What is PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

2 parts

PneumaticCraft: Repressurized is an industrial-themed tech mod with a unique power system, its own take on automation, and a very powerful armor set. Compressors are the power generators: they compress air into pressure, and that pressure drives many of the machines.[1][2][3]

This pack ships version 8.2.23 of the mod.[4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book has a chapter called "PneumaticCraft" in the "Tech Mods" group. It is chapter 31 of 31, so it is the last chapter in the book, and it holds 36 quests. The text of 13 of those quests is not covered here, so check the quest book for them.[5]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book for that.

The chapter opens with "Just A Little Pressure, Right?" quest, where you blow up iron ingots with TNT to get Compressed Iron Ingot. The mod's in-game guide describes the same start.[5][6]

How the chapter builds up

  1. "Pushing Pressure" quest and "Reinforced Stone" quest follow the first quest. They have you make Pressure Tube and Reinforced Stone.[5]
  2. "Generating Air Pressure" quest comes next and asks for the Air Compressor, one of the first and easiest ways to generate pressure.[5]
  3. Three quests branch off the compressor: "Charging Station" quest, "Precious Pressure" quest (the Pressure Chamber) and "Thermodynamics" quest (heat management).[5]
  4. The oil line runs from "The Search For Oil!" quest to "Refined Oil" quest and then "Thermopneumatic Processing Plant" quest. The oil quest warns that the Seismic Sensor is not very useful in this void world.[5]
  5. After the Thermopneumatic Processing Plant, the chapter opens up into "Fluid Mixer" quest, "Reinforced Pressure Tubes" quest, "Speed Upgrades" quest and "The Amadron Network" quest.[5]
  6. The Amadron quest leads to "Making Circuit Boards!" quest, then "Finished PCB" quest, and finally "I am (Compressed) Iron Man!" quest, the Pneumatic Armor quest.[5]
Tip: Charging Station also has side quests: "Charging Module" quest, "Camouflage Applicator" quest and "Minigun" quest all come right after "Charging Station" quest, so you can pick them up whenever you like.[5]

How do you get started with PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

4 parts

Welcome to PneumaticCraft! In this pack its quest book chapter sits in the Tech Mods group, as the last chapter in the book, and it opens with "Just A Little Pressure, Right?" quest. The mod adds no extra ores, so everything starts with plain iron.[5][7]

The first steps, in order

  1. Gather some iron and some stone. Around a stack of each is a good start, and you can use a bit less iron.[6]
  2. Throw your iron ingots on the ground and blow them up to get Compressed Iron Ingot. TNT works, but any explosion does the job. Step back first![5][7]
  3. Make some Pressure Tube. They carry compressed air, a bit like cables in other mods ("Pushing Pressure" quest).[5][6]
  4. Make some Reinforced Stone, the basis of most of the mod's machinery ("Reinforced Stone" quest).[5][6]
  5. Build a Pressure Chamber. It is the next real goal after tubes and Reinforced Stone.[6]
Watch out: The explosion costs you around 20% of your ingots. That initial loss is unavoidable, because you need some Compressed Iron Ingots just to craft the Pressure Chamber itself.[7]

Skip the explosions later

Once you have a Pressure Chamber, you can make Compressed Iron Ingots there without losing any. Note that the pack changed this recipe, so check the version below rather than relying on the mod's defaults.[7][8]

Compressed Iron IngotChanged by the pack

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: pneumaticcraft:pressure_chamber/compressed_iron_ingot

This Pressure Chamber recipe is changed by the pack.

Making your first air pressure

After the tubes and Reinforced Stone, the quest book has you read "Air Pressure 101" quest and then make an Air Compressor ("Generating Air Pressure" quest). Compressors are the machines that turn air into pressure, and the quest text says the basic one burns materials like coal or charcoal to feed your tube network. That quest also gifts you a Safety Tube Module, which its text says helps vent excess pressure while you learn.[2][5]

Watch out: The Pushing Pressure quest warns that tubes can explode if pressure climbs too high, and that air escapes through any hole in a closed network (you'll hear it rushing out). Its text says right-clicking with a Pneumatic Wrench closes the open section.[5]

Where to go next

Two quests follow the Air Compressor quest. "Charging Station" quest asks you to make the Charging Station, which its text says fills items with compressed air. "Precious Pressure" quest asks for Pressure Chamber Wall, and its text walks you through building the Pressure Chamber: the wall frame, the Pressure Chamber Interfaces, and compressed air pumped into a Pressure Chamber Valve.[5][9]

The faces of the chamber can use Pressure Chamber Glass instead of walls if you like the look.[5]

If you want a cheap early win, "Faster Farming!" quest follows your first Compressed Iron and asks for a Crop Support. In this pack machines.crop_sticks_growth_boost_chance is 0.002, which the config describes as the chance per tick of a Crop Support causing a growth tick, roughly 2.5 times faster than the vanilla growth rate.[5][10]

How does PneumaticCraft: Repressurized work?

7 parts

Everything in PneumaticCraft runs on compressed air. Compressors make it, tubes carry it, and every pressurizable machine or tool has a volume in mL. Pressure is worked out as P = (A / V) - 1, where V is the volume and A is the air currently inside the machine. A machine with a volume of 5,000 mL holding 20,000 mL of air sits at 3 bar. The mod uses 0 bar for normal atmospheric pressure.[11]

The key thing to remember is that machines consume air, not pressure. Pressure is only a function of the air currently stored and the volume. Many machines need a minimum pressure to start, but the work itself uses up air. Volume Upgrades make the pressure drop less each time air is used.[11]

Air flows from higher pressure to lower pressure and tries to balance out. Leave a tube or machine side unconnected and you get a big leak, which you can hear as hissing and see as particles. Push a machine too far and it explodes. The red zone on the gauge shows where explosions can happen, but the exact point is not predictable.[11]

Tip: Open any machine GUI and check the side tabs. Pressure Status shows the current pressure and the machine's volume, and the Problems tab tells you what is wrong when a machine will not work.[12]

Pressure tiers

The mod currently has three tiers of machine. Tier one resists 5 bar, tier one-point-five resists up to 10 bar, and tier two resists up to 20 bar. Tier 1.5 is an optional step that gives access to charging tools to 10 bar and to the Diamond Drill Bit, which allows 3x3 block breaking.[13]

The pack changes the Diamond Drill Bit recipe compared with the base mod, so use the one shown here.[8]

The Air Canister is the crafting component behind every pressurizable item. It has a volume of 3,000 mL and can be charged to 10 bar without exploding. Items crafted with a canister keep its air. The pack also changes this recipe.[8][14]

Making air

Compressors are the power generators of the mod. In this pack's config file, the compressor and generator settings are currently:[2][10]

All of those match the mod's default values. Speed Upgrades work the same way: each one multiplies machine speed by 1.5 (machines.speed_upgrade_speed_multiplier), and fuel use and heat generation also go up with each upgrade, as set by machines.speed_upgrade_usage_multiplier.[10]

Moving air and building the machines

Pressure Tubes are how you move compressed air around. The Advanced Pressure Tube is not made on a crafting grid in this pack. It comes from a recipe of the Assembly Laser type.[8][15]

Assembly Laser (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: pneumaticcraft:assembly/advanced_pressure_tube

The assembly line is made up of an Assembly Platform, Assembly Drill, Assembly Laser and Assembly IO Units, together with the Assembly Controller. The Netherite Drill Bit, for example, is made by the Assembly Drill from the Unassembled Netherite Drill Bit. You can also buy the Assembly Program: Drill through Amadron for 8 emeralds.[8][9]

The Pressure Chamber is the mod's main multiblock, built from parts such as the Pressure Chamber Wall and Pressure Chamber Valve. Early on you throw iron ingots on the ground and blow them up to get Compressed Iron, which loses around 20% of your ingots. A Pressure Chamber avoids that loss, but you need some Compressed Iron to build one first. Connecting a small machine to a big air capacity like the chamber results in a pressure build-up in the small machine.[6][7][9][11]

Heat

Heat spreads from hotter to colder blocks, and only between blocks that support heat. A bigger temperature difference means faster spread. Thermal resistance sets how quickly heat moves between objects, and thermal capacity sets how slowly a block's temperature changes. Air and torches have a high resistance, while Compressed Iron Blocks have a very low one.[16]

The pack's config file currently leaves the main heat settings at their mod defaults: air thermal resistance is 100, solid blocks 500 and fluid blocks 100, and fluid blocks have a heat capacity of 10,000.[10]

Tip: Machines lose heat to air if any face is exposed, which is very noticeable on the Refinery. Cover every face with a non-conducting block. It does not need to be a full block, as trapdoors and slabs work fine.[16]

A Vortex Tube turns pressure into heat and cold, and it is best to put a Heat Sink on its unused side. Heat Pipes move heat between blocks without touching the air around them. A vanilla Furnace next to a dynamic heat source such as the Vortex Tube or the Advanced Air Compressor burns heat instead of fuel. This starts at 100°C and speeds up as it gets hotter.[17]

Fuels and oil

Crude Oil is the only thing the mod generates in the world, and lakes are far more likely deep underground. It is refined into fuels for Liquid Compressors, and is also used to make Plastic and Lubricant. A Gas Lift is the recommended way to pump it. If you are pumping far from base, a Small Tank keeps its contents when broken, so it works as a simple way to carry oil.[18]

The pack runs a script that gives Liquid Compressor fuel values to many fluids from other mods. For each fluid it registers a fuel quality recipe where air per bucket is the fluid's value times one million, and the burn rate is 0.5 plus 0.15 times that value, capped at 3.0. The script skips Crude Oil, Diesel and Biodiesel from this mod. Per the pack's config file, fluids at least as hot as 373 K are also registered automatically as fuels (general.min_fluid_fuel_temperature).[10][19]

Automation and logistics

The Logistics System moves items and fluids and keeps inventories and tanks stocked. Moving things costs air, and the pack's config file currently has these logistics settings:[10][20]

The Liquid Hopper and Omnidirectional Hopper can put fluids and items into the world when they have a Dispenser Upgrade. Both options are currently on in this pack's config (machines.liquid_hopper_dispenser and machines.omni_hopper_dispenser). A Liquid Hopper above a Gas Lift is the way the guide shows pulling oil out.[10][18]

If you have ComputerCraft or OpenComputers installed, almost every machine and Drone can be driven as a peripheral. For example, every machine gives you getPressure(), and OpenComputers needs an Adapter to connect.[21]

Chunk loading

If machines should keep working while you are away, they must be chunkloaded. Keep a build inside chunk boundaries and keep multiblocks like the Pressure Chamber inside a single chunk. Partly loaded builds behave unpredictably. Security Upgrades in machines prevent explosions if loading or performance goes wrong.[22]

The Programmable Controller offers some chunkloading itself. In this pack's config file, drones and controllers can chunkload indefinitely after their owner logs out (drones.chunkload_offline_time is 0), and drones may not navigate or teleport into unloaded chunks.[10][22]

How do you progress through PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

6 parts

The quest book puts PneumaticCraft in the Tech Mods group, as chapter 31 of 31, with 36 quests. It opens with "Just A Little Pressure, Right?" quest and works outward from there. Here is the order the quests take you in.[5]

Tier 1: compressed iron and basic pressure

The first quest asks for a Compressed Iron Ingot and tells you to blow up iron ingots with TNT. The mod's own guide says you lose around 20% of the ingots that way. Crafting them in a Pressure Chamber avoids the loss, but you need some compressed iron to build the chamber, so a little early loss is unavoidable.[5][7]

Compressed Iron IngotChanged by the pack

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: pneumaticcraft:pressure_chamber/compressed_iron_ingot

The pack changed this recipe from the mod default.

Two quests unlock right after it. "Faster Farming!" quest asks for the Crop Support, and its text says it speeds up the growth of crops and trees planted on it. "Pushing Pressure" quest asks for the Pressure Tube, which the mod's guide describes as how you move compressed air around.[5][15]

After the tubes, "Reinforced Stone" quest asks for Reinforced Stone, which its text calls the basis of most machinery, and "Air Pressure 101" quest is a checkmark concept quest. Both lead to "Generating Air Pressure" quest, which asks for the Air Compressor. Its text says it burns materials like coal or charcoal to generate pressure, and the guide describes compressors as the power generators of the mod.[2][5]

Watch out: The tubes quest warns that pressure beyond 5 BAR is the danger zone and that tubes explode at 7.0 BAR. It also says air escapes from any hole in a network, and you will hear it rushing out. The mod's guide lists tier one machines as nominally resisting 5 bar.[5][13]

Once you have a compressor, the quest book branches three ways:[5]

Oil, plastic and the 10 BAR step

"The Search For Oil!" quest comes after the Pressure Chamber quest. It asks for crude oil and a Seismic Sensor. The quest text warns that plastic methods from other mods can trivialize this part, and it lists oil sources such as Oily Bees, the Amadron Tablet, the Pumpjack and the Oil Drilling Rig. Then "Refined Oil" quest asks for the Refinery Controller. Its text says the refinery needs heat and suggests putting it over a lava source and covering the faces with thermal lagging.[5]

"Thermopneumatic Processing Plant" quest needs both Refined Oil and Precious Pressure. Its text says the machine cracks heavy fuels into lighter ones and that running LPG or biodiesel through it gives Molten Plastic. It opens four quests at once: "Fluid Mixer" quest, "Reinforced Pressure Tubes" quest, "Speed Upgrades" quest and "The Amadron Network" quest.[5]

The Fluid Mixer quest points out that crude oil isn't renewable, so biodiesel from plant or vegetable oil is a better way of automating plastic. The pack changed the biodiesel recipe the mixer uses, and the biodiesel it outputs is the Modern Industrialization one.[5][8]

The Reinforced Pressure Tubes quest says they handle up to 10 BAR, so match your machines to the pressure before you connect them. The mod's guide currently lists three pressure tiers, and describes tier one-point-five, which resists up to 10 bar, as an optional middle tier.[5][13]

Thermo Plant (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: pneumaticcraft:thermo_plant/reinforced_pressure_tube

Plastic Sheet has many sources in this pack. Several Oritech recipes that make it, such as smelting or blasting Polymer Resin, are marked as changed by the pack.[8]

Amadron and circuit boards

In "The Amadron Network" quest you cool Molten Plastic into Molten Plastic and craft the Amadron Tablet. The quest says to link it to an inventory and keep it charged. The Assembly Program: Laser is also an Amadron offer in this pack. "Automating Amadron" quest comes after the tablet quest and covers automating Amadron trades with an ME system.[5][8]

After the Finished PCB

The Finished PCB opens four quests at once:[5]

Tier 2: 20 bar

The mod's guide currently lists three pressure tiers. Tier one machines nominally resist 5 bar, tier one-point-five machines resist up to 10 bar, and tier two machines resist up to 20 bar.[13]

In the quest line, "Advanced Pressure Tubes" quest comes after the Assembly Line. The quest says the Advanced Pressure Tube has its danger zone at 20 Bar, explodes at 25 Bar and carries 4 times the volume. The pack's recipe for it is an Assembly Line laser recipe.[5][8]

Assembly Laser (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: pneumaticcraft:assembly/advanced_pressure_tube

"Aerial Interface" quest also follows the Assembly Line. Three quests follow Advanced Pressure Tubes: "Pressurize Your System With The Sun!" quest, "Turning Pressure Into FE" quest and "Flux Compressor" quest. The guide calls the Advanced Air Compressor the tier 2 compressor with a maximum safe pressure of 20 bar. It must be cooled, because its efficiency drops as it heats up.[5][24]

The Pina Colada chapter has "Sculk Powder" quest, which asks for the Thermopneumatic Processing Plant, and a quest in "Pina Colada", which asks for an Assembly Controller.[25]

How does PneumaticCraft: Repressurized work with other mods?

5 parts

PneumaticCraft hooks into a lot of the pack's other tech mods, and plastic is the main bridge. Lots of recipes in the pack either make Plastic Sheet from another mod's machines or use it as an ingredient elsewhere. Here's where the crossovers show up.[8]

Plastic from other mods

The pack changed several Oritech centrifuge recipes so they produce Molten Plastic, and Oritech's Polymer Resin can also be smelted or blasted into it, again through pack-changed recipes.[8]

Productive Metalworks joins in too: the pack adds a melting recipe that turns an Block of Plastic into 810 Plastic Sheet worth of material, and there's a casting recipe that uses an Ingot Cast.[8]

Plastic Sheet then goes back out into other mods. The pack changed the Modern Industrialization recipe for Random Access Memory so it takes 500 Plastic Sheet.[8]

Tip: The oil quest in the PneumaticCraft chapter warns that plastic generation methods from other mods may trivialize the oil part of the progression. It also says other mods can help you get the Amadron Tablet early, so you can buy oil delivered to a tank.[5]

Biodiesel and dough

The pack changed the Fluid Mixer recipe for biodiesel so it gives you Modern Industrialization's Biodiesel along with a Drop of Glycerol. The Fluid Mixer quest points out that crude oil isn't renewable, so biodiesel from plant oil is a better way to automate plastic.[5][8]

Most of the other quests in the chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[5]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

2 parts

The quest book places the main PneumaticCraft chapter in the Tech Mods group, as chapter 31 of 31, with 36 quests. Its quests start with pressure basics, move on to oil and plastic, then circuit boards, and finish with assembly line, armor, drone and tube quests.[5]

The main chapter, in order

  1. "Just A Little Pressure, Right?" quest is the first quest and asks you to obtain Compressed Iron Ingot. The quest text tells you to blow up iron ingots in the world with TNT.[5]
  2. Two quests follow it. "Faster Farming!" quest asks for the Crop Support, and "Pushing Pressure" quest asks for the Pressure Tube. The tubes quest text warns that pressure beyond 5 BAR is the danger zone and that tubes explode at 7.0 BAR.[5]
  3. After the tubes come "Reinforced Stone" quest, which asks for Reinforced Stone, and "Air Pressure 101" quest, a checkmark quest whose text explains air pressure.[5]
  4. "Generating Air Pressure" quest comes after both of those. It asks for the Air Compressor, and its text says you are gifted a Safety Tube Module for your first pressure system.[5]
  5. Three quests come after the compressor quest: "Charging Station" quest (asks for the Charging Station), "Precious Pressure" quest (asks for the Pressure Chamber Wall) and "Thermodynamics" quest (asks for Thermal Lagging).[5]
  6. "Charging Module" quest, "Camouflage Applicator" quest and "Minigun" quest come after the charging station quest. "Heat Sink" quest and "Vortex Tube" quest come after the thermodynamics quest.[5]
  7. The oil line starts at "The Search For Oil!" quest, which comes after the pressure chamber quest. It asks for a Crude Oil bucket from Modern Industrialization and the Seismic Sensor. Its text says the sensor is not much use in this void and points you to a tips page for other ways to get oil.[5]
  8. "Refined Oil" quest asks for the Refinery Controller and the Refinery Output. Then "Thermopneumatic Processing Plant" quest asks for the Thermopneumatic Processing Plant.[5]
  9. Four quests come after the processing plant quest: "Fluid Mixer" quest, "Reinforced Pressure Tubes" quest, "Speed Upgrades" quest and "The Amadron Network" quest. The reinforced tubes quest text mentions 10 BAR, and the Amadron quest asks for Molten Plastic and the Amadron Tablet.[5]
  10. "Making Circuit Boards!" quest comes after the Amadron quest and asks for the PCB Blueprint, UV Light Box and Empty PCB. "Automating Amadron" quest also comes after the Amadron quest. Its text covers automating trades through an ME system with the Amadron Wireless Terminal and the Amadron Processing Station.[5]
  11. "Etching PCBs" quest asks for Etching Acid Bucket and the Etching Tank. Next is "Finished PCB" quest, which asks for the Finished PCB.[5]
  12. Four quests come after the Finished PCB quest: "Assembly Line" quest (asks for the assembly line parts), "I am (Compressed) Iron Man!" quest (asks for the four Pneumatic armor pieces), "Expanding Capabilities!" quest and "Automating Drones to Farm!" quest.[5]
  13. The drone line continues with "Harvesting Crops with Drones" quest and then a second "Harvesting Crops with Drones" quest. Both ask for the Drone. Their text walks you through programming a harvesting drone, then a collector drone.[5]
  14. "Advanced Pressure Tubes" quest and "Aerial Interface" quest come after the assembly line quest. The tubes quest text mentions 20 Bar and 25 Bar. Three more quests come after the tubes quest: "Pressurize Your System With The Sun!" quest, "Turning Pressure Into FE" quest and "Flux Compressor" quest.[5]

PneumaticCraft in other chapters

Some quests in other chapters use PneumaticCraft items too. In the Pina Colada chapter, a quest in "Pina Colada" accepts either a Pressure Chamber Valve or an Implosion Compressor. "Sculk Powder" quest needs the Thermopneumatic Processing Plant, and its text says you need to progress through PneumaticCraft to automate it. a quest in "Pina Colada" asks for the Assembly Controller to make Pineapple Chunks.[25]

In the Bounty Board chapter, "Modern Circuitry" quest asks for a Finished PCB. In the M.I.: High Voltage chapter, "Ethanol" quest asks for the Ethanol Bucket. "Sulfuric Crude Oil" quest there offers the processing plant as one way to handle Sulfuric Crude Oil. Sixteen of that chapter's 70 quests are not covered here, so check the quest book for those.[26][27]

Which PneumaticCraft: Repressurized config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

PneumaticCraft has a lot of config options, but you only need a handful. Every option shown in this pack's config files that lists a mod default is set to exactly that default, so for those the mod's normal behaviour applies. Here are the ones you're most likely to care about.[28][29]

Air and machines

Combat and drones

Survival and safety

Client options

The Programmer GUI is set to the EASY widget set (general.programmer_difficulty), so switch to MEDIUM or ADVANCED if you want more widgets. Pneumatic Armor shows pressure as numbers rather than a bar (armor.show_pressure_numerically). The Coordinate Tracker pathfinder is turned off in this pack (armor.path_enabled).[28]

Watch out: Leave sound.air_leak_volume alone. It's set to 1, and the config warns that turning it off could leave you with undetected leaks that waste pressure forever.[28]

What changed in PneumaticCraft: Repressurized between versions?

5 parts

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships PneumaticCraft: Repressurized 8.2.23. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier.[4]

The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs for releases 8.2.21, 8.2.22 and 8.2.23, so you can see what changed in the version you're playing. The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod.[30][31][32]

8.2.23 (the version in the pack)

  • Fixed PneumaticCraft machine blocks dropping their contents and upgrades when they are assembled into a Sable sublevel.[31]

8.2.21

This release added a lot of new features, plus a few fixes.[32]

  • The Liquid Hopper can absorb Experience Orbs when it has a Dispenser Upgrade installed, and converts them to Memory Essence fluid.[32]
  • The Jackhammer GUI has a new toggle button that prevents insta-breaking blocks. It's handy if you have a fast drill bit and many speed upgrades, and want to avoid accidents in your base.[32]
  • The Elytra Upgrade in the Pneumatic Chestplate no longer activates when you tap Space if you are currently in Jet Boots builder mode.[32]
  • Sculk Sensors now detect player movement when you are off the ground using Jet Boots. You can also hack them with the Pneumatic Armor to disable them for 10 seconds.[32]
  • The Programmer GUI now highlights the connection lines between jump and label widgets when you hover over them.[32]
  • There was a significant internal rework of the Elevator, which fixes a number of issues.[32]
  • Translations: the pt_br translation was updated and an fr_fr translation was added.[32]

New Drone widget

Drones get a new Condition: Dimension programming widget. It lets a Drone detect which dimension it is in and branch its program accordingly.[32]

Watch out: Drones that don't have a Condition: Dimension widget in their program may no longer change dimension, for example through a Nether portal. If an older Drone stops travelling, check its program.[32]

Other 8.2.21 fixes

  • Fixed a bug that made the Thermopneumatic Processing Plant sometimes not require pressure for recipes that should require it.[32]
  • Fixed a Thermopneumatic Processing Plant JEI issue that appeared when a recipe's input and output fluid amounts differ by a factor of more than 64.[32]
  • Hopefully fixed an occasional crash in drone pathfinding.[32]
