The Undergarden is a mod in All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta, where it is version 0.9.8. Deep underground, a forgotten land awaits. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is The Undergarden?

2 parts

The Undergarden adds a dark, subterranean dimension that sits deep below the bedrock of the Overworld. The plants down there have adapted to the dark and can grow anywhere, no matter the light level. Strange creatures live in these lands, and they are plagued by the invasive Rotspawn, monsters that come from a chaotic, mysterious realm.[1]

This pack includes version 0.9.8 of the mod.[2]

What you get

  • A whole new dimension to explore, build and survive in.[1]
  • 15 biomes and over 10 unique entities.[1]
  • Ores that have special properties when made into tools and weapons.[1]
  • 4 special potion effects and 1 dungeon.[1]
  • Over 10 music tracks and over 10 advancements to guide you on your journey.[1]

Getting in

To enter the Undergarden, you first craft a Catalyst. Then build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Bricks derived from the Undergarden also work for the frame.[1]

Once the frame is built, right click the inner bottom of it with the Catalyst to activate the portal.[1]

How do you get started with The Undergarden?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

The Undergarden is a dark, subterranean world below the bedrock of the Overworld. Your first goal is getting in, and to enter you must first craft the Catalyst.[1]

First, craft the Catalyst

The Catalyst is your key to the dimension. This is the in-pack recipe, exactly as the pack has it:[1][3]

Next, build the portal and light it

  1. Build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal using Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Bricks from the Undergarden itself also work.[1]
  2. Right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to activate the portal.[1]

Once you step through, the "enter the Undergarden" advancement is yours. The mod also has an advancement for mining any Undergarden ore, which is a nice nudge toward your next goal.[4]

Then, gear up with Cloggrum

Cloggrum is the mod's early metal. The pack has the full set of Cloggrum crafting recipes, including the Cloggrum Pickaxe and Cloggrum Sword. Start with the pickaxe so you can keep mining down here.[3]

There is also an advancement for a full suit of Cloggrum armor. The Cloggrum Boots are worth wearing for their own perk: Scintling Goo doesn't slow you down when you wear them.[3][4]

Looking ahead: Forgotten tools

Once you're settled, you can upgrade Cloggrum tools and weapons into Forgotten ones. You need a Forgotten Ingot, which you forge from a Forgotten Guardian's nuggets, plus the Forgotten Tool Upgrade. The payoff is big: Forgotten tools mine Undergarden blocks 1.5x as fast, and Forgotten weapons deal 1.5x damage to non-boss Undergarden mobs.[3][4]

Tip: Another early craft to look out for is the Shard Torch. It's a torch that damages Rotspawn in its vicinity, and the mod has an advancement for making one.[4]

Unverified This pack has no quests involving the Undergarden, and the recipe dump doesn't show where Cloggrum comes from. Check in-game, for example in JEI, for how to get the ore and ingots. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does The Undergarden work?

6 parts

The Undergarden has no power, fluid or multiblock machines in this pack, so there is nothing to wire up or automate with the mod itself. Its systems are the portal, a handful of processing recipes, an infuser recipe type and a few upgrade paths. Here is how each one works, as far as the sources show.[1][5]

Getting in: the Catalyst portal

To enter the dimension you first craft a Catalyst. Then you build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. You can also use bricks derived from the Undergarden. Right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to light the portal.[1]

The mod describes the dimension as a dark world deep below the bedrock of the Overworld. Its plants can grow anywhere, independent of light. A Dreadrock barrier sits at the bottom of the Undergarden, and breaking through it takes you into the Depths.[1][4]

Smelting and blasting

Cloggrum is the mod's main metal, and it goes through the blast furnace style of recipe. Depthrock Cloggrum Ore is blasted into a Cloggrum Ingot, and there is a separate blasting recipe that makes a Cloggrum Nugget.[5]

Plain smelting is used for the cracked brick variants. Cracked Depthrock Bricks and Cracked Sediment Stone Bricks each come from a smelting recipe.[5]

Food can be cooked in a campfire or a smoker. Dweller Steak and Gloomper Leg both have a campfire recipe and a smoking recipe.[5]

          Stonecutting

Chiseled Depthrock Bricks can be cut in a stonecutter, either from Depthrock Bricks or straight from Depthrock. The dump counts 85 stonecutting recipes that make Undergarden items in total.[5]

              Infuser conversions

The mod has its own recipe type for infusing. Two such recipes show up in the pack: one makes the Mysterious Totem and the other makes the Rogdoric Gronglet.[5]

                  Forgotten upgrades

Forgotten gear is made at a smithing table, not a crafting grid. The Forgotten Axe and Forgotten Battleaxe both have a smithing transform recipe. The mod's advancements describe the path: you forge a Forgotten Ingot from a Forgotten Guardian's nuggets, then use it to upgrade Cloggrum tools. There are 6 Forgotten tools in total.[4][5]

                      What this pack adds

The pack connects the mod to a few others. Both Ancient Root Planks and Grongle Planks can be made in the Productive Trees sawmill. These recipes are added by the pack, not by the mod.[5]

Productive Bees has centrifuge recipes for Undergarden materials. The cloggrum honeycomb gives wax and Raw Cloggrum, and the forgotten honeycomb gives wax and a Forgotten Nugget. That is a bee-based route to the metals.[5]

Tip: Cave generation in the Undergarden uses a carver with a 0.5 probability and an absolute lava level of 11. Expect plenty of open caves, and lava low down.[6]

How do you progress through The Undergarden?

                          6 parts

Here is the honest picture for The Undergarden in this pack: the recipe data shows you which materials exist and how each one is made. It does not give a fixed order for them, so this section walks through the material lines one by one.[5]

                          Cloggrum

Cloggrum Ingot has several routes in this pack. Smelting and blasting recipes for the depthrock cloggrum ore both give an ingot, and a separate blasting recipe turns Raw Cloggrum into one. Raw cloggrum also comes out of the Productive Bees centrifuge recipe for the cloggrum honeycomb, alongside wax.[5]

Storage is simple: one cloggrum block gives 9 ingots, and one ingot gives 9 Cloggrum Nugget. Stonecutting also gives Cloggrum Tile Slab (2 per cut) and Cloggrum Tile Stairs from cloggrum tiles.[5]

The Cloggrum Shield recipe is one the pack added itself through KubeJS, so it is not a plain mod default. The recipe block below shows the exact in-pack version.[5]

                          Froststeel, Regalium and Utherium

                          • Froststeel Ingot: two blasting recipes make it, one from Raw Froststeel and one from the froststeel item recipe. The froststeel honeycomb centrifuge recipe gives wax plus raw froststeel.[5]
                          • Regalium Crystal: the depthrock regalium ore has both a smelting and a blasting recipe that give it. The regalium honeycomb centrifuge recipe also gives one, with wax.[5]
                          • Utheric Cluster: depthrock and dreadrock utherium ore both drop it when smelted or blasted. The infuser turns it into a Utherium Crystal, shown in the recipe block below. The utheric honeycomb centrifuge also gives a Utheric Shard.[5]
                          • Rogdorium: a blasting recipe for dreadrock rogdorium ore produces it.[5]

Every forgotten tool is a smithing table upgrade: Forgotten Sword, Forgotten Axe, Forgotten Pickaxe, Forgotten Shovel, Forgotten Hoe, Forgotten Spear and Forgotten Battleaxe each have their own smithing transform recipe. The sword is shown below as an example. The forgotten honeycomb also gives a Forgotten Nugget from the centrifuge.[5]

There are no quests in this pack that involve The Undergarden, so its connections to other mods show up in recipes and tags instead. Here is where it meets other mods.[5]

The pack adds its own Productive Trees sawmill recipes for some Undergarden woods. In each one, 2 Sawdust gives you 6 planks: Ancient Root Planks, Grongle Planks, Smogstem Planks and Wigglewood Planks. These recipes are marked as added by the pack, not by the mods themselves.[5]

                                    Railcraft Reborn: shared stone tag

The pack runs a script that adds Abyssal Stone and Quarried Stone from Railcraft Reborn to the c:stones tag, for both blocks and items. The Undergarden's muncher_breakables block tag includes the c:stones tag, so those two Railcraft stones are covered by it as well.[7][8]

Which The Undergarden config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.6 guide

Unverified This pack doesn't ship a config file for The Undergarden, so there are no pack-specific values to tune here: nothing has been changed from the mod's own defaults, and there's no file to edit in the pack's config folder.

That means the dimension behaves as the mod ships it: the biomes, mobs, ores and dungeon are all there with no pack-side adjustments you need to know about before you dive in.[1]

Tip: If you're looking for how to actually get down there, skip ahead to the portal section, you activate a Nether-portal-shaped frame of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks with a Catalyst rather than changing any settings.[1]

What changed in The Undergarden between versions?

                                    4 parts

All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta ships The Undergarden 0.9.8. The mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[2]

The most recent mod changelog I have is for 0.9.7, which was a big update. These are the highlights from it.[9]

                                    New content in 0.9.7

                                    • Thornreed is an Undergarden version of sugar cane that generates underwater.[9]
                                    • The undergar is a new neutral fish found in the ancient sea, and it drops undergar fillets on death.[9]
                                    • Twistybush is a new block that drops twistytwigs. It spawns in various biomes that have no wigglewood trees.[9]
                                    • Cloggrum grate, pillar and ladder blocks were added, along with a bunch of new sediment variant blocks.[9]
                                    • Rogdorium infused underbeans will mutate a dweller into a greater version.[9]

                                    Gear and balance

                                    • Spears were renamed to javelins, their damage was tweaked, and they are now stackable.[9]
                                    • Battleaxes can now only be swung with a full melee charge.[9]
                                    • Froststeel armor values got a slight buff and froststeel tool durability got a significant one. Most other tool and armor values were adjusted slightly.[9]
                                    • Utherium tools can now break dreadrock related blocks.[9]
                                    • The utheric infection damage curve is now more exponential than linear, so damage starts slow and ramps up the longer you have it.[9]
                                    • Normal dwellers are now immune to the utheric infection, and greater dwellers give birth to normal baby dwellers.[9]

                                    Mobs and trading

                                    • Stoneborn trades are now data driven, and you can no longer trade with a stoneborn that is angry at something.[9]
                                    • Rotwalkers and stoneborn now actually swing to hit their target instead of just standing there.[9]
                                    • Forgotten guardians no longer despawn in peaceful. They enter an inactive state and take no damage instead.[9]
                                    • All baby mobs got unique models, and the s'mog was remodeled.[9]

                                    Removals, config and fixes

                                    • The mod's own scaffold recipe, lead recipe and fog config were removed.[9]
                                    • A new config option lets you spawn in the Undergarden. With the bonus chest setting enabled, you also get a special Undergarden bonus chest on first spawn.[9]
                                    • Slingshot ammo moved to a data component, so hit and shoot sounds, particles, on-hit effects and charging textures can be defined per ammo.[9]
                                    • Fixed a crash when giving yourself a high level of the purity effect.[9]
                                    • Fixed the "strange fish" advancement not working with the cloggrum bucket.[9]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for The Undergarden, so I can't say whether any pack release changed a value or recipe for this mod. Check the All the Mods 11 changelogs for that.
