What is Silent Gear Metalworks?
2 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks is in this pack at version 1.21.1-1.5.0. The sources here include no guidebook and no platform description for the mod, so everything below comes from the pack's mod list and quest book.[1]
What you'll see most is casts. The pack's Silent Gear quest chapter is a long run of quests, and each one asks you to get a cast for a different tool, weapon, armor piece or accessory. Every one of them comes after a quest called Casts, so that's your starting point in the chapter.[2]
What the casts are for
The quest text helps you pick what to make first. The Sword Cast is for the basic sword, with reliable damage and reliable speed. The Dagger Cast gives low damage but very high attack speed, and it reduces the target's invincibility time.[2]
- Knife Cast: higher durability than a dagger, but lower damage and speed.[2]
- Katana Cast: more damage than a sword, but slower.[2]
- Machete Cast: slightly faster than a sword, but lower damage.[2]
- Spear Cast: less damage than a sword, but longer reach.[2]
- Paxel Cast: the quest title calls it Pickaxe + Axe + Shovel.[2]
- Hammer Cast and Excavator Cast: the quests title these 3x3 Mining and 3x3 Digging.[2]
The Tip Cast is for the Tip Upgrade, which raises a tool's mining level. The quest's example is an Iron Pickaxe with a Diamond Tip Upgrade, which lets it mine Obsidian and gives it a stat boost.[2]
Beyond the casts
The mod also adds the Uru Metal Block. It turns up in the Productive Bees chapter, in the quest "Uru Metal Bee" quest, where you pour Molten Uru over an Unobtainium Bee Spawn Egg.[3]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown in the sources here. Check the pack's quest book to see how the Silent Gear chapter connects to the rest of it.
How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?
3 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks ties Silent Gear parts to Productive Metalworks. The mod's own tooltip says all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. So your first goal is simple: get casts.[4]
Step 1: Make your first casts
Each cast is made with an item casting recipe. It takes the matching Silent Gear part (an axe head, say) plus molten metal. The pack changed these recipes so they accept any molten steel. Here is the Axe Cast as an example.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Axe Head
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/axe_cast
Changed by the pack: the Silent Gear axe head plus any molten steel.
The pack also adds a second route for the casts. It uses molten biosteel (from Oritech) in place of the steel.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: allthemods:casting/cast/axe_cast_with_biosteel
Added by the pack: the same axe head, cast with molten biosteel.
Step 2: Pick which casts to make first
The Silent Gear quest chapter has one quest per cast, and every one of them comes after the Casts quest. Here is a sensible order to start with:[2]
- Tool Rod Cast: its quest is titled "Your own Handle!" (a quest in "Silent Gear"), so this is where you get a handle for your tools.[2]
- Pickaxe Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear"), then Axe Cast and Shovel Cast, to cover the basic digging tools.[2]
- Sword Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear"): the quest calls it the basic sword, with reliable damage and reliable speed.[2]
- Tip Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear"): the quest says the Tip Upgrade is used to increase the mining level of a tool. Its example is an Iron Pickaxe plus a Diamond Tip Upgrade, which lets it mine Obsidian and also gives a stat boost.[2]
A note on Uru metal
The mod also adds Uru Metal Ingot and Uru Metal Block. The pack changed how the block is cast from molten Uru metal. It is not a first-day goal, so come back to it later.[5]
How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Silent Gear Metalworks doesn't bring machines of its own, at least none that show up in the sources. It plugs Silent Gear into the foundry from Productive Metalworks, and everything below runs through that foundry's recipe types: melting, casting and alloying.[6][7]
Molten fluids
The mod adds a molten fluid, with a bucket for it, for a long list of metals and gems. These include Molten Uru Metal, Molten Crimson Steel, Molten Tyrian Steel, Molten Ruby, Molten Sapphire and Molten White Diamond. Fluid is what you move around and cast from, so this is where your item and fluid handling starts.[6]
Many recipes accept "any" fluid from a shared tag, for example any molten Uru metal or any molten steel, rather than one specific fluid.[7]
Melting
Melting turns items into fluid. In this pack, the azure electrum, azure silver and blaze gold dusts each melt into 90 units of their molten metal. The pack changed these recipes.[7]
There are also melting recipes named after the Productive Bees Uru metal comb and comb block. They give 10 and 40 units of Molten Uru Metal. The pack changed these too.[7]
Counted across the pack, 34 melting recipes of this kind produce items from this mod, with 7 different results.[7]
Alloying
Alloying combines several fluids into one. The pack changed all three alloys this mod adds: Molten Azure Electrum, Molten Blaze Gold and Molten Crimson Steel. These are the pack's exact recipes:[7]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 360× any molten azure silver
- 100× any molten ender
- 180× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_azure_electrum
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 90× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_blaze_gold
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 810× any molten crimson iron
- 100× any molten magma cream
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_crimson_steel
Casting Uru metal
Casting turns fluid back into items. For Uru metal, the amounts are 90 units for an Uru Metal Ingot and 10 for an Uru Metal Nugget. A full Uru Metal Block takes 810 units. The pack changed all three recipes. The ingot and nugget recipes use an ingot cast and a nugget cast from Productive Metalworks, and the block is a block casting recipe.[7]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Nugget Cast
- 10× any molten uru metal

Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
- 810× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/storage_blocks/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
If you'd rather skip the foundry for storage, ingots and blocks also convert by hand in a shapeless crafting recipe, in both directions.[7]

The mod's own Uru part recipes use different fluid amounts depending on the part: 90 units for arrow heads, 270 for an axe head and 360 for boot plates. These are unchanged mod recipes.[7]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tyrian Steel Ingot
- 90× any molten uru metal

Casts
The mod adds a cast item for each Silent Gear part type, such as Arrow Cast, Axe Cast and Boots Cast. There are also casts for bows, swords, rings, shields and many more tools and accessories.[6]
In this pack, those three casts are made by casting a Silent Gear part, using 360 units of any molten steel. The pack changed all three recipes.[7]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Arrow Heads
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/arrow_cast
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Boot Plates
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/boots_cast
In total, 34 item casting recipes take Silent Gear items and fluids and make items from this mod. A further 33 casting recipes make both this mod's items and Silent Gear items.[7]
How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?
3 parts
Progression for this mod in the pack is all about casts. In the pack's quest book, the Silent Gear chapter has a quest for most of the casts, and each one unlocks after a quest called Casts. Every quest just asks you to get that cast item, so the chapter works as a checklist of the gear types you can mold.[2]
Getting your casts
The pack changed the cast recipes. Each cast is made by item casting, using the matching Silent Gear part and any molten steel. For the sword, that means a Sword Blade plus molten steel gives you the Sword Cast.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Sword Blade
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/sword_cast
The pack's steel route for the Sword Cast. Other casts follow the same pattern with their own part.
The pack also adds a second route that uses Molten Biosteel from Oritech in place of molten steel. It takes the same Silent Gear part as the steel route.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: allthemods:casting/cast/sword_cast_with_biosteel
Pack-added Biosteel alternative for the same cast.
What the cast quests point you toward
Several quests in the chapter describe what each tool or weapon is good for. These are the ones with notes:[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Sword Cast, the basic sword with reliable damage and reliable speed.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Dagger Cast: low damage, very high attack speed, and it reduces the invincibility time of the target.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Knife Cast. The knife has higher durability than a dagger, but lower damage and speed.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Katana Cast, which does more damage than a sword but is slower.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Machete Cast, which is slightly faster than a sword but does lower damage.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Spear Cast, which does less damage than a sword but has longer reach.[2]
For digging, the chapter has quests for the Hammer Cast (3x3 mining), the Excavator Cast (3x3 digging) and the Paxel Cast (pickaxe, axe and shovel in one). There are also quests for armor, ranged weapon and jewelry casts, but they carry no extra notes.[2]
Uru metal
Uru metal has its own items: Uru Metal Nugget, Uru Metal Ingot and Uru Metal Block. You can craft between nuggets and ingots, and between ingots and blocks, in both directions. The pack also changed the block casting recipe, so any molten Uru metal can be cast into a block.[5]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
- 810× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/storage_blocks/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
Block casting recipe as changed by the pack.
Uru also shows up outside the Silent Gear chapter. In the Productive Bees chapter, "Uru Metal Bee" quest has you pour Molten Uru over an Unobtainium Bee Spawn Egg to get the Uru Metal Bee. One of its tasks is the Uru Metal Block.[3]
How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?
5 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks ties Silent Gear parts into the pack's metal casting setup, and the pack connects it to a few other mods as well. Everything below comes from in-pack recipes and quests.[2][5]
Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks
Each cast is made by casting a Silent Gear part, such as Axe Head, with molten steel. The pack changed these recipes, and they use the item casting recipe type from Productive Metalworks. Any molten steel works, because the recipes accept the whole molten steel tag.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Axe Head
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/axe_cast
One example. The other casts follow the same pattern with their matching Silent Gear part.
The reverse direction exists as well. The pack changed the recipes that turn a cast back into its Silent Gear part, for example Axe Cast into Axe Head. These use this mod's own gear casting recipe type.[5]
Oritech: casting with Molten Biosteel
The pack adds a second route to every cast, using Molten Biosteel instead of molten steel. It follows the same pattern, with the Silent Gear part cast into the matching cast item. This route is added by the pack, so it is not a default of the mod.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: allthemods:casting/cast/axe_cast_with_biosteel
Allthemodium: Uru Metal
Molten Uru Metal is made with an alloying recipe that the pack changed. Its inputs include molten metals from Allthemodium, such as Molten Allthemodium. The recipe below shows the full set.[5]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Once you have the molten metal, you cast it into Uru Metal Ingot with an Ingot Cast. For Uru Metal Nugget you use a Nugget Cast. The pack changed both recipes.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
GeOre: molten gems
GeOre gems can be melted into this mod's molten gem fluids. The pack changed these melting recipes. Ruby gives Molten Ruby, sapphire gives Molten Sapphire and topaz gives Molten Topaz. Both the shards and the blocks can be melted, for example Ruby GeOre Shard and Block Of Ruby GeOre.[5]
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:melting/geore/ruby_shard
Quests
The Silent Gear quest chapter has quests for many of the casts, and each one comes after the Casts quest. You complete them by obtaining the cast, for example Sword Cast or Pickaxe Cast. The tip cast quest explains that the Tip Upgrade is used to increase the mining level of a tool.[2]
Productive Bees has a quest that uses this mod's Uru Metal. "Uru Metal Bee" quest asks you to pour Molten Uru over an Unobtainium Bee Spawn Egg. Its tasks include Uru Metal Block.[3]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?
6 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks shows up in two quest chapters: a big "Silent Gear" chapter built around casts, and one quest in the "Productive Bees" chapter that uses Uru metal.[2][3]
The Silent Gear chapter
Every quest here comes after the chapter's "Casts" quest, and each one has a single task: get the matching cast item. Nothing in the chapter sets an order between the cast quests, so once you've done "Casts" you can take them in any order you like.[2]
Several quests also explain what the tool or weapon does. Here they are, grouped by type.[2]
Melee weapons
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Sword Cast. The quest says it makes the basic sword, with reliable damage and speed.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Dagger Cast. The quest describes the dagger as low damage with very high attack speed, and says it reduces the target's invincibility time.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Knife Cast. The quest says the knife has higher durability than a dagger, but lower damage and speed.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Katana Cast. The quest says the katana does more damage than a sword, but is slower.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Machete Cast. The quest says the machete is slightly faster than a sword, but does lower damage.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Spear Cast. The quest says the spear does less damage than a sword, but has longer reach.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Trident Cast.[2]
Mining and utility tools
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Pickaxe Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Axe Cast, and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Shovel Cast.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Paxel Cast. Its quest title describes it as a pickaxe, axe and shovel in one.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Mattock Cast.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Hammer Cast (titled 3x3 Mining), and a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Excavator Cast (titled 3x3 Digging).[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Prospector Hammer Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Sickle Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Shears Cast, and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Fishing Rod Cast.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Tool Rod Cast.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Tip Cast. The quest explains that the Tip Upgrade raises a tool's mining level. For example, an Iron Pickaxe with a Diamond Tip Upgrade can mine Obsidian and gets a stat boost.[2]
Ranged weapons and shield
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Bow Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Crossbow Cast, and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Slingshot Cast.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Arrow Cast, and a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Shield Cast.[2]
Armor and jewelry
- Armor: a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Helmet Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Chestplate Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Leggings Cast, and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Boots Cast.[2]
- Jewelry: a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Necklace Cast, a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Ring Cast, and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Bracelet Cast.[2]
The Productive Bees chapter
"Uru Metal Bee" quest (Uru Metal Bee) is the other quest that uses this mod. Its description says to pour molten Uru over an Unobtainium Bee Spawn Egg. It has two tasks. The first accepts any one of several Productive Bees items: a configurable honeycomb, a configurable comb, a configurable bee spawn egg, a bee cage or a sturdy bee cage. The second asks for the Uru Metal Block. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter.[3]
