What is GeOre?
1 part
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
GeOre is a resource mod, and this pack ships version 6.2.3 of it. Every resource it covers comes as a pair of items: a budding block and a shard, such as Budding Iron GeOre and Iron GeOre Shard. If you want to produce ores without relying only on mining, this is a mod to learn early.[1][2][3]
Where it shows up in the quests
The pack's quest book treats GeOre as part of its resource progression. The "resources_and_you" chapter has a quest for the budding block of many materials. These include Budding Copper GeOre, Budding Gold GeOre, Budding Lapis GeOre, Budding Redstone GeOre, Budding Osmium GeOre, Budding Uranium GeOre and Budding Platinum GeOre. Many of those quests, for example a quest in "?" for copper, also include an observation task.[2]
Some budding blocks are gated behind other quests. The diamond one, a quest in "?", comes after a quest in the "the_beginning" chapter that also asks for Budding Diamond GeOre alongside diamond, a diamond mesh and diamond seeds. Emerald, ancient debris, quartz, black quartz and zinc also unlock only after earlier quests.[2][4]
The "resource_generation" chapter moves on to shards, and its quests are grouped by material. a quest in "?" accepts shards of the common materials such as iron, gold, copper, coal, redstone, lapis, nickel, tin and lead. a quest in "?" covers black quartz, tungsten and monazite. a quest in "?" covers diamond, emerald, quartz, ancient debris, uranium, silver, aluminum, osmium, zinc and platinum, and it also needs the matching budding block.[3]
Unverified The pack files do not show how budding blocks produce shards, how fast they grow, or whether the pack changed any GeOre config values or recipes, so check those in-game before you plan a build around them. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with GeOre?
5 parts
GeOre adds shards of metals and gems, compact blocks made from those shards, and a budding block for each material. In this pack the quest book tracks the budding blocks, and the pack adds its own recipes for shards, blocks and budding blocks. Here is the order I would go in.[5][6]
Step 1: Get shards of the common materials
A quest in the resource_generation chapter, a quest in "?", asks for a shard of one of the basic materials: Iron GeOre Shard, Gold GeOre Shard, Copper GeOre Shard, Coal GeOre Shard, Redstone GeOre Shard, Lapis GeOre Shard, Nickel GeOre Shard, Tin GeOre Shard or Lead GeOre Shard. The pack adds an Xycraft Machines extractor recipe for each of them, and the iron one is shown below.[6][7]
Extractor (xycraft_machines)
Recipe id: ftb:xycraft_machines/extractor/geore_shards/iron
Iron is the example here. The other basic shards have matching extractor recipes added by the pack.
Step 2: Pack shards into blocks and back
The pack adds recipes that compress shards into a GeOre block and turn the block back into shards.[6]
Crafting Shaped
4 × Iron GeOre Shard
Recipe id: ftb:geore/shaped/iron_block
Shards go into a block with a shaped crafting recipe.
The block turns back into shards with a shapeless recipe.
Step 3: Work through the budding blocks
The resources_and_you chapter has a quest for nearly every budding block. The basic ones, such as Budding Iron GeOre, Budding Copper GeOre and Budding Coal GeOre, pair the item with an observation task. The quests for Budding Platinum GeOre, Budding Uranium GeOre, Budding Osmium GeOre and Budding Silver GeOre only ask you to hold the item.[5]
Step 4: Cast your first budding diamond
The diamond quest a quest in "?" in the the_beginning chapter lists Budding Diamond GeOre among its items, and the budding diamond quest a quest in "?" in resources_and_you comes after it. In this pack, budding diamond is made by block casting in Productive Metalworks.[5][6][8]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Void Crystal Catalyst
- 900× any molten diamond
Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_diamond_casting
This is the pack's casting recipe for budding diamond.
Budding diamond is also a stepping stone: Budding Ancient Debris GeOre has its own casting recipe in the pack.[6]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)

Later: the odd ones out
Not every budding block is cast. In this pack, Budding Osmium GeOre has an AE2 transform recipe, and Budding Monazite GeOre has a Modern Industrialization mixer recipe. Save these for when you have those setups.[6]

How does GeOre work?
4 parts
GeOre is a much simpler mod than most of what you'll meet in modded Minecraft. The sources for this pack only document ore-themed shards and blocks, a set of world-generation switches, one piston-related option and a client-side spyglass overlay. They describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation, so this section covers only what is confirmed.[6][9][10]
Shards and blocks
Each GeOre type has a shard and a storage block, for example Coal GeOre Shard and Block Of Coal GeOre. In this pack, crafting recipes convert between the two, and they are marked as added by the pack: a shaped recipe turns shards into a block, and a shapeless recipe turns a block back into shards.[6]
Crafting Shaped
4 × Coal GeOre Shard
Recipe id: ftb:geore/shaped/coal_block
Shards into a block, a recipe added by the pack.
A block back into shards, also added by the pack.
The recipes shown follow the same pattern for other types, such as Diamond GeOre Shard, Emerald GeOre Shard, Copper GeOre Shard and Zinc GeOre Shard. Part of the recipe list was cut off in the data available here.[6]
World generation switches
The common config has one on/off option per GeOre type, plus one for budding ancient debris. By the mod's defaults, coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, quartz, quartz in the Nether, redstone and budding ancient debris all generate. The modded types, such as tin, lead, silver and osmium, default to off.[9]
This pack changes that. Every generation option in the common config is set to false, including those that default to true, such as General.generateDiamondGeore, General.generateIronGeore and General.generateBuddingAncientDebris. The modded options under ModdedGeneration, such as ModdedGeneration.generateTinGeore, are false too. So the pack's config does not generate any GeOre naturally.[9][10]
Budding GeOre and pistons
The option General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre is described as overriding the vanilla behavior of breaking the block when it is pushed. Its default is false, and the pack leaves it at false, so the option is not active in this pack.[9][10]
Spyglass overlay
Client.spyglassIntensity sets the intensity of the spyglass color overlay, where 0.5 means 50%. The pack uses the mod default of 0.5, and the allowed range is 0.01 to 1.0.[9][11]
How do you progress through GeOre?
4 parts
GeOre progression in this pack runs through the quest chapters resources_and_you and resource_generation. In resources_and_you you collect the budding GeOre blocks, and in resource_generation you hand in the shards they grow. The shard hand-ins split the resources into groups, and I'll treat those groups as tiers and walk through them in order.[5][7]
Starter resources
The budding blocks in this group each get a quest in resources_and_you that asks for the block itself plus an observation task. The sources don't spell out what the observation task needs.[5]
- Budding Copper GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Coal GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Iron GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Gold GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Redstone GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Lapis GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Nickel GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Tin GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Lead GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Ruby GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Sapphire GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Topaz GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
The matching shard hand-in is a quest in "?". It accepts iron, gold, copper, coal, redstone, lapis, nickel, tin and lead shards, such as Iron GeOre Shard or Copper GeOre Shard.[7]
Black quartz, tungsten and monazite
The next group is Budding Black Quartz GeOre, Budding Tungsten GeOre and Budding Monazite GeOre. They have their own budding quests (a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?"), and a shared hand-in, a quest in "?", that asks for one of their shards and one of their budding blocks.[5][7]
Monazite is the one in this group with a recipe in the sources. The pack added a Modern Industrialization mixer recipe for it:[6]
Mixer (modern_industrialization)
Recipe id: ftb:budding_monazite_from_dusts
Gems and advanced metals
The last group is diamond, emerald, quartz, ancient debris, uranium, silver, aluminum, osmium, zinc and platinum. Each has its own budding quest, and a single shard hand-in, a quest in "?", covers all of them. That hand-in only unlocks after its prerequisite quests are done.[5][7]
- Budding Diamond GeOre: a quest in "?", which unlocks after the starter quest a quest in "?". That starter quest also lists budding diamond among its tasks.[5][8]
- Budding Emerald GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Quartz GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Ancient Debris GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Uranium GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Silver GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Aluminum GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Osmium GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Zinc GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
- Budding Platinum GeOre: a quest in "?"[5]
The pack adds casting recipes for most of this group: aluminum, diamond, emerald, osmium, platinum, quartz, silver, uranium and zinc. They all use the same Productive Metalworks block casting setup, with Void Crystal Catalyst and the matching molten material. Diamond is the example:[6]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Void Crystal Catalyst
- 900× any molten diamond
Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_diamond_casting
Ancient debris is different. Its casting recipe starts from a budding diamond block and molten netherite instead of the catalyst.[6]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Budding Diamond GeOre
- 810× any molten netherite
Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_ancient_debris_casting
Osmium also has a second route, an AE2 transform recipe added by the pack:[6]
Transform (ae2)
Primordial Assembly
4× Obsidian Dust
Block of Silver
- any molten ender
Recipe id: ftb:ae2/transform/budding_osmium
Shards, blocks and spyglasses
The pack adds XyCraft extractor recipes for GeOre shards, and these recipes list no item inputs. Shards also convert both ways with blocks: a shaped crafting recipe turns a shard into its GeOre block, and a shapeless recipe turns the block back into a shard. Here is the pair for aluminum:[6]

How does GeOre work with other mods?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.12.0 guide
In this pack, GeOre connects to other mods through recipes the pack adds, plus a few quests. GeOre shards turn into items from other mods, and several of the budding blocks that grow those shards are made with other mods' machines.[12]
Shards that become other mods' items
The pack adds both a smelting recipe and a blasting recipe for each of these shards, so a furnace or a blast furnace works. The results come from several different mods:[12]
- Black Quartz GeOre Shard gives Black Quartz.[12]
- Coal GeOre Shard gives Tiny Coal.[12]
- Monazite GeOre Shard gives Monazite Dust.[12]
- Ruby GeOre Shard gives Ruby Gem, and Sapphire GeOre Shard gives Sapphire Gem.[12]
- Topaz GeOre Shard gives Topaz.[12]
- Tungsten GeOre Shard gives Tiny Tungsten Dust.[12]
- Uraninite GeOre Shard gives Uraninite.[12]
This is the blasting version. A matching smelting recipe gives the same result.
Coal shards have a second use. A Modern Industrialization advanced coke oven turns a Coal GeOre Shard into Coal Coke Gem and Creosote Oil.[12]
Making budding blocks with other mods
Several budding blocks are made with Productive Metalworks block casting, using a Void Crystal Catalyst and the matching molten material. The pack adds this for the aluminum, diamond, emerald, osmium, platinum, quartz, silver, uranium and zinc budding blocks. Here is Budding Aluminum GeOre as an example:[12]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Void Crystal Catalyst
- 810× any molten aluminum
Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_aluminum_casting
The other casting recipes follow the same pattern with a different molten material.
Two budding blocks have extra routes. Budding Monazite GeOre is made in a Modern Industrialization mixer, and Budding Osmium GeOre also has an Applied Energistics 2 transform recipe on top of its casting recipe.[12]
Mixer (modern_industrialization)
Recipe id: ftb:budding_monazite_from_dusts
The mixer recipe for Budding Monazite GeOre.
Transform (ae2)
Primordial Assembly
4× Obsidian Dust
Block of Silver
- any molten ender
Recipe id: ftb:ae2/transform/budding_osmium

Storage
The pack adds Functional Storage custom compacting recipes that pair a GeOre shard with the matching raw block. They cover aluminum, lead, nickel, osmium, platinum, silver, tin, uranium and zinc, for example Tin GeOre Shard with Block of Raw Tin.[12]
Quests
Most GeOre quests only ask for GeOre items. The one that mixes mods is a quest in "?" in the_beginning chapter. It asks for Budding Diamond GeOre alongside Diamond, Mechanical Diamond Mesh and Diamond Seeds.[13]
The resources_and_you chapter has quests that ask you to obtain a budding block, such as a quest in "?" for Budding Platinum GeOre. In the resource_generation chapter, quests such as a quest in "?" ask for shards instead.[14][15]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use GeOre?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
GeOre shows up in three quest chapters in this pack: resources_and_you, resource_generation and the_beginning. The quests are all untitled, so you'll find them by their IDs. Most of them just ask you to get a budding GeOre block or a shard, so they work as a checklist for the ores you can grow.[2][3][4]
the_beginning
The earliest GeOre-related quest is a quest in "?". It has several tasks: a Minecraft diamond, a Budding Diamond GeOre, an Mechanical Diamond Mesh and Diamond Seeds. It also acts as the gate for the diamond quest in resources_and_you.[2][4]
resources_and_you
This chapter is the big budding GeOre checklist. Each quest asks for one budding block. Many of them also have an extra observation task alongside the item task.[2]
These quests have no prerequisite listed in this chapter, so you can do them in any order. Each one asks for a single budding block:[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Copper GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Iron GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Gold GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Coal GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Redstone GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Lapis GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Nickel GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Tin GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Lead GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Ruby GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Topaz GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Sapphire GeOre, plus an observation.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Platinum GeOre.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Uranium GeOre.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Osmium GeOre.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Silver GeOre.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Monazite GeOre.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Tungsten GeOre.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for Budding Aluminum GeOre.[2]
A few quests in the chapter unlock only after another quest is done. The diamond quest a quest in "?" (asks for Budding Diamond GeOre) comes after the the_beginning quest above. Four more are also gated: a quest in "?" for Budding Emerald GeOre, a quest in "?" for Budding Ancient Debris GeOre, a quest in "?" for Budding Zinc GeOre, and a quest in "?" for Budding Quartz GeOre. The quartz quest shares its prerequisite with a quest in "?", which asks for Budding Black Quartz GeOre. The sources I have don't show which quests those prerequisites are or which chapters they sit in, so I can't say more about them.[2][4]
resource_generation
This chapter moves on from budding blocks to the shards they grow. All three quests come after the same earlier quest, 34C57701B6B07948, which the sources don't describe. Each one lists several GeOre items, and you can pick from the list.[3]
- a quest in "?" is the basic-ore quest. It asks for a shard from this list: Iron GeOre Shard, Gold GeOre Shard, Copper GeOre Shard, Coal GeOre Shard, Redstone GeOre Shard, Lapis GeOre Shard, Nickel GeOre Shard, Tin GeOre Shard or Lead GeOre Shard.[3]
- a quest in "?" covers the rarer trio. It has two tasks: a shard (Black Quartz GeOre Shard, Tungsten GeOre Shard or Monazite GeOre Shard) and a matching budding block (Budding Black Quartz GeOre, Budding Tungsten GeOre or Budding Monazite GeOre).[3]
- a quest in "?" covers the advanced ores and needs two earlier quests, 34C57701B6B07948 and 1B8BB733ADF897FE. One task takes a shard: Diamond GeOre Shard, Emerald GeOre Shard, Quartz GeOre Shard, Ancient Debris GeOre Shard, Uranium GeOre Shard, Silver GeOre Shard, Aluminum GeOre Shard, Osmium GeOre Shard, Zinc GeOre Shard or Platinum GeOre Shard. The other task takes the matching budding block, such as Budding Diamond GeOre or Budding Platinum GeOre.[3]
Which GeOre config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
GeOre has two config files in this pack, and the most important thing to know is that the pack switched off a lot of the mod's default ore generation. If you're wondering why you aren't stumbling across GeOres, start here.[16][17]
Values the pack changed from the mod default
In config/geore-common.toml, every option in the General section that controls generation is set to false, even though the mod default for each one is true. Here are the ones the pack turned off:[17]
- General.generateCoalGeore, General.generateCopperGeore, General.generateIronGeore and General.generateGoldGeore are all false in this pack (default true).[17]
- General.generateDiamondGeore, General.generateEmeraldGeore, General.generateLapisGeore and General.generateRedstoneGeore are all false in this pack (default true).[17]
- General.generateQuartzGeore and General.generateQuartzInNetherGeore are both false, so Quartz GeOre is off in both cases (default true for each).[17]
- General.generateBuddingAncientDebris is false in this pack (default true).[17]
Modded ore GeOres
The ModdedGeneration section covers GeOres for ores added by other mods, and every option there is false by default. The pack keeps them all at false, so this is not a pack change. It covers ModdedGeneration.generateAllthemodiumGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateVibraniumGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateUnobtainiumGeore, and also options for tin, lead, silver, nickel, zinc, aluminum, osmium, uranium and more, such as ModdedGeneration.generateTinGeore and ModdedGeneration.generateOsmiumGeore.[17]
Left at the mod default
- General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre is false, the same as the mod default. When enabled, it overrides the vanilla behavior of breaking the block when it's pushed by a piston, so in this pack that override is not active.[17]
- Client.spyglassIntensity is 0.5, which is the mod default. It sets the intensity of the spyglass color overlay (0.5 means 50%), and the allowed range is 0.01 to 1.0. It's a client setting, so you can tweak it to taste.[16]
