What is Silent Gear?
1 part
Silent Gear is the mod you reach for when you want fully customizable tools, weapons, armor and even elytra. Instead of getting a fixed iron pickaxe, you build gear out of parts, and each part is made from a material you choose. This pack ships Silent Gear 4.2.1.1.[1][2]
Every gear item needs a main part, such as a tool head or armor plates, and tools and weapons also need a rod. Blueprints are reusable forever, while templates are used up after one craft. If you enjoy chasing better stats and trying out different material combinations, this mod is for you.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a dedicated Silent Gear quest chapter that walks you through the mod's main stations. Most of it hangs off the Casts quest and the "Salvager" quest quest.[3]
- Blueprints: the chapter hands out the Coating Blueprint, Binding Blueprint, Grip Blueprint, Lining Blueprint, Fletching Blueprint, Mace Blueprint and Elytra Blueprint after the Casts quest.[3]
- The Salvager breaks gear down into the items it was made from, and the Recrystallizer combines crystals into new ones for making gear.[3]
- The Material Grader gives a material a grade, and the better the grade, the better the stats. MAX is the best. Catalysts power it: Glowing Dust is tier 1, Blazing Dust is tier 2 and Glittery Dust is tier 3.[1][3]
- The Alloy Forge creates custom alloys and is the only way to get Tyrian Steel.[3]
- The Starlight Charger can give materials the Star Charged enchantment. You build it in the middle of a 7x7 structure under the night sky, with a pillar in each corner. The pillar caps scale by tier: Block of Crimson Steel for tier 1, Block of Azure Electrum for tier 2 and Block of Tyrian Steel for tier 3.[3]
- Repair kits, from the Very Crude Repair Kit up to the Azure Repair Kit, let you repair gear in a crafting grid without an anvil.[3]
Silent Gear also connects to other parts of the pack. Flax Seeds are one of the accepted items for the Flax String quest, and a Crimson Iron Bee quest in the Productive Bees chapter asks for a Block of Crimson Iron.[4][5]
Unverified The sources do not show Silent Gear as part of the ATM Star quest path, so don't count on it for that route.
How do you get started with Silent Gear?
7 parts
Silent Gear is all about tools, weapons and armor, which the mod calls "gear". Every gear item starts from a blueprint or a template, so that's where you begin. After that, the pack's Silent Gear quest chapter leads you through repair kits, the Salvager, the Material Grader, the Alloy Forge and the Starlight Charger.[1][3]
Blueprints and templates
A blueprint can be reused infinitely. A template is consumed with one use, but otherwise they are identical. The mod also has advancements for crafting template boards from a log with a knife or dagger, and for crafting a crude knife to use on your stone anvil. Here are the axe versions as an example.[1][6]

A repair kit
The quest a quest in "Silent Gear" explains how repairs work. Place a repair kit in a crafting grid together with the materials needed to repair your tool, and that fills the kit. Then combine the filled kit with the tool in a crafting grid. The quest accepts five kits, starting with the Very Crude Repair Kit.[3]

Flax for string
The quest "Flax String" quest accepts Flax Seeds as one of several seed options. Some options let you grow string directly, while others give an alternative that works in recipes. The pack adds sieve recipes that turn dirt into Flax Seeds with a diamond, flint, golden, iron or netherite mesh. Here is the flint mesh one.[4][7]

Salvager
In the quest book, "Salvager" quest comes after the Casts quests that hold the blueprints. The Salvager breaks gear down into the items it was made from. The quest's example is that Diamond Boots give you 4 Diamonds back.[3]
Material Grader
The Material Grader quest a quest in "Silent Gear" follows the Salvager. Place an ingot in the Grader with a Grader Catalyst and the material gets a grade. The better the grade, the better the stats, and the best grade is "MAX". The grader's advancement also hands you a tier 1 catalyst, Glowing Dust. Blazing Dust is tier 2 and Glittery Dust is tier 3. The recipes for the Advanced Upgrade Base, the grader and the glowing dust are below.[3][6]

Starlight Charger
The Starlight Charger quest "Starlight Charger" quest follows the Alloy Forge, and the pack has changed this recipe. The Charger can give materials the "Star Charged" enchantment. It must stand in the middle of a 7x7 structure in view of the night sky, with a pillar in each corner, and each pillar needs a Starlight Charger Cap. It only gains Starlight Power during the night, and it needs a charger catalyst for each material.[3][7]

How does Silent Gear work?
7 parts
Silent Gear is mostly about crafting gear by hand in a normal crafting grid, with a handful of machine blocks for grading materials and making alloys. This page covers how those systems work, plus the places where this pack changes Silent Gear items.[1][6]
How gear is built
Every gear item needs a main part, and you need a blueprint or a template to make one. A blueprint can be reused forever, while a template is consumed after one use. Otherwise they work the same.[1]
- Tools and melee weapons: combine the blueprint with enough of one material to make the main part (head, blade and so on), then craft that with a rod. The materials must all be the same, but they can have different grades. A plain stick works as a rod if you have nothing better.[1]
- Bows, crossbows and fishing rods: these also need a cord part, and you add the cord and the rod at the same time.[1]
- Armor: you craft plates first, then craft the plates into armor. There is no quick recipe for armor, and you can optionally add a lining.[1]
- Elytra: these need wings plus a binding. The wings only accept materials in the cloth and sheet categories, which includes sheet metal made in the metal press.[1]
- Curios: make the main part from a blueprint (metal materials only), then use jeweler's tools to craft an adornment and to combine the parts.[1]
Most tools also have a quick recipe, so check JEI if you are unsure. Most vanilla items can be converted to a Silent Gear version by putting them in a crafting grid on their own. The recipe below is this pack's diamond axe conversion, which gives you an Axe, an Axe Head and a Tool Rod.[1][7]
Vanilla conversion example: one diamond axe gives you the finished axe, its head and its rod.
Grades and the material grader
Grades are material modifiers that apply an extra multiplier to only some stats. From lowest to highest they are E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS and MAX. You grade materials in the material grader block, which uses up one catalyst per attempt. The grade is random, following a normal distribution.[1]
The average result depends on the catalyst tier, so higher tiers are more likely to give better grades. There are five catalyst tiers defined by item tags, but only three have items by default: glowing dust (tier 1), blazing dust (tier 2) and glittery dust (tier 3).[1][6]
Alloys and compound materials
Some mid to late game blocks make compound materials, which the community often calls alloys. They combine up to four materials into one compound. You put two or more unique, simple (not compound) materials into the input slots, then toggle the Work button once you like the result preview. The Super Mixer's description says it makes alloys of any material.[1][6]
The Alloy Forge and the Crude Mixer both have ordinary crafting recipes in this pack.[7]

Azure electrum
Azure silver ore is mined in The End and then smelted. The mod's advancement for crafting azure electrum describes it as fast.[6]
The Azure Electrum Ingot also exists as Azure Electrum Dust and as an Block of Azure Electrum. The recipes below show how they connect.[7]

Pack changes to Silent Gear items
- Arrow Heads can be cast from an arrow cast, and the pack changed this recipe.[7]
- A second casting recipe turns a Tyrian Steel Ingot plus 90 of any molten uru metal into an Uru Metal Ingot and arrow heads.[7]
- The pack adds a Create cutting recipe that turns Netherwood into Stripped Netherwood Log.[7]
Repairing
You cannot repair gear by crafting two similar items together. Repair kits are the quick way: fill one with materials ahead of time, or put the gear, the kit and the materials in a crafting grid together. The material's tier must be the same as or higher than that of the gear's primary part.[1]
If a tool shatters, you can still repair it by crafting it with a filled repair kit. The Azure Repair Kit is one of the kit varieties you can craft.[6][7]

The mod also adds a metal press, a recrystallizer, a refabricator, a starlight charger and a stone anvil. The salvager can break down some items into their components.[6]
How do you progress through Silent Gear?
5 parts
Silent Gear progression in this pack follows the quest chapter. You start with blueprints and repair kits, move on to the Salvager and the Material Grader, then to the Alloy Forge, and finish with the Starlight Charger. That charger is where the three tiers show up.[3]
Early game: repairs and blueprints
The first thing worth knowing is a quest in "Silent Gear", "No Anvils required". Silent Gear gear is repaired with a repair kit instead of an anvil. The quest accepts any of Very Crude Repair Kit, Crude Repair Kit, Sturdy Repair Kit, Crimson Repair Kit or Azure Repair Kit.[3]

After the Casts quest, the chapter branches into blueprint quests: Coating Blueprint, Lining Blueprint, Binding Blueprint, Fletching Blueprint, Mace Blueprint, Elytra Blueprint and Grip Blueprint. The coating quest notes that Netherite makes a great coating material.[3]
Salvaging, recrystallizing and grading
The Salvager also comes after Casts. It breaks gear down, and the quest's example is that Diamond Boots give you 4 Diamonds back. Two quests follow it: the Recrystallizer, which turns different crystals into new crystals for weapons, tools and armor, and the Material Grader.[3]

The Material Grader gives a material a grade. You put an ingot in with a Grader Catalyst, and the better the grade, the better the material's stats. The best grade is "MAX". The catalysts come in three tiers, each with its own quest:[3]
- Tier 1 Grader Catalyst: Glowing Dust.[3]
- Tier 2 Grader Catalyst: Blazing Dust.[3]
- Tier 3 Grader Catalyst: Glittery Dust.[3]

Starlight Charger tiers
The Starlight Charger comes after the Alloy Forge. It "enchants" materials with the Star Charged enchantment. Build it in view of the night sky, because it only gains Starlight Power at night. It goes in the middle of a 7x7 structure with a pillar in each corner, and each pillar needs a Starlight Charger Cap. Each material you charge also needs a charger catalyst. The pack changed the Starlight Charger recipe, so use the one below rather than a mod default.[3][7]

Pack-specific notes
The pack changed the Productive Metalworks block-casting recipes for Block of Azure Electrum, Block of Crimson Iron, Block of Crimson Steel and Block of Tyrian Steel. Each one is cast from the matching molten metal. Three of those blocks are the pillar caps from the quests above.[3][7]
Block of Crimson Iron is also a quest task in the Productive Bees chapter, in "Crimson Iron Bee" quest.[5]
"Flax String" quest is about growing string from flax. The pack adds Ex Deorum sieve recipes that give Flax Seeds from dirt with a mesh, covering the Flint, Iron, Golden, Diamond and Netherite meshes.[4][7]
How does Silent Gear work with other mods?
4 parts
Silent Gear doesn't live on its own in this pack. Many of its raw materials, metals and part casts are wired into other mods through recipes, and the pack changed or added a lot of them. Here are the connections I can confirm from the pack's recipes and quests.[7]
Getting materials: Ex Deorum, Create and Farmer's Delight
Flax comes from sieving. In an Ex Deorum sieve, dirt gives you Flax Seeds with any of these meshes: Flint Mesh, Iron Mesh, Golden Mesh, Diamond Mesh or Netherite Mesh. The pack added all of these recipes. The quest "Flax String" quest lists Silent Gear's flax seeds as one of several flax options.[4][7]
Sieve (exdeorum)
Recipe id: allthemods:exdeorum/flint_mesh/dirt/silentgear/flax_seeds
Sieve recipe for flax seeds with a flint mesh, added by the pack.
Create's crushing of Crimsite was changed by the pack. It now outputs Iron Clump, Iron Nugget, Crimson Iron Nugget and Raw Crimson Iron.[7]
Farmer's Delight cutting also touches Silent Gear's Netherwood, and the pack changed that recipe.[7]
Cutting (farmersdelight)
Recipe id: farmersdelight:integration/silentgear/cutting/netherwood
Cutting gives Tree Bark and Stripped Netherwood Log.
Metals: Neo Vitae and Productive Bees
Neo Vitae dusts can be smelted or blasted into Silent Gear materials. The pack added these recipes: Azure Silver Dust becomes Azure Silver Ingot, Crimson Iron Dust becomes Crimson Iron Ingot, and Bort Dust becomes Bort.[7]
Productive Bees can also supply ore. In the centrifuge, the azure silver honeycomb gives Wax and Raw Azure Silver, and the crimson iron honeycomb gives wax and Raw Crimson Iron. The pack changed both recipes. In the Productive Bees quest chapter, "Crimson Iron Bee" quest ties in too: it asks for bee items together with a Block of Crimson Iron.[5][7]
Casting with Productive Metalworks
Productive Metalworks can cast Silent Gear's metals. With an Ingot Cast and the matching molten metal, you can cast azure electrum, azure silver, blaze gold, crimson iron, crimson steel and tyrian steel ingots. With a Nugget Cast you get the matching nuggets. The pack changed all of these recipes.[7]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/silentgear/tyrian_steel
Tyrian steel ingot casting, a recipe the pack changed.
Crushed Shulker Shell can be melted into Molten Shulker Shell. That one is a plain mod recipe, not a pack change.[7]
Part casts
The sgearmetalworks casts, like Axe Cast, are made by casting a Silent Gear part with molten steel. The pack changed these recipes. The ones I can confirm from the pack's recipes cover parts from arrow heads up to shear blades.[7]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Axe Head
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/axe_cast
Axe cast from an axe head and molten steel, changed by the pack.
The pack also added a second route through Oritech. Casting Molten Biosteel onto a Silent Gear part gives the matching cast instead. This works for every cast in the pack's recipes, including the shield, shovel, sickle, slingshot, spear, sword, tip and trident casts.[7]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Same axe cast, made with molten biosteel. The pack added this recipe.
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Silent Gear?
4 parts
Most of Silent Gear's questing lives in its own "Silent Gear" chapter. It starts with repairs, moves through blueprints and the Salvager, then climbs into grading and the Starlight Charger. Two other chapters touch the mod briefly. Here's the route in order.[3][4][5]
Silent Gear chapter
The chapter opens with a quest in "Silent Gear", "No Anvils required". You can hand in any one of the Repair Kits: Very Crude Repair Kit, Crude Repair Kit, Sturdy Repair Kit, Crimson Repair Kit or Azure Repair Kit. The quest text explains how to fill a kit with repair materials and then use it on a tool, so read it in the quest book.[3]
Next come the quests that unlock after the chapter's Casts quest. These are the blueprint quests and the Salvager.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Coating Blueprint. The quest says it coats items and tools, and that Netherite makes a great coating material.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Lining Blueprint.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Binding Blueprint.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Fletching Blueprint.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Mace Blueprint.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Elytra Blueprint.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Grip Blueprint.[3]
- "Salvager" quest: hand in the Salvager. It breaks gear down into the items it was made from. For example, Diamond Boots give you 4 Diamonds back.[3]
After the Salvager
Two quests follow the Salvager. a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Recrystallizer, which combines different crystals into new ones for weapons, tools and armor. a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Material Grader. Put an ingot in it along with a Grader Catalyst to give the material a grade. A better grade means better stats, and the best grade is "MAX".[3]
Four more quests branch off the Material Grader quest. Three are the Grader Catalyst tiers, and the fourth is the Alloy Forge.[3]
- "Tier 1 Grader Catalyst" quest: Tier 1 Grader Catalyst, which asks for Glowing Dust.[3]
- "Tier 2 Grader Catalyst" quest: Tier 2 Grader Catalyst, which asks for Blazing Dust.[3]
- "Tier 3 Grader Catalyst" quest: Tier 3 Grader Catalyst, which asks for Glittery Dust.[3]
- a quest in "Silent Gear": hand in the Alloy Forge. It makes custom alloys, and the quest calls it the only way to get Tyrian Steel.[3]
Starlight Charger
The Alloy Forge quest leads to "Starlight Charger" quest, which asks for the Starlight Charger. It can "enchant" materials with the "Star Charged" enchantment. You build it in the middle of a 7x7 structure that sees the night sky, with a Pillar in each corner and a Starlight Charger Cap on each pillar. It only gains Starlight Power at night, and each material needs a charger catalyst.[3]
Six quests branch off from there, covering the catalysts and pillar caps for each tier.[3]
- "Tier 1 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest: Tier 1 catalyst, which asks for Blaze Gold Dust.[3]
- "Tier 2 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest: Tier 2 catalyst, which asks for Azure Silver Dust.[3]
- "Tier 3 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest: Tier 3 catalyst, which asks for Starmetal Dust.[3]
- "Tier 1 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest: Tier 1 pillar cap, which asks for Block of Crimson Steel.[3]
- "Tier 2 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest: Tier 2 pillar cap, which asks for Block of Azure Electrum.[3]
- "Tier 3 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest: Tier 3 pillar cap, which asks for Block of Tyrian Steel.[3]
Other chapters
In Food and Farming, "Flax String" quest ("Flax String") follows the Punch the Grass quest. It accepts flax seeds from several mods, including Flax Seeds. The quest notes that some of them let you grow string directly, while others give an alternative that works in recipes.[4]
In Productive Bees, "Crimson Iron Bee" quest ("Crimson Iron Bee") asks for a Productive Bees item such as a bee cage or a spawn egg, plus a Block of Crimson Iron.[5]
What changed in Silent Gear between versions?
3 parts
This pack ships Silent Gear 4.2.1.1, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. They cover the 1.21.1 releases from 4.0.25 onward.[2][8]
4.2.1 and 4.2.1.1
- 4.2.1.1 (2026-05-15) fixes any crash related to the new gear renderer.[9]
- 4.2.1 (2026-05-14) adds events that fire when gear data is recalculated, for mod and pack makers.[9]
- 4.2.1 also changes the quick paint recipe (paint + gear): it now paints the coating instead of the main part if there is one.[9]
- 4.2.1 fixes arrows only crafting one at a time. It also fixes arrows not allowing rod swaps and fishing rods not allowing cord swaps, plus missing binding textures for many gear types.[9]
4.1.1 to 4.1.3.1
- 4.1.3.1 (2026-03-18) fixes a server crash when recalculating gear.[10]
- 4.1.3 (2026-03-08) uses simple material names ('gold' instead of 'golden') wherever it makes sense grammatically. The repair kit now colors material names so they are easier to identify.[10]
- 4.1.3 also fixes repair kits not storing some materials correctly, such as alloys. Existing kits keep their simple materials, but an 'Unknown Alloys' entry may linger until overwritten and cannot be retrieved. Smithing tables modifying the input gear item were fixed too.[10]
- 4.1.1 (2026-02-18) adds a config option to disable spawning with a material book. The book also gets expanded trait information, an explanation of trait conditions (the asterisk), and icons for materials that only have part substitutes.[11]
4.0.25 to 4.0.30
- 4.0.30 (2025-11-23) adds the crude mixer, an early game alternative to the super mixer. It makes an alloy from two to four materials, but the result is weaker. The penalty is set by compounds.crude_mixer.property_multiplier, and the default of 0.8 gives a 20% penalty.[12]
- 4.0.30 also adds a default super mixer recipe. Area-of-effect tools like the hammer now mine 50% faster when you crouch to target a single block, and they no longer mine instantly while sneaking. Spears no longer do a sweeping attack.[12]
- 4.0.29 (2025-09-23) adds an Alloy Forge recipe for Azure Electrum. It fixes arrow duplication with the repair kit and items with the Fireproof trait burning up in fire or lava.[13]
- 4.0.28 (2025-08-21) adds the Breeze Rod material and the Wind Blast trait found on it. It also restores the missing 'Tip Upgrade' option on the gear mod kit.[14]
- 4.0.28 fixes crafted gear showing as 'example items' in the tooltip. If an item already has this bug, modify it in some way, like adding a grip or changing the head, to clear it.[14]
- 4.0.27 (2025-08-16) adds JEI search aliases for materials, so you can search for 'materials' or a category like 'metal' or 'advanced'. It also fixes tridents with channeling and maces missing their smash attack and wind burst. 4.0.27.1 followed to fix a crash when accessing the material list.[15]
- 4.0.25 (2025-07-12) adds the Heat-Resistant trait to crimson iron. It reduces fire damage and stops the item being destroyed by fire when dropped. It also adds a new trait effect, silentgear:negates_damage, and fixes the Bounce trait to bounce you after a fall of more than 3 blocks.[8]
