What is Crazy AE2 Addons?

1 part

Crazy AE2 Addons expands Applied Energistics 2 with extra automation, data processing and network control. The mod describes its features as automatic crafting cancelation, NBT-based exports and enchanting automation, and it is currently in early beta. Almost all of its blocks have to be part of an ME network to work.[1][2]

Some highlights: the Crazy Pattern Provider can be upgraded to hold thousands of patterns, and crafting CPUs get priorities and renaming (the quest book has a "Crafting CPU Priorities" quest quest that asks for the Cpu Prio Tuner). The Auto Enchanter enchants books and tools using XP Shards from your ME network. The Auto Builder is a programmable building robot that reads a Builder Pattern and places or removes blocks based on it.[1][3][4][5]

This pack ships version 2.6.2 of the mod.[6]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book gives the mod its own chapter, "Crazy AE2 Addon", in the Production group (chapter 30 of 44). It opens with "Getting Started with Crazy AE2" quest. After that, "Research Begins" quest asks for the Research Station and eight each of the Research Pedestal Bottom and Research Pedestal Top. "Super Singularity" quest asks for the Reinforced Matter Condenser and the Super Singularity, and "Entropy Cradle" quest asks for the Entropy Cradle Controller along with the rest of the cradle.[5]

One of the mod's items also turns up in the "AE2 Addons" chapter, in the Storage and Power group (chapter 15 of 44). That chapter mixes several AE2 addons, and its a quest in "AE2 Addons" quest asks for the Mob Storage Cell 1K. Six of that chapter's quests are not covered here, so check the quest book for those.[7]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star quest path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here. Check the pack's quest book for that.

How do you get started with Crazy AE2 Addons?

4 parts

Welcome to Crazy AE2 Addons in this pack. The mod builds on Applied Energistics 2 and needs almost all of its blocks to be part of an ME network, so get a basic network running before you start. The pack's quest book gives the mod its own chapter, and the order below follows it.[2]

The chapter is called Crazy AE2 Addon and sits in the Production group (chapter 30 of 44). It starts with the checkmark quest "Getting Started with Crazy AE2" quest. Research Begins, Super Singularity, Entropy Cradle, Spawner Extractor and Penrose Sphere all come after that quest. The research branch is the one that leads to the Recipe Fabricator, so start there.[5]

Step 1: the Research Station and pedestals

The quest "Research Begins" quest asks for one Research Station, eight Research Pedestal Bottom and eight Research Pedestal Top.[5]

Step 2: the Research Unit

Next comes the quest a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon". It asks for a Research Unit, 43 Research Unit Frame, an Sky Stone Tank and 53 Vibrant Quartz Glass. Plan your glass supply early.[5]

Step 3: Data Drive and Research Fluid

The quest "How to Start Research" quest asks for a Data Drive and a Research Fluid Bucket. The Data Drive is made in an inscriber.[5][8]

This Data Drive recipe is an inscriber recipe, and the dump lists it as the mod's own.

The pack changed the Research Fluid Bucket recipe, so don't rely on a recipe you remember from the mod's defaults. It is also an inscriber recipe. The recipe that produces the research fluid itself is changed by the pack too.[8]

Step 4: your first research project and the Recipe Fabricator

The quest "First Research Project" quest asks for another Data Drive. After it, "Using the Recipe Fabricator" quest asks for the Recipe Fabricator.[5]

The data drive matters here because research is switched on in this pack. The option general.Research.researchEnabled is true, and its description says that if it were false the Recipe Fabricator would work without a data drive.[9]

Tip: After the Recipe Fabricator quest, the book continues with three untitled checkmark quests. Quests such as Ejector, Energy Interface, Crafting CPU Priorities, Auto Enchanter and Auto Builder sit further along in the same chapter, so you don't need them for these first steps.[5]

How does Crazy AE2 Addons work?

10 parts

Crazy AE2 Addons builds on vanilla AE2, so almost every block in it has to be part of an ME network to work. Your ME power is what feeds most of the machines below.[2]

Power: getting energy in and out

The Energy Interface is a passive cable part that makes your network's stored AE look like a Forge Energy battery. It only lets you pull out the lower of 30% of your total AE capacity or 500MFE, and the conversion is 2 FE for 1 AE in both directions. It is enabled in this pack through general.EnergyParts.energyInterfaceEnabled.[9][10]

The Energy Exporter goes the other way: it takes power from the network and pushes it into an adjacent machine. Speed cards raise its rate exponentially, from 1 FE/t with no upgrades to about max int FE/t with 6 upgrades. It turns itself off when the power left in your network falls below 33%, so it won't drain you dry.[11]

The exporter also has a GregTech EU mode that you switch on by inserting a battery. In this pack general.EnergyParts.energyExporterGT is set to false, so don't count on EU export from it here.[9][11]

To see how much power a link carries, place the Ampere Meter between two energy-using blocks. Right-click it and the arrow button swaps which side is input and which is output. It shows an average over a few ticks (for example 10k FE/t), and it blocks current flowing the wrong way like a diode. You can also set thresholds for a comparator redstone output.[12]

Moving items, fluids and energy with P2P

The extracting P2P tunnels actively pull from the block they sit on and push into the linked outputs, so nothing has to be inserted into them. There are item, fluid and FE versions. You link them with a memory card, right-clicking the source first and then the targets. The in-game guide quotes 64 items per tick and 64 buckets per tick, but the pack's own config is what counts here:[9][13]

The Chunky Fluid P2P Tunnel is a different tool for fluids. You set a chunk size in mB (for example 1000), and it only sends once it has collected at least that much, moving exactly that amount to the next output in line. Below the chunk size, nothing happens.[14]

Entropy Cradle

The Entropy Cradle is a multiblock energy accumulator that transmutes structures. It charges only from AE energy and stops at 600 million FE, lighting up six capacitor layers as it fills. When it is full, a redstone pulse discharges it, and if a known recipe structure is inside, that structure is replaced with a powerful block. In this pack the capacity and the cost per operation are both 600,000,000 FE, and it can receive 50,000,000 FE per second.[9][15]

Because the cost per operation equals the capacity, every transmutation uses a full charge. You can browse the cradle recipes in JEI or EMI. The pack adds its own cradle recipes for the Infinity 9 Block, the Spawner Extractor Controller, the Compact Machines maximum machine block, and Blood Altar tier card blocks 3 to 5.[9][15][16]

Penrose Sphere

The Penrose Sphere is built around a black hole fed with singularities, and the pack's config sets its safety limits and output rules. Its parts include the Penrose Controller, Coil, Port, Injection Port, Mass Emitter, Heat Emitter, Heat Vent, Hawking Vent and Penrose Frame.[9][17]

The Penrose Heat Emitter has its own crafting recipe.[8]

Research and the Recipe Fabricator

Research is switched on in this pack. If general.Research.researchEnabled were false, the Recipe Fabricator would work without a data drive. The fabricator has drive, input and output slots, and some recipes only run once the matching research is unlocked from a Data Drive.[9][17][18][19]

The pack adds research of its own. The Infinity 9 research costs 500 energy per tick and consumes stacks of Super Singularity, Terrasteel blocks, Dense Energy Cells and more. Once unlocked, a fabrication recipe turns an Infinity 9 Block plus 500 mB of liquid dragon breath into an Infinity 9 ingot.[18][19]

Entity Ticker

The Entity Ticker is an ME part that ticks the machine in front of it several times per game tick. Right-click it to see its energy usage. In this pack it is enabled and accepts up to 8 speed cards. The pack also blocks it from working on Project Expansion power flowers and Solar Flux panels.[9][20]

The guide page quotes a base draw of 256 FE/t that quadruples with each upgrade step. The pack sets its own cost multiplier of 32,768 through general.Features.EntityTickerCost, so trust the number the GUI shows.[9][20]

The Entity Ticker is also gated behind research in this pack. That research draws 500 energy per tick and consumes Aureate Ingots and Nether Star Blocks.[21]

Auto Builder

The Auto Builder places and removes blocks from a Builder Pattern. Select two corners with the pattern (right-click for the first, shift right-click for the second), right-click air to save the structure, and put the pattern in the builder. Only one pattern fits at a time. The builder needs an ME network, all materials must be in ME storage, and it withdraws the entire energy cost upfront, so it won't start if power is short. A redstone signal from the top starts the run, and it pulses redstone on its sides when finished.[3]

Shift right-clicking the pattern opens a text editor. Its delay between commands defaults to 20 ticks, and 0 gives maximum speed. Programs have the form BLOCK_MAP | MACROS | MAIN_PROGRAM, with macros optional. Movement is relative to the builder's facing, and the language is strict, so unbalanced brackets or a missing block ID give an error.[3][22]

Auto Enchanter

The Auto Enchanter must sit exactly 2 blocks under an enchanting table, and bookshelves around the table raise the enchantment power. It pays in XP Shards from your network (1 shard is 10 XP) and takes lapis. You pick one of three levels, and the GUI shows the estimated XP cost. Toggles refill lapis and books from the network automatically. With Apotheosis installed, it also reads the shelf stats. The pack's XP cost multiplier is 10 (general.Machines.autoEnchanterCost).[4][9]

Crafting and patterns

With the Cpu Prio Tuner, you right-click a block of a crafting CPU cluster and enter a priority number. Higher numbers get items first when CPUs compete, and if all priorities match it behaves like vanilla AE2.[23]

The Crafting Scheduler submits a chosen craft and amount each time it gets a redstone pulse, as long as a CPU is free. The Impulsed Pattern Provider re-sends its last used pattern on each pulse, which helps with chanced recipes. The Ejector pushes resources into the block in front of it on a pulse, and it can load its settings from a processing pattern.[24][25][26]

The Crazy Pattern Provider starts with 72 pattern slots, and a Crazy Upgrade item adds 9 more. This pack sets general.CrazyPatternProvider.crazyProviderMaxAddRows to -1, which means there is no limit on upgrades. It keeps its patterns when broken.[9][27]

Mob handling

Mobs are stored as data in the network. The Mob Annihilation Plane captures a mob in front of it into Mob Storage cells, and the Mob Export Bus releases chosen mobs back into the world onto an air block. The Mob Formation Plane also spawns mobs, and the block in front of it and the one above must both be air.[28][29][30]

The Mob Farm Controller is a multiblock that simulates killing stored mobs. It follows their loot tables, produces XP shards and puts the results into the network, skipping NBT and unstackable drops. The structure is a 5x5x6 cube, the farm stops if it is broken, and no real mobs spawn. Speed cards push it up to 64 mobs per second, and Looting, Experience and Acceleration cards are optional.[31]

How do you progress through Crazy AE2 Addons?

7 parts

Crazy AE2 Addons builds on Applied Energistics 2 and needs almost all of its blocks to be part of an ME network to work. In the pack's quest book, it has its own chapter, "Crazy AE2 Addon", in the Production group (chapter 30 of 44). Everything starts at "Getting Started with Crazy AE2" quest, then branches out into research, Super Singularity, the Entropy Cradle and the Spawner Extractor. A few extras, such as the mob storage cell, sit in the "AE2 Addons" chapter (Storage and Power group, chapter 15 of 44).[2][5][7]

Branch 1: Research

"Research Begins" quest asks for a Research Station, 8 Research Pedestal Bottom and 8 Research Pedestal Top. The next quest, a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon", is the big build: a Research Unit, 43 Research Unit Frame, a sky stone tank and 53 vibrant quartz glass.[5][8]

Mobs: Spawner Extractor to Auto Enchanter

  1. "Spawner Extractor Controller" quest asks for the Spawner Extractor Controller. The next quest, "Spawner Extractor" quest, wants that controller, 101 Spawner Extractor Wall and 36 vibrant quartz glass.[5][8]
  2. "Mob Farm Controller" quest asks for a Mob Farm Controller, 9 collectors, 27 damage blocks, 85 walls, 36 inputs and 24 quartz glass.[5][8]
  3. a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon" asks for an Xp Shard and the Mob Key Selector.[5][8]
  4. "Auto Enchanter" quest follows, and the Auto Enchanter spends XP Shards from your ME network, where 1 shard is 10 XP.[4][5]

The pack changed both the Mob Farm Wall and Mob Farm Damage recipes, and the mob farm quest needs 85 walls.[5][8]

Energy storage tiers

"k-tier Energy Storage" quest covers Energy Storage 1K, Energy Storage 4K, Energy Storage 16K, Energy Storage 64K and Energy Storage 256K. "M-tier Energy Storage" quest comes after it and goes from Energy Storage 1M up through 4M, 16M and 64M to Energy Storage 256M, which the pack also uses in its creative FE cell recipe.[5][32]

Gadget quests

Several single-item quests each follow an untitled checkmark quest: "Ejector" quest, "Crazy Pattern Multiplier" quest, "Energy Interface" quest, "Crafting CPU Priorities" quest, "Auto Builder and Builder Pattern" quest, "Entity Ticker" quest, "Crazy Pattern Provider" quest, "Energy Exporter" quest and "Extracting P2P Tunnels" quest. The pack changed the recipes for the Builder Pattern, Crazy Pattern Provider, Auto Builder, Experience Upgrade Card, Looting Upgrade Card and Wormhole Tunnel.[5][8]

Endgame

The pack has its own research for the Entity Ticker. Its entry has a duration value of 1,036,800 and uses 500 energy per tick. It asks for nether star blocks (64 per entry) and aureate ingots (32 per entry).[21]

The Infinity 9 Block research is far bigger, with a duration value of 41,472,000 and 500 energy per tick. Its consumables are entries of 64 items each, including Super Singularity. Its unlock key is the one the pack's fabrication recipe requires, which turns an Infinity 9 Block plus 500 mB of liquid dragon breath into an Infinity 9. The quest book tracks these as "Infinity 9 Block" quest and "Infinity 9" quest.[5][18][19]

The mod's items also feed the pack's endgame crafting. The Extended Crafting recipe for the creative FE cell uses Energy Storage 256M, and the Creative Vending Upgrade recipe uses Super Singularity Block.[32][33]

How does Crazy AE2 Addons work with other mods?

6 parts

Crazy AE2 Addons builds on Applied Energistics 2, and almost all of its blocks need to sit on an ME network to work. So AE2 is the mod it connects to most. Most other links come through the pack's own endgame recipes.[2][8]

Built from AE2 parts

Looking at the recipe dump, 15 shaped recipes combine AE2 and Crazy AE2 items into Crazy AE2 items, 13 combine AE2 and vanilla Minecraft items, and 10 use AE2 items alone. A further 7 use the mod's own fabrication recipe type with AE2 inputs. So you'll be crafting a lot of AE2 parts first. The Crazy Calculator is a good example:[8]

Pack-added research and endgame recipes

The pack adds a research recipe that uses Crazy AE2's research system. It mixes AE2 blocks and Super Singularities with blocks from several other mods. It unlocks a research key labelled Infinity 9. The pack then adds a fabrication recipe that turns the Infinity 9 Block into Infinity 9, and it needs that research plus 500 liquid dragon breath. In the quest book these steps are "Infinity 9 Block" quest and "Infinity 9" quest.[5][18][19]

The pack added this research recipe.

The research for the Entity Ticker is also changed by the pack. It now asks for 64 Aureate ingot and 384 Nether Star Block.[8][21]

In the quest book

The "Crazy AE2 Addon" chapter sits in the Production group (chapter 30 of 44) and has 39 quests. Some ask for AE2 blocks: "Mob Farm Controller" quest asks for 24 Quartz Glass, and a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon" and "Spawner Extractor" quest ask for AE2 vibrant quartz glass. The chapter also holds the quests a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon", a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon" and a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon", which ask for items from the bmaddon namespace.[5]

The "AE2 Addons" chapter (Storage and Power group, chapter 15 of 44, 43 quests) places a quest in "AE2 Addons" among quests for other AE2 add-ons, such as "Quantum Computer" quest. The text of 29 of that chapter's quests is in the quest book itself.[7]

Energy and compatibility

The Ampere Meter works with any Forge Energy machine, so you can drop it between machines from other mods to read the energy flow.[12]

The mod's own project page says it plays nicely with Advanced AE, Extended AE, Expanded AE, Mega Cells, Modern AE2 Additions, Apotheosis (the Auto Enchanter supports its enchantments) and Applied Mek, Ars and Bot. That is the mod's own claim, so check the recipes above for what this pack actually does.[1]

"k-tier Energy Storage" quest asks for the 1K, 4K, 16K, 64K and 256K energy storage blocks, starting with Energy Storage 1K. "M-tier Energy Storage" quest comes after it and asks for the 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M versions, ending with Energy Storage 256M.[5]

Single-item quests

These quests each come after an untitled checkmark quest and ask you for the items below:[5]

Elsewhere in the book

The Crazy AE2 Addon chapter also has three Blood Altar Tier Card quests, in the order a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon", a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon" and a quest in "Crazy AE2 Addon". These ask for items from another mod.[5]

One more quest involving this mod is in the "AE2 Addons" chapter, in the Storage and Power group. a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for the Mob Storage Cell 1K and comes after an untitled checkmark quest.[7]

Which Crazy AE2 Addons config options matter?

4 parts

Crazy AE2 Addons keeps all its settings in one file, config/crazyae2addons-common.toml. Here are the options you are most likely to run into, with the values this pack uses.[9]

Penrose Sphere

This is the part of the file the pack explicitly touches. Four options are flagged as changed by the pack: general.PenroseSphere.Balance.penroseDutyCompensation, general.PenroseSphere.Balance.penroseMassFactorMax, general.PenroseSphere.Meltdown.penroseMeltdownExplosionsEnabled and general.PenroseSphere.penroseGtTiers. The values listed are 1.3333333333333333 for duty compensation, 2 for the max mass factor, explosions on, and every GT tier from ULV to MAX. These match the mod defaults shown in the file, so the pack is not obviously making the Sphere easier or harder there.[9]

Watch out: Meltdown explosions are enabled in this pack, so keep heat well under the overheat threshold before you push flow up.[9]

P2P tunnels and wormholes

Other machines

Research and energy parts

Research is enabled (general.Research.researchEnabled). If it were false, the Recipe Fabricator would work without a data drive. The pack also sets these research unit extra values:[9]

The Energy Exporter (general.EnergyParts.energyExporterEnabled) and Energy Interface (general.EnergyParts.energyInterfaceEnabled) are both enabled. The exporter will not output EU from a GregTech battery, because general.EnergyParts.energyExporterGT is false.[9]

What changed in Crazy AE2 Addons between versions?

3 parts

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Crazy AE2 Addons 2.6.2. The mod was first included in pack version 0.0.45.4 or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, newest first, and cover only the releases listed there.[6]

2.6.2 (the version in your pack)

  • Added some config options.[34]
  • Fixed the emitter terminal crashing when there was a huge amount of emitters in the network.[34]

2.4.0: the big one

Watch out: Version 2.4.0 removed the programmed circuit card feature, and the author says to use pattern buffers instead. Pattern Providers no longer set the circuit in GregTech machines when pushing patterns. The Pattern Modifier was removed too. The changelog warns that some items will disappear and some things may stop working after the update, so make a backup first. Your pack is on 2.6.2, which comes after this change.[6][35]
  • The Ignore NBT option has been moved to the Pattern Multiplier.[35]
  • The Pattern Multiplier recipe and the Mob Key Selector recipe were changed in the mod.[35]

Earlier fixes and additions

  • 2.0.18: fixed an NPE that sometimes occurred with the research units, and merged a PR that fixes advanced AE CPUs not working.[36]
  • 2.0.17: fixed the crazy pattern provider cable part sometimes crashing on servers.[37]
  • 2.0.6: added modulo to the math parser and improved the tag matcher a bit.[38]
  • 2.0.2: added markdown tables to displays.[39]
