What is Irregular Implements?
2 parts
Irregular Implements is a modern remake of Random Things. Its project page says it currently targets Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. This pack includes version 1.12.0 of the mod.[1][2]
It is a big collection of utility blocks and tools. The mod's own description highlights a portable pocket dimension through the Spectre Key, convenience tools like the Escape Rope, Ender Bucket and Block Mover, and teleportation with the Ender Bridge, Ender Anchor and Portable Ender Bridge. It also has item automation through 12 different Plates, plus dozens of redstone blocks, several of them wireless.[1]
A few things you will run into
- Plates mostly move entities around, especially item entities, which makes them handy for transport and sorting.[3]
- The Biome Radar is a multiblock structure that points you towards a biome once you insert a Biome Crystal. Biome Crystals can be found in dungeon chests.[4]
- The Block Breaker breaks the block in front of it with the equivalent of an Iron Pickaxe, and the Auto Placer places the block in its inventory in front of itself.[5][6]
- The Peace Candle stops hostile mobs from spawning around it, and you can switch it off with a Redstone signal.[7]
Where the quest book puts it
In this pack's quest book, the mod shows up in the "Getting Started" chapter. That chapter is in the "Main Questline" group, is chapter 4 of 31 in the book, and has 57 quests.[8]
Two of the quests shown ask for items from this mod. "The Nether" quest wants a Blaze and Steel, which you use to light your Nether portal. It comes after a quest in "Getting Started" and Gateway of the Hellish Fortress.[8]
"D.I.Y End Portal" quest wants an Evil Tear, which you use on the End Rod to begin opening the portal. It comes after VoidShimmer Goo and Enderman Gateway.[8]
The rest of that chapter's quests, 34 of the 57, are not covered here. Check the quest book in game for what they say.[8]
How do you get started with Irregular Implements?
3 parts
Irregular Implements doesn't show up right away in this pack. The first quests in the "Getting Started" chapter (Main Questline group, chapter 4 of 31 in the book) are about the Aero Scoop, water, dirt and clay. The mod's items first come into play when you set out for the Nether and the End.[8]
Step 1: Blaze and Steel
Your first real use of the mod is "The Nether" quest. It asks you to build a portal frame from at least 10 Obsidian and light it with Blaze and Steel. The quest unlocks after a Steel Ingot quest and "Gateway of the Hellish Fortress" quest.[8]
The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so check the one below rather than any older guide.[9]
Step 2: Evil Tear
The next stop is "D.I.Y End Portal" quest. You build the portal structure shown in the quest, then use the Evil Tear on the End Rod to start opening the portal. The quest comes after the VoidShimmer Goo quest and the Enderman Gateway quest. The pack changed this recipe too.[8][9]
Handy extras once you're set up
- Advanced Item Collector: the plain Item Collector sits on an inventory and grabs item entities within 3 blocks (a 7x7x7 cube). The Advanced version has a radius you can set from 0 to 10 blocks per axis, and it can take an Item Filter.[11]
- Basic Redstone Interface: sends the Redstone signal strength it receives to the block it's linked to. You link it with a Redstone Tool. The pack changed its recipe.[9][12]

How does Irregular Implements work?
7 parts
Irregular Implements is mostly small, single-block machines that you link together with plates, filters and redstone, plus a few structure-based features. The mod advertises 12 different Plates for moving, sorting and inserting items and entities, and this section walks through how the main systems work in this pack.[1][3]
Plates and item movement
Plates are your conveyor belts. They mostly exist to move entities around, and item entities in particular.[3]
- The Accelerator Plate speeds up anything moving on it, up to a limit, in whatever direction it is already going. The Directional Accelerator Plate instead pushes entities in the direction the plate faces.[13][14]
- The Collection Plate inserts any item entity that touches it into an adjacent inventory, if possible. It tries the adjacent inventories in a fixed order, starting with Down and ending with Up.[15]
- The Corrector Plate snaps entities to the center of the block, so they can only move straight along the middle of the X and Z axes.[16]
- The Redirector Plate has two active sides. An entity that walks onto one active side is teleported to the other. Right click to set the first side and sneak right-click to set the second.[17]
- The Item Rejuvenator Plate resets an item entity's despawn timer to 4 minutes and resets its age. The Item Sealer Plate stops items that touch it from being picked up for 30 seconds.[18][19]

Platforms are solid on top but not from the bottom or sides, and sneaking lets you fall through them. The Super Lubricant Platform also removes friction completely, which makes it great for moving items together with plates. The Filtered version accepts an Item Filter, and any item matching the filter falls through the platform.[20][21]
Collecting, breaking and placing
- The Item Collector sits on an inventory and collects item entities in a 3 block radius, which is a 7x7x7 cube centered on it.[11]
- The Advanced Item Collector works the same way, but its radius is configurable from 0 to 10 blocks, separately for X, Y and Z. You can also put an Item Filter in it so it only collects matching items.[11]
- An Item Filter holds a list of up to 9 items and can act as a whitelist or a blacklist for the whole filter. Each slot can match either the exact item or one of its tags.[22]
- The Block Breaker breaks the block in front of it with the equivalent of an Iron Pickaxe. The drops go into an inventory behind it or onto the ground, and a redstone signal disables it. Using a Diamond Breaker on it upgrades it to Diamond Pickaxe level, and enchantments on the Diamond Breaker apply when it breaks blocks.[5]
- The Auto Placer tries to place the block in its inventory in front of itself every tick that it has no redstone signal.[6]
- The Iron Dropper has three redstone modes: eject when pulsed, eject while powered, or eject always. You can also cycle the pickup delay through 20, 5 and 0 ticks, and toggle random velocity and particles and sounds.[23]
Energy
The Energy Distributor spreads FE evenly across the adjacent energy storage blocks in a line. Starting from the block in front of it, it checks each block in that direction and adds the ones with energy storage to its cache. Its storage is effectively all of those blocks combined, so inserting or extracting goes straight to them. The Ender Energy Distributor does the same job, but you choose the machines in the cache with 8 Location Filters.[25]

The mod's other big FE system is the Spectre Energy buffer. Every player has one, and it works like an Ender Chest but for FE. It holds up to 1,000,000 FE, set by spectre.capacity, and the pack leaves it at the mod default. The Spectre Energy Injector puts FE into your buffer and belongs to whoever placed it. You cannot extract from the Injector, so you use Spectre Coils or Spectre Chargers to get the energy back out.[26][27]
Spectre Coils pull energy wirelessly from your buffer. You place the coil directly on the machine you want to power. In this pack the transfer rates per tick are 1,024 for the basic coil (spectre.basicRate), 4,096 for the Redstone coil (spectre.redstoneRate) and 20,480 for the Ender coil (spectre.enderRate).[27][28]
Two special coils generate FE from nothing instead of pulling from your buffer. The Number coil makes 128 per tick (spectre.numberRate) and the Genesis coil makes 10,000,000 per tick (spectre.genesisRate). One of them can be found in dungeon chests, and the other is obtainable only by commands or creative mode.[27][28]
Spectre Chargers charge every chargeable item in your inventory from the buffer, including armor and equipped Curios. Each tier is faster than the last: 1,024 for Basic (spectre.chargerBasic), 4,096 for Redstone (spectre.chargerRedstone) and 20,480 for Ender (spectre.chargerEnder) in this pack. The Genesis charger is creative-only and does not use your buffer.[27][29]
Fluids
Pitcher Plants generate water. You can take it with a Bucket or any fluid-storage item, they periodically fill adjacent fluid tanks, and fluid pipes can extract from them. The pack leaves the fill amounts (random tick, clicked container, bone meal) and the pipe drain rate per tick at 100,000 each.[27][30]
The Ender Bucket picks up fluids from a distance. If you use it on a non-source fluid block, it finds the nearest source block and picks that up instead. The Reinforced version holds 10 buckets worth of fluid.[31]
Redstone wiring
The wireless blocks are linked with the Redstone Tool. Use it on the linkable block first, then on the block you want to link it to. While you hold the tool you can see lines between linked blocks nearby. It works on the Basic Redstone Interface, which sends its received signal strength to its linked block, and on the Redstone Observer, which copies the signal strength of its linked block.[12][32][33]

The pack's recipe dump marks this recipe as changed by the pack.
The Advanced Redstone Interface sends its signal strength to up to 9 linked blocks, and you link them by inserting Location Filters. The Advanced Redstone Torch has a configurable output strength for when it is powered and for when it is unpowered.[34][35]

- The Redstone Activator powers itself for a short time when used. Sneak right-click cycles the duration between 2, 20 and 100 ticks. The Redstone Remote does the same for up to 9 locations that you add with Location Filters.[36][37]
- Trigger Glass becomes non-solid for a short time when it gets a redstone pulse, and the effect spreads to connected Trigger Glass. In this pack it stays non-solid for 60 ticks (trigger_glass.triggerGlassDuration) and the effect spreads up to 20 blocks (trigger_glass.triggerGlassRange).[27][38]
- The Entity Detector emits a signal when a matching entity is in its area. You set the radius per axis, invert it, and pick the entity type, or use an Entity Filter in Custom mode.[39]
- The Inventory Tester sits on the side of an inventory, holds an item, and emits a signal when that inventory can accept the item from that side. It can be inverted in its GUI.[40]
Multiblocks, structures and teleportation
The Biome Radar is a multiblock structure that you build yourself. Put a Biome Crystal in it and the flames on the radar blow toward that biome, if one is found. You can also use a Location Filter on the radar to store the biome's location, then craft it with a Golden Compass to navigate there. In this pack the radar searches up to 6,400 blocks out, with a horizontal step of 32 and a vertical step of 64.[4][27]
Stonecutting
- any biome crystal
Recipe id: irregular_implements:biome_crystal_stonecutting/ars_elemental_cascading_forest
This stonecutting recipe for the Biome Crystal is added by the pack.
The Nature Core is a structure that generates in the world with a Nature Chest nearby. Every so often it can turn nearby sand into dirt or grass, spawn an animal, bone meal crops, plant saplings and repair its own structure. The pack cancels placing the Nature Core, so you cannot place one yourself. The pack also changed its animal spawn radius to 1 from the mod default of 8. Its crop bone meal radius is 25, its sapling radius is 16 and its block replace radius is 10.[27][41][42]
Ender Bridges teleport the entities standing on them to the Ender Anchor they face. This works through blocks over any distance, as long as the bridge looks directly at the anchor. The basic bridge takes 1 tick per block traveled and the Prismarine bridge takes 0.5 ticks per block. The Portable Ender Bridge looks for an anchor up to 300 blocks away in this pack (portableEnderBridgeRange).[27][43][44]
The Block Teleporter swaps the block in front of one teleporter with the block in front of another when the second one is powered. You link them by saving a teleporter's position into a Location Filter and inserting it into the other. The in-game guide says cross-dimension teleporting defaults to true, but this pack's config (blockTeleporterCrossDimension) has it set to false.[27][45]
Area effect blocks
- The Peace Candle stops hostile mobs from spawning around it. The pack's radius is 1 chunk, which makes a 3x3 chunk area, and a redstone signal disables it.[7][27]
- The Rain Shield stops rain falling in a 5 chunk radius in this pack, and a redstone signal disables it.[27][46]
- The Slime Cube spawns Slimes around it while unpowered and prevents them while powered. The pack's radius is 0, meaning only the chunk it sits in.[27][47]
How do you progress through Irregular Implements?
7 parts
Irregular Implements shows up in three quests in this pack's quest book, and the pack has changed a good number of its recipes. So your progression with it is a mix of those quests and the changed recipes below. Here is how it plays out.[8][9][48]
Where the quest book uses it
- "The Nether" quest is in the Getting Started chapter (group Main Questline, chapter 4 of 31). It asks for Blaze and Steel, obsidian and entering the dimension. It comes after the Steel Ingot quest and "Gateway of the Hellish Fortress" quest, and the portal frame needs at least 10 obsidian.[8]
- "D.I.Y End Portal" quest is in the same chapter and asks for Evil Tear, an end rod and end stone. It comes after a quest in "Getting Started" and "Enderman Gateway" quest. You use the Evil Tear on the End Rod to start opening the portal, and "Slay The Ender Dragon" quest follows it.[8]
- "Locating Biomes" quest is in the Useful Items & Tips chapter (chapter 2 of 31). It asks for a Biome Crystal, a Biome Radar and iron bars.[48]
Step 1: the Nether key
Your first real use of the mod is the Blaze and Steel. The pack changed its recipe, so don't trust the mod's default.[9]
This recipe is changed by the pack.
Step 2: the Evil Tear for the End
The Evil Tear is the other quest-gated item, and its recipe is also changed by the pack.[9]
This recipe is changed by the pack.
Biome tools
The pack adds stonecutting recipes that make a Biome Crystal. The Locating Biomes quest tells you to configure the crystal by placing it in a Stonecutter and selecting the biome. The Biome Radar is a multiblock: once a crystal is inside it, the flames blow in the direction of the biome if it is found. The Biome Sensor and Biome Radar both have pack-changed recipes.[4][9][48]

Redstone and automation
The pack changed much of the redstone tier. Basic Redstone Interface, Advanced Redstone Interface, Advanced Redstone Torch, Advanced Redstone Repeater, Analog Emitter and Auto Placer all have pack-changed recipes. The basic interface passes its signal strength to one linked block, while the advanced one can feed up to 9 linked blocks using Location Filters.[9][12][34]

For item handling, the Item Collector gathers items in a 3 block radius (a 7x7x7 cube). The Advanced Item Collector has a configurable radius from 0 to 10 and takes an optional Item Filter. Its recipe is the mod's own.[9][11]
Imbues
The Imbuing Station crafts imbues. In this pack Energized Water, Spectre Imbue and Experience Imbue have changed recipes. Fire Imbue, Collapse Imbue, Poison Imbue and Wither Imbue use the mod's own recipes.[9][24]

How does Irregular Implements work with other mods?
4 parts
Several Irregular Implements items turn up as ingredients in recipes from other mods in this pack, and the pack has changed many of these recipes. The recipes below are the ones that mix this mod with items from elsewhere.[9]
Stable Ender Pearl as a crossover ingredient
Stable Ender Pearl is the item other mods lean on most. It appears in these recipes, all of which the pack changed:[9]
- Evil Tear pairs the Stable Ender Pearl with Drop of Evil and Celestigem.[9]
- Gate Pearls: the Enderman gateway recipe adds Blazegold Ingot, while the Hellish Fortress gateway recipe adds Grains of Infinity. Both produce Gate Pearl.[9]
- Ender Source Jar is an Enchanting Apparatus recipe that starts from an Source Jar and also uses Proto Chorus.[9]
- Enhanced Ender Shard is a smithing recipe built on the Ender Shard and an Echo Shard.[9]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/ender_source_jar
Spectre gear in other mods' recipes
Spectre Lens is an ingredient in the Pocket Mirror recipes. The pack added three ways to make it, each also using a Sun Talisman, a Nutritious Stick and 8,000 of Fluid Liquid Sunshine Still. One is an Advanced AE reaction chamber recipe, one is a Modern Industrialization mixer recipe, and one is a Modern Industrialization FTB constructor recipe.[9]
Mixer (modern_industrialization)

Spectre Boots go into Master Ninja Gear through a fusion crafting recipe the pack added. The other inputs include Shadow-Walker Mask and Charm of Resonant Shield.[9]
Fusion Crafting (draconicevolution)

Pack materials in Irregular Implements recipes
Going the other way, the pack changed some Irregular Implements recipes to use materials from other mods. Obsidian Rod is used for the Biome Painter, the Block Replacer and the Portable Ender Bridge. Blaze and Steel uses a Steel Ingot.[9]
Where it shows up in the quest book
Two Irregular Implements items are tasks in the Getting Started chapter, which is in the Main Questline group (chapter 4 of 31). In "The Nether" quest you need Blaze and Steel to light the portal frame. That quest comes after a quest in "Getting Started" and the quest called Gateway of the Hellish Fortress.[8]
"D.I.Y End Portal" quest asks for Evil Tear, which you use on the End Rod to open the portal. It comes after VoidShimmer Goo and Enderman Gateway.[8]
Getting Started has 57 quests and only some are shown here, so read the rest in the quest book.[8]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Irregular Implements?
2 parts
Irregular Implements shows up in three quests in the pack, spread over two chapters. One is an optional utility quest, and the other two are steps on the main questline.[8][48]
Useful Items & Tips
This is chapter 2 of 31 in the quest book. Its only Irregular Implements quest is "Locating Biomes" quest. It asks for a Biome Crystal, a Biome Radar and some iron bars.[48]
The quest describes a small multiblock that lets you locate any biome. You build a small antenna from the Biome Radar and iron bars, then put a configured Biome Crystal inside the Radar. If the structure is right, particles appear above the bars. You configure a Biome Crystal by putting it in a Stonecutter and selecting the biome you want to track.[48]
The quest also says you can bind the biome location to a Golden Compass by crafting the compass together with a Location Filter bound to an active Biome Radar structure. A picture of the example structure is on the next page of the quest.[48]
Getting Started
This chapter is in the group "Main Questline" and is chapter 4 of 31 in the book. Two of its quests ask for Irregular Implements items, and they come in this order.[8]
- "The Nether" quest asks for a Blaze and Steel, obsidian, and entering the Nether dimension. The quest says you need a portal frame of at least 10 obsidian, then light the portal with the Blaze and Steel. It comes after a quest in "Getting Started" and "Gateway of the Hellish Fortress" quest.[8]
- "D.I.Y End Portal" quest asks for an Evil Tear, an End Rod and End Stone. You build the portal structure shown on the quest's next page, then use the Evil Tear on the End Rod to start opening the portal. It comes after a quest in "Getting Started" and "Enderman Gateway" quest.[8]
After The Nether, the book continues with "Ancient Debris and Netherite" quest and "Piglin Trading" quest. After D.I.Y End Portal, the next quest is "Slay The Ender Dragon" quest.[8]
Which Irregular Implements config options matter?
6 parts
Good news: the pack barely touches this mod's settings. In the server config, the one value the pack changed from the mod default is natureCoreSpawnAnimalRadius. It is set to 1 here, where the mod default is 8, so the Nature Core only spawns animals in a tiny area around it.[27]
Nature Core
- natureCoreSpawnAnimalRadius: 1 in this pack (mod default 8). This is the pack's one change.[27]
- natureCoreBoneMealCropRadius: 25, the mod default.[27]
- natureCorePlantSaplingRadius: 16, the mod default.[27]
- natureCoreReplaceRadius: 10, the mod default.[27]
Teleporting and moving around
- blockTeleporterCrossDimension is false, so the Block Teleporter can't send blocks across dimensions.[27]
- portableEnderBridgeRange is 300, the mod default. That is how far the Portable Ender Bridge looks for an Ender Anchor.[27]
- escapeRopeBlocksPerTick is 250 and escapeRopeMaxBlocks is 0, which means no limit. Both are mod defaults.[27]
- blockMoverTryVaporizeFluid is true. The Block Mover tries to vaporize fluids, for example un-waterlogging a slab moved to the Nether, instead of refusing to move the block.[27]
Area blockers
- peaceCandleChunkRadius is 1 (0 would mean only the Peace Candle's own chunk).[27]
- rainShieldChunkRadius is 5 for the Rain Shield.[27]
- slimeCubeChunkRadius is 0, so the Slime Cube only covers its own chunk.[27]
All three match the mod defaults. The startup config also controls Peace Candles in villages: peaceCandleVillageReplacementChance is 0.3333333333333333 for a Brewing Stand in a listed house pool. peaceCandleVillageTemplatePools lists the plains, desert, savanna, snowy and taiga house pools. Leave that list empty to disable the generation.[50]
Spectre energy
The Spectre network settings are all at their mod defaults. spectre.capacity is 1,000,000. Coil rates per tick: spectre.basicRate is 1,024, spectre.redstoneRate is 4,096 and spectre.enderRate is 20,480. spectre.numberRate is 128 and spectre.genesisRate is 10,000,000, and both of those are generated per tick rather than transferred.[27]
The chargers follow the same pattern: spectre.chargerBasic is 1,024, spectre.chargerRedstone is 4,096, spectre.chargerEnder is 20,480 and spectre.chargerGenesis is 2,147,483,647.[27]
Spirits
Spirits are also at mod defaults. spectre.spiritBaseSpawnChance is 0.01 per entity death. spectre.spiritSpawnDragonKilledBonus adds 0.07 once the Ender Dragon has been killed, and spectre.spiritSpawnFullMoonBonus adds 0.02 on a full moon. A Spirit lasts spectre.spiritMaxAge ticks, which is 400. spectre.imbueProcChance is 0.1.[27]
Client options
- collapseInvertsControls and collapseInvertsMouse are both true, so the Collapse effect inverts both your WASD movement and your mouse.[51]
- hideCustomCraftingTableRecipeBookButton is false, so the recipe book button shows in the Custom Crafting Table screen.[51]
- The Biome Painter cube display settings, such as biome_painter.biomePainterIncorrectBiomeCubeSize at 0.35 and biome_painter.biomePainterCorrectBiomeCubeSize at 0.05, are all mod defaults.[51]
What changed in Irregular Implements between versions?
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships with Irregular Implements 1.12.0. The mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it's been part of the pack for a long time.[2]
The mod's own changelog has entries for versions 1.10.4, 1.11.0 and 1.12.0, the last of which is the version you're playing.[52][53][54]
Unverified The text of those changelog entries wasn't available when this section was written, and there are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so the specific changes in each release can't be confirmed here.
