Applied Energistics 2 in FTB Skies 2
FTB Skies 2 1.24.0 ships version 19.2.18 · First seen in 1.0.1
Applied Energistics 2 is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 19.2.18. AE2: A popular automation and storage mod (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)
Stuck? Why it might not be working
- AE2 autocrafting: the job sits on Scheduled and never craftsScheduled means patterns the CPU has queued but not yet pushed to a machine; Crafting means outputs already pushed and still awaited. A job frozen on Scheduled is a push that keeps failing, or an output that never came back, and AE2 shows no message for either. It retries forever, so waiting will not fix it unless the cause was a power or channel dip that has since come back.Written for other versions than FTB Skies 2 1.24.0 ships. Some steps may no longer match.

What is Applied Energistics 2?
1 part
Applied Energistics 2, or AE2, is one of the big storage and automation mods. Instead of a massive room full of chests, you store your items digitally inside a compact ME network. That's just the beginning, though.[1][2]
AE2's other headline feature is autocrafting. You set up patterns, and your ME system can craft a whole chain of prerequisites plus the final item with a single click. It can also keep certain items in stock by crafting more as needed. It even works with other mods' machines, so AE2 can tie the automation of your whole modpack together.[2][3]
AE2 is a great fit if you love automating processes and managing resources efficiently. It also adds a channel system that limits how many devices a single cable can connect. That gives your builds an extra layer of planning and organization, so expect some depth.[1]
AE2 in this pack
This pack includes Applied Energistics 2 version 19.2.17. It has a dedicated AE2 quest chapter that takes you from the first materials all the way to autocrafting. Here's the rough order it follows.[4][5]
- Start by getting a Charger and some sky stone, meaning Sky Stone Dust and Sky Stone.[5]
- Get Certus Quartz Crystal and Certus Quartz Dust, then build an Inscriber to make the printed circuits and Printed Silicon.[5]
- Make Fluix Crystal, then power your setup with an Energy Acceptor or a Crystal Resonance Generator. Build a Growth Accelerator along the way.[5]
- "Completing Processors" quest asks for a finished processor, either an Engineering Processor, a Logic Processor or a Calculation Processor.[5]
- From there the chapter branches. "I/O Bus" quest wants an ME Import Bus or an ME Export Bus, while "Cables and Channels" quest wants any tier of fluix cable.[5]
- The cable quest opens up the network core: "Adding More Channels" quest asks for an ME Controller and "ME Crafting Terminal" quest asks for an ME Crafting Terminal.[5]
- "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest asks for an ME Drive and an 1k ME Storage Component.[5]
- Go wireless with the ME Wireless Access Point and the Wireless Crafting Terminal.[5]
- Autocrafting starts with a Crafting Unit. "The Autocrafting Multiblock" quest then asks for crafting storage of any tier plus a Crafting Co-Processing Unit.[5]
- Encode your recipes at a ME Pattern Encoding Terminal using Blank Pattern.[5]
- "Storing Patterns" quest then asks for a ME Pattern Provider and a Molecular Assembler. An assembler sitting on a pattern provider is all you need to automate crafting patterns, since assemblers auto-eject their results.[3][5]
The chapter also has side quests for the Matter Condenser and Singularity, the Cell Workbench, and the ME Quantum Link Chamber with its ME Quantum Ring.[5]
How do you get started with Applied Energistics 2?
5 parts
The pack has a quest chapter for Applied Energistics 2, and it's the best roadmap for your first steps. It starts with two separate quests: one for a Charger and one for Sky Stone Dust and Sky Stone. From there it branches into certus, circuits, fluix and finally your first ME network. Here's that path in order.[5]
Step 1: The Charger
Your very first quest, "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest, asks for a Charger. You need the Charger to make Charged Certus Quartz Crystal, which feeds almost everything that comes next. If you don't have power yet, you can attach a crank to the Charger and power it by hand.[5][6][7]

The sky stone quest, "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest, is worth doing early too. The Inscriber can grind Sky Stone into dust, and the dust can be smelted back into Sky Stone.[5][8]
Unverified Where you first get Sky Stone and certus in this pack isn't confirmed. The standard mod guide says to loot a meteorite, but that may not apply here.
Step 2: Certus Quartz
Next, "A Certain Quartz" quest and "Certus Quartz Budding" quest ask for Certus Quartz Crystal and Certus Quartz Dust. This pack includes a reaction recipe that makes certus crystals, and the Inscriber can turn crystals into dust.[5][8]

Step 3: Inscriber and circuits
Quest "Inscribing Processors" quest wants an Inscriber and all three printed circuits. The Inscriber uses presses to make the three types of processor. It's a sided machine like a furnace: items inserted from the top or bottom go into the top or bottom slots, items from the side or back go into the center slot, and results come out of the side or back.[5][6]

After that, "Silicon" quest asks for Printed Silicon, and "Completing Processors" quest asks for any finished processor. Both are made back in the Inscriber, so make a few of each processor type.[5][6][8]

Step 4: Fluix, power and Growth Accelerators
Quest "Fluix Crystals" quest unlocks after the certus quest and asks for Fluix Crystal. This pack has reaction recipes for it.[5][8]
Fluix leads to "Powering Your Network" quest, which asks for an Energy Acceptor, Fluix ME Glass Cable and a Crystal Resonance Generator. Then "Automating Crystals" quest asks for a Growth Accelerator. A powered accelerator speeds up the growth of budding quartz next to it, and the official guide calls building a few of them your first priority.[5][6][7]

Once you have a processor, the quests lead you into a basic storage network. Work through them in this order:[5]
- Make some fluix cables for "Cables and Channels" quest. Glass, covered or smart cable all count.[5]
- Craft an ME Controller for "Adding More Channels" quest.[5]
- Build an ME Drive and a 1k ME Storage Component for "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest.[5]
- Add an ME Crafting Terminal for "ME Crafting Terminal" quest so you can browse and craft from your storage.[5]

How does Applied Energistics 2 work?
10 parts
Applied Energistics 2 works as one connected system: a network of devices that share storage, power and channels. This section walks through how those pieces fit together in this pack, and where the pack's configs differ from the standard rules.[1][10]
Networks and connections
A network is a group of devices linked by blocks that can pass channels, such as cables and full-block machines. A device's physical position doesn't matter, only which network it is connected to. If you're not sure what is connected, right-click with a Network Tool, which shows every component on the network.[11][12]
Cable color doesn't create separate networks on its own. Cables of different colors simply won't connect to each other, and all colors connect to fluix (uncolored) cables. A quantum bridge acts like a wireless dense cable, so both ends are one network. A Quartz Fiber only shares energy, so it does not join networks.[11][12]
Full-block devices such as a pattern provider pass channels through like a cable. You can make a provider directional so it won't pass channels through one side. That is how you keep subnetworks apart.[11]
Channels
Most machines, full-block devices and standard cables carry up to 8 channels. Dense cables carry up to 32, and so do the P2P tunnel and the Quantum Network Bridge. The pack sets general.channels to "X4". That option changes the channel capacity cables provide, so treat the 8 and 32 figures as the standard baseline. Check real usage in-game with a smart cable, which shows channel paths and usage.[10][13][14]
With a controller, channels route in three steps. They take the shortest path to the nearest normal cable, then to the nearest dense cable, then to the controller. If the shortest path is already full, some devices won't get a channel even when other cables are empty. Build treelike networks: dense cables branching from the controller, regular cables branching from those, and devices in small clusters on the regular cables.[13]
Without a controller, a network is ad-hoc and supports up to 8 channel-using devices. Go past that and those devices shut down, so remove some or add a controller. Channels also cost 1/128 ae/t per node they traverse.[13]
Energy
A network has one shared energy pool. Devices pull from it, and Vibration Chambers, Energy Acceptors and controllers add to it. Because of this there is no transfer rate limit, only your storage. AE2 converts other energy into its own unit, AE, and the conversion is one-way. In this pack powerRatios.forgeEnergy is 0.5, which matches the guide's ratio of 2 FE to 1 AE.[10][15][16]
A network can't take in or use more energy in a single tick than it can store. That's why dumping a whole inventory of cobblestone into a tiny network can make it run out of power and reboot. The fix is energy cells. The network has a built-in buffer of 25 AE per cable, machine or part, set by powerRatios.gridEnergyStoragePerNode and unchanged by the pack. Controllers hold 8,000 AE, an Energy Cell holds 200k AE, and a Dense Energy Cell holds 1.6M AE.[10][15][16]
For generation, the pack leaves the Vibration Chamber at its defaults. It makes 5 AE per fuel burn tick (vibrationChamber.baseEnergyPerFuelTick) and speeds up to 40 AE/t when the energy is being used (vibrationChamber.baseMaxEnergyPerGameTick). It slows to 4 AE/t when energy is wasted (vibrationChamber.minEnergyPerGameTick). A Crystal Resonance Generator makes 20 energy per tick (powerRatios.crystalResonanceGeneratorRate). The guide itself says AE2 is meant to run on power from other tech mods.[10][16]
Energy P2P tunnels charge a tax, and so do tunnels moving items, fluids and other things. powerRatios.p2pTunnelEnergyTax and powerRatios.p2pTunnelTransportTax are both 0.025 in the pack.[10]
Moving items in and out
Network storage is whatever your drives' cells hold, plus any inventory a storage bus points at. Import busses push things into it and export busses pull things out. Interfaces do both, and terminals do both when you insert or take items. Storage busses just make their connected inventory act as network storage. Remember that an item must actually enter the network as an event when you design automation.[3][17][18]
Storage priority is set with the wrench in the top-right of some GUIs. Items entering the network go to the highest priority storage first. If two storages tie and one already holds the item, that one is preferred. Items leaving come from the lowest priority storage first, so high priority storage fills up and low priority storage empties.[17]
Storage cells: bytes and types
Cells are limited by both bytes and types. Each unique item counts as one type, and each item takes one bit, so 8 items equal 1 byte. For fluid cells that is 8 buckets per byte. Every cell tier from 1k (1,024 bytes) to 256k (262,144 bytes) holds 63 types. Each type costs bytes up front, so a 1k cell holds 8,128 items with 1 type in use but only 4,160 with all 63 in use. A full drive bay of cells is 630 types.[9][19]
Types are a deliberate limit, because cell data is stored on the item itself. Filter out piles of damaged or enchanted gear from mob farms before they reach your system. Top-tier cells give you more bytes but no extra types, so smaller cells stay useful late game.[9]
Autocrafting
An autocrafting setup has three parts: whatever sends the request, the crafting CPU, and a pattern provider. A request can come from you in a terminal, or from an export bus or interface with a Crafting Card. The system works out the ingredients and steps and stores them in the chosen crafting CPU. The provider then pushes the ingredients to adjacent inventories. The result must come back into the network by import bus, interface or by being pushed back into a provider.[3][20]
Crafting, smithing and stonecutting patterns are automated by a pattern provider next to a molecular assembler, and all three can share one setup. Processing patterns are the general form. They push ingredients to any machine and the system just waits for the result. A pattern can also ask for more than one at a time, for example 8 cobblestone for 8 stone, and the provider inserts 8 each operation.[3][20]
Autocrafting cannot handle recursive recipes, like duplication recipes or smithing templates. A level emitter with a crafting card can be set up to emit a redstone signal to start a machine, which is the usual workaround for these and for farms that need no input.[3]
The pack leaves craftingCPU.craftingCalculationTimePerTick at 5. Use the middle-mouse "pick block" key to request crafts of items you already have in stock, which can clash with inventory sorting mods.[3][10]
Subnetworks
A subnetwork is just a separate network that supports your main one. Use one to limit what devices can reach, for example so an import bus on a pipe-style subnet can't see your main storage. You can also use one to save channels, such as one pattern provider outputting to an interface that feeds several storage busses. Make sure every device is truly disconnected from the main network, since full-block devices often connect them by accident.[11][21]
Common builds include an import bus and storage bus pair acting as an item or fluid pipe, and an annihilation plane with a storage bus so you can filter what it picks up. Another is an interface with a formation plane, which places or drops whatever you insert into the world.[21]
Spatial IO
Spatial IO swaps a defined volume of your world with the same-sized volume in the spatial storage dimension. It needs a Spatial IO Port holding a spatial cell, plus spatial pylons. All of them must be on the same network, and only one spatial IO setup is allowed per network, so use a subnetwork. Give the port a redstone pulse to start the swap.[22]
The pylons form the outside edge of the volume, which is the pylon bounding box shrunk in by 1 block on every side. The minimum is 3x3x3 (a 1x1x1 volume), and every pylon must be at least 2 blocks long. Filling more of the shell makes the operation more efficient, and minimal setups around big volumes can cost billions of AE. Once used, a cell's dimensions are permanent, and a mismatch with the defined volume stops the port.[22]
The pack leaves the spatial power formula at its defaults: spatialio.spatialPowerMultiplier is 1,250 and spatialio.spatialPowerExponent is 1.35. Energy cells that hold the whole cost are a must, since it is spent instantly.[10][22]
Certus growth and charging
Budding certus blocks grow quartz buds. A bud that isn't fully grown drops one Certus Quartz Dust, while a fully grown cluster drops four Certus Quartz Crystal, and fortune raises that. Each time a bud grows a stage, the budding block can drop one tier, from Flawless to Flawed, Chipped and Damaged, then to a plain block. Throw it into water with Charged Certus Quartz Crystal to repair it. Flawless blocks never degrade.[23][24]
Growth Accelerators placed next to a budding block massively speed it up. In the pack they tick every 10 ticks (crafting.growthAccelerator). Covering sides of the budding block slows the combined growth rate, so don't wall it in. If you can't afford an Energy Acceptor or Vibration Chamber yet, a Wooden Crank on the end of an accelerator will power it.[10][23][24]

In this pack the Charged Certus Quartz Crystal can also be made with an Advanced AE reaction recipe, shown below.[8]
Pack-specific extras
The pack adds extra in-world transform recipes that happen in a fluid, such as lava or molten fluids. It also adds Advanced AE reaction recipes that use energy, a fluid and several items. These are defined in the pack's AE2 script, so check the recipe viewer for the exact ingredients.[25]
crafting.annihilationPlaneSkyDustGeneration is on. An annihilation plane placed face up at the maximum world height generates sky stone passively. Tiny TNT won't break blocks, because general.tinyTntBlockDamage is false, while the Matter Cannon still can (general.matterCannonBlockDamage).[10]
How do you progress through Applied Energistics 2?
7 parts
The pack gives Applied Energistics 2 its own quest chapter. It takes you from your very first machine to autocrafting, wireless access and quantum links. Almost every quest just asks you to get an item, so the chapter works as a checklist of what to build next. Here's the path, branch by branch.[5]
Getting started: Charger and Sky Stone
The chapter has two starting quests. "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest asks for a Charger, and "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest asks for Sky Stone Dust and Sky Stone. The Charger quest is the one that leads into the rest of the chapter, so craft it early.[5]

Certus Quartz and Fluix
Once you have the Charger, "A Certain Quartz" quest asks for a Certus Quartz Crystal and the Charger, plus an observation task. Next, "Certus Quartz Budding" quest wants Certus Quartz Dust and a Certus Quartz Crystal.[5]
The Inscriber can grind crystals into dust, and the pack also changed the milling recipe that does the same job. To get more crystals, there's a transform recipe that uses Charged Certus Quartz Crystal. You can see it below.[8]

How does Applied Energistics 2 work with other mods?
5 parts
Applied Energistics 2 doesn't stand alone in this pack. A whole family of add-ons builds on its parts, and many of their recipes need AE2 processors, cards, storage components and terminals. The pack has changed several of these cross-mod recipes, so check the recipe blocks below rather than relying on what you remember from other packs.[8]
Reaction Chamber and quantum tech
The Reaction Chamber is built from AE2 machines, including a Matter Condenser and a Vibration Chamber. It's worth building early because this pack routes several add-on materials through it.[8]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: advanced_ae:reactionchamber
- The pack changed the Reaction Chamber recipes for Sky Steel Ingot, Sky Bronze Ingot and Sky Osmium Ingot. All three use Charged Certus Quartz Crystal and Sky Stone.[8]
- The pack also changed the Reaction Chamber recipes for Redstone Crystal and Entro Crystal, and both start from Fluix Crystal.[8]
- Shattered Singularity comes from an AE2 Singularity processed in the Reaction Chamber. It then feeds into Quantum Alloy and the Inscriber Quantum Press.[8]

The pack changed the Quantum Crafting Unit recipe. It now combines an AE2 Crafting Unit and Singularity with an ExtendedAE Concurrent Processor.[8]
Pattern providers and buses
The pack changed the Advanced Extended Pattern Provider recipe so that it builds on the ExtendedAE ME Extended Pattern Provider. The smaller Advanced Pattern Provider upgrades a regular ME Pattern Provider. The pack also changed the Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade so that it's made in the Crystal Assembler with a Capacity Card.[8]

Wireless terminals and cards
- You can make the Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal from scratch. You can also upgrade an existing Wireless Crafting Terminal with an Engineering Processor.[8]
- The Wireless Pattern Access Terminal and Wireless Quantum Crafter Terminal can each be combined with the Wireless Crafting Terminal through a combine recipe.[8]
- The pack changed the recipes for the Magnet Card and the Infinity Range Booster. The Infinity Range Booster starts from an AE2 Wireless Booster.[8]
- The Quantum Bridge Card is made from an ME Quantum Link Chamber and ME Quantum Ring.[8]

Storage, energy and computers
Each 1k ME DISK Drive and its bigger siblings wraps an AE2 storage component. You can craft one in a single step, or pair the component with a pre-made ME DISK Housing. The Applied Flux energy components and the 16k ME FE Storage Cell use AE2 glass and processors.[8]
If you use ComputerCraft-style automation, note that the pack changed the ME Bridge recipe. It now takes an ME Interface and a Fluix Block.[8]

Quests
The AE2 questline also crosses mod lines. "Silicon" quest asks for a silicon gem from another mod alongside Printed Silicon. "Storage Bus" quest asks for the ME Storage Bus together with three ExtendedAE storage bus variants.[5]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Applied Energistics 2?
6 parts
This pack gives Applied Energistics 2 its own quest chapter. It walks you from your first bits of certus quartz all the way to autocrafting and wireless access. The chapter branches quite a bit, so here's the path laid out in unlock order.[5]
Getting started: quartz and meteorite materials
- "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest asks for a Charger. It's one of the chapter's entry points.[5]
- "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest asks for Sky Stone Dust and Sky Stone. It has no listed prerequisite, so you can grab it whenever you find the materials.[5]
- "A Certain Quartz" quest unlocks after the Charger quest. It wants a Certus Quartz Crystal and a Charger, and it also includes an observation task.[5]
- "Certus Quartz Budding" quest follows. It asks for Certus Quartz Dust and Certus Quartz Crystal, and the chapter splits into two branches after it.[5]
The fluix branch
- "Fluix Crystals" quest asks for a Fluix Crystal.[5]
- "Powering Your Network" quest comes after it and wants an Energy Acceptor, Fluix ME Glass Cable and a Crystal Resonance Generator. That leads on to "Automating Crystals" quest, which asks for a Growth Accelerator.[5]
- "The Matter Condenser" quest also unlocks from the fluix quest. It asks for a Matter Condenser and a Singularity.[5]
The processor branch
- "Inscribing Processors" quest asks for an Inscriber plus all three printed circuits: Printed Calculation Circuit, Printed Engineering Circuit and Printed Logic Circuit.[5]
- "Silicon" quest wants Silicon and Printed Silicon.[5]
- "Completing Processors" quest is completed by any one of the finished processors: Engineering Processor, Logic Processor or Calculation Processor.[5]
- From there, "I/O Bus" quest accepts either an ME Import Bus or an ME Export Bus. "Cables and Channels" quest accepts any fluix cable: Fluix ME Glass Cable, Fluix ME Covered Cable or Fluix ME Smart Cable.[5]
Building the network
The cable quest is the big hub. Completing it opens three quests: "Adding More Channels" quest for an ME Controller, "ME Crafting Terminal" quest for an ME Crafting Terminal, and "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest for an ME Drive and a 1k ME Storage Component.[5]
- The crafting terminal leads to "Wireless Access" quest, which asks for an ME Wireless Access Point. That in turn leads to "Wireless Crafting" quest, which asks for an Wireless Crafting Terminal.[5]
- The drive quest leads to "Cell Workbench" quest, which asks for a Cell Workbench, and to "Autocrafting" quest, which asks for a Crafting Unit.[5]
Autocrafting
Once you have the Crafting Unit, two quests open up. "The Autocrafting Multiblock" quest wants a Crafting Co-Processing Unit plus any one crafting storage: 1k Crafting Storage, 4k Crafting Storage, 16k Crafting Storage, 64k Crafting Storage or 256k Crafting Storage. "Creating Patterns" quest asks for a ME Pattern Encoding Terminal and a Blank Pattern. It leads to "Storing Patterns" quest, which wants a ME Pattern Provider and a Molecular Assembler.[5]
Other quests in the chapter
Two more quests sit in this chapter, but their prerequisites aren't part of the chapter listing. "Storage Bus" quest asks for an ME Storage Bus along with ME Tag Storage Bus, ME Mod Storage Bus and ME Precise Storage Bus. "Quantum Network Bridges" quest asks for a Quantum Entangled Singularity, an ME Quantum Link Chamber and an ME Quantum Ring.[5]
Unverified It is not confirmed which quests unlock the Storage Bus quest and the Quantum Link quest. It is also not confirmed what the observation task in the certus quartz quest asks you to look at.
Which Applied Energistics 2 config options matter?
4 parts
Good news first: almost every number in the AE2 configs is left at the mod default in this pack. Charger speed, tick rates, P2P taxes, wireless range and battery sizes all match stock values. The settings that shape your playthrough are mostly the on/off switches and the channel mode, so those are what this section focuses on.[10]
Gameplay settings
The big one is general.channels, which controls how many channels your cables carry. Channels limit how many devices you can hook up to a single cable, so they're the core of AE2 network planning. This pack sets the option to X4. The allowed modes are INFINITE, DEFAULT, X2, X3 and X4, so X4 is the most generous finite setting.[1][10]
Unverified The pack files don't list a mod default for the channel mode or say exactly how many channels each cable carries under X4. Treat the precise cable capacity as unconfirmed until you've tested it in game.
- crafting.annihilationPlaneSkyDustGeneration is on. An annihilation plane placed face up at the maximum world height passively generates sky stone.[10]
- crafting.growthAccelerator is 10, the mod default. That's the number of ticks between two crystal growth accelerator ticks.[10]
- general.tinyTntBlockDamage is off, so Tiny TNT won't break blocks. general.matterCannonBlockDamage is on, so the Matter Cannon can break blocks.[10]
- general.spatialAnchorEnableRandomTicks is on, so Spatial Anchors force random chunk ticks and entity spawning.[10]
Meteorites
Meteorites are enabled through meteorite.meteorite. Placement uses a spacing of 32 and a separation of 8. The pack sets worldGen.spawnPressesInMeteorites to false, so don't count on finding inscriber presses inside them. worldGen.spawnFlawlessOnly is set to true.[10][26][27]
Power and wireless
Power numbers are stock. Here's how the Vibration Chamber works in this pack: it produces 5 AE per fuel burn tick. It speeds up to 40 AE/t when all of its energy is being used, and slows down to 4 AE/t when energy is being wasted. The Charger's rate factor is 1, meaning normal speed.[10]
Wireless settings are also defaults: a base range of 16 and a base cost of 8. The wireless terminal's battery holds 1,600,000 AE.[10]
Client settings you can change yourself
These only affect your own screen, so feel free to adjust them. The pack shows power in FE rather than AE through client.powerUnit. It also uses the FULL terminal style through terminals.terminalStyle.[28]
- terminals.pinAutoCraftedItems is on, so items you auto-craft get pinned to the top of the terminal.[28]
- client.notifyForFinishedCraftingJobs is on, so you get a toast when a long crafting job finishes.[28]
- search.autoFocusSearch and search.rememberLastSearch are both on, so the search field is focused and your last search is restored whenever you open a terminal.[28]
- tooltips.maxCellContentShown is 5, and it can go from 1 to 32. Raise it if you want storage cell tooltips to list more of their contents.[28]
- enableGuideHotkey is on, so you can hold a key on a tooltip to bring up the guide.[29]
What changed in Applied Energistics 2 between versions?
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Applied Energistics 2 version 19.2.17, from the file appliedenergistics2-19.2.17.jar. If you're comparing your instance against this guide, that's the version to check for.[4]
The mod list only tells us it was first included in FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 or earlier, so it may have been in the pack for several releases before this one.[4]
Unverified No pack changelog entries or mod changelogs are available for this version, so the specific changes to Applied Energistics 2 across FTB Skies 2 releases, including when it was first added, any version bumps, and any pack-side tweaks, could not be confirmed.
