GeOre is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 6.2.3. Geode style resource gathering (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is GeOre?

1 part

GeOre is a resource mod, and this pack ships version 6.2.3 of it. Every resource it covers comes as a pair of items: a budding block and a shard, such as Budding Iron GeOre and Iron GeOre Shard. If you want to produce ores without relying only on mining, this is a mod to learn early.[1][2][3]

Where it shows up in the quests

The pack's quest book treats GeOre as part of its resource progression. The "resources_and_you" chapter has a quest for the budding block of many materials. These include Budding Copper GeOre, Budding Gold GeOre, Budding Lapis GeOre, Budding Redstone GeOre, Budding Osmium GeOre, Budding Uranium GeOre and Budding Platinum GeOre. Many of those quests, for example "Budding Copper GeOre" quest for copper, also include an observation task.[2]

Some budding blocks are gated behind other quests. The diamond one, "Budding Diamond GeOre" quest, comes after a quest in the "the_beginning" chapter that also asks for Budding Diamond GeOre alongside diamond, a diamond mesh and diamond seeds. Emerald, ancient debris, quartz, black quartz and zinc also unlock only after earlier quests.[2][4]

The "resource_generation" chapter moves on to shards, and its quests are grouped by material. "Basic GeOres" quest accepts shards of the common materials such as iron, gold, copper, coal, redstone, lapis, nickel, tin and lead. "Niche GeOres" quest covers black quartz, tungsten and monazite. "Foundry GeOres" quest covers diamond, emerald, quartz, ancient debris, uranium, silver, aluminum, osmium, zinc and platinum, and it also needs the matching budding block.[3]

Unverified The pack files do not show how budding blocks produce shards, how fast they grow, or whether the pack changed any GeOre config values or recipes, so check those in-game before you plan a build around them. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with GeOre?

4 parts

GeOre in this pack revolves around shards and budding blocks, and the quest book points you at both. The resource_generation chapter has quests that ask for shards together with budding blocks, and the resources_and_you chapter has a quest for nearly every budding block. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]

Get your first shards

Start with the basic metals. The quest "Basic GeOres" quest accepts a shard of iron, gold, copper, coal, redstone, lapis, nickel, tin or lead, for example Iron GeOre Shard or Copper GeOre Shard. The pack adds an Xycraft Machines extractor recipe for every shard, so open the recipe viewer on a shard to see it.[3][5]

Extractor (xycraft_machines)

    Recipe id: ftb:xycraft_machines/extractor/geore_shards/iron

The pack's extractor recipe for the Iron GeOre Shard. The other shards have a matching extractor recipe.

If you already have a GeOre block, the pack also lets you turn it straight back into a shard with a shapeless recipe. For example, Block Of Iron GeOre becomes Iron GeOre Shard.[5]

4× Iron GeOre ShardAdded by the pack

    Shapeless (kubejs)

    Recipe id: ftb:geore/shapeless/iron_shard

Block back to shard, added by the pack.

    Turn shards into budding blocks

Budding blocks are what the resources_and_you chapter is built around. It has quests for blocks like Budding Copper GeOre, Budding Iron GeOre and Budding Coal GeOre. For some of the simpler ones, the pack changes the Oritech assembler recipe so it takes the matching shard, an Enderic Compound and an Overcharged Crystal. The recipes I can see for this are aluminum, ancient debris, black quartz, coal and copper.[2][5]

    Assembler (oritech)

    Recipe id: oritech:assembler/compat/geore/buddingcopper

Changed by the pack: the assembler takes a shard, an Enderic Compound and an Overcharged Crystal.

Cast the gem and rare metal budding blocks

The pack adds Productive Metalworks casting recipes for the harder ones. You combine a Void Crystal Catalyst with the matching molten material. That covers Budding Diamond GeOre, Budding Emerald GeOre, Budding Quartz GeOre, Budding Aluminum GeOre, Budding Silver GeOre, Budding Uranium GeOre, Budding Platinum GeOre, Budding Osmium GeOre and Budding Zinc GeOre. The quest "Foundry GeOres" quest asks for shards and budding blocks of these same materials.[3][5]

    Block Casting (productivemetalworks)

    Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_diamond_casting

Casting recipe added by the pack, using a Void Crystal Catalyst and molten diamond.

Budding diamond also appears in the quest in the_beginning chapter, next to the diamond itself, a diamond mesh and diamond seeds. It is also the starting point for the next step.[4][5]

    The special cases

Budding Ancient Debris GeOre is cast from a budding diamond block plus molten netherite, so you need the diamond one first.[5]

    Block Casting (productivemetalworks)

    Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_ancient_debris_casting

Casting recipe added by the pack.

Budding Osmium GeOre also has a route through an AE2 transform, which uses Primordial Assembly, Obsidian Dust, a Block of Silver and any molten ender.[5]

    Transform (ae2)

    Recipe id: ftb:ae2/transform/budding_osmium

    How does GeOre work?

    4 parts

The sources for GeOre cover world generation toggles, spyglasses, budding blocks and a few settings, so that's what this section walks through.[6][7]

    World generation in this pack

This is the big one. In this pack, every vanilla-material GeOre generation option is switched off. That includes General.generateCoalGeore, General.generateIronGeore, General.generateDiamondGeore and the rest of the General group. The mod's own defaults for these are true, so the pack changed them.[6][7]

The same goes for General.generateQuartzInNetherGeore and General.generateBuddingAncientDebris. Both default to true in the mod and are false here.[6][7]

The modded options, like ModdedGeneration.generateAluminumGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateOsmiumGeore and ModdedGeneration.generateZincGeore, are also all false. That matches the mod default. The same applies to the Allthemodium, Unobtainium and Vibranium toggles.[6][7]

Watch out: Since all of these generation toggles are off in this pack, you shouldn't expect to find naturally generated GeOres while exploring. Check the config before you go hunting.[7]

    Spyglasses

Each GeOre type has its own spyglass, for example Copper GeOre Spyglass and Diamond GeOre Spyglass. The pack has changed the crafting recipes for the spyglasses listed in the recipe dump. Here's the in-pack recipe for the copper one.[5]

Copper GeOre SpyglassChanged by the pack

The other spyglasses in the recipe dump follow the same pattern with their own shard.

The spyglasses use a color overlay, and you can tune its strength with the client option Client.spyglassIntensity. It's set to 0.5 in this pack, which is the mod default, meaning 50%. The allowed range is 0.01 to 1.0.[6][8]

    Budding GeOres

The pack adds its own recipes for two budding blocks. Budding Osmium GeOre is made through an Applied Energistics 2 transform recipe.[5]

Budding Osmium GeOreAdded by the pack

    Transform (ae2)

    Recipe id: ftb:ae2/transform/budding_osmium

Budding Monazite GeOre is made in a Modern Industrialization mixer.[5]

    Mixer (modern_industrialization)

    Recipe id: ftb:budding_monazite_from_dusts

Budding GeOre has one special setting, General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre. By default, pushing the block with a piston breaks it, which is the vanilla behavior. Turning this option on overrides that. The pack leaves it at false, so pistons still break budding GeOre here.[6][7]

    Compressing shards

The pack adds recipes that turn shards into storage blocks, such as Block Of Aluminum GeOre and Block Of Ancient Debris GeOre.[5]

Block Of Aluminum GeOreAdded by the pack

    Shaped (kubejs)

    Shaped (kubejs)

4 × Ancient Debris GeOre Shard

    Recipe id: ftb:geore/shaped/ancient_debris_block

Unverified The sources here don't explain how budding GeOres grow or how shards are harvested, and no in-jar guidebook or reusable documentation was available for the mod, so those details aren't covered. They also don't describe any machine, power, fluid or automation features for GeOre.

How do you progress through GeOre?

    5 parts

GeOre progression in the pack runs from shards up to budding blocks, and the quest book lays it out in two chapters. "resource_generation" gets you collecting shards, and "resources_and_you" has a quest for each of the budding blocks you can grow.[2][3]

    The three shard groups

The "resource_generation" chapter sorts the shards into three quests, and all three come after the same earlier quest. The first is the starter group, and the other two ask for a budding block as well.[3]

    Getting shards

Every shard in those groups has an extractor recipe added by the pack, and none of them needs an item input. Shards can also be got back out of the matching GeOre block with a shapeless crafting recipe, which the pack adds too.[5]

Turning a GeOre block back into shards.

      Budding blocks, the early route

Many shard types have an Oritech assembler recipe that turns the shard into the matching budding block, and the pack changed these recipes. The ones shown in the recipe dump cover aluminum, ancient debris, black quartz, coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, lead, monazite, nickel, osmium, platinum, quartz, redstone, ruby, sapphire and silver.[5]

Budding Coal GeOreChanged by the pack

      Assembler (oritech)

      Recipe id: oritech:assembler/compat/geore/buddingcoal

The coal version. The other assembler recipes follow the same pattern with their own shard.

The "resources_and_you" chapter then asks you to hold each budding block. The quests for the early ones (iron, gold, copper, coal, redstone, lapis, nickel, tin, lead, ruby, sapphire and topaz) also have an observation task next to the item task.[2]

      Budding blocks, the later route

The pricier budding blocks have extra recipes added by the pack. Budding Aluminum GeOre, Budding Diamond GeOre, Budding Emerald GeOre, Budding Osmium GeOre, Budding Platinum GeOre, Budding Quartz GeOre, Budding Silver GeOre, Budding Uranium GeOre and Budding Zinc GeOre can all be made by block casting in Productive Metalworks.[5]

      Block Casting (productivemetalworks)

      Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_diamond_casting

Casting Budding Diamond GeOre. The other castings follow the same pattern with their own molten material.

A few have their own special routes. Budding Ancient Debris GeOre is also a casting recipe, but it builds on the Budding Diamond GeOre, so you need the diamond one first. Budding Osmium GeOre also has an Applied Energistics 2 transform recipe, and Budding Monazite GeOre has a Modern Industrialization mixer recipe.[5]

The mixer route to Budding Monazite GeOre.

      Quest order notes

Diamond is the clearest example of the path. Quest "Your First Diamonds" quest in "the_beginning" has a Budding Diamond GeOre task, and the dedicated diamond budding quest "Budding Diamond GeOre" quest unlocks after it.[2][4]

Emerald, ancient debris, quartz, black quartz and zinc each unlock after one earlier quest in "resources_and_you". Quartz ("Budding Quartz GeOre" quest) and black quartz ("Budding Black Quartz GeOre" quest) share the same earlier quest, so you can take them side by side.[2]

How does GeOre work with other mods?

      4 parts

GeOre doesn't live on its own in this pack. Its shards and budding blocks plug into a lot of other mods' machines, and the pack added or changed most of these recipes. Here's where the connections are.[5]

Shards that become other mods' materials

Several GeOre shards can be smelted or blasted into items from other mods. Both furnace types have a pack-added recipe for each of these shards. Black Quartz GeOre Shards give you Black Quartz, Topaz GeOre Shards give you Topaz, and Uraninite GeOre Shards give you Uraninite.[5]

The pack's own materials are covered too. Ruby and Sapphire shards give Ruby Gem and Sapphire Gem. Monazite shards give Monazite Dust, Coal shards give Tiny Coal, and Tungsten shards give Tiny Tungsten Dust.[5]

Coal GeOre Shards have one more use. The pack added an Advanced Coke Oven recipe from Modern Industrialization that turns them into Coal Coke Gem and Creosote Oil.[5]

Making budding blocks with other mods

Budding blocks are where GeOre really branches out, because the pack gives you several machine routes to them. The Oritech assembler has recipes that turn a GeOre shard into its budding block. These recipes are marked as changed by the pack, and they cover everything from Aluminum through to Platinum.[5]

      Assembler (oritech)

      Recipe id: oritech:assembler/compat/geore/buddingdiamond

One example. The other Oritech assembler recipes follow the same pattern.

Productive Metalworks block casting is another route. Pack-added casting recipes use Void Crystal Catalyst plus a molten fluid to make the budding block for Aluminum, Diamond, Emerald, Osmium, Platinum, Quartz, Silver, Uranium and Zinc.[5]

Budding Silver GeOreAdded by the pack

      Block Casting (productivemetalworks)

      Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_silver

Two budding blocks also have routes through other mods. Budding Osmium GeOre can be made with an AE2 transform recipe, and Budding Monazite GeOre can be made in a Modern Industrialization mixer. Both recipes were added by the pack.[5]

Budding Osmium GeOreAdded by the pack

Tip: The Void Crystal Catalyst shows up again and again in the budding block recipes. If you're planning a GeOre setup, work out early how you'll get it.[5]

      Echoing budding blocks

The Echoing Budding blocks from Just Dyna Things connect to GeOre as well. The pack changed their crafting recipes, so each Echoing Budding block is made from the matching GeOre block, and this includes Uraninite. The recipe also needs a Polymorphic Catalyst and an Echo Shard.[5]

      Crafting Shapeless

      Recipe id: justdynathings:echoing_budding_diamond

One example. The other Echoing Budding recipes follow the same pattern.

      Quests that tie it together

The quest book points you at these connections. In the starting chapter, "Your First Diamonds" quest asks for budding diamond alongside a regular diamond, a diamond mesh and Mystical Agriculture diamond seeds.[4]

The resources chapter has a quest for the budding block of each material, such as "Budding Osmium GeOre" quest for osmium and "Budding Monazite GeOre" quest for monazite. In the resource generation chapter, "Foundry GeOres" quest asks for shards and budding blocks together.[2][3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use GeOre?

      3 parts

GeOre shows up in three quest chapters in this pack: resources_and_you, resource_generation and the_beginning. The quests are all untitled, so you'll find them by their IDs. Most of them just ask you to get a budding GeOre block or a shard, so they work as a checklist for the ores you can grow.[2][3][4]

      the_beginning

The earliest GeOre-related quest is "Your First Diamonds" quest. It has several tasks: a Minecraft diamond, a Budding Diamond GeOre, an Mechanical Diamond Mesh and Diamond Seeds. It also acts as the gate for the diamond quest in resources_and_you.[2][4]

      resources_and_you

This chapter is the big budding GeOre checklist. Each quest asks for one budding block. Many of them also have an extra observation task alongside the item task.[2]

These quests have no prerequisite listed in this chapter, so you can do them in any order. Each one asks for a single budding block:[2]

A few quests in the chapter unlock only after another quest is done. The diamond quest "Budding Diamond GeOre" quest (asks for Budding Diamond GeOre) comes after the the_beginning quest above. Four more are also gated: "Budding Emerald GeOre" quest for Budding Emerald GeOre, "Budding Ancient Debris GeOre" quest for Budding Ancient Debris GeOre, "Budding Zinc GeOre" quest for Budding Zinc GeOre, and "Budding Quartz GeOre" quest for Budding Quartz GeOre. The quartz quest shares its prerequisite with "Budding Black Quartz GeOre" quest, which asks for Budding Black Quartz GeOre. The sources I have don't show which quests those prerequisites are or which chapters they sit in, so I can't say more about them.[2][4]

      resource_generation

This chapter moves on from budding blocks to the shards they grow. All three quests come after the same earlier quest, 34C57701B6B07948, which the sources don't describe. Each one lists several GeOre items, and you can pick from the list.[3]

      1. "Basic GeOres" quest is the basic-ore quest. It asks for a shard from this list: Iron GeOre Shard, Gold GeOre Shard, Copper GeOre Shard, Coal GeOre Shard, Redstone GeOre Shard, Lapis GeOre Shard, Nickel GeOre Shard, Tin GeOre Shard or Lead GeOre Shard.[3]
      2. "Niche GeOres" quest covers the rarer trio. It has two tasks: a shard (Black Quartz GeOre Shard, Tungsten GeOre Shard or Monazite GeOre Shard) and a matching budding block (Budding Black Quartz GeOre, Budding Tungsten GeOre or Budding Monazite GeOre).[3]
      3. "Foundry GeOres" quest covers the advanced ores and needs two earlier quests, 34C57701B6B07948 and 1B8BB733ADF897FE. One task takes a shard: Diamond GeOre Shard, Emerald GeOre Shard, Quartz GeOre Shard, Ancient Debris GeOre Shard, Uranium GeOre Shard, Silver GeOre Shard, Aluminum GeOre Shard, Osmium GeOre Shard, Zinc GeOre Shard or Platinum GeOre Shard. The other task takes the matching budding block, such as Budding Diamond GeOre or Budding Platinum GeOre.[3]
Tip: The order above only reflects the prerequisites listed in the sources. The first quest in the resource_generation list is not necessarily the first one you can do, since the three quests have different prerequisites.[3]

      Which GeOre config options matter?

      3 parts

GeOre has two config files in this pack, and the most important thing to know is that the pack switched off a lot of the mod's default ore generation. If you're wondering why you aren't stumbling across GeOres, start here.[7][8]

Values the pack changed from the mod default

In config/geore-common.toml, every option in the General section that controls generation is set to false, even though the mod default for each one is true. Here are the ones the pack turned off:[7]

Watch out: Because the pack disables generation for all of these, don't edit the file expecting a quick fix unless you know what you're doing. Flipping these back to true would change the pack's intended behavior compared with how it ships.[7]

      Modded ore GeOres

The ModdedGeneration section covers GeOres for ores added by other mods, and every option there is false by default. The pack keeps them all at false, so this is not a pack change. It covers ModdedGeneration.generateAllthemodiumGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateVibraniumGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateUnobtainiumGeore, and also options for tin, lead, silver, nickel, zinc, aluminum, osmium, uranium and more, such as ModdedGeneration.generateTinGeore and ModdedGeneration.generateOsmiumGeore.[7]

      Left at the mod default

      • General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre is false, the same as the mod default. When enabled, it overrides the vanilla behavior of breaking the block when it's pushed by a piston, so in this pack that override is not active.[7]
      • Client.spyglassIntensity is 0.5, which is the mod default. It sets the intensity of the spyglass color overlay (0.5 means 50%), and the allowed range is 0.01 to 1.0. It's a client setting, so you can tweak it to taste.[8]
