What is The Undergarden?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
The Undergarden adds a dark underground dimension that sits deep below the Overworld's bedrock. Plants there have adapted to the darkness and grow anywhere, with no light needed. The locals are strange creatures, and they are plagued by the Rotspawn, invasive monsters from a chaotic, mysterious realm. If you enjoy exploring a whole new world, building in it and surviving whatever lives there, this mod is for you.[1]
- 15 biomes to explore, plus 1 dungeon.[1]
- Over 10 unique entities and over 10 music tracks.[1]
- Ores with special properties when you turn them into tools and weapons.[1]
- 4 special potion effects, and over 10 advancements to guide you along the way.[1]
Getting there
Your ticket in is the Catalyst. Build a frame shaped like a Nether portal from Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks, then right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to light it. Once you've been down there, bricks made from Undergarden materials work for the frame too.[1]
In the pack, the Undergarden quest chapter starts with a quest in "?", which asks you to get the Catalyst. That makes it the natural first goal.[2]
Where it fits in All the Mods 10
All the Mods 10 4.5 ships The Undergarden 0.9.3 for Minecraft 1.21.1.[3]
The pack's Undergarden chapter works like a tour of the dimension. It has quests for the local food and plants, such as Underbeans, Blisterberry and Gloomgourd, plus saplings, mushrooms and the Slingshot. It also covers the four metals: Cloggrum Ingot, Froststeel Ingot, Utherium Crystal and Forgotten Ingot, each followed by quests for its tools or armor.[2]
Those materials also count toward the pack's general progression. The basic armor chapter includes quests for Cloggrum, Froststeel and Utherium armor sets. It also asks for Regalium Crystal and the Undergarden ingots and crystals.[4]
In the basic tools chapter, Undergarden gear is one option among several mods. For example, a quest in "?" accepts a Froststeel or Cloggrum pickaxe, and a quest in "?" accepts a Forgotten or Cloggrum sword. So a trip underground can knock out several of those quests at once.[5]
How do you get started with The Undergarden?
4 parts
The Undergarden is a dark, subterranean dimension that sits deep below the Overworld, with its own plants, mobs and ores that give tools and weapons special properties. Your whole trip starts with one item: the Catalyst.[1]
Step 1: Craft the Catalyst
The Catalyst is the key that lights the portal, and it is the first quest in the chapter. Heads up: this pack changes the Catalyst recipe from the mod default, so check the in-pack version below rather than any recipe you remember from elsewhere.[1][6][7]

With the Catalyst in hand, build a frame the same shape as a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks, then right click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to activate it. Bricks made from Undergarden materials work for the frame too, which is handy once you are set up down there.[1]
Step 2: Get Cloggrum
Cloggrum is your first metal in the dimension and the backbone of the early quest line. Grab Raw Cloggrum, or mine Depthrock Cloggrum Ore and Shiverstone Cloggrum Ore directly, then smelt it into Cloggrum Ingot to complete a quest in "?".[6][7]
Step 3: Cloggrum gear
Once the ingots are flowing, kit yourself out. A full tool set unlocks a quest in "?" and the full armour set unlocks a quest in "?"; a Cloggrum Pickaxe also counts for the pack's basic tools quest a quest in "?", and a Cloggrum Sword counts for a quest in "?".[6][8]

Don't throw your cloggrum tools away later. Forgotten Ingot upgrades are smithing transforms that take an existing cloggrum tool or weapon as the base, and Forgotten tools mine Undergarden blocks 1.5 times as fast while Forgotten weapons deal 1.5 times damage to non-boss Undergarden mobs.[7][9]
Where to go next
After cloggrum, the quest chapter branches into Froststeel Ingot, Utherium Crystal, Regalium Crystal and Forgotten Ingot, each with its own tool and armour quests. Utherium weapons are the anti-Rotspawn option, dealing 1.5 times damage to them, which matters because Rotspawn are the invasive monsters plaguing the dimension.[1][6][9]
There is also a long list of gathering quests for the dimension's plants and oddities, such as Gloomgourd, Blisterberry, Underbeans and the Slingshot. They cost you nothing but exploration time, so pick them up as you wander.[6]
How does The Undergarden work?
6 parts
The Undergarden is a dimension mod rather than a tech mod: there are no machines, no power network and no fluid or item pipes to wire up here. Its systems are a new world to explore, the ores and gear you bring out of it, and a handful of status effects that change how fights play out. The feature list is a whole dimension, over 10 unique entities, 15 biomes, ores with special properties when made into tools and weapons, over 10 music tracks, over 10 advancements, 4 special potion effects and 1 dungeon.[1]
Getting there: the Catalyst and the portal
Everything starts with the Catalyst. In this pack the Catalyst recipe has been changed from the mod default, so check the panel below rather than going from memory or an old video.[1][7]

Changed by the pack
- Craft the Catalyst.[1][7]
- Build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks.[1]
- Right click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to light it.[1]
The Undergarden itself sits deep underground, below the bedrock of the Overworld. Its plants have adapted to grow anywhere without light, and the native creatures share the place with the invasive Rotspawn, monsters that come from a separate chaotic realm.[1]
Ores and the gear progression
The core progression loop is ore to gear to better gear. Undergarden ores have special properties once you turn them into tools and weapons, so the metal you pick matters more than a raw stat line would suggest.[1]
Cloggrum is the entry metal and covers the full kit: sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, shield, the four armour pieces and decorative blocks. Cloggrum Boots carry their own perk, since Scintling Goo does not slow you down while you are wearing them.[7][9]

Cloggrum storage works the way you would expect from a vanilla metal, with recipes both ways between Cloggrum Nugget, Cloggrum Ingot and Block of Cloggrum, so nothing you smelt is ever stuck in the wrong form.[7]
The next tier is Forgotten gear, and it is a smithing upgrade rather than a fresh craft. The Forgotten upgrade template takes a cloggrum weapon or tool in its base slot, and Forgotten Ingots are forged from the nuggets dropped by Forgotten Guardians. Working through it unlocks all 6 Forgotten tools.[9]
The special properties show up as tooltips on the finished gear. Forgotten tools mine Undergarden blocks 1.5x as fast, Forgotten weapons deal 1.5x damage to non-boss Undergarden mobs, and Utherium weapons deal 1.5x damage to Rotspawn. There is also a Cloggrum Battleaxe, which you get from a Forgotten that is carrying one, and it can be upgraded with a Forgotten Ingot like the rest.[9]
Status effects
The mod adds its own effects, and several of them are things monsters and traps will put on you rather than buffs you brew.[1][9]
- Brittleness: the higher the victim's armour value, the more damage they take, and the damage scales with the potion level. Heavy armour is a liability here.[9]
- Virulence: similar to poison, but does more damage at a slower rate.[9]
- Virulent Resistance: grants immunity to Virulence and suppresses its damage.[9]
- Featherweight: the victim receives increased knockback when damaged, scaling with the potion level.[9]
- Chilly: slows the victim down and makes them visually shake.[9]
- Gooey: Scintling Goo is constantly placed under the victim's feet.[9]
The Slingshot
The Slingshot is the mod's ranged system and it runs on ammo you pick up around the dimension. Anything usable in it is labelled as Slingshot ammo on the item tooltip, so you can tell at a glance what is worth carrying. Pebbles are the basic shot, but you can also load Scintling Goo Balls to annoy a target, Rotten Blisterberries, and even a Gronglet.[9]
It has three enchantments of its own. Longevity increases the Slingshot's max durability, Ricochet makes fired projectiles bounce off block surfaces, and Self Sling fires you instead of your ammo, which requires you to be standing on the ground.[9]
Other systems worth knowing
- Stoneborn will trade with you, so they are your in-dimension shop.[9]
- The Shard Torch is a torch that damages Rotspawn in its vicinity, which makes it a defensive block as much as a light source.[9]
- You can create a Forgotten Minion using a Forgotten Block and a Carved Gloomgourd, the same way you would build a golem.[9]
- Gloomgourds grow from seeds you plant, so they are a renewable farm crop.[9]
- Gwiblings are caught with a bucket rather than fought.[9]
- The Catacombs are the dimension's dungeon, and the Forgotten Guardian you need for Forgotten Ingots is the fight that gates the upgrade tier.[1][9]
Crafting odds and ends
Beyond gear, the pack's recipe set covers a full decorative and utility line: brick slabs and stairs, chiseled variants of depthrock, shiverstone and tremblecrust bricks made from their slabs, cloggrum tiles, bars and a lantern, a mogmoss rug, and a depthrock bed. Deepsoil converts both ways between its normal and coarse forms, just like dirt.[7]
Two combat consumables chain into each other: the Blisterbomb is built from Rotten Blisterberry and Twistytwig, and feeding a Blisterbomb into a Gloomgourd gives you a Boomgourd.[7]

How do you progress through The Undergarden?
6 parts
The pack gives The Undergarden its own quest chapter, and it reads like a tier list. One quest sits at the root with no prerequisites: getting hold of a Catalyst, the item you need to open the way in. Everything else in the chapter unlocks after the entry quest, then branches into one line per metal.[6]
The pack changed the Catalyst recipe, so check the in-pack version rather than anything you remember from the mod on its own.[7]

Tier 0: gathering
Once you are through, a wide fan of one-off collection quests opens up. These are not gated behind each other, so you can tick them off in any order while you explore.[6]
- Food and plants: Underbeans, Droopfruit, Blisterberry, Glitterkelp and Gloomgourd.[6]
- Mushrooms: Veiled Mushroom, Indigo Mushroom, Ink Mushroom and Blood Mushroom.[6]
- Saplings and growables: Smogstem Sapling, Wigglewood Sapling, Grongle Sapling and Gronglet.[6]
- Early gear: a Slingshot, plus a combined quest for Blisterbomb and Boomgourd.[6]
Tier 1: Cloggrum
Cloggrum Ingot is the first metal quest, and it is the hub for three follow-ups: the full tool set (Cloggrum Pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe and sword), the full armour set, and a separate quest for the Cloggrum Battleaxe and Cloggrum Shield.[6]
You get ingots from raw cloggrum or straight from the ore block, in a furnace or blast furnace. The pack also adds Ender IO alloy smelter versions of every Undergarden ore recipe, so an early smelter setup handles the whole dimension's ores for you.[7]
Alloy Smelting (enderio)
Recipe id: enderio:smelting/undergarden/smelt_depthrock_cloggrum_ore
Alloy smelter recipe added by the pack.
Tier 2: Froststeel and Utherium
Froststeel Ingot and Utherium Crystal each get their own quest, and each unlocks a tools quest and an armour quest of its own. Utherium comes from Depthrock Utherium Ore or Shiverstone Utherium Ore, and you can also turn Utheric Shard into crystals at a crafting table.[6][7]
Tier 3: Forgotten
Forgotten Ingot is the top of the tool tree in the chapter, feeding a tools quest and a separate Forgotten Battleaxe quest. Forgotten gear is not crafted from scratch: you upgrade finished Cloggrum tools at a smithing table using a Smithing Template, so hold on to that Cloggrum set instead of melting it down.[6][7]
Side branches
- Regalium Crystal has a collection quest but no gear follow-up in the chapter. Besides smelting its ores, the pack lets you get crystals out of a Productive Bees centrifuge from a regalium honeycomb.[6][7]
- The Ancient armour quest (Ancient Helmet, Ancient Chestplate, Ancient Leggings) is the one entry that needs a second prerequisite from outside this chapter as well as the entry quest, so treat it as a late bonus rather than a tier.[6]
Where it shows up elsewhere
Undergarden progress also counts towards the pack's general chapters. The basic armour chapter has quests for all four of Cloggrum, Froststeel, Utherium and Forgotten plus Regalium, and the basic tools chapter accepts Undergarden gear as alternatives: Froststeel or Cloggrum pickaxes for the early pickaxe quest, Utherium Pickaxe or Forgotten Pickaxe for the later ones, and Cloggrum, Froststeel, Forgotten or Utherium swords for the sword quests.[8][10]
Even the building chapter takes a metal block, so a Block of Cloggrum, Block of Regalium, Block of Froststeel, Block of Forgotten Metal or Block of Utherium will finish it.[11]
How does The Undergarden work with other mods?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
The Undergarden doesn't sit off in its own corner in this pack. Its woods feed into the usual processing machines, its metals show up in the general progression quests, and its planks get a full furniture treatment. Here's what actually links up.[12][13][14][15]
Wood processing
The pack adds sawing recipes so Undergarden logs behave like any other wood in your automation setup. Smogstem, Wigglewood and Grongle logs all work in Mekanism sawing, giving you planks plus Sawdust as a second output.[12]
Sawing (mekanism)
- any smogstem log

Wigglewood and Grongle logs have matching sawing recipes.
The same three log types also have pack-added Productive Trees sawmill recipes that turn logs into planks.[12]

Furniture from Undergarden wood
BiblioWoods adds a big set of Undergarden furniture variants. Smogstem, Wigglewood and Grongle each get their own display case plus a full run of seats and seat backs, all built around that wood's slab, and the seating comes in black, blue and brown to match the wool you use.[12]
- A display case for each of the three woods, such as Blue Smogstem Display Case, made from the slab and any glass block.[12]
- Seats in three colours, like Blue Smogstem Seat, using the slab, matching wool and a wooden rod.[12]
- Small, flat and raised seat backs, plus tall and fancy versions that upgrade a flat seat back with another slab.[12]

Quests that mix Undergarden gear with other mods
Beyond the dedicated Undergarden chapter, Undergarden items are accepted as answers in the pack's general progression quests. The basic tools chapter treats Undergarden gear as one valid path among several mods.[13][15]
- a quest in "?" accepts a Froststeel Pickaxe or Cloggrum Pickaxe alongside pickaxes from other mods.[15]
- a quest in "?" takes a Utherium Pickaxe as an alternative to an Aquaculture 2 or Deeper and Darker pickaxe.[15]
- a quest in "?" is satisfied by either a Forgotten Pickaxe or a Deeper and Darker Warden Pickaxe.[15]
- a quest in "?" accepts a Forgotten Sword or Cloggrum Sword, and a quest in "?" accepts a Froststeel Sword, each next to swords from other mods.[15]
- a quest in "?" in the same chapter asks specifically for a Utherium Sword.[15]
The basic armor chapter also has its own entries for Cloggrum Ingot, Froststeel Ingot, Forgotten Ingot, Utherium Crystal and Regalium Crystal, plus full armour set quests for Cloggrum, Froststeel and Utherium.[14]
There's even a decorating nod: a quest in "?" in the building tips chapter counts any Undergarden metal block, so a Block of Cloggrum, Block of Regalium, Block of Froststeel, Block of Forgotten Metal or Block of Utherium all tick it off.[16]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use The Undergarden?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
The Undergarden has its own quest chapter in this pack, and its items also appear in the armor, tools and building chapters. Most of these quests are simple collection tasks: grab the item, tick the quest. Here's what each chapter asks for and how the quests unlock.[2][4][5][17]
The Undergarden chapter
The chapter starts with a quest in "?", which asks for a Catalyst and has no prerequisite. Almost every other quest here unlocks after the same earlier quest, so once that's done you can work through the chapter in any order you like.[2]
A big part of the chapter is exploring and gathering. Each of these quests asks for a single item you'll pick up while wandering the dimension:[2]
- Food and plants: Underbeans for a quest in "?", Blisterberry for a quest in "?", Droopfruit for a quest in "?", Glitterkelp for a quest in "?" and Gloomgourd for a quest in "?".[2]
- Mushrooms: Veiled Mushroom for a quest in "?", Indigo Mushroom for a quest in "?", Blood Mushroom for a quest in "?" and Ink Mushroom for a quest in "?".[2]
- Saplings: Grongle Sapling for a quest in "?", Wigglewood Sapling for a quest in "?" and Smogstem Sapling for a quest in "?".[2]
- Gadgets and combat: a Slingshot for a quest in "?", a Gronglet for a quest in "?", and both a Blisterbomb and a Boomgourd for a quest in "?".[2]
Metals and gear
The materials quests are where the chapter branches out. Getting the base material unlocks follow-up quests for the gear made from it, so collect the ingot or crystal first.[2]
- Cloggrum: a quest in "?" asks for a Cloggrum Ingot and unlocks a quest in "?" (full Cloggrum armor), a quest in "?" (pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe and sword) and a quest in "?" (Cloggrum Battleaxe and Cloggrum Shield).[2]
- Froststeel: a quest in "?" asks for a Froststeel Ingot and unlocks a quest in "?" (full Froststeel armor) and a quest in "?" (the Froststeel tool set and sword).[2]
- Utherium: a quest in "?" asks for a Utherium Crystal and unlocks a quest in "?" (full Utherium armor) and a quest in "?" (the Utherium tool set and sword).[2]
- Forgotten metal: a quest in "?" asks for a Forgotten Ingot and unlocks a quest in "?" (the Forgotten tool set and sword) and a quest in "?" (Forgotten Battleaxe).[2]
- Regalium: a quest in "?" just asks for a Regalium Crystal.[2]
There's also a quest in "?", which wants the Ancient Helmet, Ancient Chestplate and Ancient Leggings. This one needs two earlier quests completed before it opens up, so expect it later than the rest.[2]
Other chapters
The basic_armor chapter repeats the Undergarden materials and armor sets as standalone quests: a quest in "?" for a Cloggrum Ingot, a quest in "?" for a Froststeel Ingot, a quest in "?" for a Utherium Crystal, a quest in "?" for a Forgotten Ingot and a quest in "?" for a Regalium Crystal. Full armor sets are covered by a quest in "?" (Cloggrum), a quest in "?" (Froststeel) and a quest in "?" (Utherium).[4]
In the basic_tools chapter, several quests accept Undergarden gear as one of a few options, so it's a handy shortcut if you're already kitted out. a quest in "?" takes a Froststeel or Cloggrum pickaxe, a quest in "?" takes a Utherium pickaxe, a quest in "?" takes a Forgotten pickaxe, a quest in "?" takes a Forgotten or Cloggrum sword and a quest in "?" takes a Froststeel sword. a quest in "?" specifically wants the Utherium Sword.[5]
Finally, the building_tips chapter has a quest in "?", which accepts any one of the metal blocks: Block of Cloggrum, Block of Regalium, Block of Froststeel, Block of Forgotten Metal or Block of Utherium.[17]
Unverified The shared quest that unlocks most of the Undergarden chapter isn't identified in the quest data available here, so it's not confirmed whether it's the Catalyst quest or something else.
Which The Undergarden config options matter?
Unverified This pack doesn't ship a config file for The Undergarden, so there are no pack-specific values to tune here: nothing has been changed from the mod's own defaults, and there's no file to edit in the pack's config folder.
That means the dimension behaves as the mod ships it: the biomes, mobs, ores and dungeon are all there with no pack-side adjustments you need to know about before you dive in.[1]
What changed in The Undergarden between versions?
2 parts
All the Mods 10 2.6 ships The Undergarden 0.8.22 (the 1.21.1 build). The mod has been in the pack since version 0.42 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the pack.[18]
0.8.22
- The Forgotten are now considered undead.[19]
- A special dimension transition screen was added for travelling into the Undergarden.[19]
- Undergarden food items were added to the c:foods tag.[19]
- Fixed Underbeans, Blisterberries and Ditchbulbs not growing. If those crops ever failed on you in an older version, this is the fix.[19]
0.8.21
- Fixed the Undergarden portal effect messing with other portals.[20]
Unverified The sources I had contain no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say which of these changes landed in which pack release.
