What is Occultism?
2 parts
Occultism is a ritual magic mod built around summoning spirits, also called demons, to do your work for you. Those spirits can automate tasks, store huge amounts of items, and mine for you in void dimensions. The mod also lets you create powerful enchanted tools and jewelry and get help from familiars. The whole theme is inspired by Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus books, where magicians rely on summoned spirits to perform magic for them.[1]
If you like the idea of magic that turns into real automation and storage, this is a mod worth your time. The pack ships Occultism 1.184.0, and the mod has been included since pack version 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]
Getting started
- Break grass until you get Demon's Dream Seeds, the same way you'd find vanilla wheat seeds.[1][3]
- Craft the seeds with a book to get the Dictionary Of Spirits, the mod's in-game guide.[1][3]
- Follow the Dictionary. It walks you through gaining the Third Eye, finding hidden otherworld groves, and summoning your first spirit.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a dedicated Occultism quest chapter. It starts with a quest in "?" for the seeds and a quest in "?" for the Dictionary of Spirits. It then moves through ritual basics like White Chalk, the Chalk Brush, Sacrificial Bowl and Book of Binding: Foliot.[3]
From there the chapter branches out. One branch leads to dimensional storage with the Dimensional Storage Actuator, Stable Wormhole and Storage Accessor. Another covers mining with the Infused Pickaxe, Iesnium Ore, the Iesnium Pickaxe and the Dimensional Mineshaft. Later quests move on to stronger spirits, such as Afrit Essence and Marid Essence.[3]
Occultism also appears in the pack's chapter_2_the_star quest chapter. Its quests there ask for Demon's Dream Seeds, a Dragon Familiar Spawn Egg (or an alternative from another mod) and a Stable Wormhole.[4]
Unverified This chapter's exact role on the path to crafting the ATM Star could not be confirmed. Check the quest book in-game to see how these items feed into your Star progression.
How do you get started with Occultism?
4 parts
Occultism is a ritual magic mod built around summoning spirits. Once you get going, they can automate tasks, store huge amounts of items, mine in void dimensions and power enchanted tools and familiars. Everything starts with one book, so let's get you there.[1]
Step 1: Seeds and the Dictionary of Spirits
Break grass until you get Demon's Dream Seeds, the same way you'd farm vanilla wheat seeds. Craft them with a book to make the Dictionary Of Spirits. This is the mod's in-game guide, and the official first steps say to follow its instructions from here.[1][5]
Crafting Shapeless

In the pack's questbook, the seeds are the first Occultism quest, a quest in "?". That quest unlocks both the Dictionary quest, a quest in "?", and a quest for Demon's Dream, a quest in "?".[3]
Step 2: Otherworld materials and the Divination Rod
Next, the questline asks for three otherworld items in a quest in "?": Otherstone, an Unstable Otherworld Sapling and a Spirit Attuned Gem. After that comes the Divination Rod in a quest in "?".[3]
In this pack, the Spirit Attuned Gem is made on Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus, so check its recipe below before you plan your route. The Divination Rod is a normal crafting-table recipe that uses the gem.[5]

The mod describes this stage as finding otherworld groves hidden in plain sight by gaining the "Third Eye", and then summoning your first spirit.[1]
Unverified The sources here don't explain how to use the Divination Rod, how to gain the Third Eye or how to get the Unstable Otherworld Sapling. Read the matching Dictionary of Spirits entries in game for those details.
Step 3: Ritual gear
Next, the questline branches into four quests that you can do in any order:[3]
- a quest in "?": Purified Ink and a Book of Binding: Foliot.[3]
- a quest in "?": Impure White Chalk, White Chalk and a Chalk Brush.[3]
- a quest in "?": a Butcher Knife, which in turn leads to a quest in "?" for a Spirit Attuned Crystal.[3]
- a quest in "?": a Sacrificial Bowl and a Golden Ritual Bowl.[3]

Step 4: Your first bound spirit
Finishing those four quests unlocks a quest in "?". It asks for a Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound) along with iron, silver, gold and copper ingots.[3]
The bound Foliot book is worth the effort because it's used in several ritual recipes in this pack. These include the rituals for Nature Paste, Research Fragment Dust and the Apprentice Ritual Satchel.[5]
Unverified The sources here don't cover the ritual steps for binding a Foliot, such as how to lay out the chalk and bowls. Follow the Dictionary of Spirits for the exact setup.
After that, the chapter moves on to Impure Yellow Chalk, Impure Purple Chalk and Impure Light Gray Chalk in a quest in "?". That quest leads into the dimensional storage quests.[3]
How does Occultism work?
6 parts
Occultism doesn't run on power, pipes or cables the way tech mods do. It's a ritual magic system built around spirits you summon, and those spirits do the heavy lifting: automating tasks, storing huge amounts of items, mining in void dimensions and crafting powerful enchanted tools and jewelry.[1]
Your in-game manual is the Dictionary of Spirits. You get it by breaking grass until Demon's Dream seeds drop, the same way you'd get vanilla wheat seeds, then crafting those seeds with a book. After that, the dictionary walks you through the rest.[1]
Books of Binding: capturing spirits
Spirits are tied to books. Each spirit tier has its own Book of Binding: Book of Binding: Foliot, Book of Binding: Djinni, Book of Binding: Afrit and Book of Binding: Marid. You can craft each one directly, or make a Book of Binding: Empty first and turn it into the tier you need. The empty book is handy if you haven't decided which spirit you're after yet.[5]

The Djinni, Afrit and Marid versions follow the same pattern from the empty book.
Books of Calling: giving spirits a job
Once a spirit is bound, you give it a job by crafting its bound book into a Book of Calling. This pack has these worker books: Book of Calling: Foliot Transporter, Book of Calling: Foliot Janitor, Book of Calling: Foliot Lumberjack and Book of Calling: Djinni Machine Operator. The Transporter is your item-logistics spirit. The Machine Operator is the Djinni option for running machines.[5]

Dimensional Mineshaft: automated mining
The Dimensional Mineshaft is how you get spirits mining in void dimensions. You put spirits in lamps into it from the top. All the other sides are for pulling items out.[1][6]
Storage
Occultism also has a spirit-powered storage system for holding vast amounts of items. Its Stable Wormhole is linked to a storage actuator, and the tooltip tells you whether it's linked and where the actuator is.[1][6]
Crafting rituals and tools
Most ritual crafts bind a spirit into the finished item, but not all of them. Forging Reinforced Deepslate is a service from Wild Spirits: you sacrifice the items and the spirit forges the block for you, without being bound to it. You can collect Reinforced Deepslate with an infused or iesnium pickaxe.[6]
Once you have an Apprentice Ritual Satchel, which carries your chalks and other ritual gear, you can move up to the Artisanal Ritual Satchel. The Artisanal one gets an Afrit to help and is aimed at speeding things up.[6]
This pack adds its own recipe for Iesnium Dust, so you have an extra way to make the dust besides whatever the mod provides.[5]
Crafting Shapeless
- any iesnium ingot
- any ore hammer
Recipe id: alltheores:processing/ore_hammer/iesnium_dust_from_ingot
Familiar upgrades
Familiars have a small upgrade system of their own. The Blacksmith familiar can't be upgraded, but it upgrades your other familiars when you right-click it with iron ingots or iron blocks. Upgraded familiars gain extra effects. For example, the Greedy familiar can then find blocks for you after you right-click it with the block you want.[6]
Unverified The sources don't include the in-game guide's detailed text on ritual setup, pentacle layouts, mineshaft redstone control, mineshaft configuration or how the storage system is built. Check the Dictionary of Spirits in-game for those details.
How do you progress through Occultism?
8 parts
Occultism has its own quest chapter in this pack, and it's the best roadmap you'll get. It starts with a single seed and works up through stronger and stronger spirits until you're crafting chalks of every color. Here's the route, tier by tier.[3]
Getting started
- The chapter opens with a quest in "?", which asks for Demon's Dream Seeds. It branches into a quest in "?" for the Demon's Dream and a quest in "?" for the Dictionary Of Spirits, your in-game guidebook.[3]

The spirit tiers
The storage stabilizers show the tier ladder most clearly. Each stabilizer ritual upgrades the previous stabilizer and calls on a stronger bound spirit. The Tier 1 ritual uses a Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound), Tier 2 a Book of Binding: Djinni (Bound), Tier 3 a Book of Binding: Afrit (Bound), and Tier 4 a Book of Binding: Marid (Bound). So the order is Foliot, then Djinni, then Afrit, then Marid.[5]

Endgame
Everything comes together in a quest in "?", which asks for every impure chalk color. It needs the dragonyst dust, cruelty essence and echo dust quests done first. After it come a quest in "?" for the Eldritch Chalice (which also needs the iesnium bowl quest), a quest in "?" for the Trinity Gem (which also needs the soul gem quest), and a quest in "?" for Rainbow Chalk. Rainbow chalk leads to the final quest, a quest in "?", for Void Chalk.[3]

How does Occultism work with other mods?
5 parts
Occultism isn't a closed-off magic mod in this pack. Its items appear in several recipes from other mods, and a few of those recipes were added or changed by the pack itself. Here's where your spirit-summoning work connects to the rest of your base.[5]
Endgame crafting: Dragon Soul and Pulsating Black Hole
The pack adds a shaped recipe for the Dragon Soul that pulls from many mods. Two of the parts are Occultism items: the Soul Gem and the Dragon Familiar Spawn Egg. The rest come from other mods, such as the Block of Piglich Hearts and the Socotra Dragon Sapling.[5]

In the Occultism quest chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Silver Ingot alongside the Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound) and a few vanilla ingots. Over in the "basic_tools" chapter, a quest in "?" accepts either the Infused Pickaxe or the Iesnium Pickaxe.[3][7]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Occultism?
6 parts
Occultism shows up in three quest chapters in this pack. It has its own dedicated chapter, which walks you from your first seeds all the way to Void Chalk. A few quests in the chapter_2_the_star chapter also ask for its items, and the basic_tools chapter has one pickaxe quest.[3][4][7]
Getting started
- Everything kicks off with a quest in "?", which asks for Demon's Dream Seeds. Once you finish it, a quest in "?" (Demon's Dream) and a quest in "?" (Dictionary Of Spirits) open up.[3]
- a quest in "?" wants Otherstone, an Unstable Otherworld Sapling and a Spirit Attuned Gem. It leads to a quest in "?", which asks for a Divination Rod.[3]
- Four ritual-basics quests share the same prerequisite: a quest in "?" (Purified Ink and Book of Binding: Foliot), a quest in "?" (Impure White Chalk, White Chalk and a Chalk Brush), a quest in "?" (Butcher Knife) and a quest in "?" (Sacrificial Bowl and Golden Ritual Bowl).[3]
- After the knife, a quest in "?" asks for a Spirit Attuned Crystal along with one more item.[3]
- With all of those done, a quest in "?" asks you to bind your first spirit. It wants Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound) plus Iron Ingot, Silver Ingot, Gold Ingot and Copper Ingot.[3]
Dimensional storage

Mining and side branches
- Three quests share a prerequisite and open together: a quest in "?" (Otherworld Goggles), a quest in "?" (Nature Paste and Impure Green Chalk) and a quest in "?" (Research Fragment Dust and Impure Lime Chalk).[3]
- The mining line runs from the goggles to a quest in "?" (Infused Pickaxe). It then continues through a quest in "?" (Iesnium Ore) and a quest in "?" (Iesnium Pickaxe), and ends at a quest in "?" (Dimensional Mineshaft plus one more item).[3]
- The prerequisite that unlocks the infused pickaxe quest also unlocks a quest in "?" (Apprentice Ritual Satchel), a quest in "?" (Soul Gem) and a quest in "?" (Gray Paste and Impure Gray Chalk).[3]
- Three more chalk quests stand on their own: a quest in "?" (Cursed Honey and Impure Orange Chalk), a quest in "?" (Demonic Meat and Impure Pink Chalk) and a quest in "?" (Cruelty Essence and Impure Brown Chalk).[3]
Afrit and Marid lines
- a quest in "?" asks for Afrit Essence and Impure Red Chalk. It leads to a quest in "?", which wants 3 Wither Rose, 2 Crushed Blackstone and one more item.[3]
- That quest opens a quest in "?" (Witherite Dust and Impure Black Chalk), a quest in "?" (Artisanal Ritual Satchel) and a quest in "?" (Iesnium Ritual Bowl).[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for Marid Essence and Impure Blue Chalk. It opens two quests. a quest in "?" wants Diamond Block, Emerald Block, Block of Iesnium and Ghast Tear. a quest in "?" wants 3 Dragon Breath, 2 Amethyst Dust, Crushed End Stone and 4 End Crystal.[3]

- The rainbow chalk leads to the last quest, a quest in "?", which asks for Void Chalk.[3]

Which Occultism config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Occultism is a ritual magic mod built around summoning spirits to do work for you. They can automate tasks, store huge amounts of items, mine in void dimensions and help you make enchanted tools and jewelry, and familiars can support you too. Those are the systems you'd most likely want to check settings for.[1]
Unverified We couldn't check this pack's Occultism config files, so we can't tell you which options matter most or whether All the Mods 10 8.1 changes any values from the mod defaults. This section will be filled in once the in-pack config values can be confirmed.
What changed in Occultism between versions?
Occultism has been part of All the Mods 10 since version 2.2 or earlier, and 4.5 ships it as version 1.184.0. The pack changelogs only record version bumps, so this is the update trail you can verify.[2]
- All the Mods 10 2.26: updated from 1.172.0 to 1.173.1.[8]
- All the Mods 10 2.33: updated from 1.173.1 to 1.173.2.[9]
- All the Mods 10 2.36: updated from 1.173.2 to 1.173.4.[10]
- All the Mods 10 2.37: updated from 1.173.4 to 1.176.0.[11]
- All the Mods 10 2.39: updated from 1.176.0 to 1.177.1.[12]
- All the Mods 10 2.42: updated from 1.177.1 to 1.179.3.[13]
- All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 1.179.3 to 1.180.0.[14]
- All the Mods 10 4.3: updated from 1.180.0 to 1.181.0.[15]
- All the Mods 10 4.5: updated from 1.181.0 to 1.184.0.[16]
Unverified What changed inside Occultism in each of these updates (new content, balance changes, fixes) is unverified. The pack changelogs only list the version numbers, and there are no stored changelogs for the shipped jars. If you're upgrading an existing world, check the mod's own release notes before you rely on any specific behavior.
