What is Psi?
1 part
Psi is a magical-tech mod about programming your own spells. You build action sequences that run in the world, and the mod uses basic maths like vectors, so a single spell can do a lot. It encourages creativity and problem solving, which makes it a good fit if you like to tinker. The pack includes Psi 1.21.1-110 for NeoForge.[1][2]
Psi has a leveling system with in-game documentation and tutorials for the pieces you unlock. The in-game guide has tutorial entries called Writing A Spell, Casting A Spell, Types & Numbers, Move It, Limits and EXPLOSION!!. Spells can also be shared and copied to and from outside sources with the in-game sharing tools.[1][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack's general_magic quest chapter walks you through Psi in a clear order. Each step is gated behind the one before it, so you can follow it from your first casting device to the late-game gear.[9]
- Start with CAD Assembler and an iron or gold CAD assembly in "Psi" quest, then bring redstone and Psidust for "Your First Psi Material" quest.[9]
- That unlocks the basic parts. These are a colorizer in "A World of Color" quest, a Basic CAD Battery in "Tier 1 CAD Battery" quest, a Basic CAD Core in "Tier 1 CAD Core" quest and a Basic CAD Socket in "Tier 1 CAD Socket" quest. You also get the Spell Programmer and a Spell Bullet in "The Fun starts now!" quest.[9]
- Next comes Psimetal Ingot, made with a gold ingot in "Your First Spell" quest. It opens the upgrades: overclocked or conductive cores, signaling or large sockets, an extended battery and a Psimetal CAD Assembly.[9]
- The last tier starts with a diamond and a Psigem in "Psi Gems" quest. It leads to the ultradense battery, hyperclocked or radiative cores, transmissive or huge sockets, ebony and ivory assemblies, Psimetal tools and the Psimetal Exosuit.[9]
How do you get started with Psi?
6 parts
Psi is a spell programming mod: you build action sequences, called spells, and run them in the world. In this pack the general_magic quest chapter gives you a clear order to follow. It starts at the CAD Assembler and works up through Psimetal to Psigem gear.[1][9]
Start with the CAD Assembler
Your first stop is the CAD Assembler. The pack added this recipe itself, so don't expect the mod's default. The opening quest "Psi" quest asks for it, together with either an Iron CAD Assembly or an Gold CAD Assembly.[9][10]

Make an Iron CAD Assembly
The Iron CAD Assembly is one of the two items the opening quest accepts, so it is the natural next craft. The Gold version also counts for that quest.[9][11]
Get your first Psidust
Next comes Psidust. The follow-up quest "Your First Psi Material" quest asks you to hold redstone and Psidust, and it unlocks the whole set of basic parts. The game also has an advancement for crafting your first piece of Psidust.[9][11]
Build the basic parts
Once the Psidust quest is done, several quests open at the same time, so you can take them in any order.[9]
- Basic CAD Core for "Tier 1 CAD Core" quest.[9]
- Basic CAD Socket for "Tier 1 CAD Socket" quest.[9]
- Basic CAD Battery for "Tier 1 CAD Battery" quest.[9]
- Any CAD Colorizer for "A World of Color" quest. The quest accepts every colour, plus the Psi CAD Colorizer and Drained CAD Colorizer variants.[9][10]
- Spell Programmer and Spell Bullet together for "The Fun starts now!" quest.[9]

Move on to Psimetal
After the Programmer and Spell Bullet quest, the chapter moves on to gold and Psimetal Ingot ("Your First Spell" quest). The game has an advancement for infusing your first piece of Psimetal.[9][11]
Psimetal opens four quests: stronger cores ("Tier 2 CAD Cores" quest), the Signaling or Large socket ("Tier 2 CAD Sockets" quest), the Extended CAD Battery ("Tier 2 CAD Battery" quest) and the Psimetal CAD Assembly ("A Much Better CAD Assembly" quest). You can craft the Psimetal assembly directly, or use an upgrade recipe that combines your Gold and Iron assemblies into one.[9][10]

Psigem and what it unlocks
With a Psimetal CAD Assembly you can infuse a diamond into a Psigem ("Psi Gems" quest). That quest is the gateway to the rest of the chapter: the Ultradense battery, the Hyperclocked and Radiative cores, the Psimetal exosuit pieces and tools, the Transmissive and Huge sockets, and the Ebony and Ivory assemblies.[9][10][11]
How does Psi work?
4 parts
Psi is a spell-programming mod, not a machine mod. The sources here describe no multiblocks, fluids, item pipes or automation for it, so this section sticks to what they do confirm.[1]
The core idea: spells as action sequences
At its heart, Psi lets you build action sequences, called spells, that are executed in the world. The mod uses basic mathematical concepts such as vectors, which gives spells a lot of flexibility. You can also share and copy spells to and from outside sources with in-game sharing tools. The mod requires Patchouli.[1]
Spells are built from pieces, and some pieces read the state of the caster. One selector reads the caster's Psi energy level, another reads the caster's CAD battery level, and another reads the CAD's internal time in ticks. A separate selector reads a saved vector from CAD Memory.[11]
The vector raycast operators have a maximum range of 32.[11]
CAD components
The pack has crafting recipes for the parts of a CAD. The assemblies are Iron CAD Assembly, Gold CAD Assembly, Psimetal CAD Assembly, Ebony Psimetal CAD Assembly and Ivory Psimetal CAD Assembly. There are also cores, batteries and colorizers. Here are a few of them, so you can see exactly how they are made in this pack.[10]

The other cores are Conductive CAD Core, Overclocked CAD Core, Radiative CAD Core and Hyperclocked CAD Core. The other batteries are Extended CAD Battery and Ultradense CAD Battery. Colorizers come in a range of dye colours, plus a drained, a Psi and a full-spectrum version.[10]
Config options that affect how Psi works
- common.cadHarvestLevel is the harvest level a CAD has for block-breaking spells. In this pack it is 3 (diamond level), which is also the mod default.[12]
- common.spellCacheSize is how many compiled spells are kept in a cache. It is set to 200 here, which is the mod default, and the config advises leaving it alone unless you know what you're doing.[12]
- common.magiPsiClientSide is false in this pack. Setting it to true would disable all server-side features of Magical Psi so it works as a purely client-side mod.[12]
Client settings
- client.pauseGameInProgrammer is true, so the Spell Programmer screen pauses the game in singleplayer.[13]
- client.psiBarOnRight is true, so the Psi Bar is drawn on the right of the screen.[13]
- client.contextSensitiveBar is true, so the Psi Bar is hidden when it's full and you're holding an item that uses Psi.[13]
- client.changeGridCoordinatesToLetterNumber is false, so the Programmer shows grid coordinates as a pair of numbers instead of a letter and a number.[13]
How do you progress through Psi?
4 parts
Psi progression in this pack runs through one quest chapter, general_magic. It is a clean ladder: you start with iron or gold CAD tech, move to Psimetal, then unlock Psigem and everything that hangs off it. The quests have no titles, so I point to them by ID and describe what each one asks for.[9]
Getting started: CAD Assembler and Psidust
The first quest, "Psi" quest, wants a CAD Assembler plus either an Iron CAD Assembly or an Gold CAD Assembly. It has a prerequisite quest that is not one of the Psi quests. The CAD Assembler recipe is added by the pack, so do not expect the mod's own recipe.[9][10]

Next is "Your First Psi Material" quest, which asks for redstone and Psidust. This is the hub of the early game, because five quests unlock from it.[9]
- "A World of Color" quest: any CAD colorizer, such as the Psi CAD Colorizer or the Drained CAD Colorizer.[9]
- "Tier 1 CAD Battery" quest: the Basic CAD Battery.[9]
- "Tier 1 CAD Core" quest: the Basic CAD Core.[9]
- "Tier 1 CAD Socket" quest: the Basic CAD Socket.[9]
- "The Fun starts now!" quest: the Spell Programmer and a Spell Bullet. This is the one that leads onward to Psimetal.[9]
The Spell Programmer is also a pack-added recipe.[10]

Psimetal
"Your First Spell" quest asks for a gold ingot and a Psimetal Ingot. It unlocks after the Programmer quest.[9]
Psimetal opens four branches.[9]
- "Tier 2 CAD Cores" quest: the Overclocked CAD Core or the Conductive CAD Core.[9]
- "Tier 2 CAD Sockets" quest: the Signaling CAD Socket or the Large CAD Socket.[9]
- "Tier 2 CAD Battery" quest: the Extended CAD Battery.[9]
- "A Much Better CAD Assembly" quest: the Psimetal CAD Assembly. This is the gate to the next stage.[9]

Psigem
"Psi Gems" quest asks for a diamond and a Psigem, and it unlocks after the Psimetal CAD Assembly quest.[9]
Psigem is the biggest fork in the chapter. Six quests open from it.[9]
- "Tier 3 CAD Battery" quest: the Ultradense CAD Battery.[9]
- "Tier 3 CAD Cores" quest: the Hyperclocked CAD Core or the Radiative CAD Core.[9]
- "Psionic Armor!" quest: any piece of the Psimetal Exosuit, such as the Psimetal Exosuit Helmet.[9]
- "Psionic Tools!" quest: any Psimetal tool, such as the Psimetal Pickaxe.[9]
- "Tier 3 CAD Sockets" quest: the Transmissive CAD Socket or the Huge CAD Socket.[9]
- "The Best CADs Accessible in Survival" quest: an Ebony Substance or Ivory Substance, plus an Ebony Psimetal CAD Assembly or Ivory Psimetal CAD Assembly.[9]

How does Psi work with other mods?
3 parts
Psi's links to the rest of the pack come from crafting recipes the pack added with KubeJS. They gate the machines you need to start programming spells, so you'll want other mods' materials before you cast anything.[10]
CAD Assembler
The CAD Assembler is where you build your CAD, and its pack recipe is where Psi meets other mods: it uses an Energy Processor from Applied Flux and Dark Immortal Stone from XyCraft World. The exact recipe is shown below, and the rest of it accepts any item with the matching ingot or plate tag.[10]

How the quests fit in
The general_magic quest chapter walks you through Psi in order. It starts with a quest asking for the CAD Assembler plus an Iron or Gold CAD Assembly, which is "Psi" quest. The Spell Programmer and a Spell Bullet come in "The Fun starts now!" quest. Since both machines need other mods' materials, you'll be gathering those before you can finish these quests.[9][10]
The rest of the chapter only asks for Psi items plus vanilla ones: Redstone, a Gold Ingot and a Diamond. Nothing else in these quests requires another mod's items.[9]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Psi?
4 parts
All the Psi quests the sources show sit in a single chapter, general_magic. They ask you to hand in items, and the quests have no titles in the pack files, so they are identified by ID below. They form a branching tree, so you don't have to follow one straight line.[9]
Getting started
- "Psi" quest asks for the CAD Assembler plus either the Iron CAD Assembly or the Gold CAD Assembly. It unlocks after a quest that is not part of this Psi list.[9]
- "Your First Psi Material" quest asks for Redstone and Psidust. It opens up the first branch of basic CAD parts.[9]
First branch: basic CAD parts
Once the Psidust quest is done, these quests all open at the same time, so you can take them in any order.[9]
- "A World of Color" quest accepts any CAD colorizer: one of the dyed colors, the Psi CAD Colorizer or the Drained CAD Colorizer.[9]
- "Tier 1 CAD Battery" quest asks for the Basic CAD Battery.[9]
- "Tier 1 CAD Core" quest asks for the Basic CAD Core.[9]
- "Tier 1 CAD Socket" quest asks for the Basic CAD Socket.[9]
- "The Fun starts now!" quest asks for the Spell Programmer and a Spell Bullet. This is the one that leads onward.[9]
Psimetal tier
"Your First Spell" quest follows the Spell Programmer quest and asks for a Gold Ingot and a Psimetal Ingot. It unlocks the next set of quests.[9]
- "Tier 2 CAD Cores" quest wants either the Overclocked CAD Core or the Conductive CAD Core.[9]
- "Tier 2 CAD Sockets" quest wants either the Signaling CAD Socket or the Large CAD Socket.[9]
- "Tier 2 CAD Battery" quest asks for the Extended CAD Battery.[9]
- "A Much Better CAD Assembly" quest asks for the Psimetal CAD Assembly. This one continues the chain.[9]
Endgame Psi quests
"Psi Gems" quest comes after the Psimetal CAD Assembly quest and asks for a Diamond and a Psigem. It opens the final group of quests below.[9]
- "Tier 3 CAD Battery" quest asks for the Ultradense CAD Battery.[9]
- "Tier 3 CAD Cores" quest wants either the Hyperclocked CAD Core or the Radiative CAD Core.[9]
- "Psionic Armor!" quest wants any Psimetal Exosuit piece: the Psimetal Exosuit Helmet, Psimetal Exosuit Chestplate, Psimetal Exosuit Leggings or Psimetal Exosuit Boots.[9]
- "The Best CADs Accessible in Survival" quest wants either the Ebony Substance or the Ivory Substance, plus either the Ivory Psimetal CAD Assembly or the Ebony Psimetal CAD Assembly.[9]
- "Psionic Tools!" quest wants any Psimetal tool: the Psimetal Sword, Psimetal Pickaxe, Psimetal Axe or Psimetal Shovel.[9]
- "Tier 3 CAD Sockets" quest wants either the Transmissive CAD Socket or the Huge CAD Socket.[9]
Which Psi config options matter?
2 parts
Psi has two config files in this pack, one for common settings and one for client-side display. The good news is that nothing here looks heavily tweaked. The sources list the two numeric common options as matching the mod default, so you can treat them as stock Psi.[12][13]
Common settings (psi-common.toml)
- common.cadHarvestLevel is set to 3, the same as the mod default. It controls the harvest level of a CAD for block-breaking spells, and 3 is diamond level. The allowed range is 0 to 255.[12]
- common.spellCacheSize is set to 200, also the mod default. It sets how many compiled spells are kept in a cache. The config's own note says to leave it alone unless you know what you're doing.[12]
- common.magiPsiClientSide is false. Setting it to true would disable all server-side features so Psi works purely as a client-side mod. With it false, Psi's normal server-side features stay on.[12]
Client settings (psi-client.toml)
These only change how Psi looks and behaves on your own screen. The sources don't say what the mod defaults are for these options, so I can only tell you what the pack sets.[13]
- client.psiBarOnRight is true, so the Psi Bar is drawn on the right side of the screen.[13]
- client.contextSensitiveBar is true. The Psi Bar is hidden when it's full and you're holding an item that uses Psi.[13]
- client.pauseGameInProgrammer is true, so the Spell Programmer screen pauses the game in singleplayer.[13]
- client.changeGridCoordinatesToLetterNumber is false. The Programmer shows grid coordinates as a pair of numbers rather than a letter and a number.[13]
