What is Roost Ultimate?
1 part
Roost Ultimate is a chicken-focused mod, and this pack ships version 4.1.0 of it. All of its items use the chicken_roost namespace, and they include a range of chickens, colored eggs, and the machines for housing, feeding, breeding and training them.[1][2]
The pack's quest book puts the mod in the resource_generation chapter. That tells you the pack treats chickens as a way to get materials. The quests run from a basic Chicken up to the Nether Star Chicken, so it suits you if you want to automate resources rather than mine them.[2]
Where it fits in the quest progression
The chapter is a clear ladder. Here is the order the quests unlock in.[2]
- Start with "Chickens!!" quest: get the Chicken Stick - Wrench and a Chicken.[2]
- Next comes the Roost in "Roost Ultimate" quest. A separate quest, "Basic Dye Chickens" quest, asks for any one of the colored chicken eggs.[2]
- After the Roost, the chapter branches into the Roost Feeder and Roost Collector, the Breeder, and the Soul Extractor with Chicken Seed Tier 1.[2]
- The Chicken Trainer unlocks after the Breeder quest.[2]
- The Gold Chicken quest requires both the Iron Chicken quest and the Soul Extractor quest first.[2]
- From there the chain continues through Diamond Chicken, then Netherite Chicken and Emerald Chicken, and ends with the Nether Star Chicken.[2]
The chicken stick also shows up in a task in the bounty_board chapter, in "Kill: Mighty Ender Chicken" quest, next to a kill task and a structure task.[3]
Unverified The sources don't say what each chicken produces, how fast, or how the Roost, Breeder and Trainer work in detail. Check those in-game before you plan a build around them.
How do you get started with Roost Ultimate?
5 parts
Roost Ultimate is about raising chickens that produce resources. In this pack the quest chapter "resource_generation" gives you a clear order to follow, so this section walks through it. The recipes shown are the exact in-pack ones, and several have been changed by the pack.[2][4]
Chicken Stick and your first Chicken
Everything starts with "Chickens!!" quest, which asks for a Chicken Stick - Wrench and a Chicken. Make the stick right away, because the Breeder and Soul Extractor recipes both use it. A bounty board quest, "Kill: Mighty Ender Chicken" quest, also lists it.[2][3][4]

Build a Roost
Once the stick quest is done, "Roost Ultimate" quest asks you to craft a Roost. This is the block your chickens live in, and three more quests unlock after it.[2]
Also open after the stick quest is "Basic Dye Chickens" quest, which accepts any one of the coloured eggs. The pack changes the black, blue, brown and white egg recipes, while the other colours are the mod's own.[2][4]

Automate and expand
After the Roost, the quest book opens three quests:[2]
- "Wireless Chickens" quest wants a Roost Feeder and a Roost Collector. The pack has changed both recipes.[2][4]
- "Breeding Chickens" quest wants a Breeder, and "Hitting The Gym" quest then asks for the Chicken Trainer.[2]
- "Soul Extracting and Seeds" quest wants a Soul Extractor and Chicken Seed Tier 1.[2]

Chicken Seed
The pack changes the Chicken Seed Tier 1 recipe, which uses a Chicken Soul Tier 1. The recipes for seed tiers 2 to 6 are also pack-changed. Seeds matter because the pack's copying and breeding recipes each ask for a seed of a given tier or higher.[4]

The pack also adds a trainer output recipe that takes any roost chicken and gives Chicken Seed Tier 1. On top of that, it adds Cloche recipes that take Chicken Seed Tier 1 plus a soil, such as dirt or Rich Soil, and give Chicken Seed Tier 1 back.[4]
Water and lava, then up the metal ladder
"Craftable Tier 2 Chickens" quest accepts either a Water Chicken or a Lava Chicken. Both are pack-added recipes that use a Tier 1 soul, a bucket and a chicken from the tier 1 roost group.[2][4]

From there the chapter climbs from Iron Chicken to Gold Chicken, then Diamond Chicken, with Emerald Chicken and Netherite Chicken after that, ending at Nether Star Chicken. The pack adds a breeding recipe for the iron chicken that needs Chicken Seed Tier 2 or higher, so make seeds before you start breeding.[2][4]

How does Roost Ultimate work?
5 parts
Roost Ultimate is all about chickens: you keep them in roosts, breed them, train them and feed them seeds. The sources for this mod cover timing, XP and range settings plus the machine interface. They don't mention power or fluids at all, so this section sticks to what's confirmed.[5][6]
Machine speeds
The server config sets how long each process takes, and the config comments describe all of these values in seconds. These are the values this pack uses.[6]
- Roost production: 5 seconds (roostspeed).[6]
- Breeding: 15 seconds (breederspeed).[6]
- Training: 15 seconds (trainerspeed).[6]
- Soul extraction: 5 seconds (soulextractspeed).[6]
- Soul breeding: 10 seconds (soulbreedspeed).[6]
Breeder placement
enableboth is on in this pack. The config comment says breeder crafting works both ways, so it doesn't matter whether you put the chicken on the right or the left.[6]
The Breeder is crafted from a chicken, the wrench and any roost. The recipe below is the exact in-pack version.[4]

Seeds, XP and levels
Chickens level up through XP, and seeds come in nine tiers, from Chicken Seed Tier 1 to Chicken Seed Tier 9. The config comments describe a per-tier XP amount for seeds, an XP requirement per level-up, and a max level per tier. In this pack the max level is 128 for every tier (level_tier_1 through level_tier_9).[4][6]
Going by the config comments, the values for each tier are below. The first number is the seed XP amount (seeds_tier_1 and its siblings) and the second is the XP needed per level-up (xp_tier_1 and its siblings).[6]
- Tier 1: 50 and 500.[6]
- Tier 2: 200 and 2,000.[6]
- Tier 3: 300 and 3,000.[6]
- Tier 4: 500 and 6,250.[6]
- Tier 5: 700 and 12,500.[6]
- Tier 6: 1,000 and 25,000.[6]
- Tier 7: 1,500 and 32,500.[6]
- Tier 8: 2,500 and 40,000.[6]
- Tier 9: 5,000 and 50,000.[6]
passivexp is set to 0 in this pack. That option controls the passive XP gained while breeding or inside the roost, so this pack gives no passive XP from those sources.[6]

Collector and feeder range
The Roost Collector and the feeder both have a configurable max range, and both are set to 30 in this pack (collector_maxrange and feeder_maxrange). The pack also changed the collector's recipe from the mod's default.[4][6]

Automation and the machine interface
The machine screens have a few automation toggles. One enables or disables auto output into any storage block below the machine. Another toggles Round Robin Mode. A third changes the send amount between SINGLE, HALF and FULL. There's also a Vanilla Mode switch for the interface.[5]
The client config has colorblind options for the roost, breeder, trainer and extractor screens. Each of these is set to false in this pack (roost_cb, breeder_cb, trainer_cb and extractor_cb).[7]
If a chicken's tooltip says no spawn was found, the mod's own text tells you to check recipes. That means it isn't found naturally in any biome.[5]
Unverified leveloutputsplit is set to 2 and is described as the level split for output in the roost, but the sources don't explain how it affects output. The sources also don't cover power or fluid handling, what the wrench does on use, or the exact behavior of each toggle beyond its tooltip.
How do you progress through Roost Ultimate?
5 parts
The pack's Roost Ultimate progression lives in the resource generation quest chapter. It's a ladder of chickens, from a plain Chicken up to a Nether Star Chicken, gated by tiers of Chicken Seed that you craft from Chicken Souls. Here's the path in the order the quests lead you through it.[2][4]
Step 1: Stick, chicken and roost
You start with "Chickens!!" quest, which asks for a Chicken Stick - Wrench and a Chicken. The stick is the wrench of the mod and it is also part of the Breeder and Soul Extractor recipes.[2][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: chicken_roost:craftingtable/chickenstickrecipe
The next quest, "Roost Ultimate" quest, wants a Roost, the block that holds your chicken.[2]
There's also a side quest, "Basic Dye Chickens" quest, which accepts any one of the colored chicken eggs, for example the Red Chicken Egg or the Blue Chicken Egg. The pack changed the black, blue, brown and white egg recipes, so don't assume the mod defaults there.[2][4]
Step 2: Three branches off the roost
Once you have a roost, three quests open up at the same time. You can do them in any order.[2]
- "Wireless Chickens" quest asks for a Roost Feeder and a Roost Collector. The pack changed both of these recipes.[2][4]
- "Breeding Chickens" quest asks for a Breeder. "Hitting The Gym" quest follows it and asks for the Chicken Trainer.[2]
- "Soul Extracting and Seeds" quest asks for a Soul Extractor and Chicken Seed Tier 1. This is the start of the seed and soul chain.[2]

Seeds and souls: the tier system
Tiers in this pack are mostly about Chicken Seed. Soul extraction recipes turn a chicken of a given tier into the matching Chicken Soul, and they cover Chicken Soul Tier 1 up to Chicken Soul Tier 8.[4]
You then combine a soul with the previous tier of seed and an extra material. The pack changed the seed recipes for tiers 1 through 8, and the higher tiers pull in materials from other mods. Chicken Seed Tier 9 is the exception: it uses the mod's own recipe and needs a Nether Star.[4]

The pack also adds Cloche recipes (Immersive Engineering's machine) that take a Tier 1 seed together with a soil. The soil can be plain dirt, Rich Soil, or one of the four Just Dire Things goo soils.[4]
Step 3: The chicken ladder
The rest of the chapter is a ladder of resource chickens. "A Good Starting Point" quest asks for the Iron Chicken. a quest in "Generating Resources" then asks for the Gold Chicken, and it needs both the iron quest and the soul extractor quest done first. After that, a quest in "Generating Resources" asks for the Diamond Chicken. It branches into a quest in "Generating Resources" for the Emerald Chicken and a quest in "Generating Resources" for the Netherite Chicken. The final quest, a quest in "Generating Resources", asks for the Nether Star Chicken.[2]
The pack adds a breeding recipe for each of these steps, from iron up to netherite. The Nether Star Chicken has its own crafting recipe, built on the Netherite Chicken.[4]

How does Roost Ultimate work with other mods?
5 parts
In this pack, Roost Ultimate connects to other mods almost entirely through recipes. Chicken seeds need ingredients from other mods, other machines can grow seeds or build special chickens, and the chickens' drops feed into the wider tech tree. The sections below cover each connection.[4]
Seed upgrades pull in other mods
The pack changed the crafting recipes that upgrade your chicken seeds, and from tier 3 upward each step needs something from another mod. Every step also needs the matching Chicken Soul tier and the previous seed tier. The recipes for tiers 3 to 8 are shown below.[4]

Roost outputs
The pack added roost output recipes that turn chickens from this mod into items from other mods. Each one needs seeds of a minimum tier or higher. Here is what you get:[4]
- The Dust Chicken gives Dust with tier 2 seeds or higher.[4]
- The Nickel Chicken gives Nickel Ingot with tier 3 seeds or higher.[4]
- With tier 4 seeds or higher, the Aluminium Chicken, Lead Chicken, Osmium Chicken, Fluorite Chicken and Black Quartz Chicken give Aluminum Ingot, Lead Ingot, Osmium Ingot, Fluorite Gem and Black Quartz.[4]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Roost Ultimate?
4 parts
Roost Ultimate shows up in two quest chapters in this pack. Almost all of it sits in the resource_generation chapter, which takes you from your first chicken to a Nether Star Chicken. The quests have no titles, so I'll refer to them by their IDs.[2][3]
Resource generation: the starting quests
Three quests have no prerequisites, so you can do them in any order. Quest "A Good Starting Point" quest asks you to get an Iron Chicken. Quest "Chickens!!" quest wants a Chicken Stick - Wrench and a Chicken. Quest "Craftable Tier 2 Chickens" quest accepts either a Water Chicken or a Lava Chicken.[2]
Building your roost setup
The chicken and stick quest unlocks two more. Quest "Roost Ultimate" quest asks for a Roost. Quest "Basic Dye Chickens" quest accepts any one of the colored chicken eggs, such as the Red Chicken Egg or Blue Chicken Egg.[2]
Once you have the Roost, three quests open up:[2]
- Quest "Wireless Chickens" quest asks for a Roost Feeder and a Roost Collector.[2]
- Quest "Breeding Chickens" quest asks for a Breeder. After it, quest "Hitting The Gym" quest asks for a Chicken Trainer.[2]
- Quest "Soul Extracting and Seeds" quest asks for a Soul Extractor and some Chicken Seed Tier 1. It has a third item task that the pack data doesn't name.[2]
The chicken progression
The rest of the chapter is a chain of chickens. Quest a quest in "Generating Resources" asks for a Gold Chicken. It needs both the Iron Chicken quest and the Soul Extractor quest finished first.[2]
- Quest a quest in "Generating Resources" asks for a Diamond Chicken, after the Gold Chicken quest.[2]
- Quest a quest in "Generating Resources" asks for a Netherite Chicken. It needs both the Gold Chicken and Diamond Chicken quests done.[2]
- Quest a quest in "Generating Resources" asks for a Emerald Chicken. It is a side branch that only needs the Diamond Chicken quest.[2]
- Quest a quest in "Generating Resources" asks for a Nether Star Chicken, after the Netherite Chicken quest.[2]
Bounty board
The bounty_board chapter has one quest that involves the mod, "Kill: Mighty Ender Chicken" quest. It has three tasks: a kill task, a Chicken Stick - Wrench, and a structure task.[3]
Unverified The pack data doesn't say what the kill and structure tasks of quest 34C8824842867F5D require, or what the third item in quest 70C02FCA0C7B8777 is, so check those in the in-game quest book.
Which Roost Ultimate config options matter?
4 parts
Roost Ultimate keeps nearly all of its gameplay settings in the server config. The values below are exactly what this pack sets. The sources here don't show the mod's own defaults, so I can't tell you which of these the pack changed.[6]
Machine speeds
Every speed option is measured in seconds. This is how the pack sets them:[6]
- roostspeed is 5, so the Roost production time is 5 seconds.[6]
- breederspeed is 15 for the breeding time.[6]
- trainerspeed is 15 for the training time.[6]
- soulextractspeed is 5 for soul extraction.[6]
- soulbreedspeed is 10 for soul breeding.[6]
Ranges and breeding
- collector_maxrange is 30, the Collector's max collecting range.[6]
- feeder_maxrange is 30, the Feeder's max feeding range.[6]
- enableboth is true. Breeder crafting works both ways, so it doesn't matter whether you put the chicken on the right or the left.[6]
- leveloutputsplit is 2. This is the level split for output in the Roost.[6]
XP and levelling
passivexp is 0 in this pack. It controls the passive XP gained while breeding or sitting inside the Roost, so with it at 0 you shouldn't expect any passive XP from those.[6]
The max level per tier is set by the level_tier_1 through level_tier_9 options. Every one of them is 128 in this pack.[6]
The seeds_tier options, in order from the first tier up:[6]
- seeds_tier_1 is 50.[6]
- seeds_tier_2 is 200.[6]
- seeds_tier_3 is 300.[6]
- seeds_tier_4 is 500.[6]
- seeds_tier_5 is 700.[6]
- seeds_tier_6 is 1,000.[6]
- seeds_tier_7 is 1,500.[6]
- seeds_tier_8 is 2,500.[6]
- seeds_tier_9 is 5,000.[6]
The xp_tier options, in order from the first tier up:[6]
- xp_tier_1 is 500.[6]
- xp_tier_2 is 2,000.[6]
- xp_tier_3 is 3,000.[6]
- xp_tier_4 is 6,250.[6]
- xp_tier_5 is 12,500.[6]
- xp_tier_6 is 25,000.[6]
- xp_tier_7 is 32,500.[6]
- xp_tier_8 is 40,000.[6]
- xp_tier_9 is 50,000.[6]
Client options
The client config only has colorblind-related options, and the pack leaves the per-machine toggles off. roost_cb, breeder_cb, trainer_cb and extractor_cb are each false.[7]
