What is GeOre?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

GeOre is a resource mod, and this pack ships version 6.2.3 of it. Every resource it covers comes as a pair of items: a budding block and a shard, such as Budding Iron GeOre and Iron GeOre Shard. If you want to produce ores without relying only on mining, this is a mod to learn early.[1][2][3]

Where it shows up in the quests

The pack's quest book treats GeOre as part of its resource progression. The "resources_and_you" chapter has a quest for the budding block of many materials. These include Budding Copper GeOre, Budding Gold GeOre, Budding Lapis GeOre, Budding Redstone GeOre, Budding Osmium GeOre, Budding Uranium GeOre and Budding Platinum GeOre. Many of those quests, for example a quest in "?" for copper, also include an observation task.[2]

Some budding blocks are gated behind other quests. The diamond one, a quest in "?", comes after a quest in the "the_beginning" chapter that also asks for Budding Diamond GeOre alongside diamond, a diamond mesh and diamond seeds. Emerald, ancient debris, quartz, black quartz and zinc also unlock only after earlier quests.[2][4]

The "resource_generation" chapter moves on to shards, and its quests are grouped by material. a quest in "?" accepts shards of the common materials such as iron, gold, copper, coal, redstone, lapis, nickel, tin and lead. a quest in "?" covers black quartz, tungsten and monazite. a quest in "?" covers diamond, emerald, quartz, ancient debris, uranium, silver, aluminum, osmium, zinc and platinum, and it also needs the matching budding block.[3]

Unverified The pack files do not show how budding blocks produce shards, how fast they grow, or whether the pack changed any GeOre config values or recipes, so check those in-game before you plan a build around them. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with GeOre?

4 parts

GeOre in this pack is built around budding blocks and the shards they give you. The resources_and_you quest chapter has a quest for each budding block, for example Budding Iron GeOre, Budding Copper GeOre and Budding Platinum GeOre. Many of the early ones also include an observation task. So a good first goal is simply to work through that chapter.[5]

Step 1: Get your first budding block

Your first GeOre quest is tied to the diamond line. The quest a quest in "?" in the beginning chapter has Budding Diamond GeOre among its item tasks. The resources_and_you quest a quest in "?" comes after it and asks for the same block.[5][6]

The pack adds a casting recipe for budding diamond, shown here.[7]

Block Casting (productivemetalworks)

Most of the other advanced budding blocks have their own pack-added recipes too. Ancient debris builds on the diamond one, so it is a later step. Osmium has two routes, an AE2 transform and a casting recipe. Monazite uses a Modern Industrialization mixer recipe.[7]

Block Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: ftb:productive_metalworks/budding_ancient_debris_casting

Step 2: Collect shards

Next, the resource_generation chapter asks you to hand in shards. The quest a quest in "?" accepts a shard of any of these: iron, gold, copper, coal, redstone, lapis, nickel, tin or lead. For example, that includes Iron GeOre Shard and Copper GeOre Shard.[8]

The rarer metals and gems come after that. a quest in "?" wants a shard such as Diamond GeOre Shard together with its matching budding block. a quest in "?" does the same for black quartz, tungsten and monazite.[8]

Step 3: Store shards as blocks

The pack adds recipes to compress shards into GeOre blocks and to break a block back into shards. Here are both directions, using copper as the example.[7]

Step 4: Craft a spyglass

GeOre spyglasses such as Copper GeOre Spyglass and Coal GeOre Spyglass have recipes that this pack has changed from the mod's own, so don't trust recipes from other modpacks. Each one is made from the matching shard.[7]

Tip: The mod's default for the spyglass colour overlay is 0.5, which means 50%. That is the mod default, and this pack's own setting is unverified.[9]

Unverified Not confirmed from the available sources: how to obtain the early budding blocks (iron, copper, coal and so on) for the quests, how shards are harvested from budding blocks, what exactly the spyglass shows, and which GeOre types actually generate in this pack's world. The mod's default generation settings differ per ore, and this pack's values are not shown.

How does GeOre work?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.10.2 guide

GeOre is a much simpler mod than most of what you'll meet in modded Minecraft. The sources for this pack only document ore-themed shards and blocks, a set of world-generation switches, one piston-related option and a client-side spyglass overlay. They describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation, so this section covers only what is confirmed.[10][11][12]

Shards and blocks

Each GeOre type has a shard and a storage block, for example Coal GeOre Shard and Block Of Coal GeOre. In this pack, crafting recipes convert between the two, and they are marked as added by the pack: a shaped recipe turns shards into a block, and a shapeless recipe turns a block back into shards.[12]

The recipes shown follow the same pattern for other types, such as Diamond GeOre Shard, Emerald GeOre Shard, Copper GeOre Shard and Zinc GeOre Shard. Part of the recipe list was cut off in the data available here.[12]

World generation switches

The common config has one on/off option per GeOre type, plus one for budding ancient debris. By the mod's defaults, coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, quartz, quartz in the Nether, redstone and budding ancient debris all generate. The modded types, such as tin, lead, silver and osmium, default to off.[10]

This pack changes that. Every generation option in the common config is set to false, including those that default to true, such as General.generateDiamondGeore, General.generateIronGeore and General.generateBuddingAncientDebris. The modded options under ModdedGeneration, such as ModdedGeneration.generateTinGeore, are false too. So the pack's config does not generate any GeOre naturally.[10][11]

Budding GeOre and pistons

The option General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre is described as overriding the vanilla behavior of breaking the block when it is pushed. Its default is false, and the pack leaves it at false, so the option is not active in this pack.[10][11]

Spyglass overlay

Client.spyglassIntensity sets the intensity of the spyglass color overlay, where 0.5 means 50%. The pack uses the mod default of 0.5, and the allowed range is 0.01 to 1.0.[10][13]

How do you progress through GeOre?

4 parts

In this pack, GeOre progression is steered by quests. One quest chapter has a quest for each budding geore block, and a second chapter asks you to hand in shards from the geore tiers. Below I follow those quests from the early metals up to the late-game materials.[5][8]

First stage: the everyday ores

This is where you start. The shard quest a quest in "?" covers Iron GeOre Shard, Gold GeOre Shard, Copper GeOre Shard, Coal GeOre Shard, Redstone GeOre Shard, Lapis GeOre Shard, Nickel GeOre Shard, Tin GeOre Shard and Lead GeOre Shard. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[8]

The matching budding quests include an extra observation task next to the budding block itself. That covers iron (a quest in "?"), gold (a quest in "?"), copper (a quest in "?"), coal (a quest in "?"), redstone (a quest in "?"), lapis (a quest in "?"), nickel (a quest in "?"), tin (a quest in "?") and lead (a quest in "?"). Ruby (a quest in "?"), sapphire (a quest in "?") and topaz (a quest in "?") follow the same pattern.[5]

Unverified The sources don't say what the observation task asks you to do, or how to obtain budding ruby, sapphire, topaz or the first-stage budding blocks. The recipe dump has no crafting recipe for them.

Second stage: black quartz, tungsten and monazite

The next shard quest, a quest in "?", asks for Black Quartz GeOre Shard, Tungsten GeOre Shard or Monazite GeOre Shard, along with a matching budding block: Budding Black Quartz GeOre, Budding Tungsten GeOre or Budding Monazite GeOre. It unlocks after the same earlier quest as the first stage.[8]

Budding monazite is the only one of these with an in-pack recipe. It is made in a mixer, and the pack added the recipe.[7]

Unverified No in-pack recipe for budding tungsten or budding black quartz appears in the sources, so how you obtain them is unconfirmed.

Final stage: the advanced materials

The last shard quest, a quest in "?", lists shards of diamond, emerald, quartz, ancient debris, uranium, silver, aluminum, osmium, zinc and platinum, with a matching budding block for each. It needs both the earlier quest from the first two stages and one more prerequisite quest.[8]

The pack gives most of these budding blocks a casting recipe added by the pack. Diamond, emerald, quartz, uranium, silver, aluminum, osmium, zinc and platinum all use one. Here are the diamond and silver ones as examples.[7]

Osmium has a second route. You can make Budding Osmium GeOre with an AE2 transform recipe, also added by the pack.[7]

Diamond also appears early in the quest line. The quest a quest in "?" in the opening chapter lists Budding Diamond GeOre among its tasks. The budding diamond quest a quest in "?" unlocks after it.[5][6]

The other budding quests in this stage are emerald (a quest in "?"), ancient debris (a quest in "?"), quartz (a quest in "?") and zinc (a quest in "?"). Black quartz (a quest in "?") also has a prerequisite quest. Platinum, uranium, osmium, silver, tungsten, monazite and aluminum have no prerequisite listed in this chapter.[5]

Shards, blocks and spyglasses

The pack added recipes that turn shards into geore blocks and geore blocks back into shards. That works for most of the materials, including the ruby and sapphire ones. Here is the iron one as an example.[7]

Crafting Shaped

Tip: The pack changed every geore spyglass recipe, including topaz and uraninite. Each spyglass is made from its own shard, so you need shards of the right type before you can scout for that ore. Don't rely on the mod's default recipes. Here is the iron one as an example.[7]

How does GeOre work with other mods?

4 parts

GeOre doesn't stand alone in this pack. Most of its crossovers come from recipes the pack adds itself, which tie geore shards and budding geodes into materials and machines from other mods. Here is how the pieces connect.[7]

Shards into other mods' materials

Several kinds of shard can be cooked, either in a furnace or in a blast furnace, and each one gives you an item that belongs to another mod. The pack adds both the smelting and the blasting recipes.[7]

Coal shards and Modern Industrialization

The Coal GeOre Shard has its own machine recipe. The pack adds an Advanced Coke Oven recipe from Modern Industrialization that turns it into Coal Coke Gem and Creosote Oil.[7]

Making budding geodes with other mods

The pack also gives several budding geodes a crafting route through other mods. These use the Void Crystal Catalyst together with a molten material in Productive Metalworks block casting. That route covers these geodes: Budding Aluminum GeOre, Budding Diamond GeOre, Budding Emerald GeOre, Budding Osmium GeOre, Budding Platinum GeOre, Budding Quartz GeOre, Budding Silver GeOre, Budding Uranium GeOre and Budding Zinc GeOre.[7]

Osmium and monazite geodes have extra routes. Budding Osmium GeOre can also be made with an AE2 transform recipe, and Budding Monazite GeOre is made in a Modern Industrialization mixer.[7]

Unverified The pack also has Lychee item-exploding recipes that use the void crystal catalyst with Black Quartz and Budding Black Quartz GeOre, and with Tungsten Dust and Budding Tungsten GeOre. The recipe dump shows no output for them, so what they produce is unverified.

Where quests tie it together

The quest book hands you budding geodes as goals in the resources_and_you chapter, for example a quest in "?" for Budding Platinum GeOre and a quest in "?" for Budding Monazite GeOre. Some of those quests unlock after other quests, such as a quest in "?" for Budding Diamond GeOre.[5]

In the resource_generation chapter, quests such as a quest in "?" ask for the shards themselves.[8]

In the_beginning chapter, a quest in "?" lists Budding Diamond GeOre among its tasks, next to Diamond, Mechanical Diamond Mesh and Diamond Seeds.[6]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use GeOre?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

GeOre shows up in three quest chapters in this pack: resources_and_you, resource_generation and the_beginning. The quests are all untitled, so you'll find them by their IDs. Most of them just ask you to get a budding GeOre block or a shard, so they work as a checklist for the ores you can grow.[2][3][4]

the_beginning

The earliest GeOre-related quest is a quest in "?". It has several tasks: a Minecraft diamond, a Budding Diamond GeOre, an Mechanical Diamond Mesh and Diamond Seeds. It also acts as the gate for the diamond quest in resources_and_you.[2][4]

resources_and_you

This chapter is the big budding GeOre checklist. Each quest asks for one budding block. Many of them also have an extra observation task alongside the item task.[2]

These quests have no prerequisite listed in this chapter, so you can do them in any order. Each one asks for a single budding block:[2]

A few quests in the chapter unlock only after another quest is done. The diamond quest a quest in "?" (asks for Budding Diamond GeOre) comes after the the_beginning quest above. Four more are also gated: a quest in "?" for Budding Emerald GeOre, a quest in "?" for Budding Ancient Debris GeOre, a quest in "?" for Budding Zinc GeOre, and a quest in "?" for Budding Quartz GeOre. The quartz quest shares its prerequisite with a quest in "?", which asks for Budding Black Quartz GeOre. The sources I have don't show which quests those prerequisites are or which chapters they sit in, so I can't say more about them.[2][4]

resource_generation

This chapter moves on from budding blocks to the shards they grow. All three quests come after the same earlier quest, 34C57701B6B07948, which the sources don't describe. Each one lists several GeOre items, and you can pick from the list.[3]

  1. a quest in "?" is the basic-ore quest. It asks for a shard from this list: Iron GeOre Shard, Gold GeOre Shard, Copper GeOre Shard, Coal GeOre Shard, Redstone GeOre Shard, Lapis GeOre Shard, Nickel GeOre Shard, Tin GeOre Shard or Lead GeOre Shard.[3]
  2. a quest in "?" covers the rarer trio. It has two tasks: a shard (Black Quartz GeOre Shard, Tungsten GeOre Shard or Monazite GeOre Shard) and a matching budding block (Budding Black Quartz GeOre, Budding Tungsten GeOre or Budding Monazite GeOre).[3]
  3. a quest in "?" covers the advanced ores and needs two earlier quests, 34C57701B6B07948 and 1B8BB733ADF897FE. One task takes a shard: Diamond GeOre Shard, Emerald GeOre Shard, Quartz GeOre Shard, Ancient Debris GeOre Shard, Uranium GeOre Shard, Silver GeOre Shard, Aluminum GeOre Shard, Osmium GeOre Shard, Zinc GeOre Shard or Platinum GeOre Shard. The other task takes the matching budding block, such as Budding Diamond GeOre or Budding Platinum GeOre.[3]
Tip: The order above only reflects the prerequisites listed in the sources. The first quest in the resource_generation list is not necessarily the first one you can do, since the three quests have different prerequisites.[3]

Which GeOre config options matter?

3 parts

GeOre has a client config and a common config. The big thing to know is that this pack switches off the natural generation of every vanilla-ore GeOre, which is a change from the mod defaults. Everything else stays at the defaults.[14][15]

Generation toggles the pack turned off

In the General section of the common config, every generation option is set to false in this pack. The mod default for each of these is true, so this is a deliberate pack change.[15]

Modded ore generation

The ModdedGeneration section covers GeOres for ores from other mods. Its defaults are already false, and the pack leaves them false. That includes ModdedGeneration.generateTinGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateLeadGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateSilverGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateZincGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateOsmiumGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateUraniumGeore and the rest of the toggles in that section, such as aluminum, nickel, platinum, tungsten, ruby, sapphire and topaz.[15]

Options left at the mod default

  • General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre is false, the same as the default. When enabled, it overrides the vanilla behavior of breaking the block when it is pushed. With it off, that vanilla behavior is not overridden.[15]
  • Client.spyglassIntensity is 0.5, which is 50% and the mod default. This controls the intensity of the spyglass color overlay, and the allowed range is 0.01 to 1.0.[14]

Unverified The sources only cover the config files, so how you obtain GeOres in this pack now that natural generation is off is not confirmed here.
