Apothic Enchanting in FTB StoneBlock 4
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0 ships version 1.6.4 · First seen in 1.0.0
Apothic Enchanting is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 1.6.4. A huge extension of the Enchanting system (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)
Stuck? Why it might not be working
- Apothic Enchanting: eterna stops short, and every slot says Limited EnchantabilityTwo separate things cap eterna in All the Mods 10 8.2: your World Tier sets a personal Max Eterna, and each enchanting shelf has its own eterna ceiling, so a wall of one shelf type stalls below 100 whatever your tier. "Limited Enchantability" is a different problem: it means the table had no enchantment to offer that slot, and it is not about the item's enchantability number.Written for other versions than FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0 ships. Some steps may no longer match.
- Why arcana is not going upIn All the Mods 10 8.2, Apothic Enchanting 1.6.2, arcana has no ceiling of its own. A wall of vanilla bookshelves gives exactly 0. The item in the slot does not add any: that line was removed in 1.6.1, and this pack ships 1.6.2. A Brass Bookshelf config of 0.25 is a maximum of 25 on the 0 to 100 scale, not a multiplier. Arcana changes which enchantments you roll and how many are guaranteed. It does not raise the level.Written for other versions than FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0 ships. Some steps may no longer match.

What is Apothic Enchanting?
1 part
This pack includes Apothic Enchanting 1.6.4. It builds on the enchanting overhaul from Apotheosis, adding the shelves, tomes and libraries you use to push your enchanting table higher and higher.[1][2]
Apotheosis gives the enchanting table three values. Eterna sets the maximum enchant level, Quanta controls how random the enchants are, and Arcana controls their rarity and how many get applied. Apothic Enchanting supplies the tiers of bookshelves that raise those values, such as the Hellshelf and Seashelf, plus tomes for scrapping and extracting enchantments, the Enchantment Library for storing them, and the Enchanting Table of the Raven for setting the values by hand.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The mod lives in the "Gearing Up" chapter, in the "Forgotten Knowledge" group. It is chapter 12 of 22 in the book. The chapter has 107 quests and also covers armor, weapons and tools from other mods, so the enchanting line is only one part of it.[2]
The enchanting line runs in this order:[2]
- It starts at the a quest in "Gearing Up" quest, which explains Eterna, Quanta and Arcana.[2]
- Four quests come straight after it: a quest in "Gearing Up", "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest, a quest in "Gearing Up" and a quest in "Gearing Up" (the tomes).[2]
- "Upgraded Shelves" quest needs the enchanting table quest and the "Meet The Enchanter" quest. It aims for 45 Eterna at the Frontier World Tier.[2]
- "Infused Shelves" quest follows, with a maximum of 60 Eterna.[2]
- Three quests branch off Infused Shelves: a quest in "Gearing Up", a quest in "Gearing Up" and a quest in "Gearing Up".[2]
- "Shelves of the Deep" quest comes after the Blazing Hellshelf quest, with a maximum of 75 Eterna at the Summit World Tier.[2]
- "Achieving Enlightenment" quest unlocks the final shelf tier through Infused Dragon's Breath. Then comes "Endshelf" quest and "Level 100 Enchanting" quest, which can reach a maximum of 100 Eterna.[2]
- The line ends with two quests that both follow Level 100 Enchanting: "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest and "Library of Alexandria" quest.[2]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book to see how the pack connects it to that path.
How do you get started with Apothic Enchanting?
5 parts
Enchanting in this pack runs through Apothic Enchanting, working together with Apotheosis. The pack's quest book walks you through it in the chapter "Gearing Up" (group "Forgotten Knowledge", chapter 12 of 22). The enchanting quests there all hang off the a quest in "Gearing Up" quest, so that is the place to start.[2]
First, learn the three stats
Before you build anything, know what you are building towards. The first enchanting quest explains three values. Eterna is the power of the table, capped by the tier of your bookshelves and your World Tier, and it sets the maximum enchant level. Quanta is the randomness of the enchants. Arcana sets the rarity of the enchants and how many are applied per use.[2]
Out of the box, an enchanting table only looks for bookshelves in a 5x5x3 area around it. The "Bookshelf Extended Enchantment Reach" quest quest covers how to change that range by holding a modifier block and Sneak + Right-clicking the table.[2]
The Apothic Enchanting Table (optional)
The Apothic Enchanting Table is a cosmetic variant of the Enchanting Table, so you do not need it to progress. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's default.[3][4]

Build your first upgraded shelves
The "Upgraded Shelves" quest quest sets your next goal: reach 45 Eterna by getting to the Frontier World Tier, using upgraded shelves. The Hellshelf is the easier one to craft and boosts Quanta.[2]

The Seashelf builds up Arcana instead, and the quest says it needs some fishing to get started. The same quest also lists Spirit Attuned Crystals from Occultism as a good way to hit the 45 mark.[2]

Tame the randomness
At max chaos, Quanta can swing your enchant power by +100% or -100%. The Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability cancels the negative side, so you keep the upside and lose the downside.[2]

The "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest quest covers the Beeshelf, Melonshelf and Stoneshelf. They give special bonuses, such as adding 100% Quanta or removing Quanta and Arcana.[2]
Infuse your shelves
Once you hit 45 Eterna, you can infuse shelves. The "Infused Shelves" quest quest says an Infused Hellshelf needs at least 30 Quanta, and an Infused Seashelf needs 15 Quanta and 10 Arcana. Infused shelves let you reach a max of 60 Eterna for the next upgrade.[2]

After infused shelves, the quest book continues with the 60 Eterna goal in the a quest in "Gearing Up" quest and then the Deepshelves. Some quests in this chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[2]
How does Apothic Enchanting work?
6 parts
Apothic Enchanting has no machines, power or fluid pipes of its own. The mod is all about enchanting stations, bookshelves that feed them, and a special crafting step called Infusion Enchanting. This page covers what the pack's sources confirm. How much each shelf adds to your enchanting stats is not shown in the sources I have, so I won't guess at it.[3][4]
Enchanting tables
The Apothic Enchanting Table is described by the mod as a cosmetic variant of the Enchanting Table. The pack changed its crafting recipe.[3][4]

The Enchanting Table of the Raven is the one you want for control. The mod says it allows manually customizing the core enchanting stats. In this pack it is made from the Apothic Enchanting Table, so you build the cosmetic table first. The recipe is also changed by the pack.[3][4]

The three stats
Enchanting here revolves around Eterna, Arcana and Quanta. The mod's advancements show how they behave. Arcana and Quanta are tracked as percentages, with goals at 0%, 50% and 100%. There is also a goal for enchanting with at least 10 of each stat, and one for having all stats at maximum.[4]
Two advancements hint at how the stats interact. One asks for max Eterna and max Arcana with 0% Quanta. Another asks for max stats together with Quantic Stability. The mod also has a limit on how much Eterna you can use in an Enchanting Table.[4]
The enchant level goals go up to level 100, with steps at 30, 60 and 80.[4]
Shelves and Infusion Enchanting
The mod has many shelf blocks, such as the Basic Bookshelf, Beeshelf, Deepshelf, Endshelf and Hellshelf of Sight. The loot tables I can see for these shelves just drop the block itself, with no extra conditions beyond surviving an explosion.[4][5][6][7][8][9]
The upgrade chains the sources confirm are below.[3][4]
- Dormant Deepshelf to Deepshelf by Infusion. The mod even has an advancement for activating a Dormant Deepshelf.[3][4]
- Infused Hellshelf is obtained through Infusion Enchanting, then upgraded by crafting into a Blazing Hellshelf.[3][4]
- Endshelf is upgraded by crafting into a Draconic Endshelf.[3][4]
- Hellshelf of Sight is upgraded into the Hellshelf of Masterful Sight. The pack changed this recipe.[3][4]
- Infused Seashelf is also obtained through Infusion Enchanting, and it can be upgraded too.[4][10]
- A Sculkshelf is created using a Warden Tendril.[4]

How do you progress through Apothic Enchanting?
9 parts
The pack's quest book lays out the enchanting line in the chapter "Gearing Up" ("Gearing Up For Adventure!" quest), which sits in the Forgotten Knowledge group as chapter 12 of 22. The line runs from the vanilla enchanting table to Level 100 Enchanting, and the quests point you at Apothic Enchanting shelves for each step.[2]
The three stats and World Tiers
The quest on the vanilla table (a quest in "Gearing Up") describes three values from Apotheosis. Eterna is the power of the table, capped by the tier of your bookshelves and your World Tier, and the quest says it determines the maximum level of enchants. Quanta is described as the randomness of enchants. Arcana is described as the rarity of enchants and how many are applied per use.[2]
The quest "Apothic World Tiers" quest says you start at Haven when you acquire your first Affix Item. It also says higher tiers increase mob stats and rewards across all dimensions and reduce your max Eterna cap. The shelf quests below name the World Tier they want you to reach for each step: Frontier, Ascent and Summit.[2]
Early setup
Several quests follow on from the enchanting table quest. They cover extras that the quest book suggests for tuning your setup.[2]
- Enchantment Library (a quest in "Gearing Up"): the quest describes it as storage for enchantments that can create books of higher level enchants from enough low level ones. It marks the item as a Shop Only Item.[2]
- Miscellaneous Shelves ("Miscellaneous Shelves" quest) asks for the Beeshelf, Melonshelf and Stoneshelf. The quest says they give bonuses like adding 100% Quanta, or removing Quanta and Arcana.[2]
- Skulls (a quest in "Gearing Up"): the quest suggests them when you need extra Quanta to hit infusion levels, and says each gives a +5 boost to Quanta.[2]
- The Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability (a quest in "Gearing Up"): the quest says stabilization cancels out the negative side of Quanta chaos, so you keep the upside.[2]
- Tomes (a quest in "Gearing Up"): the quest says the Tome of Scrapping breaks gear down so you can extract some of its enchantments, and the Tome of Extraction removes all enchants while keeping the item from being destroyed.[2]

Stage 1: Hellshelves and Seashelves
The quest "Upgraded Shelves" quest sets a goal of 45 Eterna by reaching the Frontier World Tier. It says the Hellshelf is easier to craft and focuses on boosting Quanta, while the Seashelf needs some fishing to get started and builds Arcana instead. It also says Spirit Attuned Crystals from Occultism work great for hitting 45.[2]

The Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration (a quest in "Gearing Up") is described as holding up to six enchanted books and blocking those enchantments from showing up again, cursed ones included. The Hellshelf of Sight (a quest in "Gearing Up") is described as giving Enchanting Clues, which show more text on the table before you click.[2]

Stage 4: Shelves of the Deep
The quest "Shelves of the Deep" quest says that to push Eterna higher you need to create and infuse Deepshelves and reach the Summit World Tier, and that these shelves can push your Eterna to a max of 75. Its second task accepts the Soul-Touched Deepshelf, Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures, Echoing Sculkshelf or Echoing Deepshelf. The quest says the Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures lets your enchanting table enchant Treasure Enchantments, and notes that Deepshelves can be used for a World Engine Upgrade.[2]

The quest "Achieving Enlightenment" quest says the final tier of bookshelves is locked behind the infusion of Dragon's Breath, and asks you to obtain Infused Dragon's Breath. It lists 80 Eterna, between 15 and 30 Quanta, and at least 60 Arcana as the requirements, and suggests candles for a small Arcana boost. It also notes that Dragon's Breath can be obtained from the Chicken Jockey fight.[2]

The Enchanting Table of the Raven ("Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest) is described as letting you manually configure your Eterna, Quanta and Arcana values without nearby bookshelves. The Library of Alexandria ("Library of Alexandria" quest) is described as an upgraded Enchantment Library that can store enchantment values up to level 31, with the actual enchanted books still capped at normal pack limits.[2]

How does Apothic Enchanting work with other mods?
4 parts
Apothic Enchanting items turn up in recipes from several other mods in this pack, and the quest book sends you to one more mod for shelf power. The most useful thing to remember is that Infused Dragon's Breath is the key link between this mod and the rest of the pack.[2][3]
Apotheosis and Gateways To Eternity
Apotheosis recipes lean on Apothic Enchanting items. The pack changed the recipe for the Gate Pearl from Gateways To Eternity, and it uses both Infused Dragon's Breath and Warden Tendril.[3]

Going the other way, the Enchanting Table of the Raven is crafted from an Apothic Enchanting Table plus an Apotheosis God-Fused Pearl. The quest book covers it in the Enchanting Table of the Raven quest, which asks for both the pearl and the table and comes after Level 100 Enchanting. It says this table lets you set your Eterna, Quanta and Arcana by hand, with no bookshelves nearby.[2][3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Apothic Enchanting?
3 parts
The pack's quest book touches Apothic Enchanting in three chapters. Two are in the Echoes of History group, and the third is in the Forgotten Knowledge group. In book order they are Tier 2: Horizon (chapter 5 of 22), Tier 6: Ascension (chapter 9 of 22) and Gearing Up (chapter 12 of 22).[2][11][12]
Tier 2: Horizon, the World Engine enchanting upgrade
In this chapter the shelves are part of the main story. The quests send you to the Echo of the Enchanter, ask you to build up your enchanting setup, and then ask for Deepshelves for a World Engine upgrade.[11]
- "Meet The Enchanter" quest comes after Needing More Guidance and Guidance Check 1. It asks you to find the Echo of The Enchanter, and its text says that working with this Echo unlocks the Enchanting Upgrade for your World Engine. "Locating The Enchanter" quest is a checkmark quest whose reward sets a waypoint at the Echo's Archive entrance.[11]
- "Digging Deeper" quest tells you to dig further down until you find Deepslate, and says the remnants of ancient magic there can be tapped for enchanting powers.[11]
- "Stealing From Wardens" quest asks for an Echo Shard. Its text says you have a chance to run into the Ancient City in the lower parts of the Deepslate ring.[11]
- "Infusing The Magic" quest asks for an Enchanting Table, a Hellshelf or Seashelf, and one infused shelf: Infused Hellshelf, Blazing Hellshelf, Glowing Hellshelf, Infused Seashelf, Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf. It follows Stealing From Wardens and Enchanter Check 1. Its note says you need either Infused Hellshelves or Infused Seashelves to reach the Eterna levels required for progression.[11]
- "Magics of The Deep" quest is tagged as a Minor World Engine Upgrade and asks for a Deepshelf and an Echoing Deepshelf. It comes after Infusing The Magic.[11]
- An untitled quest, a quest in "Tier 2: Horizon", tells you to head back to the Echo of the Enchanter once you have crafted the Echoing Deepshelves, to learn how to install them as a World Engine upgrade. "Auto-Build The Enchanting Upgrade" quest then asks for the Deepshelf and Echoing Deepshelf. Its text says that submitting the blocks and claiming the rewards automatically assembles your team's World Engine, and that any blocks placed where an upgrade should go will be voided.[11]
Gearing Up, the full enchanting ladder
This chapter lays out the shelves as a ladder. It opens with "Gearing Up For Adventure!" quest, whose text says the chapter is about crafting, enhancing and enchanting your gear. a quest in "Gearing Up" then describes the three values you manage: Eterna (maximum level of enchants), Quanta (randomness) and Arcana (rarity and number of enchants).[2]
Several side quests come after the Enchanting Table quest, so you can take them in any order.[2]
- a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the Enchantment Library. Its text describes it as storage for enchantments that can create higher level books from enough low level ones, and notes that it is a Shop Only Item.[2]
- "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest asks for the Beeshelf, Melonshelf and Stoneshelf. Its text says these shelves provide bonuses like adding 100% Quanta, or removing Quanta and Arcana.[2]
- a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability. Its text says stabilization cancels out the negative side of Quanta's randomness, so you get the upside only.[2]
- a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for skulls or heads, and its text says they give a +5 boost to Quanta. "Arcana Items" quest suggests placing candles around the Enchanting Table if you need a boost of Arcana.[2]
- a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for one of Tome of Scrapping, Tome of Superior Scrapping or Tome of Extraction, plus a class tome such as Tome of Helmets, Tome of Boots, Tome of Weaponry, Tome of the Archers, Tome of the Miners or Tome of the Fishers. Its text says the Tome of Extraction removes all enchants while keeping the item from being destroyed.[2]
The main line is a chain of shelf tiers. Each quest below comes after the one before it.[2]
- "Upgraded Shelves" quest comes after the Enchanting Table quest and Meet The Enchanter. It asks for a Hellshelf, a Seashelf and an Occultism Spirit Attuned Crystal. Its text sets the goal of 45 Eterna at the Frontier World Tier.[2]
- "Infused Shelves" quest asks for the Infused Hellshelf and Infused Seashelf. Its text says Infused Hellshelves require at least 30 Quanta, Infused Seashelves require 15 Quanta and 10 Arcana, and Infused Bookshelves let you hit a max of 60 Eterna.[2]
- a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the Blazing Hellshelf or Glowing Hellshelf, plus the Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf. Its text sets the goal of 60 Eterna, 40 Quanta and 40 Arcana, and says you need the Ascent World Tier.[2]
- "Shelves of the Deep" quest asks for the Deepshelf plus one of Soul-Touched Deepshelf, Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures, Echoing Sculkshelf or Echoing Deepshelf. Its text says you also need the Summit World Tier, that these shelves can push Eterna to a max of 75, and that the Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures lets your table enchant Treasure Enchantments.[2]
- "Achieving Enlightenment" quest asks for Infused Dragon's Breath. Its text says you will need 80 Eterna, between 15 and 30 Quanta and at least 60 Arcana, and notes that Dragon's Breath can be obtained from the Chicken Jockey fight.[2]
- "Endshelf" quest asks for the Endshelf, which its text calls the base shelf for the final tier of enchanting.[2]
- "Level 100 Enchanting" quest asks for the Draconic Endshelf and the Pearlescent Endshelf. Its text says the Draconic Endshelf boosts Eterna by 20 for a max of 100, and that the Pearlescent Endshelf provides significant amounts of both Quanta and Arcana.[2]
- Two quests close the line, and both come after Level 100 Enchanting. "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest asks for the God-Fused Pearl and the Enchanting Table of the Raven, which its text says lets you configure Eterna, Quanta and Arcana manually without nearby bookshelves. "Library of Alexandria" quest asks for the Library of Alexandria. Its text says it can store enchantment values up to level 31, while the actual enchanted books are still capped at normal pack limits.[2]
Two optional quests also come after Infused Shelves. a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration, which its text says can be loaded with up to six enchanted books to block those enchantments, cursed ones included. a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the Hellshelf of Sight or Hellshelf of Masterful Sight, and its text says Enchanting Clues give you more text on the enchanting table.[2]
Tier 6: Ascension
The mod appears once in this chapter. "Ender Dragon Data Model" quest asks for Infused Dragon's Breath, a Dragon Egg and a Dragon Head, and it comes after "Ascension Tier 1 - Ethereal" quest. It is one of the quests that "Ascension Tier 2 - Transcendent" quest lists as coming before it. The first Ascension quest notes that all quests in this chapter must be completed using a Task Screen.[12]
What changed in Apothic Enchanting between versions?
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0 ships Apothic Enchanting version 1.6.4, using the file ApothicEnchanting-1.21.1-1.6.4.jar.[1]
The mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources here do not show any pack changelog entries for this mod, and they do not show what the mod's own 1.6.4 changelog says. Which changes arrived in which release, and whether the pack altered anything along the way, is therefore not confirmed in this guide.
