What is Enchanted: Witchcraft?
3 parts
Enchanted: Witchcraft is a large magic mod about occult practices and witchcraft, inspired by paganism and Celtic folklore. If you've ever wanted to live in the woods stirring a cauldron, this is your mod. The pack includes version 4.2.7 of it.[1][2]
Don't expect flashy magic. There are no fireballs or lightning bolts. You make useful tools, trinkets and potions from everyday items, and the mod avoids GUIs as much as it can.[1]
The four branches of magic
- Herbology: grow your own witch's garden of trees, herbs and flowers to fuel everything else.[1]
- Circle magic: use chalk circles to perform over 45 rites that alter the world, curse enemies or protect your farm from mobs.[1]
- Brewing: make potions and concoctions by dropping items into a witch's cauldron or a Kettle.[1][3]
- Poppetry: craft a Poppet to protect yourself from death, or make a voodoo doll of a friend.[1]
Getting started
The mod has an in-game guide called Art of Witchcraft. One of its ingredients is Belladonna Seeds, which drop when you break grass, just like vanilla seeds. The mod has a config option that makes them drop only when you use a hoe. It is off by default, but some packs turn it on.[1][3]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a dedicated quest chapter for Enchanted. Four quests have no listed prerequisite, so you can start with any of them: "Entering Enchanted" quest is about the Witch's Oven and the Clay Jar, "Toil and Trouble" quest is about the Kettle, "Essential Herbs" quest covers the garden seeds and "Arthana" quest is about the Arthana.[3]
From there the chapter branches out. The oven and kettle quests lead on to the fume funnel and filter, Redstone Soup and Mutandis. Mutandis leads to the saplings and the garden plants. Those unlock the Altar and the Attuned Stone, which in turn lead to the Candelabra, Chalice, Distillery and the poppet-making quest.[3]
The chapter ends with Ritual Chalk, Golden Chalk and the Broom. Those lead to a charged attuned stone and to Flying Ointment and the Enchanted Broomstick.[3]
How do you get started with Enchanted: Witchcraft?
4 parts
Enchanted: Witchcraft is about making useful tools, trinkets and potions from everyday items, with no fireballs or flashy spells. This pack gives you an "enchanted" quest chapter to guide you, and the steps below follow it. A lot of the early recipes are changed by the pack, so the recipe blocks here show the in-pack versions.[1][3][4]
Get your seeds
The first seed quest asks for Belladonna Seeds, Snowbell Seeds, Water Artichoke Seeds, Mandrake Seeds, Wolfsbane Seeds and Garlic ("Essential Herbs" quest). The pack adds Farming for Blockheads market entries for all six, so you don't have to hunt for them. Once you have them, "Anointing Paste" quest points you to Anointing Paste.[3][4]
Right click a cauldron with it to make a witch's cauldron.
Make a Kettle
The Kettle is where you brew, and it unlocks the next quests. Its recipe is the mod's own, not changed by the pack ("Toil and Trouble" quest).[3][4]
Two brews come straight after it. Mutandis is used to transmute plants, and Redstone Soup is needed later for the Chalice and Flying Ointment ("Mutandis" quest, a quest in "Enchanted").[3][4][5]
Witch's Oven and Clay Jar
Next you make a Witch's Oven and a Clay Jar ("Entering Enchanted" quest). The pack changed the oven recipe. The Clay Jar has its own recipe block below, which is where the Soft Clay Jar comes in.[3][4]

The quests after this ask you to collect the fumes: Whiff of Magic, Breath of the Goddess, Horned One's Exhale and others ("Supernatural Scents" quest). Saplings and logs convert into these through byproduct recipes. For example, a Rowan Sapling gives Whiff of Magic and an oak sapling gives Horned One's Exhale. You can also make the Fume Funnel and Fume Filter ("Fumes" quest), and the pack changed both recipes.[3][4]
Attuned Stone, Altar and Arthana
The Attuned Stone is the key to most of what follows, including the Distillery, Chalice, Poppet and Candelabra recipes. The pack changed its recipe, so check the block below ("Attuned Stones" quest).[3][4]

Then build the Altar, which unlocks the Candelabra and Chalice quests ("The Altar" quest).[3][4]

Finally, make an Arthana, another pack-changed recipe ("Arthana" quest). Kill a bat, a creeper or a wolf with it to get Wool of Bat, Creeper Heart or Tongue of Dog. Looting raises the odds.[3][4][5]
How does Enchanted: Witchcraft work?
5 parts
Enchanted: Witchcraft is built around everyday items used in the world, with as few GUIs as possible. There are no fireballs or lightning bolts here. Instead you brew, draw circles, craft trinkets and tend a garden. Here is what the sources let me confirm about how it works in this pack.[1]
Brewing: cauldron and kettle
Brewing works by dropping items into a witch's cauldron or a kettle, so there is no brewing screen. The pack leaves both [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Cauldron Options.cauldron_item_spoil]] and [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Kettle Options.kettle_item_spoil]] at true, so an incorrect item can spoil your brew. Be careful about what you toss in.[1][6]
The recipe viewer lists the witch's cauldron as made by right-clicking a regular cauldron with Anointing Paste. Anointing paste has its own shapeless recipe.[4][5]
Circle magic and rites
Circle magic uses chalk circles to perform over 45 rites. Rites can alter the world, curse enemies or protect your farm from mobs. Rite tooltips tell you what a rite needs: an amount of power per tick, a set of sacrifices, or a time window in which it must be cast.[1][5]
The pack doesn't disable any rites. [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Circle Magic Options.disabled_rites]] is an empty list in the common and server configs.[6][7]
Altars and power
Altars have a range and a power recharge rate. [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Altar Options.altar_recharge_rate]] is a multiplier for altar power recharge, and the pack keeps it at the default of 2. The Altar has its own crafting recipe.[4][6][7]

Machines and crafted tools
The pack changed the recipe for Attuned Stone, and also for the Distillery, Fume Funnel, Fume Filter, Chalice, Circle Talisman and Candelabra. Check the recipes below rather than a mod wiki.[4]

Herbology, poppets and curses
Seeds drop from breaking grass, just like vanilla seeds. The mod can restrict this to hoes, but [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Miscellaneous Options.hoe_seeds]] is false in this pack, so any grass break can drop them. The recipe viewer also notes that mutandis transmutes plants.[1][5][6]
Poppets protect you from death or act as voodoo dolls. In this pack [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Miscellaneous Options.disable_totems]] is false, so totems of undying still work alongside poppets.[1][6]
Crafting Shaped

Curses use their own server settings. Clumsy players have a 0.02 chance ([[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Curse Options.clumsy_chance]]) to drop an item on each swing. Curses whisper at players every 120 to 240 seconds. These are the mod defaults.[7]
Two smaller values are worth knowing. Axes deal 3 times damage against an Ent through [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Miscellaneous Options.ent_axe_multiplier]]. The client option original_cat_type is false, so cat familiars render all black rather than in their original fur colour.[6][8]
How do you progress through Enchanted: Witchcraft?
6 parts
The pack gives Enchanted: Witchcraft its own quest chapter, and the quest order is the best guide through the mod. The quests have no titles, so this section names each one by its ID and what it asks you to hand in. They fall into rough tiers, from your first oven and kettle up to flying gear.[3]
Starting kit
Some quests have no prerequisites, so you can start with any of them. "Entering Enchanted" quest asks for a Witch's Oven and a Clay Jar. "Toil and Trouble" quest asks for a Kettle. "Essential Herbs" quest asks for the full set of crop seeds. "Arthana" quest asks for an Arthana plus Wool of Bat, Creeper Heart and Tongue of Dog.[3]
The pack changed the Witch's Oven recipe from the mod's version, so check the recipe below rather than relying on older guides. The Arthana recipe is also pack-modified. The Clay Jar is made by smelting a Soft Clay Jar.[4]

The seeds quest wants Belladonna Seeds, Snowbell Seeds, Water Artichoke Seeds, Mandrake Seeds, Wolfsbane Seeds and Garlic. The pack adds a market recipe for each of them.[3][4]
Oven, kettle and seed follow-ups
- "Supernatural Scents" quest comes after the oven quest. It asks for the byproducts Horned One's Exhale, Breath of the Goddess, Whiff of Magic, Odour of Purity, Reek of Misfortune, Hint of Rebirth and Foul Fume.[3]
- "Fumes" quest also follows the oven quest and asks for a Fume Funnel and a Fume Filter. The pack changed both recipes.[3][4]
- "Anointing Paste" quest follows the seeds quest and asks for Anointing Paste.[3]
- a quest in "Enchanted" and "Mutandis" quest follow the kettle quest. They ask for Redstone Soup and Mutandis.[3]
Several byproducts have their own recipes. The one below turns a Rowan Sapling into Whiff of Magic, and you need that for the Attuned Stone.[4]

Saplings, plants and the Attuned Stone
After Mutandis, "Witcher-Trees" quest asks for an Alder Sapling, a Hawthorn Sapling and a Rowan Sapling. "Witchy Plants" quest asks for Spanish Moss, Ember Moss, Glint Weed and Blood Poppy.[3]
Once you have the saplings and the byproducts, the next quests open up. "The Altar" quest asks for the Altar. "Attuned Stones" quest asks for the Attuned Stone. The pack changed the Attuned Stone recipe, and it matters because many later recipes use the stone.[3][4]

Altar branch and distillery branch
The Altar opens "Light" quest, which asks for a Minecraft torch, an item the quest data leaves blank, and the Candelabra. It also opens "Chalice" quest, which asks for a Chalice and a Chalice (Filled). The pack changed both the Candelabra and Chalice recipes. The filled Chalice is a mod recipe that uses your Redstone Soup.[3][4]
The Attuned Stone opens "Distillery" quest, which asks for the Distillery. The pack changed that recipe as well. Together with the Anointing Paste quest, the stone also opens "Poppetry" quest. That one asks for a Poppet, a Taglock Kit, a Poppet Shelf and a Spinning Wheel.[3][4]

Distilling and ritual chalk
"Distillery Products" quest comes after the Distillery. It asks for Gypsum, Tear of the Goddess, Diamond Vapour, Oil of Vitriol, Demonic Blood, Ender Dew and Refined Evil. The pack has distilling recipes that produce these outputs. This one, for example, yields Refined Evil.[3][4]
Distilling (enchanted)

Charging and flight
The chapter closes with quests that both follow the chalk quest. "Attuned Stone (Charged)" quest asks for an Attuned Stone (Charged), redstone, glowstone dust, Wood Ash and Quicklime. "Broom Flight!" quest asks for Flying Ointment and the Enchanted Broomstick.[3]
How does Enchanted: Witchcraft work with other mods?
4 parts
Enchanted doesn't just sit in its own corner of the pack. The pack adds recipes that tie its plants, logs and magic items into other mods. Here's what the recipe data shows.[4]
Growing witch crops in the Cloche
The pack adds Immersive Engineering cloche recipes for several Enchanted crops. Belladonna Seeds give you Belladonna Flower, Snowbell Seeds give you Icy Needle, Mandrake Seeds give you Mandrake Root, Water Artichoke Seeds give you Water Artichoke, and Wolfsbane Seeds give you Wolfsbane Flower. Each crop has its own recipe for every soil below, so you can use whichever one you've unlocked.[4]
- Farmer's Delight: Rich Soil.[4]
- Mystical Agriculture: Inferium Farmland, Prudentium Farmland, Tertium Farmland, Imperium Farmland and Supremium Farmland.[4]
- Mystical Agradditions: Insanium Farmland.[4]
- Just Dire Things: Primogel Soil, Blazebloom Soil, VoidShimmer Soil and Shadowpulse Soil.[4]
Cloche (immersiveengineering)

One example from the pack. The other crops and soils follow the same pattern.
Wood processing and Bio Fuel
The pack lets Create cut the Enchanted logs into their stripped versions: Alder Log, Hawthorn Log and Rowan Log. Each cut also gives you Tree Bark from Farmer's Delight.[4]
The pack also adds Mekanism crushing recipes that turn Alder Leaves, Hawthorn Leaves and Rowan Leaves into Bio Fuel. If you're farming Enchanted trees anyway, the leaves don't have to go to waste.[4]
Endgame crossovers
The pack adds a Kettle recipe for the Omega Dragon Egg. It uses Whiff of Magic together with Paracausal Flame, Kraken Shell and Upgrade Productivity 4, so it ties Enchanted's brewing into other mods.[4]
Kettle (enchanted)

Attuned Stone (Charged) is also an ingredient in a pack-added Cognition molecular metamorphosis recipe that makes Primal Essence. The same recipe needs Awakened Supremium Gemstone.[4]

Quests
The named task items in the pack's Enchanted quest chapter are Enchanted items, plus a few vanilla ones like torches, redstone and glowstone dust. None of them is an item from another mod, so the connections above come from recipes rather than quests.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Enchanted: Witchcraft?
3 parts
All of this mod's quests live in a single chapter called "enchanted". Every quest in it is untitled in the pack files, so they are referred to by ID below. Each one has item tasks.[3]
Where you start
Some quests have no prerequisites, so you can take them in any order. These are the starting points of the chapter.[3]
- "Entering Enchanted" quest asks for a Witch's Oven and a Clay Jar.[3]
- "Toil and Trouble" quest asks for a Kettle.[3]
- "Essential Herbs" quest is a seed and crop quest: Belladonna Seeds, Snowbell Seeds, Water Artichoke Seeds, Mandrake Seeds, Wolfsbane Seeds and Garlic.[3]
- "Arthana" quest asks for Arthana, Wool of Bat, Creeper Heart and Tongue of Dog. No other quest in the chapter lists it as a prerequisite.[3]
Order of the chapter
After those starting quests, the chapter branches. Here is the order along each path.[3]
- Witch's Oven path: "Supernatural Scents" quest unlocks after the oven quest and asks for Horned One's Exhale, Breath of the Goddess, Whiff of Magic, Odour of Purity, Reek of Misfortune, Hint of Rebirth and Foul Fume. "Fumes" quest also unlocks after the oven quest and asks for a Fume Funnel and a Fume Filter.[3]
- Kettle path: a quest in "Enchanted" asks for Redstone Soup, and "Mutandis" quest asks for Mutandis. Both unlock after the kettle quest.[3]
- After the Mutandis quest, "Witcher-Trees" quest asks for an Alder Sapling, a Hawthorn Sapling and a Rowan Sapling. "Witchy Plants" quest asks for Spanish Moss, Ember Moss, Glint Weed and Blood Poppy.[3]
- After the seed and crop quest, "Anointing Paste" quest asks for Anointing Paste.[3]
- "The Altar" quest asks for the Altar. It needs both the sapling quest and the fume quest finished.[3]
- After the Altar, "Light" quest asks for a Torch and a Candelabra, and it also has a task slot with no item shown in the data. "Chalice" quest asks for a Chalice and a Chalice (Filled).[3]
- "Attuned Stones" quest asks for an Attuned Stone and also needs the fume and sapling quests done. "Distillery" quest follows with the Distillery.[3]
- "Poppetry" quest needs the Anointing Paste quest and the Attuned Stone quest. It asks for a Poppet, a Taglock Kit, a Poppet Shelf and a Spinning Wheel.[3]
The late game of the chapter
The final stretch runs through the Distillery. "Distillery Products" quest comes after it and asks for Gypsum, Tear of the Goddess, Diamond Vapour, Oil of Vitriol, Demonic Blood, Ender Dew and Refined Evil.[3]
Next, "Circle Magic" quest asks for Ritual Chalk, Golden Chalk and a Broom. The chapter then splits into the last quests. "Attuned Stone (Charged)" quest asks for an Attuned Stone (Charged), Redstone, Glowstone Dust, Wood Ash and Quicklime. "Broom Flight!" quest asks for Flying Ointment and an Enchanted Broomstick.[3]
Which Enchanted: Witchcraft config options matter?
4 parts
Enchanted splits its settings across a client, a common and a server config file. Most of the pack's values match the mod defaults, so there's only one real change to know about, plus a handful of settings worth understanding before you start brewing and casting.[6][7][8]
The one value the pack changed
The server config sets [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Altar Options.altar_range]] to 16, and that file lists the mod default as 32. So in this pack the altar range in that file is halved. Keep your altar setup compact and don't assume the larger default reach.[7]
The common config also sets [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Altar Options.altar_range]] to 16, and it lists 16 as the default there. The two files disagree about what the default is, but both use 16 in this pack.[6][7]
Unverified Which of the two altar range settings (server or common) takes priority in-game is not confirmed by the available sources.
Settings left at their defaults
- [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Altar Options.altar_recharge_rate]] is 2. It's a multiplier for how fast altar power recharges, and it matches the mod default.[7]
- [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Kettle Options.kettle_item_spoil]] and [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Cauldron Options.cauldron_item_spoil]] are both true. Dropping an incorrect item into a kettle or cauldron can spoil the brew, so add ingredients carefully.[6][7]
- [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Miscellaneous Options.disable_totems]] is false. Totems of undying still work normally; the option exists to make poppets more useful.[6][7]
- [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Miscellaneous Options.hoe_seeds]] is false. Modded seeds are not restricted to breaking grass with a hoe, so you can get them from grass the normal way.[1][6][7]
- [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Circle Magic Options.disabled_rites]] is an empty list, so the pack doesn't disable any rites.[6][7]
- [[config:config/enchanted-common.toml#Miscellaneous Options.ent_axe_multiplier]] is 3, the damage multiplier for axes against an Ent.[6]
Curses
Curse settings are also at their defaults. [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Curse Options.clumsy_chance]] is 0.02, the chance a clumsy player drops an item on each swing. Curses whisper to players every 120 to 240 seconds, set by [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Curse Options.curse_whisper_min]] and [[config:config/enchanted-server.toml#Curse Options.curse_whisper_max]].[7]
Client option
original_cat_type is false, so cat familiars render with the all-black look instead of their original fur colour. Set it to true if you'd rather see the original colours.[8]
What changed in Enchanted: Witchcraft between versions?
5 parts
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Enchanted: Witchcraft 4.2.7, so every change below up to that version is already in your game. These are the notable entries from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. Versions without a changelog in my sources are skipped.[2]
4.2.7
- Fixed the time field on rites not working in certain situations.[9]
- Fixed certain kettle recipes failing when the result was collected using a bottle.[9]
4.2.3
- Altars were rewritten from scratch. The developer says there may be bugfixes but can't name them.[10]
- Fixed the stuttery poppet activation animation.[10]
- Fixed using water on a full kettle placing the water instead.[10]
4.2.2
This was the big kettle update. The kettle was rewritten from scratch, and all witch cauldron recipes now use the kettle instead. The kettle's own recipe was adjusted to account for that.[11]
- The kettle has a new model.[11]
- Breaking a kettle with a result in it drops the result.[11]
- Kettles support the standard NeoForge and Fabric fluid transfer APIs.[11]
- Kettles can output their result item through hoppers or the Fabric/NeoForge item transfer APIs.[11]
- Kettles play a sound when a brew completes or fails.[11]
- Added the Curse of clumsy, and curses were rewritten from scratch.[11]
- Fixed Enchanted making Bumblezone's ambient sounds louder, missing textures in the JEI plugin, and cauldrons crashing under certain conditions.[11]
4.2.1
The mod's default altar range was increased by 50%. The changelog says you need to delete your server configs for this to apply. This describes the mod's default, so a config that already exists in your world may still hold the old range.[12]
4.1.8-beta and 4.1.6-beta
- 4.1.8-beta: mutagen info pages now render the blocks rather than their item counterparts, which fixes problems with blocks that have no item. The image misplacement in the mutations book entry was also fixed.[13]
- 4.1.6-beta: added the enchanted:grotesque_immune tag, which excludes mobs from being affected by the brew of the grotesque. By default it includes the ender dragon, the wither, elder guardians, pillagers, evokers, ravagers, vexes, iron golems, wardens, piglin brutes and witches.[14]
- 4.1.6-beta: wood craftables like planks, stairs and slabs now link to their correct book entries, and the book was updated to work with the most recent modopedia version.[14]
