Gateways To Eternity is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 5.1.0. Adds wave-based combat events called Gateways (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Gateways To Eternity?

1 part

This pack includes Gateways To Eternity 5.1.0, the 1.21.1 build of the mod. The sources here don't describe what the mod does on its own, so this section sticks to what the pack's quest book shows: where the mod's items are used and what they sit next to.[1]

The Gate Pearl in the quest book

The only item from this mod that the quests ask for is the Gate Pearl. It appears in two chapters: the bounty board chapter and the World Engine tier 4 chapter.[2][3]

Both chapters pair the Gate Pearl with Cataclysm items, so if you are chasing those quests, plan for that mod too.[2][3]

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Everything around this mod starts with one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway. It only works if the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing, so give yourself some room.[4]

Watch out: An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained.[4]

Step 1: Make your first Gate Pearl

This pack has several different recipes that all produce a Gate Pearl. Emerald Grove is a gate recipe that comes from the mod itself, and the pack has not changed it, so it is the natural place to start.[5]

Step 2: Pack-changed recipes

Overworldian Nights is a gate recipe the pack has changed, so do not rely on the mod's defaults. Check the recipe below.[5]

There are also four tiered Gate Pearl recipes under the Apotheosis namespace, and the pack has changed all of them. They are the Frontier, Summit, Ascent and Pinnacle recipes.[5]

Where the quest book uses Gate Pearls

The Bounty Board chapter has several quests that combine a kill task with a Gate Pearl item task: "Kill The Priest" quest, "Kill The Apothecarist" quest, "Kill The Pyromancer" quest, "Kill The Archevoker" quest and "Kill The Cryomancer" quest. Another quest in that chapter, "Kill The Leviathan" quest, also asks for a Gate Pearl, plus an item from another mod, a kill, and two structure tasks.[2]

Later on, "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest in the World Engine tier 4 chapter asks you to hand in a Gate Pearl together with two items from another mod. It comes after two earlier quests in the quest book.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

3 parts

The sources for Gateways To Eternity in this pack center on one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, and from there it's a fight against whatever the Gateway throws at you.[4]

Summoning a Gateway

Use a Gate Pearl on a block and a Gateway opens there. It only works if the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If a pearl refuses to work, move away from the existing Gateway and try again.[4]

How a Gateway can fail

An open Gateway isn't safe to ignore. It fails in a burst of lightning if any of these happens:[4]

  • It cannot spawn a mob.[4]
  • Any active mob walks too far away.[4]
  • The wave timer elapses.[4]

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you don't have to wait for the end to start collecting.[4]

Tip: Keep the fight contained. A mob that walks too far away counts against you, and so does letting the wave timer run out.[4]

Getting Gate Pearls in this pack

The pack has several different recipes that produce a Gate Pearl. The Apotheosis tiered recipes (frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle) and the Overworldian Nights recipe were all changed by the pack. The Emerald Grove recipe is the one listed as an unchanged mod recipe. Each recipe is shown below exactly as it works in this pack.[5]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity progression is all about the Gate Pearl. Every gate is opened with one, and the pack gives you several different ways to make it, from a flower-and-ender-eye pearl early on to expensive Apotheosis-themed pearls later.[5]

Early pearls

The simplest pearl is the Emerald Grove one. That recipe comes straight from the mod and the pack hasn't touched it.[5]

The Overworldian Nights pearl is different. The pack changed this recipe, and it now uses Grains of Infinity from Ender IO, so expect to have some of that tech set up first.[5]

The tiered pearls

The pack also has Gate Pearl recipes under an Apotheosis tiered path, named frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle. Each of these recipes is marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Open each recipe below to see exactly what it needs in this pack.[5]

The ascent, summit and pinnacle pearls ask for Apotheosis materials such as gem dust, and the pinnacle one also needs materials from Apothic Enchanting.[5]

Quests that use Gate Pearls

The World Engine chapter for tier 4 has a quest, "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest, that asks you to hand in a Gate Pearl together with an Abyssal Sacrifice and an Abyssal Egg. It unlocks after two earlier quests in that chapter, so you can't jump straight to it.[3]

The bounty board chapter is where gates become a repeatable fight. Five of its quests, "Kill The Priest" quest, "Kill The Apothecarist" quest, "Kill The Pyromancer" quest, "Kill The Archevoker" quest and "Kill The Cryomancer" quest, each pair a Gate Pearl item task with a kill task.[2]

The last bounty, "Kill The Leviathan" quest, is the bigger one. It combines a Gate Pearl, an Abyssal Sacrifice, a kill task and two structure tasks.[2]

Tip: The same Abyssal Sacrifice shows up in both the tier 4 World Engine quest and the biggest bounty, so it's worth planning for it before you start on either.[2][3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

3 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity connects to other mods mainly through one item, the Gate Pearl. The pack changed every recipe listed here that makes a Gate Pearl, so what you see below is the pack's own version, not the mod's default.[5]

Apotheosis and Apothic Enchanting

The tiered Gate Pearl recipes are shaped crafting recipes under the Apotheosis namespace, named ascent, summit and pinnacle. They use Apotheosis materials such as Gem Dust. The pinnacle one also pulls in Infused Dragon's Breath and Warden Tendril from Apothic Enchanting.[5]

Ender IO

The Overworldian Nights recipe uses the Gateways gate recipe type, and the pack changed it too. It is the one that brings in Ender IO, through Grains of Infinity.[5]

Quests and Cataclysm

The Gate Pearl also shows up in the quest book. Several quests in the bounty_board chapter pair a kill task with a Gate Pearl item task: "Kill The Priest" quest, "Kill The Apothecarist" quest, "Kill The Pyromancer" quest, "Kill The Archevoker" quest and "Kill The Cryomancer" quest.[2]

"Kill The Leviathan" quest in the same chapter goes further. Besides the Gate Pearl and a kill task, it asks for the Cataclysm item Abyssal Sacrifice and includes structure tasks.[2]

The world_engine tier 4 chapter has "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest, which has item tasks for a Gate Pearl, Abyssal Sacrifice and Abyssal Egg. So that quest ties Gateways items together with Cataclysm items.[3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Gateways To Eternity appears in the Bounty Board and World Engine Tier 4 quest chapters of this pack. Both centre on the Gate Pearl, so it's worth getting comfortable with that item.[2][3]

Bounty Board chapter

Several quests in this chapter involve the Gate Pearl. Most of them are built the same way: each has a kill task plus an item task for the Gate Pearl. Those are "Kill The Priest" quest, "Kill The Apothecarist" quest, "Kill The Pyromancer" quest, "Kill The Archevoker" quest and "Kill The Cryomancer" quest.[2]

"Kill The Leviathan" quest asks for more. It has an item task for the Gate Pearl, an item task for Abyssal Sacrifice, a kill task and structure tasks.[2]

World Engine, Tier 4

This chapter has a quest that involves the mod: "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest. Its tasks are all items: the Gate Pearl, Abyssal Sacrifice and Abyssal Egg.[3]

It comes after the quests "Draconic Core" quest and "Wyrmwright Check 1" quest, so you'll want to get through those first.[3]

Tip: The last Bounty Board quest listed above and the World Engine Tier 4 quest both ask for the Gate Pearl together with the Abyssal Sacrifice item. If you're heading toward either one, plan for both items.[2][3]
