[3]
- Explosive Generator consumes TNT or Gunpowder, and Ender Generator consumes Ender Pearls or Eyes of Ender.[3]
- Nether Star Generator consumes Nether Stars or firework stars, and Halitosis Generator consumes Dragon's Breath.[3]
- Pink Generator consumes pink dyes and blocks, Frosty Generator consumes icy blocks, and Slimy Generator consumes slime balls and milk.[3]
- Death Generator consumes some mob drops, and Disenchantment Generator consumes enchanted books. The quest recommends using an Enchanter to make Knowledge of the Ages III for it.[3]
The Rainbow Generator
The Rainbow Generator produces 5 million FE/t when all the other Excessive Utilities generators are consuming power. The quest book says it looks daunting but counts as a mid-game generator, because its only real complexity is automating the 16 other generators.[3]

Changed by the pack. It is a miniaturization recipe (Compact Crafting type).
Generator recipes the pack changed
Several generator recipes differ from the mod's own. The pack changes the Survivalist, Culinary, Magmatic and Overclocked Generator recipes. The Overclocked Generator is a miniaturization recipe here. The Disenchantment Generator recipe is added by the pack and uses a Molecular Metamorphosis crafting type.[5]

The Division Sigil and Unstable Ingots
The mod's other early step is in the "Getting Started" chapter (Main Questline, chapter 4 of 31). The a quest in "Getting Started" quest comes after "Proper Materials" quest and asks for the Division Sigil and Lapis Caelestis (Light Gray). The quest says Division Sigils turn up very rarely in loot, can be bought from the shop, and drop from the Ender Dragon after you reach the end. Its most common use is making Unstable Ingots, and the quest points you to the Division Sigil GuideMe for how. Some quests in that chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[8]

The pack also changes the Semi-Unstable Nugget recipe, which is made with the Division Sigil.[5]

The Bedrockium Drum
The Bedrockium Drum appears in the "Pina Colada" chapter (Main Questline, chapter 6 of 31). Its quest a quest in "Pina Colada" says it holds a massive amount of fluid, making it a good vessel for the Bedrockium Cup. "Bedrockium Mug" quest comes after it, along with Industrial TNT and Polonium Quantized Bamboo Plating.[9]
The pack adds a foundry casting recipe for the Bedrockium Ingot. It uses 90 Molten Bedrockium and an Ingot Cast. The drum itself uses the mod's standard crafting recipe.[5]

How does Excessive Utilities work with other mods?
4 parts
Excessive Utilities mostly stands on its own, but a handful of its items are woven into recipes from other mods in this pack. The main threads are bedrockium, compressed cobblestone, and a few special materials like the Magical Apple and the Drop of Evil.[5]
Bedrockium
Productive Metalworks can melt a Block of Bedrockium into 810 Molten Bedrockium, or a Bedrockium Ingot into 90. Casting the fluid with an Ingot Cast gets you an ingot back. Melting an Octuple Compressed Cobblestone gives 810 of a different fluid, Molten Impure Bedrockium.[5]

Compressed cobblestone
The cobblestone generators from FTB Stuff are built on compressed cobblestone. The Stone Cobble Generator uses a Compressed Cobblestone, while the iron, gold, diamond and netherite versions each have their own recipe built on a Double Compressed Cobblestone and a matching plate.[5]

The iron, gold and netherite generators follow the same pattern with their own plate.
The pack also raises the destroy speed of the eighth level of compressed cobblestone and of compressed cobbled deepslate. The script comment says this is for particle accelerator dampeners: a dampener's hardness must exceed the particle's speed, otherwise the particle destroys the block and keeps going.[7]
Materials and gear
- Hellforged Ingot: an Oritech particle collision recipe added by the pack makes 2 of them, and the Demon Ingot is one of its inputs.[5]
- Blessed Apple: an Actually Additions empowering recipe added by the pack, and the Magical Apple is one of its inputs.[5]
- Worm Scarf: a Malum spirit infusion recipe added by the pack, which uses the Evil Infused Iron Ingot.[5]
- Evil Tear: the pack changed this recipe, and it now uses the Drop of Evil.[5]
- Nature's Compass: the pack changed this recipe so it is made from the Magical Snow Globe.[5]

In the quest book, the generators sit in the Power Generation chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 10 of 31). The "Rainbow Generator" quest quest comes after the 16 other generator quests. It says the Rainbow Generator produces 5 Million FE/t when all the other Excessive Utilities generators are consuming power.[3]
That chapter also covers power from other mods. "Power & You" quest explains that FE and RF are the same, and that Modern Industrialization's EU converts to RF/t at 1:10. Next to the generators you will find "LV Diesel Generator" quest and "LV Steam Turbine" quest from Modern Industrialization, Mekanism's "Solar Panels" quest and "Wind Generator" quest, and the Create-based a quest in "Power Generation".[3]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Excessive Utilities?
4 parts
Excessive Utilities shows up in four quest chapters. In book order they are Getting Started, Pina Colada, Power Generation and Bounty Board. The big one is Power Generation, where the whole generator line-up lives.[3][8][9][10]
Getting Started (Main Questline, chapter 4 of 31)
Your first contact is a quest in "Getting Started", which asks for the Division Sigil and Lapis Caelestis (Light Gray). It unlocks after Proper Materials. The quest says Division Sigils turn up very rarely in loot, can be bought from the shop, and drop from the Ender Dragon once you reach the End. Its most common use is making Unstable Ingots, and the quest points you to the Division Sigil GuideMe for how.[8]
The next step in the chapter is a quest in "Getting Started", which comes after a quest in "Getting Started", a quest in "Getting Started" and the Division Sigil quest. In the same chapter, "The Start of Power" quest tells you to check the Power Generation chapter to learn about the different ways to generate power.[8]
Pina Colada (Main Questline, chapter 6 of 31)
a quest in "Pina Colada" asks for the Bedrockium Drum. The quest describes it as holding a massive amount of fluid, which makes it a good vessel for the Bedrockium Cup.[9]
That quest feeds into "Bedrockium Mug" quest, which unlocks after a quest in "Pina Colada", the Drum and a quest in "Pina Colada". The Mug then leads on to "Piña Colada" quest, the final quest of that chain.[9]
Power Generation (Resources & Logistics, chapter 10 of 31)
This chapter has 41 quests covering most ways to generate power. The checkmark quests split it into rows: Early Generators, Mid Game Generators and Late Game Generators. The Excessive Utilities generators sit in the Mid Game rows, together with the Rainbow Generator.[3]
Each generator quest asks you to have that generator, and each one says it is used for the Rainbow Generator. Here is what each one consumes, according to its quest:[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": regular furnace fuels.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": regular furnace fuels.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": regular furnace fuels. It consumes its fuel once every tick, so the quest recommends controlling the power output if you use it for the Rainbow Generator.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": Lava.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": Lava and Redstone Dust.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": food items.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": pink dyes and blocks.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": TNT or Gunpowder.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": Ender Pearls or Eyes of Ender.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": enchanted books. The quest recommends using an Enchanter to make Knowledge of the Ages III.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": Nether Stars or firework stars.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": icy blocks.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": potions.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": Dragon's Breath.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": some mob drops.[3]
- a quest in "Power Generation": slime balls and milk.[3]
All of those lead into "Rainbow Generator" quest, which asks for the Rainbow Generator!. It unlocks after every generator quest above. The quest says it produces 5 Million FE/t when ALL other Excessive Utilities generators are consuming power. It is still called a Mid-Game generator, because the only real complexity is automating all 16 other generators.[3]
Bounty Board (Exploration & Combat, chapter 11 of 31)
The last stop is "Unstable Ingot Blocks" quest, which asks for the Unstable Ingot Block. It has no description text of its own. The chapter intro, "The Bounty Board" quest, says the chapter holds repeatable quests that earn extra cash to spend at the shops.[10]
Which Excessive Utilities config options matter?
5 parts
Good news: this pack leaves almost every Excessive Utilities option at the mod default. Only two server options were changed, and both are worth knowing about before you plan a build.[4]
Values the pack changed
- general.tlmChunkDistance is 100 in this pack. The mod default is 1,024. It sets how many chunks sit between each player's home location in The Last Millennium.[4]
- machines.fe_generators.rainbowGeneratorFePerTick is 10,000,000 in this pack. The mod default is 25,000,000. That is how much FE per tick the Rainbow Generator produces while active.[4]
Quarries
The quarry options are all at the mod default. The Ender Quarry mines up to 0.5 blocks per tick and uses 10 FE per block. The Quantum Quarry mines up to 2 blocks per tick and uses 20,000 FE per block. See machines.ender_quarry.enderQuarryBlocksPerTick, machines.ender_quarry.enderQuarryFePerBlock, machines.quantum_quarry.quantumQuarryBlocksPerTick and machines.quantum_quarry.quantumQuarryFePerBlock.[4]
Ender Quarry upgrades also keep their defaults. Speed I, II and III make it mine 1.5, 2 and 3 times faster, and drain 1, 1.5 and 2 times more FE. Fortune I, II and III multiply the drain by 5, 20 and 80, and Silk Touch multiplies it by 1.5.[4]
Power and flight
- The Furnace Generator makes 40 FE per tick and burns fuel 2.5 times longer than a regular furnace. The Survivalist Generator makes 5 FE per tick but burns fuel 100 times longer.[4]
- Grid Power sources are at the mod default: Solar Panel 1 GP, Lunar Panel 1 GP, Manual Mill 15 GP per player cranking it, and Water Mill 4 GP per side with flowing water.[4]
- Ring GP costs are at the default too: the Angel Ring occupies 64 GP while flying, the Flying Squid Ring 16 and the Chicken Wing Ring 1.[4]
- The Chicken Wing Ring lasts 200 ticks and takes 100 ticks to recharge. The Ring of the Flying Squid lasts 300 ticks and takes 200 ticks to recharge.[4]
Spawn control and farming
- The Chandelier stops monster spawns in a 16 block radius, and the Magnum Torch in a 64 block radius.[4]
- The Watering Can covers a radius of 3, ticks each block with a 0.3 chance, and uses 10 mB of water per tick. The Reinforced Watering Can covers a radius of 5, uses a 0.5 chance, and also uses 10 mB per tick.[4]
- Fluid drum capacities are at their defaults: the Stone Drum holds 16,000 mB and the Iron Drum holds 256,000 mB.[4]
Structures and client options
Ancient cities from the mod are enabled in this pack. Their placement uses a spacing of 96 and a separation of 72, set in the structure placement config file.[11][12]
The client file is mostly cosmetic. disableVomit is false, so vomit particles stay on, and generatorParticleDensity is at its default of 1. soundMufflerRadius is 8.[13]
What changed in Excessive Utilities between versions?
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships with Excessive Utilities 1.9.0. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it is one of the long-standing mods you'll find here.[2]
Unverified The mod's own changelog has entries for 1.9.0, 1.8.0, 1.7.1 and 1.7.0, but their contents weren't available, so I can't say what changed in each release. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod, so there are no pack-specific changes to report.
