What is Oritech?

2 parts

Oritech is an open-source tech mod with animated machinery. Its machines are mostly animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them with addon blocks. The content includes processing machines, lasers that mine blocks automatically, item, fluid and energy pipes, drones, cybernetic player augmentations and particle accelerators.[1]

This pack includes Oritech 1.2.12.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book gives Oritech its own chapter in the "Tech Mods" group, and it is the second to last chapter in the book. Some of the chapter's quests are not covered in this guide, so check the quest book itself for them.[3]

How the chapter flows

Tip: The Foundry quest calls the Foundry key for progression, since it makes the alloys needed for Oritech machines. Place the Foundry block first, right-click it to see where the Machine Cores go, then right-click again to finalize the machine.[3]

How do you get started with Oritech?

7 parts

Oritech is built around multiblock machines, and the pack's quest book gives you a clear order to follow. The Oritech chapter sits in the Tech Mods group and opens with "Welcome To Oritech!" quest. Work through it in order and you won't get lost.[3]

Step 1: Get nickel

The first quest asks for a nickel ingot. To get started, it says you'll need Raw Nickel, which it calls the main crafting material for the mod.[3]

Step 2: Machine Cores and a Motor

Next comes "Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" quest. The quest says Oritech is all about multiblock machines, most of which use Machine Cores, and it also asks for a Motor. It lists 7 tiers of core, and says each tier raises how many addons a machine can take. To get you started, it says to make either of the first two tiers. The first one is Primitive Machine Core.[3]

This is the recipe for the Primitive Machine Core, your first core.

Tip: You can check how many cores a machine needs by reading its tooltip.[3]

Step 3: The Foundry

"The Foundry" quest asks for the Foundry, which the quest calls key for progression and describes as the machine for making the alloys needed for Oritech machines. It says the multiblock takes 3 Machine Cores in total. Place the Foundry first, right-click it to see where the cores go, then right-click again once they are in place to finish the machine. The quest adds that some of these alloys can also be made by hand or in other modded machines, but that often consumes more resources.[3]

Step 4: Power

The Basic Generator is a simple way to get power going. The pack changed its recipe, so follow the one below and not what you remember from the mod's defaults.[4]

The pack also changed the generator's output. machineSettings.generators.basicGeneratorData.energyPerTick is 64 here (the mod default is 32), and machineSettings.generators.basicGeneratorData.maxEnergyExtraction is 512 (the mod default is 256).[5]

To move power around you'll want Energy Pipe. The pack changed this recipe too.[4]

Energy pipes move 10,000 per tick, which is the mod default and is set by logistics.energyPipeTransferRate.[5]

Step 5: Pulverizer and Centrifuge

Two simple machines come straight after the cores in the quest book. "It's Crushing Time" quest asks for the Pulverizer, which the quest says makes dusts and biomass, and that in the early game it is also the best way to get Enderic Compound. "Spin To Win" quest asks for the Centrifuge, which the quest says separates and transforms specific items. For now, the quest wants you to use it to make Carbon Fiber Strands.[3]

With the Fluid Addon the Centrifuge can also separate fluids. The pack raised its fluid tank to 64 buckets (the mod default is 8), set in machineSettings.processingMachines.centrifugeData.tankSizeInBuckets.[3][5]

Step 6: Assembler and addons

After the Foundry, "The Assembler" quest asks for the Assembler. The quest says it has a 2x2 crafting grid and assembles items automatically as long as it has energy, items in the input slots and space in the output slot. It adds that some machine components can be crafted without an Assembler, but doing so consumes more resources.[3]

"Machine Customization!" quest introduces addons. The quest says they attach to specific sides of a machine, or to a Machine Addon Extender, where each extender gives you more sides to attach addons to. It also points you to the Addon GUI in the machine's interface to see which sides can accept an addon.[3]

Where to go next

In the quest book, "The Power Of The End" quest and "Nuclear Reactor Control Panel" quest both follow The Assembler. The first covers the Enderic Laser, which its quest says is primarily used to create Fluxite, and the second is the start of the reactor quests. The Atomic Forge comes after the Flux Gate quest, and the Particle Accelerator quest comes after that.[3]

How does Oritech work?

7 parts

Oritech is a tech mod built around animated multiblock machines that you upgrade with addon blocks. It covers processing machines, generators, item, fluid and energy pipes, automated farming, lasers, drones and a particle accelerator. Its design goal is that most things can be made in more than one way, and that most resources can be renewed with big automated setups.[1]

Machines and addons

In this pack machineSettings.additiveAddons is on, so addon bonuses are added together instead of multiplied. machineSettings.layeredExtenders is off, so the number of machine extenders you can use is the direct amount and does not depend on machine core quality. Machine frames can be chained up to 64 blocks (machineSettings.processingMachines.machineFrameMaxLength).[5]

The advancement for the Ultimate Machine Core says it lets you add excessive addons.[6]

All of these match the mod defaults. Here is how the Capacitor Addon is crafted:[4][5][7]

Power generation

The pack makes several generators stronger than the mod defaults. Here is what the config sets for energy per tick and maximum extraction:[5]

Steam is set up differently from the mod defaults too. Steam engines only accept the fluid named in machineSettings.generators.steamId, which is Mekanism's steam in this pack. The pack changed these steam values:[5]

The pack also adds fuel generator recipes for fluids from other mods. Each added recipe takes 100 of the fluid, and its time is the fuel's rating multiplied by 50 and rounded. Fluids that Oritech already covers, such as its own heavy oil and turbo fuel, are skipped.[8]

Moving energy, fluids and items

There is only one pipe tier for each type. Pipe blocks only have block entities where they connect to machines, and networks are cached, which keeps them light on performance.[1]

The pack changed the recipe for the Energy Transmission Pole:[4]

Changed by the pack.

If you turn a pipe into an Energy Pipe Duct, you can get the Energy Pipe back like this:[4]

Energy PipeMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: oritech:crafting/unduct_energy

For storage, the small energy storage holds 1,000,000 and moves 5,000 in or out, while the large energy storage holds 20,000,000 and moves 10,000. Portable tanks hold 256 buckets.[5]

Processing machines

Each processing machine has its own recipe type, so a recipe made for the pulverizer will not work in the centrifuge. The config sets these energy values per tick, with the maximum insertion rate in brackets:[4][5]

  • Pulverizer: 32 (256 insertion), 25,000 capacity.[5]
  • Powered furnace: 32 (256 insertion), 10,000 capacity, and a speed multiplier of 0.5 relative to vanilla.[5]
  • Centrifuge: 64 (512 insertion), 10,000 capacity. The pack raised its fluid tank to 64 buckets (default 8).[5]
  • Foundry and assembler: 128 each (1,024 insertion), 50,000 capacity.[5]
  • Fragment forge: 256 (2,048 insertion), 50,000 capacity.[5]
  • Refinery: 64 (512 insertion), 50,000 capacity.[5]
  • Industrial chiller: 32 (256 insertion), 50,000 capacity.[5]

The pack adds its own assembler recipes through a helper script, and when a recipe does not set a time it uses 96 ticks.[9]

Adamant is a good example of how the chains connect. The pulverizer turns the ingot into dust:[4]

The pack adds a smelting route for turning the dust back into an ingot, alongside the mod's own blasting recipe:[4]

Fluid machines work the same way. This pack-added centrifuge recipe produces nuggets and Mineral Slurry:[4]

The atomic forge handles the more advanced parts, like the Advanced Computing Engine:[4]

The grinder is the route for farming-based materials such as biomass:[4]

Reactor

The pack reworked the reactor numbers a lot compared to the mod defaults:[5]

Watch out: reactor.safeMode is off in this pack. With it on, an overheated reactor would enter a cooldown instead of exploding, so watch your heat.[5]

Particle accelerator

The accelerator is built from a controller, linear motors, guide rings and sensors. The pack changed the recipe for the Particle Accelerator Guide Ring:[4][6]

Changed by the pack.

The pack's startup script raises the destroy speed of the compressed cobblestone 8 and compressed cobbled deepslate 8 blocks from Excessive Utilities to a very high value. Its comment explains these are accelerator dampeners: their hardness must exceed the particle speed, or the particle destroys the block and keeps going.[10]

The black hole block now needs a tool to break, with a destroy speed of 5.0. Using the correct tool makes it drop itself. Black holes pull in things within 16 blocks.[5][10][11]

Mining and world machines

The Bedrock Extractor uses 1,024 RF per work step and needs 20 steps per ore, with 20,000 energy capacity. The Enderic Laser has a 128 block range, uses 128 per tick and stores 20,000. Its base cost to break a block is 1,024 RF.[5][6]

The mod normally spawns bedrock ore nodes and oil wells to encourage auxiliary bases. This pack replaces these world generation biome modifiers with an empty one: the common resource node, the oil spring, the desert oil spring and the end platinum ore. Whether other sources of nodes or oil exist in this pack is not shown in the data. worldGeneration.easyFindFeatures is off, so oil wells and nodes show no marker on the surface.[1][5][12][13][14][15]

How do you progress through Oritech?

6 parts

The pack's quest book gives Oritech its own chapter in the "Tech Mods" group. The chapter is a tree: it opens by asking for nickel and Machine Cores, then branches into processing machines, addons, the Enderic Laser, the reactor and finally the Atomic Forge.[3]

Start: nickel and Machine Cores

The first quest, "Welcome To Oritech!", asks for a Nickel Ingot and says Raw Nickel is the main crafting material for the mod. "Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" follows and asks for any Machine Core plus a Motor.[3]

The quest says there are 7 tiers of core, from Primitive Machine Core up to Ultimate Machine Core, and that each tier increases the number of addons a machine multiblock can carry. For now it suggests making either of the first 2 tiers, and it says a machine's tooltip tells you how many cores it needs.[3]

Early machines

Several quests follow straight after the cores quest. The Pulverizer quest calls it a simple machine for dusts and biomass, and the best early-game way to get Enderic Compounds. The Centrifuge quest describes a simple machine that separates and transforms specific items, and also asks for the Fluid Addon, which lets it separate fluids. For now, the quest suggests using the Centrifuge to make Carbon Fiber Strands.[3]

The Foundry quest calls it key for progression and says it creates the alloys needed for Oritech machines. It asks you to build it from 3 Machine Cores: place the block, right-click it to see where the cores go, then right-click again to finalize. The Assembler quest comes right after it. It says the Assembler crafts items automatically while it has energy, input items and room in the output slot, and that some components can be crafted without it but at a higher resource cost.[3]

Off the Centrifuge quest the book also offers the Cybernetic Augmentation Center, which the quest says lets you install cybernetic Augmentations into your body, and the Refinery, which the quest says processes fluid mixtures.[3]

Addons

The "Machine Customization!" quest asks for the Machine Addon Extender. The quest says addons attach to specific sides of a machine, and each Extender gives you more sides for addons. Separate quests follow for the Redstone Control Unit, Quarry, Acceptor, Capacitor, Speed, Efficiency and Hunter addons. The Yield addon quest comes later, after "The Power Of The End".[3]

The pack changes the Acceptor Addon recipe.[4]

Mid game: Enderic Laser, reactor and generators

Once you have the Assembler, the chapter splits in two. "The Power Of The End" asks for the Enderic Lens, the Enderic Laser and the Target Designator. The quest says the Enderic Laser is primarily used to create Fluxite, but can also transfer RF wirelessly or mine blocks.[3]

Assembler (oritech)

After the laser, the book continues with the Fluxite and Flux Gate quest, the Enderic Railgun (Enderic Railgun) quest and the Fuel Generator quest. That quest describes the Fuel Generator as a 3x3x2 multiblock that consumes oil-like fluids to generate power.[3]

The other branch from the Assembler starts with the Nuclear Reactor Controller (Nuclear Reactor Control Panel). The quest calls reactors a great way to generate large amounts of power and says they burn Uranium or Plutonium Pellets. Follow-up quests ask for heat vents and heat pipes, reactor rods, heat absorbers, reactor walls, and the energy and redstone ports.[3]

A reactor can be up to 16 blocks per direction. The quest suggests starting with a 5x5x5 so it cools properly. Each Reactor Energy Port outputs up to 25,000 RF/t. The pack also changes the Reactor Heat Pipe recipe, and the Reactor Heat Absorber recipe is marked as changed too.[3][4]

Watch out: The reactor design quest warns that if a fuel rod stays above 2000°C for a long period, it overheats and triggers a nuclear meltdown. Warning sirens engage before it gets there, and a bigger reactor with more rods makes a bigger explosion.[3]

Late game: Atomic Forge and beyond

The Atomic Forge comes after the Flux Gate quest. It needs 8 Machine Cores, and energy pipes cannot connect to it, so an Enderic Laser has to power it wirelessly. It makes advanced chips, reinforces deepslate and can duplicate ores. It is also how you get Uranium Gems for reactor fuel, and the pack changes that recipe.[3][4]

After the Atomic Forge the book offers three quests. "Soul Enchanting" asks for the Stabilized Enchanter and the Arcane Catalyst. "Particle Accelerator" asks for the Particle Accelerator, and further quests ask for guide rings, motors, sensors and Tachyon Absorbers. "Prometheum" asks for the Prometheum, which the quest says can only be produced in an Atomic Forge and is essential for the Ultimate Machine Core.[3][4]

After "Soul Enchanting" the book asks for "Collecting Souls" and then "Spawning Mobs", which asks for the Spawner Controller and Spawner Cage. "The Tainted Refinery" follows both the Refinery quest and Soul Enchanting.[3]

Oritech in other chapters

Two quests in the "Power Generation" chapter use Oritech. "Steam Power!" follows the "Ore of the Eclipse" quest and asks for the Steam Boiler Addon and Steam Engine. "Black Hole Power" follows Prometheum and uses the Black Hole with a Tachyon Absorber. It can make up to 50,000 RF each time the Black Hole consumes a block.[16]

The main "Pina Colada" questline also pulls Oritech in. It uses the Refinery to get Strange Matter from lava, and the Black Hole to extract Liquid Antimatter.[17]

Watch out: Do not build a Black Hole setup inside a Compact Machine. The room does not tick reliably while you are outside it, so your block placer falls behind and the Black Hole eats your setup.[16][17]

How does Oritech work with other mods?

6 parts

Oritech does not live on its own in this pack. Its machines read from and write to Create, Ender IO, Productive Metalworks, Mekanism, Modern Industrialization, Applied Energistics 2 and PneumaticCraft, and the pack adds its own recipes on top. Here is where those links show up.[1][4]

Pack metals inside Oritech recipes

Nickel is the starting point. The first quest asks for Nickel Ingot and calls raw nickel the main crafting material of the mod. The Deep Drill recipe turns an Nickel Resource Node into Raw Nickel, so the nickel you get is the FTB Materials one.[3][4]

The pack also changed a lot of Oritech crafting to use FTB Materials metals (electrum, steel and nickel) and any plastic plate. These three are good examples:[4]

The pack also overrides four of Oritech's world generation biome modifiers (oil spring, desert oil spring, End platinum ore and common resource nodes) with an empty neoforge:none entry.[12][13][14][15]

Alloys across machines

The Foundry quest says some alloys can also be crafted by hand or in other modded machines, but that usually costs more resources. The pack shows this clearly:[3]

Plastic and fuels

Oritech's Centrifuge makes PneumaticCraft's Molten Plastic from Polymer Resin. Both routes were changed by the pack. The water route gives 2 sheets, and the mineral slurry route gives 4. Plastic plates are an ingredient in many Oritech recipes, so this link matters early.[4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The Oritech chapter is in the Tech Mods group, chapter 30 of 31, with 38 quests. It runs from "Welcome To Oritech!" quest to "Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" quest, then "The Foundry" quest and "The Assembler" quest. Many of the other quests in the chapter are in the quest book itself.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Oritech?

5 parts

Oritech has its own chapter in the quest book, and a few quests in other chapters ask for its items too. The Oritech chapter sits in the Tech Mods group, as chapter 30 of 31, and has 38 quests. Its early quests are written as starter steps, and the chapter then branches into addons, reactors, lasers and the Particle Accelerator.[3]

The Oritech chapter: the starting path

  1. "Welcome To Oritech!" quest is the entry point. It asks for a nickel ingot, and the quest text says Raw Nickel is the main crafting material of the mod.[3]
  2. "Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" quest asks for any Machine Core plus a Motor. The quest text says there are 7 tiers of core and that each tier raises the number of addons a machine can take. For now, it says, either of the first 2 tiers is enough to get you started.[3]
  3. Four quests follow it: "The Foundry" quest (Foundry, which the quest text says is built with 3 Machine Cores), "Machine Customization!" quest (Machine Addon Extender), "It's Crushing Time" quest (Pulverizer) and "Spin To Win" quest (Centrifuge and Fluid Addon). For now, the Centrifuge quest points you at making Carbon Fiber Strands.[3]

Addons

After Machine Customization!, a row of addon quests follows. Each one asks for the addon item, and several also accept higher-tier versions of it from another mod.[3]

The Yield Addon comes later. "Machine Yield Addon" quest asks for the Yield Addon and follows The Power Of The End.[3]

Machines, lasers and reactors

  1. After Spin To Win, the book offers "Cybernetic Augmentation Center" quest (Cybernetic Augmentation Center) and a quest in "Oritech" (Refinery).[3]
  2. After The Foundry comes "The Assembler" quest (Assembler).[3]
  3. The Assembler quest leads to two branches. "The Power Of The End" quest asks for the Enderic Lens, the Enderic Laser and the Target Designator. "Nuclear Reactor Control Panel" quest asks for the Nuclear Reactor Controller.[3]
  4. After The Power Of The End you can pick up "Flux Gate" quest (Fluxite and Flux Gate), a quest in "Oritech" (Enderic Railgun) and a quest in "Oritech" (Fuel Generator).[3]

The reactor quests all follow the Nuclear Reactor Control Panel quest. They are "Designing Your Reactor" quest (Reactor Wall), "Reactor Rods" quest (rods, Reactor Fuel Port, Reactor Neutron Reflector and fuel pellets), "Heat Vents & Heat Pipes" quest (Reactor Heat Vent and Reactor Heat Pipe), "Reactor Heat Absorbers" quest (Reactor Heat Absorber and Reactor Coolant Absorber Port) and "Energy & Redstone Ports" quest (Reactor Energy Port and Reactor Redstone Port).[3]

Late chapter: Atomic Forge and beyond

"Atomic Forge" quest follows Flux Gate and asks for the Atomic Forge. The quest text says it needs 8 Machine Cores to build and has to be powered wirelessly by an Enderic Laser. Three quests follow it.[3]

Which Oritech config options matter?

4 parts

Oritech has a huge config, but most of it is left at the mod default in this pack. The values below are the ones the pack changed, so they are the ones that will surprise you if you know the mod from elsewhere. Everything lives in the oritech-common, oritech-startup and oritech-client files.[5][7][21]

Reactor

The reactor got the biggest rework. It is smaller, it runs hotter, and it pays out far more energy per pulse.[5]

Watch out: reactor.safeMode is false in this pack. With safe mode on, an overheated reactor would enter a cooldown instead of exploding, so here an overheated reactor really does explode.[5]

Generators and steam

Several generators produce more power per tick than the mod default. These are the pack's values, with the mod default in brackets.[5]

Steam engines only accept the fluid set in machineSettings.generators.steamId, which is "mekanism:steam" in this pack. machineSettings.generators.steamEngineData.stopOnEnergyFull and machineSettings.generators.steamEngineData.stopOnWaterFull are both false.[5]

Other changed values

Other settings worth knowing

Addon bonuses are additive, as machineSettings.additiveAddons is true, and machineSettings.layeredExtenders is false, so machine extenders count by their direct amount. The chainsaw can cut whole trees (equipment.chainsawTreeCutting is true), and worldGeneration.easyFindFeatures is false, so oil wells and bedrock ore nodes get no extra surface markers.[5]

In the startup file, the jetpack speeds, addon multipliers and electric mace costs all match the mod defaults. For example, exoJetpack.speed is 1.5 and electricMace.energyUsage is 2,048 RF per hit. In the client file, zipline settings such as maxZiplineSpeed (8) are default too, and showMachinePreview is true, so you get the multiblock placement preview.[7][21]

What changed in Oritech between versions?

3 parts

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Oritech 1.2.12 (the NeoForge 1.21.1 build). The mod has been in the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier. Here are the changelogs for the releases leading up to the one you're playing.[2]

Oritech 1.2.11

  • Multiblock and addon positions are now stored as relative positions (a backport). This improves compatibility with mods that move or relocate blocks.[22]
  • The portable railgun now has third person rendering (a backport).[22]
  • Fixes for some fluid transfer edge cases, and for fluid transfers on stacks larger than 1.[22]
  • Fixed the centrifuge still working on fluids after its addon was removed.[22]

Oritech 1.2.10

  • Fixed world generation breaking with the latest architectury version.[23]
  • Translations were updated from crowdIn.[23]

Oritech 1.2.9

  • Added a warning slider to the reactor UI.[24]
  • Improved the auto-feeder augment: it now ignores bad food and picks bad food in a better order.[24]
  • Fixed fluid extraction inconsistencies and issues on NeoForge.[24]
  • Fixed machine cores not handling explosions correctly.[24]

Unverified The changes in Oritech 1.2.12, the version this pack actually ships, and any pack-specific changelog entries for Oritech are not covered by the available sources.
