Create is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 6.0.10. Aesthetic Technology that empowers the Player (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

Stuck? Why it might not be working

  • A factory gauge shows ? and will not link
In All the Mods 10 8.2, Create 6.0.10, a factory gauge shows ? and sends nothing while any saved link position on its frequency is not loaded. Redstone 1 to 14 does not choose which stock link is asked, and signal 15 removes the link. A recipe gauge sends again when a null inventory was stored as an empty snapshot and the next real read subtracts the whole inventory from the promise.

What is Create?

1 part

Create is all about building machines you can actually watch work. It adds tools and blocks for building, decoration and aesthetic automation. Instead of clicking through menus, you set up contraptions of animated parts that work together, and you get to decide how they're arranged.[1]

If you like designing your own setups and seeing gears turn, this mod is for you. When you're stuck on a mechanic, open Create's built-in visual guide, Ponder, which walks you through every machine and gadget.[1]

Where Create fits in this pack

Your Create journey starts in the technology chapter with Andesite Alloy in "Create" quest. Next you make Cogwheel, Large Cogwheel and Shaft, then Andesite Casing. Andesite casing opens three branches: the Mechanical Press, the Deployer, and brass with the Mechanical Crafter. The deployer branch leads to the Precision Mechanism in a quest in "General Tech".[2]

Create also matters for World Engine Tier 1. That chapter asks for Brass Casing, then Train Casing, then Shadow Steel, and finally Shadow Casing together with the Encased Chain Drive. The bounty board chapter also asks for shadow casing.[3][4]

Several other chapters use Create pieces too:[5][6][7][8][9]

Create keeps paying off right up to the endgame. In the creative chapter, the precision mechanism appears in "Creative Motor" quest, and the Creative Motor is one of the creative items gathered in "Ascension Tier 2 - Transcendent" quest. The same collection of creative items also shows up in the backrooms chapter.[10][11]

How do you get started with Create?

5 parts

The easiest way into Create in this pack is to follow the quest line in the technology chapter. It starts with one basic material, moves on to simple moving parts, then to your first casing, and from there it splits into your first real machines. Here's that path in order, and why each step matters.[2]

Step 1: Andesite Alloy

Your very first quest, "Create" quest, asks for Andesite Alloy. Create itself calls it the mod's most important resource, and almost everything in the next few steps is built from it, so make a good stack.[2][12]

You can craft it by hand right away. There's a second hand recipe that swaps one ingredient, so use whichever you have more of. Later on, a Mechanical Mixer can make it too.[13]

Step 2: Shafts and Cogwheels

Next, a quest in "General Tech" wants a Shaft, a Cogwheel and a Large Cogwheel. These are the parts that carry rotation from one block to the next. Every machine you build will run through them. If you already have a small cogwheel, you can upgrade it into a large one instead of crafting it from scratch.[2][13]

Step 3: Andesite Casing

a quest in "General Tech" asks for Andesite Casing, the basic casing for your machines. You don't make it in a crafting grid. You apply an item directly to a block in the world. This quest is the big unlock: three separate quests open up once you finish it.[2][12][13]

Step 5: Precision Mechanism

Once your Deployer quest is done, a quest in "General Tech" asks for a Precision Mechanism. It's made through sequenced assembly, and this pack has changed that recipe. Check the version shown below rather than a guide written for another pack.[2][13]

Sequenced Assembly (create)

Recipe id: create:sequenced_assembly/precision_mechanism

Changed by the pack

It's worth the effort. Precision Mechanisms go into mechanical crafting recipes like the Potato Cannon and the Wand Of Symmetry. That's another good reason to get your Mechanical Crafters going.[13]

Tip: Stuck on how a block works? Create comes with its own visual in-game documentation called Ponder, which walks you through the mod's mechanics and gadgets.[1]

Unverified The sources don't confirm how this pack expects you to produce your first Brass Ingots, so check the brass ingot recipes in your recipe viewer before planning that step. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Create work?

10 parts

Create is all about building contraptions out of animated components that work together, instead of clicking through machine menus. It gives you tools and blocks for building, decoration and what the mod calls aesthetic automation, and it leaves most of the design choices up to you.[1]

If you're ever unsure how a block behaves, check Ponder. It's Create's visual in-game documentation and walks you through its mechanics and gadgets.[1]

Watch out: In this pack, Create's world generation is turned off with worldgen.disableWorldGen, so nothing Create would normally add to the world will generate.[14]

Unverified Where this pack expects you to get the raw materials Create normally generates in the world isn't covered by the available sources. Check the pack's quests or recipe viewer. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Rotation, speed and stress

Everything in Create runs on rotational power, which the mod calls torque. You can generate it with a Water Wheel, an assembled windmill or a Steam Engine. Windmills come in different strengths, and a boiler can run at different power levels up to a maximum. For a quick bit of power, a Hand Crank works until you're exhausted.[12]

You carry rotation around with Shaft blocks, and a Mechanical Belt connects two Shafts. To change the speed of your contraption, connect a Large Cogwheel to a Small Cogwheel. For finer control, use a Rotation Speed Controller.[12]

Machines put stress on your network. Put on Engineer's Goggles and look at a Stressometer to get an exact readout, all the way up to 100%. In this pack, a tooltip also appears when you look at overstressed components, because client.enableOverstressedTooltip is enabled.[12][15]

Key materials and casings

Andesite Alloy is Create's most important resource. Apply it to stripped wood to make Andesite Casing, the basic casing for your machines.[12]

Brass Ingots are alloyed in a Blaze-heated Mechanical Mixer. Brass applied to stripped wood gives you Brass Casing for more sophisticated machines. Copper applied the same way gives you a waterproof casing.[12]

Refining Powdered Obsidian gives you Sturdy Sheets. You'll need those for the casing of railway components.[12]

Processing machines

  • Mechanical Press: makes sheets. Paired with a Basin, it compacts many items into fewer.[12]
  • Mechanical Mixer: combines ingredients. Some recipes, like Brass, need Blaze heat underneath.[12]
  • Blaze Burner: provides that heat, and a Mechanical Arm can keep it fed for you.[12]
  • Millstone: pulverises materials.[12]
  • Crushing Wheels: work as a set, and you can run them at maximum speed.[12]
  • Encased Fan: processes materials that pass through its airflow.[12]
  • Mechanical Saw: processes materials when placed upright.[12]
  • Deployer: acts like a copy of you, using items on whatever is in front of it.[12]
  • Mechanical Crafters: craft once placed and powered.[12]
  • Spout and Item Drain: the Spout fills fluid-containing items, and the Item Drain empties them.[12]

Moving items

Mechanical Belts carry items. A Funnel extracts items from a container or inserts them into one, and Funnels can also be mounted on belts. Chutes transport items too, and a Weighted Ejector can launch things, including you, more than 30 blocks.[12]

A Mechanical Arm picks items up and puts them down at locations you program. You can give a single arm 10 or more output locations.[12]

To control which items go where, you use a List Filter or an Attribute Filter. Each has a crafting recipe that takes the filter and gives it back, meant for clearing it.[13]

In this pack, items placed in a block's filter slot are displayed out to 10 blocks away, set by client.filterItemRenderDistance.[15]

List FilterMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: create:crafting/appliances/filter_clear

Clears a List Filter

A Clipboard keeps your notes. It can also copy some blocks' settings, such as filters, with a right-click and apply them elsewhere with a left-click. Sneak-click to place it on a surface.[12]

Fluids

Fluid Pipes and Mechanical Pumps move fluids around. The pulling end of a pipe or pump can collect water, and pipes can pull honey from a Bee Nest or Beehive. A Hose Pulley lowers into a body of fluid and either drains it or fills it. A Fluid Tank stores fluids, and you can attach Steam Whistles to one.[12]

Whether a fluid can be drained infinitely is set by fluids.bottomlessFluidMode. This pack uses ALLOW_BY_TAG, so only fluids in the matching tag count as bottomless. That's also how you can pump from a body of lava large enough to be considered infinite.[12][16]

Unverified Exactly which fluids are in the bottomless tag in this pack isn't shown in the sources.

Contraptions

Super Glue groups blocks together so they can move as one structure. A Clockwork Bearing is one way to mount and move a structure like that.[12]

You can put drills, saws or harvesters on a contraption to make it work as it moves. A Portable Storage Interface takes items from a moving contraption or inserts items into it.[12]

Minecart Contraptions can be picked up even with 200 or more blocks attached. A Rope Pulley can extend more than 200 blocks deep.[12]

Packages and logistics

A Packager packages items from an inventory into Cardboard packages. A Frogport catches those packages from a Chain Conveyor, and Factory Gauges can trigger package requests automatically.[12]

At a Stock Ticker, you employ a mob and make requests. You can also put items up for sale with a Table Cloth.[12]

In this pack, client.recipeViewerIntegration.syncRecipeViewerSearch is set to SYNC_BOTH. That controls how your recipe viewer search interacts with Stock Keepers.[15]

Trains

Once you have Train Tracks, you can assemble a train and give its driver a Train Schedule. Train Signals and Display Links help you run and monitor your network.[12]

In this pack, track networks and trains show up on supported map mods, because client.trains.showTrainMapOverlay is enabled.[15]

Conversion recipes changed by the pack

This pack changes several shapeless conversion recipes that turn blocks from the Create Connected add-on back into their standard Create versions. They convert Linked Transmitter to Redstone Link, Item Silo to Item Vault, Fluid Vessel to Fluid Tank, Inverted Clutch to Clutch and Inverted Gearshift to Gearshift. Air pressure and the Copper Backtank

A Copper Backtank accumulates air pressure. In this pack, a full tank holds 900 air, which equals 900 seconds of underwater breathing. Each level of the Capacity enchantment adds 300 more.[12][16]

The same air powers your tools. One filled backtank gives you 1,000 free Extendo Grip actions or 200 free Potato Cannon shots. All of these values match the mod defaults.[16]

How do you progress through Create?

6 parts

Create in this pack follows a clear ladder in the quest book. You start with andesite gear in the technology chapter, move on to brass, and then push into the World Engine chapter for train and shadow casings. The very end connects Create to the pack's creative-tier goals. Here's how each step is laid out and which in-pack recipes get you there.[2][3][10]

Tier 1: Andesite

Everything starts with Andesite Alloy, the first Create task in the technology chapter at "Create" quest. You can hand-craft it early on. Once you have a mixer running, you can also make it by mixing, and there are versions that use either iron or zinc nuggets.[2][13]

Endgame: Create in the creative tier

Create shows up again at the very top of the pack. "Creative Motor" quest in the creative chapter asks for a precision mechanism alongside items from other mods. The big creative-items quests, "Ascension Tier 2 - Transcendent" quest and a quest in "Backstage", include the Creative Motor. "God of the World" quest asks for the Potato Cannon, Extendo Grip and Wand Of Symmetry next to a stack of singularities.[10][11]

How does Create work with other mods?

6 parts

Create is one of the most connected mods in this pack. Lots of add-ons build on its parts, and the pack has rewired several recipes so Create machines feed materials into other mods. Here's what you'll run into.[13]

Ore processing and materials

The pack changed Create's crushing and washing so the nuggets you get are the pack's shared materials, like Zinc Nugget, Copper Nugget and Uranium Nugget. Crushing Asurine and Veridium stone also gives these nuggets alongside the crushed ore.[13]

The Experience Hatch is made by item application, using a recipe the pack added. The Blaze Enchanter, Blaze Forger and Blaze Composer are smithing upgrades that use the Smithing Template. The pack changed the Blaze Composer's recipe, as well as the recipes for the Brass Bookshelf, Ender Woven Bag and Affix Augmentor. Some of these pull in items from Apothic Enchanting, such as the Pearlescent Endshelf and Ender Lead.[13]

Quests that mix mods

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Create?

4 parts

Create shows up in quite a few quest chapters in this pack. The biggest chains are in the technology chapter and the World Engine tier 1 chapter, and Create items also appear in the endgame creative chapter. Several smaller chapters have standalone Create quests you can pick up along the way.[2][3][10]

Technology: your Create starter path

This chapter has a clear chain of Create quests. Here's the order they unlock in.[2]

  1. "Create" quest asks for Andesite Alloy.[2]
  2. a quest in "General Tech" comes next and wants a Cogwheel, a Large Cogwheel and a Shaft.[2]
  3. a quest in "General Tech" asks for Andesite Casing. Completing it opens up three branches.[2]
  4. a quest in "General Tech" asks for a Mechanical Press plus a Gold Plate.[2]
  5. a quest in "General Tech" asks for a Deployer. It leads into a quest in "General Tech", which wants a Precision Mechanism.[2]
  6. "Mechanical Crafter" quest asks for a Brass Ingot and a Mechanical Crafter.[2]

World Engine tier 1: brass, trains and shadow steel

The World Engine tier 1 chapter takes Create further. Its first Create quest has prerequisites outside this chain, so you may need progress elsewhere before it unlocks.[3]

  1. "Basic Casings" quest asks for a Brass Ingot and Brass Casing.[3]
  2. "Train Casing" quest follows and wants Train Casing.[3]
  3. "Remnants of The Past" quest comes after that. It has a structure task and asks for Shadow Steel.[3]
  4. "Shadow Casings & Stress" quest finishes the chain with Shadow Casing and an Encased Chain Drive. "Auto-Build The Shadow Casing Upgrade" quest asks for the same two items but has a different prerequisite.[3]
Tip: Keep some extra Shadow Casing around. "Shadow Casing Trade" quest in the bounty board chapter asks for it again, and it unlocks after "Shadow Casings & Stress" quest.[4]

Endgame: the creative chapter

In the creative chapter, "Creative Motor" quest asks for a Precision Mechanism alongside an Electric Motor and an Redstone Singularity. It is one of many prerequisites for "Ascension Tier 2 - Transcendent" quest, a big collection quest that includes the Creative Motor among creative items from lots of other mods. The backrooms chapter has a quest with the same task list, a quest in "Backstage". Separately, "God of the World" quest wants a Potato Cannon, an Extendo Grip and a Wand Of Symmetry, plus a long list of singularities.[10][11]

Side quests in other chapters

Which Create config options matter?

6 parts

Good news first: every numeric Create setting in this pack that lists a mod default is left at that default. Belts, ranges, train speeds and tank sizes all behave the same as in standalone Create. The settings below are the ones most likely to affect your builds, along with the exact values this pack uses.[15][16]

World generation

This pack sets worldgen.disableWorldGen to true, which stops all of Create's worldgen from taking effect. Don't expect Create's own ores or other generated features to show up in your world, so plan to get those materials some other way.[14]

Stress and rotation

The stress mechanic is fully on, because kinetics.disableStress is false. The speed cap from kinetics.maxRotationSpeed is 256 RPM, the same as the mod default.[16]

  • Stress capacity per source in this pack: hand crank 8, water wheel 32, large water wheel 128, windmill bearing 512, steam engine 1,024 and creative motor 16,384.[16]
  • Hungriest machines: the crushing wheel and mechanical press each have a stress impact of 8. Drills, saws, mixers, millstones, deployers, pistons and bearings each have an impact of 4.[16]
  • Lighter loads: the encased fan, mechanical arm, mechanical crafter and weighted ejector each have an impact of 2. Shafts, cogwheels, gearboxes, belts and clutches have an impact of 0.[16]
  • Windmills need at least 8 sail-type blocks to assemble, and every 8 sail blocks add 1 RPM, using kinetics.minimumWindmillSails and kinetics.windmillSailsPerRPM.[16]

Automation limits

  • Belts can be up to 20 blocks long, and a Mechanical Arm can reach 5 blocks.[16]
  • Redstone links reach up to 256 blocks, and display links reach up to 64 blocks.[16]
  • Vaults hold 20 stacks per block. Fluid tanks hold 8 buckets per block and can be up to 32 blocks tall.[16]
  • Contraptions can move up to 2,048 blocks, and harvesters replant crops but leave partially grown ones alone.[16]
  • Spawners and Budding Amethyst are set to NO_PICKUP for contraptions, while Obsidian and Reinforced Deepslate are set to UNMOVABLE.[16]

Recipe behaviour

Your Create machines can handle plenty of ordinary recipes in this pack. Mixers can do shapeless crafting and potion brewing, presses can do single-ingredient 2x2 or 3x3 crafting, saws can do stonecutting, and Mechanical Crafters can handle any standard crafting recipe. However, recipes.bulkPressing and recipes.bulkCutting are both false, so presses and saws won't chew through whole stacks at once.[16]

Tip: Hose pulleys treat a body of fluid as an infinite source once they find at least 10,000 fluid blocks. Which fluids qualify is controlled by fluids.bottomlessFluidMode, which this pack sets to ALLOW_BY_TAG.[16]

Trains

Trains have a top speed of 28 blocks per second, or 40 blocks per second for powered trains. Manually driven trains run at 0.75 times the speed of scheduled ones. Moving trains can hurt mobs and players they collide with, so watch where you stand.[16]

Client options you can tweak

Client settings only change what you see and hear, so you can adjust them freely. Ambient machine sounds are on, with the volume cap set by client.sound.ambientVolumeCap. The goggle overlay position can be shifted with client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetX, or with the /create overlay command. Track networks show on supported map mods through client.trains.showTrainMapOverlay.[15]

What changed in Create between versions?

In FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 you're running Create version 6.0.10, shipped as the file create-1.21.1-6.0.10.jar. It's been part of the pack since version 1.21.0 or earlier, so it has been available to you from the start of this release line.[17]

Unverified There are no pack changelog entries or stored mod changelogs for Create in this pack yet, so any changes, tweaks or recipe adjustments made across pack releases can't be listed here. Check back once changelog information is available.
