What is Mystical Agriculture?

1 part

Mystical Agriculture is all about growing your resources instead of digging for them. You plant crops that produce essences, then turn those essences into materials, mob drops, tools, armor and more. The pack runs version 8.0.27 of the mod.[1][2]

It's a great fit if you like building up a farm that keeps paying you back. Around the crops you'll find a whole toolkit. Growth Accelerators and Watering Cans speed up growth, and Scythes and Sickles make harvesting easier. There's also an upgradable Furnace, a Seed Reprocessor for spare seeds, and tiers of essence tools and armor you can upgrade with augments.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack walks you through the mod with a chain of quests. Each step builds on the one before it, so here's the main route.[3]

  1. Start by collecting Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland for "Mystical Agriculture" quest.[3]
  2. Next, grab a Prosperity Shard and an Infusion Crystal for "Prosperity Shards" quest.[3]
  3. Build the Infusion Altar, Infusion Pedestal and a Prosperity Seed Base for "Making Custom Seeds" quest. The altar and pedestals are how you craft resource seeds.[1][3]
  4. Climb the essence tiers: Prudentium Essence, then Tertium Essence, Imperium Essence and finally Supremium Essence.[3]

Once you finish "Prosperity Shards" quest, side quests branch off for Growth Accelerators, Inferium tools, armor, watering can and machine upgrade, and the Furnace. Others cover the Seed Reprocessor, the Tinkering Table with an Unattuned Augment, and the soul-collecting kit. Later tiers of gear and upgrades unlock as your essence tier goes up.[3]

A separate quest chapter also asks you for specific resource essences, such as Coal Essence, Lapis Lazuli Essence and Platinum Essence.[4]

How do you get started with Mystical Agriculture?

4 parts

Mystical Agriculture is all about growing your resources instead of mining them. You plant seeds, harvest essences, and turn those essences into materials, mob drops, tools and armor, with well over 130 resource crops covering vanilla and modded materials.[1]

Start with Inferium

The quest chain opens with a single entry that asks for Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland together, so treat those three as your first goal, everything else in the chapter sits behind them.[3]

Inferium Essence also drops from killing mobs, and Inferium Seeds give you a second, renewable source of it. Plant those seeds on Essence Farmland and you get more essence per harvest; you can craft the farmland or just right-click vanilla farmland in-world to convert it.[1]

Unlock the Infusion Crystal

The second quest, "Prosperity Shards" quest, wants a Prosperity Shard and an Infusion Crystal. This is the real gate: almost every other Mystical Agriculture quest in the chapter lists it as a prerequisite, so build toward it before you branch out.[3]

Right after that, "Making Custom Seeds" quest asks for the Infusion Altar, an Infusion Pedestal and a Prosperity Seed Base. Seeds are crafted on the altar with pedestals around it, and placing the altar in the world shows you exactly where the pedestals go. Seed bases are the blank you turn into any seed you want, and normal resource seeds also need some of their own resource plus the tier essence of that seed.[1][3]

Quality-of-life pickups

Once the Infusion Crystal quest is done, a whole row of small quests opens at the same time. Grab them in whatever order suits your base:[3]

Climbing the tiers

After the altar quest, "Prudentium Essence" quest points you at Prudentium Essence, and a parallel quest covers the higher farmland tiers. Upgrading essence from one tier to the next is what the Infusion Crystal is for, so keep it handy: the rest of the chapter is just repeating that climb through Tertium, Imperium and Supremium.[1][3]

Tip: The pack adds Garden Cloche recipes for resource seeds, so you can automate essence without a field. Each seed has variants for plain dirt, Rich Soil, the goo soils and every tier of Essence Farmland.[5]

How does Mystical Agriculture work?

7 parts

Mystical Agriculture is built around one loop: grow essences with resource crops, then turn those essences into materials, mob drops, tools and armor. The mod ships well over 130 resource crops covering vanilla and modded ingredients, plus six sets of tools and armor that you upgrade later with augments.[1]

Seeds and the Infusion Altar

Seeds are not made in a crafting table. You build an Infusion Altar and surround it with Infusion Pedestals; when you place the altar in the world it shows you exactly where the pedestals go. You feed it Seed Bases along with the resource you want to farm and the tier essence of that seed.[1]

In this pack the vanilla crafting recipes for seeds are switched off, so the altar really is the only route: General.seedCraftingRecipes is false.[6]

To move essence up a tier you need an Infusion Crystal. The basic crystal is set to 1,000 uses in this pack, matching the mod default, via General.infusionCrystalUses. There is also a Master Infusion Crystal covered later in the guide.[6][7]

The pack also keeps a shapeless conversion that turns Insanium Essence back down into Supremium Essence, so the tier above Supremium is reversible if you overshoot.[5]

Making crops grow faster

  • Essence Farmland gives you more essence per harvest. You can craft it, or right-click vanilla Farmland with an essence in-world, which this pack leaves enabled through General.essenceFarmlandConversion.[1][6]
  • Growth Accelerators speed up the plant directly above them, and they stack vertically. Each accelerator ticks once every 10 seconds in this pack, set by General.growthAcceleratorCooldown.[6][8][9]
  • Watering cans add another growth boost, and because General.fakePlayerWatering is true, fake players can use them, that is what lets you automate watering with other mods' block-placer style machines.[1][6]
  • Mystical Fertilizer is the panic button: it instantly grows a crop or sapling.[8]
  • Crops in this pack do not need their matching farmland to grow, since General.requiresEffectiveFarmland is false.[6]

Harvesting and processing

For manual farming, Scythes and Sickles clear crops in an area, and a Diamond Sickle or Diamond Scythe is a cheap early option. For hands-off farms the Harvester block harvests fields automatically.[1][10][11][12]

Harvesting a resource crop has a 10 percent chance to drop Fertilized Essence in this pack, from General.fertilizedEssenceChance. Crops do not drop a bonus second seed here, because General.secondarySeedDrops is false, so plan your seed count around the altar rather than around duplication.[6][13]

Extra seeds are not waste: the Seed Reprocessor converts them back into essence. Upgradable Essence Furnaces process resources faster, the Enchanter spends spare resource essences to enchant tools, armor or books, and the Soulium Spawner spends spare mob essences to spawn mobs.[1][14][15][16][17]

Machine speed and upgrades

Mystical Agriculture machines expose their speed directly in the tooltip as an operation time in ticks, and Machine Upgrades show a speed multiplier. Upgrades run all the way up to the Supremium Machine Upgrade and the Awakened Machine Supremium Upgrade, so a fully upgraded furnace or reprocessor is dramatically faster than a fresh one.[8][18]

Unverified The sources available for this page do not cover whether these machines need energy or fluids, or how they handle item input and output sides, so check the machine GUI and tooltips in game before you pipe into them.

Souls and mob essences

Mob seeds run on souls instead of items. Keep Soul Jars of the mob type in your inventory and kill that mob with a Soulium Dagger; the jar fills as you farm. Dagger variants specialise: one grants extra souls from peaceful creatures, another from hostile creatures, and the creative dagger grants infinite souls from all creatures. The Soul Siphoner enchantment adds 10 percent more souls collected per level.[1][8][19][20]

Soulstone generates in this pack, and each Soulstone cluster has a 5 percent chance to contain Soulium Ore, set by World.generateSoulstone and World.souliumOreChance. Soulstone is the backbone of the soul-side blocks, including the Essence Vessel.[5][6][21][22]

Watch out: Killing mobs will not hand you free Inferium Essence here. The pack sets General.inferiumDropChance to 0, down from the mod default of 0.2, so your essence income has to come from crops rather than from mob farms.[6]

The Awakening Altar

The endgame multiblock is the Awakening Altar ringed by Awakening Pedestal blocks. It infuses Cognizant Dust with a Supremium Block to produce Awakened Supremium, the material behind the upgraded versions of your Supremium gear.[8][23][24]

Cognizant Dust comes from the Wither and the Ender Dragon when you kill them with an essence weapon enchanted with Mystical Enlightenment. This pack leaves both drops on, through General.witherDropsCognizant and General.dragonDropsCognizant, and both bosses also drop essence to essence weapons via General.witherDropsEssence and General.dragonDropsEssence.[6][8][25]

From there, Awakened Supremium Essence blocks up and combines with Prosperity Ingot or Prosperity Gemstone to make the ingot and gemstone forms used in awakened tools, armor and accelerators.[5]

Tinkering and augments

Essence tools and armor are upgraded at the Tinkering Table, where you slot augments into gear. Augments cover movement and utility (Creative Flight, step height up to 1 block, Night Vision, Water Breathing, Slow Falling, no fall damage), combat and survivability (Strength III, health boosts up to 10 extra hearts, absorption hearts refreshed every 8 minutes), full immunity to effects like Wither, Poison and Mining Fatigue, and area-of-effect tiers that push mining, attack, tilling or pathing out to 9x9.[1][8][26][27]

How do you progress through Mystical Agriculture?

5 parts

The pack walks you up the essence ladder with its own quest chain, and each rung unlocks the next. The order is Inferium, Prudentium, Tertium, Imperium, Supremium and finally Awakened Supremium, with a matching set of tools, armour, watering cans and machine upgrades hanging off every step.[3]

Getting started

The opening quest asks for Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland. Everything else in the chain sits behind the follow-up quest for Prosperity Shard and the Infusion Crystal, so make those your first target.[3]

You will bump into the mod before that, too: an early quest in the pack's opening chapter wants Iron Essence alongside Inferium Essence, and the diamond quest counts Diamond Seeds as one of its options.[28]

The tier ladder

  1. Finish the Inferium starter quest, then the prosperity shard and infusion crystal quest that gates the rest of the tree.[3]
  2. Build the infusion setup: Infusion Altar, Infusion Pedestal and Prosperity Seed Base.[3]
  3. Work up through Prudentium Essence, Tertium Essence, Imperium Essence and Supremium Essence; each quest is locked behind the one before it.[3]
  4. Once Supremium is done, the awakening branch opens: Awakening Altar, Awakening Pedestal and Essence Vessel, plus Cognizant Dust and the Master Infusion Crystal.[3]
  5. With the altar, Supremium and cognizant dust in hand, the final quest asks for Awakened Supremium Essence and the Awakened Supremium Block.[3]

There is also a farmland quest that accepts any tier you like, from Inferium Farmland all the way up to Insanium Farmland, so upgrading your soil counts whenever you get round to it.[3]

Gear follows the same steps

Tools, armour, watering cans and machine upgrades each form their own chain that runs in parallel with the essence tiers. A tier's gear quest needs both that tier's essence quest and the previous tier's gear quest, so you cannot skip ahead: Inferium gear first, then Prudentium, Tertium, Imperium, Supremium and Awakened Supremium.[3]

Tip: The Awakened Supremium sword is worth building even if you skip the rest of the top-tier gear, since another quest chapter in the pack asks for it directly.[29]

Side branches you can take early

Several quests unlock straight after the prosperity shard and infusion crystal, so you do not have to wait for higher tiers. They cover the Furnace, the Seed Reprocessor, growth accelerators of any tier, the Tinkering Table with an Unattuned Augment, and the soul line of Soulium Dagger, Soul Extractor and Soul Jar.[3]

The two top-end seeds, Nether Star Seeds and Dragon Egg Seeds, sit in their own quests with their cruxes and are gated behind a separate prerequisite rather than the essence ladder.[3]

Resource crops

Individual resource essences get their own quests in the pack's resources chapter instead of the progression chain. Many, like Coal Essence, Iron Essence and Copper Essence, have no prerequisites at all, while others wait on the matching material: Netherite Essence, Nether Quartz Essence, Diamond Essence, Emerald Essence and Amethyst Essence all sit behind earlier quests.[4]

The pack also adds Garden Cloche recipes for the essence seeds, so you can grow them automatically on plain dirt, rich soil, the goo soils, or any tier of essence farmland including Insanium.[5]

How does Mystical Agriculture work with other mods?

3 parts

Most of the crossover in this pack comes from two places: the Immersive Engineering cloche and the Cognition molecular metamorphosis machine. Both use recipes the pack adds itself, so you won't find them in the base mod. Here's what the recipe dump shows.[5]

Cloche recipes

The pack adds cloche recipes that grow Mystical Agriculture seeds into essences. The soil can come from other mods: Primogel Soil, Blazebloom Soil, VoidShimmer Soil or Shadowpulse Soil from Just Direr Things, or Rich Soil from Farmer's Delight. Insanium Farmland from the Mystical Agradditions addon also works. The dump covers air, aluminum, amethyst, armadillo, blaze, breeze, bronze, certus quartz and chicken essences. It is cut off partway through, so other essences may follow the same pattern. I can't confirm that from what I have.[5]

Air EssenceAdded by the pack

Cloche (immersiveengineering)

Recipe id: ftb:cloche/air_essence_from_goosoil_tier1

One example of the pattern; the other soils follow the same layout.

It also works the other way around. In the cloche, Mystical Agriculture's own farmland tiers act as the soil for crops from other mods. The dump shows these:[5]

Each of these has a recipe for every farmland tier from Inferium Farmland up to Supremium Farmland, so any farmland you've built will work.[5]

Cognition molecular metamorphosis

The pack adds two molecular metamorphosis recipes that use Mystical Agriculture items. One makes Osmium Essence from Silver Essence, using Black Quartz and Grains of Infinity. Osmium and Grains of Infinity already exist as crops in the mod, so this gives you another route to that essence.[1][5]

The other turns an Awakened Supremium Gemstone into Primal Essence, so late-game Mystical Agriculture progress feeds into this pack's own material.[5]

Quests

The quest chapter that covers Mystical Agriculture stays mostly inside the mod and its Mystical Agradditions addon. For example, one quest accepts any essence farmland, including the insanium one: "Understanding Essence Farmland" quest. The tool quests also accept the addon's paxels, such as a quest in "Generating Resources". The quest file I was given is truncated, so I can't confirm quests that tie in other mods.[3]

Unverified The pack changes the Experience Droplet emptying recipe in Cognition so its output is a barrier block. What this does in practice isn't confirmed by the sources.

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Mystical Agriculture?

6 parts

Mystical Agriculture shows up in these quest chapters in this pack: resource_generation, resources_and_you, the_beginning and the_wild_hunt. Most of it sits in resource_generation, which walks you up the essence tiers. resources_and_you works as a checklist of resource essences.[3][4][28][29]

the_beginning: your first seeds

"Your First Diamonds" quest asks for a diamond, a budding diamond, a diamond mesh and Diamond Seeds. "Essential Oils Waters" quest asks for Iron Essence and Inferium Essence. It comes after another quest in the chapter that isn't covered here.[28]

resource_generation: the main path

This chapter starts with "Mystical Agriculture" quest, which asks for Inferium Essence, Inferium Seeds and Inferium Farmland. After that comes "Prosperity Shards" quest, which wants a Prosperity Shard and an Infusion Crystal.[3]

Once that quest is done, a whole fan of quests opens up. Each of these lists that quest as its prerequisite:[3]

Climbing the essence tiers

After the infusion altar quest, the chapter follows the essence tiers in order. Each tier has an essence quest, and the tools, armor, watering can and machine upgrade quests for that tier hang off it. Each of those also requires the matching quest from the tier below.[3]

  1. Prudentium: "Prudentium Essence" quest asks for Prudentium Essence. "Understanding Essence Farmland" quest is also unlocked by the infusion altar quest and takes any farmland from Inferium up to Supremium, or the Insanium farmland from the Mystical Agradditions add-on.[3]
  2. Prudentium gear: "Prudentium Gear" quest (tools), "Prudentium Armor" quest (armor), "Prudentium Watering Can" quest (watering can) and "Prudentium Machine Upgrade" quest (upgrade).[3]
  3. Tertium: "Tertium Essence" quest asks for Tertium Essence. Its gear quests are "Tertium Gear" quest (tools), "Tertium Armor" quest (armor), "Tertium Watering Can" quest (watering can) and "Tertium Machine Upgrade" quest (upgrade).[3]
  4. Imperium: "Imperium Essence" quest asks for Imperium Essence. Its gear quests are "Imperium Gear" quest (tools), "Imperium Armor" quest (armor), "Imperium Watering Can" quest (watering can) and "Imperium Machine Upgrade" quest (upgrade).[3]
  5. Supremium: "Supremium Essence" quest asks for Supremium Essence. Its gear quests are "Supremium Gear" quest (tools), "Supremium Armor" quest (armor), "Supremium Watering Can" quest (watering can) and "Supremium Machine Upgrade" quest (upgrade).[3]

The Awakened Supremium finale

These quests open after Supremium essence: "Awakening Altar" quest (the Awakening Altar, Awakening Pedestal and Essence Vessel), "Master Infusion Crystal" quest (the Master Infusion Crystal) and "Cognizant Dust" quest (Cognizant Dust).[3]

"Awakened Essence" quest then asks for an Awakened Supremium Block and Awakened Supremium Essence. It needs the Cognizant Dust quest, the Supremium essence quest and the awakening altar quest all done first. It unlocks the last set: "Awakened Supremium Armor" quest (armor), "Awakened Supremium Machine Upgrade" quest (upgrade), "Awakened Supremium Watering Can" quest (watering can) and "Awakened Supremium Gear" quest (tools). Each of those also needs the matching Imperium-tier quest.[3]

Two more quests, "Nether Star Seeds" quest and "Dragon Egg Seeds" quest, ask for Nether Star Seeds and Dragon Egg Seeds. Each also asks for a crux item from the Mystical Agradditions add-on. They unlock after a quest outside the ones covered here.[3]

Tip: Many of the tool, armor and watering can quests list several alternative items joined by 'or', and the tool quests also list Mystical Agradditions paxels. The task accepts any one of the alternatives, so you don't need every item shown.[3]

resources_and_you: resource essences

This chapter is a checklist of resource essences, one quest each. These have no prerequisite listed: lapis (Lapis Lazuli Essence), platinum (Platinum Essence), coal (Coal Essence), iron (Iron Essence), redstone (Redstone Essence), aluminum (Aluminum Essence), gold (Gold Essence), osmium (Osmium Essence), copper (Copper Essence), nickel (Nickel Essence), lead (Lead Essence), uranium (Uranium Essence), tin (Tin Essence) and silver (Silver Essence).[4]

The rest are gated behind other quests: emerald ("Emerald Essence" quest), amethyst ("Amethyst Essence" quest), nether quartz ("Nether Quartz Essence" quest), netherite ("Netherite Essence" quest), dirt ("Dirt Essence" quest), zinc ("Zinc Essence" quest) and a Prosperity Shard ("Prosperity Shard" quest). The diamond essence quest, "Diamond Essence" quest, comes after the diamond quest "Your First Diamonds" quest in the_beginning, plus another quest not covered here.[4][28]

the_wild_hunt

"Awakened Supremium Sword" quest asks for an Awakened Supremium Sword. No prerequisite is listed for it.[29]

Unverified The quest rewards, and the descriptions behind the untitled quests, are not in the available sources, so they are not covered here.

Which Mystical Agriculture config options matter?

4 parts

Everything here lives in General.inferiumDropChance's file, config/mysticalagriculture-common.toml. The only value the pack's file marks as changed from the mod default is the Inferium mob drop chance. Everything else below is what the pack currently has set.[6]

The one change from the mod default

General.inferiumDropChance is set to 0 in this pack. The mod default is 0.2. That option controls the chance that a passive or hostile mob drops an Inferium Essence when killed, so in this pack mobs won't drop it.[6]

Farming options

Gear and boss drops

World generation

World.generateInferiumOre, World.generateProsperityOre and World.generateSoulstone are all true, so Inferium Ore, Prosperity Ore and Soulstone generate in the world. World.souliumOreChance is 0.05, the same as the mod default. That's the chance a Soulium Ore spawns in a Soulstone cluster.[6]

What changed in Mystical Agriculture between versions?

3 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Mystical Agriculture 8.0.27 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, from 8.0.17 up to the version you're playing.[2][30]

Watch out: These are the mod's own release notes. They don't say what the pack sets for any new config option, so check your own config before assuming a default applies.[30][31]

Bigger changes

  • 8.0.17: Added the Phantom vanilla crop, a config option to make Supremium and Awakened Supremium armor unbreakable, and machine upgrade API classes.[30]
  • 8.0.19: Added a Glow Ink Sac essence recipe and a Soul Extractor recipe, and Glow Squid is now a potential spawn for Squid Essence. A new config option makes resource crops grow only on their effective farmland. Fertilized Essence and Mystical Fertilizer were added to the c:fertilizers tag.[31]
  • 8.0.19 also improved the interface: mob egg tooltips in the Soulium Spawner JEI category now show the spawn chance, and the Harvester tooltip describes fuel usage more accurately.[31]
  • 8.0.21: Added Sculk seeds. Essence Vessel Colors can now be loaded from datapacks and synced to the client, and can be set with CraftTweaker.[32]
  • 8.0.22: Created default incorrect_for_*_tool tag JSON files for all tool tiers.[33]

Bug fixes worth knowing

  • 8.0.18: Recipes for crops with tag ingredients now accept all entries of the tag.[34]
  • 8.0.19: Machine output slots no longer allow manual input, and fuel slots no longer accept non-fuel items. Infusion recipes with fewer than 8 pedestal items now craft. Awakening and Infusion recipes now account for the altar item when calculating remainder items. The Furnace screen background texture was also fixed.[31]
  • 8.0.20: The Breeze crop is now a Mob crop instead of a Resource crop. The Soul Siphoner and Mystical Enlightenment enchants are no longer exclusive with damage enchants. The Soul Jar tooltip now always rounds soul values down.[35]
  • 8.0.21: Fixed registering Augments with different mod ids.[32]
  • 8.0.26: Machine blocks are now properly Clearable.[36]
  • 8.0.27: The Enchanter no longer always gives enchantment level 1 when the input ingredients are flipped.[37]

Smaller updates

Releases 8.0.23 and 8.0.24 only updated translations (pt_br and ja_jp). Several other releases also refreshed translations alongside their other changes. 8.0.19 also added API changes for mod and script authors: new IEnchanterRecipe methods that take a required enchantment level, and MysticalAgricultureAPI#getConfigValues() for reading certain config options.[30][31][33][34][35][38][39]

Unverified No changelog was available for release 8.0.25, and no pack changelog entries for this mod were provided, so changes in those are unconfirmed.
