What is Actually Additions?

2 parts

Actually Additions is a magitech mod full of gadgets, and this pack ships version 1.3.26 of it. It all starts with the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer. You use them to turn minerals into powerful crystals, and those crystals unlock the rest of the mod.[1][2]

From there you can build machines for processing and sorting items, lasers that move energy, items and fluids wirelessly, and a renewable oil setup for generating power. If you like building up a tech base step by step, this mod is for you.[1]

Where it fits in the quest book

The main path is in the technology chapter. You start by collecting Black Quartz in "Actually Additions" quest. Then you get an Atomic Reconstructor and one of the crystals or Ethetic Quartz in "Atomic Reconstructor" quest. After that you set up the Empowerer, a Display Stand and an empowered crystal in "Empowering Crystals" quest.[3]

Once you have the Atomic Reconstructor, the technology chapter also asks for one of the lenses, such as the Lens of the Miner, in a quest in "General Tech". The power chapter asks for a battery in a quest in "Power", which unlocks after the Atomic Reconstructor quest.[3][4]

The mod also shows up in the later World Engine chapters. Tier 3 asks for black quartz and the Atomic Reconstructor in "Reconstructing Minerals" quest, then an Empowerer, a Display Stand and an Empowered Diamatine Crystal Block in "Empowering Diamonds" quest. Tier 5 includes an Empowered Void Crystal Block in "Neutron Activator" quest.[5][6]

Gear and handy extras

How do you get started with Actually Additions?

5 parts

Actually Additions is built around crystals. You use the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer to turn minerals into powerful crystals, and those crystals lead to the rest of the mod. The pack's quest book touches these items in a similar order, so the steps below follow it.[1][3]

Step 1: Get Black Quartz

The first quest in the technology chapter asks for Black Quartz ("Actually Additions" quest). You get it by cooking Black Quartz Ore. A furnace and a blast furnace both work.[3][11]

Black QuartzMod recipe

Smelting

Recipe id: actuallyadditions:black_quartz_ore_smelting

The pack also has a blasting recipe for the same result.

Step 2: Build the Atomic Reconstructor

Next you craft the Atomic Reconstructor. The follow-up quest "Atomic Reconstructor" quest also wants one crystal. Any of the six crystal types counts, and so does Ethetic Quartz. The tier 3 World Engine chapter asks for the same Black Quartz and Reconstructor pair in "Reconstructing Minerals" quest, so this early work pays off twice.[3][5][11]

Step 3: Make your first crystals

The mod has an achievement for making a crystal with the Atomic Reconstructor. The quests in this pack accept six crystal types: Void, Palis, Enori, Restonia, Diamatine and Emeradic. Each one also has a shard form, and a compress recipe turns the shard into the crystal. The Restonia one is shown below.[3][11][12]

Step 4: Craft the Empowerer

Quest "Empowering Crystals" quest asks for an Empowerer, a Display Stand and any empowered crystal. The Empowerer recipe builds on other items from this mod, so craft them in the order shown below and finish with the Empowerer.[3][11]

Tip: The later World Engine quests also ask for empowered crystal blocks. Quest "Empowering Diamonds" quest wants an Empowered Diamatine Crystal Block, and "Neutron Activator" quest wants an Empowered Void Crystal Block. Both have compress recipes, so plan on making plenty of empowered crystals.[5][6][11]

How does Actually Additions work?

7 parts

Actually Additions is built around a simple loop: you turn minerals into crystals with the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer, then use those crystals to build machines for processing and sorting items. Lasers move energy, items and fluids wirelessly between them, and renewable oil can power it all. This section covers how those pieces behave in this pack, as far as the sources explain them.[1]

The Atomic Reconstructor

The Atomic Reconstructor is where most progression starts. Its config says it can store 300,000 energy, set by machineSettings.reconstructorPower. That matches the mod default, so the pack did not change it. The energy use of its Mining Lens is listed as 60,000, set by machineSettings.minerLensEnergy, which is also the mod default.[13]

Coils and the machines built on them

Many machines are built from coils. Here the pack has changed the Advanced Coil recipe. It is built from a Basic Coil plus a gold nugget, so check the recipe below rather than relying on what you remember from the base mod.[11]

Battery items have a charging mode you toggle by sneak-right-clicking. Their tooltips show either that the battery is charging other items in your inventory or that it is not.[12]

Laser relays: power, items and fluids

Laser relays are how Actually Additions moves things around without pipes. A relay can be set to take only out of adjacent blocks or only into adjacent blocks. You change that by right-clicking the relay while holding the relay configurator, which is a compass in this pack, set by other.relayConfigurator. Item Laser Relays show a number you raise with right-click and lower with sneak-right-click. Energy relays show a prompt to right-click to change their setting.[12][13]

The option machineSettings.laserRelayLoss is set to true in this pack, so Energy Laser Relays are configured to have energy loss. The sources don't say how much.[13]

The pack has raised the Fluid Laser Relay's transfer rate. The config describes the option as the amount of fluid it can transfer per tick, and it is 100,000 here instead of the mod default of 10,000, set by machineSettings.fluidLaserTransferRate. The oil generator's transfer was raised too, to 2,500 from the default of 500, set by machineSettings.oilGeneratorTransfer.[13]

Item automation with Item Interfaces

The in-game guide explains that an Item Laser Relay network on its own will just "know about" the items and slots in the containers connected to it. The Item Interface is how you interact with those items directly. It pretends to be one very large chest containing every slot of every connected container.[12]

That means you can use a hopper, or any other item transport, on an Item Interface and it functions like a chest, accepting items and letting them be pulled out. Nothing is stored in the interface itself: items go to and come from the laser relay network. To connect an interface to a network, place an Item Laser Relay next to it.[12]

The Hopping Item Interface works the same way and connects the same way, but according to the guide it pulls and pushes items on its own. It has every functionality of a hopper, but it stores items in the network instead of an internal inventory.[12]

Filters and slot ranges

  • The filter tooltip says an empty blocklist can be used to let all items through, and an empty allowlist to let no items through. To configure certain items, you place them or configured Item Filters in the slots.[12]
  • The tooltip for the mod-respecting option says the filter then compares the mods items come from instead of the items themselves, which it describes as useful for storage systems with mod-based chests.[12]
  • The tooltip for the smart-fill button says that pressing it adds all items from inventories adjacent to the relay to that part of the allowlist or blocklist.[12]
  • The inputter tooltips describe a start slot and an end slot that is the slot after the last one used. The example given is that writing 2 and 5 covers slots 2, 3 and 4.[12]

Configuring machines in the world

Some machines are set up by right-clicking them with a specific item. Redstone mode is toggled with a redstone torch in this pack, set by other.redstoneConfigurator. The Farmer's area is changed with a compass, set by other.farmerConfigurator. The config describes the Farmer's area as 9x9 by default, set by machineSettings.farmerArea, and says the size must be an odd number.[12][13]

The Phantom Placer can place blocks in mid-air, so it doesn't know which side of a block it is placing against. The mod advises setting it to a solid side.[12]

If a machine tells you its Controller isn't part of the right multiblock, look at the Controller's description. The sources here don't show the layouts themselves.[12]

Generators and miners

The config lists the Leaf-Eating Generator's harvesting area as 7x7x7, set by machineSettings.leafGeneratorArea. It lists a 5-tick cooldown between generation cycles, set by machineSettings.leafGeneratorCooldown, and an energy production of 300 CF per leaf, set by machineSettings.leafGeneratorCPPerLeaf. Each of these matches the mod default.[13]

By default, the config descriptions say, the Vertical Digger mines everything in the ores tags. The extra whitelist, machineSettings.verticalDiggerExtraWhitelist, only applies in Ores Only Mode. The blacklist, machineSettings.verticalDiggerBlacklist, applies in both modes. The pack leaves both lists empty.[13]

Drill augments are tiered. The tooltips say you need the previous tier to install an augment, and that you need to remove the highest tier augments first.[12]

Tip: The item tooltip text says to press CTRL for advanced info, and the HUD text says to sneak while looking at an Actually Additions block to see more information about it. If the energy overlay bothers you, hideEnergyOverlay hides it. It is set to false in this pack, so the overlay is shown.[12][14]

How do you progress through Actually Additions?

6 parts

Actually Additions in this pack is a ladder: raw crystals first, then empowered crystals, then machines and tools that are built from them. The pack's quests follow that order, so you can use them as your checklist.[3][11]

Tier 1: Black Quartz and the Atomic Reconstructor

The chain starts with Black Quartz in quest "Actually Additions" quest. You get it by smelting or blasting Black Quartz Ore. The next quest, "Atomic Reconstructor" quest, asks for an Atomic Reconstructor plus any one of the six raw crystals or Ethetic Quartz.[3][11]

The raw crystals are Void, Palis, Enori, Restonia, Diamatine and Emeradic. In the pack's laser recipes, each one is made from a common material: coal, lapis, iron ingots, redstone dust, diamonds and emeralds respectively. A quartz block becomes Ethetic Quartz the same way. Shards can also be compressed into crystals, and crystal blocks can be turned back into crystals.[11]

Tier 2: Empowering and lenses

Quest "Empowering Crystals" quest needs an Empowerer, a Display Stand and one empowered crystal. The recipes for the Display Stand and the Empowerer are shown below, followed by the Double Battery that goes into the Empowerer.[3][11]

Later tiers: the World Engine

The World Engine tier 3 chapter brings you back to the same gear. Quest "Reconstructing Minerals" quest asks for Black Quartz and an Atomic Reconstructor. Quest "Empowering Diamonds" quest then asks for a Display Stand, an Empowerer and an Empowered Diamatine Crystal Block. Crystal blocks are made by compressing the empowered crystals.[5][11]

Optional quality-of-life quests

The useful items chapter has a Coffee Maker quest and a Crafting Table On A Stick quest, in a quest in "Useful Items & Tips" and "On A STICK!" quest. The exploration chapter has a quest for the Teleport Staff, in a quest in "Exploration".[8][9]

How does Actually Additions work with other mods?

5 parts

Actually Additions doesn't live in a bubble in this pack. Its crystals, Black Quartz and crops show up in recipes from a lot of other mods, and most of those recipes were added or changed by the pack. Here's where the connections are.[11]

Farming: canola and coffee

The pack adds Immersive Engineering Cloche recipes for Canola Plant and Coffee Beans. They work with Rich Soil from Farmer's Delight, and also with the four Just Dire Things goo soils, from Primogel Soil up to Shadowpulse Soil.[11]

If you need a source of Canola Seeds, the pack's crook recipe for sand is one. The same recipe also gives things like Occultism's Demon's Dream Seeds and Supplementaries' Flax Seeds. The recipe is shown below.[11]

Crook (ftbstuff)

Recipe id: ftb:ftbstuff/crook/sand

Black Quartz across the pack

Black Quartz has the most outside links. The pack added a Create crushing recipe that gives it along with a Nugget of Experience, and a Chicken Roost recipe where the Black Quartz Chicken produces it. Both are shown below.[11]

World Engine recipes

Many of the pack's World Engine recipes call for empowered crystals or crystal blocks from this mod alongside items from other mods. For example, Empowered Palis Crystal Block appears in the World Engine enchanted book recipes, which also pull in items from Ars Nouveau, Create, EnderIO, Malum and more.[11]

Other pack-added World Engine recipes use this mod's crystals too, including Empowered Restonia Crystal for the Pipez Ultimate Pipe Upgrade, Empowered Diamatine Crystal Block for the World Engine machine blocks, and Empowered Emeradic Crystal for the XP Synthesiser. The Pipez one is shown below.[11]

The quests follow the same pattern. A World Engine tier 3 quest chains the Atomic Reconstructor, Empowerer and Display Stand into an Empowered Diamatine Crystal Block task. A tier 5 quest asks for Empowered Void Crystal Block next to Oritech and Cognition items.[5][6]

Tools and weapons

The pack changed two tool recipes to use Actually Additions items. The Omni Vajra uses an Ender Star, and the Diamond Spear uses a Diamatine Crystal.[11]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Actually Additions?

4 parts

Actually Additions shows up in several quest chapters in this pack. The main line is the technology chapter, and a few other chapters ask for one or two items from the mod. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so they are described here by what they ask you to hold.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]

The technology chapter

This is the main chain, and it runs in four steps.[3]

  1. "Actually Additions" quest is the start of the chain and asks for Black Quartz.[3]
  2. "Atomic Reconstructor" quest unlocks after that. It asks for the Atomic Reconstructor plus one of these: Void Crystal, Palis Crystal, Enori Crystal, Restonia Crystal, Diamatine Crystal, Emeradic Crystal or Ethetic Quartz.[3]
  3. "Empowering Crystals" quest comes after the Atomic Reconstructor quest. It asks for the Empowerer, the Display Stand and any one empowered crystal: Restonia, Palis, Diamatine, Void, Emeradic or Enori.[3]
  4. a quest in "General Tech" also comes after the Atomic Reconstructor quest. It asks for any one of these lenses: Lens of Color, Lens of Detonation, Lens of Certain Death, Lens of the Miner or Lens of Disenchanting.[3]

The Empowerer quest and the lens quest are parallel branches. Both only need the Atomic Reconstructor quest done, so you can take them in either order.[3]

Power chapter

a quest in "Power" asks for any one battery: Single Battery, Double Battery, Triple Battery, Quadruple Battery or Quintuple Battery. It unlocks after the Atomic Reconstructor quest in the technology chapter, so that is the one to finish first.[3][4]

Gearing up and handy items

World Engine quests

The mod also appears in two World Engine chapters. In the Tier 3 chapter, "Reconstructing Minerals" quest asks for Black Quartz and the Atomic Reconstructor. It unlocks after two other quests that are not from this mod. "Empowering Diamonds" quest follows it and asks for the Display Stand, the Empowerer and an Empowered Diamatine Crystal Block.[5]

In the Tier 5 chapter, "Neutron Activator" quest asks for an Empowered Void Crystal Block alongside items from other mods: a Custom Machinery machine item, Oritech's carbon plating block, reactor reflector and reactor vent, and Cognition's whisperglass. It unlocks after another quest outside this mod.[6]

Which Actually Additions config options matter?

5 parts

In the config files this pack ships, only a couple of machine values are marked as changed from the mod default, and the world generation toggles are worth knowing about. Here is what matters, starting with the changes.[13]

Values the pack changed

World generation is switched off

As the pack's config file is set, canola, coffee, flax, Black Quartz and rice are all false, so none of them are set to generate in the world: worldgenSettings.generateCanola, worldgenSettings.generateCoffee, worldgenSettings.generateFlax, worldgenSettings.generateQuartz and worldgenSettings.generateRice. Don't go hunting for them out in the world.[13]

In the same file, dungeon loot is off too, via other.villageAndDungeonLoot. other.tinyCoal is false, which means Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal are set to not be craftable.[13]

Machine settings listed at the mod default

In the pack's config file these values are listed as equal to the mod defaults. machineSettings.farmerArea is 9, a 9x9 farming area. machineSettings.leafGeneratorArea is 7, a 7x7x7 harvesting area. machineSettings.leafGeneratorCooldown is 5 ticks, and machineSettings.leafGeneratorCPPerLeaf is 300 CF per leaf. For the Atomic Reconstructor, machineSettings.minerLensEnergy is 60,000 and machineSettings.reconstructorPower is 300,000.[13]

machineSettings.laserRelayLoss is set to true in the pack's config, which means Energy Laser Relays are set to have energy loss. Factor that into your power setups.[13]

Digger and drill lists

In the pack's config file, itemsSettings.drillExtraWhitelist has one entry, TConstruct:GravelOre. Both machineSettings.verticalDiggerBlacklist and machineSettings.verticalDiggerExtraWhitelist are empty, so no extra exclusions or additions are configured for the Vertical Digger beyond its default of mining what is in the ores tags.[13]

Configurator items and quality of life
