What is Ender IO?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod that covers a lot of ground in one package: machines, conduits, armor, weapons, tools, enchantments and decorative blocks. If you enjoy tech mods, this one gives you plenty to dig into, from processing machines to the conduits you'll use to move things around your base.[1]

Conduits

Conduits are one of the mod's headline features. These are the types the mod lists:[1]

Ender IO in this pack

All the Mods 10 5.5 ships Ender IO 8.1.1-beta. The mod has been part of the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Watch out: The version in this pack is a beta, and Ender IO is being rewritten from the ground up for newer Minecraft versions. That means some features from older versions haven't been ported yet. If you remember something from an older pack and can't find it, it may simply not be in this version.[1][2]
Tip: Don't count on the in-game guidebook for help with this mod. In this version it only contains test entries and untranslated placeholder text, so recipe viewers and guides like this one are your better bet.[3][4][5]

Unverified The available sources don't cover where Ender IO fits into this pack's progression.

How do you get started with Ender IO?

6 parts

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod: machines, conduits, armor, weapons, tools, enchantments and decorative blocks all live under one roof. This pack ships the monolithic version, so you get the Base, Machines, Conduits, Inventory Panel, AE2 ME conduits, Refined Storage conduits and a few compat modules in a single mod.[1]

Watch out: The Zoo and Endergy modules are not included, so anything you remember from those add-ons won't be here. Ender IO is also still being rewritten for modern Minecraft, so some older features may not have been ported yet.[1]

First craft: a Basic Capacitor

The Basic Capacitor is the gateway item for everything else. It feeds straight into the Double-Layer Capacitor and into your first power storage, so make a few early and keep them around.[6]

Conduits

Conduits are the other half of the mod: items, fluids, energy, redstone, AE2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemicals all have their own type.[1]

Filters

To control what your conduits move, you need filters. enderio:black_paper is the shared base, and the enderio:basic_filter is cheap enough to make in bulk; the enderio:advanced_filter is the later upgrade.[6]

Tip: Every Ender IO alloy has a block form that converts back to ingots, and the pack's compressed blocks decompress straight back into those alloy blocks, so storing your alloys compressed is safe.[6]
Tip: The pack also wires Ender IO into Mystical Agriculture: you can craft an Enderman Head from essence instead of farming Endermen, which makes the Aversion Obelisk much easier to reach.[6]

Unverified Energy capacities, machine speeds and which capacitor tiers each machine accepts aren't covered by the sources used for this page.

How does Ender IO work?

8 parts

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod: machines, conduits, armor, weapons, tools, enchantments, inventory management, mobs and decorative blocks all live in one mod. In this pack you get the monolithic build, which bundles the Base, Machines, Conduits and Inventory Panel modules together with the Applied Energistics 2, Open Computers and Refined Storage conduit add-ons plus the Forestry and Tinkers' Construct compatibility modules. The Zoo and Endergy modules are not part of that bundle.[1]

Watch out: Ender IO has been rewritten from the ground up for modern Minecraft, so some features you remember from older versions have not been ported yet. If a block or tool you expect is missing, it is most likely still on the to-do list rather than disabled by the pack.[1]

Energy: µI, capacitors and banks

Ender IO measures power in its own unit, µI, and every machine has a base energy buffer and a base draw rate per tick. The Alloy Smelter, for example, holds 64,000 µI and draws 20 µI/t in this pack, and the Crafter also gets a 64,000 µI buffer. Both are left at the mod's own default values here, so nothing surprising is waiting for you.[7]

Capacitors are the heart of the power system. A Basic Capacitor is the entry-level component, and stacking them into storage gives you a Basic Capacitor Bank, which stores 500,000 µI in this pack.[6][7]

Machines and their IO faces

Machines in this pack run with visual machine particles enabled, and the IO configuration overlay draws neighbouring blocks at 0.4 transparency so you can see exactly which face is set to input, output or disabled while you wire things up.[8][9]

The Alloy Smelter is the workhorse machine of the mod's material chain. On top of its own alloying recipes it can run plain vanilla smelting, and doing so costs 1,500 µI per item in this pack.[6][7]

The Enchanter's costs

The Enchanter lets you buy enchanted books for levels and lapis instead of gambling at a vanilla table. In this pack every recipe has a base level cost of 2 added to it, the lapis cost is the enchantment level multiplied by 3, and the final XP cost is multiplied by 0.75, so enchanting here is a quarter cheaper in levels than an unmodified setup.[7]

Obelisks, spawners and range boxes

Several Ender IO blocks work on an area of effect rather than on items you feed them, and each draws a coloured range box so you can see what it covers. The pack keeps distinct colours for each one, which makes it easy to tell overlapping fields apart.[9]

  • The Aversion Obelisk keeps hostile mobs out of its area; it holds 64,000 µI and draws 10 µI/t in this pack, and shows a dark red range box.[7][9]
  • The Inhibitor Obelisk and the Relocator Obelisk also use dark red range boxes.[9]
  • The Powered Spawner shows a bright red range box, the Drain an orange one.[9]
  • Collection blocks are colour-coded separately: the Vacuum Chest draws a blue box and the XP Vacuum a green one.[9]

Feeding a Powered Spawner starts with a broken spawner, and this pack leaves the drop chance at 1, so every spawner you break with the right tool gives you one, with no luck involved.[10]

Tip: An Enderman Head is an ingredient in the obelisk line, and the pack adds a Mystical Agriculture route to it so you do not have to farm Endermen for drops.[6]

Conduits

Conduits are Ender IO's answer to cable spaghetti: several transport types share one block space, so a single conduit run can carry everything your build needs.[1]

  • Item, fluid and energy conduits for the basic logistics of a base.[1]
  • Redstone conduits for signalling between machines.[1]
  • Applied Energistics 2 ME and Refined Storage conduits, so your storage network rides along the same runs.[1]
  • Mekanism chemical conduits for gas and slurry lines.[1]

The AE2 conduits are made by binding an existing AE2 cable with Conduit Binder, and there is a recipe for each cable tier (glass, covered and covered dense) all producing a Conduit Bundle.[6]

Filters and automation logic

Item conduits get their smarts from filters. The enderio:basic_filter covers straightforward whitelist and blacklist work, while the enderio:advanced_filter adds a Z-Logic Controller to the mix for more complex sorting. Other tuning in this pack

Ender IO's explosion-resistant blocks are set to an explosion resistance of 1,200 here, which is the mod's own default value.[10]

Unverified Multiblock structures, fluid handling details and the Inventory Panel's network rules are not covered by the pack files available for this guide, so they are not documented here.

How do you progress through Ender IO?

5 parts

Ender IO in this pack is an alloy ladder. Almost every conduit, capacitor and upgrade exists in two or three versions, and the version you can build is decided by which of the mod's alloys you have running. Get one more alloy online and a whole row of items steps up a tier, usually with the exact same crafting shape.[6]

First step: conduit binder

Nothing conduit-related happens until you can make Conduit Binder Composite. It's a cheap crafting-table item from early-game materials, and it's the shared base for every conduit recipe in the pack, including the ones that wrap AE2 cables.[6]

Machines: chassis first

Most Ender IO machines here are built around a chassis. The regular machines such as the Alloy Smelter, Crafter and Drain are all built on Void Chassis, so once you can make chassis in bulk the whole machine line opens up at once.[6]

The soul-flavoured side of the mod uses Ensouled Chassis instead, which is what the Aversion Obelisk is built from. The obelisk also wants an Enderman Head, and the pack adds a way to craft that head from Mystical Agriculture enderman essence, so you don't have to farm drops for it.[6]

Pack-added alternative to farming the head

Upgrades and grinding balls

Conduit extraction speed comes in two tiers, and like the capacitor bank there's an in-place upgrade recipe from tier one to tier two, so build enderio:extraction_speed_upgrade_1 as soon as you need it and convert later.[6]

Check JEI in game for the exact inputs and counts before planning a tier jump. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Ender IO work with other mods?

5 parts

Ender IO is built to talk to other mods out of the box: alongside item, fluid, energy and redstone conduits it ships conduit types for Applied Energistics 2 ME channels, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemicals, so one conduit bundle can carry several mods' networks.[1]

On top of that, this pack adds its own recipes that tie Ender IO into Mekanism, Modular Machinery Reborn, Mystical Agriculture and All the Compressed, so you will be touching Ender IO materials even if you never build one of its machines.[6]

Mekanism

The pack adds crafting recipes that convert Mekanism's pressurized tubes and thermodynamic conductors into Ender IO conduits, plus upgrade recipes so you can push a conduit up to the next tier instead of starting over.[6]

The item input and output buses (both tiny and reinforced) are built around Impulse Hopper, the gearbox casing uses Dark Bimetal Gear, and the Mekanism chemical input and output hatches use enderio:chemical_filter. Keep a stock of those on hand before you start scaling up multiblocks.[6]

Ender IO items in pack multiblock recipes

Ender IO parts also show up as inputs inside the pack's own multiblock processing recipes. The Auto Hephaestus Forge recipes consume End Steel Ingot for the Allthemodium, Vibranium and Unobtainium lines, and Z-Logic Controller for the machine-duplicating recipes that cover Mekanism's chemical machines, the Arcane Core and Enchanting Apparatus, and more.[6]

The Runic Enchanter recipes use Ender IO materials too: Dark Steel Ingot for the lower-tier enchanting bases, and Experience Rod or Grains of Infinity for supremium-tier ones.[6]

Mystical Agriculture

Nearly every Ender IO alloy can be farmed instead of smelted. Mystical Agriculture provides essences that craft into copper alloy, redstone alloy, conductive alloy, energetic alloy, pulsating alloy, dark steel, end steel, soularium and grains of infinity, which is a great way to mass-produce conduit and machine materials once your farms are running.[6]

The pack also adds a recipe that turns a Blank Skull plus enderman essence into an Ender IO enderman head, so you don't have to farm heads by hand.[6]

All the Compressed

All nine Ender IO alloy storage blocks (copper alloy, redstone alloy, conductive alloy, energetic alloy, vibrant alloy, pulsating alloy, dark steel, end steel and soularium) can be compressed one step further into All the Compressed 1x blocks.[6]

Tip: Compression is reversible: every 1x block has a decompress recipe that gives your Ender IO blocks back, so it is safe to use as bulk storage.[6]

Which Ender IO config options matter?

5 parts

Ender IO's settings live in the config/enderio folder, split into base, machines and armory files with separate common (server-side) and client parts. The good news for you: almost every value in this pack that reports a mod default is sitting exactly on that default, so anything you learn from Ender IO elsewhere carries over here. Below are the numbers you're most likely to want while building.[7][9][10][11]

Machine power use

  • Most machines hold 64,000 uI: the Alloy Smelter, SAG Mill, Painting Machine, Crafter, Impulse Hopper, Stirling Generator, Drain and the obelisks all use that buffer, while the Slicer'n'Splicer and Powered Spawner get 100,000 uI and the Soul Binder and Wired Charger get 128,000 uI.[7]
  • Running costs are set per machine in uI/t: 20 for the Alloy Smelter, SAG Mill and Powered Spawner, 30 for the Painting Machine, Slicer'n'Splicer and Wired Charger, 60 for the Soul Binder, 16 for the Impulse Hopper and 10 for the Drain and the obelisks.[7]
  • Some operations bill a flat cost instead: 1,500 uI per vanilla smelting item in the Alloy Smelter, 2,400 uI per painting operation and 3,200 uI per Crafter recipe.[7]
Tip: energy.throttleEnergyUsage is on, so machines throttle their energy input to twice their consumption rate. Don't panic if a machine refuses to gulp down your whole power grid at once.[7]

Generation and storage

  • The Stirling Generator makes 40 uI/t at a base burn speed of 0.375 burn ticks per machine tick, with a base fuel efficiency of 80 and a step of 20 per capacitor level.[7]
  • Photovoltaic cells produce 4, 16 and 64 at midday without rain or thunder for the energetic, pulsating and vibrant tiers.[7]
  • Capacitor banks store 500,000 uI (basic), 2,000,000 uI (advanced) and 4,000,000 uI (vibrant).[7]

Powered Spawner and Enchanter

  • The Powered Spawner pushes out 4 mobs per spawn, shuts off when 2 entities are in range, and starts losing efficiency past 10 spawners. poweredSpawner.spawnType is set to ENTITY_TYPE, meaning it spawns the same entity type as the soul vial rather than an exact copy of the captured mob.[7]
  • The Enchanter adds 2 to the level cost of every recipe, charges lapis equal to the enchant level times 3, and multiplies the final XP cost by 0.75 via enchanter.levelCostFactor.[7]

Travel and wearables

  • Travelling items hold 100,000 uI and spend 1,000 uI per teleport, with 24 blocks of blink range, 96 blocks block-to-block, 192 blocks item-to-block and a disabled time of 5.[10]
  • The Electromagnet has a range of 5, pulls up to 20 items, holds 100,000 uI and uses 1 uI, and the Levitation Staff holds 10,000 uI at the same energy use of 1.[10]
  • Empowered dark steel gear scales from 100,000 uI and a damage absorption chance of 0.5 at level 1 up to 1,000,000 uI and 0.85 at level 4, spending 750 uI per absorbed damage point and granting an efficiency boost of 2.[11]
  • The Dark Steel Axe burns 1,500 uI per felled log, and the explosive upgrades cost 30 uI per extra block broken.[11]

Client-side polish

If you dislike machine particles, visual.machineParticles is enabled here and can be turned off client-side. The machines client file also sets the range box colours for the obelisks, Drain, Powered Spawner, Vacuum Chest and XP Vacuum, plus a neighbour transparency of 0.4 for the IO config overlay.[8][9]

What changed in Ender IO between versions?

4 parts

All the Mods 10 2.12 ships Ender IO 7.0.11-alpha. The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 0.53 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, from the 7.0.0 alpha up to the version in your pack.[12][13]

Unverified Pack changelog entries for Ender IO are not available, so this page covers only the mod's own release notes.

7.0.0-alpha: the NeoForge rewrite

The changelog says Ender IO 7 stays in alpha until the authors are satisfied with the stability of existing content. It also says some planned changes to early-game Ender IO are still in the works, so expect some recipes to change.[13]

The headline items: a work-in-progress texture overhaul and GUI redesign by CyanideX. Rewritten conduits with datapack support (facades are currently work-in-progress), plus RS2 conduits and support for Laser IO filters in conduits. The Vat for fluid crafting (its recipes are still work-in-progress) and the "Phantom" solar panel. New inhibitor, aversion and relocator obelisks. Loot capacitors have random names again, and capacitors gained fuel efficiency and burning generation rate properties.[13]

  • Grains of Infinity can be obtained through sag-milling and also by setting deepslate on fire. Sag-mill recipes were added for raw iron, gold and copper.[13]
  • Enchantments were temporarily removed. JEI bookmarks and the NeoForge configuration menu are supported.[13]

7.0.1 to 7.0.5

  • 7.0.1 added chemical filters, with Laser IO compatibility.[14]
  • 7.0.3 changed the energy conduit cap to be per-node instead of per-tick.[15]
  • 7.0.4 and 7.0.5 were bugfix builds. They fixed conflicting recipe IDs in smelting recipe inheritance, made the crafter work without energy, and made it check for the full amount of energy.[16][17]

7.0.7 and 7.0.8: recipes and conduits

7.0.7 made all machine recipes support item components. This was marked as breaking and changed the recipe format, so custom datapacks may not work as expected. It also fixed filter item duplication and voiding, a sunflower grinding recipe that wrongly required vines, and a batch of conduit bugs.[18]

7.0.8 changed how conduit JSON is read. Transfer rates are now described per-tick for almost all conduits, except item conduits, which are per-second. If you have custom conduits, review their transfer rates. It also fixed fluid conduits not working at all, the redstone conduit not connecting to Copper Bulbs, and the alloy smelter not smelting a vanilla recipe when all input slots were filled.[19]

7.0.9 to 7.0.11: polish and hotfixes

  • 7.0.9 added JEI click areas and ghost dragging, and played an item pickup sound when you shift right-click a conduit with the yeta wrench. It fixed crafters accidentally sharing a global crafting container, and incorrect redstone control icons.[20]
  • 7.0.11, the version in your pack, is a hotfix release. It fixed a conduit dupe when breaking with the yeta wrench, removed an unnecessary pickup noise, and tweaked XP obelisk calculations to avoid reaching a lockup.[12][21]
