What is Simple Magnets?
1 part
Simple Magnets adds magnets that pull items and experience toward you, so you stop chasing drops around your island. Magnets can use a whitelist or blacklist, reach up to 11 blocks, work in Baubles or Curios slots, and can be toggled with a key bind.[1]
- Basicmagnet picks up items and experience within 5 blocks of you.[1][2]
- Advancedmagnet has a configurable range, with separate settings for items and experience, and an item filter.[1][2]
- Basic Demagnetization Coil stops items from being attracted by magnets, and its area can be adjusted up to 3 blocks away.[1][2]
- Advanced Demagnetization Coil does the same with an area of up to 5 blocks, and it can filter items.[1][2]
To use a magnet, hold it in your hotbar and right-click to turn it on or off. Sneak + Right-click with the Advanced Magnet opens its filter menu. Open a coil's menu by right-clicking it with an empty hand.[1][2]
In the quest book
The pack's quest book covers the mod in "Simple Magnets" quest, in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter. That is chapter 2 of 31 in the book and holds 30 quests. The quest's tasks are the four items above: both magnets and both coils. Its text covers right-click activation, the Advanced Magnet's larger range and filter menu, and using Demagnetization Coils to stop magnets working in an area.[2]
The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.[2]
This pack includes Simple Magnets 1.1.12+c for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21. It has been in the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier.[3]
How do you get started with Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Simple Magnets is a small mod, and that's what makes it so handy. A magnet pulls dropped items and experience straight to you, which saves a lot of running around while you explore and build. The pack's quest book covers it in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter (chapter 2 of 31), in the quest "Simple Magnets" quest. That quest asks for four items: the Basic Magnet, the Basic Demagnetization Coil, the Advanced Magnet and the Advanced Demagnetization Coil.[2][4]
Step one: make the Basic Magnet
Start with the Basicmagnet. It picks up items and experience around you, and in this pack its range is 5 blocks (General.basicMagnetRange).[2][4][6]

To use it, select the magnet in your hotbar and right-click. Right-click again to turn it off. You get an on-screen message and a ding sound each time, and you can switch both off with Client.showToggleMessage and Client.playToggleSound.[1][2][6]
Step two: upgrade to the Advanced Magnet
Next comes the Advancedmagnet. It reaches further and adds a filter menu. Its default range here is 8 blocks, and you can adjust it between 3 and 11 (General.advancedMagnetRange, General.advancedMagnetMinRange, General.advancedMagnetMaxRange).[1][2][6]

Recipe id: simplemagnets:advancedmagnet
Sneak and right-click with the Advanced Magnet to open its menu. Put an item in a filter slot, then choose whitelist or blacklist, and whether it should match NBT data.[1][2]
Step three: add Demagnetization Coils
A Demagnetization Coil stops magnets from attracting items in an area around it. The Basic Demagnetization Coil covers 2 blocks by default and can be set up to 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]). In this pack it has no filter ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false).[2][4][6]

The Advanced Demagnetization Coil defaults to 3 blocks, goes up to 5, and can filter items ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]]).[1][2][4][6]

How does Simple Magnets work?
5 parts
Simple Magnets is a small mod, and everything in it revolves around one idea: pulling dropped items and experience towards you, or stopping that from happening in a chosen area. This section covers how the magnets and demagnetization coils behave in the pack, and which settings control them.[1]
Magnets
The Basicmagnet picks up items and experience around you while it is activated. In this pack its range is set by General.basicMagnetRange, which is 5 blocks.[1][4][5][6]
The Advancedmagnet does the same job but with a configurable range and item filtering. The pack config gives it a default range of 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange), a minimum of 3 (General.advancedMagnetMinRange) and a maximum of 11 (General.advancedMagnetMaxRange). The mod page also says the range for items and for experience can be configured individually.[1][4][5][6]
Using a magnet
- To turn a magnet on or off, select it in your hotbar and right-click with it.[1]
- To open the Advanced Magnet's GUI, select it in your hotbar and shift-right-click.[1]
Magnets can also be toggled with a key bind, and they can be used in Baubles or Curios slots, so you don't have to hold one in your hand.[1]
A few client options control the feedback you get. All are on in the pack: Client.playToggleSound plays a ding sound when a magnet is turned on or off, Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message, and Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a demagnetization coil's range when you look at it.[6]
Filtering items
The Advanced Magnet is the magnet that supports item filtering. Here is how to set a filter up:[1][4]
- Open the Advanced Magnet's GUI.[1]
- Click one of the filter slots with the item you want.[1]
- Set the filter to whitelist or blacklist.[1]
- Choose whether the filter should match NBT data or not.[1]
Demagnetization coils
Coils do the opposite of magnets: they stop items within their area from being attracted by magnets.[1][4]
The Basic Demagnetization Coil has a default range of 2 blocks ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]]), adjustable from 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) up to 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]). Filtering is switched off for it in the pack ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false).[1][5][6]
The Advanced Demagnetization Coil defaults to 3 blocks ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]]), with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]). Filtering is enabled for it ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true), so you can choose which items it protects from magnets.[1][4][5][6]
To open a coil's GUI, look at the coil with an empty hand and right-click it.[1]
Crafting
The pack changes the recipes of all four items, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's own page or from other packs. These are the in-pack recipes.[1][5]

How do you progress through Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Simple Magnets has two tiers in this pack: a basic tier and an advanced tier. Each tier has a magnet and a demagnetization coil. The pack's quest book covers all four items in one quest, "Simple Magnets" quest, in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter. That is chapter 2 of 31 in the book.[2]
Basic tier
The Basicmagnet is where you start. Right-click to activate it and it swiftly pulls any items around you into your inventory. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.[2][5]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | ||
Recipe id: simplemagnets:basicmagnet
The Basic Demagnetization Coil is the other half. Demagnetization coils stop magnets from working in a certain area, which is handy if you don't want a magnet vacuuming up items in your farms or storage rooms. This recipe is also changed by the pack.[2][5]

Recipe id: simplemagnets:basic_demagnetization_coil
Advanced tier
The Advancedmagnet is the upgrade. It has a larger range than the basic magnet and a filter menu, which you open with Sneak + Right-click. You craft it using the basic magnet as part of the recipe, so keep your first one. The pack changed this recipe as well.[2][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: simplemagnets:advancedmagnet
The Advanced Demagnetization Coil follows the same pattern: you craft it from the basic coil, so the basic coil is a stepping stone rather than a throwaway. The pack changed this recipe too.[5]

Suggested order
- Craft the Basicmagnet and right-click to switch it on.[2][5]
- Craft the Basic Demagnetization Coil for any area where you don't want items pulled in.[2][5]
- Upgrade to the Advancedmagnet for the bigger range and the filter menu.[2][5]
- Upgrade the coil to the Advanced Demagnetization Coil when you want the advanced version.[5]
Unverified The exact pickup range of each magnet and the exact area each demagnetization coil covers in this pack are not confirmed by the available sources. The quest only says the Advanced Magnet has a larger range.
How does Simple Magnets work with other mods?
1 part
The one confirmed link between Simple Magnets and another mod in this pack is the Basic Magnet recipe. The pack changed it, so it is not the mod's default. It now uses Grains of Infinity, an Ender IO item, so you'll need to get that far before you can make your first magnet.[5]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | ||
Recipe id: simplemagnets:basicmagnet
This is the pack's changed version of the Basic Magnet recipe, not the mod's default.
This is the only crafting connection to other mods that the recipe sources show for Simple Magnets. The Advancedmagnet and both demagnetization coils don't appear in any recipe with items from other mods, so there is nothing more to report about what they need.[5]
In the quest book
The "Simple Magnets" quest quest sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 2 of 31 in the book. It covers the Basicmagnet, Advancedmagnet, Basic Demagnetization Coil and Advanced Demagnetization Coil.[2]
The chapter also holds quests for other mods, such as "Crafting Stations" quest and "Tool Belt" quest. The quest text that is shown doesn't tie any of those mods to the magnets.[2]
The chapter has 30 quests, and the text of 12 of them isn't included here, so check the quest book itself for anything else it says about magnets.[2]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Simple Magnets?
2 parts
Simple Magnets shows up in one quest in this pack: "Simple Magnets" quest. It sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 2 of 31 in the quest book and holds 30 quests. The chapter is a collection of handy items and tricks from many mods, not a magnet-only chapter.[2]
What the quest asks for
The quest has four item tasks, so you need to get all four items:[2]
What the quest text teaches
You activate a magnet by right-clicking, and it quickly pulls any items around you into your inventory.[2]
The Advanced Magnet has a larger range than the basic one. It also has a filter menu, which you open by Sneak + Right-clicking.[2]
The Demagnetization Coils do the opposite job: they stop magnets from working in a certain area. That is handy if you don't want a magnet grabbing items somewhere, like around a farm or a build.[2]
Which Simple Magnets config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: Simple Magnets has just one config file, and in this pack every value in it is the mod's default. The pack changed nothing here, so you get the stock behavior. Here are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values the pack uses.[7]
Magnet ranges
- General.basicMagnetRange is 5, the pickup range for items and XP with the Basic Magnet. The allowed range is 1 to 20.[7]
- General.advancedMagnetRange is 8. This is the Advanced Magnet's default pickup range for items and XP.[7]
- General.advancedMagnetMinRange is 3 and General.advancedMagnetMaxRange is 11. These set the limits you can adjust the Advanced Magnet between. Both accept values from 1 to 20.[7]
Demagnetization coils
Coils stop items from being pulled in by magnets. Their ranges and filtering are configurable, and the allowed range for all coil range options is 1 to 10.[1][7]
- Basic coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]] is 2, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[7]
- Advanced coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]] is 3, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[7]
- [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false, so the Basic coil can't filter items. [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true, so the Advanced coil can.[1][7]
Client options
These are all quality-of-life toggles, and all of them are true in this pack. Switch any of them to false if it bugs you.[7]
- Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when you turn a magnet on or off.[7]
- Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message when you toggle a magnet.[7]
- Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a Demagnetization Coil's range when you look at it, which is handy for placing coils.[7]
What changed in Simple Magnets between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Simple Magnets 1.1.12c, the newest release in the mod's changelog. The mod was already in the pack by version 1.0.3 or earlier, so you've had it from the early days.[3][8]
Mod releases up to the pack's version
These are the mod's own changelog entries, newest first. They are all bug fixes since the first 1.21 release.[8]
- 1.1.12c: fixed the integration with Curios.[8]
- 1.1.12b: fixed a crash when changing advanced magnet options.[8]
- 1.1.12a: fixed the advanced magnet data component not being comparable.[8]
- 1.1.12: fixed demagnetization coil option changes not always getting saved.[8]
- 1.1.11b: fixed magnets not going in Curios slots.[8]
- 1.1.11a: fixed a crash on startup.[8]
- 1.1.11: the initial release of Simple Magnets for Minecraft 1.21.[8]
In practice, the Curios slot problems from 1.1.11b and 1.1.12c are fixed in the version you're running. So are the crash when editing advanced magnet options and the unsaved demagnetization coil settings.[3][8]
Unverified No pack changelog entries about Simple Magnets were available, so any changes the pack itself made to this mod across its releases are unconfirmed.
