Powah! is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 6.2.10. A tech mod that adds various ways to generate, store and transmit Energy. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Powah!?

2 parts

Powah! is a tech mod all about energy: generating it, storing it and moving it around. It uses Forge Energy (FE), so it plugs into the rest of your tech setup.[1][2]

What you get

  • Generators: Furnators burn solid furnace fuel, Magmators like the Magmator (Starter) run on hot fluids like lava, and there are Solar Panels, Thermo Generators like the Thermo Generator (Starter), and the Reactor multiblock such as the Reactor (Starter).[1][3][4][5][6]
  • Storage and transfer: classic Energy Cables and Energy Cells, plus the upgradable Ender Network built around blocks like the Ender Cell (Starter) and Ender Gate (Starter).[1][7]
  • Player Transmitters wirelessly charge the items in a linked player's inventory, including armor and off-hand. A normal binding card works in the same dimension, and a dimensional one works across dimensions.[8]
  • The Energizing crafting system uses the Energizing Orb, which needs at least one Energizing Rod within a 9x9 range. The orb itself doesn't need power, but the rods must sit on cables or another FE block.[2]

Most blocks come in a ladder of tiers, from Starter through Basic, Hardened, Blazing, Niotic and Spirited up to Nitro. Higher tiers give you bigger numbers.[2][3][4]

Where it fits in this pack

Powah! has its own questline in the pack's "power" chapter. It opens with "Making Power With Powah!" quest, which asks for Dielectric Paste. From there it branches into separate quests for Magmators, cables, Ender Cells, Ender Gates, Reactors, Thermo Generators, Energy Cells with Batteries, Player Transmitters with a Binding Card, and the Energizing setup.[7]

The Energizing quest "Energizing Orb" quest starts the material progression. First comes Energized Steel, then the crystals in order: Blazing Crystal, Niotic Crystal, Spirited Crystal and finally Nitro Crystal in "Nitro Crystal" quest.[7]

Tip: Powah! has an in-game manual that covers its generators, storage and transfer blocks, functional blocks, items and materials. It's a great reference while you work through the chapter.[1][9]

How do you get started with Powah!?

5 parts

Powah! progression in this pack lives in the power quest chapter. Every quest in it branches off one starting quest, "Making Power With Powah!" quest, which asks for Dielectric Paste. That makes the paste your very first craft.[7]

Step 1: Dielectric Paste

Once you have Dielectric Paste, every other Powah! quest in the chapter opens up. There are two recipes, so use whichever one fits what you have on hand.[7][10]

Step 2: Get a generator running

Next you need some FE flowing. There are quests for two generators that run on heat, and each quest accepts any tier of that generator.[7]

  • The Magmator ("Magmators" quest) generates energy from high-temperature fluids like lava. Higher tiers generate more FE/t and burn fuel faster, with the same energy gained per fuel tick.[4][7]
  • The Thermo Generator ("Thermo Generators" quest) generates energy when placed on top of a high-temperature block or fluid like lava. It also needs a coolant fluid like water to run.[7][11]

Step 3: Cables

To move that power around, you'll want Energy Cables, which also complete "Energy Cables" quest. Heads up: this pack changed the recipe for Energy Cable (Starter), and it also changed one of the two recipes for Energy Cable (Basic). Check the versions below instead of relying on memory from other packs.[7][10]

Changed by the pack

Step 4: Start energizing

This is the heart of the mod. "Energizing Orb" quest asks for an Energizing Orb plus any Energizing Rod. The orb needs at least one rod within a 9x9 range to work. How fast it energizes depends on the number of rods and their tier. The orb itself needs no energy, but the rods must be placed on cables or on any Forge Energy block.[2][7]

Tip: The Wrench has a Link Mode that links linkable blocks like the energizing orb and its rods. Use it if your setup isn't doing anything.[12]

Finishing the energizing quest unlocks "Energized Steel" quest for Energized Steel. From there the chain continues through Blazing Crystal, Niotic Crystal, Spirited Crystal and finally Nitro Crystal.[7]

These materials are worth chasing because the higher-tier recipes, like the Hardened, Blazing, Niotic, Spirited and Nitro batteries and cables, use them.[10]

Step 5: Store your power

"Energy Cells" quest asks for an Energy Cell and a Battery. Batteries charge items while they're in your inventory. You can also shift-click a Battery into an Ender Cell GUI to upgrade the capacity of an Ender Network channel, and any energy stored in it goes to the channel too.[7][13]

Changed by the pack

After that, the remaining quests in the chapter are yours to pick from in any order: an Ender Cell ("Ender Cells" quest), an Ender Gate (a quest in "Power Generation"), a Reactor ("Reactors" quest), and a Player Transmitter with a Binding Card (a quest in "Power Generation").[7]

Unverified The in-pack recipes for the Magmator, Thermo Generator, Energizing Orb and Energizing Rods weren't available for this guide, so they aren't shown here. Check them in-game before you gather materials.

How does Powah! work?

7 parts

Powah! is all about Forge Energy (FE). You generate it, store it, move it around and spend it on charging gear and energizing items. Almost every device comes in the same tiers: Starter, Basic, Hardened, Blazing, Niotic, Spirited and Nitro. Higher tiers hold more energy and move it faster. All the numbers below are the values set in this pack's config.[1][14]

Generating power

  • Furnator: burns solid furnace fuel like coal or wood. Higher tiers generate more FE/t and burn fuel faster, but every tier gets the same energy per fuel tick. In this pack general.energy_per_fuel_tick is set to 30.[3][14]
  • Magmator: generates energy from high-temperature fluids like lava. Like the Furnator, higher tiers produce and output more but burn fuel faster for the same energy per fuel tick.[4]
  • Solar Panel: generates energy in sunlight, and higher tiers generate more FE/t. Any block that stops light above the panel stops its production.[6]
  • Lens Of Ender: apply one to a Solar Panel and it can see through blocks. This pack has general.lens_of_ender enabled, so you get the lens by right-clicking an Enderman or Endermite with a Photoelectric Pane.[14][15][16]
  • Thermo Generator: place it on top of a high-temperature block or fluid like lava. It also needs a coolant fluid like water to run.[11]

The Reactor multiblock

The Reactor is Powah!'s big multiblock generator, and its main fuel is Uraninite. To build one, hold 36 Reactor blocks in your hand and place them in a 3X4 replaceable area. The reactor then finishes building itself automatically.[5]

The reactor has a generation mode that stops it when its internal buffer is full. It starts again once it drops below 70% energy, so it doesn't waste fuel while nothing is drawing power.[16]

Dry Ice is mainly used to cool reactors. You can make it by energizing two pieces of blue ice.[17]

Tip: This pack has changed the Mystical Agriculture recipe that turns uraninite essence into Uraninite, so check the recipe below rather than relying on memory from other packs.[10]

Unverified The in-game guide describes Uraninite Ore spawning deep underground. Whether it actually generates in this pack's world has not been confirmed.

Moving power: cables and the wrench

Energy Cables move power between machines. To change a cable's transfer mode, right-click it with the Wrench in Config Mode. The Wrench has two other modes: Link Mode links linkable blocks like the Energizing Orb and rods, and Rotate Mode rotates blocks horizontally.[12][18]

Each cable tier has two recipes. One upgrades the previous cable, and one is built from scratch. The pack has changed the from-scratch Basic cable recipe.[10]

Changed by the pack

Storing power

Energy Cells are your basic FE storage blocks. In this pack they use these capacity and transfer values per tier, and Batteries and Energy Dischargers use exactly the same numbers.[14][19]

  • Starter: 1,000,000 capacity, 1,000 transfer[14]
  • Basic: 4,000,000 capacity, 4,000 transfer[14]
  • Hardened: 10,000,000 capacity, 10,000 transfer[14]
  • Blazing: 40,000,000 capacity, 40,000 transfer[14]
  • Niotic: 100,000,000 capacity, 100,000 transfer[14]
  • Spirited: 400,000,000 capacity, 400,000 transfer[14]
  • Nitro: 2,000,000,000 capacity, 2,000,000 transfer[14]

Batteries, from Battery (Starter) up to Battery (Nitro), charge items while they sit in your inventory. The Energy Discharger works the other way round: it drains FE out of charged items into its internal buffer, and you can pull that energy back out with cables and reuse it.[13][20]

Changed by the pack

The Ender Network

The Ender Network is Powah!'s wireless storage. An Ender Cell stores energy in a specific channel of its owner's ender network. You can reach that channel's energy from anywhere in the world, as long as the Ender Cell you're using has an active channel with a valid capacity.[21]

To give a channel capacity, shift-click a Battery or an Energy Cell into an Ender Cell's GUI. Any energy already stored in it is added to the channel too. Ender Gates move energy between an adjacent block and the network, but unlike Ender Cells you can't upgrade the network from them.[13][19][22]

  • Starter: 1 channel. Ender Cell transfer 1,000, Ender Gate transfer 500[14]
  • Basic: 2 channels. Ender Cell transfer 4,000, Ender Gate transfer 2,000[14]
  • Hardened: 3 channels. Ender Cell transfer 10,000, Ender Gate transfer 5,000[14]
  • Blazing: 5 channels. Ender Cell transfer 40,000, Ender Gate transfer 20,000[14]
  • Niotic: 7 channels. Ender Cell transfer 100,000, Ender Gate transfer 50,000[14]
  • Spirited: 9 channels. Ender Cell transfer 400,000, Ender Gate transfer 200,000[14]
  • Nitro: 12 channels. Ender Cell transfer 2,000,000, Ender Gate transfer 1,000,000[14]

Charging your gear

The Energy Hopper charges chargeable items inside an adjacent inventory, like a chest. Its charging rate in this pack runs from 500 at Starter to 1,000,000 at Nitro, the same steps as the cables.[14][23]

The Player Transmitter charges items in a linked player's inventory wirelessly, including armor slots and the off-hand. A normal Binding Card works anywhere in the same dimension, and a Dimensional Binding Card works across dimensions. Either way, right-click the card to bind it to yourself before you put it in the transmitter.[8][24][25]

This pack enables general.dimensional_binding_card, so you upgrade a Binding Card by using it on an Enderman or Endermite. The transmitter is crafted with a Player Aerial Pearl. general.player_aerial_pearl is enabled too, so you get one by using an Aerial Pearl on a Zombie or Husk.[14][16][26]

Energizing

Energizing is Powah!'s own crafting system. The Energizing Orb needs at least one Energizing Rod within a 9X9 range. The orb itself doesn't need power, but the rods must sit on cables or any FE block. Crafting speed depends on how many rods you have and their tier. Use the Wrench's Link Mode to link the orb and rods.[2][12]

  • Starter rod: 10,000 capacity, 100 transfer[14]
  • Basic rod: 40,000 capacity, 400 transfer[14]
  • Hardened rod: 100,000 capacity, 1,000 transfer[14]
  • Blazing rod: 400,000 capacity, 4,000 transfer[14]
  • Niotic rod: 1,000,000 capacity, 10,000 transfer[14]
  • Spirited rod: 4,000,000 capacity, 40,000 transfer[14]
  • Nitro rod: 20,000,000 capacity, 200,000 transfer[14]

Two fun examples of energizing: a snowball becomes a Charged Snowball, which summons lightning where it lands or on the mob it hits, and two blue ice become Dry Ice for your reactor.[17][27]

Unverified This pack sets the energizing energy ratio option to 1, but the sources don't explain exactly how this option changes energizing costs.

How do you progress through Powah!?

4 parts

Powah! runs on a tier ladder, and almost every machine, cable and storage block comes in each step of it: Starter, Basic, Hardened, Blazing, Niotic, Spirited and Nitro. Take Magmator (Starter) as an example: it goes all the way up to Magmator (Nitro), and batteries, energy cells, ender cells, ender gates, energizing rods, reactors, thermo generators and player transmitters follow the same ladder.[7][10]

Getting started in the quests

The pack's power chapter opens with one gate quest, "Making Power With Powah!" quest, which asks for Dielectric Paste. Once you've made some, the rest of the chapter opens up at the same time, so you can pick whichever branch fits your base. Dielectric Paste has two recipes in this pack, so check both and use whichever one is easier for you.[7][10]

These are the quests that unlock after the Dielectric Paste quest:[7]

Tip: Every one of these machine quests accepts any tier of the item. Your first Starter version counts, so you never have to rush a higher tier just to tick a quest off.[7]

The Energizing path

The Energizing Orb is the core of Powah! progression. It energizes items, and it needs at least one Energizing Rod within a 9X9 range to work. The orb itself doesn't use power, but the rods must be placed on cables or on another Forge Energy block. Energizing speed depends on how many rods you have and on their tier, because higher-tier rods have a higher I/O rate.[2]

After the energizing quest, the pack sends you up the material chain one step at a time. Each quest unlocks only after the one before it:[7]

  1. "Energized Steel" quest: make Energized Steel.[7]
  2. "Blazing Crystal" quest: make Blazing Crystal.[7]
  3. "Niotic Crystal" quest: make Niotic Crystal.[7]
  4. "Spirited Crystal" quest: make Spirited Crystal.[7]
  5. "Nitro Crystal" quest: make Nitro Crystal, the top-tier material.[7]

Unverified The provided sources don't show the Energizing Orb recipes for Energized Steel or the crystals, so exactly how much power and which inputs each one needs is unconfirmed here. Check the orb's recipes in JEI in-game. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How the tiers stack up

Most tiered items are upgrades: the recipe for each tier uses the previous tier's version of the same item. For example, Battery (Hardened) is made from Battery (Basic), and Energizing Rod (Blazing) is made from Energizing Rod (Hardened). The Hardened tier is gated by Energized Steel. From Blazing onward, each tier needs its own crystal: Blazing Crystal, Niotic Crystal, Spirited Crystal and Nitro Crystal. Each tier also has its own capacitor, from Hardened Capacitor up to Nitro Capacitor.[10]

Cables have a shortcut. From Hardened up, a second recipe lets you craft a tier directly from that tier's material, so you don't need the previous cable.[10]

Moving up a tier pays off. Higher-tier Magmators generate more FE/t and have a higher energy output. They also burn fuel faster, while getting the same energy per fuel tick.[4]

Early recipes changed by the pack

This pack has changed several Starter and Basic recipes from the Powah! defaults. The affected items are the Starter and Basic energy cables, the Basic battery, the Basic energy cell and the Starter and Basic ender cells. Don't rely on the default recipes from other guides for these items. The recipes below are the versions used in this pack.[10]

How does Powah! work with other mods?

2 parts

Powah! is tightly woven into this pack. Other mods can produce Powah's crystals, steel and uraninite for you, and several of the pack's custom endgame recipes ask for Powah items. Keep your energizing setup running long after your power grid is sorted.[10]

Getting Powah materials from other mods

Productive Bees has a bee for almost every Powah material. The pack's centrifuge recipes turn their combs into Energized Steel, Blazing Crystal, Niotic Crystal, Spirited Crystal, Nitro Crystal and Raw Uraninite, each with some Wax on the side. The pack has changed these recipes, so check them in-game rather than trusting older guides.[10]

You don't breed or catch these bees. You make them with Powah's own Energizing system: place a configurable bee on the Energizing Orb together with the matching material block, such as a Block Of Blazing Crystal or a Block Of Energized Steel.[10]

The Energized Steel, Niotic, Spirited and Nitro bees follow the same pattern with their own blocks.

Tip: The Energizing Orb needs at least one Energizing Rod within a 9x9 range. The rods must sit on cables or another Forge Energy block, and more rods and higher rod tiers make energizing faster.[2]

Uraninite has several routes. Mystical Agriculture's Uraninite Essence crafts straight into it. The pack also added smelting and blasting recipes that turn a Uraninite GeOre Shard into Uraninite.[10]

There's also an Ender Gate quest, a quest in "Power Generation", which is handy since the Nitro Ender Gate shows up in the Supercritical Mass recipes.[7][10]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Powah!?

3 parts

In this pack, all the Powah! quests are in a single chapter called "power". It starts with one entry quest that unlocks a big fan of machine quests. Next to that, a separate line takes you through Energized Steel and every crystal tier. None of the quests has a title, so look for the item icons in the quest book.[7]

Where it starts

Your first Powah quest is "Making Power With Powah!" quest. It only asks for Dielectric Paste. Hand that in and every other branch of the chapter opens up at once, so the paste is the one thing standing between you and the rest of the mod.[7]

Machine quests unlocked by the paste

These quests all need only the Dielectric Paste quest, so you can do them in any order. Most accept any tier of the requested block, so a cheap Starter version works just as well as a high-end one.[7]

Tip: Do the Energizing Orb and Rod quest early. It is the only machine quest that leads further, because it opens the whole materials chain below.[7]

The crystal progression

After the Energizing quest, the chapter becomes a straight line. Each quest needs the previous one, so you work up the crystal tiers one at a time.[7]

  1. "Energized Steel" quest asks for Energized Steel and unlocks after the Energizing Orb and Rod quest.[7]
  2. "Blazing Crystal" quest asks for a Blazing Crystal.[7]
  3. "Niotic Crystal" quest asks for a Niotic Crystal.[7]
  4. "Spirited Crystal" quest asks for a Spirited Crystal.[7]
  5. "Nitro Crystal" quest asks for a Nitro Crystal, the last quest in the Powah line.[7]

Which Powah! config options matter?

3 parts

Powah! keeps all its numbers in one file, config/powah.json5, and this pack ships its own copy. It covers a handful of general options plus per-tier values for every generator, cable, cell and gadget. Tiers go from starter through basic, hardened, blazing, niotic and spirited up to nitro, and each step raises the numbers.[14]

Unverified The sources don't include Powah!'s default config values, so this section can't confirm which settings this pack changed from the mod defaults. Every value below is what the pack's config file contains.

General options

Generator output

The generation rates show how far apart the generators get by the top tier. Here they are, from starter to nitro, as the pack sets them.[14]

Storage and transmission

What changed in Powah! between versions?

In FTB Skies 2 1.22.0, the pack ships Powah! version 6.2.10, bundled as the file Powah-6.2.10.jar. If you're comparing notes with a friend or following an older video, check that you're on this version first, since that's the one everything in this guide is based on.[28]

The pack's mod list only tells us that Powah! was included in FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 or earlier, so the exact release where it first joined the pack isn't pinned down.[28]

Unverified There are no pack changelog entries or mod changelogs available for Powah! in this version, so specific changes to recipes, balance or features across the pack's releases can't be confirmed here.
