Apotheosis is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 8.9.0. All things that should have been (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Apotheosis?

2 parts

Apotheosis is the RPG-style loot and progression mod in the pack, and the pack ships version 8.8.0. It lets you strengthen any item you find, from vanilla or from other mods, with Affixes. Affixes work a bit like enchantments but follow very different rules. It also adds Gems, Sockets and World Tiers.[1][2]

The adventure side of the mod gives you procedurally generated loot with powerful bonuses, but it also brings new foes. It's for you if you like gearing up, chasing better rarities and making your own build rather than just crafting the vanilla tool tiers.[1][3]

The big pieces

  • Affix Items: each one has a Rarity that decides which affixes it gets and how strong they are. The rarities run from Common up to Mythic.[1][4]
  • Gems and Sockets: Gems add bonuses when socketed into affix items. A Sigil of Withdrawal removes a socketed gem, and a Sigil of Socketing adds a socket to an item that has none.[1][5]
  • World Tiers: there are five, from Haven up to Pinnacle. You pick one in the World Tier screen, which opens with CTRL+T by default. Higher tiers give better loot but make every enemy stronger.[1]
  • Salvage and reforge: you break affix items down in the Salvaging Table to get Rarity Materials. You then spend those materials to make new affix items in the Reforging Table.[1][6]
Tip: The mod has an in-game guidebook, the Chronicle of Shadows. You make it with a book and a gold ingot. Anything the pack disables won't show up in it, so it's a handy way to check what is actually in the pack.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Most of the Apotheosis quests sit in the gearing up chapter. It starts with Gem Dust in quest "Gems" quest. That one unlocks the Gem Case, the Simple Reforging Table, the Salvaging Table and several sigils, such as Sigil of Socketing and Sigil of Withdrawal.[7]

From there the chain goes on to the Reforging Table with Sigil of Rebirth in quest "Reforging Table" quest. The end of the line is the Augmenting Table with Sigil of Enhancement in quest "The Augmenting Table" quest.[7]

The Augmenting Table is an end-game station for upgrading or rerolling single affixes. You make it by focusing a Nether Star through two Godforged Pearls, using an Enchanting Table as the base. The God-Fused Pearl has its own quest, "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest.[7][8]

The mod also turns up outside that chapter. The Salvaging Table appears early, in a Getting Started quest ("Unearthing Villagers" quest) and again in a resource generation quest ("Geologist" quest). The Spawner Chain is in the resource generation quest "Apotheosis Spawners" quest. A Potion Charm is a task in a creative chapter quest, "Creative Chance Pendant" quest.[9][10][11]

Unverified The sources don't show whether the pack changes any Apotheosis costs, rarity limits or recipes. Modpacks are allowed to change reforging costs or block reforging at certain rarities, so check the recipes and costs in-game. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Apotheosis?

6 parts

Apotheosis gives you affix items, gems and a pile of crafting stations. The trick is knowing what to build first. Here is the order I'd go in, and the gearing up quests in this pack start from the same place.[1][7]

Tip: Make the in-game guidebook, the Chronicle of Shadows, early. You craft it with a book and a gold ingot. Alongside JEI, every bit of information about the mod is available in-game.[1]

Step one: find a gem and make your first Gem Dust

Gems turn up in chest loot and can rarely drop from mobs. Affix items come from loot chests and from random entities in your world. Your first affix item also unlocks the Haven world tier, which is active by default.[1][12][13]

Gem Dust is the key ingredient for nearly everything below. Your first two dust come from crushing two gems with an anvil in the world. The pack has a quest for this: "Gems" quest. Most of the other quests in the gearing up chapter unlock after it.[1][7][14]

Step two: build the Salvaging Table

The Salvaging Table breaks affix items down into Rarity Materials. Once you have it, you can also turn gems into Gem Dust there, so you don't need the anvil any more. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's version, so go by the one below. It is also the target of "Unearthing Villagers" quest in the getting started chapter.[1][6][9][14][15]

Step four: set up reforging

Reforging lets you give an item brand-new affixes, and it works on any valid item, even one with no affixes. Start with the Simple Reforging Table, which reforges items up to Rare. The pack's quest for it is "Simple Reforging Table" quest.[7][16]

Reforging also uses Sigil of Rebirth as fuel, plus Rarity Materials for the rarity you want.[16]

Step five: add the Gem Cutting Table

The Gem Cutting Table upgrades gems. An upgrade usually costs Gem Dust, Rarity Materials and a second gem of the same purity. Higher purities cost more, and you can see the exact cost in JEI.[17]

To reforge Epic items or better, upgrade your Simple Reforging Table into the Reforging Table. The matching quest is "Reforging Table" quest.[7][16]

How does Apotheosis work?

7 parts

The stations in Apotheosis are crafting tables that you feed items into, and the fuel for the two big ones is a sigil item. Once you know what each station does and what goes in each slot, the whole system clicks together.[8][13][16]

Salvaging Table

The Salvaging Table breaks Affix Items down into Rarity Materials. Each rarity gives its own material: common items give Mysterious Scrap Metal, uncommon give Timeworn Fabric, rare give Luminous Crystal Shard, epic give Arcane Sands, and mythic give Godforged Pearl. You then spend these materials in the other stations.[6]

The pack changes this recipe compared to the mod's default, so use the one below.[15]

Recipe id: apotheosis:salvaging_table

The table also handles Gems. Your first Gem Dust has to come from dropping a gem in the world and letting an anvil fall on it. After that, the Salvaging Table does the job for you.[13][14]

Reforging

Reforging gives an item brand new affixes, and it works on any valid item, not just ones that already have affixes. Start with the Simple Reforging Table, which reforges items up to Rare rarity. For Epic and above, you upgrade it into the Reforging Table.[16]

  • Center slot: the item you want to reforge.[16]
  • Top-left slot: Rarity Materials for the rarity you are reforging with.[16]
  • Bottom-right slot: Sigil of Rebirth, the fuel for reforging.[13][16]

Like an Enchanting Table, you are offered three choices, and none is inherently stronger. Every rarity has a base cost in experience, sigils and materials, and the extra choice slots charge double and triple that base cost. You can reforge the same item multiple times. The in-game guide also notes that modpacks can change the costs or block reforging at certain rarities.[16]

Gem Cutting and the Gem Case

The Gem Cutting Table upgrades Gems. An upgrade usually costs Gem Dust, Rarity Materials and a second Gem of the same purity. Stronger gems cost more dust and higher-tier materials, and a Perfect Gem can no longer be upgraded. JEI shows the exact cost of each upgrade.[12][17]

The Gem Case is the storage side of gems. It holds up to thirty two thousand gems of each type and purity, and can be upgraded to hold more. It has a name filter plus an item filter for finding gems that fit a specific item. Its six auxiliary slots hold upgrade materials, so you can upgrade gems right inside the case, which makes the Gem Cutting Table obsolete. A special Gem Case with a storage capacity of two billion exists, but you cannot craft it directly. It has to be made with Infusion Enchanting.[18]

Augmenting Table

The Augmenting Table is an end-game station for working on one affix at a time while leaving the rest of the item intact. The upper slot takes the affix item. The guide suggests augmenting items of at least Mythic rarity, though Epic ones are also worth considering. The lower slot takes Sigil of Enhancement, and you pick the affix from a drop-down menu.[8]

  • Upgrade: costs two Sigils of Enhancement and raises the internal strength of the chosen affix by 25%. How much of a boost that gives varies per affix.[8]
  • Reroll: costs one Sigil of Enhancement and swaps the chosen affix for another of the same type. The alternative options are shown on the left.[8]

Sockets

To socket a gem, combine the two in a Smithing Table, with the item on the left and the gem on the right. Each gem states which items it fits, and some gems are Unique, so only one copy fits in an item. Removing a socketed gem is costly, so choose carefully. If you need a way out, a Sigil of Withdrawal combined with the item in a Smithing Table removes the socketed gems. If an item has no free socket, Sigil of Socketing adds one.[12][13]

Spawner runes

The Spawner Module lets you move and modify Mob Spawners. The modifications come from runes, and this pack changes the recipes for every rune below, so always check the recipe shown on the site or in JEI.[15][19]

Upgrade runes improve the spawner itself. Frontiersman's Spawner Upgrade Rune slightly improves a spawner, Wayfarer's Spawner Upgrade Rune improves it, and Thundering Spawner Upgrade Rune brings it to its maximum potential.[13]

World Tiers

A World Tier is a per-player strength modifier for the world. There are five: Haven, Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Tiers do not activate automatically. After you unlock one, open the tier screen with CTRL+T (the default keybind) and press the Activate button. You can switch tiers at any time, and in multiplayer different players can use different tiers.[20][21]

The in-game guide notes that modpacks may change the unlock requirements, so check the Apothic World Tiers advancement tab in-game for the complete list.[22]

How do you progress through Apotheosis?

4 parts

Apotheosis progression in this pack runs on three tracks at once: World Tiers that make the world tougher and more rewarding, Enchanting Table levels that climb all the way to 100, and a gearing-up quest chain that unlocks the crafting stations you need along the way. Here's how they fit together.[7][21][23]

World Tiers

A World Tier is a per-player strength modifier. Each tier controls what content shows up, how strong enemies are and what bonuses you can get. There are five: Haven, Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle, each increasing difficulty and rewards over the last. Higher tiers also make higher-rarity items and Invaders more common.[21]

  1. Haven is enabled by default, but you won't see it until you've picked up your first Affix Item.[22]
  2. Frontier needs an Affix Item in each armor slot and an Affixed Weapon in either hand.[22]
  3. Ascent needs a full set of Uncommon Affix Items, including a weapon, plus a slain Apothic Invader.[22]
  4. Summit needs a full set of Rare Affix Items and a slain Wither.[22]
  5. Pinnacle needs a full set of Epic items and a slain Ender Dragon.[22]

Those are the mod's default requirements, and the mod itself warns that modpacks may change them. Check the Apothic World Tiers advancements tab in-game for the final word.[22]

Tip: Tiers don't activate on their own. After unlocking one, open the World Tier Select screen (CTRL+T by default), click the tier's symbol and press Activate. You can switch tiers at any time, and in multiplayer different players can sit on different tiers.[20]

The gearing-up quest chain

Everything starts with Gem Dust. The quest for it, "Gems" quest, asks you to hand in Gem Dust and unlocks the rest of the chain. Salvaging a gem in a Salvaging Table gives Gem Dust.[7][15]

You'll meet the Salvaging Table early, since a getting-started quest asks for it too. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs.[9][15]

The pack also changed how affix items salvage. Common, Uncommon and Rare items give the matching material, and both Epic and Mythic items give Epic material. The salvaging quest "The Salvaging Table" quest accepts any of the Common to Epic materials.[7][15]

Once you have Gem Dust, several quests open up in parallel, including these:[7]

Many of these sigils are built from Gem-Fused Slate, which is made from Gem Dust.[15]

The Augmenting Table is the end-game station. It upgrades or rerolls single affixes, so you can improve one affix without touching the rest. Upgrading costs two Sigils of Enhancement and raises the affix's internal strength by 25%. Rerolling costs one sigil and swaps the affix for another of the same type. The mod suggests augmenting items of at least Mythic rarity.[8]

Another gearing-up quest, "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest, asks for the God-Fused Pearl and the Enchanting Table of the Raven. The pack changed the God-Fused Pearl recipe, shown below. Don't confuse it with the Godforged Pearl, which is a separate item.[7][15]

  • Level 30: the usual setup with fifteen bookshelves.[24]
  • Level 45: add Hellshelves, or Seashelves if you'd rather avoid the Nether, to your existing bookshelves.[25]
  • Level 60: learn Infusion Enchanting, then infuse and upgrade a few more of the shelf type you chose.[25]
  • Level 70: needs a Level 60 table and Deepslate. Craft a Dormant Deepshelf, then infuse it into a Deepshelf.[26]
  • Level 75: upgrade your Deepshelves with Deep Dark materials. Echo Shards come from the Ancient City, and Sculk needs Silk Touch.[26]
  • Level 80: slay the Warden, which lets you craft Sculkshelves.[26]
  • Level 90: needs a Level 80 table and Dragon's Breath, which becomes Infused Dragon's Breath for Endshelves.[23]
  • Level 100: the maximum, reached with a Draconic Endshelf. It needs a Dragon Head from the outer End and adds no other stat bonuses.[23]

Spawner runes

If you modify spawners, the pack changed the Spawner Rune recipe, and it also changed the recipe for the Infused Spawner Rune. Quest "Apotheosis Spawners" quest asks for the Spawner Chain and a vanilla spawner.[10][15]

How does Apotheosis work with other mods?

5 parts

Apotheosis doesn't live in a bubble in this pack. Its materials, pearls and sigils show up in recipes from other mods, and the pack has changed or added several of them. Here's where the connections are.[15]

Create: Enchantment Industry

This is the biggest link. The pack changed the recipes for the Gem Cutter and the Affix Augmentor, and both need Apotheosis items. The Gem Cutter uses Gem Dust, and the Affix Augmentor asks for Apotheosis mythic material.[15]

Create mixing recipes, all changed by the pack, dissolve Apotheosis items into essences. Each rarity material feeds the same output, so you can turn leftovers from salvaging into Apotheotic Essence:[15]

The two affix templates are made by Create sequenced assembly, and the pack changed both. The Apotheotic Affix Template uses a Godforged Pearl and Apotheotic Essence. The Brass Affix Template uses Mysterious Scrap Metal.[15]

Gateways and the Apothic modules

The pack changed three recipes that make a Gate Pearl, one each for the ascent, summit and pinnacle tiers. All three use Gem Dust, and the higher tiers pull in items from Apothic Enchanting such as Infused Dragon's Breath and Warden Tendril.[15]

The same Apothic Enchanting items go into the changed recipes for the Thundering Spawner Upgrade Rune and the Mountaineer's Spawner Upgrade Rune, and both runes build on an Infused Spawner Rune. The pack changed the Enchanting Table of the Raven recipe too: it is an upgrade of the Apothic Enchanting Table, and "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest pairs it with the God-Fused Pearl. The recipes are shown below.[7][15]

Pack-added upgrades

The pack added smithing recipes that use Apotheosis upgrade templates on other mods' items. The iron template upgrades a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 to a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2, the gold template takes that to a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3, and the diamond template reaches a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[15]

The iron template also appears in the pack's recipe for the Reinforced Brush and in a shapeless recipe for the Player Upgrade.[15]

World Engine recipes

Two pack-added World Engine machine recipes use Apotheosis items alongside other mods' items. One takes a Godforged Pearl, Red Matter and an Infused Enderpearl. The other takes a God-Fused Pearl, a Sigil of Rebirth, a Sigil of Supremacy and an Awakened Draconium Ingot.[15]

Quests that mix Apotheosis with the rest of the pack

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Apotheosis?

4 parts

Apotheosis shows up in four quest chapters in this pack: getting_started, resource_generation, gearing_up and creative. The quests have no titles, so they are listed here by ID. The main Apotheosis line is in gearing_up. The other three chapters only ask for one or two Apotheosis items each. The sources don't say how the chapters are ordered in the quest book, so the order below follows the quest prerequisites within each chapter.[7][9][10][11]

Getting started

Your first contact is quest "Unearthing Villagers" quest. It asks for a decorated pot and a Salvaging Table, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[9]

Gearing up

This chapter holds the main Apotheosis progression. Everything starts with "Gems" quest, which asks for Gem Dust. It unlocks after two earlier quests that aren't part of this list. From there the line branches out.[7]

All six of those quests unlock directly after the Gem Dust quest. Two more quests build on them.[7]

  1. "Reforging Table" quest follows the Simple Reforging Table quest. It asks for a Reforging Table and a Sigil of Rebirth.[7]
  2. "The Augmenting Table" quest follows the Salvaging Table quest. It asks for an Augmenting Table and a Sigil of Enhancement.[7]

The last quest in the chapter is "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest. It asks for a God-Fused Pearl and the Raven Enchanting Table from Apothic Enchanting. It unlocks after a quest that isn't part of this list.[7]

Resource generation

Quest "Apotheosis Spawners" quest asks for a Spawner Chain and a Minecraft spawner. No prerequisite is listed for it. Quest "Geologist" quest asks for a Salvaging Table and one of cobblestone, gravel, soul sand or crushed kivi, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[10]

Creative

Quest "Creative Chance Pendant" quest asks for three Chance Cubes items: a chance cube, a compact giant chance cube and a chance icosahedron. It also asks for a Potion Charm. It unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter.[11]

Which Apotheosis config options matter?

4 parts

The only Apotheosis config I can show you in full detail here is the name generation file, config/apotheosis/name_generation.cfg. It controls how Apotheosis names gear and bosses. It's cosmetic rather than gameplay-changing, but it's where this pack made the most edits.[27]

Material prefixes: mostly emptied

Each armor or tool material group has a list of material-based prefix names, and the mod allows that list to be empty. The pack has set a large number of these lists to empty, and the file marks every one of them as changed from the mod default. Examples are armors.mekanism_jetpack, armors.irons_spellbooks_pyromancer_helmet and armors.twilightforest_knightmetal_helmet.[27]

The same goes for tool groups such as tools.DIAMOND and tools.GOLD, which also cover modded weapons that share those materials, and for tools.DARK_MATTER.[27]

Some vanilla armor groups still have prefix names. For example, armors.minecraft_diamond_helmet lists Diamond, Zircon, Gemstone, Jewel and Crystal, and armors.minecraft_iron_helmet lists Iron, Steel, Ferrous, Rusty and Wrought Iron. The file flags these as changed too, but the names it shows match the mod default's list, so don't expect different words there.[27]

Item root names

The item root name lists, such as items.swords, items.axes and items.shields, are used when generating item names and may not be empty. The file marks them as changed, but the names listed look the same as the default. For instance, swords can come out as Sword, Cutter, Claymore, Rapier or Calibur, and shields as Shield, Buckler, Bulwark or Aegis.[27]

Boss names

Four options feed the boss name generator: entity.Names (full names), [[config:config/apotheosis/name_generation.cfg#entity.Name Parts]] (pieces spliced into names), entity.Prefixes and entity.Suffixes. A suffix is always preceded by "The". Prefixes include Sir, Lord and Captain, and suffixes include Mighty, Legendary and Cookie Enthusiast.[27]

Tip: All of these lists are plain text, so if you want your own boss names or want to add prefixes back to an emptied material group, this is the file to edit.[27]

What I can't confirm

Unverified The other Apotheosis config files in config/apotheosis (apotheosis.cfg, apothic_attributes.cfg, apothic_enchanting.cfg and enchantments.cfg) were not available for this section, so their pack values are unconfirmed. Anything about the adventure module, attributes, enchanting or individual enchantments would be set in those files. The name generation file also has 91 more options that were not shown.

What changed in Apotheosis between versions?

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Apotheosis 8.8.0 (the file is Apotheosis-1.21.1-8.8.0.jar). The mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier, so it's not a recent addition.[2]

The mod's own changelogs for 8.6.0, 8.7.0 and 8.8.0 exist on the 1.21 branch of its repository, but the entries weren't included in what I was given. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod either.[2][28][29][30]

Unverified The specific changes made in Apotheosis 8.6.0, 8.7.0 and 8.8.0 could not be confirmed, so they aren't listed here. Check the mod's changelog before relying on any particular behavior change.

combat_rules.Negative Armor Factor changed by FTB StoneBlock 4
The factor by which negative armor values will increase incoming damage. Each point of negative armor will increase incoming damage by this factor. A value of 0.015 means that 1 point of negative armor will increase incoming damage by 1.5%. Note: Negative armor is typically only encountered when the attacker has more armor pen than the defender has armor.
config/apotheosis/apothic_attributes.cfg
0.0150.015
effects.Ancient Knowledge Multiplier changed by FTB StoneBlock 4
The value (per-level) of the Experience Gained attribute modifier provided by Ancient Knowledge. Synced.
config/apotheosis/apothic_attributes.cfg

general.Hidden Attributes changed by FTB StoneBlock 4
A list of attributes that will be hidden from the Attributes GUI. Client-authoritative. This is useful for attributes that are not meant to be visible to players, such as those used by Apothic Attributes itself. This config supports the following input formats: - ResourceLocation strings, such as minecraft:generic.max_health, used to block specific attributes. - Namespaced wildcards, such as apothic_attributes:*, used to block all attributes in a namespace. - Negation entries, such as !apothic_attributes:elytra_flight, which will un-block a specific attribute that would otherwise be blocked by a wildcard. Note: The list is processed in order. Place negation entries at the end of the list to ensure they take precedence.
