What is Actually Additions?

1 part

Actually Additions is a magitech mod packed with gadgets. The pack includes version 1.3.26. Its core idea is to turn minerals into powerful crystals, then use those crystals to build machines for processing and sorting items. It also adds lasers that move energy, items and fluids wirelessly, and renewable oil you can burn for power.[1][2]

The two key crafting stations are the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer. You use them to make the crystals that most of the mod's machines are built from.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack gives the mod its own quest chapter, and you can start it right away. The first quests ask for a Lens, Coffee Beans, a Worm, Black Quartz, Canola Seeds and Flax Seeds. None of them has a prerequisite.[3]

The black quartz quest "Welcome to Actually Additions!" quest leads to the Atomic Reconstructor quest "Atomic Reconstructor" quest. That one is the main gate, because most of the chapter branches off it. Behind it you'll find the Energizer and Enervator, the batteries, the Coffee Maker, the Farmer, the Light Blue Drill and the Canola Press.[3]

The Empowerer quest "Empowering Crystals" quest comes next, together with the Display Stand. It opens the later tier: the Bio Reactor, the Teleport Staff, the Leaf-Eating Generator, the Experience Solidifier and the empowered crystals, such as the Empowered Palis Crystal and Empowered Diamatine Crystal.[3]

Tip: The mod ships with an in-game guide booklet that has chapters on crystals and getting started. Check it whenever a machine confuses you.[4][5][6]

How do you get started with Actually Additions?

4 parts

Actually Additions is built around two machines: the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer. Together they turn minerals into powerful crystals, and those crystals unlock the mod's other machines. The pack's quest chapter for the mod follows the same order, so you can use it as your checklist.[1][3]

Step one: get some Black Quartz

The Actually Additions quest chapter starts with "Welcome to Actually Additions!" quest, which asks for Black Quartz. The Atomic Reconstructor quest comes right after it. You get Black Quartz from Black Quartz Ore. The pack has a smelting recipe and a blasting recipe for the ore, plus a separate crushing recipe.[3][7]

Blasting the ore works too, using the black_quartz_ore_blasting recipe.

Step two: craft the Atomic Reconstructor

This is the key machine. Most of the chapter's quests, including the crystal, battery, farming and machine quests, only unlock after "Atomic Reconstructor" quest, the quest for the Atomic Reconstructor.[3]

Once it's built, the next quests ask for Enori Crystal and Restonia Crystal. Both have in-pack crafting recipes that start from crystal shards.[3][7]

Step three: build the Empowerer

The Empowerer is the second pillar of the mod. In the pack, "Empowering Crystals" quest covers it together with the Display Stand. The more advanced quests, such as the Bio Reactor, the Teleport Staff and the Leaf-Eating Generator, come after it. The Empowerer recipe uses two intermediate parts that you craft first, so here are all three recipes.[3][7]

A handy early extra

The Crafting Table On A Stick has its own quest, "On A STICK!" quest, in the useful items chapter. Its recipe is shapeless.[7][8]

Tip: Some quests in the chapter have no prerequisite, such as the ones for the Lens, Coffee Beans, Worm, Canola Seeds and Flax Seeds. You can complete those whenever you come across the items, without waiting for the Atomic Reconstructor.[3]

How does Actually Additions work?

6 parts

Actually Additions is built around a simple loop: you turn minerals into crystals, use those crystals to build machines, then link the machines with lasers that wirelessly move energy, items and fluids. This section covers how those systems behave in this pack, as far as the available sources explain them.[1]

Crystals and the Atomic Reconstructor

The Atomic Reconstructor is where crystal-making starts. The mod's achievements list making a crystal with it, and the mod description says you use the Reconstructor and the Empowerer to turn minerals into crystals that allow the creation of useful machines.[1][9]

The Reconstructor can store 300,000 energy, set by machineSettings.reconstructorPower. This pack keeps the mod default. The energy use of its Mining Lens is 60,000, set by machineSettings.minerLensEnergy, and that is also the mod default.[10]

Coils and the Battery Box

The pack has changed the recipe for the Advanced Coil, so don't rely on the mod's default version. The Basic Coil recipe is the mod's own.[7]

Batteries have a charging mode. Sneak-right-click a battery to toggle whether it charges other items in your inventory. Its tooltip tells you whether it is currently charging them or not.[9]

If the energy overlay shown when you look at blocks gets in your way, you can hide it with hideEnergyOverlay. It is set to false in this pack, so the overlay is shown.[11]

Laser relays

The mod description presents lasers as the way to wirelessly transport energy, items and fluids. In this pack, machineSettings.laserRelayLoss is set to true, and the config describes it as controlling whether Energy Laser Relays have energy loss.[1][10]

The Fluid Laser Relay can transfer up to 10,000 fluid per tick, set by machineSettings.fluidLaserTransferRate. That is also the mod default.[10]

A relay can be set to take items only out of adjacent blocks, or to push only into adjacent blocks. In this pack you change that direction by holding a compass, which is the item set in other.relayConfigurator. Item relays also have values you raise with right-click and lower with sneak-right-click.[9][10]

Item Interfaces and filters

The in-game guide explains that an Item Laser Relay network on its own just knows about the items and slots in the containers connected to it. The Item Interface is described as the way to interact with them: it pretends to be one very large chest containing every slot of every connected container.[9]

The guide says this means a Hopper or any other item transport can insert into it and pull from it like a chest. Items are not stored in the interface itself, because they go to and are pulled from the relay network. To connect an interface, the guide says to place an Item Laser Relay next to it.[9]

The Hopping Item Interface connects the same way, but it pulls and pushes items on its own. It has every functionality the Hopper has, except that it stores items in the network instead of an internal inventory.[9]

Filters follow a few rules. An empty blocklist lets everything through, and an empty allowlist lets nothing through. A filter can also compare the mod an item comes from instead of the item itself, which helps with mod-based chests. The smart button fills a list from all inventories adjacent to the relay.[9]

Generators

The config describes the Leaf Generator's harvesting area as 7x7x7 by default, with a cooldown of 5 ticks between generation cycles and an energy production of 300 CF per leaf. These are the settings machineSettings.leafGeneratorArea, machineSettings.leafGeneratorCooldown and machineSettings.leafGeneratorCPPerLeaf, and this pack keeps each of them at the mod default. The area must be an odd number.[10]

The oil generator can transfer 500 power per tick, set by machineSettings.oilGeneratorTransfer. This is also the mod default.[10]

How do you progress through Actually Additions?

5 parts

Actually Additions in this pack is a clear quest chain. You start with a few raw materials, build one machine that unlocks most of the early quests, and then build a second machine that unlocks the advanced ones. Here is the path.[3]

Getting started: the raw materials

The chapter opens with several quests that have no prerequisites. They ask for a Lens, Coffee Beans, a Worm, Black Quartz, Canola Seeds with Canola Plant, and Flax Seeds. You can work on them in any order.[3]

Black Quartz is the one that matters most for progression. You get it by smelting, blasting or crushing Black Quartz Ore.[7]

The Lens quest also leads to a side branch of lens quests: Lens of Certain Death, Lens of the Miner, Lens of Color, Lens of Disenchanting and Lens of Detonation. The Lens of the Miner also shows up in the resources chapter of the pack's questbook.[3][12]

Stage one: the Atomic Reconstructor

Once you have Black Quartz, the next quest is "Atomic Reconstructor" quest, the Atomic Reconstructor. It is the gate for nearly everything else in the chapter.[3]

After it, a wide set of quests opens at once, including the following.[3]

Crystals work as a compression chain. Shards craft into crystals, crystals into blocks, and some blocks can be turned back into crystals. Here is the Enori Crystal step.[7]

Drills and augments

The Light Blue Drill quest leads to "Drill Augments" quest, which accepts any drill augment. The augments cover speed, silk touch, fortune, area mining and block placing. The top fortune augment is named Drill Fortune Augment II (Gives Fortune III!) in this pack, and its name says it gives Fortune III.[3][7]

Stage two: the Empowerer

The second gate is "Empowering Crystals" quest, which asks for the Empowerer and a Display Stand. Its recipe builds on items from the first stage, so finish those quests first.[3][7]

The Empowerer opens the advanced quests: the Bio Reactor, Leaf-Eating Generator, Ring of Growth, Greenhouse Glass, Vertical Digger, Teleport Staff, the Experience Solidifier and the lava factory parts. The empowered crystals are here too, such as Empowered Palis Crystal and Empowered Diamatine Crystal.[3]

Empowering takes a basic crystal, or a whole crystal block, plus a few extra items, and produces the empowered version. Empowered Canola Seeds work the same way, using Canola Seeds and Crystallized Canola Seeds. Here is an example.[7]

Extras outside the main chapter

The pack's useful-items chapter has two more quests for this mod. One is the Crafting Table On A Stick, and the other accepts any AIOT, from Wooden AIOT up to Netherite AIOT. Neither needs any machines.[7][8]

Unverified The questbook quests in this chapter are untitled, and the in-game booklet text was not available to me. How each crystal type is obtained from the Atomic Reconstructor is therefore unverified here, so check the booklet or JEI in-game. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Actually Additions work with other mods?

5 parts

Actually Additions doesn't stand alone in this pack. The pack added or changed a bunch of recipes that mix its items with other mods, mostly around Black Quartz, farming and Bat's Wing. Here's what the recipes and quests actually confirm.[7]

Getting Black Quartz from other mods

The pack gives you several routes to Black Quartz. In the Actually Additions quest chapter, the Black Quartz quest "Welcome to Actually Additions!" quest comes before the Atomic Reconstructor quest, so it's an early goal. Two more quests, "Piglin Trading" quest and "Black Quartz" quest, ask for it in the resources chapter.[3][12]

One route is an AE2 transform recipe added by the pack that uses Grains of Infinity from Ender IO.[7]

You can also smelt a Black Quartz GeOre Shard from GeOre into Black Quartz. A blasting recipe does the same job.[7]

A third route is a Create Sifter recipe added by the pack, which works on Crushed Netherrack and uses a Mechanical Blazing Mesh. It also drops Soulium Dust among other things.[7]

Farming Actually Additions crops in a Cloche

The pack added Immersive Engineering Cloche recipes for Canola Plant, Rice Plant and Coffee Beans. Each crop has a version for soils from other mods, such as Primogel Soil, Insanium Farmland and Rich Soil. The example below shows the pattern.[7]

Crystals and parts in pack progression items

Some pack-added recipes use Actually Additions items as ingredients for items from other mods. The Ender Transmitter is made in a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber and needs the Range Booster along with several Ender IO parts.[7]

Two more pack-added recipes use an Actually Additions crystal. The Gate Pearl recipe uses an Empowered Void Crystal. Prismatic Xychorium is made in an Industrial Foregoing dissolution chamber and uses an Empowered Diamatine Crystal. Both recipes are shown below.[7]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Actually Additions?

6 parts

Most of the Actually Additions quests live in one chapter, called actually_additions. A few of the mod's items also show up in two other chapters. The quests in this chapter have no titles, so I'll point to them by quest reference and by the item they ask for.[3][8][12]

Where the chapter starts

Six quests have no prerequisites, so you can start any of them right away:[3]

The lens branch

Finishing the lens quest opens five more quests, one per special lens: "Lens of Certain Death" quest for the Lens of Certain Death, "Lens of the Miner" quest for the Lens of the Miner, "Lens of Color" quest for the Lens of Color, "Lens of Disenchanting" quest for the Lens of Disenchanting and "Lens of Detonation" quest for the Lens of Detonation.[3]

The Atomic Reconstructor hub

The black quartz quest leads to "Atomic Reconstructor" quest, which asks for the Atomic Reconstructor. This is the main gate of the chapter, because most of the other quests unlock only after it:[3]

Canola and drill follow-ups

The canola line needs both the reconstructor and the canola quest. "Canola Press" quest (the Canola Press) and "Crystallized Canola Seeds" quest (the Crystallized Canola Seeds) both wait for them. "Fermenting Barrel" quest then asks for the Fermenting Barrel after the press. "Empowered Canola Seeds" quest asks for Empowered Canola Seeds and needs both the crystallized seed quest and the empowerer quest.[3]

On the drill side, "Drill Augments" quest comes after the drill quest and accepts any one of the drill augments, for example the Drill Speed Augment I, Drill Silk Touch Augment or Drill Area Augment II.[3]

The Empowerer branch

The last tier opens once the empowerer quest is done:[3]

Quests in other chapters

The resources_and_you chapter has a quest in "First Materials", which asks for the Lens of the Miner again. "Piglin Trading" quest asks for vanilla quartz, Black Quartz and a gold ingot. "Black Quartz" quest asks for more black quartz, after two other quests that aren't part of this mod.[12]

The useful_items_tips chapter has "On A STICK!" quest for the Crafting Table On A Stick. "All-In-One Tools" quest accepts any AIOT tool, from the Wooden AIOT up to the Netherite AIOT.[8]

Which Actually Additions config options matter?

4 parts

Most of what you'll want to tweak lives in the common config file for the mod. In the pack's copy of that file, each value is shown, and for many machine options the mod default is shown too. Every option below that lists a mod default matches it in the pack's file, so the pack hasn't changed those values.[10]

Machines

Gameplay options

World generation

The pack's config has canola, coffee, flax, black quartz and rice all set to generate in the world. That's worldgenSettings.generateCanola, worldgenSettings.generateCoffee, worldgenSettings.generateFlax, worldgenSettings.generateQuartz and worldgenSettings.generateRice, all set to true.[10]

Quality of life

What changed in Actually Additions between versions?

4 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships with Actually Additions 1.3.26 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. Here are the changes from the mod's own changelogs for the releases I have notes on, newest first.[2]

1.3.26 (the version in this pack)

  • Opening the booklet without Patchouli installed now shows a warning.[13]
  • The Infrared Engineer Goggles now make mobs glow, which they weren't doing before.[13]
  • The farmer no longer overrides custom soil with regular farmland.[13]

1.3.25 and 1.3.24

  • 1.3.25 fixes a crash when you manually summon the snail and adds the snail's missing lang key.[14]
  • 1.3.25 also sets the Vertical Digger's checkY to the minimum build height on first load.[14]
  • 1.3.24 marks the coffee item as non-repairable.[15]
  • 1.3.24 reworks the drill screen. You can't insert a higher tier upgrade without the lower tier installed, you can't remove a lower tier upgrade while a higher tier is still installed, and you can't install duplicate upgrades.[15]

1.3.22 and 1.3.21

  • 1.3.22 fixes the alignment of the Atomic Reconstructor JEI categories.[16]
  • 1.3.22 changes the Feeder's redstone output. It's now based on how many animals are nearby compared with the maximum it can feed.[16]
  • 1.3.22 fixes the configuration and filters on the Void Sack, which weren't working.[16]
  • 1.3.21 fixes invalid Crushing recipes and bowl pickup issues.[17]
  • 1.3.21 makes Crystal Clusters directional and adds a recipe for the Smooth Black Quartz Block.[17]
  • 1.3.21 changes advancement titles to Title Case.[17]

1.3.20 and 1.3.19

  • 1.3.20 fixes Rice not generating in the world.[18]
  • 1.3.20 fixes the Mini-torch having collision.[18]
  • 1.3.19 adds a missing Ender Star recipe.[19]
  • 1.3.19 adds null checks to the worm and to other items and blocks, to prevent crashes.[19]
