What is Oritech?

2 parts

Oritech is a tech mod built around animated machines, with plenty of processing options, world-interaction machines, logistics parts, equipment and new mechanics. Most machines are animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them with addon blocks. This pack ships Oritech 1.2.10.[1][2]

What you can do with it

  • Run multiple ore processing chains and variants.[1]
  • Set up automated farming machines and electric tools and armor.[1]
  • Move items, fluids and energy with pipes, or send items over long distances with drones.[1]
  • Mine blocks automatically with lasers, such as the Enderic Laser.[1][3]
  • Augment yourself with cybernetics and build Particle Accelerators.[1]
  • Generate power in different ways, from burning fossil fuels to running sustainable biofuel farms.[1]

A core design idea is that there are usually several ways to get the same thing, so you rarely hit a roadblock that needs one rare item. For example, plastic can come from farming items or from oil processing. The mod also aims for renewable fuel and items through large automated farms, and each pipe type has only one tier.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack gives Oritech its own quest chapter. It opens with a Primitive or Basic Machine Core ("Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" quest) and with a Magnetic Coil plus a Motor ("Core Crafting Components" quest).[3]

The coil and motor quest leads to your first machines: the Foundry, Basic Generator, Powered Furnace, Pulverizer, Tree Cutter, Centrifuge and Pump.[3]

The machine core quest leads to the Machine Addon Extender, which unlocks the addon quests such as speed, efficiency, capacitor and yield addons. It also leads to the pipes and the Pipe Wrench.[3]

Further along, the Foundry leads to the Adamant Ingot, and that leads to the Assembler. The Assembler then leads to the Enderic Lens and the Processing Unit. Carbon fibre, the Cybernetic Augmentation Center and the research stations also have quests.[3]

Unverified The quest list available for this guide was cut off, so later Oritech quests (and how they connect to the rest of the pack's progression) are not confirmed here.

How do you get started with Oritech?

4 parts

Oritech is a tech mod built around animated multiblock machines, with upgrades added through addon blocks. This pack gives it its own quest chapter, and the early quests show a clear order to work in. Here is how I'd follow it.[1][3]

Step 1: Nickel, a machine core, then the coil and motor

  1. Get some nickel first. The mod's first advancement asks for raw nickel, and nickel ingots go into both the magnetic coil and the motor recipes.[4][5]
  2. Make a machine core. The quest "Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" quest accepts either a Primitive Machine Core or a Basic Machine Core. It is the way into the addon and pipe quests.[3]
  3. Make a Magnetic Coil and a Motor. Quest "Core Crafting Components" quest asks for both, and many of the early machine quests come after it.[3]

The Motor is also listed as an Assembler recipe.

Step 2: Pick your first machines

After the coil and motor quest, these machine quests open up. You don't need to do them in a strict order.[3]

Step 3: Adamant and the Assembler

After the Foundry, the quest line asks for an Adamant Ingot, and that in turn leads to the Assembler. You can also smelt or blast Adamant Dust into an ingot.[3][5]

With the Assembler you can work towards the Enderic Lens and the Processing Unit. The Processing Unit quest also needs another quest, 76120A38BC49FB92, which these sources do not describe. Carbon fibre, which the Processing Unit needs, can be made in the Centrifuge from coal dust.[3][5]

Step 4: Addons and pipes

From the machine core, the Machine Addon Extender quest "Machine Customization!" quest opens the addon quests: speed, efficiency, yield, capacitor, acceptor, quarry and more. The core also leads to the pipe quest, which asks for an item, fluid or energy pipe plus the Pipe Wrench.[3]

Tip: This pack changed several Oritech compat recipes, for example the Enderic Compound and Fluxite routes and the adamant and biosteel alloying. Check the recipe viewer instead of relying on what you remember from the base mod.[5]

How does Oritech work?

8 parts

Oritech machines are mostly animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them with addon blocks. The mod also keeps logistics simple: pipe blocks only get block entities where they are needed (for example, where they connect to machines), and the networks are cached. Below is what the pack's files confirm about power, fluids, items and addons.[1]

Generators in this pack

The pack makes several generators much stronger than the mod's defaults. These are the changed values from the pack's config.[6]

The steam engine settings are the mod defaults in this pack. Its steam capacity is 8 buckets (machineSettings.generators.steamEngineData.steamBoilerCapacityBuckets), and it makes 1 energy per steam unit (machineSettings.generators.steamEngineData.steamToRfRatio). With machineSettings.generators.steamEngineData.stopOnEnergyFull on, it stops when its energy storage is full. For generators with the steam addon, machineSettings.generators.steamEngineData.rfToSteamRatio is 2 droplets of steam per the usual RF.[6]

Moving energy

There is only one tier of each pipe type. The energy pipe moves 10,000 RF/t (logistics.energyPipeTransferRate), which is the mod default, so the pack has not changed it. Superconductor cables are far faster, at 4,194,304 RF/t (logistics.superConductorTransferRate).[1][6]

For long distances, use the Energy Transmission Pole. The config sets the separation between poles to a minimum of 50 (logistics.poleConfig.minRange) and a maximum of 1,000 (logistics.poleConfig.maxRange). The pole's transmission rate and capacity is 1,000,000 RF/t (logistics.poleConfig.energyCapacity).[5][6]

Fluids and items

A Fluid Pipe extracts 0.5 buckets per cycle (logistics.fluidPipeExtractAmountBuckets), with one cycle every 3 ticks (logistics.fluidPipeExtractIntervalDuration). Each pipe has an internal buffer of 2 buckets (logistics.fluidPipeInternalStorageBuckets). All of these are the mod defaults.[5][6]

The pack changes how you craft the fluid pipe and the Pump, through their Ender IO compat recipes. The recipes below are the in-pack ones.[5]

The Opaque Item Pipe moves 8 items per cycle (logistics.itemPipeTransferAmount), with one cycle every 5 ticks (logistics.itemPipeIntervalDuration). Those are also the mod defaults.[5][6]

Addons

Addon bonuses are added together rather than multiplied in this pack, because machineSettings.additiveAddons is true. The Burst Addon has a processing speed multiplier of 8 (machineSettings.addonConfig.burstAddonSpeedMultiplier) and a throttle energy multiplier of 1.2 (machineSettings.addonConfig.burstAddonThrottleMultiplier).[5][6]

Arcane and late-game systems

The Tainted Refinery gets bonuses from the blocks around it. Arcane blocks increase energy efficiency, and sculk blocks increase the output multiplier. To create a Tainted Refinery, you explode a Refinery near a soul-charged Catalyst.[4]

The Catalyst's base soul capacity is 50 (arcane.catalystBaseSouls), and each catalyst soul capacity level increase costs 20 RF/t (arcane.catalystRFPerSoul). The enchanter soul cost multiplier is 5 (arcane.enchanterCostMultiplier). All of these are mod defaults.[6]

A black hole has a pull range of 16 blocks (blackHole.pullRange), and the unstable container has a base capacity of 20,000,000 RF (blackHole.unstableContainerBaseCapacity). The cybernetic station has a maximum energy storage of 500,000,000 (augments.augmenterMaxEnergy).[6]

Player augments

Oritech also adds cybernetic augments for the player. Several of them can be switched on and off from the augment interface, including the magnet, night vision and ore finder. Others are always on, such as the +4 armor points from the armor augment and the 25% movement speed increase from the speed boost augment.[1][4]

How do you progress through Oritech?

6 parts

Oritech has its own quest chapter in this pack, and the quest order is a handy way to see how the mod fits together. Each step below follows the quest dependencies, so you can see what comes after what. The quests have no titles, so each one is linked by its task item.[3]

Stage 1: Cores, coils and motors

The chapter opens with two parallel quests. One asks for a Primitive Machine Core or Basic Machine Core ("Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" quest). The other asks for a Magnetic Coil and a Motor ("Core Crafting Components" quest).[3]

The coil and motor quest opens the basic machine branch: Foundry, Basic Generator, Powered Furnace, Pulverizer, Tree Cutter, Centrifuge and Pump.[3]

The core quest leads to the Machine Addon Extender ("Machine Customization!" quest) and to pipes with the Pipe Wrench. The Pipe Booster comes after the pipes.[3]

Stage 2: Addons and power

The Machine Addon Extender unlocks the addon quests: Control Unit, Quarry, Inventory Proxy, Acceptor, Capacitor, Speed, Efficiency, Yield and Hunter. The Acceptor, Capacitor, Speed and Efficiency quests also accept tier 2 to tier 9 versions of the addon from the oritechthings namespace.[3]

Power goes through the Basic Generator. After it come the Lava Generator, the Equipment Charger, the Portable Energy Storage and the Steam Boiler Addon. The Steam Boiler Addon in turn leads to the Steam Engine.[3]

Stage 3: Adamant, carbon fibre and the Assembler

The Foundry leads to the Adamant Ingot quest ("Adamant Ingot" quest), which leads to the Assembler ("The Assembler" quest). This pack changes the alloying recipes for Adamant in several compat machines, so check the recipe viewer for what you have installed. The plain crafting recipe is here:[3][5]

The Pulverizer leads to Enderic Compound ("Enderic Compound" quest), and then to Advanced Machine Core. The pack changes the Enderic Compound recipes that use Ender Dust.[3][5]

The Centrifuge leads to Carbon Fibre Strands ("Carbon Fiber" quest). That unlocks Improved Machine Core, the Fluid Addon and the Cybernetic Augmentation Center. After the augment block, the quest chapter asks for the research stations: Cybernetic Research Station, Quantum Research Station and Arcane Research Station.[3]

After the Fluid Addon, you're asked for Raw Biopolymer, then Biosteel Ingot. The pack adds its own Centrifuge recipe for Raw Biopolymer:[3][5]

Stage 4: Processing units, lasers and Fluxite

The Assembler leads to the Enderic Lens and the Processing Unit ("Processing Units" quest). The Processing Unit unlocks the Placer Block, Item Filter, Fertilizer Block, Crop Filter Addon and Nuclear Reactor Controller. The Placer and the Fertilizer Block then lead to the Machine Frame.[3]

The Enderic Lens and Processing Unit together lead to the Enderic Laser and Target Designator ("The Power Of The End" quest). From there you get Fluxite ("Fluxite" quest) and the Enderic Railgun. The pack changes the Fluxite recipes in the Powah and Productive Metalworks compat.[3][5]

Fluxite leads to the Flux Gate ("Flux Gate" quest), the Exo armor set and a Turbofuel Bucket. The Exo armor and the fuel bucket together lead to the jetpack quest. The fuel bucket also leads to the Fuel Generator.[3]

The reactor branch

The Nuclear Reactor Controller has its own side branch. It asks for the vent and heat pipe, the rods with a fuel port, a reflector and a pellet, the heat absorber with the coolant absorber port, the Reactor Wall, and the energy and redstone ports. The pack changes the Plutonium Pellet recipes, so don't rely on mod defaults for those.[3][5]

How does Oritech work with other mods?

5 parts

Oritech is tied into a lot of other mods in this pack. The pack added or changed recipes so that Oritech machines handle materials from other mods, and several pack-made items need Oritech parts. Here are the connections that show up in the recipes.[5]

For background, the mod's own project page lists built-in compatibility on NeoForge with Applied Energistics 2, Create, Ender IO, Immersive Engineering, Industrial Foregoing, Mekanism and Mekanism Generators, PneumaticCraft: Repressurized and Powah, among others. The recipes below are what this pack actually does.[1]

Ore processing with FTB Materials

The pack adds an Oritech ore chain for the metals from the pack's materials mod. The Refinery turns raw materials into clumps using Sheol Fire. The Atomic Forge then turns a clump into a dirty dust using Fluxite. This is set up for aluminum, antimony, copper, gold, iridium, iron, lead, nickel, osmium, platinum, silver, tin, uranium and zinc. Iron is shown as the example.[5]

The Centrifuge also has a pack-changed route that takes Sulfuric Acid from Modern Industrialization plus a copper or gold clump. It gives you Copper Dust or Gold Dust along with Mineral Slurry. The same acid shows up in the pack-changed recipes for the Basic Battery and Advanced Battery.[5]

Applied Energistics 2 and Advanced AE

Ender Dust is how you make Enderic Compound in the Centrifuge. The pack changed both the AE2 and Ender IO compat recipes, and both use AE2's Ender Dust. In the Atomic Forge, Silicon Wafer uses Printed Silicon, and Advanced Computing Engine uses Quantum Processor.[5]

Oritech parts in the pack's own items

Several pack-made items need Oritech components. Bio-Neural Circuit needs a Super AI Chip in both of its recipes. One is the Modern Industrialization assembler version, which also uses Molten Energite. The Advanced AE reaction version takes an energite ingot instead.[5]

Supercritical Mass needs the Low-Yield Nuclear Explosion Device alongside parts from Immersive Engineering, Mekanism and Powah. Mekanized Super Computer needs Prometheum alongside Mekanism parts. Infinitely Compressed Circuit Board needs the Advanced Computing Engine and the Flux Gate in a Create sequenced assembly. Ethereal Essence needs a Plutonium Pellet, and Dissolved Potential needs Strange Matter.[5]

4× End Portal FrameAdded by the pack

Assembler (oritech)

Recipe id: ftb:oritech/assembler/end_portal_frame

The pack adds an Oritech Assembler recipe for the End Portal Frame.

Addons and quests

The Oritech quest chapter also accepts tiered addon blocks from the oritechthings namespace. For example, the speed addon quest has one task for Speed Addon and another that accepts a tier 2 to tier 9 speed addon such as Speed Addon Tier 2. The acceptor, capacitor and efficiency addon quests work the same way.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Oritech?

5 parts

Oritech has one quest chapter in this pack, called "oritech". Its quests have no titles, so each one is identified by its ID and by the item it asks for. Every task I can see is an item task, so the chapter works as a tech tree: you progress by getting each machine or material in turn.[3]

Where the chapter starts

There are two entry points. "Making Multiblocks with Machine Cores" quest asks for a Primitive Machine Core or a Basic Machine Core. "Core Crafting Components" quest asks for a Magnetic Coil and a Motor. Both unlock after a quest that isn't part of the quest list I was given, so I can't tell you what that one is.[3]

Early machines and addons

Materials, augments and the assembler

Processing unit, lasers and the reactor

"Enderic Lens" quest (Enderic Lens) follows the assembler. "Processing Units" quest (Processing Unit) needs the assembler quest plus one quest that isn't in the quest list I was given.[3]

The processing unit opens several branches: "Placer Block" quest (Placer Block), "Filtering Items" quest (Item Filter), "Crop Filter Addon" quest (Crop Filter Addon), "Automating Crop Farms!" quest (Fertilizer Block) and "Nuclear Reactor Control Panel" quest (Nuclear Reactor Controller). "Machine Frame" quest (Machine Frame) needs both the fertilizer and placer quests.[3]

The reactor controller unlocks the reactor build quests: "Heat Vents & Heat Pipes" quest (heat vent and heat pipe), "Reactor Rods" quest (a rod, a fuel port, a reflector and a uranium or plutonium pellet), "Reactor Heat Absorbers" quest (heat absorber and coolant absorber port), "Designing Your Reactor" quest (reactor wall) and "Energy & Redstone Ports" quest (energy port and redstone port).[3]

"The Power Of The End" quest asks for the Enderic Laser and the Target Designator, and needs both the lens and processing unit quests. It leads to a quest in "Oritech" (Enderic Railgun) and "Fluxite" quest (Fluxite).[3]

Which Oritech config options matter?

4 parts

Oritech has a huge number of options, but this pack only changes a handful of them, and all of those are on the generators. Everything else you will care about sits at the mod default.[6]

What the pack changed: generators

Four generator types have higher output and higher extraction limits than the mod default. Here is each one, with the pack value first and the mod default in brackets.[6]

The fuel generator was left alone: machineSettings.generators.fuelGeneratorData.energyPerTick is 256 and machineSettings.generators.fuelGeneratorData.maxEnergyExtraction is 2,048, both the mod default.[6]

Logistics at their defaults

Pipes and poles are not changed, so you can plan around the stock numbers.[6]

Reactor and particle accelerator

The reactor is at mod defaults too: reactor.maxHeat is 2,000 and reactor.maxSize is 64. Each energy port outputs up to 25,000 RF/t (reactor.reactorMaxEnergyOutput).[6]

Watch out: reactor.safeMode is false in this pack. That means an overheated reactor does not enter a cooldown period instead of exploding; it explodes once reactor.maxUnstableTicks (600 ticks) runs out. Watch your heat.[6]

For the particle accelerator, the minimum collision energy is 5,000 for a nether portal (particleAccelerator.netherPortalRequiredSpeed), 10,000 for an end portal (particleAccelerator.endPortalRequiredSpeed) and 15,000 for a black hole (particleAccelerator.blackHoleRequiredSpeed). None of these were changed.[6]

What changed in Oritech between versions?

2 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Oritech 1.2.10, and Oritech has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from Oritech's own changelogs. These are the mod's releases, and I can't tell you which of them each pack version picked up.[2]

Latest releases (1.2.6 to 1.2.10)

  • 1.2.10 (the version in the pack): fixes world generation breaking with the latest architectury version, and updates translations.[2][9]
  • 1.2.9: adds a warning slider to the reactor UI. The auto-feeder augment now ignores bad food and picks food in a better order. It also fixes fluid extraction issues on NeoForge and machine cores not handling explosions correctly.[10]
  • 1.2.8: fixes the FluidHandler.Drain implementation on NeoForge, which should sort out some fluid interaction issues. Fluid pipes also handle empty targets better, and a crash with the latest oracle index version is fixed.[11]
  • 1.2.7: fixes enderic laser block destruction in adventure mode, an edge case crash with the enchantment catalyst, and adds missing recipe input count sorting to the tainted refinery.[12]
  • 1.2.6: improves large particle accelerator performance and fixes augments not refreshing directly after respawns.[13]

Earlier highlights

  • 1.1.0: adds the Hangar Door block and lets the industrial door be colored. Block API lookup caches improve the performance of pipes and generators. Ore amounts in boulders are slightly reduced, and the pulverizer recipe is cheaper because it uses iron instead of steel. Jetpacks also load with turbofuel now.[14]
  • 1.0.1: the augment hotkey becomes its own separate hotkey, and reactor ports (fuel and coolant) now drop their contents when broken. The crop filter addon is also more compatible with modded crops.[15]
  • 0.19.7: the uranium block gets a slight glowing effect. Machine gantry rendering performance improves, and reactor screens no longer show a hugely inflated produced energy amount.[16]
  • 0.18.1: pumps now only extract the first fluid type they find. Fluid type registration on NeoForge was redone for better compatibility with some mods, and a crash with particle accelerators is fixed.[17]
  • 0.17.3: mining mode for enderic railguns also disables explosive shots. Yield addons are now limited to 3 on enderic lasers and block destroyers.[18]
  • 0.17.2: efficiency calculations now allow changes beyond -100%, so -100% doubles energy usage. Default assembler, foundry and grinder recipes are faster, and fluid pipes can extract from cauldrons on NeoForge with default settings.[19]
  • 0.16.2: you can extract input fluids from machines by interacting with fluid container items. Nickel ore not generating on NeoForge is fixed, along with an unstable container that deleted blocks.[20]
Tip: Several of these notes change recipe speeds or costs, such as the cheaper pulverizer in 1.1.0 and the faster assembler, foundry and grinder recipes in 0.17.2. Those are the mod's own changes, so treat them as the mod's history, not as confirmed values for this pack.[14][19]
