What is Industrial Foregoing?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing is an automation mod with a machine for almost everything you'd normally do by hand. This pack includes version 1.21-3.6.38. If you like building farms, wiring up factories and letting them run while you explore, this is the mod for you.[1][2]

Getting started

Your first goal is latex. Place a Fluid Extractor in front of a log to collect it, then run it through a Latex Processing Unit with water and power to make rubber. Power is optional on the extractor, but it makes it work faster.[1][14][15]

The in-game guide calls getting Plastic one of the most important things in this mod, so make sure you master it early.[16]

Where it fits in the quests

The Industrial Foregoing quest chapter starts with the Pity Machine Frame ("Welcome To Industrial Foregoing!" quest), followed by the Fluid Extractor ("Extracting Latex" quest) and the Latex Processing Unit ("Processing Latex Into Plastic" quest). After that the chapter opens into a wide set of basic machines, such as the Mob Slaughter Factory, Block Breaker and Dissolution Chamber.[17]

The Dissolution Chamber leads to the Simple Machine Frame and to the addon quests for range, speed, efficiency and processing. The Advanced Machine Frame comes after the Simple Machine Frame and the Pink Slime quest, and it unlocks the heavier machines: Mob Crusher, Mob Duplicator, Potion Brewer, the enchantment machines and the laser setups. The Supreme Machine Frame comes after the Fluid Laser Base quest, and the Wither Builder follows it.[17]

Power has its own chapter, where the quests ask you to craft the mycelial generators, such as the Ender Mycelial Generator and Magma Mycelial Generator. The Mycelial Reactor needs one working instance of each generator at the same time, so it's a late-game power goal.[11][18]

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing?

3 parts

Welcome to Industrial Foregoing! The mod's own guide says getting plastic is one of the most important things here, so master it early. The path below follows the order of the quest chapter, and every recipe shown is the in-pack version, which the pack has changed from the mod defaults.[16][17][19]

Step by step

  1. Start with the Pity Machine Frame. "Welcome To Industrial Foregoing!" quest is the first quest in the chapter, and many machine recipes in this pack use this frame as their base.[17][19]
  2. Make the Fluid Extractor ("Extracting Latex" quest). Place it in front of a log and it pulls out latex. Power is optional, but supplying it makes the machine work faster.[1][14][17]
  3. Make the Latex Processing Unit ("Processing Latex Into Plastic" quest). It turns latex and water into rubber, and it needs some power to run.[1][17]
  4. Get plastic. It goes into many machine recipes in this pack, so it is the real gate for everything that follows.[16][19]
  5. Build the Dissolution Chamber ("Crafting With Fluids" quest). It crafts with up to 8 items and 1 fluid, all recipes are shapeless, and once a recipe is present it locks the slots.[17][20]

Machine frames: your progression ladder

After the Dissolution Chamber, the quests send you to the Simple Machine Frame ("Simple Machine Frame" quest). In this pack it is made in the Dissolution Chamber from a Pity frame.[17][19]

The Advanced Machine Frame ("Advanced Machine Frame" quest) comes next. It requires both the Simple frame quest and the Pink Slime Bucket quest ("Pink Slime" quest). Pink Slime comes from the Mob Slaughter Factory, which turns mobs and animals into Liquid Meat and Pink Slime. Passive mobs give more pink slime than non-passive ones.[17][19][23]

Tip: The Dissolution Chamber also unlocks the addon quests for range, speed, efficiency and processing. Tier 1 and tier 2 speed addons give +1 and +2 progress per tick, and the efficiency addons cut operation time by 10% and 20%.[17][24]

The farming and utility machines, such as the Plant Sower, Animal Rancher and Block Breaker, unlock from a quest outside this chapter. Most of their recipes use the Pity frame, so you can branch out as soon as you have plastic.[17][19]

How does Industrial Foregoing work?

8 parts

Industrial Foregoing is a big collection of machines that automate most of what you do by hand in Minecraft. The mod's own guide says getting plastic is one of the most important things to master, so sort that out early. The usual starting point is to put a Fluid Extractor in front of a log to collect latex, then feed that latex and water into a Latex Processing Unit.[1][14][16]

The Latex Processing Unit uses 750 mB of latex and 500 mB of water to make 1 dry rubber. The Fluid Extractor works without power, but giving it power makes it faster.[14][15]

Addons: range, speed, efficiency, processing

Most machines take addons, and each one changes a different part of how the machine works. Not every machine accepts range addons.[24]

  • Range: raises the size of the working area on machines that have one. Each tier adds 1.[24]
  • Speed: raises how much the progress bar advances every tick. Tier 1 gives +1 and tier 2 gives +2.[24]
  • Efficiency: cuts the ticks needed to finish an operation. Tier 1 gives -10% and tier 2 gives -20%.[24]
  • Processing: raises the number of operations done each time the machine finishes processing. Tier 1 gives +1 and tier 2 gives +2.[24]

Power and timing in this pack

Machines run on FE and have an internal buffer. The pack sets the buffer for most of the farming and husbandry machines to 10,000 FE. Each machine also has a cooldown measured in ticks, where 20 ticks is one second. The pack has changed several of these values from the mod's defaults.[25]

  • Animal Baby Separator, Animal Feeder and Animal Rancher: 400 FE per operation with a 100-tick cooldown (5 seconds). The Animal Feeder stops working when the area holds 35 animals, set by MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.AnimalFeederConfig.maxAnimalInTheArea.[25]
  • Mob Crusher: the pack uses a 100-tick cooldown, where the file's comment lists a default of 50. It uses 50 FE per tick, where the comment lists a default of 40. Its essence tank holds 32,000 mB.[25]
  • Mob Duplicator: the pack uses a 62-tick cooldown (comment default: 100), 5,000 FE per operation and a 50,000 FE buffer. The comments list 400 FE and 10,000 FE as the defaults. It needs 12 essence per point of the mob's health, and MachineAgricultureHusbandryConfig.MobDuplicatorConfig.exactCopy is false.[25]
  • Plant Fertilizer: 50-tick cooldown and 1,000 FE per operation. The comments list defaults of 100 ticks and 400 FE.[25]
  • Plant Gatherer: 40-tick cooldown (comment default: 100) and 400 FE per operation.[25]
  • Plant Sower: 40-tick cooldown (comment default: 100) and 1,000 FE per operation.[25]
  • Sewage Composter: 100-tick cooldown and 40 FE per tick.[25]

Some other machines have costs listed in the in-game guide. The Block Breaker, Block Placer and Fluid Collector each use 1000 RF per operation, and the Dye Mixer uses 30 RF/t.[26][27][28][29]

Making power with biofuel

The Bioreactor turns water plus seeds, saplings, dyes and even skulls into biofuel. The more different item types you put in, the more each item gives. One item type gives 80 mB. Four different types give 110 mB per item, for 440 mB in total.[30]

The Biofuel Generator burns that biofuel for 160 RF/t. It stops consuming fuel when its internal buffer is full, so it does not waste fuel. Biofuel is also used in Infinity Tools. The Pififul Generator is the opposite: it keeps burning fuel even when its buffer is full.[10][31][32]

The farming and fluid chain

Many farming machines pass fluids to each other. The Plant Gatherer chops trees and harvests crops, and each operation makes a little sludge. It stores up to 8,000 mB of sludge and 1,000 mB of ether. The Sludge Refiner turns sludge into something useful, but it needs 1000 RF/t, so have plenty of power stored.[8][25][33]

If the Plant Gatherer has a small amount of ether, it replants crops automatically. Without ether it breaks crops even if you could harvest them by right-clicking. When it starts on a tree, it keeps going through every log or leaf connected to the base log.[8]

The Sewer collects sewage from animals and experience and turns it into essence. It has an 8,000 mB sewage tank and an 8,000 mB essence tank. The Sewage Composter then turns sewage into fertilizer, which works like bone meal. The Plant Fertilizer accepts both bone meal and this fertilizer.[7][25][34][35][36]

Watch out: The Plant Fertilizer keeps fertilizing one crop until it can't accept any more bone meal. It can therefore get stuck on plants that always accept it, such as sunflowers, or on plants that never reach their final growth stage.[7]

The Plant Sower has 9 internal slots, colour coded to match markings on top of the machine. Its working area is split into 9 matching segments, and each segment only gets seeds from its own slot.[9]

Mob and animal machines

The Animal Rancher shears sheep and milks cows. It has an 8,000 mB tank. The Animal Feeder feeds animals so they breed, as long as you supply the right feeding item. The Animal Baby Separator teleports baby animals to the back of the machine, and you choose which mob types it moves in the GUI.[4][5][25][37]

The Mob Crusher kills mobs as if a player did it, and drops come straight from the mob's loot pool. In its default mode it also produces essence. In its alternate mode it makes no essence, but it uses essence to give each kill a random chance of looting at any level. The Mob Duplicator spawns mobs from a Mob Imprisonment Tool when it has power and essence, and it stops when too many entities are nearby.[6][38][39]

In this pack, ItemCoreConfig.MobImprisonmentToolConfig.onlyOwnerCanCapture is false. That means the tool isn't limited to the player who tamed an animal.[40]

Moving items and fluids

The Conveyor Belt carries items, entities and fluids. Items and entities can go up and down, but fluids can only go horizontally. You can colour a conveyor by right-clicking it with a dye. Glowstone makes conveyors much faster, and plastic stops items on top from being picked up.[41]

Item and Fluid Transporters move things between inventories that are 1 block away. You need a transporter on both the extraction side and the insertion side. Several transporter types can share one block, and you switch between insertion and extraction mode by right-clicking the middle area. You can filter with blacklist or whitelist modes, and a regulator mode lets you set how much an inventory may hold. Speed addons make a transporter faster, and efficiency addons make it transfer more. Sneak and right-click a transporter to remove it or its upgrades.[43][44]

Crafting and enchanting machines

The Dissolution Chamber crafts from up to 8 items and 1 fluid, and it can output items, fluids or both. All its recipes are shapeless, so slot order doesn't matter. Once a recipe is present, the machine locks all its slots so nothing else can be inserted.[20]

The enchantment machines are built around essence. The Enchantment Applicator works like an anvil but pays with essence instead of experience, and it can pull from the tank on top if the cost is too big. The Enchantment Extractor moves enchantments from items into books, or turns them into essence. The Enchantment Factory enchants an item at level 30 when given a lot of essence. The Enchantment Sorter separates enchanted items from unenchanted ones.[12][13][38][45][46]

Laser drills and generators that work together

A Laser Drill with power charges the first Ore Laser Base and Fluid Laser Base it finds in its working area. Once an Ore Laser Base is fully charged it produces ores, weighted by biome and mining depth. Laser lenses raise the weight of an ore. A Fluid Laser Base needs a specific catalyst that isn't consumed, and it also depends on biome and depth. The guide says to check JEI for the exact values.[47][48][49]

The Mycelial Reactor only produces its large amount of FE when one of each mycelial generator is running at the same time.[11]

Unverified The sources don't give the exact multiblock layouts, ore or fluid weights, or the full list of what each machine accepts. Check JEI in game for those. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing?

7 parts

Industrial Foregoing in this pack is a ladder of machine frames, and the whole ladder runs on plastic. The in-game guide calls getting plastic one of the most important things in the mod. The pack's changed recipes back that up, because many of the machines you build along the way call for plastic.[16][19]

Getting plastic

The pack adds its own Dissolution Chamber recipe that turns Latex and a Mekanism HDPE Sheet into Plastic.[19]

Plastic also shows up as a quest task in the oritech and pncr chapters, so other quest lines touch it too.[21][22]

Unverified The Dissolution Chamber's own pack recipe asks for plastic, while the recipe above needs a Dissolution Chamber. The sources I have don't show how you get your first plastic, so check JEI or the quest descriptions in your world. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Tier 1: Pity frame and latex

The Industrial Foregoing quest chapter starts at "Welcome To Industrial Foregoing!" quest, which asks for the Pity Machine Frame. Next come the Fluid Extractor and then the Latex Processing Unit. The pack changed the Pity Machine Frame recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod.[17][19]

The Fluid Extractor pulls latex out of logs placed in front of it, and power is optional: it just makes the machine work faster.[14]

Tier 2: Basic machines

After a shared earlier quest, the chapter opens up a whole batch of basic machines. Many of their pack recipes use a plastic and a Pity Machine Frame, for example the Animal Rancher, Block Breaker and Mob Slaughter Factory.[17][19]

Tier 3: Simple frame and addons

The Simple Machine Frame quest follows the Dissolution Chamber quest, and in the pack the frame is made in the Dissolution Chamber itself.[17][19]

The Dissolution Chamber quest also unlocks four addon quests. Each accepts any tier of its addon, and every addon recipe in the pack starts from latex.[17][19]

Tier 4: Advanced frame

"Advanced Machine Frame" quest asks for the Advanced Machine Frame, and it waits on both the Simple frame quest and the Pink Slime Bucket quest. That is why you visit the slaughter factory first.[17][50]

The Laser Drill charges the first Ore Laser Base and Fluid Laser Base it finds in its working area. The pack makes the blue and purple lenses in the Dissolution Chamber, from latex, a dye and glass panes.[19][47]

Tier 5: Supreme frame and beyond

The Fluid Laser Base quest leads to "Supreme Machine Frame" quest, the Supreme Machine Frame, and also to the Hydroponic Bed. The Supreme frame recipe uses Ether Gas, which the Fluid Laser Base produces when placed right on top of a Wither.[17][19][51]

The last quest in the machine chapter is the Wither Builder. According to the in-game guide it builds the wither spawning structure when supplied with power, 3 Wither Skulls and 4 soulsand.[17][52]

The power track

Power has its own quest chapter. It starts with the Bioreactor and then the Biofuel Generator. The in-game guide says that generator makes 160RF/t from Biofuel.[10][18]

The chapter also has a quest for each mycelial generator, such as Ender Mycelial Generator and Frosty Mycelial Generator. The Mycelial Reactor quest comes after all of them. The in-game guide explains why: the reactor detects the other mycelial generators, and one of each needs to be working at the same time.[11][18]

How does Industrial Foregoing work with other mods?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing is built around plastic, and in this pack a lot of the other tech mods plug straight into that. The rest of the links come from the Laser Drill, a few fluid recipes, and a couple of pack-made crafts. Everything below comes from in-pack recipes and quests.[16][19]

Plastic from other mods

The mod's own guide calls getting Plastic one of the most important things to master, so it helps that this pack lets you make it in several ways. The pack adds a recipe in the Dissolution Chamber that turns Latex plus a Mekanism HDPE Sheet into plastic.[16][19]

9× PlasticAdded by the pack

Dissolution Chamber (industrialforegoing)

Recipe id: ftb:industrialforegoing/dissolution_chamber/hdpe_to_plastic

Oritech can also make Industrial Foregoing plastic, and the pack changed those recipes. The Oritech centrifuge makes it from water or Mineral Slurry combined with Polymer Resin or Raw Biopolymer. You can also smelt or blast Polymer Resin into it.[19]

PneumaticCraft and Productive Metalworks plug in too. An Oritech cooler recipe converts a PneumaticCraft Molten Plastic sheet into Industrial Foregoing plastic. Productive Metalworks has a casting recipe that does the same with that sheet and an Ingot Cast.[19]

Plastic also shows up as a quest task outside the mod's own chapter. One quest in the Oritech chapter asks for it, and "The Amadron Network" quest in the PneumaticCraft chapter asks for it alongside the Amadron Tablet.[21][22]

Laser Drill ores and oil

The Laser Drill is the biggest bridge to other mods. Each lens color selects what the drill pulls out, and the pack points many of them at ores from other mods. Most of these recipes are changes the pack made to the mod's defaults. Quests for the Ore Laser Base and Laser Drill sit in this guide's quest chapter, and the Ore Laser Base also has its own quest in the Resources and You chapter, "Ore Laser Base" quest.[17][19][53]

The oil recipe is a fluid one rather than an ore one. The quest for the Fluid Laser Base asks for a Laser Drill and a purple lens as well.[17][19]

Power and fuel

Oritech's centrifuge has a pack-changed recipe that combines Biofuel with Fluxite to make Turbofuel (Turbofuel).[19]

Pack-made crafts

The pack adds a Dissolution Chamber recipe for Dissolved Potential. It pulls together ingredients from Apotheosis, Malum, Oritech and Powah. It also needs Pink Slime and vanilla sculk.[19]

Dissolved PotentialAdded by the pack

The pack's Refined Storage Machine Casing recipe uses the Pity Machine Frame, a Sky Steel Ingot and Quartz Enriched Iron.[19]

Productive Bees

Productive Bees has recipes that use Industrial Foregoing fluids, and the pack changed them. An Ether Gas Bucket converts into an Ether Gas bee, and Pink Slime converts into a Pink Slimy bee. A Productive Bees centrifuge recipe also turns Ether Gas into Wax.[19]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Industrial Foregoing?

3 parts

Industrial Foregoing shows up in the quest chapters industrial_foregoing, power, oritech, pncr and resources_and_you. Every quest here is untitled, so I point to each one by its ID and the item it asks for. All the tasks listed below are item tasks.[17][18][21][22][53]

The industrial_foregoing chapter

This is the main chapter. It opens with a short chain, then fans out into a tree of machines that ends at the Wither Builder.[17]

The power chapter

This chapter is about generators. Most of its quests have no prerequisite, so you can take them in any order. They ask for the Bioreactor ("Bioreactor" quest) and a long list of mycelial generators, for example "Ender Mycelial Generator" quest for the Ender Mycelial Generator and "Death Mycelial Generator" quest for the Death Mycelial Generator.[18]

"Biofuel Generator" quest asks for the Biofuel Generator and comes after the Bioreactor quest. The last quest, "Mycelial Reactor" quest, asks for the Mycelial Reactor and comes after all of the mycelial generator quests in the chapter.[18]

Which Industrial Foregoing config options matter?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing ships with a lot of config files, and this pack changes quite a few machine values. The files below list a default next to many options, so you can see exactly what the pack tweaked. Here are the ones you're most likely to feel in play.[25][54][55][56][57]

Speed and power changes

Generators

  • Biofuel Generator: it stores 1,000,000 FE (default listed as 10,000), and its biofuel tank holds 4,000 mB instead of 8,000. It produces 160 FE per tick (default listed as 400), and extraction is capped at 500 FE/t.[55]
  • Pitiful Generator: it stores 100,000 FE (default listed as 10,000), produces 30 FE per tick, and extracts 1,000 FE/t.[55]

Tank sizes

Several tanks were enlarged to 16,000 mB from the 8,000 mB default: the Dissolution Chamber output, both tanks on the Latex Processing Unit, the Water Condensator, the Fluid Collector output, the Fluid Placer input and the Resourceful Furnace essence tank. Some went the other way. The Fluid Extractor's latex tank is 1,000 mB, the Spore Recreator's water tank is 1,000 mB, and the Mechanical Dirt's meat tank is 4,000 mB.[54][57]

Toggles

Unverified Some default notes in these files look copy-pasted between machines (for example, the Latex Processing Unit's power comment lists 400 FE). Treat the pack values above as reliable and the listed defaults as unconfirmed.

What changed in Industrial Foregoing between versions?

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Industrial Foregoing version 1.21-3.6.38. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for its whole run.[2]

The pack runs the latest of the mod releases I have changelogs for: 1.21-3.6.38, with earlier entries for 1.21-3.6.37, 1.21-3.6.36 and 1.21-3.6.34.[2][59][60][61][62]

Unverified What actually changed in each of those mod releases is unverified, because the changelog sources I was given only name the versions and don't include the entries themselves. I also have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say whether any FTB Skies 2 release changed its recipes or values.
