What is Applied Flux?
2 parts
Applied Flux adds cells that store energy (FE) inside your ME network, plus the Flux Accessor, which lets you get that energy back out and into machines. This pack ships version 1.21-2.1.5-neoforge.[1][2]
It's for you if you already run an ME network and want to manage your power through it instead of building separate battery banks. The in-game guide sums it up as managing your power system with AE.[1][3]
What you get
- FE storage cells. Their capacity is measured in bytes, just like item and fluid storage cells. By default every byte holds 1,048,576 FE, and that can be changed in the Applied Flux config. At those defaults the cells range from 1,073,741,824 FE up to 281,474,976,710,656 FE for the largest one.[4]
- Flux Accessor. It inputs and outputs the energy stored in your ME network. By default it has no I/O limits, and it has a fast mode and a normal mode. Fast mode outputs energy every tick, which can cause lag if you use it heavily. Normal mode bases its output on the target's stored energy and won't cause lag.[5]
- Terminal support. You can see how much energy is stored and charge or discharge items right in the terminal. The energy appears as a green fluid, but it isn't a real fluid, so buckets won't work. Batteries and electric tools will.[1][6]
- Portable flux cells. These hold a quarter of the size of the normal cells, but they can charge the items in your inventory automatically once you install the right upgrade in them.[7]
Where it fits in this pack
Two materials come up again and again. The Energy Processor is needed by every energy device, because it routes energy through the ME system. The Insulating Resin stops stored energy from leaking and is required to make FE cell housing.[8][9]
The quest book touches the mod in a few places. The Energy Processor is a task item in a quest in "Tier 6: Ascension" and "Creative Energy Cell" quest, both in the creative chapter. Insulating Resin is one of the accepted items for "Special Fluid Cows" quest in the resource generation chapter.[10][11]
Unverified The sources I have don't show the in-pack crafting recipes for Applied Flux items, or whether the pack changed any of the mod's values. Treat the capacity numbers above as mod defaults and check the recipes in-game. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Applied Flux?
4 parts
Applied Flux lets you store power as FE inside your ME network, in special cells. The first steps are a short chain: a resin, a processor, a cell, and then a way to get the energy back out.[1][3]
First: make Insulating Resin
Start with Insulating Resin. It stops stored energy from leaking, and you need it to make FE cell housing. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so check the one below rather than any outside guide.[9][12]

The quest "Special Fluid Cows" quest in the resource_generation chapter accepts Insulating Resin as one of its alternative items, so it can double as quest progress.[11]
Second: get an Energy Processor
The Energy Processor manages energy flows in your ME system, and every energy device needs one to route energy. In this pack it is made in the Crystal Assembler, and the pack changed that recipe too. It is also a task item in the creative chapter quests a quest in "Tier 6: Ascension" and "Creative Energy Cell" quest.[8][10][12]

Third: build your first FE cell
Redstone Crystal is the Applied Flux material for packing a lot of energy into very little space. It goes into your first storage component, the 1k ME Energy Storage Component.[12][13]

Next, make an ME FE Cell Housing, which is where the resin gets used. Then combine the housing with your core to get a 1k ME FE Storage Cell. The pack also has a direct crafting recipe for the cell that skips the housing.[9][12]

Cell capacity is measured in bytes, like AE2 item and fluid cells. By default every byte holds 1,048,576 FE, and the Appflux config can change that.[4]
Once you want bigger cells, each tier is built on the one below it. The 4k, 16k, 64k and 256k cores all use an Energy Processor, which is a good reason to stock up on them.[12]

Fourth: get energy in and out
The Flux Accessor lets you input and output the energy stored in your ME network. It has no I/O limits by default, and the Appflux config can change that. It pulls energy from the network and needs an external cable to push energy out.[5][14]

You can also turn it into its part version, Flux Accessor, and back again. If you want AE devices to accept or send energy, use an Induction Card.[12][14]
How does Applied Flux work?
5 parts
Applied Flux lets your ME network handle power, not just items and fluids. You store FE in special cells, then move that energy in and out of the network with a few dedicated devices. This section covers the cells, the Flux Accessor and how energy is displayed and moved.[1][3]
FE storage cells
The ME FE Storage Cell is the main way to store power with this mod. Capacities are based on bytes, just like item and fluid storage cells. The pack keeps the mod's default of 1,048,576 FE per byte, set in flux_cell.amount.[4][15]
In this pack the FE cell tiers run from 1,073,741,824 FE up to 281,474,976,710,656 FE. The biggest cell holds over 200 trillion FE. If you change the per-byte value in the config, all of these capacities change with it.[1][4][15]
Portable FE cells are a quarter of the size of the normal FE cells. With the right item installed in one, it automatically charges the items in your inventory.[7]
Making a cell
Every cell starts from an energy storage component, such as 1k ME Energy Storage Component. The 1k component needs a Redstone Crystal. The higher components are crafted from a lower component, and the higher tiers also require a processor and a dust. The Energy Processor is one of those processors, and it is also what lets energy devices route power in an ME system.[8][12][13]
You can turn a component into a finished cell in two ways. The first is a direct craft with the component, glass, redstone dust and insulating resin.[12]

Recipe id: appflux:1k_fe_cell
Direct craft, shown here for the 1k cell. Every tier has its own version.
The second is to combine the component with an ME FE Cell Housing. Insulating Resin is the necessary material for the housing, because it stops stored energy from leaking.[9][12]
Assemble from component and housing, shown for the 1k cell.
Flux Accessor
The Flux Accessor is how you get energy in and out of the network. It pulls energy from the network, and it needs an external cable to push that energy out. The energy it handles is the FE stored in your FE cells, not the energy in AE2's Energy Cells.[5][14]
It has two modes. In fast mode it outputs energy every tick, which can cause lag if you use it heavily. In normal mode its output depends on the target's stored energy, so it won't cause lag.[5]
The accessor has no I/O limit by default, and the pack keeps that setting. flux_accessor.io_limit is 0, which means no limitation, and you can raise it to any value up to 2,147,483,647 if you want to cap the transfer rate.[5][15]
Induction Card and marking FE
The Induction Card allows AE devices to accept or send energy. If you want a device to output energy, you have to mark FE in its config slot. To do that, right-click the slot with an energy container.[14][16][17]
The pack also sets misc.enable to false. That option lets an ME Import Bus import energy like items and fluids, so it is off here. third_party_support.enable_mi is true, which enables MI-EU support.[15]
Terminals
Terminals show the stored energy as a green fluid. It isn't a real fluid, so you can't fill it with buckets. You can use an energy container, such as a battery or an electric tool, to fill energy into it or drain energy from it.[6]
How do you progress through Applied Flux?
6 parts
Applied Flux lets your ME network store FE in cells, so your power can live in the same system as your items. The ME FE Storage Cell is the main way to do it, and cell capacity is based on bytes, just like AE2 item and fluid cells. Progression is a ladder: get the materials, then climb the storage tiers one component at a time.[3][4]
The cell tiers
The cells come in 1k, 4k, 16k, 64k, 256k, 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M. By default every byte holds 1,048,576 FE, so the smallest cell stores 1,073,741,824 FE and the largest stores 281,474,976,710,656 FE.[4]
Step 1: Insulating Resin and the housing
Everything starts with Insulating Resin. It stops stored energy from leaking and is needed for the ME FE Cell Housing. The pack changed the resin recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs.[9][12]

You can also smelt or blast the resin to get Harden Insulating Resin. In the pack's quest book, resin is one of several alternative items accepted by a quest in the resource_generation chapter: "Special Fluid Cows" quest.[11][12]
Step 2: Redstone Crystals
Plain redstone is too loose to put in a cell. Combined with fluix crystal and glowstone, a redstone block is crystallized into a Redstone Crystal, which stores a lot of energy in very little space. The pack changed the Crystal Assembler version of this recipe.[12][13]

Step 3: The Energy Processor
The Energy Processor routes energy through your ME system, and every energy device needs one. In this pack it is made in a Crystal Assembler using a Printed Energy Circuit. The pack also changed how that printed circuit is made: you cut a Charged Redstone Crystal Block in the Circuit Cutter.[8][12]

The pack also changed how you get the Inscriber Energy Press: you put an iron storage block in the AE2 charger.[12]
In the quest book, the Energy Processor appears as a task in two quests of the creative chapter, a quest in "Tier 6: Ascension" and "Creative Energy Cell" quest. Each lists it alongside other items from different mods.[10]
Step 4: Climbing the cores
Each cell is built around an ME Energy Storage Component. From the 4k component upward, each one is crafted from the component of the tier below. The ladder starts at 1k ME Energy Storage Component.[12]

The 4k, 16k, 64k and 256k components are the ones whose recipes call for an Energy Processor, so you need it before you can go past the 1k tier. The 1M and larger components don't use it in their own recipes.[12]

The 4k component is the first to need an Energy Processor.
- Craft the next component from the previous one, in order: 4k ME Energy Storage Component, 16k ME Energy Storage Component, 64k ME Energy Storage Component, 256k ME Energy Storage Component, 1M ME Energy Storage Component, 4M ME Energy Storage Component, 16M ME Energy Storage Component, 64M ME Energy Storage Component, then 256M ME Energy Storage Component.[12]
- Turn the component into a cell, for example 1k ME FE Storage Cell. You can craft it directly, or combine the component with a housing.[12]
This is the housing route. Every tier has a matching _assemble recipe.
Portable versions exist for every tier too, such as 1k Portable FE Cell. They are only a quarter of the size of the normal FE cells.[7][12]
Getting power out: Flux Accessor
The Flux Accessor inputs and outputs the energy stored in your ME network. That energy is the FE in your FE cells, not the AE2 Energy Cells. Its recipe needs an Energy Processor, so it sits at the same point in the progression. The Induction Card is crafted from the Flux Accessor.[5][12]

How does Applied Flux work with other mods?
3 parts
Applied Flux builds on the AE2 ME network, so most of its recipes lean on AE2 parts. In this pack the FE cells use Quartz Glass, and the higher storage components use Engineering Processor and Vibrant Quartz Glass. The portable cells are built around an ME Chest. The 1k to 256k portable tiers use an Energy Cell, and the 1M to 256M tiers use a Dense Energy Cell.[1][12]
Where the pack touches other mods
The Energy Processor is the Applied Flux part that shows up most in other mods' recipes. The mod describes it as the part that manages energy flow in an ME system. In this pack it is made in ExtendedAE's crystal assembler, and the pack has changed that recipe.[8][12]

The Redstone Crystal comes from an Advanced AE reaction recipe, which the pack has changed. The 1k storage component needs it, and each higher component is crafted from the one before, so every FE cell tier traces back to it.[12][13]
The pack changed this Advanced AE reaction recipe.
Recipes from other mods that use Applied Flux items
The pack added recipes for two Psi machines, the CAD Assembler and the Spell Programmer, and both require an Energy Processor.[12]

Quests
- a quest in "Tier 6: Ascension" in the creative chapter has the Energy Processor as one of its tasks. The other tasks are Tempad items, a Fortron-Infused Ingot and Mekanism's Ultimate Control Circuit.[10]
- "Creative Energy Cell" quest in the same chapter also asks for an Energy Processor. The other tasks are a MEGA Cells energy cell, a certus quartz crystal, a Mekanism Ultimate Control Circuit and an Avaritia singularity item.[10]
- "Special Fluid Cows" quest in the resource generation chapter accepts Insulating Resin as one of its alternatives, alongside an ender eye, a blaze rod or stable antimatter.[11]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Applied Flux?
3 parts
Applied Flux appears in quests from the creative chapter and the resource_generation chapter. None of them has a title in the pack files, so I refer to them by their quest IDs.[10][11]
Creative chapter
Here the Energy Processor is one of the items you hand in for a quest, alongside items from other mods.[10]
- a quest in "Tier 6: Ascension" asks for Chronometer, Time Steel, Fortron-Infused Ingot, Chronon Battery, the Energy Processor and Ultimate Control Circuit. It comes after another quest in the quest book.[10]
- "Creative Energy Cell" quest asks for Superdense Energy Cell, the Energy Processor, Certus Quartz Crystal, Ultimate Control Circuit and Json Singularity. It also comes after another quest in the quest book.[10]
Both quests ask for the Energy Processor and the Mekanism Ultimate Control Circuit, so you can plan to make those together.[10]
Resource generation chapter
"Special Fluid Cows" quest is the Applied Flux quest in this chapter, and it comes after an earlier quest. Its task lists Ender Eye, Blaze Rod, Insulating Resin and Stable Antimatter as alternatives, so you can hand in whichever one you have. You don't need the Insulating Resin unless you want to use it.[11]
Order
Each of these quests sits behind a prerequisite quest, so you reach them as you progress through their chapters. The sources here do not show how the two chapters relate to each other, so I can't give a single overall order.[10][11]
Which Applied Flux config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Applied Flux keeps its settings in a single common config file, and there are only a handful of options. Here is exactly how this pack sets them.[18]
Switches the pack has turned off
- flux_accessor.enable is set to false. This option controls whether the Flux Accessor is allowed to charge your ME network with stored FE, so in this pack that behavior is switched off.[18]
- misc.enable is set to false. It controls whether the ME Import Bus can import energy the way it imports items and fluids, so this pack has that switched off too.[18]
Switch that is on
- third_party_support.enable_mi is set to true. This turns on the MI-EU support.[18]
Values that match the mod default
Two numeric options are listed in the pack file along with their mod defaults, and in both cases the pack keeps the default.[18]
- flux_cell.amount is 1,048,576, the same as the mod default. It sets how much FE is stored per byte in the flux cells.[18]
- flux_accessor.io_limit is 0, also the mod default. A value of 0 means no limitation on the Flux Accessor's I/O. If you ever change it, the accepted range is 0 to 2,147,483,647.[18]
Unverified The pack file does not show mod defaults for the three on/off options, so I can't tell you whether the pack changed them from the mod's defaults.
What changed in Applied Flux between versions?
1 part
Applied Flux is a small entry in the pack's history so far. FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Applied Flux 1.21-2.1.5-neoforge, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier.[2]
Mod releases
- 1.21-2.1.4-neoforge: the first release of Applied Flux for 1.21.1.[19]
- 1.21-2.1.5-neoforge: the version in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0. I don't have a changelog for this release, so what changed from 2.1.4 is unverified.[2]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Applied Flux were available, so any pack-specific changes to the mod between releases are unverified.
