What is Botanical Machinery?
2 parts
Botanical Machinery is there to make Botania easier to automate. It adds a set of machines that cover most of what Botania asks you to do by hand. This pack includes version 1.20.1-3.0.10 of the mod.[1][2]
What the machines do
- Alfheim Market: a single block with a tiny Alfheim Portal inside, so you can trade with the elves without building a gigantic portal.[1]
- Industrial Agglomeration Factory: an Agglomeration Plate normally needs a stabilising platform underneath it, but this machine does not.[1]
- Mechanical Mana Pool: stores mana and can do mana infusion. Catalysts go into its inventory instead of being placed below it.[1]
- Mechanical Runic Altar: a normal Runic Altar that can be automated using hoppers.[1]
- Mechanical Daisy: put a Floating Pure Daisy on an Elementium platform and it processes 8 blocks at once in a single block space. It can also handle fluids.[1]
- Mechanical Brewery: an improved Botanical Brewery that gets its mana from sparks.[1]
- Mechanical Apothecary: an improved Apothecary that uses water, seeds and ingredients to create flowers.[1]
The machines work with other mods too, so you can automate them with Refined Storage or Applied Energistics.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
This pack includes the mod, and its quest book covers it in the chapter "Botanical Machinery + Extra", in the Production group (chapter 28 of 44, with 74 quests). The chapter opens with the Elementium Ingot quest a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", which has no prerequisite listed.[2][3]
Right after that quest come the machine quests, each asking you to get one of the machines described above: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[1][3]
Most of these machines then lead into tiered upgrade lines that ask for items from a separate botanicalextramachinery namespace. The Mechanical Mana Pool, which stores mana and can do mana infusion, is followed by a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". The Mana Battery quest is followed by a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", which asks for the Creative Mana Battery.[1][3]
How do you get started with Botanical Machinery?
5 parts
Botanical Machinery adds machines that automate Botania, so you can stop hand-feeding pools, altars and apothecaries. The first job is to get your hands on the basic machines, and the quest book lays the path out for you.[1]
The mod's quests are in the "Botanical Machinery + Extra" chapter (Production group, chapter 28 of 44). It has a quest for a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", and every Botanical Machinery machine quest in the chapter comes after it. The book does not force an order between the machines, so the order below is my suggestion.[3]
Mechanical Mana Pool
Start with the Mechanical Mana Pool (a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra"). It stores mana like a normal pool and can do mana infusion too. Catalysts go into its inventory instead of under it. In this pack's config it holds 100,000 mana (MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalManaPool).[1][3][5]

Mana Battery
The Mana Battery (a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra") is your big mana store. In this pack's config it holds 10,000,000 mana (MaxManaCapacity.manaBattery). Its recipe uses a Mana Emerald Block, so you need to make that first.[3][5][6]
Mana Emerald is made by mana infusion, and the infusion recipe takes any emerald. A Mana Emerald Block can be infused straight from an emerald block, or compressed from Mana Emeralds. This is where your Mechanical Mana Pool's infusion comes in.[1][6]

What comes next
The same chapter also has the Mechanical Brewery (it gets its mana from sparks), the Industrial Agglomeration Factory (a replacement for the stabilising platform an Agglomeration Plate normally needs) and the Alfheim Market (elf trading in a single block). The rest of the chapter covers the Botanical Extra Machinery upgrades, catalysts and sparks.[1][3]
How does Botanical Machinery work?
5 parts
Botanical Machinery exists to automate Botania. Most of its machines are upgraded, self-contained versions of things you already know from Botania, built so that hoppers and storage networks can feed them. The mod's own description sums it up as making your farms more compact.[1][7]
The mod says all its machines are compatible with other mods, and that you can automate everything with Refined Storage or Applied Energistics.[1]
What each machine does
- Alfheim Market: a single block with a tiny Alfheim Portal inside. You can trade with the elves without building a gigantic portal around it.[1]
- Industrial Agglomeration Factory: an Agglomeration Plate normally needs a stabilising platform underneath it. This machine removes that requirement.[1]
- Mechanical Mana Pool: stores a lot of mana and can do mana infusion. Catalysts work as usual, with one difference: you put them into the pool's inventory instead of placing them below it.[1]
- Mechanical Runic Altar: a normal Runic Altar that you can automate with hoppers.[1]
- Mechanical Daisy: you plant a Floating Pure Daisy onto a platform made of Elementium. It then processes 8 blocks at once in a single block space, and it can handle fluids too.[1]
- Mechanical Brewery: an improved Botanical Brewery that receives its mana from sparks, so brews are easy to automate.[1]
- Mechanical Apothecary: an improved Apothecary that uses water, seeds and ingredients to create flowers.[1]
This pack also has a Mechanical Mana Infuser. The sources only show it in the language file and the config, so there is no description of its behaviour here.[5][7]
Mana storage in this pack
Each mana machine has its own maximum mana capacity, set in the pack's server config. These are the values this pack uses:[5]
- Alfheim Market: 100,000 (MaxManaCapacity.alfheimMarket)[5][7]
- Industrial Agglomeration Factory: 1,000,000 (MaxManaCapacity.industrialAgglomerationFactory)[5][7]
- Mana Battery: 10,000,000 (MaxManaCapacity.manaBattery)[5][7]
- Mechanical Brewery: 100,000 (MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalBrewery)[5][7]
- Mechanical Mana Infuser: 5,000,000 (MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalManaInfuser)[5]
- Mechanical Mana Pool: 100,000 (MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalManaPool)[5][7]
- Mechanical Runic Altar: 250,000 (MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalRunicAltar)[5]
The config also sets lower limits for two of these. The Industrial Agglomeration Factory's capacity can't go below 500,000, and the Mechanical Mana Infuser's can't go below 2,500,000.[5]
The Mana Battery is the big storage block, and the mod shows it working alongside the other machines. To make one, you need a Mana Emerald Block, which you can get by compressing nine Mana Emerald or by mana infusion of an emerald block.[1][6]

The pack also uses the Creative Mana Battery as one of the ingredients in its Creative Bin recipe.[9]
Machine speed
The config has a working duration multiplier for the Alfheim Market, the Industrial Agglomeration Factory, the Mechanical Apothecary, Brewery, Daisy, Mana Infuser, Mana Pool and Runic Altar, and this pack sets each of those to 1. The config limits how far you can push them: the Alfheim Market allows 1 to 25, the Brewery 1 to 50, the Runic Altar 1 to 100, and the Factory and the Mana Infuser 1 to 5,000. The Apothecary, Daisy and Mana Pool only have a minimum of 1.[5]
The Alfheim Market also has a recipe cost option, which this pack sets to 500. See AlfheimMarket.recipeCost.[5]
Automation and storage networks
The pack's config has an auto export allow list that is switched on. It names the Applied Energistics 2 pattern provider and cable bus, plus pattern providers and their cable parts from several AE2 addons. You can see it in autoExportAllowed.allow_list and autoExportAllowed.elements.[5]
How do you progress through Botanical Machinery?
5 parts
The pack's quest book covers Botanical Machinery in one chapter, "Botanical Machinery + Extra", in the Production group. It asks for the mod's own machines first, then a long ladder of extra machine, spark, upgrade and catalyst items. The recipe dump lists the mod's own machines as in-pack recipes.[3][6]
Start: Elementium Ingot and the mechanical machines
The first quest in the chapter is a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", which asks you to hand in an Elementium Ingot. Several of the machine recipes below use Elementium Ingots too. These quests all come straight after it:[3][6]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra": asks for the Mechanical Daisy[3][6]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra": asks for the Mechanical Apothecary[3][6]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra": asks for the Mechanical Mana Pool[3][6]

- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra": asks for the Alfheim Market[3][6]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra": asks for the Mana Battery[3][6]
The same quest also unlocks the Orechid, Jaded Amaranthus and Greenhouse quests. The book does not force an order between the machines, so you can take them in whichever order suits your base. Here are the in-pack recipes for each one, which the dump lists as the mod's own recipes.[3][6]

The extra machine tiers
In the quest book, each extra machine line starts with a Basic quest placed after the matching mechanical machine quest. Upgraded, Advanced and Ultimate quests follow, each placed after the one before it. The Orechid line starts after the plain Orechid quest instead. Here is how the quest book lays out these lines:[3]
- Apothecary line: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
- Mana Pool line: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
- Pure Daisy line: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
- Orechid line: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
- Runic Altar line: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
- Alfheim Market line: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
- Industrial Agglomeration Factory line: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
The sources I have do not include recipes for these extra tiers, so check their entries in the site's item pages for how to craft them.[3]
Sparks, upgrades and catalysts
In the quest book the spark quests form a chain, each placed after the one before: a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and finally a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" is placed after that last spark, and also after the Basic upgrade quest. The Base, Malachite, Saffron, Shadow and Crimson Sparks are also ingredients in the in-pack Creative Mana Battery recipe.[3][6]
The a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" quest has no quest before it in the book. The upgrade and catalyst quests are placed after it, including the 4x, 16x, 32x and 64x stack flower upgrades, three tiers each of mana and energy storage, the mana generation upgrade, the Speed Catalyst and several Infinity catalysts. The upgrade from a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" is used twice in the Creative Mana Battery recipe.[3][6]
Endgame: Creative Mana Battery
The last machine item in this chapter is the Creative Mana Battery. In the Production chapter, a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for it right after the Mana Battery quest. The EndGame chapter has its own a quest in "EndGame" quest asking for it, placed after "The Beginning of the End" quest.[3][4][6]
The pack added this recipe itself, using Extended Crafting combination crafting. The script sets a power cost of 1,000,000,000 and a power rate of 1,000,000,000. Its inputs include the extra-machine sparks and dragonstone blocks, so the tier chains above feed directly into it.[6][8]

How does Botanical Machinery work with other mods?
3 parts
Botanical Machinery is all about automating Botania, so most of its links to other mods are Botania links. The mod's project page also says all its machines are compatible with other mods, and that you can automate everything with Refined Storage or Applied Energistics.[1]
Botania: machines built from Botania blocks
Each machine is crafted in a normal crafting grid from the Botania block it automates, plus other Botania parts. That means you need to be comfortable with Botania before you start on these. Here is the Mechanical Apothecary as an example.[6]

What each machine does, according to the mod's page: the Mechanical Daisy processes 8 blocks at once in a single block space and can also handle fluids. The Mechanical Mana Pool wants its catalysts inside its inventory, not placed below it. The Mechanical Brewery receives mana from sparks.[1]
The link also goes the other way. The mod's Mana Emerald is used in recipes that make Botania's own Mana Tablet and Runic Altar.[6]

Botanical Extra Machinery
The pack also includes Botanical Extra Machinery, which builds on these machines. Its Basic versions, like the Base Mana Pool, are crafted from the matching mechanical machine from this mod, together with Botania's Greater Band of Mana and extra Malachite parts.[6]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: botanicalextramachinery:base_mana_pool
The quest book covers both mods in one chapter, "Botanical Machinery + Extra", in the Production group (chapter 28 of 44, 74 quests). The machine quests unlock after a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". Each upgrade then follows its machine, for example a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". The text of some quests in that chapter isn't covered here, so check the quest book for those.[3]
Endgame creative items
The Creative Mana Battery is where the pack goes furthest. Its recipe is added by the pack, not the mod, and uses Extended Crafting's combination crafting. It pulls in parts from Avaritia, Botania, Botanical Extra Machinery and Mystical Agradditions, plus the regular Mana Battery. In the quest book, a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" comes right after a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3][6]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Botanical Machinery?
3 parts
This mod appears in two quest chapters. The main one is "Botanical Machinery + Extra", and "EndGame" has one quest asking for the creative version of the Mana Battery.[3][4]
Botanical Machinery + Extra (Production)
This chapter is in the Production group of the quest book. It mixes quests for this mod's machines with quests for items from the extra machinery add-on (the botanicalextramachinery namespace). The machine quests for this mod all unlock after one starter quest, a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", which asks you to get a Botania Elementium Ingot.[3]
Once you have the ingot, the chapter asks you to get each of this mod's machines in turn:[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Mechanical Apothecary.[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Mechanical Brewery.[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Mechanical Daisy.[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Mechanical Mana Pool.[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Mechanical Runic Altar.[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Alfheim Market.[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Industrial Agglomeration Factory.[3]
- a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Mana Battery. After it, a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" asks for the Creative Mana Battery.[3]
What follows the machines
Most of these machine quests are followed by quests asking for add-on versions of the same machine. After the Apothecary quest, the chapter asks for a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". After the Mana Pool quest, it asks for a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
After the Runic Altar quest, the chapter asks for a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". After the Mechanical Daisy quest, it asks for a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
After the Alfheim Market quest, the chapter asks for a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". After the Industrial Agglomeration Factory quest, it asks for a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", then a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". In the book, the Mechanical Brewery quest has no follow-up quest.[3]
Two other branches in the chapter belong to the add-on. a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" unlocks a large set of upgrade and catalyst quests. The spark branch starts at a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and continues through a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra", a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" and a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra" to a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra". That last quest is followed by a quest in "Botanical Machinery + Extra".[3]
EndGame (Storyline)
EndGame is in the Storyline group of the quest book. Here the mod appears once: a quest in "EndGame" asks for the Creative Mana Battery again. It unlocks after "The Beginning of the End" quest, the same point where many other creative item quests open up.[4]
After that, a quest in "EndGame" asks for a Creative Bin and lists the Creative Mana Battery quest among its prerequisites, along with a quest in "EndGame", a quest in "EndGame", a quest in "EndGame" and a quest in "EndGame".[4]
Which Botanical Machinery config options matter?
5 parts
Botanical Machinery has a server file and a client file, and the pack ships both with its own values. Here is what they contain, so you know what your machines will do.[5][11]
Mana capacity
The server file sets how much mana each machine can hold. The Mana Battery is the biggest store by far.[5]
- MaxManaCapacity.manaBattery is 10,000,000.[5]
- MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalManaInfuser is 5,000,000, and the option has a minimum of 2,500,000.[5]
- MaxManaCapacity.industrialAgglomerationFactory is 1,000,000, and the option has a minimum of 500,000.[5]
- MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalRunicAltar is 250,000.[5]
- MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalManaPool, MaxManaCapacity.mechanicalBrewery and MaxManaCapacity.alfheimMarket are all 100,000.[5]
Working speed
Every working duration multiplier is set to 1 in this pack, so no machine has a changed working time from these options. That covers the Alfheim Market, Industrial Agglomeration Factory, Mechanical Apothecary, Mechanical Brewery, Mechanical Daisy, Mechanical Mana Infuser, Mechanical Mana Pool and Mechanical Runic Altar. If you want to tune a machine, these are the limits each option allows:[5]
- WorkingDurationMultiplier.alfheimMarket accepts 1 to 25.[5]
- WorkingDurationMultiplier.mechanicalBrewery accepts 1 to 50.[5]
- WorkingDurationMultiplier.mechanicalRunicAltar accepts 1 to 100.[5]
- WorkingDurationMultiplier.industrialAgglomerationFactory and WorkingDurationMultiplier.mechanicalManaInfuser both accept 1 to 5,000.[5]
- WorkingDurationMultiplier.mechanicalApothecary, WorkingDurationMultiplier.mechanicalDaisy and WorkingDurationMultiplier.mechanicalManaPool only have a minimum of 1.[5]
Alfheim Market cost
AlfheimMarket.recipeCost is set to 500 in this pack, and the option has a minimum of 1.[5]
Auto export
autoExportAllowed.allow_list is true, and autoExportAllowed.elements holds the AE2 pattern provider and cable bus, plus pattern providers and their part versions from the Advanced AE, Crazy AE2 Addons, Extended AE and MEGA Cells addons.[5]

What changed in Botanical Machinery between versions?
2 parts
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Botanical Machinery 1.20.1-3.0.10. The mod was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier. No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
1.20.1-3.0.10 (the version in the pack)
- The tag botania:seed_apothecary_reagent was added to the botanicalmachinery:mechanical_apothecary_catalysts tag, so those items now work as catalysts for the mechanical apothecary.[12]
1.20.1-3.0.8
- Auto-export to adjacent inventories was added, and you can adjust it in the config.[13]
- Fixed a crash that happened when Mythic Botany was not loaded.[13]
- Added compatibility with Mythic Botany.[13]
The changelogs don't say which config option controls auto-export, so check the mod's config file in game if you want to tweak it.[13]
